HEALTH NEWS Heart Association Highlights Unique Risks Women Face for High Blood Pressure, Stroke

Home Care Partners, Nebraska LTC Pharmacy Create Dementia Workshops for Community

The American Heart Association is putting increased emphasis on women’s health this summer, including education efforts to teach women about the unique risks they face for high blood pressure and stroke. Women have a lot on their plates, and sometimes important self-care can take a back seat to work, family, and other obligations. In fact, nearly 50% of adult women have high blood pressure, and nearly three-quarters of those with high blood pressure don’t have it under control. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can significantly increase a woman’s risk for a stroke, but a few important steps can help reduce that risk and give women (and their loved ones) one less thing to worry about. Fortunately, 80% of strokes may be prevented and lowering high blood pressures reduces stroke risk. Women can measure their blood pressure at home regularly and let their doctors know if it’s normally above 120/80. In addition, lifestyle adjustments such as getting enough exercise, eating healthfully, maintaining a healthy weight, and not smoking can go a long way to reduce women’s disease risk from high blood pressure. The American Heart Association and its American Stroke Association division represent a relentless force for a world with fewer strokes and longer, healthier lives. Karla Frese, managing partner of Home Care Partners, is excited to announce a collaboration with Gayleen Bradley of Nebraska LTC Pharmacy to offer dementia workshops to the Lincoln community. “A Day in the Life, a Dementia Simulation Experience” is a free workshop experience available to the public, upon request, to improve and increase dementia education with a focus on improving care. This workshop addresses communication, caring for those aging with sensory deficits, and cognitive impairment through a simulation. The simulation uses exaggerated impairment to help us understand the verbal, physical, and mental challenges of those that caregivers serve, and how to adjust and adapt our healthcare approach when caring for patients with dementia. “A Day in the Life” is highly valuable experience for those who are formal or informal caregivers, family members, healthcare organizations, support groups, local businesses that serve seniors, community groups, and houses of worship. Home Care Partners delivers an affordable and comparable alternative to independent and assisted-living options, and additional support when needed for those already in a senior community. For more information, visit homecarepartnersofnebraska.com and follow them on Facebook (@ homecarepartnersofnebraska) and Instagram (@homecarepartners). If you would like to attend a “Day in the Life” workshop or provide it to a group that would benefit from the experience, call Home Care Partners at (402) 780-1211 to get it scheduled today!

Star City Dental Offers PRF Treatments for Natural Skin, Hair Rejuvenation, Recovery Star City Dental, a division of CARE Esthetics, is now offering Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) treatments. This technology uses your body’s own natural and powerful healing proteins and concentrated growth hormones found within your blood to rejuvenate skin, and help with wound healing. With a simple blood draw, a concentration of natural growth factors in your own blood is collected and used to stimulate and treat your skin. The protocols established to produce PRF in its most concentrated format (C-PRF) were actually developed by lead researchers at CARE Esthetics. Platelet Rich Fibrin treatments have been shown to be three times more effective than Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), a first-generation platelet concentrate. PRF involves no artificial components in providing 100% natural facial rejuvenation, including eliminating forehead wrinkles and eyebrow furrows, filling in smokers’ lines, softening marionette lines, and plumping lips—all to provide a natural enhancement for a beautiful smile! Star City Dental is located off of 84th and Pioneers Blvd. They provide family, restorative, cosmetic, and emergency dentistry. They make your healthy smile their top priority by listening to your needs and concerns, and they use gentle, efficient cleaning techniques. You can expect to be taken care of by highly trained professionals. To learn more about Star City Dental, visit starcitydentalne.com.
