Do you know these words from the Christmas carol Hark the herald angels sing: “Jesus our Immanuel”? In the Bible we read: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel—which means, God with us. ” God with us? Author Ann Spangler can help us to understand what that means:

“What does it mean to say that God is with us? Surely it doesn’t mean our lives will be easy. It doesn’t mean we will be insulated from failure or doubt or that God will take our side in every argument. But it does mean we will never face even a single struggle alone. It means the Lord will never withhold the help we need to do his will. It means that ultimately we will come out on top even if we feel we’re living most of our life on the bottom. ”

On 21 December at 7.00 p.m. we will be holding a “Longest Night” service. This will be a time of prayer and meditation for those who grieve, are lonely or afraid, struggling with loss, disappointment, or doubt.

All are welcome to come and join us as we think of “God with us” this Christmas.

May you know love, joy, peace and hope this Christmas and throughout 2022.
