YOUNG VS. TALENTS HANS BOODT. We would like you to meet 5 students of the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Why? Because they’ve used the platform of Hans Boodt as a format for their fanciful magazine. And as a creative company, we always encourage young talent! In the second year of their studies Lifestyle & Design, they devised the concept for a magazine under the guidance of photographer Ari Versluis. With “identity” as a central theme, the quirky characters of our mannequins obviously couldn’t be missing in the editorial of Awkward Magazine, Issue M1015. With pride we present the result!
7.
AKWARD MAGAZINE. Our curiosity was aroused while shooting the Street Style section for Awkward Magazine. We visited the Nishicon convention in Haarlem, where Japanese comic and cartoon fans came together, dressed as their favorite character. Amused, fascinated and moved, we listened to their stories. It was so much more than just a big dress up party. You could actually feel the love in the air! That brought us to an important question: who or what determines your identity? What defines you? Your hobbies? Your favorite anime character maybe? Even the code on your buttocks? The driven people at Hans Boodt take matters into their own hands and manage to create a diversity of characters. Is this also possible with real humans? In other words, is it possible to actually create or change an identity of a breathing human being? On the other hand, mannequins don’t breathe, do not have genitals and sometimes don’t even have a real face. Does this mean a lack of identity? We doubt it… Find out and enjoy reading!
