Dear Students, Making a difference. How difficult is that!? Or, actually, how easy‌

Ahmad Al-Therban ahmad@ph7-kw.com

Think about it. If every one of us did one small thing a day, multiply it by the number of inhabitants in your country alone, and that is 4 million good things x 365 days = 1.4 billion good things in one year only!! Now tell me, can you make a difference!?! And the difference you make should be in parallel with the all the good things you are being blessed with. If you have nothing but your health - smile and smile from all your heart. If you have food - feed. If you live in wealth - spread. If you have hope - motivate. If you have skills - teach. If you have time - listen and care. As long as you have the precious gift of life, trust me, you can make a world of difference. May we all work for a better world. May we all live for a beautiful today and a better tomorrow. Till the next issue,

NOURA AL HAJERI My triathlon journey started back in 2010 when me and my friends decided to join the 3 club (a triathlon club) my goal was to get fit and lose weight. After few months of training with the group we volunteered in the first official triathlon organized by them in October 2010. We were so excited and wanted to join the next race, which was to take place in April 2011, it wasn’t easy to train for, we had to change our lifestyle completely, we needed to be good in all three sports (swimming, cycling and running).

I remember some days we were training twice a day, everyday for several hours each session. Abdulaziz Al Rashed Believe in yourself & Stay Positive

Everyone has their own dream, however chasing after that dream is where many usually come to a halt, get caught up in a routine or following through with dreams and goals set for them by their community, family, and friends. Abdulaziz Al Rashed, 18 years old and a freshman Business Management student at the Gulf University of Science and Technology in Kuwait has a passion for cycling, running, and swimming. As a member of the National triathlon Team and the National Cycling Team as a junior cyclist, Abdulaziz is our very own Kuwaiti Junior triathlete and cyclist. The journey began when Abdulaziz was 16 years old, watching his cousin going out on his bicycle with his friends and use it as a form of transportation. He was inspired to join him, so he made the choice to go out and get a bike for himself, beginning to use it as his own form of transportation from his house to his friends, the diwaniya, or just for fun. When he came across “Flying Start” in 2013, which is an annual local triathlete competition created to motivate the three triathlete members to continue training for triathlon, he said to himself “why not create a team and participate by doing the cycling part.” This was the unveiling to a whole new level of cycling and athletics for Abdulaziz and where he decided why not do it all, setting him on his path to becoming a triathlete. “If you want something, you go and get it… don’t wait for it to come to you” Despite the challenges he has faced and continues to face, such as; having trouble with time management between school and the 2 trainings a day he must complete, federation and administration restrictions, and not having a triathlete coach, he continues to push forward, finding way to make it work. He now works with three different coaches, one specializing in running, one in cycling and one in swimming and uses a triathlete coach in Spain to guide him in scheduling his sessions with all three coaches. “Having a bad session or a bad day of training is better than not having one at all” Now motivated to chase after his dreams and become a professional triathlete, Abdulaziz not only joined the National Cycling and Triathlon Teams, but also with only one year experience in competing professionally against the top triathletes in the region, he now holds: five championships, six gold, four silver, and 3 bronze medals and strives for more.

To be special, you have to make a difference by thinking outside the box as they said, don’t follow the old instruction that didn’t fit your need! Do your job in a different way. Be you, never ever try to be others.

For me, makinga difference does not mean to change the world, I can make a very big difference by drawing a smile on someone’s face.

Topic of the Month This Month’s Spotlight

The Fan of Change You could stare at a freshly painted wall all day, and no matter how long or how hard you hold your gaze, it will not make it dry any faster. You could roll a fan into the room, and quicken the pace ever so slightly, or better yet, have every one you know roll their own fans in and strategically place it at every inch of wall in need of drying. As a team, each giving in and pitching their help, the walls will dry a lot faster, making room for the next project to come.

‫في هذا العدد تسليط الضوء‬

We can choose to be affected by the world, or we can affect the world Heidi Wills

The walls are a metaphor for society. Some places, take more time than others to progress and open up. Some use quick dry paint, others can’t afford to. But one way or the other, if the paint does not completely dry at some point, you’re just stuck in a very sticky situation. Uncomfortable, unflattering, wet paint. You, in this scenario, are yourself, because no matter how much you sit there and complain whilst doing absolutely nothing, no change will happen. None at all, and you expect your world to change itself on your behalf. But this is reality, no matter how much you’d love for things to just work out the way you want them to, if you don’t do something about it yourself, there will be no improvement. You, must start with you. In the wise words of Michael Jackson, “I’m starting with the man in

the mirror.” Hence, even though you’d rather be sitting there for the rest of eternity in your wet painted room on a couch watching Netflix and chilling with your cats, you come to realize the smell will eventually kill you if you don’t do something about it. As will the unhealthy organization that surrounds you. Dreading the idea of having to move, you head out to buy a fan. The Fan of Change. Because if you don’t start the movement yourself, no one will.

Eventually you realize there is more wall than you and your fan can handle on your own. So you spread awareness. “Friends and family, alas I have left my couch of constant pessimism, in hopes of a change, but I can not do this alone, come one come all.” There will be others like you, who are sick of the stench of prejudice and judgment. They too want the paint to dry; they too will invest in a Fan of Change.

One fan up and running, determined to finally get that stubborn paint to dry on that traditional wall slathered messily with cultural staining. It’s doing something, not enough, but at least your conscience is satisfied at the thought of somewhat making a small change, to your little part of wall, with your little Fan of Change.

Before you know it, you’ve gathered enough people in need of a revolution just like you, all lined up together, facing the walls of deprivation and “no you can’ts”. The paint finally drying, the air clearing up, the hope rising. All it took was one person, a common goal, and a low to medium quality fan.

AUK Student Council STUDENTALK has met with members of the Student Council at AUK. The Student Council is the voice that represents the student body. They defend the rights of the students, and mediate between the administration and students. What has changed this year in comparison to last year? The biggest challenge was getting our name out there; students were used to the Student Government Association (SGA). SGA was officially changed to Student Council, which has similar positions, however the election and voting systems are different. We were new and the students didn’t know who we were and whether we could help them out. This year we have a large number of involvement, even within the Student Council, we have 40 members (largest number in years).

2015/641

What have you done so far? We are representing the students (actually doing our job). We held an open forum and told the student body of our plans, they saw that we are achieving what was promised. We started

1804080 www.burgan.com 30

solving whatever problems the students were having. We have also organized a winter camp with around 300 students attending. How do you feel you can help AUK? Through constant struggle and hard work, we can help by changing and always finding a better way to do things. Liaising between the students and administration in order to create a more efficient system for everyone. What can we expect for next year? Have a higher rate of involvement, a higher voting turnout. More events, as they tend to get high interaction with the student body. Any final words for the readers? Motivate yourself before motivating others, be the change you want to see.

The Local Scene Artist of the Month

Ahmad Sulaiman Ahmad Sulaiman, a marketing student at the Australian College of Kuwait. He is a talented artist, he draws, paints, and does graffiti. We had the pleasure of meeting Ahmad and to take a look at his work. When did you start drawing? It all began when I was three years old; I started drawing characters and human beings. Having the interest in drawing, I took a few art classes in high school; however, they were quite boring, so now I am applying to an art school in the United Kingdom. Hopefully I will get accepted and go after I am done with my diploma. Is there a certain character you enjoy drawing? When I was younger I started drawing super heroes, and I have two special characters that I like to draw. One has a cat mask, and the other has a giant sphynx cat with him at all times. What else do you like to draw? I can draw portraits, I like to paint, sometimes, human faces (close up), I also draw still life, but I find that boring, I spray paint as well. How long does it take to finish a project? If it is a painting it will take me a week or two, if it is a drawing it takes me longer, because I like to focus on the details. What inspires you? I get my inspiration from anything like people and culture. I add things, such as swords and deserts from Arabian culture, and cats from Ancient Egypt. How did you get into drawing? And how did you learn? My father draws, which encouraged me to teach myself how to draw. I practice on a daily basis so that I can keep improving. Did you partake in any art exhibitions? I took part in an exhibition at ACK, which I got a prize for. I also participated, as a graffiti artist, in the Alwan festival. What projects are you working on? I want to create a comic book, I have a story, and it’s about three brothers in a desert world that I made up. Each brother has a face tattoo and they each have a giant sphynx cat. The older brother disappears and takes his cat, so the two younger brothers go in search of him

with their cats. I made it very vague as I want to add more to story. I’m planning to name the comic Sphynx, for now, I still haven’t named the characters though. Do you think that art and drawing are appreciated in our country? In our country they don’t appreciate art as a career, they think of it as a hobby. They appreciate money more, they focus on lucrative jobs. Do you follow any artists? I follow Asian artists as they tend to be advanced in drawing Manga and comics. What are the difficulties that you face while drawing? The hands and feet, they’re very hard. I like hands though and through practice I have gotten better, however I still avoid drawing feet. Faces can be hard if you’re doing something new or drawing a different ethnicity. How do you manage your time between your studies, drawing, and the comic book? So far, marketing has been easy as it is logical and makes sense, they give us a lot of work. As I draw every day I try to draw something specific for the comic, that way I get some progress done. Does your family support your decision to go to art school? At first, my family was a bit nervous of the thought of me going to art school, but the more I draw the more they understand that I really want this. What do you want to do after art school? I want learn animation and I want make an animated movie about my characters. Hopefully I can also do a video game, as I like the mechanics behind it. My friend is studying computer engineering in the United States and we want to create the video game together.

RS

Mohammad Al-Rashid

Mohammed AlRashed, a 21 year old student, is the drive behind the designs of the brand RS. We had the chance to speak with Mohammed and learn a little more about his brand.

Tell me a little bit about yourself. Mohammed AlRashed, a 2rd year AUK student majoring in Finance. Turning 21 on May 4th. I like to be myself, do the stuff that I love, drink coffee, go out for a walk, see my friends and enjoy each moment as if it’s my last. I dislike the negative energy. I’m interested in exploring whatever is different and new. I love to design clothes and cook! Cooking been my hobby since I was a child. I’ve started my brand back in July 2015 with my friend Ahmed AlRashed.

into the streetwear world. The Arabic words, numerals and characters are something different to what people usually might consider being on a shirt. About the name, my friend and me were thinking of a name, we wanted something with no meaning yet so simple, so we went with RS.

What got you interested in creating shirts and designs? I’ve always wanted to have my own clothing brand; the process of designing and creating a piece from scratch is the most interesting part Also, to wear and let people wear something that I have created is a reason for me to be interested in this field. And with the help and support of my friend Ahmed AlRashed I’ve started it.

Do you follow international trends, colors, designs at all? If so, explain what type and why? Of course, in order to satisfy our customers and compete with others we need to follow what is trending when it comes to colors and designs to deliver something that is successful and wanted.

Where do you get your inspiration from for your designs? Everything that has beauty inspires me; even people and stories inspire me. What is the story behind the designs and the name? The designs are a different and new concept

40

Who are your target audience? Basically males and females between 16 and 35.

Who inspires you most? My family. What are your dreams and goals? Short term & long term I only got goals; dreams are something that might not happen. One is to make my brand hit global. Another one is to be successful and deliver something really great for this world.

Artspace Tissue Texture Mixed Media

Artspace is a visionary concept in Kuwait, pioneered by a team dedicated to artistic expression. Every aspect of Artspace has been carefully curated to help you explore art as a personal talent, and shape your own artistic voice.

Project Name :Tissue Texture Mixed Media Level: Beginner Duration: 2 hours What you’ll need for the String Art piece: * Canvas (size of your choice) * PVA glue (also known as white glue) * Thick Tissue (or napkin) * Water cups * 1 Medium brush for glue * 1 Medium bush for paint * Acrylic Paint *Tip : This project is all about being messy while enjoying the process. There is really no right or wrong way in creating texture. So let loose and enjoy!

Step 1 : Prep: Water down half a cup of PVA glue with some water. Rip up pieces of napkins dip them into the PVA glue generously and place them randomly on the entire surface of your canvas in a wrinkled manner.

42

Step 2: When the tissue texture is completely dry, decide on the colours you will be using as a background making sure they are harmonious. You can refer to a colour wheel in order to make good matching decisions.

Step 3: Paint the entire canvas using your three harmonious colours. We used: Ochre yellow, Cream, and White. Tip: Start with the lightest colour in your palette working your way into the darker shades.

‫المشهد المحلي‬

Step 4: When the background is completely dry, use black or brown paint to paint the bark and branches of the tree. Make sure you dip your medium brush into the water to allow the paint to run smoothly on the now rough surface

Step 5: Beautify the painting with cherry blossom flowers! Using a square brush and pink paint, follow the pictographs step by step in order to get extremely easy as well as gorgeous flowers for your tree.

Step 6: Using the back of the brush dip it into white or yellow paint to create the inside of the flower.

Nothing makes me so happy as to observe nature and paint what I see Henri Rousseau

Neymar Jr. 5 features one twist compared to normal 5-a-side football – every time a team scores, the opposition loses a player. In Kuwait, the tournament will kick off on May 2 hosting eight qualifiers and giving the chance to 128 teams to take part in this global competition. The qualifiers will take place in Hassan Abul (May 2-3) “Goal” football fields in Fahaheel (May 11-12), Al Shaab (May 1516) Al Jahra (May 19) and in Kuwait University Adailiya (May 23). I’m really looking forward to seeing what these players can do and have a great time doing it,” said Neymar Jr.

To celebrate the launch of Neymar Jr’s new signature football tournament “Neymar Jr’s Five”, we asked the Brazil captain to pick the four current players he would want alongside him in a five-man team.

Dani Alves: “When I arrived at Barcelona, he was my partner on the right wing and we struck up a great relationship. Dani is one of my best friends in football as well, so it would be fantastic to have him in the team.” – Neymar on Alves

Turning Students into Business Professionals INJAZ-Kuwait has been in the business of creating independent, responsible, and hard working individuals for over a decade. In helping the youth open their own business, INJAZ is also benefiting the community through job opportunities.

46

‫المشهد المحلي‬

What is INJAZ-Kuwait? And what makes it different from other non-profit NGOs? INJAZ Kuwait is a non-profit (NPO), nongovernmental organization (NGO) driven by Kuwait’s private sector that deals with the youth generation in Kuwait to develop their capabilities and inspire them to have their own business and create small to medium enterprises or companies. In addition, we encourage students to work in the private sector, by providing them with the necessary skill set through INJAZ programs. Since 2005, INJAZ-Kuwait has reached close to 40,000 students from more than 80 educational institutions, thanks to almost 3000 volunteers—and growing. INJAZKuwait connects corporate volunteers to mentor youth through JA programs. Volunteers undergo orientation and training before they embark on their mentoring experience to enhance their readiness as well as performance during mentoring sessions to inspire the youth. INJAZ was founded in 2005 in response to the need to develop the youth of Kuwait, The programs changes the mindset of the youth exposing them to entirely new concepts and encouraging them to think critically about the world around them. What are the benefits that students get from participating in INJAZ-Kuwait’s programs? Benefits are to open their mind to endless possibilities to leadership and owning their own business and companies to develop and support the economy in Kuwait. INJAZ-Kuwait has been operational for 11 years, what are the achievements accomplished to date? I think that INJAZ biggest achievement is supporting government schools in Kuwait. Helping the youth of these schools to get the best exposure from their mentors. Also giving the chance for mentors to support the youth to achieve their dreams with guidance of experience. Can you share with us some success stories from students who have completed programs with INJAZ-Kuwait?

SUCCESS STORIES: Othman Boodai 2007 INJAZ-Kuwait Company Student Founder, Green Target Co.

Program

In 2007, Othman Boodai was a regular kid in high school, who liked to play with his friends. One day a friend approached him and told him that an organization named INJAZ was coming to school. “What is INJAZ?” he asked. His friend responded, “INJAZ will teach us how to start a company. We will become businessmen and learn to make money”. They both registered their names to attend the program, which would change their lives. A volunteer from the private sector visited their classroom and shared his experiences with the group. The volunteer laid down 2 conditions if they were to start a company within the program: • KD 75 start-up capital • Duration of the company would be 3 months and then they’d have to liquidate They brainstormed ideas that contained 3 aspects: make money, add value to the country and could be sustainable. Through research it was established that 450 tons of paper waste was being buried underground and this waste could be the main source for recycling books and materials for industries. The idea was then to collect the paper before it went to waste so they can save the environment, as well as sell the paper to recycling factories, which would then make them some money. They collected hundreds of tons of paper and sold each ton for KD15. By the end of the program, they earned around KD 1,075 in profit. Green Target now has entered various areas of recycling, for example plastic and school notebooks/materials. *Othman sold Green Target in 2015 and now runs a company called “Green Plastic”. Lifestyle Health

5 steps that will provide you with a healthier life style. Lately, a lot of us started obsessing over healthy food, losing weight and staying fit. But sometimes we get misled with too much information relating healthier food options, snacks and meals. To start off easy and try to get used to a healthier life style; here are 5 steps that will help you and prepare your body for a change.

1- Detox Water Drinking a lot of water is known to be one of the best things you can provide your body with; but detox water takes it to another level. It doesn’t only provide your body with sufficient amount of water but also helps you cleanse your body, kick out any toxins and helps you burn fat. There are around 20 different detox water recipes’ but the main known detox water is : • Slices of Lemon and Mint: Perfect way to start you morning since it jump-starts the metabolism and helps you awaken after a night of sleep. 2- Replace oil with spray oil Using corn oil or cooking oil in general is very unhealthy since it turns into saturated fat in your bodies which is very hard to get rid of. Try as much as you can to grill instead of frying; and when you do that replace any oil that you use with a spray oil since the portion would be nothing compared to using cooking oil and most of it will be burned during the cooking process.

58

*too many people believe that cooking with olive oil is healthier; but although it is more healthy and better to your body once its exposed to heat it becomes unhealthy just like the cooking oil. 3- Cut down carbs Carbs is another problem when it comes to our diet, as middle eastern people most if not 90% of our meals are based on white rice, white bread and toasts; these food contain complex carbs that our bodies cant digest properly so we end up storing. Try to minimize your carbs intake to once a day, as in including them in only one meal and not throughout the day. If you find it real hard to cut down on carbs; the least you can do is try and replace your white rice with brown rice, white bread/toast with brown bread/toast since brown carbs contain whole grains which are easier to digest. In addition, whole grains have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and certain cancers. 4- Reduce salts/sodium in your meals. We all know that adding salt to our meals makes it more delicious and yummy but salt

isn’t as good for your body as it is for your food. Excessive salts in our meals lead to high blood pressure which damages the kidneys over time, and leads to kidney failure sometimes. Not just that, salts in our bodies, help to store water which ends up making you look bigger or more bloated; and makes it harder to get rid of the water on your body to start losing weight. 5- Give up Soda We all know that soda can be the main reason to a fuller stomach and it makes you gain weight insanely; not only it makes you gain weight but also it is very unhealthy for your inner body. Drinking soda especially in the sun can limit your inner hydration since we go and drink soda instead of water; while we can be getting the benefits of water we end up getting the calories of a soda. Not just that, soda is also known to causes insomnia and sleeping disorders since it is highly on caffeine and not getting enough sleep affects your body functions and metabolism.

5 steps to a flawless foundation

We, as females, try our hardest to have the best and most flawless foundation on our faces. Now sometimes obtaining a flawless foundation isn’t such an easy job. And as we know, the way your foundation looks is the most important thing since it’s the base of the look. If the base isn’t good, the whole look won’t be perfected.

1. Moisturize: Moisturizing your skin is so important, more than you think it is. In order to get the flawless look your skin needs to be well moisturized during application. a.Dry skin: if you have dry skin, it is extra important for you to moisturize your whole face, because your foundation will create lines and look cracky around the dry areas. b. Combination skin: if you have a combination skin, in which some areas are dry others are oily. Make sure you moisturize the dry areas very well and slightly moisturize the oily areas. c. Oily Skin: if you have an oily skin, you probably get oilier when you move around, in the outside areas or when you wake up. So sometimes you don’t need to moisturize it further or else you’ll get too oily during the day. So here are two things you can do. • Moisturize before you sleep: Apply your moisturizer heavily before you sleep, your skin will suck in most of it and what’s left will gently

keep your face moisturized for the morning. • Use an oil-free moisturizer: another thing you can do, is use an oil free moisturizer or a moisturizer that is made especially for oily skin. Using that your skin will be nice and moisturized without looking all oily and shiny throughout the day. 2. Always Prime: using a primer that fits your skin type is a very important step. Because it will prepare your skin to accept the foundation and it will keep your foundation in place for the whole day. But always remember to choose a primer that works with your skin type. Ex. Never use an oil based primer if your skin is already oily. 3. Choose your foundation wisely: choosing the right foundation is the most important step of them all, because if you apply the first two steps correctly and then use a Matt foundation on your dry skin, your foundation would look bad. Always remember to identify your skin type first and then match to it your foundation.

4. SET SET SET: Always set your foundation to make sure everything stays in place. You can find different setting powders that might work on your skin. Personally I prefer a translucent setting powder because it doesn’t add extra color; it only sets the foundation/concealer in place. But again, it might vary depending on your skin type. 5. Drink Water: I’m sure you’ve heard this a million times before, but drinking water does affect the way your skin looks, we can moisturize our skin from the outside but only water can moisturized it from the inside. TIP: add cucumber slices to your water since cucumbers is very good for your skin ;)

Beyoncé Is the Lemonade Bitter or Sweet?

Beyoncé drops her latest album Lemonade, but the question we ask is “is this lemonade bitter or sweet?” As she walks down the street with a baseball bat in her hand bashing parked cars, you find her expressing her anger, while throwing her wedding ring at the camera and fiercely stating “If you try that…again, you’re going to lose your wife.” As her sixth album to be released with 12 tracks and an hour long film following,

66

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, a multiplatinum, Grammy Award-winning recording artist who’s acclaimed for her thrilling vocals, videos, live shows and the as wife of hip-hop artist Jay Z, expresses her anger and feelings towards infidelity. In 2013, Beyoncé told Vogue she “guesses” she’s a feminist, because she “believes in equality” and a year later followed with a performance at the MTV Awards in front of

the lights of “FEMINIST”. However, the short film Lemonade is said to be more specifically about race and the specific experiences of black women. Now, we are all left wondering what’s next, is the album and movie an unfiltered display of her personal life, walking on a tight rope with Jay Z for all to see, or is her personal life the ammunition to something much larger, where she implements a strong commitment to feminism and a political image?

PH7 Group Partners With Startup Kuwait

Zeina Mokaddam, Managing Director of PH7 Group, signed a media sponsorship agreement at the end of March with the Dean of the Business Administration College at Kuwait University, Dr. Jasem AlMudhaf. The agreement sees two of PH7’s magazines, STUDENTALK and MEN’S PASSION, become media partners of STARTUP KUWAIT. On signing, Zeina said, “We’re delighted to be working in support of this great initiative. STARTUP KUWAIT is something we at PH7, together with the whole of Kuwait, can truly believe is inspiring change”. The agreement was signed shortly before the beginning of the STARTUP KUWAIT competition – the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge - which began during April, Kuwait’s five major colleges (KU, GUST, BHCK, ACK and AUK) all participated. Spearheading the STARTUP KUWAIT program is Dr. Redha Behbehani (left, with Zeina Mokaddam). Driven by his vision and passion for enabling a new spirit of entrepreneurship across the nation, he said, “The days of the state supporting a whole nation through its oil and mineral wealth generously are no longer realistic. A student going from graduation directly to a job within the public sector is a disappearing scenario. Kuwait is developing to become a different nation now – it needs to become and is becoming more diverse”. Dr. Redha and STARTUP KUWAIT are poised to play a key role in developing future generations of Kuwaitis.

No cash. Just cans. Red Bull Can You Make It? Teams finished in Paris

One week, 398,157km and 16,036 traded cans later, the Red Bull Can You Make It? teams have arrived in Paris, to celebrate their adventures and share their journeys. 157 teams out of 165 made it to the City of Light in time, after being on the road for seven days, without any cash or personal phones, using Red Bull cans as their only currency. Last month, 165 teams took off from five starting points in Europe, with only one destination, Paris. Teams faced some highs and some lows on the way, while putting their bargaining skills to the ultimate test. From building a temporary house out of a cardboard box to showering in a waterfall, the 500 students have shown great team spirit. Getting a ride in a helicopter or exchanging a few cans for a wind surfing session on Lake Garda, are just some of the highlights they ticked off the adventure list. The Survivors team from Kuwait was on a mission traveling across Europe using only cans of Red Bull as currency. Neighbors for almost 10 years Mohammed Zakaria (Arab Open University student), Ahmad and El-Husseiny Zaghloul (Kuwait University students) are three adventurers who love to travel, however, never had the chance to go on such a challenging trip. “When I first heard about the competition, I was so excited to participate. Although it was difficult to think about, it my passion towards travelling and adventure that pushed me to do it,” said Zakaria. He continued: “When I first arrived at the starting point in Florence, I was nervous, and it was just a matter of 2 hours until we begin the journey. To be honest, looking at the other teams’ calm and joyful attitude was even more terrifying. I decided to live the moment and to stop worrying as I was confident that we can make it to Paris easily. We made many new friends and had a great time and memories with the other teams – it felt like we have known each other forever. This was the first time and definitely the coolest way to visit Europe. I would pay millions to go through this challenge again as this experience changed my way of thinking towards everything and taught me how to appreciate money and food”. Altogether 35 different means of transport

were used, including commercial flights, helicopters, bicycles, speedboats and their own feet. The teams passed through 20 countries experiencing different weather conditions and cultures. Teams had to stop at six checkpoints before reaching the finish line, choosing among 40+ European destinations such as Copenhagen, London, Budapest, Geneva, Bordeaux, Vienna, Krakow, Venice and Madrid.

Wauw from Belgium, finishing second. “We met some amazing people on the way, it’s incredible how far you can go with just cans and some charm,” shared the winning team Feel Alive. “It was a tough week but we made it, awesome journey.”

Teams were on the roll around Europe, landing one amazing trade after another. Cans were traded for skydiving, paragliding, indoor surfing, snowboarding, car rentals and five star hotels. Next to the ultimate highs, there were also some lows where teams had to sleep on floors or hitchhike for hours in the rain before anyone would pick them up.

The team with the best overall score is team Feel Alive (EE) with 580pts. The team of three students managed to pump up their scores in every category in the last days of the adventure, taking first place in social media strength rank, checkpoint challenge rank and the overall score. Team Wauw (BE) landed the second spot with 555pts, while team USU (US) finished third in the overall rank with 550pts and scored first place in the adventure challenge category.

“You never knew what will happen next. We went from a five star hotel to sleeping on a cardboard box in a parking lot,” said Team

Horoscopes Your Self-Reflection According to your Horoscope

Celebrity Birthdays: Taurus Man Earthy, ribald, and lusty. A Taurean man’s prudence seems to desert him at the first sign of love. Galloping headfirst into love and relationships, he is a man in love with love. His temper is a symptom of his deep underlying passion, if you can get beneath that thick hide of his.

Jack Nicholson

John Cena

Taurus Women The Taurus woman is tender and caring and she may have some firm opinions that can’t be changed -- but that can also equate to strength of character. She is sensible and patient – very winning qualities. Taurus’ element is earth, and Taurus Woman could be described as the original earth mother. Taurus Woman aims for balance in life. She loves nature and desires nothing more than to live in comfortable and colorful surroundings.

Aries: Mar 21 — Apr 20

An even better month lays ahead with more positive transits joining strong and Mars. There is some crazy energy around especially following the May 21 full moon, but you will cope better than most and should enjoy warm and friendly relations.

Taurus: Apr 21 — May 20

The focus on relationships carries over from last month and picks up steam. There are not so many transits in May as there were last month, but they are very pleasant. The last few weeks of the month are business as usually with only your longer term Neptune transit in play. Enjoy and relax!

Gemini: May 21 — June 21

Venus and Mars keeps the focus on relationships in May 2016 as was the case last month. Your birthday transit culminates with a full moon which places even greater emphasis on relationships. A full moon on Mars means extra patience is needed this month.

Cancer: June 22 — July 22

The positive influence from the April 22 Full Moon continues to bring harmony until the May 6 New Moon. The focus on love and money from late last month also continues in the first week but that is the end of your transits for May 2016.

Leo: July 23 — Aug 22

Any restrictive or limiting conditions since the April 22 Full Moon are likely to continue until the May 6 New Moon. Things then improve quickly with a series of strong and expressive transits ideal for taking the initiative.

Virgo: Aug 23 — Sept 23

More positive influences in the first week of May 2016 should relax the tension but the full moon on the 21st will increase any aggressive feelings. Mars creates a buildup of energy inside and a strong desire to assert yourself in an aggressive manner. This can result in frustration, anger and conflict.

Libra: Sept 24 — Oct 23

Your energy is high right now, and you are mentally alert, but it can be very hard to channel that energy in constructive ways. This is a good month for standing up for yourself, for tackling physical chores and for doing lots of little jobs rather than one long drawn out one

Scorpio: Oct 23 — Nov 22

Life is not linear, it is more like snakes and ladders, and sometimes if you push too hard in a direction resistance builds up – in May 2016 take your foot off the gas and take the pressure off yourself. Make time to relax and participate in an activity that gives back to you.

Sagittarius: Nov 23 — Dec 21

This is a good month for love as you are self-assured and confident, and thus able to express yourself and your needs in a positive way. Hit problems on the head by speaking about anything that is niggling immediately and getting it out the way – but read the next paragraph first.

Capricorn: Dec 22 — Jan 20

Emotions can run high in May 2016, and it may not be easy for you to see his/her point of view – you may be accused of not being sensitive enough. It is likely that you will say something that seems obvious to you, but is perceived as being very hurtful to the other person.

Aquarius: Jan 21 — Feb 19

Relationships can be tricky in May 2016 as you are giving mixed signals – you are saying one thing, but you are projecting something different and your loved one or those close to you may be reacting to what you are projecting rather than what you are saying and that can add to your confusion.

Pisces: Feb 20 — Mar 20

Relationships are intense in May 2016 whether they are new or established, and there can be a subtle battled of wills. You may not actually argue, but something is simmering below the surface, and it may be hard for you to broach the issue as you may think that perhaps you are imagining something.
