EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Nouf Al-Hajri nouf@ph7-kw.com MANAGING DIRECTOR Zeina Mokaddam zeina@ph7-kw.com Dear Students, Recently, one of my friends, aged 50, looked at me and asked; “When will I learn?” I responded “Never, hopefully!!” Who would ever want to see the day where he can say; I have seen it all, lived it all, learned it all? “But I am old enough to know better, how can people still manage to disappoint me?” she retorted. “This means you are young enough to still believe in the goodness of people, you still find it in your heart to keep your faith in humans” I replied. Who would ever want to see the day where he can say; No one can affect me anymore as I no longer expect anything from anyone? If today, my students, you think that life is teaching you its lessons because you are still young, know that life will never cease to teach you and know that my wish for you is to stay forever young, never forgetting your dreams, always being truthful to your good nature, even if the price is some heartache every now and then, the rewards you reap far exceed the disappointments To sleep knowing that, even if I don’t get the opportunity to open my eyes again, at least I have been truthful to my being, my beliefs and worked my utmost to keep them. My most precious belonging, my most valuable, is not a possession that I can show you, but it is my belief in the goodness in people that I can share with you. We were all brought into this world without really understanding either how or why. But we all have that unexplainable drive in us to leave it a little better than we found it. And though the world is too big for us to change, if we can affect a positive change on ourselves, our family and friends, our small surrounding and society, then we will have fulfilled our mission on earth and would have managed to acquire the most valuable of possessions; our soul. My life is surrounded by luxury, by brands and materialism. Please do not misunderstand me, for I enjoy them thoroughly as I marvel at their beauty and refinement as I ponder on the hours, years, centuries and all the hands that got together to build these brands to where they are today. But what takes my breath away, is every time I see a newborn; a child uttering his first words; taking his first steps. The human form, the being, the creation, remains the most magnificent in my eyes! It takes hours, years, centuries to build refined brands. I wonder how long it will take us to build a refined nation where slaughtering, rape and ransacking will no longer be done in the name of God. To say that I am disappointed with what is happening in some parts of our Arab world would be an understatement. For I still have the greatest expectations from us, as humans… and I refuse to change my views. May you, my students, forever keep your beliefs.

Cover Story

Ali Al-Khorafi

Representing Kuwait for Equestrian Sports on an International Level The Kuwaiti youth’s ambition increaed substantially since their aim to represent Kuwait on an international level. Ali Al-Khorafi, the number one showjumper in Kuwait, has been representing Kuwait by competing in equestrian sports in Kuwait, Lebanon, France, and recently in South Korea during the Asian Games. With us, he talked about his experiences in horseback riding and how riders in the Gulf region obtain further support from their Governments. What encouraged you to join horseback riding? My family's passion for horseback riding allowed me to eventually love the equestrian sport. My family established the first private equestrian club, Kuwait Riding Center, in 1996. I used to watch my uncles ride horses, yet I was afraid of horses, how ironic? Through my family's encouragement, I started training in 1997 and a year later I competed in the Junior Class at Kuwait's National Equestrian Competition. My first international competition for the under 17 year olds took place in Lebanon in 2002. Later, I competed in the same category but in France and I won first place. Do you believe that parents’ encouragement is essential to join equestrian sports? For me it was essential, because I watched every member in my family practice. In the past, there was only the Government-owned Hunting and Equestrian Club, but then my family founded the Kuwait Riding Center. However, it is a different case now due to this generation's awareness of equestrian sports. As I coach at the Kuwait Riding Center, I witnessed an increase in participation every month. I believe that the youth today have more knowledge regarding the importance of joining sports, and for that reason several equestrian clubs have been established.

Now there are 200 contestants competing in Kuwait's National Equestrian Competitions. What are the different types of competition within the equestrian sports? I am mostly involved in showjumping, which is basically jumping with the horse over a fence. There are different classes in showjumping, one of them is the speed, class where you have to clear the fences in the shortest time. Another class is called the Two-round Class. Here you have two rounds to jump the fences and they count how many faults occurred, along with how many fences the horse knocked down. Many people mix this class with the accumulator. The accumulator is jumping over different fences, each fence with a certain level of difficulty and the challenge increases as you jump each fence. At the end, you have the "Joker" - a tricky fence comprising only of a rustic rail and two wings, and where the lack of filler makes it difficult for a horse to judge their proximity to the fence as well as the fence's height. Lastly, there is one class where you only have one fence and the level of difficulty increases each time you make a successful jump.

I used to be scared of horses and now I am competing in international competitions, so if I can do this so can you!

How many horses do you have and how do you personally train for your competitions? Many might think that showjumpers are required to do physical training in the gym. While it is essential to keep yourself fit for the competitions, it is not the main aspect. Continuously training with the horse is important in order to effectively communicate with the horse. I spend most of my time with my horses as they need to get used to me, my weight and my way of riding. I have five horses, two of which are young. I must train them at an early stage for future competitions. The other three are much older, two of them compete for speed jumping and the last one competes for the highest jumping classes, the 140-150 fences. Every rider has his own technique to communicate with the horses and the rider needs to spend time with them to create understanding. Also, the horses need special training to be fit for competitions.

16

What were the recent competitions that you participated in? Last year, I did not compete internationally; however, I was the number one showjumper

during the season of Kuwait's National Competition season. The year before that, I competed in the Arab League season and I won 11 medals, 7 of them were gold medals, 3 were silver and the last one was a bronze medal. I just competed in the Asian Olympic Games. I achieved great results, hence making my trainer very proud. I qualified for the final and the top 20 finalists. I wasn’t able to ship my horse from Kuwait to South Korea which is why I had to train a new horse for a very short amount of time. Due to over-exhaustion, the horse couldn’t clear the last round which is why I wasn’t able to achieve the gold medal. However, I am very proud of the horse’s performance and for enduring until the very end with minimal practice.

‫قصة الغالف‬

In your opinion, do you believe there is a chance for the Kuwaiti youth to win more medals in International Competitions and the Arab League? In the past, Kuwait's riders had higher skills and received much more support than the riders do now. Kuwait received a gold medal in the Asian Games in 1983 and in 1988 as a team. Also, comparing Kuwait riders with riders from the Gulf region, they are showered with all the financial support they need from their federation. For example, the Qatari team bought a horse for 11 Million Euros! What people might not be aware of is that equestrian sports in general are very costly. It involves a horse that needs training, healthcare, comfort and shipping. In addition, the rider himself needs a summer camp with the horse in order for both of them to train together and communicate. Fortunately, my family covered all my expenses for the Asian Games that included my summer camp training and transferring my horse from Holland to South Korea. However, not all riders in Kuwait have this financial privilege. Even on the international level, riders from non-Gulf countries obtain financial support from the government. I remember that a member of the Qatari team was appalled to know that my family financed my expenses to take part in competitions. However, if we keep waiting for financial support, then we will not be able to represent Kuwait on the international and regional level. There are several aspects that need sufficient funds in order to train, compete and win. It seems like the riders in Kuwait are competing against governmental federations, making it harder for teams to be created and participate in competitions. If you were involved in Kuwait's federation, how would you solve such a problem? The federation provides financial support to governmental institutes, such as the Hunting and Equestrian Club. If you notice, there isn't a Kuwait National Team for showjumping, so it’s hard to know where the financial support is being allocated. However, since I am not involved in Kuwait's federation, and I coach at the Kuwait Riding Center, I can speak on their behalf by saying that we have prepared a future plan for our riders. We have been working hard with our riders to prepare them for the Arab League competitions and our results were higher on the National level. The Kuwait Riding Center will continue to support its riders, as we will search for sponsors in order to allow the riders to represent Kuwait What would you like to say to STUDENTALK readers? Firstly, I would like to thank STUDENTALK magazine for the coverage opportunity. I would like to extend my warm gratitude to Americana Company that sponsored me last year during the Kuwait National Competitions. Also, without my father and uncles' support I would not be where I am today! My advice to STUDENTALK readers is to join sports and work hard because they are as capable to win medals as anyone. I used to be scared of horses and now I am competing in international competitions, so if I can do this so can you!

rom the dress code for guests attending events at the Guards Polo Club comes La Martina’s “Royal Box” capsule collection for FW 2014/15, which features a palette of more natural colours and a Scottish tartan as a sign of friendship between the peoples of the Union Jack. Designed to complement the Guards Polo Club Collection, on sale in the official store of the famous Club, founded in 1955 with the Queen’s consort, H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, as President, “Royal Box” is a concentrate of stylistic references – from the military flavour that permeates the entire collection to the exclusive patches inspired by the heraldic symbols of the British Monarchy. There is a particular emphasis on wool, as opposed to cotton, and the colours of choice range from natural shades of camel to grey mélange, in place of the more traditional English navy blue. A plethora of buttons and graphics that reinterpret the rose that appears on the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom complete a collection styled to underscore the British origins of the game of polo, whose rules were first written by British military corps.

Top right, the military style wool jacket, part of the “Royal Box” capsule collection, spearhead of the line dedicated to the sophisticated taste of Guards members and visitors. Left, outlines, fabric samples and a sketch of the Scottish tartan jacket inspired by Prince Charles’s kilt.

Yes. I would like the government to support football more because of the amazing potential available.

I believe football is not getting enough support from the government. They should invest in the players in order to have high skills in football like the national players in other countries.

I think if the government provided more support to Gymnasium, by financing their required needs, then the Kuwaiti players will be able to compete in the Olympics.

Investing in football fields, coaches and time will allow Kuwait’s National Football team to win the Asian Cup and successfully compete with several international teams effectively.

I don’t think that several people in our society know that Kuwait’s Water Polo was qualified to the world cup. I think they deserve more media coverage.

There are several skilled Kuwaiti champions in several sports such as Waterpolo, Basketball, and Boxing. The government should provide them with financial support and the media should provide them with the support they deserve.

The government should support Feye Sultan, a Kuwaiti swimmer who competed in the Women’s 50m Freestyle event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. There should be more investment in swimming and shooting.

People in Kuwait enjoy watching and playing Football and I believe that it needs more support from the government in order to improve the league and make it more official.

Students Said Investigation

Investigation

Sports in Kuwait and government support Several Kuwaiti players participated during the Asian Games and represented Kuwait very well through their outstanding performances. Some won medals and others achieved great results. This outstanding incident allowed STUDENTALK to be intrigued to discuss the performance of Kuwait’s sports club and how they are supported by the government. As we all know, Arab cultures enjoy watching soccer games. It is evident that they are provided more media coverage more than any other sport clubs. STUDENTALK investigated this topic by asking four university students participating in sports clubs at the Australian College of Kuwait. Let’s observe their response in regards to sports clubs in Kuwait and government support.

26

It is widely renowned that Arab cultures appreciate soccer, whether to watch or to play. Mahdi Najafpour, an Electronics & Control Engineer, plays at ACK’s soccer team, mentioned that there has been several improvements in regards to soccer. The improvements have been palpable with many “football grounds being built and renewed all over the areas of Kuwait.” With strong attention to soccer, improvement towards Kuwait’s talent shouldn’t be limited to one sport. For that reason Najafpour “strongly recommends more grounds to be built not only for football but other sports as well”.

When we asked the students about government support towards sports clubs in Kuwait. Raheel Atheem, the table tennis player at ACK majoring in Business, mentioned that the American Football team in Kuwait hired a professional coach “which shows that the government is investing in sports.” Atheem said that the government is not only providing them with financial support but they are implementing their vision.

The basket ball player at ACK, Khaled Al-Ahmed agrees with Atheem about the government supporting the American Football team in Kuwait. Khaled aims to see Kuwait as a unique country competing against international teams from the US and Canada. Another reason why Khaled urges the government to support American Football is that it “needs a strong body and fast players, and here in Kuwait people are fit for such sport.” Through government support, the team will be able to represent Kuwait on an international level as Arab countries are not renown to compete in American Football.

While Najafpour and Atheem make an excellent point regarding government support to sports club, yet we do not watch soccer or basketball games for girls. Mariam Omar, basket ball player majoring in Civil Engineering, said while playing on the ACK’s basketball team, there was hardly any motivation for girls to join. “ I do not think the government is supporting sport clubs especially the ones that girls are involved in unlike football that’s why girls are not coming up to the game” - mentioned Ms. Omar. To solve such a problem, Ms. Omar suggested that similar to western countries, universities should have a sports scholarship. Students who are well experienced in a certain sports during their high school years would receive at least a 10% scholarship to play for a university’s team in the future.

Student Life University Clubs

Leaders of the M2Club Khaled Al-Amer & Dana Al-Asousi

Since its establishment, the Management and Marketing Club (M2Club) was keen on achieving its mission by serving all students at Kuwait University College of Business Administration. Developing a harmonious university life, the club created different events that benefit, entertain, and break the students' daily routine. Khaled Al-Amer, the President, and Dana Al-Asousi, the Vice President, worked together to positively influence the students by offering training courses and seminars. Let's embark on the business world with the Marketing and Management club through this fruitful interview with STUDENTALK Magazine. What were M2Club’s accomplishments in the last year? Khaled: The M2 Club has conducted several activities and accomplishments in the last year. Our biggest accomplishment is that we won the first place at the Youth Empowerment Symposium. The club also engaged in a charitable event whereby we organized a trip to the elderly home in Kuwait. Dana: One of the ways that the club engaged with the KU students on campus was by creating different types of seminars to cater all different tastes. Seminars for business students were: “Your Passion for Customer Service” with Ms. Nawal Al-Maheni, Starbucks Seminar with one of its founders, and “The Marketing Evolution” week. Other activities conducted by the club, not related to business, were the seminar of “7 Ways to be Healthy” and a training course for “Photography Essentials.” What future preparations does the club have for the CBA students? Khaled: We are preparing for our upcoming outstanding event in the Spring Semester which is the Marketing and Management Week. We will be providing several seminars for the students to enrich their educational experience. The Marketing and Management Week is also a way for brands to reach out for Kuwait University students through their sponsorships. Dana: Adding on to Khaled’s statement, the M2Club will cooperate with the sponsors to provide the students with activities, seminars and training courses. It will provide the sponsors a chance to easily approach their target, which are Kuwait University students. Moreover, our activities will alleviate the students tiresome from university work. How does the Marketing and Management Club benefit business major students? Khaled: The club opened its arms to all the students. We aim to facilitate the students educational experience. As a result, we provided the “Major Sheet” at the beginning of the school year that helped students enroll in classes that were not available. The club worked really hard in providing the students with the courses or subjects they need to fulfill their major requirements.

‫حياة الطلبة أندية جامعية‬

Dana: We aspire to be the guide and the voice for the students. As many of you have experienced, students tend to struggle while communicating with professors and voicing their opinions about their problems on campus. We aim to voice their opinions, ideas or even troubles to the professors and the management so they can feel that they belong to a community. Did the M2Club cooperate with other clubs on campus? If yes, how so? Khalid: Yes, the M2 Club did cooperate with the Local Businesses Club in an initiative for autistic patients. We worked together on such initiative to raise the students awareness on this health condition as well as raise financial support for the patients. Dana: It brings me a great deal of pleasure to cooperate with other university clubs at the College of Business Administration for students to enjoy an outstanding college experience. We welcome any collaboration from any club under one condition, that it is for a meaningful cause. How did the M2Club benefit you on a personal level? Khaled: It is my personal gateway from the university workload. It helped me utilize my free time in an effective way. It was an added value to my character as it taught me how to be a good leader as the President and how to manage my time and the members effectively. Dana: Articulation, persuasion and management are the skills I gained as the Vice President of the Management and Marketing Club. I was able to utilize all the marketing terminology and strategies that I have studied in my courses to persuade sponsors to take part in our events. As marketing is an integral part of Business, we wanted to educate business and non-business students about some of its strategies in a simple manner. As a result, the “Gorilla Marketing Event” was a success as several students, non-marketing majors, enjoyed it.

Student Diwaniya Topic of the Month

Want to look ab-tastic?

Written by: Tori Danner, 21, AUK, Media & Communication

The first thing people think of in relation to either exercise or health, or anything that has to do with fitness; is to postpone it. Just like schoolwork, fitness and health cannot be postponed. The truth is that people our age tend to be the best when it comes to procrastination. The first lesson we learn when we enter university is the danger of such, and this applies to all areas of our life, especially when it comes to exercising. Good... Nay, great physical health comes from a functional diet and healthy exercise. However, the main stigma that comes along with health and fitness is the conception that, the same diet or gym schedule should suit all, and that is completely wrong, one size does not fit all. The main caveat here; is to show you that not everyone should follow the general or in this case, the most popular formula of exercise or diet. Moreover, studies have proven a direct correlation between exercising and higher test scores. Therefore, if you’re trying to improve your GPA, exercise may just be the perfect solution for you. Even if just entails a 20 minute walk before an exam or quiz, this can have quite a substantial effect on your scores. Have you ever heard of the expression: use it or lose it? Well similarly, if you don’t use your body and opt to spend majority of your time laying down watching TV Shows, chances are your body won’t be able to function as it should be. I’m not saying you shouldn’t watch TV Shows, by all means do! However, consistency is key. For dieting, the first thing you should do is to seek out a certified nutritionist (emphasis on CERTIFIED!) that will give you a list of your dietary requirements that best suits your weight and body type. For exercise, the first thing you should do is find a gym that suits your physical activity needs and is relatively close to your home or place of work. What most people don’t understand is that, if the gym is too far from where you spend most of your evenings or nights, and then you will surely put off going there until you have enough time. Time management is vital here, because you need to make sure that the gym can accommodate your already busy everyday lifestyle. Furthermore you should find a trainer that can start you of with the basics of physical exercise, so you can ease yourself into the process and not burn out too early. Although I would recommend that you join the gym with a partner or friend, I say this because having someone go through the process with you, would significantly motivate both of you into reaching your ab-tastic future selves.

Tell us about yourself? My name is Mohammad Al-Sarraf, I am studying and working simultaneously at ACK. I study Business Management and I am working as a Marketing and PR Officer. I love playing sports. I enjoy practicing football and volleyball with my friends. I am known for playing music at several events on campus as I play 5 different instruments.

What is your talent? I am surrounded by my passion for playing instruments. I play 5 instruments, Piano, Guitar, Violin, Oud & and Buzuk. How did you develop your talent? Practice makes perfect! I practice every single day on all the instruments. I play music of songs I love so I can enjoy my practice time.

What are your future plans? My future plans include playing in different performances in different places in Kuwait. I played my first concert and I’m looking forward to do more concerts in the future. Who supported your talent? My family and friends supported me! I have several followers on Instagram that encourage me as well. After I perform at any event, people come up to me to acknowledge my talent. They express their supports towards to my talent.

I play music of songs I love so I can enjoy my practice time. Did you encounter any obstacles? The obstacles that I have encountered are mainly financial obstacles. Instruments here in Kuwait are pretty expensive, especially if you are looking for something that is really good quality. As I play on five different instruments, buy each and everyone was difficult. A good quality guitar may cost up to KD 270. Also, a Vilion could reach between KD 600 to KD 800. Any last words for the readers? I would like to express my gratitude towards STUDENTALK Magazine for this great opportunity. I would like to invite everyone to see my live performance in November :D

Tell us about yourself? My name is Batool Adel Al-Ali, I study at the AUK majoring in Computer Engineering. I am known for playing piano and singing. What is your talent? I have several talents such as graffiti drawing, baking and singing. However, my number one talent is playing the piano.

How did you develop your talent? Actually, I was really interested in instruments in general but after having two guitars as decorations in the room I taught myself how to play the piano keyboard. I used to follow the instructions from YouTube videos, I never took music lessons. I mostly play songs by heart and not chords.

What are your future plans? Right now, I am not thinking about the future as I want to enjoy every minute playing the piano. It is my gateway from reality. It relaxes me and entertains people, which is something I really love! Who supported your talent? My number one supporter was my mother. At the beginning, when I was learning she did not like the way I was playing. She did not discourage me and told me to keep practicing. Now, she enjoys listening to my music.

Never hide your talents from the world, it is a way for you to influence the world to be a better place. Did you encounter any obstacles? Practicing on my own was very hard. I had difficulties mastering the music I was playing. Yet, I never gave up! I kept teaching myself until I became where I am today. Any last words for the readers? Art, healthy food, local produce and amazing atmosphere, what more do we need? Just like every other store, Elevation Burger picked the ultimate location to be closer to their fans, and people who fancy high quality, organic and delicious food who live close by the Al-Bidaa area. The timing of the opening could not have been any better. Elevation Burger’s Bidaa store opened its doors just as Kuwait's weather started getting cooler. Elevation Burger’s Bidaa store is pleasantly designed, has two floors, and a spacious outdoor seating area. So you can enjoy the gorgeous weather or the beautiful view of Rumaithiya when you eat the delicious burger upstairs. Now, before we enjoyed Elevation Burger’s newest store at Bidaa, we had received a surprising Thank You note from Elevation Burger at STUDENTALK's office. The thank you note was attached to a baby plant of cherry tomatoes. Yes, there is a meaningful story behind it! You see Elevation Burger's core value is to provide organic, healthy and environmentally friendly food. Their toppings and salads are prepared from fresh daily local produce . Local produce is renowned to be more nutritious and eco-friendly as it travels a short distance from farms to your burger. Elevation Burger wanted to thank supporters, friends and loyal fans who have supported their growth by offering them the joy of growing local produce themselves. Project Tomatoes came to life! Customers could also get a cherry tomato plant from Elevation Burger’s Bidaa Store. All they needed to do is trade in their Club7 Card for a cherry tomatoes plant and follow Elevation Burger’s accounts on social media

Capture Life's Moments in Full-size Lumia 730 - the must have Selfie phone this season!

Gadgets

Sorry Ellen, you don’t need a longer arm or a selfie stick to include more people or click better photos at Oscars or anywhere else for that matter. All it takes is a Lumia 730 powered with a full-HD 5MP wideangle front-facing smartphone camera enabling one to take perfect impromptu group snaps. But what does this mean?

Simply speaking, it means that the photo you capture with this innovative front-facing camera will have more in it. More scenery, more detail, more you – more of everything. So, you can run, you can hide but you can’t escape from the selfie trend as the brand new Lumia 730 is here to redefine how the world takes selfies. They are the answer to today’s mobile imaging challenges. With over 93 million selfies taken every day around the world and a staggering 1 million of these selfies are uploaded on social media, the need for a mobile phone with great selfie taking capabilities is in dire need. And with this trend sweeping the world, Microsoft Mobile Devices have designed and delivered a device that will enable the average Joe to take amazing selfies. Back in the days, people had to use their rear camera to take selfies and they would also attach them to selfie sticks to capture a wider “bird-eye” picture. The Lumia 730 and 735 smartphones however solve this issue with their wide angle lens, empowering people to take avant-garde level of selfies that will drive their friends insane. Commenting at a recent Lumia experiential activity, Sahar Elsayed - Manager, Product & Portfolio Management at Microsoft Mobile Devices said: “The imaging philosophy for this model required us to design a phone with a front-facing camera that delivered the same results as any main camera. We used a 5MP sensor with a big pixel size, developed super wide optics design and bent some laws of physics to make it fit to the product without any compromises.” The devices combine a slim, vibrant style with powerful performance to create an uncompromised smartphone experience. The Lumia 730 is equipped with the dual SIM 3G support whereas the Lumia 735 has 4G LTE connectivity and also provides outstanding personalisation brought by the Windows Phone 8.1 platform.

58

With all that talk, let’s not forget about the back facing camera with its 6.7 MP ZEISS lens, which can also take breathtaking pictures. And with that wide aperture of F/1.9 and some practice you can take amazing pictures with real blurred effects and create depth of field, so the subject of your photo will look robust and clear. “The Lumia 730 is easily the best device to take selfies. End of story. I have been using it for the past two weeks for my blog postings, and I have to say I am very pleased with the results. Not only have I taken many shameless selfies, I have also been able to share them on social media seamlessly thanks to its easy and user friendly Windows 8.1 Smartphone operating system.. This is the go-to mobile device to satisfy your day-to-day needs,” said Natasha Northcote, a renowned fashion blogger in the UAE.

Lumia Selfie Apps With the Lumia 730, there is a plethora of apps to help you perfect that selfie. So instead of just adding a high performance camera to the device, Microsoft Mobile Devices has developed a new Lumia selfie app. It is perfect for taking selfies with the front or main camera. Not only that, but you can also add filters, fine-tune facial details and create themes. But what is by far the most interesting feature is the self-portrait assistant, to help you take the best selfie. Another Microsoft exclusive is the Lumia Creative Studio, where you can create studiolike images using the in-app edit tools. These include tilt-shift or circular blur, high-resolution reframing and colour popping. With all this in place, get ready to take your next social by storm with mind-blowing selfies.

Porsche Centre Kuwait

Heralds arrival of the all-new Cayenne Cars

Embodying more power and greater efficiency, Porsche Centre Kuwait, Behebani Motors Company has welcomed the arrival of the all-new Cayenne, boasting enhanced performance, a sharpened design and more exciting features as standard. The new Cayenne extends the model’s evolving, twelve-year success story as it continues to underline its position as a true sports car amongst SUVs.

The new generation Cayenne will launch in three versions: Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo, and for the first time, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, the first plug-in hybrid in the premium SUV segment. Adding another chapter to Porsche’s unrivalled legacy of breaking new automotive ground, this model, together with the Panamera S E-Hybrid and the 918 Spyder, makes Porsche the world’s only carmaker to offer three plug-in hybrid models. At first glance, the new Cayenne is a Porsche through and through with its bi-xenon headlights and four-point LED daytime running lights. The new layout of the model’s rear lights creates a three-dimensional effect with the brake lights designed in four elements. The license plate, boot handle and lights are now integrated more elegantly into the boot lid. In addition to other modifications, the newly developed exhaust tailpipes are now incorporated in the lower rear section, while an automatically activating boot lid is fitted as standard. In the interior, much of the layout has been shaped around the driver, with a new multifunction sport steering wheel – which can also be found in the 918 Spyder – featuring shift paddles as standard. The rear seating system is even more comfortable, with optional seat ventilation now available for the first time. Power and torque have been boosted while improving fuel economy in line with Porsche’s commitment to maximum output from minimum input. All new Cayenne models consume significantly less fuel, with the help of new features including a coasting function, a further advanced auto stop-start function plus and optimised thermal management, with Active cooling air flaps now being used for the first time in the Cayenne.

‫أسلوب الحياة السيارات‬

Powering Porsche into the future is the pioneering Cayenne S E-Hybrid which showcases further technical development compared to the previous Cayenne S Hybrid. The new model has a lithium-ion traction battery with an energy capacity of 10.8 kWh, which enables an all-electric driving range of 18 to 36 kilometres. The power of the electric motor has been more than doubled: from 47 hp to 95 hp. As a result of the brand’s advanced plug-in hybrid technology, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid has a fuel economy of only 3.4 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of a mere 79 grams per kilometre, which are all impressive figures for an allwheel-drive car.

Leading the model field is the compelling Cayenne Turbo, powered by a 4.8-litre bi-turbo V8 engine that produces 520 hp at 6,000 rpm and 750 Newton metres of torque from 2,250 to 4,000 rpm. This lets the Cayenne Turbo accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds (4.4 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package). Its top speed is 279 km/h. NEDC fuel consumption is 11.5 l/100 km.

The three-litre V6 supercharged engine (333hp) and the electric motor (95hp) produce a combined system power of 416 hp at 5,500 rpm and a total system torque of 590 Newton metres from 1,250 to 4,000 rpm. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is accomplished in 5.9 seconds to a top speed of 243 km/h. The maximum speed in all-electric mode is 125 km/h. The traction battery can be charged from the electric power grid or while driving. Matching the Hybrid’s raw performance credentials is the all-new 3.6-litre V6 biturbo engine of the Cayenne S which has been fully developed by Porsche and returns fuel consumption between 9.5 and 9.8 l/100 km, according to the NEDC. This represents one litre less than with the previous V8 engine. The biturbo V6 develops a maximum power of 420 hp at 6,000 rpm – a gain of 20 hp. The car’s torque of 550 Newton metres (+50 Newton metres) is available from 1,350 to 4,500 rpm. The power density per litre of displacement is now 117 hp, a gain of almost 40 percent gain. With its standard eightspeed Tiptronic S transmission, the Cayenne S accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds (5.4 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package) – 0.4 seconds faster than the previous Cayenne S. The vehicle’s top speed is 259 km/h.

From Paris with Love

Ooredoo's Paris Saint-Germain trip with STUDENTALK magazine

As the fall season sets in, we pack off to Paris on the 24th of October for an inspirational trip to watch the Paris Saint-Germain match. We couldn’t contain our excitement as we gathered at the airport to catch our flight that morning. We were 16 young students from different backgrounds, different majors, taking selfies with our boarding passes or instagramming the classic photo of a cup of coffee with our passports and boarding passes, hashtag: off to PSG! It started a couple of months ago, when a competition was announced across different universities and on Ooredoo Kuwait’s Instagram account. Luckily, I was one of the winners who answered trivia questions and won a free all-expenses-paid trip to Paris Saint-Germain, one of the world’s fastest-rising football clubs. The group was diverse, with students from Kuwait University, the American University of Kuwait, the Australian College in Kuwait, Arabi Sports Club, and Salmiya Sports Club. We learned that Ooredoo Telecommunication Group announced became the official partner of Paris Saint-Germain football club in 2013, Together, Ooredoo and Paris Saint-Germain are set to collaborate on football coaching for youth across the countries in which Ooredoo operates, in the MENA region as well as South East Asia. Ooredoo and Paris SaintGermain have launched a community coaching programme across Ooredoo’s footprint. The coaching clinics are designed to create life opportunities for young people. The plan for our long weekend was to watch the PSG team play and take in an exhibit or two in the City of Light. We were a 21-person troupe all in all. On the first day, Ooredoo staff who chaperoned us throughout the trip took us out to dinner. We were accompanied by Rawiah Alateeqi and Mohammad Behbehani from Ooredoo, as well as Manaf Ashkanani, the sports radio host of Marina FM, and Omar Al-Othman, whose Instagram account offers fascinating facts and pictures about his trips around different countries, and Injy Refaie, the Features Editor of STUDENTALK magazine, who covered the entire event. We stayed at Le Meridien Etoile Hotel. Our dinner wasn’t exactly a French-affair 6-course meal; we were really hungry, so they were kind enough to accommodate our request. We dined at La Grande Armee, a casual diner situated close to the ChampsÉlysées. We took a stroll together afterwards in the streets of Paris, taking in the beautiful scenery, the cool breeze of the night. Some decided to sit in cafes for dessert and coffee; others headed to the hotel and called it a night. I’m an early riser; I headed to bed early.

76

The next day was the big day! We went to the stadium where we met officials from PSG. We were given a brief yet informative tour of the stadium, and then escorted to our seats. The game kicked off, and after several minutes into the game it started to sink in; I’m among the lucky fans watching this live in the stadium, while thousands of fans around the world watch this on TV. I’m at the Parc des Princes, a sporting venue that dates back to the 19th century! The hospitality and generosity of Ooredoo, was unprecedented. As a group of youth, many of whom haven’t travelled alone before, let alone traveling to Paris, this meant a lot to us.

‫أخبار رياضة‬

Ooredoo and youth initiatives One of the main focuses of Ooredoo Group is youth. The vision of the company is to enrich people’s lives. The other facility that MantaDive offers is the MantaDive Tours which is a travel agency for those who are seeking the ultimate diving trip in different countries around the world such as Sharm Al Shiekh, the Bahamas and Thailand. The travel agency will provide you with the plane ticket, the hotel booking and the diving activities. How long did it take you to prepare for the Raid International event? We started preparing for it last June; we have been negotiating to get the franchise in Kuwait. This event is our launch into the Middle East. Raid is launched all over the world. It is a launch of our products and services. We are also explaining the benefits of joining Raid to other diving centers. Stuart Cove will be attending the event to present his services as well.

‫أخبار رياضة‬

What is RAID's mission? Our mission is to be the benchmark brand for quality dive training on a global level. We plan to do that through improved technology, training techniques, a proactive quality control system and ensuring the highest standard of dive instructors. The measure of our success is not by the number of divers we train, but by the quality of our divers. What sparked your interest in the marine industry? I studied in Perth Australia as a marine officer. I have always been interested in ship life and traveling the world. My love for the marine world kept growing as did my passion for diving. Do you plan to branch outside of Kuwait with your business? RAID International has plans to expand its operations in the region to help service Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member countries and the Kuwait and Qatar Offices. Captain Abdulrahman Alghanim is the CEO of RAID in Qatar – we're really good friends, actually. Do you think that diving is growing in Kuwait? It's growing and fast! People are very much into it right now; women are starting to get the hang of it – not just men. It was always perceived as a men's sport. However, nowadays, women are very interested in it as well. What is your life motto? I have a lot! I always say that we only live once, so we have to make the best of it. Enjoy every minute of every day because you never know what happens!

Celebrity News

Celebrities with Ab-tastic figures Almost all Hollywood actors hire personal trainers to be in shape. Old news right? Ofcourse they can afford so why wouldn’t they! Also, as physiognomy is an integral part of actors’ resumes, they need to spend the time and the money on it. Whether to look good or to be prepared for a new film role, working hard to obtain the perfect body with the 6-abs is a must! However, some actors are endowed great physical skills by practicing their favorite sports. A great way to save money (through they don’t need it!). Let’s dive into Hollywood’s best athletic actors of all time:

Jessica Biel

If the dictionary would add another synonym to physical beauty, they would definitely add Jessica Biel’s name. She has the body and face, she is every guy’s dream girl and as I am writing about her right now, I am frankly jealous. The breaking news that will be a cherry on every guy’s cupcake is that Ms. Biel enjoys watching and playing soccer. Also, she used to be a fully trained gymnast in her early days.

Snoop Dogg

Believe it or not, one of the most well-known rappers in the history of R&B, Snoop Dogg played semi-pro football. Rapping is not his only skill as he pretty good at demonstrating proper receiver skills, which allowed him to coach pop-warner football.

Zac Efron

The “High School Musical” star Zac Afron was a fond of basketball even before joining the movie. His basket ball skills were one of the reasons why he actually got the part. While watching the movie, I bet you all wondered why his throwing motion looks solid. We have the answer! He was spotted taking pitching practice with some of the Atlanta Braves during Spring Training.

Dwayne ''The Rock'' Johnson

The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, popularity allowed him to cross over from being the ultimate champion in the WWE into the mainstream of pop culture. Previously a college football player at University of Miami, The Rock embarked on his wrestling career when he was cut off the football season. After his success in wrestling, Johnson’s motion picture debut was a brief appearance as The Scorpion King in the opening sequence of The Mummy Returns. The movie’s financial success led to his first leading role, in the sequel The Scorpion King.

Justin Timberlake

Usually people play sports to be fit or out of pleasure but Justin Timberlake plays golf to show off his skills and compete with the investors. Justin Timberlake recently showed off his golf skills at a charity event, and has been linked to basketball and softball. His dancing skills also translate into athleticism, and he can hang with the best of them.

Your active nature according to your star sign Celebrity Birthdays: Scorpio Men:

He is serious and sometimes stern, with little time for the non-essential and unimportant. He seems to see the world only in black and white. Shades of grey are too ambiguous and do not interest him. He is incredibly curious, and wants to learn about everyone and everything, but he usually likes to figure these things out on his own.

Scorpio Women: Drake

Lorde

Leonardo DiCaprio

The Scorpio woman should never be taken lightly. They aren’t flaky, fluffy, or helpless creatures by any stretch of the imagination. Direct, and brilliantly sharp, Scorpio women only focus on the fundamental essence of any issue and disregard the superfluous. They like clear endings and beginnings, with no grey areas in between.

Virgo: August 23 — September 23

Pisces: Feb 20 — Mar 20

You crave adventure as you are blessed with high energy all the time! With the high energy comes the love of movement and what better way is there to stay moving than doing sports? Channel all this extra energy you have into some exercise.

Given the fact that you are a self-motivated person, the energy you gain will give you more than you need when wanting to place yourself into a fun game of football or any type of sport with your friends. Make time for it and go enjoy it.

There is no denying the simple fact that you’re a very positive and intelligent person. When you’re bored or just have nothing much to do, why not take that ‘intelligent energy’ into joining a sport or maybe even playing a game with some close friends.

Even though you enjoy trying new things, you aren’t someone who would be considered as energetic. Most of the energy you have is taken from those around you. You like to be in a social setting and you tend to find yourself on par with the energy in the room.

You tend to self-motivate yourself and your extremely masculine nature will drive you to try new things and lead a fun, sporty lifestyle. You don’t need that extra energy when it comes to sports since you already have it at all times!

You are a very interesting person and people simply love to be around you. Personally, you love the company and you enjoy every single minute of it. As a Virgo, you like to be at social events and gatherings but don’t consider yourself to be a sporty person.

84

You’re a social thinker, Libra. You’re strength is communication as you like to talk about personal experiences and make decisions on your own. Sports is simply not your cup of tea most of the time but you tend to make it happen once in a while.

When it comes to sports, you are a tireless worker and will always be willing to give your best even though it may be a sport you’re trying for the first time! Keep up that determination and it will get you far in the future.

In the world of sports, you simply love being a Sagittarius! You’re always positive, confident and enthusiastic. Your ambitious nature will prove to be extremely significant when participating in a sporting event and you’re not someone who plans to back down.

Even though you could describe yourself as confident and hardworking, your moody nature may tend to get the best of you. You’re not a sporty person and rarely find yourself in any type of sporting event. You may give it a try, but it simply may not be your thing to do anytime soon.

You are often described as active and communicative, which is always needed in sports. You love to participate in any sporting event and you may even find yourself organizing a few games and making things work perfectly with your leadership qualities.

You’re the type of person that loves to be alone a lot of the times and you don’t usually find yourself in sporting situations unless it’s something that you really enjoy participating in. You’re not usually considered to be ‘sporty’.
