Community and Military Outreach Committee Raises Funds for Wounded Hero The Emerald Coast Association of Realtors® Community and Military Outreach Committee recently hosted its 3rd Annual Volleyball Tournament benefitting Building Homes for Heroes, an organization dedicated to rebuilding the lives of men and women who were injured while serving during times of war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since its inception, the annual tournament has raised thousands of dollars in support of Building Homes for Heroes and our nation’s veterans. Thanks to the generosity of Realtor® members and the Emerald Coast community, ECAR recently donated over $10,000 to the organization in support of this year’s featured hero—combat-wounded U.S. Air Force Cpt. Nathan Nelson. During his third tour in Afghanistan, Cpt. Nelson was a part of a special operations team that took heavy fire, and he suffered a spinal cord injury from a rocket blast. Through the donation to Building
Homes for Heroes, ECAR is proud to help provide Cpt. Nelson with a new or modified home—mortgage free. Thank you to all the teams who came together to help make this contribution possible.

Taylor Swift Restores Samuel Goldwyn Mansion!

merica’s #1 sweetheart, Taylor Swift, is one of the world’s richest celebrities with estimated career earnings from her music, concerts, acting and endorsements approaching $800 million.
What to do with all that money? Taylor has invested much of it in real estate with homes in New York City, Rhode Island, Nashville and her most recent purchase - Samuel Goldwyn’s 10,982-square-foot, seven bedroom, ten bath mansion in Beverly Hills. Included are a library-screening room, a guest suite with a private entrance on the home’s main level, a library, card room, gym and an additional private guest apartment above the garage. The master suite has a veranda that overlooks the city lights. Outside is a swimming pool and pool house with kitchenette and

Since purchasing the home, Swift has worked closely with architects to bring the estate back close to its condition that existed in 1934 when it was built for Goldwyn and his wife, Frances. The home was a neighborhood destination for many of the era’s Hollywood stars including Clark Gable and Charlie Chaplin, and used by Sam as collateral for several of his films including Wuthering Heights and his 1946 Oscar-winner The Best Years of Our Lives. After he died in 1994, sunken tennis courts. Goldwyn the home stayed in the Goldwyn (1879-1974) founded award family for over 80 years until winning Goldwyn Pictures and Taylor purchased it from the estate Samuel Goldwyn Productions - of Goldwyn’s son for $25 million.< now known as Metro-GoldwynMayer with the famous roaring lion head logo. TRY TO INVEST BY PAYING WITH CASH Many advisers warn against borrowing money to purchase investments. You should consider this before you purchase a home that you plan on renting out. The best way to do this is to save up and pay cash for the home. At the very least, you need to be able to afford the payments on the property when the property is vacant, otherwise the property may end up being a burden instead of helping to build wealth. You should never just rely on the rent covering your mortgage. You will have turn overs in renters, and some may not pay on time. Your credit would be damaged if you did this. It can also take years for the profit to turn profitably instead of just breaking even if you use a loan to purchase the property.
