SoDak State H.O.G. Rallies, Inc. d.b.a. South Dakota State H.O.G. Rally

Watertown, SD - June 11-13, 2009 Rally Coordinator - Jim Wollan | Site Coordinator - Art Barse Registration Coordinator - Jenna Kannas | Events Coordinator - Doug Ries Secretar y - John Rohlf | Treasurer - Mike McGrath | Volunteer Coordinator - Chris Owen

The 2009 South Dakota State H.O.G. Rally is fast approaching. Make sure you have the dates, June 11-13, blocked out. We are working on exciting possibilities for this year’s Rally; things you may not have seen before at a State Rally. We plan to make it a Rally that you won’t forget! We realize that these are tough economic times for many. We are working hard to make this year’s Rally experience a great value. You’ll note right from the registration process that we have created registration options. So, if you choose, you can keep your costs lower than they have been before. And, talk about a deal! Be sure to take advantage of the ver y special guided day-ride to Historic Fort Sisseton and the area north of Watertown. Riding doesn’t get much better anywhere! Free entr y into the Fort and free food will all be included on this ride. Wow! Register early to get in on this one! You will also have a chance at special prizes just for pre-registering. In fact, the earlier you pre-register, the more chances to win! And, if you volunteer to work you’ll be eligible to win a special prize just for the volunteers. The more times you volunteer, the more chances to win! Of course, there will be numerous ride options, both guided and self-guided routes. Choose the direction, time, and distance that you want to go and then pick the ride that fits. But, if you want to get them all in, you’ll have to come back another time.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO INCLUDE: THURSDAY - early bird registration, self-guided rides, scavenger hunt FRIDAY - the feature guided ride to Fort Sisseton, evening Dealer party, games FRIDAY AND SATURDAY - guided and self-guided rides, poker run, scavenger hunts SATURDAY - Redlin Center reception, parade, banquet, entertainment, bike blessing

And above all, from start to finish, is socializing with good friends, some you’ve met and some you have yet to meet. Don’t be left out! The Rally Web site is active and will be updated regularly. If you haven’t visited it yet, check it out at www.sdstatehogrally.com. Registration will be opening very soon!

Director’s Corner

in, from time to time, to help out in big or small ways.

So whose chapter is it anyway? Technically speaking, “the decision to sponsor a chapter shall be under taken solely at the sponsoring dealer’s discretion”. For tunately, Black Hills Harley-Davidson has made that decision, and continues to suppor t the Black Hills Chapter of H.O.G. While this is ver y necessar y, the ongoing success of the chapter remains in the hands of its members. Created with the purpose, consistent with our H.O.G. charter, of “promoting responsible motorcycling activities for H.O.G. members by conducting chapter activities and encouraging par ticipation in other H.O.G. events”, our chapter can be evaluated as nothing other than a huge success. But you’ve probably guessed where I’m going with this. It would be unwise to rest on our histor y as the barometer for future success. If our chapter’s best days are ahead of us, and I believe they are, as chapter members we must do what we can, when we can, to ensure our chapter remains healthy and strong for years to come. And since this is a volunteer organization, it takes volunteers to brainstorm, plan, organize, manage, work and enjoy chapter activities. Most likely, not one of us can suppor t all facets of our chapter at all times, but I’m guessing we can all pitch

Since ours is a chapter for its members, I encourage you to take ownership, look for ways to help out, encourage a new member, re-engage a senior member, help out with an event, become a ride leader, consider joining the ranks of the board, but above all, have fun when you are around fellow H.O.G.er’s at chapter, state or national H.O.G. events. Our chapter’s success depends on you! Wow! Was that a great social or what? Lt. Col. Ror y Adams and SMSGT Jim Russell representing Dakota Thunder, Ellswor th Air Force Base’s mo-

“So whose chapter is it anyway?” torcycle riding group, spoke about their chapter, its histor y, purpose and some of their activities. I found it interesting that their mission closely mirrors the H.O.G. motto of riding safe and having fun. No doubt they encountered an obstacle or two in the formation of their chapter, but with a bit of persistence, and an unrelenting passion for the motorcycle, they persevered and have grown into a large group of motorcycle enthusiasts who enjoy riding safe and having fun. As Lt. Col. Adams shared his thoughts of a per fect day, riding his ‘02 Deuce to work, flying a jet all day, then riding his Deuce home at the end of day, I’m sure we all couldn’t agree more. If you missed the March social you missed some great videos as well.

A special thanks to Wayne and Arlis Lewis for hosting their annual chili feed…for the 20th time! 20 Years? Are you kidding me? And check out the photo of those who attended that first chili feed that would soon morph into a much anticipated annual event. Thanks Wayne and Arlis! So what’s happening around the chapter. The last 4-wheel dinner ride comes to us on April 23rd where we’ll be meeting at the Fireside Inn for a great meal and time together. After that we’ll begin our Thursday night dinner rides on May 7th. And remember, we ride… rain or shine. We don’t cancel Thursday night rides! Until we meet again, ride safe, have fun and keep the shiny side up! Matt

Parts News

Here’s hoping that our Spring blizzard has already happened! I can almost feel that warm wind rushing by. Starting off the month, will be the Annual Bike Show on the 3rd, 4th, & 5th. This has become a fine tradition with the Harley Owners’ Group, and should be spectacular. We have some great times

coming up with our Spring Open House, too. You probably already know that our annual events are definitely mustgo deals! Along with all the other fun things happening the weekend of the 17th & 18th, the Parts Department has cooked up a whale of a sale. Up to 50% off on selected, on-hand items!

It’ll be reminiscent of the sale we had at Christmas time, for those of you who may remember that one. Anyway, we hope you’ll save some time out of your busy Open House weekend to come on back and check out everything we have to offer.

This month’s words of fuzzy wisdom: Why don’t we do it in the road? Ride safe and often, Murph and the Parts Crew
