Director’s Corner

great par ties go of f without a hitch and the holiday par ty was cer tainly not spared. Adapting to some technical dif ficulties with the horse racing DVD, Past Director Ron Colerick put on his horse racing hat and went about calling five horse races for nearly 200 people in attendance. Many were asking if his talents were live or par t of the DVD. Ron, great job coming through with your many skills and saving the day.

Here it is, the day after our chapter’s annual Holiday Par ty. If you were there you no doubt had a great time. If for some reason you missed it (…and I really can’t think of any good reasons for having missed it), then you missed a great time that included betting the horses, enjoying great food, acknowledging the ef for ts of our chapter volunteers, extending a hear ty thanks to Mar ty for his committed ser vice to our chapter, celebrating some special and personal moments (more on that in a bit) but most of all you missed time with your fellow HOGers, laughing and having fun. It’s always a great time when a group of diverse Harley-Davidson enthusiasts get together for whatever reason. A good time was indeed had by all. How about some thanks: All of the volunteers that helped with set up, working the betting tables, checking people in and handing out their money and tickets, those that helped answer questions or clean up before, during or after the holiday par ty. As the old saying goes…it takes the ef for ts of a few in order for the greater good to have a great time. Your ef for ts were spectacular and much appreciated. We also discovered new found skills in one of our own. Not all

Our night was made extra special with the announcement from Ahrlin the he of ficially popped the question to Joanie and without hesitation she said yes! Although final details are being worked out regarding the wedding, we extend H.O.G. best wishes to both Joanie and Ahrlin. Congrats guys! And did you know that a Black Hills chapter member was chosen as a grand prize winner of a brand new Harley-Davidson motorcycle of his choice coming out of the celebration of the motor company’s 105th birthday? Rick Stiles was chosen and to say the least he’s a wee bit excited although I’m not sure he was convinced that at first the call was real. You gotta hear him tell the stor y. It’s a great one. Congrats Rick! Don’t forget the upcoming events. February social scheduled for the 12th. Look for some great food, an entertaining program and above all, time spent with your fellow HOGers. Road Captain Nick has informed me of some 4 wheel rides coming up soon with details being released regarding dates, times and destinations as soon as they are finalized. Keep watching for a H.O.G. Squeal in your electronic in-box. Bike show meetings keep sneaking up on us. We need your thoughts and ideas so if you’re interested, contact bike show chairman Loren Stanley for the meeting dates and times.

The weather is confusing all of us. One day cold and snowy, the next warm but hurricane force winds. One of these days Mother Nature will get it all together and there’ll be a day that tempts us to throw a leg over and settle into the saddle. When you do, please remember these are still winter road conditions. Be aware and be safe.

Department News Servive News

The ser vice department at Black Hills Harley Davidson would like to remind all of our riders that cold weather reduces tire air pressure. Poorly inflated tires create rolling resistance and reduce fuel economy. Under inflation is the leading cause of tire failures/blowouts. With this in mind, we at Black Hills Harley Davidson would like to introduce to you the state of the art Nitrogen tire fill. Why should I fill my motorcycle tires with Nitrogen? Nitrogen helps to maintain proper tire pressure longer in a tire. Air leaks out of a tire 3-4 times faster than nitrogen. Nitrogen reduces catastrophic blow outs; the #1 reason for tire blow outs is under inflated tires. A tire can be as much as 50% under inflated and appear to be normal. Nitrogen improves fuel economy. The average vehicle will see a 4% mile improvement. Nitrogen provides optimum tire wear and is a dry inert gas thus preventing oxidation of rubber rims and valve stems. NASCAR RACES ONLY ON NITROGEN! We at BHHD Ser vice Department are offering a FREE FILL of your bike tires for the week of February 24 – 28, 2009. Just bring your bike out or call for more details. Charlie Edmonds, Service Manager

DOUG SMITH is back to his passion of being a mechanic. He wanted to extend his thanks and appreciation; plus make everyone aware that he is still with the Service Department sharing all of his knowledge and expertise, but now in the capacity of technician. He attended Harley Davidson University to re-certify his PHD technician level in December 2008. With his past experience as mechanic from 1974-1976 as Bultaco mechanic, 1976-1994 Harley Davidson mechanic and 1994-2008 Harley Davidson management; he certainly has a wealth of knowledge to share. Doug hopes everyone will come back and say “hi”. (Bring doughnuts)

Parts News

As I sit here writing this article, it’s snowing, it’s about 0 degrees, and I’m really aching to get my bike out! On the other hand, it is nice to finally breathe a little easier after getting settled in to the New Year.

This month’s Words of Fuzzy Wisdom: If it ain’t chocolate, it ain’t dessert! Ride safe, live long. Murph & the Parts Crew

We in the Parts Department have been doing a little house cleaning and re-arranging. Moving things around so they make more ‘shop-sense’, and with a little luck, making our corner more appealing. We’ll let you be the judge, come on in and check out the ‘new look’, grab a cup of coffee or cider, and we’ll get out the high-water boots! The Harley Den
