A Heartfelt Thanks hospitals; Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Florida Hospital for Children, and Nemours Children’s Hospital. Runway to Hope has insisted that each of the hospitals utilize the funds to create new and unique programs, treatments and care that were otherwise absent or underserved in the Central Florida region.
What started out as a simple dream, has blossomed into a beautiful reality. Seven years ago we envisioned a way of providing direct support to the future generation of this world affected by pediatric cancer. Words cannot begin to elaborate on the amount of respect, gratitude, and sincere appreciation we have for each and every one of you. As we come together tonight, united as one, we hope for nothing more than to all hold hands, to walk together, and to find a cure for childhood cancer. We thank all of you for joining us on this special evening to celebrate the courage, strength, and beauty of our young warriors battling this insidious disease. As we have come to realize over the past five years, nothing is more inspiring than being around the unwavering spirits of these children. We sincerely hope that you will also be touched by their indescribable magic, just as we have been. This year marks the beginning of Runway to Hope’s eighth year. What has grown from 30 children walking the runway in our inaugural year in 2010, to over 160 children this year modeling on the runway, the need to help these children and their families remains great. Only a small fraction of cancer research and funding is directed towards pediatric cancer. Hence, private contributions are essential and necessary. We can only hope that one day, prayers are answered and that pediatric cancer is eliminated. Today, unfortunately, is not that day, as this fight continues. Runway to Hope has raised approximately $6 million. Pledges exceeding $1 million have been made to each of Central Florida’s children’s
Runway to Hope also endows a Family Assistance Program, which directly ministers aid to not only the children diagnosed with cancer, but to their courageous and valiant families as well. Often one parent has to quit work to care for the child, other children’s needs are unfortunately deferred and a family’s finances are dramatically drained by mounting expenses and the loss of income. Bills and medical costs mount quickly leading to stress that can overwhelm the parents and children alike. With our Family Assistance Program, we cut through the bureaucracy and red tape in order to provide the families immediate help from anything to food for them, automobile assistance, mortgage/ rent payments, necessities for the home and emergency transportation out of state. No parent should ever have to hear their child ask, “When I die, what will heaven look like?” We hear such things too often and strive daily so that such questions will someday be asked no more. Although the dollars raised may seem high, it is simply not enough as so many more millions are needed. Starting this charity had been a dream fulfilled. Runway to Hope not only touched our lives, but also the lives our daughters, Valentina and Alessandra. We are so proud of the philanthropists they have become at such a young age. “To those who much is given, much is expected” is our family’s mantra and one which is being passed down. We remain motivated by the triumphant stories of most of the kids, but conversely deeply saddened by the tragic losses of others who have lost their valiant struggle. Thank you for being a part of this special evening as we celebrate these amazing kids and as we join together to hold hands, walk together and end childhood cancer. With blessings, hope, and heartfelt thanks, Mark, Josie, Valentina, and Alessandra NeJame.

Proudly Supports Runway to Hope
Your Contributions at Work
Funds raised by Runway to Hope’s signature event of the year benefits the pediatric oncology programs at our three local pediatric hospitals and Runway to Hope’s Family Assistance Program. Proceeds from the Spring Fashion Soiree contribute towards Runway to Hope’s pledge to each hospital; Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Florida Hospital for Children and Nemours Children’s Hospital. At Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Runway to Hope’s contribution supported Central Florida’s first ever comprehensive Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program, comprised of a team that provides the full range of medical and emotional support specific to pediatric brain tumor patients during and after their treatment. Runway to Hope is very excited to announce that we have completed our $1 million pledge and will continue a new $500,000 pledge beginning in 2017. Runway to Hope will now start funding the hospital’s Pediatric Palliative Care Program, which provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support to children and their families who are suffering from pediatric cancer. At Florida Hospital for Children, Runway to Hope has funded the hospital’s Pediatric Palliative Care Program, which provides physical, emotional and spiritual support to children and their families who are suffering from pediatric cancer. Runway to Hope has completed our $1 million pledge and begins our new promise to the hospital of $500,000 in 2017. Starting this year, Runway to Hope will fund a portion of the new pediatric oncology floor, which includes 12 large patient rooms, a family lounge, and a play room for the patients. This renovation of the hospital wing will
provide much needed comfort and top of the line equipment to serve the families living and battling pediatric cancer in this unit. At Nemours Children’s Hospital, Runway to Hope funds two areas. The first is its Community Children’s Oncology Program, which is a database that improves access to leading-edge therapies, research and resources for pediatric cancer patients throughout Northern and Central Florida. Additionally, we fund Pediatric Interventional Oncology, which serves cancer patients directly by utilizing rare and advanced imaging technologies for localized treatment. In 2019, Runway to Hope will continue our pledge with Nemours by purchasing new equipment and training for Microwave Ablation. This new technology is for treatments against soft tissue tumors. This will reduce the side effects on the children and will offer the opportunity to have potentially life saving care. Runway to Hope will also fund a Survivorship Program, which will provide access to information on how certain patients are treated and how these cancers react to physicians between all three of Central Florida children’s hospitals. By sharing this information and collaborating, doctors can better treat all of the children impacted by pediatric cancer.

Runway to Hope would like to thank Bloomingdale’s Orlando for their ongoing support and dedication to making our little stars look and feel their best. Bloomingdale’s Orlando has generously donated all of the beautiful and stylish outfits worn on the runway this evening. We would also love to thank them for creating a special weekend for the children of Runway to Hope called Beauty and Boys Bash Weekend. It is a weekend many won’t forget as they not only select their runway outfits, but also partake in a celebration with their buddies at Bloomingdale’s Orlando. They laugh, dance, dress up and become inspired by all the wonderful volunteers, Bloomingdale’s employees, vendors and buddies who join them in celebration of this very special day.

BASH WEEKEND 2017
Runway to Hope’s extraordinary sponsor, Bloomingdale’s, and their incredible staff, donated their time, resources, and clothing to more than 150 childhood cancer models. The Runway to Hope Bloomingdale’s Bash Weekend was complete with a “Our Stars Sparkle with Hope” mantra and Vintage Hollywood theme! Both Bash Days were full of pampering, face-painting, eye lash design, hair styling, photo booth fun, nail art, balloon twisting, caricature drawings, game truck entertainment,
henna art, a scrumptious dessert bar and most importantly shopping, with styling provided by Fused Fashion! This incredible event would not have been possible without the incredible support of The Mall at Millenia, over 100 generous volunteers, local Central Florida businesses and the 2017 Runway to Hope Spring Fashion Soiree Committee. Also joining Runway to Hope in the fight to end childhood cancer was Yoanna House, America’s Next Top Model season two winner. Yoanna spent

The Runway to Hope Bloomingdale’s Bash Weekend serves as a timeless moment when cancer does not take center stage in the lives of those affected by pediatric cancer.
Volunteer Spotlight Runway to Hope greatly respects the time, expertise, and commitment of two exceptional Spring Fashion Soiree Volunteers; Billy Brown and Lauren Larson.
Billy Brown
Billy is not a stranger to Runway to Hope. He was originally diagnosed in 2012, with Early T-Cell Precursor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, but thankfully has been in remission for three years. This would have been Billy’s last year to walk the runway, but instead he told his mother he wanted to give back. Billy came to volunteer as a buddy at the 2017 Bloomingdale’s Bash Weekend and will be helping us backstage. Runway to Hope would like to spotlight this incredible and selfless young man for wanting to help other children instead of being onstage and we think the world of him. Billy enjoys playing video games and hopes to become a firefighter, mechanic, or a counselor one day. He wants everyone to know that he is a hard worker, very funny and loves to make people laugh. Thank you Billy for giving back and being an inspiration to the other children who are currently battling pediatric cancer.
Lauren Larson
Lauren was a Runway to Hope model in 2016! This year she is celebrating being a survivor by participating in our Runway to Hope Survivor Program! Originally, Lauren was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in 2006. Her diagnosis has not stopped her from enjoying all of the beautiful things in life. She came to volunteer with Runway to Hope at our 2017 Bloomingdale’s Bash Weekend as a model buddy and was able to make a wonderful connection with a younger model and their family. Lauren will be escorting her buddy down the runway this evening and we cannot wait for the two of them to shine together! Lauren enjoys acting, singing and dancing and she hopes to become an actress one day. Lauren would like everyone to know that she never gives up and hopes there will be a cure for childhood cancer one day.

In Memory of Arya At only 8 months old, cancer picked a fight with Arya. We found out on July 4th, 2016 that she had a rare form of child-cancer called Neuroblastoma. For 9 months Arya took this illness head on and you could tell that she wasn’t afraid and was all ready to fight. A lot has happened in those 9 months and at one point Arya did beat cancer and won the first fight hands down. After 7 rounds of chemotherapy, surgery and a bone marrow stem cell transplant, she was cleared from any cancer cells and we were moving forward to the road to recovery.
On March 6th, 2017 we found out that cancer had come back and wanted another go at Arya. Even though she was still recovering from the first fight she continued to push forward. She was brave, strong, and fearless in her fight and began to inspire others. She didn’t back down at any time and would continue to fight to the very end. On April 1, 2017 the fight was over.
She fought every day from the first day to her last and we don’t consider her to have lost the fight to cancer. As long as you fight, you cannot lose. Even if you don’t win, you learn. Arya was able to teach and inspire so many people and continues to do so every day. She taught us about what it means to be a hero. Heroes are the ones who don’t give up, they keep fighting, and don’t give up even when things are at their worst. Arya is our hero and will always be remembered that way.
