> Trying to find the perfect gift to celebrate an important occasion or just to say “I thought about you today”? Well, what better permanent remembrance than a trinket to place on one’s neck, ankle or wrist or placed on a finger or pinned to a dress?

Jewels.. Unforgettable & Timeless

By: Cathleen K. Bode Read more at: StyleToMe.com

styletome.com

When looking for that ideal gift for someone special, there seems to be no better time than now to look at a fine piece of jewelry, a timeless gift which fits many celebratory events to include anniversaries, birthdays, holidays and most other special occasions when a dozen roses just will not do. The world also knows that no matter how much jewelry a person might have, there is always room for one more piece, an adornment which seems magical to each recipient, so rather than presenting a gift to a woman and having her like it but really wishing for a bauble of some sort, why not just get to the heart of the issue, bypass the incidentals and apply a little ‘shock therapy’! For the guys, here are some helpful hints when searching for the right piece: First, decide what type of jewelry you are looking for.... something unique or flashy or perhaps something subtle or contemporary. Before making your decision, consider the activities the intended recipient spends her time doing and also what might go best with the structure of her wardrobe design. Will it be

something to wear at all times or only for special occasions? Gold and diamonds or colored gemstones and pearls? If you can envision her wearing it, chances are she will love it. You might also take note of the appropriate birthstone requirement when selecting a piece of jewelry and also recall that favorite color of hers since gemstone earrings, rings and diamond necklaces can be found in numerous styles and colors. If you are still having trouble deciding, don’t forget the wristwatch option, which although sometimes forgotten, can be the most stunning gift of all, since it is probably unexpected. There’s no better way of staying up to date with a busy schedule and at the same time wearing a chic watch to complete and complement one’s outfit. The gals need to take note of this too since this is a high quality gift equally enjoyed by both men and women. After searching through the many options you will find that one perfect piece for that one special person and taking your time to select this personal gift expresses thoughtfulness that no other gift can provide. The unexplainable feelings of joy to know you have found the ultimate gift and seeing that special someone’s eyes light up makes this purchase irreplaceable and priceless. <

Celeb’s Making

A Difference

In Breast Cancer Awareness Cathleen K. Bode Credits: Ashley Sikand Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> As Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off, take the time to acknowledge and honor the strong women and men who are fighting for their lives against breast cancer everyday. The month of October has been dedicated specifically to breast cancer awareness, promoting its health campaign to raise awareness, as well as funds to provide research pertaining to the cause, prevention, and cure of this disease. The America Cancer Society predicts over 207,000 new cases of breast cancer found in women, and approximately 54,000 deaths in 2010 alone. Many celebrities have had the opportunity to impact breast cancer charities each year, by donating, performing, and making special appearances to promote events. Whether they have conquered cancer, or just want to give back to their community, these celebrities deserve to be recognized. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation has attracted many top celebrities, such as Ellen Degeneres, Vanessa Carlton, and Reese Witherspoon. This charity has raised over $1.5 billion since they began in 1982, and it is currently the largest network of breast cancer survivors and activists. Emmy award-winning “Sex & the City” actress, Cynthia Nixon, who battled breast cancer in 2006, is closely affiliated to this charity as well. She is now a cancer survivor, “I want them [women] most to hear me saying that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself,” Nixon says as she is now an ambassador and spokesperson for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Cynthia Nixon

Country singer, Candy Coburn, recently released the song,“Pink Warrior” dedicated to all breast cancer survivors. She is also a celebrity ambassador for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Her song is available on iTunes and proceeds from each download are donated to the foundation. Coburn has also teamed up with Planet Smoothie, launching a $100,000 campaign promoting her song and also the limited time only Pink Promise smoothie. This berry fruit smoothie is filled with high amounts of anti-oxidants, which reduce the formation of harmful molecules in the body. Partial proceeds as well are donated to Susan G. LOOK FABULOUS Sculpting a Youthful Face By George H. Pope, MD, FACS Open any Fall fashion magazine and you’ll see the look celebrities have gone wild about: high, sculpted cheeks and full, (but not too full), luscious lips. While many of the fashions in those magazines are out of reach for everyday people, the youthful, attering face is very achievable and affordable, with little pain and no downtime.

Candy Coburn

in Women’s Health (NPWH), the Breast Cancer Network of Strength and Eli Lilly and Company. Actress Christina Applegate has also set the bar for celebrities when it comes to helping a cause. A breast cancer survivor herself, she has started her own foundation, Right Action for Women. She has also teamed up with other celebrity artists, such as Fergie and Randy Jackson, to sell autographed t-shirts to benefit and promote breast cancer awareness. The Olivia Newton John Cancer and Wellness Centre, located in Melbourne, Australia is one unique to its kind. You can join this celebrity’s dream of maintaining her world-class cancer care center by donating to support vital research and treatment to help turn hope into better health for people affected by cancer. Other celebrities such as P. Diddy, Liv Tyler, and Sir Elton John have been found working to raise money with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Proceeds are put towards funding all types of medical research. Another outlet, Breast Cancer Care, is a support system for all affected by breast cancer, which Naomi Campbell, Sharon Osbourne, and Sienna Miller have been linked to making a difference on multiple occasions. Fortunately, breast cancer rates have been going down, due to finding cancer early and having better treatments. These organizations and the many celebrities that support them are what save lives each day. To make a difference, give back to Breast Cancer Awareness Month and take proper precautions for yourself. “Talk with your doctor, make healthy lifestyle choices and most importantly, know your body, Cynthia Nixon writes on the Susan G. Komen website www.komen.org, “as that can make all the difference in the world. <

The sculpted look is the result of skillful use of ďŹ llers, like Restylane and Radiesse. My patients love the instant improvement they see and the natural, subtle differences that take away the years. We can even enhance features to add deďŹ nition that was never present. Another injectable, Sculptra, gives similar results to Restylane and Radiesse and lasts longer, but the changes are very gradual. Determining which combination of products is best can only be done in a professional consultation. There is no way to make generalized recommendations. It’s amazing what improvements small differences can make when used in an artistic way. For example, Restylane and Radiesse are very effective at ďŹ lling in smile lines and folds next to the nose, but it’s even more effective when we raise the cheeks with Radiesse, taking the pressure off the lower face. High cheekbones have historically been the mark of natural beauty, and the look has never been more popular. Botox, one of America’s favorite cosmetic procedures, is great at smoothing forehead lines and crow’s feet. And, just the right amount of Restylane produces sexy, plump lips and softens the smile lines. I know many people are afraid of the “trout pout,â€? but it’s very easy to get a natural look with the lips. It’s just a matter of using the right amount of product.

Don‘t Miss the beat

> As a 10 year old I remember listening to The Moody Blues on my record player. The arm resembling a miniature crane would rise up pausing for a moment as if it were thinking what it should do next. Then smoothly (I hoped) the needle would lower down onto the spinning vinyl. Over and over again “Knights in White Satin” blared through my massive 20-Watt speakers until the inevitable bang on my door with the request to either change the record or go outside and play. Ah memories! The mid to late 70’s saw the rise and fall of punk. A time when spiky haired Zit faced kids covered in piercings thought that spitting and sticking 2 fingers up made them “Anarchists”. Then we had a brief affair with Disco before it morphed into the best soul and funk years, but that is another story. Now on to the incredible 80’s my friends and with it came a cornucopia of musical icons. I’m talking about Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, INXS, Human League, Michael Jackson, Frankie, Queen,Van Halen, George Michael, Madonna,The Police, Journey, Guns N Roses,The Cure, Dire Straits, U2. Apologies if I have missed your favorite but there were so many. Let yourself revisit those days when you went to that club or party and danced, maybe even kissed someone for the first time. This month’s Classic 80’s CD review is Violator by Depeche Mode.

Ah...the 80’s

–came this cornucopia of musical icons By: Maury Loscher Read more at: StyleToMe.com

After the release of the first album Speak & Spell the group’s chief songwriter Vince Clarke left the band. This could easily have been the end for DM. Martin Gore took over the mantle of songwriter and you only have to listen to “Just can’t get enough” (VC 1981) and “People are People” (MG 1983) to hear the difference he made. Q Magazine calls Depeche Mode: “The most popular electronic band the world has ever known”. Violator was originally released in 1989 and stayed a total of 74 weeks on the charts, going triple platinum in the USA selling over 4 ½ million copies. It remains as the bands top selling album and Martin L. Gore wrote all tracks. Track 1.The World in My Eyes 4.26

Our Violator journey begins appropriately with the line. Let me take you on a trip Around the world and back The original video shows Dave + girlfriend at a drive-in theater watching DP’s World Violation tour. It must have been a slow day idea-wise.

Track 6. Enjoy the Silence 6.12

about recovering from an addiction.

Although never stated anywhere, this song is probably about addiction, but not necessarily alcohol or drugs. This powerful song describes how some can be consumed by perfection. One of the thought provoking lines is….

Initially intended to be a slow ballad with MG on vocals, the producer Alan Wilder had other ideas, composing an upbeat tempo. MG was resistant because he felt the spirit of the track was not suited to “upbeat”. The band disagreed and after what MG described as a period of “sulking” he came around.

Now that I’m clean You know what I mean I’ve broken my fall Put and end to it all I’ve changed my routine

The sweetest infection Of body and mind The slightest injection of any kind Track 3. Personal Jesus 4.56

How can you not love a track that opens with… Reach out touch faith Martin Gore attributes the inspiration for this track from the book “Elvis and Me” by Priscilla Presley. In the book she says the following. “It’s a song about being a Jesus for somebody else, someone to give you hope and care”. The track was a departure from DM’s normal sound and became a worldwide hit. Track 4. Halo 4.30

This track has a plethora of meanings. Some say it is about marital infidelity, implying that you should forget any feelings of guilt because the pleasure is worth it. You wear guilt Like shackles on your feet Like a halo in reverse Track 5. Waiting for the Night 6.07

The correct title but for a printing error should have been Waiting for the night to fall. MG’s skill at describing angst and heartache is eloquently captured here. He laments that all his troubles may not look so bad as night falls.. And to my surprise With half closed eyes Things looked even better than when they were open...

> Now more than ever Americans are incorporating foods with high amounts of fructose into their daily lives. Without thinking twice we consume many products that contain this corn-based sweetener such as soft drinks, bread, granola bars, and other types of ‘junk food’ on a regular basis. However, many are not aware of the dangerous long term effects—our susceptibility to become obese, develop diabetes and heart disease has increased, as well as rapidly speeding up cancer cells within the body.

Style MD Fructose Feeds Cancer Cells?

Scientists have long known that cancer cells feed on sugar, but a new study proves that not just regular sugar, but fructose is the number one suspect on increasing your risk. After a prolonged study at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, scientists agree that cancer cells, specifically pancreatic cancer - typically regarded, as the most world wide rapid killing form of cancer, love fructose. “The bottom line is the modern diet contains a lot of refined sugar including fructose and it’s a hidden danger implicated in a lot of modern diseases, such as obesity, diabetes and fatty liver,” said Dr. Anthony Heaney, who is the director of the Pituitary Tumor and Neuroendocrine Program at UCLA. “In this study, we show that cancers can use fructose just as readily as glucose to fuel their growth.” Heaney and his team closely examined cancer cells in Petri dishes, adding glucose to one dish, and fructose to

another. Always focusing more attention on the glucose sugar and its effects on cancer, they were shocked to see the opposite of what they had expected to occur, the cancer cells in fact, were able to metabolize fructose to increase proliferation faster than glucose. The intensity in which fructose can multiply cancer cells so quickly, is quite scary. We’re not saying you should change your whole diet or stop indulging on your guilty pleasures altogether, just take precaution on the foods you intake, their ingredients and the amount in which you consume them. Be mindful, if you see fructose corn syrup in the top ten ingredients listing of an item, chances are you probably should not be consuming it, especially on a regular basis. Health experts advise adjusting your diet, and increasing your health by eating more things that come straight out of the ground like fresh herbs and vegetables, rather than processed and packaged food items that contain the highest amounts of fructose corn syrup. Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center was named one of the top ten cancer centers nationwide by U.S. News & World Report in July 2010.<

Dermatologists say there is a device that offers a non-invasive way to shrink fat.

That frigid environment causes the skin to feel numb as the fat cells self destruct.

Doctors say this treatment can reduce up to 22 percent of the fat in areas like the back, belly and thighs.

It’s called Zeltiq Cryolipolysis. It works with a vacuum that flattens the skin, creating an even surface. Then the area is cooled to a temperature just above freezing.

The fat is injured by freezing, crystallized, and then slowly reabsorbed by the body – about a six-week process.

The cost per section is about $500. For more information email us at info@styletome.com

> The new Porsche 918 Spyder Concept shatters any pre conceived notions of a hybrid vehicle. The 918 is a high-performance mid-engined plug-in hybrid concept sports car that has the power to go 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and the efficiency to achieve 94 mpg. The power source of this open twoseater is a high-speed V8 putting down more than 500 bhp, with an engine running at a maximum speed of 9,200 rpm. The 918 is also equipped with electric motors on the front and rear axle with overall mechanical output of 218 bhp (160 kW). The energy pack is a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery that is located behind the passenger. The car’s kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy which is fed into the battery when applying the brakes, thus providing added energy for powerful acceleration. With just a push of a button a 918 driver can easily choose among four different driving modes: The E-Drive mode is for running the car under electric power only, with a range of up to 16 miles. In the Hybrid mode the car uses both the combustion engine and the electric motors as a function of driving

conditions, offering a range from fuelefficient all the way to mega-powerful. The Sport Hybrid mode uses both drive systems, but with performance being its focal point. Most of the drive power goes to the rear wheels, with Torque Vectoring serving to improve the car’s driving dynamics. In the Race Hybrid mode the drive systems are focused on pure performance with the exceptional driving dynamics on the track, running at the limit of their power and dynamic output. With the battery sufficiently charged, a pushto-pass button feeds in a boost of electrical power. The Porsche 918 Spyder is truely the best of both worlds. With its mind blowing speed and its astonishing fuel efficiency, the 918 is a game changer. <

Florida Drug Laws The Epitome of Hypocrisy By: Mark NeJame Contributor: David Jancha Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Florida law, Chapter 893 classifies substances according to five (5) schedules. Schedule I substances have “a high potential for abuse and . . .no currently accepted medical use . . . and in its use under medical supervision does not meet accepted safety standards.” Heroin, LSD, Peyote, Psilocybin (hallucinogenic mushrooms) are among a few of the substances listed. One substance listed as a Schedule I substance does raise suspicions though: Cannabis. Cannabis, better known as marijuana, is actually grown and used for medical purposes in a number of other States- most notably California. Scheduled II substances have “a high potential for abuse and . . .currently accepted but severely restricted use in treatment . . . [and] may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence.” Substances listed include opium, codeine, morphine, and cocaine. It is surprising, in this day and age, that cocaine is listed as having an “accepted medical” use. Schedule III substances have “a potential for abuse. . .and . . .currently accepted medical use . . . [which] may lead to moderate to low physical dependence or high psychological dependence.” A few of these substances include mixtures of codeine combined with other active ingredients that are not controlled substances.

styletome.com

Without question, the use of any of these substances has substantial negative effects on the body, brain, central nervous system and organs. It is ironic though that many of these Schedule I substances are naturally occurring plants and have been used by many cultures and in religious rituals throughout history. Paradoxically, Schedule IV and V substances seem to be among the most abused, dangerous and addictive “prescription” medications, including highly addictive and potentially deadly drugs such as Alprazolam, Clonazepam, Diazepam, Hydrocodone, Oxycondone, and Oxycontin. One must ask: are our drug laws based in reason and a genuine desire to address addictions, crime and treatment or are they created to pander to an ignorant and unknowing public in an effort to gain political support...all at the risk of being counterproductive to the real dilemmas faced. To suggest that marijuana deserves to be categorized as a more dangerous drug than oxycontin or hydrocodone, is the epitome of ignorance and hypocrisy, and rather than helping – only exacerbates the drug crisis in America today.<

October aka Pinktober is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month - so you can always expect pink ribbons - but for people who have breast cancer it doesn’t matter what month of the year it is. At the end of August, Taste of NACE Catering for the Cure put together an awesome event to fight breast cancer, raising $12,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Central Florida. That’s about 2x as much cure as you’re used to seeing in one sentence, but trust me, these people know how to put together a great event. They had great food, drinks, and music not to mention their silent auction (how much am I allowed to say about a silent auction - isn’t that stuff supposed to be - I don’t know - silent) and a live fashion show. BTW:When is the next Fashion for the Cure event going to happen? Charity events continued to rock this summer with the 7th Annual Players Ball at the Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes in support of the Bridges of Light Foundation. While I might be one of the rare types that considers myself a Player every day of the year - I really get to dress the part at these Players’ Balls. This super-chic event raises money to assist troubled youth in our community - at the same time, it is also one of the coolest parties in town. On September 2nd, along with Orlando Style, Dragonfly Modern Izakaya & Sushi had their grand opening. Fabulous hors d’oeuvres and cocktails ruled the night, while a live DJ kept the party spinning. I need to take a month-long trip to Tokyo, because I love Japanese-style lounges! The Grand Bohemian is an ultra cool, über unique brand of luxury boutique hotels - and oh, we just happen to have one in Downtown Orlando - and oh, occasionally, they put on funky cool events,

styletome.com

like the “Sunset at the Bohemian” event that took place on Sunday, September 5th. The “Sunset” party helped to close down the summer season with champagne, lobster and a funky white party that included rooftop mermaids! But don’t worry if you’ve missed it - they’ve just made it a once-a-week thing on Sunday nights. September 16th and 17th was the famous Shaq’s Mama Said Knock You Out! Golf Tournament and Soulful Midday Soiree. While everyone I know loves to start the day off right by getting up early for a full day of golf, there aren’t many golf outings that include a midday soiree with a incredible soul food buffet, smooth jazz and Shaq! It seems like every month I go to Velvet Sessions and am somehow surprised how much fun I have. I need to stop being surprised. Velvet Sessions is an intimate musical experience with an old school band that you never forgot you loved. This month’s Velvet Sessions featured Better Than Ezra, performing their usual hits. Awesome! As Saks Fifth Avenue launches its new fall “I’m Going to Saks for…” campaign, the Orlando store at The Florida Mall celebrated with an exclusive Fall Fashion Show by St. John. Guests enjoyed an alfresco lunch, fall fashion show, complimentary valet and shopping deals. Lucille O’Neal, a longtime St. John customer, was also on hand to sign autographs of her newly released book, “Walk Like You Have Somewhere To Go.” August and September were awesome months for Orlando. Which is not so different than every month in this crazy city that loves to party. And with the new Amway Center, we’ll have that many more parties to go to! Go Orlando! < Know of a not-to-be-missed event? Do Tell!

Vines Wine & Spirits Not your ordinary liquor store By: Billy Kolovos Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Vines Wine and Spirits is no stranger to the industry. Brought to you by the owners of Vines Grille and Wine Bar, five-time winner of the prestigious Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with the owner Dimitri Karabinis and the general manager Glen Mederos. This retail location first opened its doors in spring of 2009. In the fall of 2009,Vines W&S expanded to 4500 square feet with a vision of offering Central Florida wine, beer, and spirit consumers a retail experience second to none. “With our experience and personal relationships with some of the greatest wine makers of the world, we are able to provide our patrons with an exceptional selection of wines at terrific prices, from the value driven every day favorites to the hard to get rare and collectables,” says owner Dimitri Karabinis. In May of 2010, Glen Mederos joined the team bringing with him 10 years of experience from the Wine Warehouse of Winter Park – where he practically grew up, having worked there from right out of school, moving up from the warehouse to general manager and buyer. Vines W&S extended their love of wine by building a tasting room and lounge area. A serene piece of wine heaven located in the back of the shop where the guest can enjoy a wonderful wine tasting experience while sitting back and relaxing in the chic and cozy lounge area. The store provides an easy to shop casual and chic environment, and an eclectic selection of products to ensure an enjoyable shopping experience. The friendly and knowledgeable staff is always eager to provide wine advice and suggest drink recipes for the vast selection of different spirits carried in the store. Vines selection of wine caters to those enthusiasts who search for value driven wines, as well as collectors searching for esoteric small production wines – and everything else in between. Vines Wine and Spirits goes the extra step, providing descriptions, ratings and tasting notes to serve as a shopping guide and assisting you with your selections. During the expansion, a cellar room was added to house several hundred collectible & rare wines. This collection contains some of the most sought after wines, including names such as Domaine Romanee Conti, a world class Burgundy, the 2007 Scarecrow Cabernet, a 100 point scoring wine by Robert Parker, and Dows 2007 Vintage Porto which scored 100 points by Wine Spectator.

::

In addition to accommodating wine lovers, Vines has also incorporated an extensive beer selection, including different domestic, import, and craft beers, and a special “Build Your Own 6 Pack” section in which the guest can pick and choose from the wide variety of beers to put together their perfect combination. A great way to learn about wine is to attend a tasting as I did at Vines W&S’s “The Big Tasting” held on the last Tuesday of every month. Glen Mederos has emphasized his passion for hosting ‘tastings’ by having many events in the fall of 2010. Winery representatives will be in the store to educate and pour their products during wine tasting events. There will also be events where spirits are the focus, for example a Scotch and Bourbon Tasting, scheduled for October 13th. Altogether, there will be 15 tasting events scheduled from October through December of 2010, including an “Icons of the Andes” tasting in which 6 winemakers from South America will be in the store. “To keep all our customers updated on store happenings, we use different forms of social networking such as Twitter, under Vineswineshop, and Vines Wine and Spirits on Facebook . In addition, they can also drop an email address at the store or via our website vineswineshop. com which we use to we send out a weekly newsletter to highlight new inventory, current inventory, upcoming events, and promotions.” says Glen Mederos. Vines Wine and Spirits persists on making an impression on their customers by providing custom gift baskets for any and all occasions. Whether personal, small office, or large corporate gift baskets, tailored to your specific needs, with any combination of products from our wines, spirits, cigars, gourmet foods, or accessories to create the perfect gift. The name Vines has been has been synonymous with fine wine in Central Florida, and we are pleased they have expanded their experience into the retail market. Whether you are stopping by for a bottle of wine to serve with dinner, planning an event, or looking for a place to unwind, Vines Wine and Spirits is happy to serve you. <

Tuan Tran

Crave’s Executive Sushi Chef By: Dana Damato Read more at: StyleToMe.com

Growing up with a background of Vietnamese dishes passed down in his family, Tuan discovered his passion for cooking as a young child.Throughout his adolescence, Tuan occasionally hosted dinner parties where he invented recipes from his own assorted imagination. Beginning his culinary career in 2007 at Le Cordon Bleu in Minneapolis, MN, Tuan’s journey began with an internship at Crave Galleria in Edina, MN as a sushi prep cook. He learned vital skills

under the guidance of Executive Sushi Chef, Tony Lam, which led him to obtaining a fundamental role in opening Crave’s second location at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. His unique style of cooking blends Vietnamese, Classical French, Spanish, Italian, English, American, and Sushi – which made him one of the most sought after cooks in Minneapolis. In 2009 Tuan took a 9-month hiatus from Crave to open three successful restaurants in Minneapolis. Victory 44, a gastro pub, The Kitchen, an American Brassiere, and Fusion, a dessert/wine bar with an integrated sushi bar and lounge. In February 2010, Tuan returned to Crave with the opportunity to relocate, opening Crave’s 4th store right here in our beautiful city of Orlando. Obtaining high standards for his creations and a deep enthusiasm for innovative food, Tuan Tran’s diverse palette enables him to present some of the most deliciously unique dishes to Crave Orlando. <

Anatolia dishes up Turkish home cooking made from scratch, served with care By: Holly V. Kapherr Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> All those things your doctor has been telling you to eat more of—garlic, parsley, nuts, whole grains—you’ll find them all at Anatolia, the intimate bistro tucked away in the corner of the Marketplace at Dr. Phillips. Anatolia’s Turkish dishes are chock full of the good stuff; not just good for you, but delicious, too. Your doctor will be pleased, but so will your appetite. Start with a glass of Petit Syrah from the Interesting Reds section of the wine list. It’s full-bodied, spicy and smoky—a perfect complement to the myriad flavors you’re about to experience. This wine is an excellent accompaniment to grilled, smoked and pan-fried Turkish appetizers in the soguk mezeler (cold appetizer) platter. Poke a furtive hole in the puffy lavas bread, cooked to order and covered with sesame, to release a classic aroma of fresh baked crusty bread. Tear off a piece and dive into the dips. The stuffed grape leaves are one-of-a-kind, filled with smoky rice, pine nuts and herbs. If you’ve never had haydari, you’re in for a

treat. Thick, creamy yogurt is mixed with fresh dill, spinach, walnuts and garlic for a heart healthy dip you won’t find anywhere else. There’s no dearth of eggplant in Turkish cuisine and the babagannus is redolent with char-grilled eggplant whipped into fluffy abeyance. For a taste of the sea, try the tarama, red caviar spread blended with olive oil and lemon juice for a real flavorpacked bite. If hot appetizers strike your fancy, don’t miss the mucver (zucchini fritter), crisp on the outside, verdant and fresh on the inside with seasonal summer squash. Other hot appetizer options that won’t disappoint include the falafel, freshly made chickpea patties, as well as icli kofte, cracked wheat patties filled with pine nuts, black currants, walnuts and ground lamb. Swordfish is quite a forgiving fish. If overcooked, it still retains its moisture and flavor without drying out. Anatolia’s cooks don’t need swordfish to forgive them their fish cookery sins, they do the kebab justice by

grilling it with vegetables and showing off its meaty texture. The grilled cipura (Royal Dorado) is a fish-lover’s dream, char-grilled with its thin skin on, turning crispy under the flames. Anatolia does shrimp right, as well, serving perfectly cooked pink Gulf shrimp tender and delicious with a squirt of fresh lemon juice. For the ultimate experience, go for the karisik kebab, or mixed grill. This dish is a masterpiece of meat-worshipping mania. It is difficult to explain the kinds of flavors you’ll find on the plate, other than that they are varied and satisfying. Spicy tavuk adana kebab is wonderfully seasoned ground chicken that lacks neither heat nor moisture. Classic doner lamb and beef are reminiscent of the Parisian Left Bank, smelling of spices and dripping with flavorful juices. Lamb and chicken shish kebab are classic Turkish grill mates as well as a perfectly medium-rare lamb rack. The mixed grill at Anatolia won’t leave you hungry. Super-sweet desserts are a Middle Eastern

and Mediterranean hallmark, drenched in honey and pistachios. The baklava, the layered phyllo pastry filled with pistachio and honey, at Anatolia is a perfect sweet ending, combining a curious mix of salty and sweet for a sensational palate pleaser. Kunefe is a favorite dessert at Anatolia—mild, sweet cheese covered in crunchy, shredded phyllo dough and drizzled with honey—they say it’s a dessert for two, but go for it and you’ll surely be taking some home for breakfast the next day. Milk custard, kazandibi, is baked and caramelized for a unique sweet treat.

tics that make Anatolia and excellent choice for a cozy, romantic dinner or a family celebration. No matter the occasion, Anatolia delivers deep, traditional flavor from the Caucasus to Central Florida. < Marketplace at Dr. Phillips Anatolia, 7600 Dr. Phillips Blvd. , #108 Orlando, FL 32819 (407) 352-6766 anatoliaorlando.com

Anatolia’s menu is full of fantastic flavor from the Bosporus. Just short of hopping a flight to Istanbul, from where much of the staff hails, a dinner at Anatolia will both delight and excite your sense of what is delicious— the true test of an excellent restaurant. The staff at Anatolia is attentive and helpful, willing to explain preparations and offer their suggestions on wine pairing. The intimate setting, attentive staff and delicious food are just three of the characteris-

Sonoma Reserve Merlot 2007 Read more at: StyleToMe.com

SONOMA RESERVE Blackstone’s Sonoma Reserve wines reflect the winery’s Sonoma County roots and represent the talent of winemaker Gary Sitton. Carefully selected to showcase the wide range of microclimates and soils in Sonoma County, the Sonoma Reserve wines set a standard for uncompromising quality and well-balanced structure. Our Sonoma Reserve wines offer rich fruit aromas, soft tannins and an elegant, silky finish; a style that is unmistakably Blackstone. VINEYARDS Fruit for the 2007 Sonoma Reserve Merlot was sourced from vineyards in the Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Coast, Carneros, Sonoma Valley, and San Joaquin County appellations. The Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys are surrounded by benchlands and hillsides laden with mineral-rich soil perfect for growing Merlot grapes. The Sonoma Coast and Carneros regions are cooler, contributing good acidity and brightness to the blend. Grapes sourced from the Sonoma Valley and San Joaquin County are dense, ripe and add juicy fruit flavors. WINEMAKING Grapes were hand picked at the peak of harvest for optimal ripeness and quality. Following harvest, grapes were destemmed and crushed. Immediately after the crush, grapes were cold soaked for 3-5 days to extract flavor, color, and tannins. Primary fermentation in stainless

steel was followed by aging in a combination of new and seasoned French, American, and Hungarian oak barrels for 20 months. TASTING NOTE The Sonoma Reserve Merlot 2007 is a wellbalanced wine with attractive aromas of cocoa, savory herbs, and oak toast. The wine is full-bodied and fruit forward with flavors of juicy black cherries and currants. On the palate, this wine is concentrated with great structure, prominent fruit, and lively acidity, which conclude in a long and pleasing finish.

Exercise can also help with your dog’s behavior problems. Many owners complain about their pet’s constant barking or destructive chewing, and most will mistake their dog’s misbehavior for getting back at them for being left alone, but dogs are not capable of this kind of revenge-like thinking. Keep in mind before you engage in any activity with your dog that you will need to consider their breed, age and weight. Smaller dogs with short legs do not always need to be walked or jogged for as long as larger dogs, and older dogs do not have the same stamina or energy that younger ones do.
