Negotiating skills, some say it’s an art others say it’s a science but with my 18 years of sales experience, negotiating is a skill I’ve learned to master. Marketing is also my specialty and it’s equally as important to be tech-savvy. Both go hand in hand because as we all know, most buyers begin their search online. Having a strong presence on the internet and social media allows me to communicate to buyers or sellers not just locally but globally as well.
PM: What awards have you won? WD: I have won several awards in my years in sales and marketing. I’ve had the privilege to be awarded a diamond ring of leadership excellence for being a strong sales leader with record sales. A financial institution must not only keep customer records, but must also report cash deposits or withdrawals in excess of $10,000 to the Treasury Department by filing a Currency Transaction Report (CTR). Financial institutions are also required to file Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR) for deposits of less than $10,000. The CTR and SAR require the financial institution to give the government a heads-up as to transactions which might otherwise go unreported unless the government inquired of a bank about its customer. The Government’s effort to keep track of everyone’s financial dealings does not end with efforts directed to financial institutions. Federal regulations also require any company or individual engaged in business to report to the government a cash transaction or series of cash transactions with a customer that exceeds $10,000 over a 12 month period. The government also has regulations to keep track of banking activities of US citizens with offshore bank accounts and to learn of cash coming in or out of the US. A person who brings in or takes out of the US over $10,000 in cash or negotiable instruments must disclose this activity by filing a government form upon leaving or returning to the US. If a person has over $10,000 in one or more foreign financial institutions, another report must be submitted to the Treasury Department every year by June 30th.

In 1970 the US Government began its efforts to do away with financial privacy with a series of laws that affect financial institutions, businesses and individuals. The laws contain criminal violations with long terms of imprisonment and civil penalties including forfeiture of bank accounts and other assets including the loss of one’s home. These laws apply even if an individual has no illegal income.
In 2010 the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) was passed creating an obligation on US citizens and residents with assets outside the United States, to disclose the assets by completing a form titled “Statement of Specified Foreign Financial Assets”. The amount required to trigger the obligation to report the foreign assets varies depending upon different factors. Fifty thousand dollars in assets may trigger the obligation to file the form. FATCA also requires offshore financial institutions to report its US customers to the Treasury Department and pay a portion of income earned on the accounts to the IRS. Many banks around the world are now refusing to take on US citizens as customers. These are just some of the laws designed to invade a person’s financial privacy. These laws apply even if a person is engaged in only legal activity, has committed no crimes, and is not trying to hide earnings of criminal activity. A person is subject to criminal prosecution and incarceration for failure to disclose financial information or for causing banks or other businesses to fail to file the required disclosure forms. The government does not have to hack into business records to invade financial privacy; its laws require businesses and individuals to give up the right to financial privacy or face criminal prosecution.
The Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) was the first major legislation designed to keep track of all financial banking activities. The government has added numerous statutes and regulations which require financial institutions to keep records on its customers. A financial institution includes not only banks but also: security brokerage firms, jewelry stores, pawnbrokers, and travel agencies; car, plane and boat businesses; insurance companies; real estate closing businesses and others.

Can you think of some ages that are important for retirement? I know… the thought of it may cause gastric distress, but if you break it all down, you can set yourself up nicely, even without Tums or Prilosec.
a 25% reduction. If you do so and you are still working, if you earn over $15,720 per year, for every $2 you earn over $15,720, your Social Security benefits will be reduced by $1. Some planning here will be crucial.
Let’s see what they are.
65 – You can now sign up for Medicare (actually you can do so three months before your 65th birthday).
50 – At age 50, you can begin making “catch-up” contributions to your retirement account. Depending on the type of retirement account you are contributing to (IRA, 401(k), SIMPLE IRA, SEP IRA, TSA), that could be anywhere between $1,000 and $6,000 in additional contributions you can make to help you save for your retirement!
66 – If you were born between 1943 and 1954, age 66 is your Full Retirement Age. You can now file for Social Security benefits and receive your Primary Insurance Amount with no reduction of benefits.
55 – If you have a 401(k) plan and you leave your employer after you have reached the age of 55, you can take PENALTY FREE withdrawals from the plan. Although a withdrawal will be considered taxable income, it will save you a whopping 10% early withdrawal penalty. This little rule may be of help if you are at least age 55 and not yet 591/2 and need some money. Also, if you are covered under a Health Savings Account (HSA)-qualified health plan, you can save an extra $1,000 in a catch-up contribution.
67 – If you were born in 1960 or later, this is your Full Retirement Age. You can now file for Social Security benefits and receive your Primary Insurance Amount with no reduction of benefits.
59-1/2 – You can take PENALTY FREE withdrawals from your retirement plans at this age.
69 – If you are still not yet taking your Social Security benefits, it just grew another 8%.
62 – If you qualify for Social Security benefits, you are now eligible to file for them, however at
70 – If you haven’t yet started taking your Social Security benefits, they have grown another 8%!
(Note: For those who are born between 1954 and 1960, Full Retirement Age will be anywhere between 66 and 2 months to 66 and 10 months.) 68 – If you are not yet taking your Social Security benefits, it just grew between 8% - 16%.
But don’t delay beyond age 70 because there is no longer an advantage for doing so. And because you waited this long you have qualified for the maximum benefit amount! 70-1/2 – You must begin taking your Required Minimum Distributions (RMD) from your retirement accounts. If you don’t, you may be assessed a 50% penalty of what you should have taken. For example, if your RMD is $5,000, the penalty is $2,500. That’s a hefty amount. (If you are still working and have a company retirement plan, you do not have to begin your RMD from this account until you retire. Keep in mind, however, that this is only for your current employer retirement plan, not former employer.) Last, but not least, your life expectancy… how long do you think you might live? Today, if you are currently in your 60’s it is projected that men will live to be age 84 and women will live to be age 86. Planning for retirement will help you reach these ages WITH money to supplement your lifestyle.
