“Many congratulations on your 200th edition. I recall how it looked in the beginning and have seen it go from strength to strength. You do an amazing job for the community even after working hours. Thankyou for all your design work each month and input into our advertisement, we very grateful. Here's to the next 200. Box Of Cakes Cafe and Cake shop“” On the feast of Stephen (deep and crisp and even) This year I’m intending to lead what I think is my first Boxing Day church service. It’s also known as St Stephen’s day. John Mason Neale’s famous Carol calls it “the feast of Stephen” , describing the story of Wenceslas’ saintly footprints warming his frozen servant as they journeyed through snow to bring food and fuel to a poor household.

A year ago I was on a beginners painting course. I painted this snow scene from a photo of my local park. It isn’t very deep or crisp, or even for that matter, but I enjoyed creating it. It reminds me how different everything looks when it has snowed, like another world. Yet the cold weather creates a very real and difficult situation for those struggling with bills or infirmity. Winter is a time to share.

The Carol finishes with: Therefore, Christians all, be sure, Wealth or rank possessing, Ye who now will bless the poor, Shall yourselves find blessing.

If you are looking for an alternative to Boxing Day sales then do join us in this celebration. For surely the message hasn’t dated. (Don’t worry, I won’t bring the painting.)
