IAN

HENDERSON Ian Henderson has been a stalwart of Rochdale AFC since first joining the club in 2013. The 38-year-old is Rochdale's all-time leading goalscorer and well on his way to equalling Reg Jenkins' historic appearance record too! He's been in, he's been out, but he's back again to help Rochdale return to the football league. Style caught up with the centre-forward to discuss two decades on the field... Henderson during his first home match for the club

Who/what first inspired your football career? Tommy, my older brother, has been a constant source of inspiration for me. Even though he is no longer with us, his influence continues to drive me forward. Since Rochdale’s unfortunate relegation to the National League, how do you feel the team has done so far and what hopes do you have for the rest of the season? This season has been marked by stages of success for the team. We collectively recognise that both the team and the squad are still a work in progress, but we're confident that we will continue to improve as the season unfolds. Our mindset and attitude revolve around a commitment to constant development, both on and off the pitch. If we maintain this focus and bring consistency to our performances, we believe we'll be in a strong position by the end of the season. You returned to Rochdale after a few difficult years for the club during and post lockdown - what is it about Rochdale that keeps you coming back? Since the day I first joined Rochdale, I've experienced a genuine sense of acceptance and support from the fans, my fellow players, and the entire staff, and this is a significant reason why I chose to come back.
