I choose the best care for my patients.

Ever since I was 5 years old, growing up in Gary, Indiana, I wanted to be a doctor to help people feel better. My desire to become an OB-GYN came about when my aunt died of cervical cancer, a cancer that may have been preventable with annual well-woman exams and screenings. I have been with Orlando Health since becoming a physician. I did my OB-GYN residency at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies and then joined an Orlando Health Physician Associates practice. I will always choose Orlando Health!

PUBLISHER’S NOTE

Dear Readers, The Florida heat is rising upon us, which means that we can finally say that summer is here, along with all the wonderful experiences that this season of sun and fun brings. Days are getting longer, temperatures are getting hotter, our economy is getting even stronger, and the local housing market is on the upswing while local businesses are continuing to blossom. Summer is the perfect time to enjoy all the excitement that Central Florida has to offer, from our world-class attractions to local shopping and dining. It is also a great opportunity to get out and partake in outdoor activities and summer sports while the sun is shining. For those of you who have been following the World Cup action in Russia, which team is your favorite team? Send us an email at info@StyleToMe.com. We’d love to hear from you about your thoughts on the World Cup or what’s happening around the city! In our culture today, sports seem to be the number one profession that allows men to feel accepted, confident, and worthy of praise. However, in television and the media, the average man is not portrayed in such a wonderful light, and I would like to take this opportunity to voice my opinion in regards to this representation. We are constantly bombarded with sitcoms and reality shows depicting men as dummies and deadbeat dads—descriptions that we know could not be further from the truth. We can’t even tune in without seeing a commercial hinting that men in general are nothing more than sex-obsessed

womanizers brimming with incompetence and brutish slobs who possess very few redeeming qualities. I think TV shows, commercials and movies need to cut us a little slack and shine a more positive light on men. After all, there really are good men still around! So let’s celebrate those good men in this Summer issue. At Orlando Style, we hope to empower both men and women to be true to who they are and enjoy life every step of the way. Along with motivating and exciting articles and photo series to inspire your summer, this issue features our “No.1 Elite Doctors” special, where you might find just the right doctor for your needs. Doctors are amazing, and even more amazing is the human body. Did you know that with the exception of our cerebral cortex, the portion of our brain responsible for consciousness is entirely replaced every seven years? Although this may be an exaggeration, it’s an intriguing idea. Red blood cells are completely replaced every 120 days. Skin cells are changed out about every four weeks, and the surface of your lungs are only three weeks old. Our bodies are in a constant state of rebuild! In fact, by the time you read this, millions of your cells will have died and been replaced with new ones. Perhaps we are obsessed with newness because we are constantly renewing. Since your body is always adapting, so should your style! Orlando Style is just the right magazine for you, with ever-changing original content in every issue, every month, every year… unlike the TV media that repeats everything all the time over and over again.

Sometimes I can’t believe that advertisers are still buying into that. Reading our magazine is likely more exciting and entertaining than cable, especially with ways to switch up your style every month. Let us know your thoughts. Each issue, we strive to create every magazine that surpasses the quality and content of the preceding release. This labor of love requires total dedication each and every day. Orlando Style is always at the top of the charts when it comes to being the most loved, read and respected magazine in the city, and our readers are living proof of our recognized popularity. You can help strengthen our passion to keep producing this high quality, fulfilling and satisfying product by showing your appreciation for our efforts through your continuous support, as well as by encouraging your friends and acquaintances to join our list of growing ‘family’ members by subscribing to our magazine. Simply go to our website, www.OrlandoStyleMagazine.com and click “orlandostylemagazine.com/subscribe” Please stay safe this hurricane season and enjoy the beauty around you! Sincerely, Sven J. Bode

THE ANNUAL WINE TASTING AND AUCTION CELEBRATES WINES AND CRAFT SPIRITS FROM AROUND THE WORLD AT LOEWS ROYAL PACIFIC RESORT.

CITY NEWS

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT! By Riesa Pascal

Get out the shades, rub on some sunblock, and dust off your beach towels... summer is upon us and Orlando Style is celebrating with our annual July/August Summer Double Issue! Before you dive into all the exciting content within, take a look at some of the exciting events that occurred throughout our city in June. Here are the highlights, just in case you missed it! To the delight of many wine enthusiasts, Wine Quest 2018 returned to Universal Orlando on Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2. In partnership with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, the annual wine tasting and auction celebrates wines and craft spirits from around the world at Loews Royal Pacific Resort. Attendees delighted in exquisite cuisine and partook in both silent and live auctions that benefitted Quest, Inc. A beloved Orlando tradition took over Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards from June 8-10! Families showed up in their droves all weekend long to do the purple foot dance at the Summerfest Grape Stomp. The ever popular grape festival featured three days of live music on an outdoor stage, as well as inside at their popular Wine & Cheese bar. Visitors enjoyed Lakeridge wine, beer, soft drinks, and a variety of food in addition to complimentary Winery tours and tasting. Caribbean Carnaval brought countless hours of island fun to Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Orlando from

June 8-22. Guests took a musical journey through the Caribbean during an interactive dinner show as they enjoyed authentic food, songs and dances inspired by the islands. Attendees were encouraged to savor the vibrant colors, delightful tastes and rich sounds of the Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad. From conga lines to limbo, Caribbean Carnaval was an island escape like no other! Many lucky families in Orlando got a head start on the Father’s Day celebrations by taking advantage of the Harry’s Brewmaster Series Presents SweetWater Brewing Company event on June 15. SweetWater Brewing Company served up an incredible six course meal, featuring delicious food from award-winning Ched Tello Luna with perfectly matched beers from SweetWater Brewing Company. Dads and company alike enjoyed a meal that included Creole Braised Beef, Roasted Halibut, Lamb Ravioli, salads and even dessert. Festival of the Sea at Festival Park was a family event meant to bring out those who share one thing in common, the love of seafood! On June 16, attendees enjoyed an amazing outdoor experience with multiple seafood vendors serving up all of their favorites. It was a day of fun for all ages as even kids had a designated play area to enjoy as they interacted with other children their age. Meanwhile, the adults had an opportunity to experience the ever-popular beer & wine garden in

addition to visiting the many fabulous Arts & Crafts vendors. Wall Street Plaza is known for throwing raging parties and the 14th Annual Rum & Reggae Festival was no exception! On June 16, Downtown Orlando enjoyed three hours of unlimited samplings of over 20 different kinds of Rum drinks with premium Rum brands including Bacardi, Captain Morgan, Kraken, Tanduay, Diplomatico, Blue Chair Bay, Don Q, Rumchata and Brugal as well as some new, exciting and rare rums too—but what’s the biggest Rum Party of the year without music? Fortunately attendees also enjoyed live Reggae-Rock music from your favorite local bands and DJ Red I. A precocious young mermaid dreams of visiting the Landside. Against the advice of her friends, she makes a deal with an evil sea witch for the chance to earn the love of a human prince. Danger is imminent, but how can she ignore what’s in her heart? Adapted by Brandon Roberts, The Little Mermaid Live Performance opened on June 14 at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater to a packed house of theater goers. The beloved show runs until July 29, so don’t miss your opportunity to witness Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale classic live on stage! Know of a not-to-be-missed event? Do tell. production@orlandostylemag.com

One of the earliest signs of aging is a loss of facial fullness and the development of wrinkles. Softening of these facial lines and the restoration of volume and fullness to the face can often be achieved non-surgically with dermal fillers. Dermal fillers may be used to plump thinning lips, enhance shallow contours, soften wrinkles, or to improve the appearance of recessed scars. This procedure takes only 10-15 minutes to perform. Results last from 1 to 2 years depending on the treatment selected.

ORTHY RAGS

THE VINTAGE POP-UP SHOP REVOLUTIONIZING LOCAL FASHION By Courtney Caggiano

@Worthyragsco (IG) Worthy Rags (FB) contact: idescloset@gmail.com

| ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

OUR TOWN

With her pop-up curation of one-of-a-kind vintage finds, Worthy Rags founder Idenise Rodriguez invites you to discover your new favorite piece that is as innately original as you are. From her first Worthy Rags pop-up shop at the College Park Farmer’s Market, Rodriguez has been spreading her passion for vintage finds throughout the Orlando area. “I went one time to LA and I fell in love with their vintage flea markets, and that’s what gave me the idea that I can do this,” Rodriguez remembers. “I find pieces and clean them up—that’s how I make them worthy. I think, I can fix this or steam it or make it new again and somebody will love it.” Featuring a patiently-curated collection of unique items from the past, Worthy Rags represents Rodriguez’s desire to inspire women to see beauty in the unexpected and to live a life of style that portrays their remarkable individuality—and worth. “Every year, I pick a word that would help me work on myself, and one year, my word just so happened to be ‘worthy.’ I didn’t

feel like I was enough. With social media and everything, you have a standard for beauty. With Worthy Rags, I can talk about my experience as I go and encourage women.” Rodriguez is on her way to becoming a true tastemaker in the City Beautiful, motivating women to embrace the eclectic spectrum of fashion that echoes the melange of faces and figures who call Orlando home. “In Orlando, people are trying to pinpoint what our style is, but it’s like a melting pot—everybody from every culture coming together and trying to feed off of each other and inspire each other,” Rodriguez shares. “That’s how I look at fashion.” This love for the people of her city has served as an influence in Rodriguez’s vintage collection, as she has experienced the joys of bringing her clients the special pieces for which they have been searching. “When people are looking at vintage clothing, they want to go back to that era and relive it. Right now, everybody’s into the nineties, so they are trying to find authentic

pieces from the nineties. How do you do that? You have to go vintage shopping.” With such a colorful variety of decades and designers, vintage clothing is the perfect canvas for Rodriguez to capture the wide range of beauty showcased throughout Central Florida, while providing her clients with the authenticity they are searching for—both in their clothing and in their community. “What I love about my pop-ups is having compassion for people, meeting different people… People crave that—they crave community. And that’s what I want,” says Rodriguez. “I don’t want to be just a brand that says, ‘You have to look this way in order to wear my stuff.’ I like all different shapes and sizes of people and different cultures. I love bringing in different skin colors and palettes into my photoshoots.” Rodriguez also enjoys highlighting the city’s photographers through her promotional shoots, serving as a curator not only of statement pieces but also of local talent. Some of her Orlando-based photographers include David Lee, Johely Bruno, Chepe Jose, Faith

Holden, and Luis Diaz. But aside from her amazing photographers, Worthy Rags is constructed solely from the mind and heart of Rodriguez. “When I’m done with a pop-up, I feel full, and my heart is full. I’m always thinking, is it going to work, are people going to show up? But it always works out. People are responding to it. It’s definitely a leap of faith for me.” That leap of faith has certainly begun to pay off. With each new pop-up, Rodriguez is watching the impact she is leaving on those who find a new favorite piece from Worthy Rags. And this impact is only growing. “I want to at some point become an empowering brand… to empower women and people in general… Every time you come, it’s about finding that special piece. I don’t want to keep it in a box.” You can catch Rodriguez and Worthy Rags currently popping up at the College Park Farmer’s Market, and join Worthy Rags at the Glo Up Series: Glam Sessions on July 12, 5-8pm at 1520 Edgewater Dr. Suite J, Orlando, FL.

OUR TOWN

AS I GOT MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE DOWNTOWN NEIGHBORHOODS, I STARTED TO SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE OF WHERE OUR CITY’S GOING.

COFFEE +

COMMUNITY DEEPLY COFFEE OPENS IN DOWNTOWN ORLANDO By Courtney Caggiano

Downtown Orlando is about to welcome its new favorite coffee shop, Deeply Coffee, where a rich latte and a good conversation go hand in hand. Founder Ryan Holden and his wife, Faith, along with Shop Manager and Head Barista Juan Diaz, have helped to create a special coffee experience, from the shop’s visionary aesthetic to the delectable menu items that will be revealed to guests at Deeply’s grand opening this summer. As an Orlando native, Holden has spent years passionately searching for his unique role in positively shaping the culture of his hometown. After an inspiring trip to the Pacific Northwest, he and his wife began to consider opening their own coffee shop as a comfortable and creative space for the people of Orlando.

20

| ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

Holden lives and serves as a missionary in the Parramore neighborhood, not far from the location of his shop. This opportunity to form lasting connections with locals from all walks of life has allowed Holden to see the powerful potential of a place for purposeful conversation—and a warm cup of coffee. “As I got more familiar with the downtown neighborhoods, I started to see the bigger picture of where our city’s going as far as growth and vision in the next three to five years, and I saw our coffee shop being a part of it,” Holden says. Located within the heart of downtown, Deeply Coffee is on the verge of becoming one of the city’s most popular hotspots—not far from the beautiful views of Lake Eola—where people

who share Holden’s passion for cultivating community can find a home away from home. “What really excited me was to be a neighborhood coffeeshop for the residents for those that live in downtown—creating a space where community can happen and where the best coffee can be served to the residents of downtown.” Holden also hopes that Deeply Coffee becomes a much-needed place of relaxation for the creative minds of downtown Orlando. “We believe that this space will be a safe place for people. Downtown has a lot of amazing bars and clubs, but there’s not really a space like this. We plan on being open as early as 6:30 in the morning until 10 at night,” says Holden. “It’s

OUR TOWN

important to have a more relaxed, chill kind of vibe in a space where we can connect and spend time with friends—where people can get work done in the evening, have good conversation, good hangs with friends.” Currently, Deeply Coffee is a multi-roaster coffee shop, partnering with quality roasters in and out of state to provide guests with an interesting and original coffee experience. “We’re bringing in what we believe is the best coffee to showcase in our space, and with that, we’re going to have the dynamic of having consistency as well as having something that’s new and fresh every quarter,” Holden shares.

we get to bring in some of the best coffee from around the country.”

best of the best because we believe that’s just the posture in which we live our lives... that’s deeply. We believe that will set us apart. The culture is wholeheartedness.”

And for the perfect finishing touch—homemade waffles! Among their variety of pastries sourced from a local baker, Deeply Coffee’s in-house recipe of liege-style waffles is the company’s signature accompaniment to their delicious roasts. Deeply’s Belgian pearl sugar liege waffle pairs exquisitely with a single origin black coffee, and the savory ham, cheddar cheese, and chives waffle makes for a scrumptious afternoon treat.

Holden anticipates that Orlando natives like himself will taste the difference in Deeply Coffee. “We hope that our guests experience wholeheartedness in everything—in the atmosphere, in every drink, in every food item that we serve—that they know that we’re doing everything to the best of our ability… and that we’re enjoying it along the way.”

From choosing the finest coffee to patiently crafting the ideal Belgian waffle, quality is evident in every aspect of Deeply—which is exactly why Holden chose such a fitting name.

With their anchor roaster, King State, located in Tampa, Deeply receives amazing coffee with various origins. Holden is also thrilled about Deeply’s quarterly guests roasters. “Four times a year, we’ll bring in a new guest roaster. Our first guest is from Methodical Coffee, located in Greenville, South Carolina,” Holden explains. “Something unique to us is that

“Deeply, to us, speaks of wholeheartedness in everything that you do, so deeply is what I believe will set us apart,” Holden states. “In every little detail, we have chosen wholeheartedness. If we’re going to have something on our menu, we’re going to do it right—we’re not going to cut corners. The equipment that’s in our shop has been chosen piece by piece, and we’ve chosen the

Currently the largest observation wheel on the east coast, this attraction offers stunning views of the Orlando skyline. ICON Orlando is located in a larger complex which includes the Sea Life Aquarium, the Museum of Osteology, Arcade City, the Starflyer, Madame Tussauds, the 7D Dark Ride Adventrure, and the Pearl Express Train. Be sure to check out the new $69 unlimited annual pass!

STAR WARS: GALAXY’S EDGE

Coming to Disney World in Fall 2019 We’re so excited that the new, highly-

anticipated Star Wars: a Galaxy’s Edge themed land will be coming to Disney World in Fall 2019. Here are five key facts to keep in mind when planning your visit.

1. The land will be located in a village called the Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu. 2. There will be a Millneium Falcon ride which will offer an immersive experience and give guests the chance to be a pilot.

SEAWORLD FIREWORKS

3. The land will also offer a more traditional rollercoaster, called the First Order ride. 4. For food and beverages options, visit the Star Wars Cantina (try the blue milk) or the dinner club style restaurant. 5. Stop by the Creature Stall to create your very own Star Wars creature to bring home as a souvenir.

Enjoy one of Orlando’s most magnificent fireworks displays For a family-friendly Fourth of July celebration, visit SeaWorld Orlando and stay for the annual patriotic fireworks show. The show is included with the price of admission and will immediately follow the nighttime show, Ignite, which also features fireworks and other special effects. You can reserve your seat in advance for Bayside Stadium, the optimal viewing location.

“UNITED STATES, CANADA, AND MEXICO WON THE HOSTING PRIVILEGE OF THE 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP™ AND ORLANDO POTENTIALLY HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE A PART OF IT FOR A SECOND TIME”

26

| ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

With the World Cup currently taking place in Russia, its only appropriate to talk about the very exciting announcement. A collective bid from the United States, Canada, and Mexico won the hosting privilege of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ and Orlando potentially has the opportunity to be a part of it for a second time. This international soccer competition hosts men’s national teams fighting for the championship every four years. The World Cup will be returning to North America for the first time since 1994, in which the United States still maintains record-breaking attendance. “Hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup is a rare and important moment to demonstrate that we are all truly united through sport,” said Carlos Cordeiro, president of U.S. Soccer and co-chair of the United Bid. 60 of the 80 matches are planned for American stadiums, which hold the quality and quantity able to welcome fans from all over. Out of 23 cities, Orlando has been chosen by the United Bid Committee to be a potential host. Orlando’s love for soccer is just a small percentage of North America’s great appreciation for the sport, so there’s no doubt that the support

will be groundbreaking. With the potential to host matches here in Orlando, we welcome the worldwide shared appreciation and passion coming together to further the sport’s success. Crowds will undoubtedly flood businesses in our area, growing and promoting what we excel at. A recent economic impact study says that hosting cities could acquire up to $500 million in economic activity each. With tourism as our claim to fame and our newly reconstructed Camping World Stadium, Orlando is ideal to host the world’s best players. North America’s hosting position could create more than $5 billion in economic activity More than $14 billion in revenue and $11 billion in profits for FIFA is also anticipated from the United Bid. This will be the first time ever that three countries will share the big host honor, and the usual 32 competing nations will increase to 48. Every factor included in the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ guarantees enormous record breaking statistics and a memorable celebration of soccer. The United States might not have been qualified this year, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t win. Orlando, North America, FIFA, and soccer are about to make history again.

You have your rosé, flowers, sandwiches, fresh-cut strawberries, and your gingham blanket... now what? Planning your outfit for your picnic is equally as important as planning what to eat, and maybe even more fun. Here are a few pieces that’ll make your fairytale-like picnic a summer memory that you’ll cherish. The last thing you want to wear on your picnic is denim that’ll only end up sticking to you. One of the most effortless trends that’ll have you looking put together on your picnic is the wrap skirt. Wrap skirts can be mini or maxi, whichever you prefer; they are easy and breezy, and the easiest article of clothing to style. The good thing about styling your wrap skirt is that you already own the other piece you need to complete your look. If your skirt has pattern, try a basic white tank. Or even match a floral crop top with a solid color wrap. Sounds maybe too easy, right?

Another option is wearing a tie front crop top. Tie front tops are on the rise and seem to be everywhere, and we can easily see why. The frontknot is adjustable so you can breathe on these hot, sunny days. Pair your crop top with a mini skirt or even some cotton high waisted shorts. These light, airy tops will have you laying back on your blanket relaxing and enjoying the sun. Now that you have the hardest part of getting a look together done, accessorizing should be a breeze. Woven bags are in, so don’t be afraid to carry around your picnic basket around like a purse. You can even add a colorful bow on the handle to add a cute accent. The perfect shoe to match your picnic theme is the espadrille. These roped soles come in different heights and in neutral tones. The cool tones and woven bottoms will match any outfit, and will even complement your picnic basket.

DON’T MISS THE BEAT

BRITISH icon SAM SMITH

48

| ORLANDOSTYLEMAGAZINE.COM

DON’T MISS THE BEAT

...will make his long-awaited debut at Orlando’s Amway Center on July 11, followed by a stop at Tampa’s Amalie Arena on July 13. By Courtney Caggiano

With a masterful second album and a rejuvenated, hopeful self-awareness, Sam Smith has crafted a live experience that exhibits the singer’s musical and emotional maturity as one of pop’s most charming artists. From his influential rise to fame in October 2012 as the featured vocalist on Disclosure’s groundbreaking single “Latch” and his 2014 first studio album, In the Lonely Hour, Smith has been renovating the musical scene with endearing vulnerability—his enchanting falsetto and overly-honest lyrics have entranced the hearts of millions—an impossible feat for a sentimental singer without a talent like Smith’s to match. In November 2017, Smith released his highlyanticipated second album, The Thrill of It All, greeting the world with an unexpected sense of independence. The Thrill of It All is signature Smith at his best— heightened sensitivity matched with vulnerable vocals that reach heights achievable only by one who has been bitterly wounded by a former lover. Still, even while showing off his ever-rooted tenderness, Smith impresses audiences with a newfound strength that defines a new era of confidence for the singer. Lyrics like, “You made me sad till I loved the shade of blue,” may reflect scars of young love, but don’t be fooled—although well-versed in an array of relational stings, Smith has resolved to be a relentless protector of his delicate heart. In his 2017 gospel-tinged introduction to the album, “Too Good at Goodbyes,” Smith promises, “Every time you hurt me, the less that I cry,” which is a long way from his desperate pleas for affection in 2014’s “Stay with me.” The three years separating the two charttopping hits must have been paved with growth, as Smith’s “Too Good at Goodbyes” gave a glimpse of a more fully-defined artist—transforming the stains of heartbreak into a portrait of a refined young artist.

sixth number one single, and it debuted at number one in the U.S. on the Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, with worldwide Spotify streams of the single exceeding 100 million. Continuing to echo the impact of his first album, Smith shared “One Last Song” as a second single and a successful follow-up to “Too Good at Goodbyes.” In March of 2018, the world welcomed the album’s third single, “Pray,” one of the singer’s most spiritual pieces. Featuring American rapper Logic, the melancholy track highlights the paradox of a soul living in worldly fame while searching for divine intervention. Smith lets his haunting voice climb unforeseen mountains with vocal runs that would not be out of place in gospel choirs. Not only does The Thrill of It All showcase the myriad feelings of a capable soul, it also demonstrates Smith’s immense ability as a worthy songwriter and a stunning vocalist. Throughout the album, Smith offers purposeful lyrics washed with clarity and poignancy—words with much more perspective of his personal life than those of his previous album. Smith’s live renditions of these powerful songs are sure to fill you with poetic inspiration and hope in the lonely hour, so come experience the magical gift of Sam Smith and his cherubic vocals on July 11 at the Amway Center in Orlando or July 13 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa.

THE THRILL OF IT ALL IS SIGNATURE SMITH AT HIS BEST—HEIGHTENED SENSITIVITY MATCHED WITH VULNERABLE VOCALS THAT REACH HEIGHTS ACHIEVABLE ONLY BY ONE WHO HAS BEEN BITTERLY WOUNDED BY A FORMER LOVER.

“Too Good at Goodbyes” remained on the Singles Chart Top 100 for three consecutive weeks, becoming Smith’s

BEAT THE HEAT

By Megan Miller

All white everything

Dressing in all one color may seem silly and impossible, but if you know how to pull it off correctly, you’ll be fashionable and ready to take on the sun. Keeping your look head-to-toe all one color is called tonal dressing and is very popular amongst menswear. White can be a difficult one because of the variations of color such as egg shell, beige, ivory, etc., but it’s actually very simple. A rule of thumb for monochromatic looks is to make sure that each item is the same shade. By doing this your outfit looks cohesive and put together. If you find yourself bored with this try switching up the textures. Pairing linen trousers

with a cotton button down shirt is the perfect light texture combo to keep you cool. Still feeling a bit nervous to try this trend out? Sticking with a white top and a white pant, and adding sharp brown accessories may be the way to go. Go all in with white loafers, or add some nuetral color with a brown belt and classic brown loafers. Learning how to accessorize your tonal outfit is key, so keep those straw hats in mind! With this look you’ll be ready for your much needed tropical vacation this summer.

CELEBRITY SOUP

OUTRAGEOUS CELEBRITY PURCHASES

It’s safe to say these celebrities have no concept of money!

52

| STYLETOME.COM

CELEBRITY SOUP

Nepotism and inheritances aside (I’m looking at you Paris Hilton), most of the celebrities in this list have worked very hard to achieve their level of success, fame and wealth. From acting to boxing, each of their respective talents have earned them every single penny of their fortune so they deserve to spend their money however they choose. That being said, they also can’t blame the public for scrutinizing some of the more outrageous items they have deemed necessary to purchase over the years...

LADY GAGA The famed singer-songwriter is a big believer in paranormal activity and during her 2010 Monster Ball tour, she believed she was being followed by a ghost named Ryan. As reported to the Daily Star from a member of her crew: “She’s been telling us all for months that she has a male spirit called Ryan who travels the world with her.” She believed this so deeply that she invested $47,000 on an state-of-the-art Electromagnetic Field machine and a team of paranormal experts to investigate every concert venue she performed in and hotel in which she stayed. While gigging in Ireland, she even reportedly held a seance in an attempt to see Ryan off once and for all.

NICOLAS CAGE The Academy Award-winning actor has enough weird and expensive purchases to fill up this whole article, but for now we’ll focus on two! First of all, who could forget the time Cage once bought a $276,000 dinosaur skull? However, once he found out that the skull had to be smuggled into the US, he kindly decided to return it to the owners. But perhaps one of the absolute strangest things he’s ever purchased was an alleged haunted mansion in New Orleans that was featured in American Horror Story: Coven. Cage purchased the house in 2006 for $3,450,000 but lost it due to foreclosure in 2009. Unlike Cage, something tells me Gaga has no interest in this particular purchase.

BONO For someone who frequently encourages others to donate money, Bono sure seems to enjoy spending his own money frivolously! Most notably was the time Bono spent more than $1,500 on getting his hat from London to Modena because he refused to do a charity concert without it. Yes, you read that correctly…$1,500 on travel expenses for a hat. After he realized he had left his favorite trilby in London, Bono had it put in a taxi to the airport, then he bought it a first-class seat on a British Airways flight to Bologna (though it rode in the cockpit with the pilot), then had it placed in another taxi to Modena, Italy.

PARIS HILTON It’s an unwritten rule that all fur babies should be spoiled mercilessly by their parents and if you’re Paris Hilton, then you can take that rule to a whole new level! One can easily imagine how much expensive clothing and jewelry Paris has bought for her pets, but did you know that she also had a custom doggy house built in her backyard for $325,000? Naturally the two-story dog house was modeled from her own mansion and it has many luxurious features including air conditioning, heating, designer furniture, access to the pool, leather chairs, and even an elegant chandelier.

ELTON JOHN Who says flowers are a luxury for women only? Elton John loves them so much, he once spent nearly half a million dollars on them in just 20 months! In the late 1990s, the singer and composer took some former business associates to court to get to the bottom of a £20 million hole in his finances. This resulted in having his spending habits closely examined and among the bank statements and receipts it was discovered that Elton John spent around $400,000 on flowers for himself in a 20 month period. He responded to public criticism saying,

“I like flowers. I don’t have any people to leave my money to, I’m a single man, I like to spend money. It’s my money to spend.”

MIKE TYSON When he was in his prime, the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world seemed eager to blow his entire fortune on exorbitantly expensive luxury goods and bizarre spending sprees. According to bankruptcy documents, Mike Tyson spent nearly $4.5 million on cars and motorcycles, $3.4 million on clothes and jewelry, and $7.8 million on personal expenses. He once even famously spent $140,000 on the purchase of two white Bengal tiger cubs and another $125,000 a year for their trainer. However, perhaps nothing is more bizarre than Mike’s purchase of a multi-million dollar bathtub. The 24-karat, solid gold tub was purchased as a birthday gift for his then-wife Robin Givens for $2.3 million.

These fatty acids aid in the production of collagen which can make your skin appear more youthful by improving its elasticity. We recommend wild salmon, as it contains antioxidants that are known to reduce inflammation. Add fish oil supplements to your vitamin intake to reap the same benefits. 2. Avocados Avocados are a great source of healthy fats, which can help reduce skin inflammation. Additionally, they contain a fair amount of vitamin E which prevents wrinkles and vitamin C which brightens your skin. Biotin is also found in avocados and is known to keep skin nice and moisturized. 3. Eat B, which can lessen stress and prevent wrinkles and aging in the skin. Remember to eat these nuts in moderation, however, as they are relatively high in calories. 4. Dark Chocolate Surprised? Most people assumed that chocolate is bad for your skin. There is some truth to this, as chocolate with a high sugar content is often linked to breakouts. However, dark chocolate that has a high percentage of cacao contains flavonoids that reduce inflammation and vitamins that moisturize skin. Dark chocolate also contains minerals that can help clear eczema. 5. Tomatoes Tomatoes are a good source of vitamin E and also contain a phytochemical called lycopene which can protect your skin from damage caused by ultraviolet rays.. Tomatoes can easily be added to almost any dish and are used in many skin-brightening face masks.

1. Fried food Fried and greasy food items are linked to oily skin and acne breakouts. 2. Processed Sugars Studies have found connections between diets with larger percentages of processed sugars and more episodes of acne breakouts. 3. White Bread Refined carbohydrates are known to increase skin inflammation. 4. Chips Chips and other salty snacks can also cause inflammation and decrease collagen production. 5. Dairy Dairy-free diets have recently been linked to less breakouts and clearer skin.

SPOTLIGHT ON THE LAW

WHAT JURORS ARE NOT TOLD ABOUT FEDERAL CRIMINAL TRIALS

The Sixth amendment to the United States Constitution provides that in all criminal prosecutions the accused has the right to a trial by an impartial jury. The Founding Fathers recognized citizens must be protected from abusive prosecutions that are motivated by political considerations or based upon false or insufficient facts. The right to trial by jury places citizens, serving as jurors, between the accused and the government. Prosecutors and investigators are not always right in deciding to prosecute a case. Mistakes can be made by investigators due to inexperience, failure to conduct an impartial investigation, intentional falsehoods by the investigator in reporting or gathering evidence, and reliance upon cooperators and informants who are motivated to seek favorable treatment and reduce their prison sentence. These and other reasons can result in innocent individuals being convicted and sentenced to long terms in federal prison. Many jurors have beliefs as to procedures concerning investigations, disclosures to the defendant and other matters that impact a defendant’s right to a fair trial. Common perceptions of jurors include: the government provides the defendant a list of government witnesses prior to trial and the defense lawyer has an opportunity to take a deposition of the government witnesses so as to require the witnesses to answer questions under oath before the trial. What jurors are not told is that the government has no legal obligation to disclose the witnesses that it intends to call to testify. The jury is also not aware of the fact that there is no legal obligation on the government to provide the defense with written statements of the witness until after the witness testifies on direct examination at trial. Some judges require that the government provide the names of the government witnesses and any written or sworn statements of the witnesses shortly before the trial starts.

Most federal law enforcement agencies do not obtain written or sworn statements from potential witnesses. In addition, most federal agents do not record statements obtained from witnesses during the investigation. In fact, federal agents go out of their way not to obtain a written or sworn statement of the pertinent facts from the witnesses interviewed during the investigation. It is interesting that in the United Kingdom the prosecution must present the defense with a sworn statement from every prosecution witness concerning the facts to which the witness will testify about. No such document is required and usually is not created by the federal investigators. The federal investigators will prepare a written memorandum for the prosecutor but will not show that memorandum to the witness to determine whether the agent’s memorandum of interview is accurate. If the memorandum was shown to the witness, it would then become the witness’ statement and subject to being turned over to the defense after the witness testifies on direct examination by the prosecutor. When a civil case is tried in federal court, the parties exchange witness lists and have the right to take depositions of witnesses prior to trial so as to find out what the witness has to say under oath about the case. In civil and criminal cases in Florida state courts, the parties exchange witness lists and have the right to take witness depositions prior to trial. Many jurors would be surprised that in civil cases where people are suing over money, there are more rights for a defendant than in a criminal case in federal court where a defendant can face years and decades in prison. Many jurors would also be shocked at the long length of prison sentences imposed for even minor crimes. Jurors may consider the quality, motivation, thoroughness and accuracy of the prosecution and agents. These factors alone may raise a reasonable doubt and result in a verdict of Not Guilty.

EFFORTLESS EVERYWHERE:

THE ROLLS-ROYCE CULLINAN “The super-luxury lifestyle is evolving and Rolls-Royce is in the lead. Luxury is no longer an urban concept. More and more it is about embracing and experiencing the wider world. Our customers expect to go everywhere in luxury, effortlessly and without compromise, conquering the most challenging terrain to enjoy life’s most enriching experiences, wherever they may be. For this reason, they have asked us to create a RollsRoyce that offers uncompromised luxury wherever they dare to venture. Cullinan is that car. It is Effortless, Everywhere.

“From the very beginning the design team treated this brand new Rolls-Royce as a unique, high bodied car. With global customer expectations in mind, our aim was two-fold – realise a presence to match the magnificent capability of Cullinan, whilst setting sector defining standards for luxury and elegance. We know that many of our luxury patrons pursue sports or leisure hobbies that require precisely this type of go anywhere vehicle – Cullinan’s design gesture had to possess an immediate sense of effortless accomplishment.”

It is incomparable and dramatically evolves the parameters of super-luxury travel, translating Rolls-Royce’s ethos of ‘Effortlessness’ into physical capability, anywhere in the world. Cullinan will simply take the world in its stride.” Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

“The label SUV is now applied to anything with a two-box silhouette and the least suggestion of going off tarmac. We envisioned an authentic, three-box high-bodied all-terrain car with a convention-challenging design and absolute capability that would satisfy the adventurous urges of our clients.” Giles Taylor, Director of Design, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

“The launch of a new Rolls-Royce model is always a seminal moment in the luxury industry. Today we are setting a new standard by creating a new class of motoring and motor car for customers who are well-connected, highly mobile and have a global perspective. They want a new type of motor car that gives them unbounded access in ultimate luxury. Their sense of adventure and daring demands a “go-anywhere in ultimate luxury” motor car that will both take them to and meet them at the pinnacle of life. Cullinan is that motor-car.” Peter Schwarzenbauer, Chairman of Rolls-Royce and Member of the Board of the BMW Group.

“This landscape is savage, but this journey has been seamless. What’s unique is the ability to absorb the road without thought and simply let yourself get lost. You don’t so much drive as you float and it seems to get almost smoother the faster you go. The turning and the grip are unreal, almost hugging the road and seeming to glide above it. Sometimes making pictures is as much about getting there as it is about the image itself.” Cory Richards, National Geographic photographer and star of The Final Challenge.

IN THE KNOW

WHEN IT COMES TO CAR INSURANCE NOT JUST FOR THE ELDERLY

Every week people come into our office who have the misfortune of being injured in an automobile crash to no fault of their own. Often times, these people are victimized twice because the person who negligently struck them either had no insurance or, worse yet, and increasingly frequent, the at fault party leaves the scene of the crash without leaving any information, known as a hit and run. When meeting with these clients, they undoubtedly, and over optimistically, tell us, “Don’t worry, I have full coverage”. Inevitably we watch their faces sink as we tell them that this phrase (probably given by an ill-informed insurance agent) has no meaning in the law. Florida is known as a “No-Fault” state. This simply means that the law requires you to have what is known as No-Fault insurance or Personal Injury Protection or PIP coverage. This coverage pays your medical bills and lost wages at 80%, up to $10,000.00, so long as you have treated medically within Fourteen days of the crash and you have a qualified medical provider determine your treatment results from an Emergency Medical Condition. This amount of coverage can easily be consumed with one E.R. visit post-crash. In addition, this coverage can leave you to pay the remaining 20% of the outstanding balance. This is the coverage most people associate with “Full Coverage”, when in fact, it is the bare minimum one must have to legally drive in Florida. So, what does PIP not cover? The easy answer is nothing more than 80% of your medical bills up to $10,000.00. The better answer to what PIP does not cover is everything else. Many people do not realize that if the other driver does not have insurance of any kind or the crash results in a hit and run, No Fault insurance does not cover the cost of the car repairs. This again is an extra insurance known as Comprehensive and Collision coverage. Again, many potential clients come into our office believing they have “Full Coverage”, who unfortunately cannot afford to have their only means of transportation repaired because they did not understand that the term “Full Coverage” has no real meaning under the law. Jason J. Recksiedler Partner with NeJame Law & Mark NeJame jointly contributed to this article

The most disappointing scenario we see is when the potential client requires medical care beyond $10,000.00 and they continue to suffer physically. The insurance we look for from the person who causes the crash is known as Bodily Injury Coverage (BI). This is an insurance that

the at fault party would carry to protect themselves from exposure to a personal judgment. Amazingly, in Florida, Bodily Injury Insurance is not required to be purchased in order to drive on our highways. (The injustice behind this law may be for another article). So, a person causes a crash, has no insurance and no assets and you, as the victim, are victimized a second time if you believe you have “Full Coverage” not knowing what that really means. So what auto insurance should you have to protect yourself from these scenarios of injustice. Well, in order to protect yourself from others, since the Florida Legislature has decided not to pass laws to make the at fault party responsible for their negligence, we always recommend that our clients pay for the following insurance coverages: Personal Injury Protection, Bodily Injury, Underinsured Motorist, Uninsured Motorist and Comprehensive and Collision. If you owe more on your vehicle than it is worth, we also recommend what is known as “gap” insurance. Clients generally don’t realize that Underinsured Motorist and Uninsured Motorist Coverage known as UM/UIM, is part of a package which costs only a relatively small amount more if you are already paying for Bodily Injury Coverage. Remember, Bodily Injury Coverage pays on your behalf if you caused the crash but UM/UIM can pay you in the event the other person causes the crash and does not have sufficient or any insurance. The next time you get behind the wheel of your car, don’t assume you have “Full Coverage”. Take a look at your policy and make sure you have Uninsured and Underinsured Coverage, along with Comprehensive and Collison Coverage. After all, we live in Orlando and you probably drive on I-4 or the 408, which are constantly under construction and where crashes seem to be an everyday fact of life. Don’t rely on the person next to you to have insurance that will compensate you for losses. Instead, take the necessary steps to educate yourself and protect yourself and your loved ones. Don’t be victimized a second time by the empty phrase “Full Coverage”; empower yourself with actually having meaningful auto insurance coverage.

Easy Steps to Help Your Dog Drop the

Extra Weight By Megan Miller

As pet owners we want to do anything and everything to make sure our pets live a long and happy life, and health is the number one factor in making sure that this happens. Everyone likes a little fluff when cuddling with your furry friend but how much fluff is too much? If you find yourself worrying about health risks, here are some tips to help your dog lose weight the safe way. Step 1: Limit calories and fat Good news, changing your dog’s diet isn’t as hard as changing yours. Controlling calories and fat in their food is key to maintaining a healthy weight. When looking for a new diet look for digestible protein to prevent lean muscle loss, lower calories from fat, and high fiber to help with weight loss. It’s a good idea to check with your veterinarian to make sure the one you pick is the right fit. Make sure to ease in the new diet and to feed your dog two to four small, measured portions a day. Step 2: Look for additives While looking for a new puppy diet, try finding some with added benefits. Added L-carnitine helps with their metabolism and building lean muscle mass so they can lose weight the right way. Keep your puppy active by keeping their joints healthy with added glucosamine and chondroitin. Once you find a diet that meets all of your dogs needs they will have the energy to get up and go outside to play. Step 3: Healthier rewards T-R-E-A-T is most likely what makes those ears perk up and tail wag, and you may be guilty of treating them every time they give you those cute puppy eyes. No worries, you can keep treating your prince or princess, but there

are healthier options. Affection is by far the best reward but if you still want to spoil them make sure the treats contain the right nutrients. Your pup will still be excited for smaller-sized treats that are low in calories and fat, such as mini-treats or 100% meat treats. Rewards are about the interaction, making them feel good so a change in treats won’t make them any less excited. Make sure to ask your dog to do something such as a trick before giving them a treat so they are rewarded for staying active. Step 4: More play dates While diet is the basis of losing weight and staying healthy, it can’t do all of the work. Keeping your puppy active is the best way to keep them having fun while losing weight. If you have a smaller friend try finding some squeaky toys that they like to run around the house with. If your dog is bigger, find toys that they love running back to you and playing tugof-war with. Toys with treats inside of them are great ways to keep your little one hustling for their health. Stuff the toys with healthy treats or even apples and carrots. Step 5: Get healthy together Your dog isn’t the only one who needs play time. Activity decreases calories and increasing muscle. If you find yourself wanting to stay healthy too, develop workouts that you both enjoy so you can motivate each other. Hiking, swimming, jogging, or walking are some activities you can do together. It’s important to always have fun while trying to lose weight and what better way to have fun than bonding with your best friend? 30 minutes of activity a day will give you and your dog something to look forward to.

ADVANCED KIDS CARE Pediatrics

Prior to opening ADVANCED KIDS CARE, our Pediatricians worked in several Orlando &Tampaarea children’s hospitals where they recognized a growing need for improved, readily- available, specialized and up-to-date pediatric services, especially on an urgent care and after-hours basis. Coincidentally, during the same period, several parents in our community often came to us for advice regarding their child’s healthcare needs. In similar discussions, many parents also expressed an interest in personalized healthcare, tailored to their needs, and busy lifestyles. It was through these conversations with friends & neighbors that we realized the growing desire for improvement in the healthcare system for kids, one that offered more convenient & on-demand delivery of services, but more importantly, an improvement in the quality of pediatric care being practiced. Our team recognized that the higher level of Pediatric training and experience we had acquired, specifically in Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatric Cardiology, would enable us to offer a more comprehensive, skilled level of outpatient pediatric care than available in the greater Orlando area. The result became ADVANCED KIDS CARE.

Our team of physicians understand the very unique and important role Pediatricians play in your child’s life. It is this understanding that developed our mission - to provide exceptional medical care to our pediatric patients from specialty trained physicians who will provide the highest quality and most comprehensive evaluation of your child in our state of the art facility. Because we know your time is valuable, we will be offering on-line registration, scheduling and payment. In order to accommodate the growing desire for personalized and on-demand pediatric care, our team of physicians will provide a concierge service. At ADVANCED KIDS CARE, our promise to you is that we will strive each day in becoming partners with our parents, fostering an environment where their voices are respected, to make our patients feel safe and secure, treat our patients quickly & effectively, and to promote and build a community and foundation to help raise our children. I wake up every day blessed to have another day. I discovered that it is fascinating and encouraging to see improvement from week to week, no matter how small they are, to make a difference in people’s lives, to adjust my focus from one of self to what can I do today to make somebody else’s life better. I performed thousands of surgical operations for my patients and any time I run into them I love seeing the end results! We recognize that we can talk on and on about the distinctions we’ve been awarded, the services we offer, and the experience of the physicians working in our halls. But only by hearing the stories of those just like you, folks who arrived at our doors anxious or scared and went home healed, can you truly begin to understand who we are, and what we strive for. Everyday is a great day because we have the opportunity to give someone a second chance at living. WHAT SETS HIM APART: Our care and concern for our patients go far beyond just their orthopaedic health; at all times, we see our patients as valued members of our extended family. We make it our goal to understand our patients’ concerns, experiences, health, and struggle so that we are able to meet and exceed their expectations. Dr. Ryan Mendro earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Florida, his Doctor of Dental Surgery at Columbia University, and his Masters of Science and Certificate in Periodontics also at the University of Florida. Dr. Lucia Roca Mendro received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Francisco Marroquin University, her Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Connecticut, and completed her Periodontics residency and received her Master of Dental Science at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Both doctors are Diplomates of the American Board of Periodontology, and are active members of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, and Florida Association of Periodontists. At Precision Periodontics and Dental Implants, the team is committed to providing the latest technology, such as LANAP, Laser Assisted Periodontal Treatment, a specialized treatment for gum disease. Additionally, both doctors provide the Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST), a revolutionary alternative to conventional gum grafting for the treatment of receding gums. Both procedures are minimally invasive and do not require the use of any scalpels or stitches. Additionally, Dr. Ryan L. Mendro and Dr. Lucia Roca Mendro use computed tomography, or 3D scan technology. This technology can allow for the removal of hopeless teeth with the simultaneous placement of dental implants (tooth root replacements). An artificial full set of teeth can be made and attached to the dental implants, which provides an instant and permanent hold that eliminates the risk of looseness or slipping associated with traditional dentures. Sometimes this entire procedure can be performed in just a single day! These implant-supported teeth are designed to look, feel and function just like regular teeth. Treating your gum disease, receding gums and replacing your missing teeth has never been easier! In their spare time the doctors enjoy cooking, working out, outdoor activities and spending time together and with their son Matteo and French bulldog, Maurice.

Dr. Jason Pirozzolo Director of Sports Medicine and Trauma Dr. Jason Pirozzolo is the Director of Sports Medicine and Trauma at Orlando Hand Surgery Associates where he specializes in cutting edge non-surgical orthopedic treatment options. “Historically, we have focused on upper extremely orthopedic problems, specifically involving the shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hands,” says Dr. Pirozzolo. “With new regenerative treatment options now available, we have expanded our services to include stem cell and platelet rich plasma injections to all areas of the body.” Dr. Pirozzolo completed his internship and residency at Duke University, and fellowship at the Ohio State University where he participated as one of the team physicians at both institutions. While in residency, he received his certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Currently, he is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Florida State University and serves on the Board of Governors at the Florida Medical Association. He is also an elected member of the Florida Delegation to the American Medical Association. “What separates Orlando Hand Surgery Associates from other practices is how our physicians work closely together in order to provide the individualized care a patient needs,” says Dr. Pirozzolo. “I am honored to work with three of the best surgeons in the southeast. We have Dr. Brian White and Dr. George White, both nationally respected microvascular surgeons specializing in shoulders to hands. They are very well complemented by Dr. Anup Patel, who is a Yale and NYU trained plastic surgeon.” Dr. Pirozzolo is also the President of the American Regenerative Medicine Society which is largely focused on research and development of new cost-effective non-surgical stem cell and platelet rich plasma treatments that will ultimately help his Central Florida patients, and his patients from around the world. “Being on the forefront of treatment options that can potentially postpone a large knee replacement, shoulder replacement, or a wrist fusion is very exciting. These regenerative modalities can help our patients live life pain-free on their own terms, by not backing them into a pre-set treatment algorithm directing patients to the premature joint prostheses or salvage procedure.” In addition to medicine, Dr. Pirozzolo is also a FAA certified pilot and flies everything from helicopters to jets. In fact, every year since 2009, he has flown his airplane to Tallahassee during session where he is privileged to be in the chamber of the House of Representatives to serve on the physician for our elected State legislators and their staff.

DR. ARCHANA SHAH Infectious Disease Dr. Shah founded Premier Infectious Disease Care in Winter Park in 2008. Over several years, three physicians have joined the practice and helped improve our outreach. Dr. Shah has been affiliated with Winter Park Memorial Hospital for over 12 years, but with the help of the additional physicians, the practice has expanded to cover additional campuses of Florida Hospital (Orlando and East) and Oviedo Medical Center. She and Premier Infectious Disease Care would like to acknowledge the support of the community and her colleagues. She has been blessed to work with a wonderful staff as well as the many nurses, physicians, and caregivers in the region. Perhaps due to her collaborative temperament, she has been named Best/Top Doc in the Central Florida area for several consecutive years. Her inspiration and drive to study and practice medicine has its roots taking care of her chronically ill grandmother. If the minutiae of practicing medicine ebb her joy of being a caregiver, she reflects upon her grandmother’s ordeal and recalibrates. She emigrated to the United States in 1994 where she continued her training. After completing her residency at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey, she joined the Infectious Disease fellowship program at University Hospital (UMDNJ) in Newark, NJ. Training at a large urban Level I trauma center reinforced her love for medicine as well as understanding that you treat patients not just the illness or disease. Dr. Shah’s daughter is about to enter high school and her son just completed his first year of college. This portends her becoming an empty nester in a few years. In her precious spare time, she enjoys Bollywood dancing, travelling, and shopping.

At his Hillcrest facility, nestled in the beautiful, historic district of Eola Heights, Dr. Spence limits his consultation hours to a smaller number of patients to allow for exclusive personalized attention, the outcome of which, he believes, is a direct reflection of the time spent in planning. Dr. Spence believes one chooses the medical profession as an avenue to making a difference and impacting someone’s life in a positive and empowering way. His commitment and passion are reflected in the following testimonial. “I started going to Dr. Spence over 10 years ago. During this time, I have had multiple and various procedures done by Dr. Spence and his staff. Dr. Spence takes a personal interest in his patients and truly analyzes what is best for you to get the results you desire. He takes the time to discuss your goals and the best way to achieve them. He makes you feel like you’re the only person he has to take care of that day, when that is never the case. Everyone that works for Dr. Spence, whether they are a surgical nurse or the person making appointments, is kind, caring and, like him, show a personal interest in your care.” ……D.S. Orlando

DINING ‘N STYLE

A Masterpiece Dining Experience Capa at Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort By Jonathan Friese As soon as the opulent mirrored elevator doors opened up on the 17th floor of the Four Seasons Resort, my wife and I were greeted with the vibrant entrance of Capa, which boasts a striking palette of black, grey and crimson, inspired by the Basque culture, an area of northwest Spain and southwest France. A gorgeous red ceiling art piece by Netherlands based artist Peter Gentenaar flowed above the restaurant’s ceiling like a matador’s muleta leading us inside. The centerpiece of Capa is a dramatic open kitchen complete with lively cooks, dancing flames and heavenly aromas. To say the rooftop view from Capa is breathtaking would be an understatement. The venue’s high ceilings, wall-to-wall windows and spacious terrace provide unrivaled and truly magical vistas of Walt Disney World, spanning from one side of the horizon to the other. Absolutely incredible. Upon being seated at our cozy, window-facing booth, we were graciously welcomed by our server Kevin, who expertly guided us through the eclectic menu as well as the highly visual iPad-based cocktail and wine menu. We began the evening with some cocktails and a selection of appetizers. My wife enjoyed the Fresa Jardin, a pleasantly refreshing ice cold Belvedere vodka-based cocktail with a strawberry flavor and a hint of basil. I had the Hurricane in the Gulf, which was a delicious blend of Myer’s dark rum, butter-washed rum

with passion fruit and grenadine, served in a frost-covered glass. Before I could take my second sip, my wife snuck a quick sip of my drink and liked it so much that she ordered one for herself.

the lobster at Capa was one of the most meatfilled and flavorful that she’s ever had.

Our appetizer sampling consisted of the chef ’s selection of artisanal cheeses paired with a succulent honeycomb, freshly baked flatbread, delicious dates and three savory croquetas served with a delightfully mild red pepper sauce.

On my side of the table, I was loving the tender 12oz Prime Bone-in Filet that was cooked to absolute perfection. This was accompanied by a side of the patatas, which were pureed Yukon Gold potatoes mixed with brown butter and seasoning. The patatas blended with the filet cut perfectly and served as one of the best steak sauces that I’ve ever had.

After enjoying our appetizers, Chef Gabriel Massip introduced himself to us and offered a deeper insight into his culinary creations, which we found fascinating and enjoyed thoroughly. At this point, Kevin freshened up our beverages and suggested that we experience the Magic Kingdom fireworks on the balcony while the final touches were put on our entrees.

It was almost time to think about heading home when we were presented with a delectable, chef inspired dessert. It was a scoop of red pepperinfused chocolate ice-cream with a side of sugar and cinnamon coated churros. The juxtaposition of the pepper and the sweetness of the chocolate made for an amazing dance of flavor on our palates. Very unique and very good.

The view of the Disney fireworks was absolutely inspiring. With each explosion the night sky lit up with a brilliant, world class display that visitors travel vast distances to enjoy. My wife and I felt fortunate to be residents of Central Florida and grateful to be able to enjoy this type of experience locally at Capa.

Completely impressed at the first class, date night that Capa provided, we headed back through the mirrored Four Seasons’ elevator doors, satiated and vowing that we’d soon return to enjoy another magical evening.

As soon as we returned from the balcony, our entrees were presented. My wife had the 1.25lb Maine Lobster with a side of asparagus served with lemon truffle sauce. She has enjoyed plenty of top notch lobsters in the past, as my family lives in Rockland, Maine, but she remarked that

THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH just got a little happier...booze!!

Summer heat, big crowds, screaming kids… Have you been holding off your family theme park vacation? Magical months are among us, and it’s time to quench your thirst. Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and SeaWorld have the perfect solutions to making your vacation cool, relaxing, and enjoyable. The happiest place on Earth just got a little happier. Epcot has always been known for being able to drink around the world, but unfortunately Cinderella’s castle was never included, until now. Magic Kingdom has been slowly introducing alcohol into the park since 2012, when they began serving adult beverages at Be Our Guest, a Beauty and the Beastthemed fine-dining restaurant. In 2016 a few more park restaurants introduced alcohol, but recently Magic Kingdom has decided to spread the fun to every sit-down restaurant in the park. The Crystal Palace and the Plaza Restaurant were the last of the

booze-free standing restaurants. It’s been a long journey, but Disney’s Prohibition era has finally come to a lift. Dreams do come true. Theme parks and booze, what sounds better than that? Free booze. SeaWorld is here to help you feel like you’re actually on a summer vacation. This summer, guests are now offered two 7-ounce beers per visit for free. At Mama’s Preztel Kitchen Patio a rotating variation of beer available will include Miller Light, Bud Light, Yuengling, Corona, M.I.A. 305, Founders All Day IPA, Shock Top, and SeaWorld’s own Mako Red Ale. This current offer is available until September 2. If you still need a refresher after a long morning in the park, Happy Hour at Flamecraft Bar and Sharks Underwater Grill Bar has you covered. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., both locations will offer buy one, get one free on all drinks, which include domestic and craft beer, and mixed drinks.

“Top-shelf live jazz and blues — nightly — set the tone for the Vines Grille & Wine Bar experience, creating atmosphere that speaks to romance, relaxation, sophistication and, if you take advantage of the stellar wine selection a modicum of inebriation. Live music starts every night at seven, marking the end of happy hour and the beginning of the dinner hour (Vines is also an upscale dining venue and wine shop). Let staffers steer you toward the perfect drink selection. Music plays in the bar, but an open layout lets everyone enjoy the vibe, whether the band is playing hot or cool.” USA TODAY - 10 BEST
