Our readers are the reason behind why we publish our issues each month, and our loyal advertisers are the foundation for these issues, without whom we would not be able to keep producing such a fantastic magazine. By partnering with our advertisers, we have been able to take the marketing and branding of luxury products and services to the next level. Our media-savvy audience is constantly discovering new brands that they come to know and love through our print and digital advertisements, which has always been the mission of our magazine. Although we now live in a highly digital world, print is back by popular demand, and luxury brands need print media as a channel for advertisement. Advertisers are always incorporating innovative ideas into our magazine space, and we encourage your business to partner with us to maximize your audience through advertisement.
DEAR READERS, Looking back on our mild winter, I find it amazing that snowstorms have become a major impact on the everyday lives of people living in other parts of this great country. It seems unreal to imagine being stuck in the ice, unable to get to work or go shopping just because our vehicles are buried under piles of snow. We should never forget to be thankful for the year-round paradise that we live in. Really, who wants to go out unrecognizable in layers and layers of clothing with freezing temperatures? Consider that the next time you complain about the weather… I know I will! Hopefully now our friends up north will be able to relax as the spring season takes its course. March, the month of renewal and beauty, is finally here, and with this fresh new season comes a brand new issue of Tampa Style Magazine. Be sure to check out our feature on the most stylish swimwear trends of 2015. We present you with fashions from the modern brand, Jets, an Australian highflier manufacturer with Jessika Allen as the lead designer. Famous for sleek, wearable swim collections, this label has a serious knack for sexy bikinis and flattering one-pieces.
To our loyal readers, we love to hear what you have to say! Keep your comments coming and tell us what you think about this new issue of Tampa Style. If you haven’t already, “Like” us on Facebook for the latest news on events, and if you enjoy one of our great articles or stories, share them on Twitter. Finally, I would like to send a big, heartfelt thank you to my staff for all their hard work.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT Style Events, News & Gossip From Around the City By Katerina Maurtua On February 3rd, Keith Lockhart conducted the Boston Pops at the Amalie Arena. If there was one thing that captured the romance and beauty of February it was attending the Boston Pops orchestra with your loved one. As Lockhart conducted compositions from Dvorak, Copland, Queen and even John Williams, the night was nothing but amorous and moving.
As romance fills our hearts this February, so it brightens
the Tampa Bay area. With Valentine’s Day as the main event, Tampa is packed with a non-stop line of events covering from broadway musicals, a variety of concerts, art exhibitions, cocktail receptions, and even a symphony ballet. So in case you missed it, we at Tampa Style can fill you in with a few of last month’s past events!

CITY NEWS
On the 6th and 7th, theatre and musical enthusiasts enjoyed the classic Broadway musical, Chicago, at Ruth Eckerd Hall. The doors opened at 6:00 PM and the show included an exquisite dinner prior to the musical for those who reserved seating. Chicago is one of the most legendary, passionate and intense crime musicals on Broadway and it was clearly depicted in the cast’s electrifying performance. Chef Fabrizio Aielli rang up February 8th with a cocktail party for the opening of Sea Salt St. Pete. Guests had the honor of hearing all about Chef Fabrizio’s unique cooking philosophies and took part in a luxurious dining experience. The intimacy and luxuries Sea Salt had to offer left us wanting for more. From the 20-foot wine tower, the 80foot long long raw bar, the mouthwatering cocktails and simplistically enticing hors d’oeuvres, Sea Salt was by far a restaurant you wish you hadn’t missed last month. Sea Salt has been awarded the “best new restaurant” award from Esquire and “Best Overall Restaurant” award from Gulf Shore Life and certainly are well deserved! This year, a modern twist to Annie was seen on the big screen, alas, it will never be as enchanting and lovable as everyone’s favorite red-head. From the 17 to the 22 of February, The Straz center of Performing Arts gave a nostalgic and heart-throbbing performance of the original musical we all adore. On February 22 The Dali Museum’s “Picasso / Dali, Dali / Picasso” exhibition finally came to a close in St. Petersburg. Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso are two of the most influential artists who changed the way we
interpret art. Seeing the works of art of the two artist side by side was simply astonishing. There’s no comparison to these two artist and without a doubt can the greatness and rivalry be found in each of their pieces of art. With over 80 works, ranging from paintings and drawings to illustrations and sculptures, the exhibition was nothing if not surreal. If you didn’t catch the finale of the “Picasso / Dali, Dali / Picasso” exhibition, maybe you were busy as The House of Gam hosted their first ever fashion show for Spring/Summer 2015. An up and coming fashion blog and style house in Tampa, The House of Gam, along with local boutiques, restaurants, and artists came together to collaborate on this amazing night. Showing locals and visitors alike what the Tampa Bay area really has to offer, the night was filled with music, lights, style and a clothing drive, ending as a big success. If you are looking for a combination of trendy, local, and chic be sure to check out their upcoming events. The Tampa Lowry Park Zoo opened its doors on the 28th of this month to Zoominations, one of the largest and mystifying Chinese lantern festivals ever to be held in the US. For one night, you could travel to China and experience beautiful structures, lighting, Chinese acrobats and a market filled with handmade crafts all at the Lowry Park Zoo. If you missed it be sure to stop by as the festival will continue until May 31. The month ended with a classic and tragic love story, Swan Lake. The Russian National Ballet took our breath away with such a profound and passionate performance. Prior to the show, on the 28th, guests enjoyed a delicious dinner buffet with delectable hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and a main course meal. It was a ballet unlike any other and captured the epitome of romanticism. Swan Lake, filled with grace, elegance, and empathy gave the performance of a lifetime and was the perfect way to end the most romantic month of the year. Know of a Not-To-Be Missed Event? Do Tell!

A WEE BIT O’ IRISH
AVOID THE PINCH, FROM SUBTLE ACCENTS TO BOLD PATTERNS By Alexis Minieri
As the superstition goes,
those who don’t wear green on St. Patrick’s Day will be punished with a playful, unlucky pinch. Green may not be your favorite palette to work with but rather than wasting the day in hiding, desperately avoiding the grip of such cruel fashion critics, try these trendy style tips!
EFFORTLESS GREEN The common mistake every year is that too many women limit themselves to the standard, fluorescent shade of green. Don’t neglect all the other variations that are begging to be recognized. There are plenty of green tones that are stylish and don’t give off the vibe that you’d been planning your St. Patty’s Day look for weeks, (even if you did). A Forest-green tank or army pants have a hip, faded shade to add grunge to your look. Mint green in the form of a silk top or maxi dress is the perfect subtle approach to creating the light, spring look you’re searching for. However, be wary when wearing turquoise; although it is in the seafoam family, it is often misconceived as blue. Some ignorant friend of yours might not be so forgiving on St. Patty’s Day. PATTERN FRENZY If the amount of green in your wardrobe is scarce, use those patterned pieces that you love so much to achieve the desired green look. Using a flower and leaf patterned top is a subtle way to have that clover-charm without straying too far out of your comfort zone. Dare to be bold with geometric patterns, or add green accessories to make the green in your multicolored dress stand out. SOMETHING GREEN The best excuse for wearing a Fendi bag or green druzy necklace - make your clothes effortless and neutral, then bring out the glam by accessorizing. The opportunities are endless with this option because you need not worry about whether or not a necklace is flattering or if those Jeffrey Campbell heels make you look like a leprechaun. How about green mirror lens sunglasses, or a silk scarf ? Have fun with this; it’s where the exciting shades of green are best used and most flattering! TAKE IT FROM DAY TO NIGHT “More is more and less is a bore.” Wise words of style icon Iris Apfel. You’ll be sure to avoid being pinched when wearing your own variation of a statement green dress. if you’re not afraid to take a risk with your St. Patricks day look, go all out with a green peplum bodycon dress that accentuates your shape or try a high impact chiffon maxi dress. pair it with a nude heel and gold accessories, and your look is complete. What’s the perk? This choice will allow for an easy daytime to nighttime transition, while also making you stand out when around your friends who aren’t quite as quick to be bold. St. Patrick’s Day is the holiday where fashion risks can be taken. With these tips, and a little bit of luck, you’ll be the talk of St. Patty’s day!

FOR YOUR SHAPE Packing for that weekend getaway or heading to the beach for a day? Before you toss your trusty bikini in your weekender and make a b-line for the coast, think about what looks best on your shape. Whether you’re rocking a haltered bikini or you’re strutting down the coast in a one piece with a plunging neckline, looking sexy is all about dressing to enhance your body.
Drop it like a squat.
Lunge it Out.
Chair Squats Chair squats are a simple, effective way to get your thighs, glutes, and abs looking and feeling stronger. Simply stand in front of a chair, feet slightly wider than hip-width apart, and bend your knees as if to sit down. Stop before your bottom touches the chair, hold for a breath, and then stand back up. Remember to keep your weight in your heels and knees above or behind your toes.
Skater Lunge No need to break out those dusty rollerblades for this exercise. Simply cross your right leg behind your left leg, bending your left knee into a half-squat position and extending your left arm out to the side with right arm across your hips. Now leap to the right and bring your left leg behind you, only tapping your toe to the ground. Immediately jump back the other direction and continue alternating for 60 seconds.
Power Squats Get your cardio and strength training in one with power squats, the ultimate butt toner. Start in a standing position with legs a little wider than shoulder-width apart. Squat as if doing the chair squat, but instead of holding for a breath, jump up through the balls of your feet and extend your arms and legs fully. Land softly and sink back into the squat position with knees bent. Try to do as many reps within 60 seconds.
Cross Over Lunge Similar to the skater lunge, but with a deeper and wider range of motion, the cross over lunge will get your legs burning. Standing, step out and cross your lead foot in front of your back foot, almost like a curtsy. Pause in the lunge and then push yourself back to starting position. Make sure your knee stays behind your toes to avoid injury. Repeat with alternating legs for 20 reps.
Tip Toe Squats The tip toe squat is an efficient move as it works your glutes, calves, quads, and inner thighs in one motion. Begin by standing with feet wider than hip-width apart and toes turned out to the sides. Keep your hands on your hips as you raise up onto your toes. Squat down until your thighs are parallel to the floor. Remember to always keep your chest and shoulders back. To finish the rep, pop yourself into the starting position.
Reverse Lunge with Front Kick If you’ve ever thought about taking a kickboxing class, you’ll enjoy this highintensity move that works your glutes, quads, and hamstrings. Standing with abs tight, step your right foot back and lower into a reverse lunge. After shifting your weight into the left foot, push off your right foot and kick it up in front of you. Repeat on the other side, trying to raise your leg as high as possible while staying in balance. As always, talk with your doctor before starting any new exercise or diet regimen. 47 STYLETOME.COM
HOURGLASS For those beautifully curved women, choosing bikinis with a bold print and frills plays up the hourglass shape. Plus, picking vintage styles – high waist bottoms and halter tops – is the best way to show off a daring style and body. LOLLIPOP Blessed with a little extra in the breast department, women with an inverted triangle shape can show off their assets by wearing tops with cup sizes and underwire for support. A one-piece with printed panels down the side deemphasizes broad shoulders and creates an artful hourglass frame. ATHLETIC Women who spend all day at the gym should opt for ring-top bandeaus with cups or padding to enhance their compact frame. Adding ruffles and other embellishments on the hips gives the illusion of a curvier shape, while bright colors pull all eyes toward their hard earned bodies. CIRCLE Carrying most of their weight in the top half, apple shaped women should grab swimsuits with an X pattern, graphic cut, or ruching over the middle to slim and draw the eye up. To show off those long legs, try a high-cut patterned bottom. Or, take the office to the beach by wearing a peplum swimsuit. COLUMN With long torsos and perfect proportions, tall women can wear skimpy bottoms with side-tie details to show a little cheek while still adding curves. Bandeaus were made for these women, especially ones with ruffles and bows for a look that’s ultra-feminine. TRIANGLE Bigger on the bottom than the top, pear shaped women can get away with wearing a plunging neckline to draw the eye up. Tiny prints on top and solid colored bottoms keep everything in proportion, especially if the bottoms are high cut to accent a small waist. SNACKS
FOR FLAT By Maria Delis
sticking to a nutritious diet and avoiding junk a bit challenging. Don’t fret! The following snacks may help you stay faithful to your diet and help flatten your belly:
According to the “Journal of
the American Medical Association,” women who have a waistline greater than 35 inches may store more visceral fat around their internal organs. Men with a waistline greater than 40 inches may face the same health issue. Visceral fat is scary because it is “hidden fat” that negatively affects your liver function. This can lead to developing diabetes, certain cancers, and heart disease. “Wait,” you’re probably thinking, “If it’s hidden, how do I know if I’m really storing excess amounts of this fat? Should I only look at my waistline?” You could ask for a CT scan, but your waistline is a good predictor. The bigger the waistline, the more fat you’re probably storing around your organs. But even if you’re on the slender side and you’re inactive, that cute pot belly may indicate excess visceral fat.
RAW ALMONDS Almonds are rich in antioxidants, protein, and fiber. Filling and nutritious, almonds help shed those extra pounds and flatten the tummy. Studies show that consuming high-protein foods, like almonds, throughout the day, can decrease both Total Body Fat and Abdominal Fat. Therefore, instead of munching on cookies or potato chips, choose a handful of almonds. Keep in mind that almonds are not a low-calorie food. There are 164 calories and 6.03 grams of protein in one ounce (approximately 23 raw almonds).
Following a nutritious diet and exercising regularly (30-60 minutes daily), can have positive results on the waistline and overall health. This means avoiding junk food, high-fat meals, and Netflix marathons on the couch. The key to a healthy lifestyle is common sense. If the majority of your calories come from highly processed, sugary foods, you may want to reevaluate your nutrition plan.
NONFAT PLAIN YOGURT According to a study published in the “International Journal of Obesity,” substituting yogurt for other foods increases weight loss. In the study, “trunk fat loss was augmented by 81% on the yogurt versus control diet.” Aside from being a better snack than salted pretzels, it can get rid of that bloat too. Probiotics, found in yogurt, balance intestinal flora and decrease the incidence of gas and constipation.
The bottom line: Beauty may lie in the eyes of the beholder, but trimming your waistline through wholesome nutrition and regular exercise, has benefits that transcend aesthetics. You may find, however,

Hence, no bloat! Choose unsweetened, nonfat yogurt that contains live and active cultures. BLUEBERRIES According to a University of Michigan animal study, rats that consumed a diet rich in blueberries, lost abdominal fat and lowered their risk for cardiovascular disease. The blueberry diet lowered cholesterol and improved glucose control! “We found by looking at fat muscle tissue, that blueberry intake affected genes related to fat-burning and storage. Looking at muscle tissue, we saw altered genes related to glucose intakes,” said E. Mitchell Seymour, M.S., lead researcher and manager of the University of Michigan Cardioprotection Research Laboratory. Numerous studies show that adding more fruits and veggies to our diets can have positive effects on our overall health, but the U-M study shows how the naturally
occurring chemicals (e.g., anthocyanins) found in blueberries may play a significant role in maintaining optimal health. OATMEAL
snack! Choose a cup of diced watermelon (about 46 calories) instead of ice cream the next time you’re lounging by the pool. If you substitute this fruit for high-calorie snacks, it will help you maintain a flat tummy.
Oats belong to the grass family and contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. This is why eating fiber-rich oats helps you achieve a flat stomach and lowers your cholesterol.
In a 2011 University of Kentucky study, mice with diet-induced cholesterol drank watermelon juice for eight weeks. The study found that watermelon consumption reduced atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and lowered body weight.
According to a study published in “Obesity a Research Journal,” adding soluble fiber to a diet improves abdominal fat reduction. Although oatmeal is typically seen as a breakfast food, why not enjoy it as an afternoon snack? Choose the unsweetened and natural kinds. You can add your own strawberries or blueberries. WATERMELON High in vitamin C and lycopene, watermelons may help prevent certain cancers and premature skin aging. Plus, watermelons are a refreshing low-calorie

As always, chat with your physician and dietitian in order to choose the right diet and exercise plan. And remember, you don’t have to have a supermodel’s physique to look and feel your best; but maintaining a flat belly keeps you further away from disease.

Hottest Male Celebs Over 50 Is it just me or do these stars keep getting better with age?! By Riesa Pascal
For some of us, age ain’t nothing but a number. For everyone else, there’s hair dye, injections, implants and everything else the world of beauty offers us to make us feel younger for longer. If you’ve reached the point where birthdays have become a dreaded reminder that you’re another year closer to waking up with one too many wrinkles, consider taking a page or two from the following celebs and just let nature run its course naturally. Of course growing old gracefully can be a tricky process and especially in Hollywood, but it helps when you’re over 50 and still look as smoking hot as these men.
52 STYLETOME.COM
CELEBRITY SOUP
Brad Pitt, 51
In The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Brad Pitt plays a man who ages in reverse. Although it’s supposed to be a science fiction story, it’s a pretty amazing coincidence that they cast an actor who seems to have stopped aging altogether! If it wasn’t for the grays that Pitt has let creep into his beard, it would be hard to believe he’s turning 52 this year. Fortunately for Pitt and wife Angelina Jolie, he’s one celeb who confidently rocks his new look and proves to the world that gray hair doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
John Stamos, 51
If you were around in the 90s, then you probably had a crush on Full House’s Uncle Jesse because let’s face it...how could you not? From his thick, dark locks to that dazzling smile, Stamos could make women of all ages swoon and that he did! It would make perfect sense if this former teen heartthrob had aged into an equally attractive older man, but instead Stamos has steadily become even more gorgeous with each passing year. In the immortal words of Uncle Jesse, HAVE MERCY! Let’s all hope we also look that good at 50 years old.
Will Smith,
46
Okay, okay...I know Will Smith is technically still a few years shy of being 50, but c’mon! At the rate that man is aging, I can only assume how great he’s going to look on the other side of the hill. Do I need to remind you of the workout scene in I Am Legend? This fresh prince could easily still pass for his 30s and as far as his acting goes, it doesn’t look like retirement plans are anywhere in the near future. On February 27th, Smith’s latest film Focus was released in theaters. Though I have yet to see the flick, if trailers are any indication of what to expect, I’m sure it’ll be full of solid acting, impeccable comedic timing and plenty moments for us to be jealous of female lead, Margot Robbie.

Pierce Brosnan,
61
To fill the shoes of James Bond, you must be a lot of things: Supremely confident, overwhelmingly charming, ridiculously attractive, a smooth dresser, an even smoother talker and did I mention ridiculously attractive? 20 years ago Pierce Brosnan proved he had all those qualities and more when he starred as the beloved British spy in 1995’s GoldenEye. For the next seven years Brosnan reprised his role as Bond for three more installments of the popular 007 franchise. More than a decade later, Brosnan is now the respectable age of 61 and still just as strong, confident, romantic and darned good looking. “I feel comfortable in my own skin,” Brosnan said during an interview with TODAY’s Matt Lauer. Easy to say when you age as gracefully as this silver fox!
George Clooney,
53
When people use your own name as a term to describe someone who’s growing old gracefully, you know you’re doing something right. There’s a reason why aging “Clooney-style” is unanimously known to be a compliment. In a poll of 1,000 people who were asked which men over 40 had embraced aging the best, Clooney earned top marks for not dyeing his hair and for looking happy in his skin. The votes resulted in the actor being named the world’s top MAG, or Man Aging Gracefully. It’s worth noting that Brad Pitt and Will Smith also placed in the Top 10 of the MAG poll, but this Hollywood hunk’s natural charm and grace earned him the number one spot.
Lenny Kravitz
50
He’s captivated us with his music for 25 years and most recently, he’s stolen our hearts as Cinna in the Hunger Games movie franchise. It might be the bad-boy, rock star persona or maybe it’s that mischievous smile, but something about this 50 year old is undeniably hot. Just look up the cover art for Kravitz’s latest album, Strut. Have you ever seen a 50 year old with such rock hard abs?! Something tells me Kravitz has finally found the legendary fountain of youth and I wonder if he’ll let us in on the secret. If not, at least we get to stare at him and enjoy the water’s fabulous results.

Madonna The Queen of Pop Continues to Reign with Rebel Heart By Courtney Caggiano
She is perhaps the most iconic female pop singer of all time—from her show stopping performances to her evolutionary style—but Madonna embodies more than just the quintessential pop superstar; she personifies cultural sovereignty in the entertainment world, and has been deservedly dubbed the Queen of Pop. Today, the Queen continues to reign with her latest studio album, Rebel Heart. Born to a Catholic family in Bay City, Michigan, Madonna Louise Ciccone found her calling at a very young age, although childhood challenges made this calling difficult to follow at times. After losing her mother to cancer, Madonna’s loneliness encouraged her to search for something that could give her life purpose. A young Madonna desired to become someone to be remembered, and she decided that the art of music and dance was the platform to lead her to this destiny. Upon her graduation from Rochester Adams High School, the straight-A student-turnedsinger attended University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, where she studied ballet. This college career did not last long, however, it did give her the motivation to move to New York City to pursue a lifestyle of dance and music. Madonna performed with modern dance troupes throughout the city, and soon after, formed pop-rock bands. This bravery of taking chances—along with the attention of DJs and record producers— paid off, transforming a young Midwestern dreamer into an international music icon. With the 1984 release of her second studio album, Like a Virgin, Madonna achieved global success, and her title single topped the
charts in various countries, even climbing the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for six consecutive weeks, taking the album to number one. She popularized MTV with her music video airplay, especially when she appeared at the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards in a wedding dress, performing “Like a Virgin.” Although the ambiguous song brought controversy from radio stations, it was clear that Madonna was setting more than musical standards; she was changing culture one song at a time. Madonna’s powerful social influence has been a continuous result of her career’s constant evolution, including her progressive, groundbreaking fashion. In the 1980s, women emulated Madonna’s rebellious feminine style with black lace, fishnet stockings, and crucifix jewelry; however, her evolution was not just an aesthetical development. Madonna took her musical personality through effortless changes over the decades, even taking on younger audiences with her later records, such as her 2008 duet with Justin Timberlake, “4 Minutes.” Throughout her career, Madonna evolved in such a way that she eventually did everything that could possibly be done in the music industry. From reinventing herself over the years to pushing the boundaries of popular music, she went where no pop star before had ever gone. She not only wrote the map on uncharted territory in the entertainment world; she discovered all the territory that was to be found and claimed it as her own. Today, in order for pop singers to create an identity of originality, they must go beyond the standard that Madonna has set. Madonna is the reason behind the bold—
56 STYLETOME.COM
and often perplexing—personas of this generation’s music icons. Because Madonna has taken her raw talent and image to the highest level, artists today have to take their careers beyond this level. This can be seen all over the musical spectrum, such as the avantgarde antics of Lady Gaga. On her latest album, Rebel Heart, Madonna continues to show her fans and critics alike that even though it may appear that she has done it all, she is nowhere near stopping. The singer has taken a more reflective view of life in this album, with songs that hint at a mix of two themes: following one’s heart and being a rebel to one’s surroundings. While Madonna wanted to create tracks that expressed her rebellious side, she also wanted to explore her romantic sensibilities, and the album reveals these two coexisting facets of her character. Musically, this album is much more melodically driven, unlike her previous albums that were framed around rhythm and instrumentation. Madonna claims that she desired her songs to have the ability to stand alone, so they could be performed with only vocals and a guitar while still retaining their integrity. Rebel Heart also highlights Madonna’s international flair, as her lyrical inspirations were derived from the art, literature, and music of foreign cultures. Now, set to release her thirteenth studio album, Madonna has defined herself as an artistic authority, from influencing fashion fads in the 1980s to catalyzing music trends in the present. It can be expected that this pop legend who has been conquering the world for three decades will continue to take American music to places it has never gone before.

DOMINATOR ALL NEW FORD GT
Ford recently unveiled the all-new GT, an ultra-highperformance supercar that serves as a technology showcase for top EcoBoost® performance, aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fiber construction.
The GT is one of more than 12 new Ford Performance vehicles coming by 2020. It joins Focus RS, F-150 Raptor, Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT350R in the growing Ford Performance lineup. Beginning production late next year, the GT hits the road in select global markets to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ford GT race cars placing 1-2-3 at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. “As we at Ford drive innovation into every part of our business, it’s worth remembering that our first innovation as a company was not in a laboratory, but on the racetrack,” said Mark Fields, Ford president and chief executive officer, referring to Henry Ford’s win of a 1901 car race that inspired financial backers to invest in his company. “We are passionate about innovation through performance and creating vehicles that make people’s hearts pound.” The all-new GT supercar features rear-wheel drive, a mid-mounted engine, and a sleek, aerodynamic, two-door coupe body shell. It is propelled by the most powerful EcoBoost production engine ever – a next-generation twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 producing more than 600 horsepower. The GT makes extensive use of lightweight materials, including carbon fiber and aluminum – enabling outstanding acceleration and handling with improved efficiency. Ford’s commitment to and capability in delivering technologies typically offered only in elite vehicles is evident in the GT. These include advanced active aerodynamics, such as a deployable rear spoiler, and a host of material and technology innovations to help better serve the driver, such as SYNC® 3 – the latest version of Ford’s advanced connectivity system. “The GT is the ultimate execution of an enthusiast supercar,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “GT includes innovations and technologies that can be applied broadly across Ford’s future product portfolio – another proof point that Ford continues raising the performance bar while ultimately improving vehicles for all of our customers.”

Gasparilla Inn Food & Wine Festival Weekend A Beloved Tradition on an Island Untouched By Time By Riesa Pascal For over 100 years,
The Gasparilla Inn & Club has been welcoming guests to come and experience Florida as it was meant to be: Untouched by time and surrounded by the pristine beauty that comes with being located in the heart of Gasparilla Island. Established in 1913, a large part of The Inn’s charm lies in its simplicity and stand against modern renovations. Nine years ago The Gasparilla Inn began a brand new tradition that quickly snowballed into Boca Grande’s most anticipated culinary event of the season—The Gasparilla Food and Wine Festival Weekend. From January 9th-11th, I had the unexpected, incomparable pleasure of experiencing this quaint city and The Inn’s beloved new tradition for myself.

The resort itself is just phenomenal in the most humbling way possible. It stands regal and proud on the property, yet maintains so many of The Inn’s original features. Upon entering the pillared entrance, guests are instantly embraced by the wonderful staff with a genuine kindness reminiscent of a long forgotten time that is still a part of this classic resort. As you take a look around the lobby and make your way to your guestroom, you begin to experience the feeling of old Florida charm as it was meant to be. From guestroom doors that open with an old-fashioned lock and key to authentic antique furniture, The Inn was truly a step into the past. The weekend I showed up for the Food and Wine Festival was undoubtedly a busy one for The Gasparilla Inn’s staff, but you’d never know it from the relaxing atmosphere that never ceased to permeate the air. The highly anticipated weekend of activities began on a Friday evening with a welcome reception and dinner featuring Chefs Robert Plesh, Tom Hagerty, David Blackburn and Benjamin Copeland. As samplings of distinguished wines were paired with flavorful food, gourmands and wine enthusiasts alike embarked on an edible “tour” of the world’s most famous culinary regions. Large tables and choose-your-own seating made for perfect mingling opportunities as a solo guitar player peppered the hum of conversations with soft, beautiful music. Seated to my left was two time festival attendee, Anka Eshak, who told me about her positive experience at the previous year’s event which led to her and her husband creating a new annual tradition. “This is absolutely wonderful! It’s only Friday, but we have not been disappointed,” said Anka. “I feel very strongly about how food taste, but I also think the presentation is really important and this has been such a beautiful experience. Everyone should come.” On Saturday, guests of the festival had the chance to attend a variety of culinary events and tastings. Chef John Folse kicked off the morning with a culinary demonstration that went on to become one of my favorite events of the weekend. For a fascinating hour, Chef Folse instructed guests on how to prepare corn and crab cappuccino and the king of all pork roasts, porchetta. You could’ve heard a pin drop as everyone’s attention was firmly placed on Chef Folse who passionately shared the step-by-step details and cooking techniques of himself and other leading chefs in the industry. After a brief lunch, the demonstrations resumed with sustainable caviar tasting by Mote Marine Research Laboratory. Wrapping up the afternoon of tastings was Tablas Creek Vineyard with an exquisitely prepared, eight-part wine tasting. The demonstration explained the extensive research that went into creating the final recipe for the winery’s flagship Rhônestyle blends, Espirit de Tablas red and white. Their impressive and extensive knowledge of the industry made for a presentation that was intriguing, interesting and left you wanting to know more. After the lovely tasting, myself and other guests lined up to speak one on one with representatives from Tablas Creek Vineyard and local distributor, Premier Beverage.

TRAVEL ‘N STYLE
The Inn may be the center of village life on the island, but after filling up on delectable bites and wines, I felt it was finally time to explore Gasparilla Island’s downtown. I should probably add that I’m using the term “downtown” quite loosely as it’s more of a “blink and you’ll miss it town,” but that’s all part of the classic old Florida feel that makes people fall in love with Gasparilla Island over and over again. The downtown area was a small and simple, yet intimate lineup of various boutiques, gift shops and businesses. As fellow first-time attendee, Tom Davenport, told me at the welcome reception, the absence of big city hustle on the island truly makes it the perfect place to host an event such as the Food and Wine Festival. “The lack of activity really allows you to relax and focus on the food and wine,” said Tom. “I think it’s an unusual environment in that regard.” As the sun set in the distance and a sprinkling of brilliantly lit stars splashed across the sky, it was time for the festival’s closing Wine Reception and Master Chef ’s Dinner. After much mingling and laughter in The Inn’s living room, we all made our way to the
Banyan Room next door for a meticulously prepared six course meal featuring Chefs John Johnstone, Robert Plesh, Scott Haegle, Seth Shipley, Jared Van Camp, Pierre Sauvaget and John Folse as well as a variety of wines from Adelsheim Vineyard. The first dish in a long line of delectable plates was black pudding, fried quail egg, brioche and sauce choron presented in honor of the late Chef Peter Timmins, CMC. I didn’t think it would be possible for the chefs to top themselves after starting off that strong, but somehow they continued to do just that with each consecutive dish. From the heavenly cappuccino soup I had just learned how to make hours earlier to a sinful goat cheese cremeux hazelnut sponge cake and everything in-between—The Gasparilla Inn chefs are truly nothing short of remarkable! A well deserved round of applause and standing ovation for them wrapped up the beautiful evening and final event of the weekend. Later that night, I joined fellow festival attendees for an impromptu goodbye drink at the nearby Pink Elephant bar located 64 STYLETOME.COM
within walking distance of The Gasparilla Inn. As we exchanged numbers, laughs and hugs, it became immediately apparent that I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. The Gasparilla Food and Wine Festival Weekend was an amazing event that passed by all too quickly, but the experience will remain with me for a lifetime. My companion and I left for The Gasparilla Inn with the intention of simply experiencing good food and a few fine wines, but we had no idea that what we had actually signed up for was so much more than that. We had signed up for new friendships, hearty laughs and a fleeting moment of tranquility, peace and relaxation in a fast-moving world that long ago forgot how to stop and smell the roses. We had signed up for a trip down memory lane and a beautiful weekend at a luxurious, historic hotel that fervently pursues its mission to show families, couples, friends and groups alike how to enjoy Florida as it was meant to be. SUMMER VACATION THE WELL-DRESSED TRAVELER By Ro Martinez
LOVE YOUR SHOES
Rick Saltarelli, of Salty Breeze Cruise Planners, shared, “The days are long gone when one traveled with multiple suitcases and large steamer trunks. Today’s savvy travelers know that the airlines limit baggage in three ways -- number of pieces, size of luggage, and weight. Travelers should understand the type of weather they will encounter over the length of their trip and pack accordingly. Having layers that you can peel like an onion is always a good idea. I also suggest that it may be
Nothing is more exciting than a vacation or getaway. A
summer vacation, whether a staycation near home or a trip abroad, is a cause for celebration. Warmer temperatures are perfect for lounging by the pool, swimming, or sunning on the beach. Most of us have only one to three weeks vacation a year. A wardrobe that restricts movement or is uncomfortably warm should not spoil those precious days. Follow our advice to select and pack the suitable clothing to enjoy your holiday the moment you arrive.

easier to do laundering part of the way through a trip than it is to pack and transport a second piece of luggage.”
of weather. You may start out wearing a light jacket or sweater sight seeing early in the day, but by lunchtime, you will have to remove the outer layer or cook. You worked hard to create your itinerary — don’t be ill prepared. Looking good is easy when you know what to pack. Bon Voyage!
When packing your summer travel wardrobe, remember the following: DO YOUR RESEARCH — If this is your first time visiting a region, speak to your travel agent or surf the web to find average temperature, rainfall, and weather conditions for time of the year you plan to travel. Planning prior to packing day will allow you to prepare for the climate and help you avoid trip-spoiling situations.

CHOOSE NATURAL FABRICS — Fibers like cotton, linen and silk allow your body to breathe, while synthetic materials may trap perspiration. Thinner fabrics will absorb your perspiration and dry quickly. You will perspire more during the hotter months, so select breathable fabrics that keep you dry and cool.
“Having layers that you can peel like an onion is always a good idea.”
LIGHTWEIGHT SWEATERS OR JACKETS — You may not need a sweater or jacket in the summer sun, but flying, dining or seeing a show in an air-conditioned space will have you reaching for an outer layer. Some destinations can be sweltering in the day, but chilly after sunset. Be prepared. LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING — Nothing is worse than wearing ill-fitting clothing, especially in the heat. Try on everything before you pack to ensure it still fits. Fabrics may shrink, or your waistline may have expanded. Comfort is always important when it comes to wardrobe, but paramount while on vacation. SUN PROTECTION FABRIC — In addition to packing your sunscreen, bring shirts, pants, and dresses with a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) rating of 15 – 50 for wearing while sightseeing or participating in outdoor activities. Sun protection fabric has been treated to block ultraviolet rays. Sun exposure from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., when the sun’s rays are strongest, increases your chances of getting sunburned. EASY CARE —Spending less time arranging for dry cleaning means you will have more time and more money to enjoy on your vacation. Choose clothing made from washable, lightweight fabrics that dry quickly. Give yourself permission to wear the same clothing several times. People are not going to remember what you are wearing, only that you look fashionable and put together. VERSATILE — A sundress worn as a cover up over your swimsuit can quickly become a cocktail dress with the right shoes and accessories. Throwing on a beautiful straw hat, bright jewelry, and metallic sandals turns your flip flop worn sundress into a fashionable evening ensemble appropriate for an upscale pool party. A bikini top can be worn under a sheer top paired with shorts or capris as another date night option. I love summer travel. A patterned bra top, skirt and cropped jacket or tank top and shorts, as worn by our model, are easier to pack than bulky winter clothes. Avoid heavy clothing and fads that may quickly go out-of-style. Instead, look for lightweight summer clothing that can be layered for function and style and removed as needed. With a little planning, you will look fashionable, ready for any occasion and type 67

TO SHAVE OR NOT TO SHAVE Should I Get Laser Hair Removal? By Kourtney Destefano
As it gets warmer in Florida,
the transition from sweaters to bathing suits begins. Unfortunately, the change in weather forces us to address an uncomfortable issue... unwanted body hair. Rather than relentlessly shaving or waxing, many people turn to laser hair removal as a resolution. This popular
cosmetic procedure comes with its share of advantages and disadvantages. What exactly is laser hair removal? Laser hair removal has been commercially available to patients since the mid-1990s and is now, for the most part, widely
68 TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM
accepted in the dermatology community. Basically, during this procedure, hair follicles are destroyed when the pigment molecules within them absorb the energy from the lasers. This prevents the follicles from producing new hair, thus decreasing your need to shave or wax the hair away.
“If you’re looking for hair reduction rather than hair removal, this procedure is a very reasonable option.” Is laser hair removal the solution to your unwanted hair woes? We’ve comprised a list of some of the pros and cons of laser hair removal to help you decide.
1
Depending on the person, laser hair removal can cause pain or minor discomfort. Some patients will avoid laser hair removal due to the pain, while others maintain that the procedure is significantly less painful than other methods like electrolysis.
2
Laser hair removal can be expensive. According to the Hair Removal Journal, the average cost of laser hair removal is about $429 per session. However, the price of each session can vary depending on the area of where the hair is being removed.
3
Normal side effects that occur after treatment includes itching, pink skin, and possibly redness or swelling around the treatment area.

Laser hair removal can also be an effective treatment for ingrown hairs or shaving bumps.
The procedure is not very time consuming and considerably reduces the time and energy it takes to wax or shave unwanted hair, although multiple treatments are generally needed to completely get rid of the hair. Interestingly, darker haired people tend to have more success with the procedure than people with light hair because their hair has more melanin.
6
Laser hair removal has the ability to remove hair from large areas like the back or the legs which gives the procedure an advantage over shaving or waxing. Nonetheless, not everyone is satisfied with their long term results.
7
Safety is another important issue to consider when thinking about laser hair removal. The FDA has only approved laser hair removal for permanent hair reduction, not hair removal. This means that you should expect at least some regrowth of hair. Scarring or blistering is a potential side effect of laser hair removal as well, depending on the specific patient. THE BOTTOM LINE Ultimately, the decision to get laser hair removal is entirely up to the individual and their needs. The procedure gives you longer lasting results when compared to waxing or shaving and is safe if done properly. However, the treatment is not cheap, typically taking multiple attempts and risks unappealing scarring or pain. Our conclusion? If you’re looking for hair reduction rather than hair removal, this procedure is a very reasonable option. Weighing the pros and cons of laser hair removal will help you make a wellinformed choice. Good luck! Consult with your doctor before getting Laser Hair Removal and do your research for a reputable Dr. or clinic.

His legacy remains in his ability to depict a picturesque view of society while also maintaining its truth throughout the ages.
“People are often astonished by the scale and painterly beauty of Norman Rockwell’s art,” said Laurie Norton Moffatt, director/CEO of the Norman Rockwell Museum. “There is nothing like seeing a Norman Rockwell image in its original form. He was a master storyteller and kept his finger on the pulse of American culture for much of the 20th century.” Rockwell’s passion for illustration began at a young age when he started taking classes at The New School of Art in New York City at the age of 14. Rockwell then dropped out of high school and enrolled in Art Students League of New York where he was taught by exceptional artists like Thomas Fogarty and Frank Vincent DuMond. After graduating, he quickly did works for various publications until 1916 when he began illustrating for the Post, for which he would

“I will never have enough time to paint all the pictures I want to.” - Norman Rockwell illustrate some 323 originals, many of which are featured in the exhibit. Rockwell entertained the country with heartwarming, candid images of society, like “After Prom Night,” and “Santa Claus” which illustrates Old Saint Nick with a Coca Cola in hand. In the last 10 years of his career, Rockwell illustrated for Look magazine, where he created works that displayed poverty, space exploration and civil rights activities, as depicted in “The Problem we All Live With,” where a young, African-American girl walks to school accompanied by police officers for protection. Such works are representations of history, and preserve the country’s ever evolving culture. In 1973, Rockwell created a trust that ensured the preservation of his works, which was then acquired by the Norman Rockwell Museum to allow his art to be exhibited and used for the “advancement of
art appreciation and art education.” A year before his death in 1978, Rockwell received the United State’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Jimmy Carter. “The museum is thrilled to showcase exhibitions that continue our mission to tell the story of modern art,” Todd D. Smith said, the executive director of the Tampa Museum of Art. The Tampa Museum of Art opened its awardwinning home in 2010 with a commitment to providing innovative public programs with a strong focus on classical, modern, and contemporary art. The Museum balances a growing collection, including one of the largest Greek and Roman antiquities acquisitions in the southeast, with a dynamic annual schedule of special exhibitions. DEA PAIN PILL CRACKDOWN HARMS THE SICK - BY MARK L. HORWITZ
Law Offices of Mark L. Horwitz, P.A. 17 East Pine St. Orlando, FL 32801 P: 407.843.7733 F: 407.849.1321 mark@mlhorwitzlaw.com www.mlhorwitzlaw.com
The DEA, as well as state officials, have been on a vigorous campaign to stop abuses of prescription pain pills. The effort, while well-meaning, is having a devastating impact on people with legitimate prescriptions and legitimate health issues such as cancer and back injuries. Government efforts have included investigating doctors who prescribe too many pain pills based upon government statistics. Their investigations may identify the small number of doctors who improperly prescribe pain medication. A consequence of such investigations is that some doctors may be hesitant to prescribe strong pain medicine even when such medicine is needed. The government’s pain pill crackdown has also been aimed at pharmacies and pharmacists. Major companies such as CVS and Walgreens have been sued for filling prescriptions in a manner the DEA considers incorrect. CVS agreed to pay the government $11 million to settle a lawsuit involving its stores in Oklahoma and elsewhere. CVS Stores in Central Florida were also targeted by the DEA and prevented from filling prescriptions for Schedule II controlled substances, including pain medicine such as Oxycodone and Percocet. Walgreens paid $80 million as a result of a settlement growing out of a DEA investigation into the record keeping and dispensing of Schedule II drugs including Oxycodone. The DEA’s investigation of Walgreens
involved stores in Florida, Colorado, Michigan, and New York. DEA efforts to stop prescription drug abuse includes not only major drugstore chains like CVS and Walgreens, but other drugstores and individual pharmacists. While many may applaud harsh government efforts, there is a serious adverse impact that affects law abiding citizens that live with serious pain and need prescription pain pills to improve their quality of life. The drugstores and pharmacists are reluctant to fill prescriptions for pain medicine and as a result, many people are suffering because they cannot obtain the pain medicine prescribed by their doctors. WESH 2 News in Orlando ran a story on this highlighting the problem including an interview of a woman who cannot fill her prescription for pain pills which she badly needs. The WESH website also included comments by many others. While stopping the abuse of prescription drugs is a high priority for law enforcement, their efforts must be balanced to reduce the terrible consequences of depriving people of the medicine needed to scope with severe pain.

Whether you enjoy sunning and swimming at the ocean or poolside,
“Guests lounging poolside are less formal, they look for more casual ways to enjoy their vacation,” Sweeney adds.
there’s one thing that’s certain. A cocktail is most definitely a great accessory. While you’re thinking about updating your beach or pool wardrobe and contemplating a
Poolside sipping is all about spending quality time with friends so when you are entertaining at home or packing for the beach, look for delicious portable fun wines you can share like Beso del Sol Sangria. This sangria in a box, is actually the equivalent of four bottles of wine, and is easy to carry and chill. The best part – you can buy it at any grocery store.
new bikini or cover up, strappy sandals or new shades, consider a new cocktail to add to your summer repertoire. We’ve called in some experts who have really terrific advice when it comes to outdoor entertaining this summer.
Finally, if you want to look at the world through rose colored glasses while you are perusing the latest beach read, it might be time to try a new dry Rose from Italy like Chiaretto.
According to Drew Sweeney, Beverage Director, The Dream, Downtown, “Poolside cocktails should be light and incorporate seasonal ingredients such as berries and melons. We like to place some sort of garnish whether it be a fresh sprig of mint or a sliced strawberry to complete the look of the cocktail.” Also keep in mind that safety is first so take stock of your cabinet or summer home before the start of the season. When outdoors, you should always serve refreshments and food in non-breakable glassware.
“CONSIDER A NEW
Sweeney has another trick when making cocktails for a crowd. “It’s always fun to create a non-alcoholic frozen ‘slush’ that you and your guests can add to your favorite cocktail or beer. At Dream Beach we call it a ‘snakebite’ and it is sure to cool you down on even the hottest summer days,” he says.
COCKTAIL TO ADD TO YOUR SUMMER
Just as the saying goes the clothes make the man, where you are sipping a cocktail or wine in the summer has an effect on what you order.
REPERTOIRE.”
Albert Trummer, celebrity mixologist, The Shelburne Wyndham Grand tells us “this means that in some circumstances (say, summertime, at noon) certain drinks are much more likely to be recommended by the person waiting on you at the pool. In this case, you could expect a Watermelon Cooler rather than a Martini.”

GAY TOURISM: Fueling Florida’s Future Economy? By Mark NeJame
Contributor Vanessa Louise Braeley, Associate Attorney with NeJame Law
Take a moment to reflect, fellow Floridians, for a few months ago, history was made:
on January 6, 2015, the sunshine
state became the 36th state to legalize gay marriage. A brief recap of how we got there (it unfolded rather quickly, you may have missed it):

PROTECT YOUR PUPS FROM THE SUN By Alexis Minieri
As summer creeps up closer, so does that mysterious question that is lingering in the minds of all dogsters and outdoor-goers…can dogs get sunburned? No need to type it into Google Search, all you need to know is right here. The answer is yes, they can! Strange, I know, but in reality, it makes a whole lot of sense. Much like for humans, animal skin is affected by the sun’s ferocious ultraviolet rays, and is prone to receiving various degrees of burning and sun-induced tumors when exposed to too much sunlight. But don’t fret, there is no reason to go through extreme measures and hide the pups indoors, there are plenty of ways to prevent this unfortunate sensation from happening.
Now that the cat is out of the bag about canine sunburns, there are important facts to know about what sunscreens work best, the proper application process and ways to treat existing sunburns. Here’s some tips on how to avoid a CATastrophic sunburn for your canine.
the groin and between the backs of the legs. Another factor to keep in mind is the length of their fur. For dogs with short or fine hair, make sure to apply sunscreen all over. For the best results, routinely apply block every 4 to 6 hours as well as before and after your dog ventures into the water.
Throw away all previous doubts, because all dogs are susceptible to UV ray injuries. However, the ones most at risk are those that are shaved or those with pale or light noses. This season when you’re outdoors with your pets, keep in mind when dogs are meandering around the beach for extended periods, or napping beneath the radiant sun, the area most susceptible to sunburn or tumors is the inguinal area or the skin located near
The wisest choice when choosing a sunscreen for your pup is finding one without zinc oxide; a mineral used in creams to help prevent and treat minor skin burns. Although this mineral is harmless to pets when applied to the skin, it is toxic when ingested. Why would this matter? Because dogs are curious creatures that use their tongue to distinguish things, especially foreign products applied to their bodies. This can be potentially problematic,
90 TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM
and when ingested, can cause nausea and sickness for the precious pup. It is easy to avoid this disaster when purchasing products from the right place; most sunscreens sold at pet stores do not use zinc oxide as an ingredient. Also, try to use sunscreens that use all-natural ingredients such as aloe and willow herb. Some dogs are serious sunbathers, but finding a nice, shaded spot beneath a tree or gazebo is also a great solution to preventing overexposure to the sun. Some dogs find this safe spot naturally after frolicking around the yard on hot summer days, while others might need your assistance when seeking shelter. What if it’s too late, Fluffy already has a sunburn? Not to worry, just give him a cool bath with a soapfree shampoo as not to irritate his skin further. For the best results, add a touch of Neem Oil to the shampoo solution. This works quickly to heal sun-exposed skin. If all else fails, spruce up your pup with some stylish attire to shield its sensitive skin from the sun. Customize a t-shirt to fit Fluffy’s curves or buy a cute outfit to turn his sunny day into a fashion début. There is always a solution to keeping your dog out harms way and the suns rays. Try these products just in case:
