She is renowned for her Devore prints for fashion and has recently developed a range of fine linens and satins for bedcovers and curtains. Recent work has been influenced by winters spent on a remote farm in Western Australia where her design Treelace was inspired by the petrified Eucalyptus trees standing like sculptures, silver-grey, against the brilliant bluebird skies! My love of drawing and patterns, the qualities, colours and textures of glass and the many techniques of combining them, captures and fires up my imagination. Initially, I work by capturing images of natural forms on camera. Once printed, I am then free to explore how to form light capturing views of the natural world.”

She is particularly inspired by the nature found in the Stroud valleys, along the banks of the Severn in Gloucestershire and on the islands off Wales and Scotland. Rare-breed fleece, plant-dyed Cotswold fleece and alpaca wool add a natural quality to her portraits of animals, birds and wildfowl. Collections for 2017 will include rare-breed sheep inspired bags and pictures celebrating Stroud’s Woollen Mill heritage. Helen’s studio will be open from 11am – 2.30pm during the week in addition to the weekends.

silver & mixed metals Studio 6, Victoria Works Studios, London Road, Chalford GL6 8HN m: 07779 124982 www.luciantaylor.co.uk Lucian’s work treads a precarious line between happy accidents and instructive failures. An attention to the possibilities of material and process is informed by themes of abundance. He uses silver and other metals to create vessels, implements and items of jewellery. On a material and process level, his work is an exploration of alternative means to create the hollow-ware ‘skin’: skeuomorphic borrowings from leather and textiles; handmade CAD meshes; extrusions of profiles. Conceptually his work is informed by preoccupations with luxury and abundance; the divide between beauty and ugliness; perfection and sterility; playfulness and seriousness.

The wild plants and weeds that grow in front gardens and wastelands, in hedges and along paths are a rich source of material. She collects, dries and presses the leaves and flowers and then use them to create the designs using a process she developed which she calls ‘fossilized’, as the fine detail – even the veins of the leaves – show on the embossed surface of the acrylic. The result is beautiful and individual acrylic jewellery. Her work is a celebration of the organic and the industrial.
