F O R Y O U R I N F O R M AT I O N In accordance with Kansas State Fire Marshal regulations, we request that you take a moment to identify two emergency exits closest to you. In case of emergency, pay close attention to any announcements about important safety information. As a courtesy to our other guests, as well as our performers, please refrain from talking and texting during the performance. Patrons who create disturbances will be asked to leave the theatre. All cell phones and other electronic devices must be turned off during performances. The use of photographic, video, or any other recording equipment is strictly prohibited.
THE LAWRENCE ARTS CENTER IS EQUIPPED WITH A HEARING LOOP SYSTEM. Thanks to Douglas County Community Foundation, Lawrence Otolaryngology, Vicki and Joe Douglas, Velocity Church, and Marston Hearing Center, we now provide the Hearing Loop System. A receiver sends the voices of our performers from the microphone directly into a hearing aid or cochlear implant. If you use a T-Coil or Telecoil Aid, enjoy as is; if you have another hearing device, please speak to an usher to get a headset to enjoy the new technology.
DIREC TOR’S NOTE In 2005, Ric Averill, Deb Bettinger, and Candi Baker collaborated to create The Snow Queen, an original production intentionally and lovingly built just for our community. In 2006, 2007, and 2010 it was performed as our holiday show. Now, 10 years later, we have brought it back to life with a revised script, score, and a whole new group of performers, technicians, designers, choreographers, and directors. This production is an ode to the original artistry and imaginative foundations that Ric, Deb, and Candi created years ago. Hans Christian Anderson’s much-loved 1844 Nordic fairytale continues to inspire people around the world. When performed live, the themes of friendship, bravery, and hope resonate in an honest way to a wide audience. This original hometown experience bridges time and creativity, making it a production that will leave its mark on the Lawrence Arts Center’s history. We are delighted to present and share this highly unique production with and for our community. In making this work, creative excitement bubbled across our organization, involving over 250 young people, community members, professional artists, and staff. This production is our community and it could not be done without everyone’s dedication, hard work, skill, and creativity. I would like to give a large thank you to the family and friends of all our cast and team members. Thank you to Tammy, Chelsea, Susan, Rebekah, and Jason for their incredible designs. A special thank you to our artistic and production team: Ric, Paige, Amanda, Tristian, Leah, Emma, Samaria, Sophie, Amy, Hanan, Jessica, Jamie, Ben, and Jeff. Thank you to the cast for all your hard work! And finally, none of this would be possible without our hardworking and dedicated volunteers. Thank you. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the magic of live theatre, our Snow Queen. — Elizabeth Sullivan, Artistic Director & Drama Director
