P aradise: Found
(And It’s Much More Accessible Than You’d Think) By: Alexa Cawley Read more at: StyleToMe.com
> In order to see the world’s best views, breath the purest air, and swim in the most pristine waters, you have to schlep through multiple airports, attempt communication in a language you don’t know, all to finally arrive on vacation totally stressed out. Sound familiar? We’ve got news for you. We just took the most exquisite vacation making us feel like we were on the other side of the world, however, we weren’t that far from home at all. Just a short (and gorgeous) three and a half hour plane-ride away, the United States Virgin Islands have the best of both worlds. St. Thomas possesses the glamour and allure of an exclusive international vacation, but is so easily accessible from Orlando. Best of all, because the Virgins Islands are a part of the United States, there’s no new language to learn or laws to memorize. Consequently you feel perfectly at ease, close to home, and completely relaxed. Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort has just undergone an elaborate renovation yielding amazing results. From the moment you touch down in St. Thomas you can be confident that this will be one of the best vacations you could possibly take. Before
you even check in, the amazing beach cliff views and airy, open lobby will captivate and excite you for the days to come. The courteous staff will guide you to your newly updated bedroom with a perfectly de-stressing color scheme. Oh, and did we mention that the balcony door opens to an immaculate view of the indigo Ocean, St. Thomas mansions, and cinematic sunset? Having recently completed a $48 million dollar renovation and restoration, the Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Beach Resort welcomes guests to a brand new US Virgin Island hotel experience. As part of the renovation, Frenchman’s Resort added state of the art amenities, including the serenely named “Lazule Sea Spa and Salon,” a modern fitness center, and various restaurants. While at Lazule, we were treated with the utmost respect and care by the professional and experienced staff. This luxurious spa features 8 new treatment rooms and 3 poolside cabanas, full service hair & nail salon, steam room, and a private spa pool. Services offered range from Swedish massage, hot stone massage, body wraps and facials, to couples massages and plunge pools. Could it get any better? During our Swedish massage

we learned that our masseuse was actually trained in Sweden! An authentic touch to a wonderful experience. At Frenchman’s Reef the dining options are endless. Whether you feel like grabbing a light and healthy avocado and crab salad at casual Coco Joe’s on the beach, or enjoying the inimitable house veggie burger at the Sunset Grille, one thing is certain - you can bet on being treated with kindness and efficiency, and you can certainly count on the meal to have that exclusive and delicious Caribbean taste. If nothing else, Frenchman’s Resort can be unabashedly proud of Havana Blue, their award-winning and sophisticated restaurant that effortlessly captures the placid demeanor of the Caribbean, elegance of New York, and seductiveness of Latin America. If you’re so inclined to leave the resort, a short taxi ride can be taken to the luxurious Yacht Haven Grande where you can spend the evening shopping at the upscale boutiques, and then relax and unwind at delectable Grande Cru while watching the spectacular yachts go by. If you or your fellow travelers are looking for more than the typical wine, dine, and lounge vacation, you’re in luck. St. Thomas is a very short ferry ride to fellow USVI St. John. St. John is a smaller and less inhabited island that is endowed with a majority of untouched national park, and the cliffs make for perfect hiking. While in St. John for the day, we were lucky enough to hike the magnificent Reef Bay Trail. Named “one of the Caribbean’s ten best hikes,” this trail has it all. From the historic ruins of an abandoned sugar mill and ancient Taino rock carvings called “petroglyphs”, to the secluded beach and 937ft. uphill trek, there truly is something to appease every adventurer. Also, there is an entire staff at the new Adventure Center to suit the needs for your whole crew. So worry not, if you’re traveling with young ones that are less than keen on laying on the resort-provided beach chairs all day, there is a plethora of activities to tire everyone out. There are multiple safaris, sunset sails, snorkeling trips, and combinations as well. If you’re with an adult group, there are golf trips, historic cruises, and dinner sails with expertly crafted cocktails along with breathtaking sunset views. An exclusive yacht rental is also available for the most private clientele. And speaking of exclusive, Frenchman’s Reef

is a pioneer in being the only place in the world to occupy clear kayaks with custom LED lights, allowing for the most amazing observances of sea urchins, sting rays, and turtles at sundown in their natural habitat. This newly renovated resort has everything you can ask for whether you’re on a family getaway or an adult weekend rendezvous. The food is exquisite, the drinks are suitable for a cocktail aficionado, and the scenes are out of this world. This is the ultimate resort for vacationers looking to be pampered, whilst seeking privacy and exclusivity. The staff is more than happy to assist any need you might incur, although with a resort this well thought-out, it is unlikely you will run into any problem at all.

Bizarre Beauty
By: Jessica Sanchez Read more at: StyleToMe.com
styletome.com
> In society’s never-ending quest for perfection there is very little that people WON’T try in the name of beauty.Whether it’s stretching the neck in giraffe-life fashion with metal rings, using strychnine to cure baldness, or using bromine mannite to redden the lips, history is rife with crazy rituals that do more to highlight mankind’s stupidity than beauty. In fact, I bet if scientists were able to get inside the thoughts of the very first eukaryotic organism that ever appeared on Earth billions and billions of years ago they’d find that its need to keep
evolving and changing was spurred by nothing more than a desperate desire to look prettier than all the other organisms. The following trends are the latest bizarre attempts to tap into your wallet by appealing to your vanity, but then again are they any more odd than gluing tiny lash-shaped hairs to your eyelid? Or pouring hot wax “down there” and ripping out the hair by the root? Try explaining those to an American woman back in, say, 1905 and she’d likely recoil in horror at the kind of barbaric torture
Health & Beauty
But now I’ve learned that people are actually flocking (ha!) to have this done. On purpose! However, they don’t use seagull poop they use nightingale poop. When you’re charging between $185 and $225 for a facial it just sounds classier to say nightingale. The idea actually originated in Japan centuries ago and was used by geishas to remove their thick, white lead-based make-up while still maintaining their porcelain complexion. Nowadays the nightingale excrement is dehydrated into a powder and mixed with rice bran and water to create a cream that “contains high concentrations of urea and guanine” which are said to break down dead skin cells and exfoliate the face. I think apricot scrub does the same thing as well. Just saying. Placenta Facials - If bird poop isn’t gross enough for you perhaps you should try the placenta of a human being. I’d also love to hear how you explain to your girlfriends that you enjoy massaging afterbirth into your face. According to an article on CNN. com the placenta is obtained from Russian maternity wards and treated to prevent disease transmission before it is shipped to spas around the world. Some health experts tout it’s anti-aging, acne-fighting power due to the fact that placenta is basically a human broth of purified tissue rife with hormones, protein and a host of other nutrients that can stimulate cell growth and leave your skin feeling as soft as, well, a baby’s behind.
women will have to endure in the future. So who knows, maybe these beauty trends will soon become typical rituals that can be found at any spa or drug store. Or maybe we’ll just invent newer, grosser, more insane ways to beautify ourselves that will make these ones seem not half bad. Bird-Poop Facials - Whenever there are too many seagulls flying around at the beach I always get nervous that one of them will let loose and poop on me, leaving me frantically wiping nasty white fecal matter off my face.
Snake Massage - One wonders exactly how relaxing it would be to have half a dozen scaly, slithering, legless spawns of Satan gliding along your neck and prowling stealthily down your back, flicking their evillooking forked tongues as they creep their way to your ankles and back up again. I mean, seriously, just picture it for a moment and try to relax, because that’s what a spa in northern Israel says a snake massage does: helps you relax and eases tension. Perhaps they rely on most of their customers to faint right away. Allegedly the fluid movements of larger - nonvenomous - snakes produce a calming, kneading sensation, while smaller garden varieties provide gentle caresses. I hear the tigers give great facials as well. Fish Pedicures - You’ve probably seen or heard of this one where you basically soak your feet in a tub of small flesh-eating fish called garra rufa. These “doctor fish”

”
supposedly only nibble at gross bits of dead skin flakes, leaving behind nice, smooth skin on your feet and ankles. It’s actually a little more barbaric than that. The toothless fish don’t necessarily eat the dead skin, they pick at it and slough it off because they’re foraging for food, which means they have to be at the point of starvation when you soak your feet in their tub in order for them to really give you a nice finish. Even if you don’t think fish have feelings it still sounds a little sad. However Florida banned fish pedicures in 2009 because the fish can’t be sanitized after each pedicure, which violates sanitary regulations. So just use a damn loofah. Gold Facials - If you’ve grown bored of running $100 bills through a paper shredder then there’s another way to be obnoxious: a 24-carat gold facial. UMO, a high-end Japanese skin care company, has created technology that can dissolve gold into a metallic sheet of liquid that can be patted onto your face like a mask. The liquid gold is said to feel like feathers as it dries into warm flakes that are then rinsed way. So you’re literally throwing gold down the drain at this point, but the treatment is said to lift and firm the skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, which is pretty much what every beauty treatment on the shelf at Walgreens claims to do as well. Bull-Sperm Hair Treatment - I scoured the Internet trying to pinpoint exactly HOW someone discovered that lathering your hair with the semen of an organically raised Angus bull gave it a thick, lustrous shine but I couldn’t find anything. I mean, I really, really wanted to know the backstory here, but the owner of Hari’s salon in London will only say that he searched for a product with a lot of protein and found it in bull sperm. End of story. Either way the bullsperm treatment - touted as the “Viagra for hair” - is said to deeply penetrate (I swear he used those exact words) each hair follicle, leaving customers with moisturized, nourished, shiny locks for several weeks. Followed by a vague sense of shame.<

By: Jessica Sanchez Read more at: StyleToMe.com 3rd Annual Orlando Chili Cook-Off in Baldwin Park - Photo by Brion Price
> For those seeking a one-of-a-kind fashion and beauty experience, on March 3rd the first annual Fashion Quest sent participants on a treasure hunt through Orlando. Those who signed up received online clues the day of the event that - if deciphered correctly - directed them to locally owned boutiques. At each location they were treated to prizes and store specials on clothes and jewelry along with fashion and beauty tips from the experts. It all ended with a party at Urban Think where everyone got to ooh and ahh in positive validation of a job well-done and a day wellspent. It was such a success that Fashion Quest will likely return next year. For those who didn’t spend their day analyzing fashion codes, March 3rd was also the 3rd annual Orlando Chili Cook-Off in Baldwin Park. It was a gas! Ha! (stop rolling your eyes) 10,000 chili lovers made their way to Blue Jacket Park where more than 70 cooks offered samples of delectable homemade chili ranging from really hot to really, really hot, kind of like how you’d describe the seasons in Florida. The event raised more than $28,000 for four deserving charities, which included: Special Olympics Florida, the Wounded Warrior Project, A Gift For Teaching and the Lone Sailor Memorial. It appears that good ole fashion fun is still alive and well in a day and age where Disney

World and Universal Orlando have set a tough standard in high-tech entertainment. On March 6th the Central Florida Fair celebrated 100 years of affordable family fun. Perhaps it’s tradition that has kept it popular all these years. More than 250,000 people made it out that week to see the livestock shows, take a gamble on the fair rides, and risk the heartburn that comes from a diet of corn dogs, fried Oreos and turkey legs. Yay! It was a memorable throwback to the days of Ferris wheels and ring tosses. Many people opened their hearts and their wallets the evening of March 10th at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios. That’s where the American Heart Association kicked off an elegant celebration of life with the Heart Ball. Every year party planners promise and deliver a lavish night of exquisite cuisine and swanky entertainment, bringing out the community’s philanthropic leaders with a heart of gold. Nationwide, the Heart Ball campaign raises more than $50 million every year, funding research and programs that lead to life-saving medical breakthroughs. Another highly anticipated event took place March 10th, Central Florida’s 19th Annual Gala: An Evening at the Palace. This amazing charity celebrates all children with special needs who have been touched by the United Cerebral Palsy of Central Florida in the last 56 years. Actor Dan Aykroyd and actress
Cheryl Hines hosted an impressive party of more than 800 guests at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa. Everyone was treated to world-class entertainment with Blues Brothers flair and a fabulous four-course, gourmet meal. Restoring Balance By: Gary C. Sain President and CEO, Visit Orlando Read more at: StyleToMe.com
> Last issue, I wrote about how adults need a “spring break” just as much as the kids, and maybe even more. Just as necessary is taking some time for ourselves to relax, exercise or contemplate what’s really important to us. I think we all could use more opportunities to focus on our body and soul — the type of activities that allow you to recharge and refresh while also melting any existing tensions away. A spa experience comes to mind as the perfect solution to help restore balance to our daily lives and hectic schedules.
boutiques, there’s a spa experience here for everyone. Speaking of big names, you can’t go wrong trying either the Mandara Spa at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel or the Mandara Spa at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. Both feature Balinese-inspired treatments and massages within a tranquil setting. Or plan an afternoon at the Spa by Guerlain at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando. This 24,000-square-foot facility includes 22 indoor rooms and an outdoor treatment area. Book one of the day-spa packages for the ultimate in pampered elegance.

Of course, there are other spas located at many of Orlando’s luxury hotels. The Spa at Rosen Shingle Creek was developed in harmony with its natural surroundings, the headwaters of the Florida Everglades. So it makes sense that its signature treatments — like Everglades Scrub and Body Wrap and the Orange Blossom Facial with Native Tea Peel — draw on the restorative powers of the area’s indigenous fauna incorporating maple, citrus and cedar scents. Hypnotic Warm Stone Massage, where basalt stones radiate heat deep inside muscles. Yet sometimes a more intimate atmosphere is what is needed to relax. In that case, I would suggest a boutique spa for a more personal approach. The Urban Spa at the EO Inn in Thornton Park provides a variety of treatments — including the Green Coffee Slimming Body Wrap and the Eo Signature Plantomer Facial — and is right across the street from Lake Eola in downtown Orlando. For a sustainable retreat, head to the Little Green Spa in Winter Park where holistic, organic care and massages provide a peaceful escape. Or a trip to the Poseidon Spa at the Grand Bohemian Hotel might be the way to go. From intimate treatment rooms to divine rituals, the spa offers an array of uniquely customized packages. Whatever spa you decide to visit, you’ll walk away feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. Our staff is knowledgeable, courteous and compassionate and our patients are treated with dignity and respect. We strive for excellence. Therefore, our practice is devoted to delivering the best quality care to our patients, whether it may be lifesaving surgery or cosmetic vein care. Our goal is to exceed expectations and leave a lasting impression. Dr. Garnette’s professional background, training and commitment to his patients are all outstanding, but what sets him apart is his surgical skill, dedication to patient care, and his ability to understand and relate to patients. He is motivated by his commitment to achieve the best possible results for his patients. Vascular surgery is a very complex specialty, and often, patients are very sick. Dr. Garnette believes it is critical, as a surgeon, to keep evolving and always seeking to improve. This is a remarkably impressive goal, but such lofty standards are second nature to this accomplished surgeon. “I am driven by my quest for excellence and my desire to achieve perfection,” says Dr. Garnette, “it is both my blessing and my curse.” <

Dr. Andrew Weil, a well-known advocate of the holistic lifestyle, has created a food pyramid proven to reduce the risk of anti-inflammatory disease when followed properly. Dr. Weil recommends that fruits and vegetables become the basis of one’s diet, with 3-5 servings of each per day. He also recommends making green tea a daily habit, getting an ample dose of healthy fats from foods such as avocados, almonds, and flax seeds, eating whole soy foods such as tempeh, tofu, and edamame, and incorporating healthy spices such as turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon into one’s meals. > Holistic health and healing has been the subject of controversy for quite some time. Whether you’re against it, completely immersed in the lifestyle, or somewhere in between, it seems everyone has an opinion on the best way to care for your body and soul. Holistic health is the belief that your psychological, physical, and social well-being are connected, and depend on how you nurture your body. This includes eating unprocessed foods (organic when possible), limiting prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and engaging frequently in exercise and meditation.
Following a holistic eating regimen is hardly as difficult as it sounds. It doesn’t take a genius to glance around your corner supermarket and realize there are too many preservatives and chemicals found in our foods. These chemicals will do nothing but harm your body. Refined sugars make you feel sluggish and weigh you down within hours.

holistic lifestyle. For example, many would think that garlic is simply something that enhances a meal and worsens one’s breath. But did you know that many prominent scientists, including Louis Pasteur, the inventor of pasteurized milk, have regarded raw garlic as a natural antibiotic? Antibiotic resistance is a new phenomenon that occurs when our bodies have consumed too many prescription drugs over the years, rendering us resistant to the drug’s benefits. However, because garlic is a naturally occurring antibacterial, your body will never build up a resistance. It is an antiviral as well as an antibiotic, making it the knight in shining armor to our over-prescribed bodies. The body and mind impact each other more than most people think. It is important to follow not just a diet, but a lifestyle that will nourish your body and soul, and help you feel your best. Every single day, more and more people are choosing to live a holistic lifestyle, and perhaps for good reason. <

ing tissue unharmed. The result is a gradual and visibly noticeable reduction in the thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer treated.
Clinical trials consistently demonstrated a 22-25% reduction of fat in the area(s) treated with just one treatment and an even greater reduction in patients who received multiple treatments.
How long does it take?
CoolSculpting is the first FDA approved, non-invasive procedure clinically proven to permanently reduce stubborn areas of unwanted fat. Now, thanks to this amazing technology, it is possible to get rid of love handles, a muffin top, or other unwanted bulges naturally and safely without the need for more invasive surgery such as liposuction.
Each CoolSculpting treatment takes just one hour. However, many people do opt to treat multiple areas on the same day. In this case, one hour would be required per treatment area.
How soon will I notice results? Many patients report seeing changes in as little as 4 weeks. However, maximum results can be expected after 10 weeks.
Can I return to normal activities immediately?
How does it work?
For more information on CoolSculpting or to find a physician in your area, please visit coolsculpting.com
Yes! Since CoolScultping is completely non-invasive you can resume normal activities immediately.
Cool Sculpting utilizes a process known as Cryolipolysis. Cryolipolysis is the result of a groundbreaking discovery by two Harvard University Dermatologists who discovered that when fat cells are exposed to extreme cold, a process of natural removal is triggered. knowledge that they’ve gone under the knife because there is no other explanation for how they look; it’s as plain as, well, the nose on their face. So let’s take a look at the good, the bad and the ugly and see which celebrities are ageing gracefully in 2012, and which ones treat plastic surgery like potato chips: they can’t have just one.
Jennifer Aniston has been on People magazine’s list of The Most Beautiful since she was 25 years old. That was 18 years ago! She celebrated her 43rd birthday in February. She doesn’t fault plastic surgery but says it’s not for her, attributing her flawless complexion and youthful appearance to laser peels and “state-of-the art” serums, which she doesn’t name.
can see a distinctive transformation from a girl-next-door beauty to a Hollywood seductive sex kitten; some botox, rhinoplasty and perhaps a breast enhancement? She denies it all but either way the real question is, who cares? She looks great.
Megan Fox doesn’t look a day over 26 but that’s probably because she isn’t. Beauty experts say there’s a reason men are compelled to do a Loony Tune double-take (you know, where their eyes pop out, their jaws drop and their tongues roll out in a sloppy drool) when they lay eyes on her and it has just as much to do with cosmetic surgery as good make-up.When you compare photos of her over the past few years you
Priscilla Presley, once the poster child of good looks and glamour is now the protagonist in plastic surgery horror stories. Her natural beauty is hard to see behind a series of botched botox treatments and shoddy cheek implants. The story is that in 2003 Presley, 66, fell victim to a phony Argentinean doctor who injected her with low-grade silicone,
Donatella Versace has certainly tried everything to fight off the ravages of age except, ironically, staying out of the sun. But her leathery
similar to what’s used to lubricate auto parts in his home country. The silicone can stick to tissue and distort the flesh. Like Bruce Jenner, Presley has repeatedly tried to repair the damage with more plastic surgery. Lil Kim seems to put on a new face every time she goes out, but she left home without her eyebrows this last time around. After her appearance on the red carpet of BET’s Rip the Runway 2012 show, critics immediately jumped on the rapper’s rosy cheek implants and puffy lips, which were barely held together by her new nose job. Her change in appearance has been so dramatic over the years that celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn, who hasn’t treated the star, hinted at a “serious body image problem” in an interview with TMZ.
skin pales in comparison to what she’s done to her face. If the Joker had a twin sister this would be it. Her swollen lips have become as trademark as her high-fashion brand of clothing and have earned her a spot on nearly every list of plastic surgery faux pas over the past few years. Scott “Carrot Top” Thompson hasn’t just raised his own eyebrows; the red-haired comedian has everyone lifting an eye at his dramatic appearance. At 47 years old, this Central Florida native (he grew up in Cocoa) is no stranger to “Top 10” lists of scary plastic surgeries, though it has never been proven that he‘s actually gone under the knife. But his severely arched brows, plump lips and waxy smooth skin have become almost as comedic as his stand-up. <

Jocelyn Wildenstein could’ve lived her extravagant lifestyle in cozy obscurity among New York’s social elite had it not been for her ghastly obsession with cosmetic surgery. Now she is famous for lacking the thing money can’t buy: common sense. Known around the world as the “Cat Woman” or “The Bride of Wildenstein,” and in some cases labeled the scariest looking celebrity, her obscene amount of plastic surgery is said to have stemmed from a desperation to stop her millionaire art dealer husband, Alec Wildenstein, from leaving her. He apparently had a love of exotic cats and she thought he would find her more attractive if she looked more “feline.”
Ellen DeGeneres isn’t one of those women who makes it on the “Top 5” of any man’s list, but most people can agree that at 54 years old she looks great. So great that no one can say for certain if she got a face and/or brow lift. Her eyes are still charmingly characterized with the lines that tend to develop on people who are always smiling. If she did get any work done she likely got it over a period of time, allowing fans and critics to grow accustomed to each small change.
:|
Bruce Jenner, the easy-going stepfather of the Kardashians isn‘t so easy on the eyes. He has been fairly open about his cosmetic procedures since his first plastic surgery went wrong in 1984. He decided to fix the errors with - what else - more plastic surgery. These days Jenner, 62, says he’s very happy with the latest results, even though some critics say he looks more like an eerie twin to Mike Meyers from the Halloween movies than the handsome Olympic star he was in the 70’s.

> Getting celebrities to admit to having plastic surgery done is like getting women to admit they go through their significant other’s phone. No one wants to fess up because, in both cases, doing so is a reluctant admission of those small insecurities that people try oh-so-hard to hide. Some celebs do a great job of hiding it; their cosmetic enhancements are like special effects in a movie, you can’t tell if they’re fake. But others are forced to ac-

Perhaps one very impressive attribute of Jessie J is her talent to prosper whether singing Pop music, R&B, Hip-Hop or sending chills to audiences belting out some Soul. Seen at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards singing interludes and anthems between commercials and different awards, Jessie launched herself into the American living room. A physical look composed of deep, expressive eyes; a rich, black bob with rock star-chic bangs; and a pin-up pretty presence, global music fans can’t take their eyes off her enchanting appearance. At just a mere age of 23, she is an absolutely good for the body, good for the soul artist in a truly captivating, classic approach.
Born March 27, 1988 Jessica Ellen Cornish is the youngest of three sisters. Her childhood was completely normal, by her own description, and the ability to thrive for her musical ambitions was her very own. With varying creative talents, Jessie was the only member of the family to sing. By age 17, Jessie achieved the success of creating her first song titled “Big White Room.” The song tells of an experience she had sharing a hospital room with a sick child, who unfortunately lost his life. The ability to recognize raw emotion helped forge the words for an endearing account of that moment. This is a brilliant strategy for success. This gave Jessie even more drive to maintain her momentum.

Once signed to her first label, Jessie spent some time feeling out the industry. Eager to keep the creative juices rolling and keep building upon her artistry, touring with a few wellestablished artists began. Jessie found herself in the company of Macy Gray, Chris Brown, Cyndi Lauper, and previous Don’t Miss the Beat featured artist, Taio Cruz. The talent radiating from every performance she did had the bigger acts taking notice. Her ability to author songs has not faltered and as opportunity would have it, she has written for Chris Brown and co-wrote the fun-loving Miley Cyrus hit “Party in the USA.” It’s safe to say the party is in full swing. Music aside, Jessie has a keen eye for style. Known for her super tall shoes and her ability to achieve intense looks, this fashionable lady keeps you intrigued. Whether it’s a fuchsia cat suit or a completely wild pattern, Jessie’s style is exceptional and eye catching. For the recent Grammys, Jessie was extravagant yet polished, and completely right-on. Wearing an amazingly shiny silver and black Julien Macdonald gown, which caused Jessie to call herself a ‘personal disco ball,’ she turned heads the entire stroll along the red carpet. Impeccable, sophisticated hair and a smart choice of statement earrings rounded out the look for this best dressed nominee. As for the future of this fascinating gal, catch Jessie on ‘The Voice’ UK. Rallying with fellow musicians’ will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, Danny O’Donoghue of The Script, and musical legend Tom Jones. These four will make an excellent team of well-rounded and exceptional ‘performing’ judges. Expect tons of inspiration for the contestants being in this company. Jessie, the sole lady judge will be able to use her honest and lovable appeal to keep the gents in line no doubt, definitely offering her share for the comedic side of judging. It will be no surprise when she guides the contestants along with simple advice that brought her to exactly where she is: be true to who you are. <

Tips for a Successful Homebuilding Experience Read more at: StyleToMe.com
> Hiring a homebuilder is like entering into a short-term marriage. For this partnership to succeed, homebuyers must to do their “homework” when selecting their homebuilder. “I always tell my customers that building a custom home is going to be a 12-month marriage between the builder and the client,” says Custom Home Builder Jorge Ulibarri. “There has to be a good rapport between the client and builder. Above all, there has to be trust,” says Jorge, owner of Cornerstone Custom Construction. Jorge has been in business for 12 years and has designed and built custom and estate homes throughout Florida.
Knowing the right questions to ask a prospective home builder can go a long way in helping find the best fit for the job. Jorge offers the following tips to help homebuyers hire the right builder. Tip #1 - Hire a Home Builder You Can Trust
Custom Home Builder Jorge Ulibarri says trust is the most important criteria in selecting a qualified builder. “The homebuyer needs to feel confident that the builder will perform to the expectations set and be fair.” Jorge advises homebuyers to spend time checking builder references and not just the ones the builder provides. Tip #2 - Beware of Change Orders That Add to Overall Price
Beware of excessive change orders. Prior to signing a contract, the homebuyer should research the products and finishes included in the house. Change orders can increase the sticker price of the home. “Be clear on what’s included to avoid unexpected charges,” says Jorge. Tip #3 - Decide Your Involvement in Selecting the Homebuilding Team
If the homebuyer would like to select a few of his own subcontractors and suppliers, then he should be prepared to invest many hours
in this process. There is a learning curve. Jorge recommends that the homebuyer disclose this to the builder from the beginning. Tip #4 - Understand the Difference Between a Custom Home and a Production Home
A custom home is designed from a blank page and it’s one of a kind. A custom home is designed to suit the lifestyle and tastes of the client. A production home is one built from a group of predesigned homes. With a production home, the client is limited to a handful of options for the features and finishes of the home. It’s very important that the homebuyer understands the difference between the custom builder and the production builder. A custom builder spends hundreds of hours with the client designing and building the home. A production builder makes his money building volume. Tip #5 - Establish a Clear Construction Timeline
It’s important that the homebuyer and the home builder have a clear timeline with specific benchmark dates for work performed. This will alleviate a lot of frustration in the building process. A construction timeline also holds the subcontractors to their deadlines so that their individual work doesn’t delay the home’s completion. For more information go to www. imyourbuilder.com and for affordable design tips, watch Trade Secrets by Jorge at www.youtube.com/user/ jorgeulibarri < Jorge Ulibarri, Custom Builder www.imyourbuilder.com

The Lamborghini Aventador J is a force of nature on wheels – supremely powerful and supremely open. The Aventador J offers its pilot and copilot an utterly indescribable experience of power and dynamics. At the same time, the 515 kW / 700 hp two-seater is a first class technology showcase, combining innovative solutions and brand new materials and demonstrating Automobili Lamborghini’s enormous expertise in carbon fiber technology. The Lamborghini Aventador J is a radically open automobile – exterior and interior meld into each other. The designers and engineers in Sant’Agata Bolognese have not only dispensed entirely with the roof, but also with the front windshield. This requires that drivers of the Aventador J must have the right equipment for driving at top speeds higher than 300 Km/h. This kind of driving at the limit is a highly exclusive experience – the Lamborghini Aventador J is fully functional for road use. It is an absolute one-off: a one-of-a-kind piece of art. “With the Lamborghini Aventador J, we have molded our brand DNA into its most definitive form to date. This automobile is as extreme and as uncompromising as only a Lamborghini can be,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “The new Lamborghini Aventador J is the most radical open supersports car of Lamborghini’s history. Its name comes from our tradition and combines an unconventional design with technology innovation. Nowadays we are confronted with several regulations that we face in the spirit of challenge. The Aventador J is the proof that, despite the rules, Lamborghini will always make people dream, even in the future.” The Design: uncompromisingly Lamborghini
An extreme Aventador obviously needs an equally single-minded design, which goes
without saying at the Centro Stile Lamborghini. Every single model from Sant’Agata Bolognese bears the unique design of the brand. Clear, precise surfaces, as well as sharp, often broken lines are among the unmistakable styling tools. They consistently emphasize the power and enormous presence of these Italian super sports cars. Not one line is ever accidental – the defining principle is always ‘form follows function’. This function is very clearly defined for the Aventador J – explosive dynamics, extreme driving fun, a unique experience. Every kilometer with the Aventador J is extreme fun: something plainly evident from the very first glance. The Aventador: Extremely open, overwhelming power
The Lamborghini Aventador J is a super sports car of positively dramatic singlemindedness and openness. It combines the overwhelming performance of the Lamborghini Aventador with the most intense experience of power and dynamics imaginable in an automobile. The technical basis for the Aventador J is the Aventador LP 700-4, Lamborghini’s new twelve-cylinder model. Presented in 2011, the Aventador has been acclaimed by customers and journalists alike. The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4’s technology package is unique – its structure is based on an innovative monocoque made from carbon fiber reinforced polymers that combines systematic lightweight design with optimum stiffness and safety. The new twelve-cylinder with a displacement of 6.5 liters and 515 kW / 700 hp combines the best in highrevving thrills with mighty pulling power. Its super-fast ISR transmission, permanent all-wheel drive and push-rod suspension combine this potent power with the utmost handling precision.

a red stripe runs from the front hood, between the two wind deflectors, over the dashboard, down the console to the center tunnel and back up between the seat backs, before leaving the interior and heading for the engine cover panel. A unique work of art licensed for the road
However, at the end of the Geneva Motor Show, this sight will be the preserve of just one – the future owner of the Lamborghini Aventador J. There is only one of them, no prototypes and no others for the Lamborghini Museum. The buyer can look forward to a truly unique, street-legal work of art. He will possess the most extreme expression of Lamborghini DNA in existence and a real masterpiece of high technology. But the many other fans of the super sports cars from Sant’ Agata Bolognese can rest assured - the Aventador success story has only just begun. <
“
This kind of driving at the limit is a highly exclusive experience – the Lamborghini Aventador J is fully functional for road use. It is an absolute one-off: a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
”
The outside comes inside
The Aventador J’s exterior and interior forms flow seamlessly into each other. This supersports car turns its inside outward and is as open as it can possibly be. Conversely, the exterior ‘flows’ through the interior –

Selecting a Trustee: Points to Consider By: Tony Keena Read more at: StyleToMe.com
> When creating your estate plans and trusts, you and your attorney will decide who will be the trustee and how much power the trustee will have. Great care is important in selecting your trustees, as these decisions may affect your family and the effectiveness of your planning for generations to come. There may also come a time when you need or want to change your current trustee. This happens for a variety of reasons. Look for the warning signs that may merit a change of trustee by asking yourself the following questions: Has your current trustee merged or been acquired by a larger, less service oriented provider? Is your trust officer unresponsive, slow or provides you with inadequate information? Are your trust investments performing poorly? Are you presented with limited invest- ment alternatives from which to choose?
Do you believe that the individual trustee handling the fiduciary requirements of the trust lacks the necessary legal, tax, and investment skills needed to effectively handle the job? If you answered yes to any of these questions, now might be a good time for you to consider transferring your trust relationship to a new trustee. While the terms of the trust may already be defined, the trustee, in most cases, can be changed. This is true for any revocable trust and most irrevocable trusts. Language written into most irrevocable trust documents permits the grantor (trust creator) or beneficiary to change trustees at any time. It is critical for you to choose a trustee who will carry out the terms of the trust, manage its assets effectively and provide you with the type of personal service you need and expect. Great care is important in selecting your trustees, as these decisions may affect your family and the effectiveness of your planning for many generations to come. The person or institution you name as trustee must be able to handle many administrative and investment-related requirements such as:
• Safekeeping of assets
• Investing
Are your trust statements delivered late?
• Distributing income and/or principal to beneficiaries, as directed in the governing document
Do you frequently find errors in your trust statements?
• Making tax decisions and elections concerning the trust and it tax returns
Are your trustee fees excessive and continuing to increase each year?
styletome.com
• Keeping records of all transactions
• Issuing regular statements of account activity and tax reports to beneficiaries
Your trustee must make many discretionary and complex decisions about matters. An executor may only need to serve for several years while a trustee may need to serve for many decades. Make sure you are making the right choice for you and your family by working with an Independent advisor and a trustee that both have your best interest at heart. < This material represents an assessment of the market environment at a specific point in time and is not intended to be a forecast of future events, or a guarantee of future results. The IRS & Tax Law by Mark L. Horwitz > The IRS contends that the tax system is voluntary however, it prosecutes those who intentionally do not pay taxes.
An IRS criminal investigator is required to identify himself when interviewing a person under criminal investigation and to tell that person of their right to have an attorney present and that anything said may be used in a criminal case.
The Law Offices of Mark L. Horwitz - A Professional Association
While the amount of tax due is part of a criminal investigation, it is not the primary factor. The criminal investigator’s primary purpose is to determine if criminal charges can be filed.
17 E. Pine St. Orlando, FL 32801 407-843-7733 www.mlhorwitzlaw.com mark@mlhorwitzlaw.com
A person often learns of a criminal tax investigation when investigators appear without an appointment for an interview. The
investigators routinely plan the questions after doing a preliminary investigation. Often the unannounced visit will result in an interview without the benefit of having an attorney present. Any mistake or mis-recollection of facts can be interpreted as an intentional false statement which will factor prominently in the government’s contention that the taxpayer acted willfully to evade tax laws. Mistakes or perceived lies increase the chance of criminal prosecution. When an individual speaks with an investigator the following may happen: the person may make a mistake when questioned about events that occurred years previously; the investigator may not understand the answers correctly or may make a mistake in taking
notes; or on rare occasions, an investigator may falsify the report. It is interesting to note that the IRS investigators do not usually record the interviews. While there may be various reasons for not recording an interview, one reason is that at a trial, a defendant will be faced with what the investigator claims was said, rather than what was actually said and recorded. The law recognizes that anyone dealing with the IRS has the right to an attorney. Dealing directly with the IRS without a lawyer experienced in criminal tax matters poses significant risks that can result in the increased likelihood of criminal charges and may increase the risk of losing one’s freedom.<

“Work Hard Play Hard” > In past editions we have featured profiles of some very prominent professionals in our region, concentrating in their areas of specialization, expertise and educational backgrounds. These legal and medical pros spend what must seem like a lifetime (and lots of money) chasing their vocational dreams to earn the titles ‘Attorney’ or ‘Doctor.’ Then, they “pay their dues” toiling for years establishing themselves within the community to earn our trust when we are in need of their services. We found that once all those college education loans are paid off, this group behaves much like the rest of us when it comes to relaxing and enjoying life. We bump into them at the shopping malls and supermarkets, see them jogging around town, working out in the gym and sometimes find ourselves seated next to them in restaurants... all the usual stuff. Then, there are those that sometimes deviate from the routine and enter into the realm of owning a special machine possessing a four-wheeled ensemble of driving excellence, capable of performing publicly, to be visually enjoyed by all. In this issue we introduce you to some very prominent and polished experts in their field along with their individual spirited choice of finely tuned instruments of the road. <

“
By adopting a pet you are saving a precious life, and in return you will learn the true meaning of a ‘best friend.’
”
Many people believe that dogs in shelters are not up to par with dogs purchased from breeders or pet stores. The myth that it is hard to find a good dog and/or a ‘purebred’ at a shelter is just that, A MYTH. Most dogs at animal shelters are not there because they are aggressive, disobedient or sick. Many times people think they can care for a dog and then realize they do not have the time and energy to meet the ‘basic needs’ of a dog and simply ‘throw them away.’ They are still perfectly good dogs. The truth is, dogs from pet stores are often bought from

puppy mills. Unfortunately, many of the dogs at puppy mills are products of bad breeders whom only look to their ‘bottom line’ rather than the health and welfare of the dog. It is heartbreaking to bring home one of these beautiful pups and see them get so sick. We need to put a stop to these puppy mills and hold these blood-sucking breeders accountable. Why are there so many animals in animal shelters? Low adoption rates are one factor driving the high number of animals in shelters, but every year, millions of dogs and cats are relinquished by their owners—or rescued from the streets by animal control officers and private citizens—and brought to animal shelters. These circumstances leave shelters and rescue groups with a large number of animals in need of homes. The HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) estimates that animal shelters care for 6-8 million dogs and cats every year in the United States, of whom approximately 3-4 million are euthanized. To help reduce the number of homeless animals, The HSUS works to promote responsible pet ownership and to reduce pet overpopulation through public education, legislation, and support for sterilization programs. They also help animal shelters directly by providing information and training on topics such as innovative marketing techniques, fundraising, and volunteer programs. Learn more about what The HSUS does for local shelters and rescues at: animalsheltering.org A must-read site for professionals and volunteers involved with local animal shelters, rescues, spay/neuter services, and animal control agencies. By adopting a pet you are saving a precious life, and in return you will learn the true meaning of a ‘best friend.’ Your new best friend will be forever grateful.<

> While taking a trip across the Atlantic to Southern Italy and indulging in wine, food, and culture sounds divine; it’s probably not the most practical or possible thing for many of us in Central Florida. Sure, there are many Italian restaurants here in the city that claim to serve authentic Italian and bring a piece of Italy over for us to experience, but the majority of these miss the boat and end up creating an experience that seems cheesy, over-the-top, and anything but authentic. Fortunately, one brand new restaurant in the Dr. Phillips area has hit the nail on the head as they have set out to create a taste and experience that is incomparable to most and one that oozes authenticity.
Thursday night at 7 and the restaurant had a packed house throughout my meal. Pretty impressive for only being open for three months.
I ventured down to Restaurant Row, an area that is saturated with International cuisine, to try Peperoncino Cucina…the new kid on the block. I liked what I saw and tasted and it would be suffice to say that my experience was memorable and I’ll come back for a repeat performance. It’s as close to the real thing as I think possible considering it’s about 6,000 miles away from the boot-shaped country.
After a full day of work, I was excited to dive into my first dish, which was the Torrette di melanzane; roasted eggplant nestled with cooked Italian ham, Caciocavallo Silano, and basil. The Caciocavallo Silano cheese seemed familiar, but only registered after I was explained that it is a mozzarella that is kept dried as opposed to the typical “wet” way I’m used to. The eggplant paired well with the smokiness of the cheese and sat beautifully on my palette.
Peperoncino takes reservations, which is a nice bonus considering the small space and limited seating. When I was there, it appeared that there were only 8 tables, bar seating and a few tables on the patio (approximately 70 seats). I would recommend calling ahead of time, especially on a weekend night. I chose
The first face I saw when I walked in Peperoncino was that of Executive Chef Barbara Alfano. The left side of the long, skinny restaurant is an out-in-the-open kitchen and the right side is lined with booth/chair tables. This setup allows guests to see their food being prepared and the Chefs engaging in their craft. Only Alfano and Sous Chef Urllich Grude run the kitchen, which simply consists of six burners, a professional oven, and a workspace.
The dish that packed the most punch of the four antipastos was the Sweet piccolini peppers, which were stuffed with goat cheese and ricotta cheese and danced around the platter with Alfano’s secret family pomodoro

“The Best Little Italian Restaurant In Town!” Orlando Style Magazine sauce and then nestled under a blend of mozzarella cheese. The biggest surprise of the night was the insalate course… the “salad” option for all of us non-Italian speakers. I was expecting to see the standard Caesar salad with a “twist,” but was pleasantly surprised to, in fact, see no salad at all. The Frutti di Mare was a harmonizing duet of calamari and shrimp with just a touch of lemon and olive oil. At first bite, the freshness was the first thing I noticed. The ingredients at Peperoncino are imported from the South of Italy and delivered every other day. It was evident that this fish I was enjoying had never seen the inside of a freezer. The flavors were clean and light and the dish shined in simplicity. The second of the two insalate’s was what first appeared to be Carpaccio. The spin, however, on this dish was that the star of this show was actually imported Bresaola. Bresaola is an air-dried, cured beef, aged two-three months. It’s a bit saltier than its raw brother Carpaccio, but in my opinion was much more flavorful when paired with the arugula salad and Parmigiano Reggiano shavings. It was onto the Primi portion of the dinner. First off was a different approach to the classic Fettuccini Alfredo, which was presented as spinach fettuccini served with
fish meatballs. The cream-based sauce did not overwhelm the dish and I didn’t feel like I was gaining 10 lbs. with each bite. My next dish was presented and I was a bit disappointed when I saw spaghetti and meatballs. I thought I was in for another “boring” rendition of the kid’s classic. But when the turkey and beef meatball melted in my mouth, I knew it would be hard to put my fork down. The homemade sauce is kept a family secret for a reason. The dish made me question, “I wonder what the extra something-something was?” One of my favorites was the Lasagna Spaccanapoli. I’m a sucker for a lasagna made with béchamel sauce and the green peas in the secret sauce made me feel like my Italian grandmother made it right there for me… if only I had an Italian grandmother. Throw in the meatballs, sausage, Italian cooked ham, cooked eggs and pecorino cheese and you’ve just experienced a match made in heaven. For all you meat eaters, the menu doesn’t fall short in the Secondi category. I was anticipating the arrival of the Petto d’anatra Ripieno, a duck breast stuffed with ricotta, spinach, golden raisins, and sun-dried tomatoes and then served with creamy polenta and drizzled with a red wine and strawberry sauce. It was tender, and flavorful. I would have preferred mine a bit less rare,
but I’ll take a Chef’s recommendation when it’s given. The showstopper for the night was the Ossobuco. Typically made with veal, this winner was a wine braised pork shank that is marinated for five hours and whose mere size will impress the biggest of eaters. It paired well with the risotto and got some “oohs” and “ahh’s” from the table next to me. Because I am not a wine connoisseur, I left our beverage-of-choice up to our server to choose wines that would marry well with my food choices. He did superb. I tend to prefer the Italian red as opposed to the Napa so I was in the right place. If you still have some room in your tummy, the Tiramisu is heavenly; it’s so rich and fluffy. The only caveat – order the dessert first if you really want one because they only have a limited stash and they go fast! After that meal, Peperoncino just shot to the top of my recommendation list. And next time I want a rustic, authentic Italian meal in a cozy and fun atmosphere, I know where I will be going for a repeat performance. www.peperoncinocucina.com 7988 Via Dellagio Way (Sandlake Rd.), Orlando, FL 32819. Chef’s Profile
> Growing up in her grandmother’s kitchen, a young Barbara Alfano watched with eager eyes as they cooked lunch for the entire family every Sunday of her childhood. This is very common for Italian families, and Alfano’s was no different. It’s this experience and the recipes that fueled her passion for rustic Italian cooking. In 1999, Alfano’s father received a job transfer to Orlando, Florida and the family packed up and left Italy to live in the Sunshine State. Alfano’s passion for food and the Italian culture stayed with her as she made the trip across the pond, but it would take her a few ventures before she would end up as the Executive Chef and Owner of Peperoncino Cucina.

Alfano attended The University of Central Florida where she worked towards degrees in political science and International relations. While she pursued her studies, she also learned the art of hairdressing and worked alongside her mom, Sabina at Una Donna Piú Beauty Salon & Spa in Winter Park. During this time she also got married and had a beautiful daughter. But when Alfano’s marriage didn’t end in forever, she reflected on what her real passion in life had always been…Italian Cooking. So she enrolled herself in Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Orlando and spent two years perfecting cooking techniques and flavors. Her dream was to ultimately open up her own restaurant that would reflect a piece of where she grew up in Calabria, Italy. After searching for the perfect location, Alfano chose the home of Peperoncino in the Dr. Phillips area. It is here that she has been able to create a space, from scratch, where her guests feel like they are in her very own kitchen. The restaurant name came to her immediately and is named after the pepper from
her father’s town and where she grew up. All of the olive oil she uses in her dishes is infused with peperoncinos, and one can definitely taste this added flavor bonus in every creation. In Italy, most cafes are very small and the menu is written on a chalkboard that changes every night. Alfano knew this approach was something she wanted to share here in Florida and therefore, has a menu that changes every night as well. “It is so much fun because I can use what is fresh and in season and make whatever I feel like for that evening. My inspiration from my food comes from 60 percent childhood memories and the rest from technique.” Alfano is a rustic chef who creates her masterpiece. She then relies on Sous Chef Urllich Grude for support and to “make the dishes look pretty.” Peperoncino opened on January 2, 2012 and already has its fair share of regulars along with wait times that have lasted up to two hours on weekend nights. Some might not like this, but Alfano wants her guests to know that it takes time to make each dish fresh and truly authentic…and with only six burners, one professional oven, and only one other chef, patience is necessary, but oh-soworth-it. “I make the dishes in the moment and that is what sets me apart from the rest of the competition. It is a whole different experience.” Alfano doesn’t plan on expanding her less than 15-table establishment anytime soon either. Her original concept was to have a small, family-oriented, authentic restaurant… just like in Italy. She does admit, however, that she plans to open up another location in the future. But in the mean time, she will continue focusing on her debut restaurant.<

> We recently welcomed the N.B.A. All –Star Game to our city at the end of February. With such national events comes many great parties and a certain buzz that you felt the minute you went downtown. Premier Beverage Company put on one of these great parties on Friday evening, the 24th of February. The event, called Jocktails, was held in the old Church Street Exchange. The event spilled from a private lounge area into the massive Exchange with strategically placed bars throughout. It was nice to see the old historic centerpiece of Orlando making a mark in the future of our city. The “Art of Basketball” theme was based around some great N.B.A. art pieces hanging throughout and benefiting the IRIE Foundation, the event went off without a hitch. The crowd continued to grow throughout the night and there were some familiar faces, which is always nice to see. The drinks were flowing and some new flavors were introduced to us as well. Grey Goose has released their Grey Goose Noir Cherry and all I heard
were positive reviews. It had a nice nuance of cherry without being overly sweet or intrusive. It is screaming for some red bull over ice and a chocolate covered cherry. One of my favorite vodkas, Stoli Elit was also being poured at the event. The Elit is a vodka so pure it is almost a shame to touch it with anything but a glass and some ice. As I walked around I noticed a nice trend for an all-purpose sparkler. Rosa Regale was being sipped directly out of the bottle, which has been ‘thee trend’ for a while now and it was nice to see it being implemented with such a nice bottle of juice. The Rosa Regale Brachetto D’acqui is one of those red sparkling wines that can be picked up at the start of an evening or just as comfortably at the end with a nice piece of dark chocolate. We were even graced with the presence of some special bartenders later in the evening. All-Star-inspired beverages were shaken, stirred and poured by retired Miami Heat player, Tim Hardaway, New York Giants player, Antrel Rolle, San Antonio
Spurs player, Matt Bonner, Retired San Antonio Spurs player, Bruce Bowen, Austin Toros, Luke Bonner and Boston Celtics player, Keyon Dooling all in the name of charity. I ended the night the way it should be, sipping on a generous pour of Gentleman Jack by Jack Daniels with a couple of cubes. It was good to see a diverse crowd trying a diverse mix of liquors and wine. The buzz was in the air and everyone seemed to be enjoying the night. So hats off to both Premier Beverage Company and the Irie Foundation for collaborating on such a successful event. The city of Orlando should be proud to have a chance to host such a huge event and I was proud how it was able to pull it off.<
