Celebrity Homes for sale By Terry Walsh

Only the exterior of the stone mansion was used in the show, while Mary’s actual apartment was a Hollywood set. It was meant to be behind the Palladian windows on the home’s third story. In real life, that space is a family room with a gas fireplace, built-ins and a beautiful view of the tree-lined street.
Mary Tyler Moore’s Minneapolis TV home The “Mary Tyler Moore Show” aired on CBS from 1970 to 1977, a forerunner for bringing some of society’s issues into American homes in an easy to digest comedic script. Mary played the lead as Mary Richards, a 30-yearold single woman whose top priority was not getting married, but establishing a career and getting the most out of her single lifestyle. Viewers remember the early 1900’s Victorian house in the opening title sequence where Mary was renting an upstairs apartment. “Entertainment Weekly” called it “TV’s most famous bachelorette pad.” Even though the house was given a fictitious address in the series, fans figured out the real address and it became a tourist destination with 30 tour buses a day long after the program ended. Fans were constantly knocking on the door looking for “Mary” and drove the woman who lived there to distraction. She finally hung a sign under Mary’s supposed apartment window that read “Impeach Nixon.” It didn’t work as intended and the house continued to draw as many onlookers as before. The home has been perfectly restored and updated. Within its 9,500 square feet are seven bedrooms, nine baths, multiple terraces and upper level decks, two family rooms, turret office, gym and sauna. Many Victorian features remain such as leaded-glass transoms, bayed rooms and ornate millwork. The lot is a third of an acre with a three-car garage with its own turret.
“Love is All Around” this Minneapolis house used for exterior shots on the “Mary Tyler Moore Show.” Listed at $1.695 million. Listing agents are Barry Berg and Chad Larsen with Berg Larsen Group of Coldwell Banker Burnet Real Estate.
Jane Fonda’s Beverly Hills Contemporary Two-time Oscar winner and actress extraordinaire, Jane Fonda is one of those rare versatile people who thrives and excels in all situations whether it be in the diverse homes she chooses or the roles she plays in film or in her personal life. From Vogue cover model, dance teacher, acclaimed Hollywood and Broadway actress and war protester to selling over 17 million exercise videos at age 79, Fonda shows no signs of slowing down. Jane has continued to make films and is currently co-starring with Lily Tomlin in the Netflix series “Grace and Frankie.” Jane has owned and lived in many beautiful homes over the years from her New Mexico ranch where she lived in jeans and cowboy boots to her sleek and sophisticated Beverly Hills home in the Trousdale Estates which she has recently put on the market at $12.995 million. Purchased in 2012 with long-time partner Richard Perry from TV director John Rich, Fonda said that she and Perry had looked at as many as 30 houses, but the moment she stepped onto this property, she knew it was the special one. In addition
to the home’s open layout and connection with the outdoors and stunning views, Fonda, having always been highly eco-conscious, was impressed with the photovoltaic electric panels, solar-heated pool, thermal glass doubleglazed UV windows and bamboo floors. The 7,100-square-foot home’s glass walls and elevator and multiple covered and open terraces create indoor/outdoor living spaces to enjoy sweeping canyon and ocean views. Though very sophisticated in its contemporary design, the home is warm and inviting with multiple spaces for entertaining. The residence includes the main level with its dining and living rooms, butler’s pantry and bar, office, and large chef’s kitchen with adjoining family room that opens to a terrace. The first floor houses the media room with a full bar, cork floors and a gym opening out to a pool terrace. The master suite includes large walkin closets and his-and-her baths with steam shower, soaking tub and heated floors. In addition to the outdoor viewing pavilion with fire pit, there is yet another special place - the meditation garden. Listing agents are Jade Mills and Valerie Fitzgerald of Coldwell Banker Previews International.<

A 30A Beach House Is a State of Mind In Douglas Adam’s novel, Mostly Harmless, an enlightened being says, “A beach house isn’t just real estate. It’s a state of mind.” There is some truth in this mystic’s words that probably most 30A home owners would affirm. At the very least, living in a beach house—even for just a week or two— shifts a person’s mind towards a state of peace. What is there to fret about when the Gulf sounds surround you day and night? This is the wisdom of the beach—simplicity. Connection to the elements: sand, breeze and water.

hat’s truly special is what 30A offers on top of a simple and natural lifestyle. 30A is the name of a scenic road that stretches 19 miles down the Gulf of Mexico, surrounded by unique and luxurious beach communities

with diverse architectural styles, award winning boutiques and restaurants—and all without losing its small-town, coastal charm. For 30A locals and vacationers, the positive news just keeps rolling in. >
The Associated Press called South Walton and 30A “Nashville South.”
Newsweek said, “Seaside – with its cozy, narrow streets and its jumble of pastel colored homes – is probably the most influential resort community since Versailles.” The Daily News said, “… WaterColor is like the Hamptons, sans the scene.”
TripAdvisor rated Rosemary Beach and Seaside as 2 of its 15 Rising Vacation Rental Destinations in 2016. These two 30A hotspots were chosen from among thousands of U.S. destinations because they showed strong increases in vacation rental popularity in the previous year. This should come as no surprise, as our local paper, The Walton Sun, recently reported that tourism brought 3 billion dollars to Walton County in 2016. On top of that, it is just going to keep getting easier for tourists to travel to 30A. Allegiant Air has announced new nonstop, lowcost flights to Destin/Fort Walton Beach from 11 cities, with some of the fares advertised as low as $42.00.
Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk—calls to mind the classic charm found in the homes of St. Augustine, the West Indies, Charleston and New Orleans. The town hall, post office and community parks bring people together. In this Gulf front, New Urbanist development, you can walk the same street over, each time noticing a fresh garden detail or a new architectural silhouette. With 16 town parks and playgrounds carefully drawn across the 107-acre development, Rosemary Beach promotes a life outdoors. The Washington Post described it as “… stunning: Not half a mile west of Panama City Beach, you fall into the pages of Architectural Digest.”
So what exactly is it about 30A that gives communities such as Seaside, Rosemary Beach and WaterColor their edge? What makes these towns stand out as top vacation and second home destinations?
WaterColor Bordering Seaside and Seagrove Beach, WaterColor is a nature-based community laced with shopping and dining amenities. It offers a cozy and complete neighborhood feeling with upscale touches, old-town character, and nature trails that rival most state parks. WaterColor architecture pays homage to English, Dutch, Spanish and French Colonial styles. Each home takes on the natural colors found in the landscape around it. Comprising 499+ acres of master-planned neighborhoods, with two shopping and dining districts, WaterColor is structured around Western Lake, a 220-acre rare coastal dune lake (1 of 11 on 30A). Kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding are made easy from the community BoatHouse. Year round activities in WaterColor and the other 30A beach communities include cultural events such as the 30A Songwriters Festival and Mountain Film Festival.
It’s worth a closer look—particularly for those planning to purchase a vacation home. These communities should be on any investor’s radar. Seaside Founded in 1979, Seaside was the first New Urban community built from the ground up. It remains a cultural hub of Northwest Florida and was the choice location for the 1998 film, The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey and Ed Harris. Seaside offers a rare opportunity in today’s world for small town living; a place where by design, it’s easy to spend time with friends and family on porches; people stroll down beautiful pathways heading to and from the beach. Markets and restaurants are just a walk away, as are the town’s post office, school and chapel. Nine architectural pavilions mark each beach access with the quintessential Seaside style. Newsweek said, “Seaside – with its cozy, narrow streets and its jumble of pastel colored homes – is probably the most influential resort community since Versailles.” Rosemary Beach At a glance, you could easily mistake Main Street Rosemary Beach for an old world European avenue. Named after the natural rosemary that grows wild and located on the eastern edge of 30A, Rosemary Beach—planned by architects Andres
The Daily News said, “… WaterColor is like the Hamptons, sans the scene.” Investing in 30A When others invest in high-end beach property, it helps build confidence in our own investment potential. Just in the last year on 30A, 48 properties have sold for $3M or more, with the top selling price of $12.5M for a home in Rosemary Beach. This is a good thing, but it doesn’t mean there is a lack of quality real estate available under $1M—there are still over 400 properties for sale in this price bracket.
There’s something else: The Associated Press called South Walton and 30A “Nashville South,” referring to the area as a favorite celebrity destination. The article said, “Among those who frequent the area: country music stars Faith Hill, Kenney Chesney and Luke Bryan; actors Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn; NFL stars Tony Romo and Eli Manning; and even presidential candidate Mike Huckabee
and Republican political consultant Karl Rove.” And we know when celebrities value 30A it can only increase investment appeal across the board. With all the people throughout the years who have loved 30A, and a little artistic license, Douglas Adam’s quote may make more sense to us as: “A 30A beach house isn’t just real estate. It’s a state of mind.”<

In 1970 the US Government began its efforts to do away with financial privacy with a series of laws that affect financial institutions, businesses and individuals. The laws contain criminal violations with long terms of imprisonment and civil penalties including forfeiture of bank accounts and other assets including the loss of one’s home. These laws apply even if an individual has no illegal income. The Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) was the first major legislation designed to keep track of all financial banking activities. The government has added numerous statutes and regulations which require financial institutions to keep records on its customers. A financial institution includes not only banks but also: security brokerage firms, jewelry stores, pawnbrokers, and travel agencies; car, plane and boat businesses; insurance companies; real estate closing businesses and others. A financial institution must not only keep customer records, but must also report cash deposits or withdrawals in excess of $10,000 to the Treasury Department by filing a Currency Transaction Report (CTR). Financial institutions are also required to file Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) for deposits of less than $10,000. The CTR and SAR require the financial institution to give the government a heads-up as to transactions which might otherwise go unreported unless the government inquired of a bank about its customer.
These are just some of the laws designed to invade a person’s financial privacy. These laws apply even if a person is engaged in only legal activity, has committed no crimes, and is not trying to hide earnings of criminal activity. A person is subject to criminal prosecution and incarceration for failure to disclose financial information or for causing banks or other businesses to fail to file the required disclosure forms. The government does not have to hack into business records to invade financial privacy; its laws require businesses and individuals to give up the right to financial privacy or face criminal prosecution.
The Government’s effort to keep track of everyone’s financial dealings does not end with efforts directed to financial institutions. Federal regulations also require any company or individual engaged in business to report to the government a cash transaction or series of cash transactions with a customer that exceeds $10,000 over a 12 month period. The government also has regulations to keep track of banking activities of US citizens with offshore bank accounts and to learn of cash coming in or out of the US. A person who brings in or takes out of the US over $10,000 in cash or negotiable instruments must disclose this activity by filing a government form upon leaving or returning to the US. If a person has over $10,000 in one or more foreign financial institutions, another report must be submitted to the Treasury Department every year by June 30th. In 2010 the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) was passed creating an obligation on US citizens and residents with assets outside the United States, to disclose the assets by completing a form titled “Statement of Specified Foreign Financial Assets”. The amount required to trigger the obligation to report the foreign assets varies depending upon different factors. Fifty thousand dollars in assets may trigger the obligation to file the form. FATCA also requires offshore financial institutions to report its US customers to the Treasury Department and pay a portion of income earned on the accounts to the IRS. Many banks around the world are now refusing to take on US citizens as customers.
