This interest has also led her to explore mark making on a variety of materials including wood. She has recently collaborated with her husband, the furniture designer Matthew Tradgett, to create wooden sculptural outcomes for the outdoors. Where possible she uses sustainable sources for her fabrics and has been most recently interested in exploring rust dyeing without additional dyes or chemicals. Her recent designs capture memories of unusual lost objects like old wood working tools and antique keys. She produces one-off silk scarves, furnishings, fine art, costumes, children’s garments and accessories.

I have been a painter for over 45 years so have matured my approach into further experimentation which excites me. My practice now based near Stroud allows and follows my teaching in the area plus the writing for the Artist magazine and a book on drawing currently under the pen. My inspiration is everywhere and I maintain that the most evocative work is made from the ordinary into the extraordinary. Usually people feature somewhere in my work, simply as they inspire and have such individuality.”

Seed heads, leaves and ferns are printed onto paper or clay, to make original prints and little tiles and pendants, nearly always in a smoky indigo blue. Her intricate, detailed ink drawings – usually of birds, trees and insects – are sometimes realistic, sometimes imaginative. Many are then hand printed by the artist to make cards and series of unique, affordable prints.

Park, Stratford Road GL5 4AF In 1975 the artist Winifred Nicholson invited the recently graduated Andy Christian to stay indefinitely at her home, Banks Head on the Roman Wall. In lieu of rent he worked on her garden and made picture frames for her. Through her he came to meet and was befriended by many contemporary artists and collectors including the Rev. Geoffrey Bennett, long time friend and collector of L. S. Lowry, the sculptors David Nash and Andy Goldsworthy, tapestry weavers Lynne Curran and William Jefferies along with the wildly eccentric composer of the Doctor Who theme music, Delia Derbyshire. This talk will focus on the textile aspects of the years spent at Banks Head with actual works from that time to enjoy and share. Andy Christian, writer, curator and artist, is an engaging and enjoyable speaker who will share his experiences of living with such inspirational artists from
