PUBLISHER’S NOTE
Our publishing venture with Tampa Style began with a simple yet determined pledge to follow our intuition to provide our city with the best in regional lifestyle magazines. As we are currently heading into our 11th year, it can be said time and again that our intuition must be right! Since the very beginning, and millions of printed copies later, our readers continue to prove that the motivation and dedication that guided us from the very beginning are always worth following, and this motivation and dedication is what makes each issue of Tampa Style truly stand out. We are an independent publishing house, which makes challenges such as the recession and a pandemic, which is hopefully almost over, difficult to overcome, but we have stayed strong—thanks to our loyal readers and advertisers. We are so grateful that you have been there for us through the years, and we are dedicated to be there for you. This November/December Luxury Holiday issue is another wonderful example of our intuition being put to good use. As you enjoy the articles and photo series on each page, you will discover the uncompromising quality that has defined every copy of Tampa Style since day one, from our features about the newest trends in fashion and beauty to the inside scoop on all of the not-to-be-missed happenings in the Tampa Bay area. Lastly, I would like to send my thanks to the many unsung heroes, like our amazingly dedicated staff and our talented contributors. During this time each year, I become emotional as I stop and realize how grateful I am for all those who are connected with our publication. Thank you for making Tampa Style the most successful and beloved magazine in the city. From our growing family to yours, we wish each of you a most heartwarming holiday season… Have yourself a most thankful Thanksgiving, a very Merry Christmas, and Shanah Tovah, Bonne Année, Gutes Neues Jahr, Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu, Antum Salimoun, Feliz Año Nuevo, Buon Capo d’Anno, Naye Varsha Ki Shubhkamanyen … and to all, a Peaceful and Happy New Year! Sincerely,
Sven J. Bode

BROTHER’S BOND BOURBON Style Magazines chats with ‘The Vampire Diaries’ stars Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley about their new bourbon.
I’ve never been one to watch much television, but from the very first day it aired, I have always been a fan of The Vampire Diaries. The supernatural drama follows the life of a teenage girl who finds herself romantically torn between two vampire brothers. Though the award-winning show aired its last episode in March of 2017, it’s still attracting a legion of die-hard fans thanks in part to being picked up by Netflix and the fact that the show’s starring brothers are simply impossible not to love.
Of course I’m talking about none other than Paul Wesley and Ian

Somerhalder, who are not related in real life but might as well be after portraying brothers on-screen for eight incredible seasons of the beloved drama. Sadly all good things must come to an end, but fortunately the end of The Vampire Diaries also meant the beginning of something special and new for the ‘brothers’ and their fans. Paul and Ian’s shared passion for bourbon— both on-screen and off-screen—led to the duo developing and releasing their own brand of whiskey appropriately titled Brother’s Bond Bourbon, and Style Magazines had the opportunity to chat with the stars about their exciting, new passion project which has been 10 years in the making.
BARFLY
How hands-on were you in creating this spirit? Paul: We couldn’t be more hands on if we tried! This whole thing, this entire brand, everything you see Ian and I created ourselves from the ground up along with our team. Ian: Absolutely everything you see we touched on, we built and created. Every single day we do everything. We’re in text threads, zooms, calls... our team is unstoppable. These are 20-year-plus veterans so every aspect is across-the-board since we’re surrounded by the best team in the business. What area of the process would you say you went back and forth the most on before you were able to come to an agreement or would you say you were in sync on likes and dislikes the whole time? Paul: We agreed on a lot, shockingly, because we’re very different human beings. We honestly agreed on everything. I don’t want to use that word, but it’s true. Thus far, there’s been no disagreements I would say. As far as they’re being back-andforth, certainly coming up with a name. We came up with the name together and that was a text thread that was thousands of characters long and then obviously the mash bill—the liquid. This was a lot of time blending at Ian’s house and in his living room. That was something that we argued about, but we both wanted very specific taste so we didn’t compromise until we found it and that took a long time. Ian: Paul is being super humble. This took over a year every single day of blending—morning, noon, and night. Hundreds of iterations of this, I mean literally, I’m not even joking. We needed two things: we needed immediate approachability right out of the bottle so whether it’s Gen Z or Millennial or my 70-year-old mom or 80-year-old dad, they can
literally pick up this bottle, pour it into a glass and drink it. That immediate approachability and then character nuance and complexity for bourbon drinkers. To get those two things together was one hell of a journey that we refused to compromise and now that we have this flagship amazing bourbon under the guidance of Vincent, our CEO, everything we do is an extension. It’ll always have this DNA because the DNA of this bourbon is just something that we obsess about. I dream about it. I’m sorry, I know I ramble on and on, but that’s how much we love it and care about it. What would you say is your favorite drink to have with the Bouron if you’re not having it straight up? Paul: I like the Brother’s Fashioned which is a spin on the Old Fashioned. I’m kind of old school. I like Manhattans and Old Fashions. The Mystic Charmer, that’s our signature cocktail. What’s amazing about it is that it takes bourbon which is traditionally considered this sort of dark spirit that’s for grumpy old men who smokes cigars and it takes that stereotype and spins it on its head and gives us this incredible, refreshing, summer-like cocktail that my mom just guzzles so that’s another great drink, the Mystic Charmer. Ian: The Mystic Charmer is so good! We have a really comprehensive drink strategy that we developed with one of the best mixologists on the planet, but it’s seasonal. There’s a lot of seasonality to it so you build it for seasons...they’re all good. Ready to try these recipes yourself? Brother’s Bond Bourbon can be purchased at ABC Fine Wine & Spirits and other distributors near you. Visit www. brothersbondbourbon.com to learn more and to view additional cocktail recipes developed by Ian and Paul.

Aston Martin DB5 Junior
No Time To Die EDITION

| TAMPASTYLEMAGAZINE.COM
Productions announced the launch of a No Time To Die special edition Aston Martin DB5 Junior. Inspired by the 25th James Bond film, No Time To Die, the film sees the return of the iconic Aston Martin DB5. This unique collaboration with The Little Car Company has created a gadget-laden collector’s item. The two-thirds scale version of the original comes with a fully electric powertrain. Specifications The No Time To Die edition will pay homage to the rich shared history of the brands, with Silver Birch paintwork, Smiths instruments, individually numbered chassis plates and completed with Aston Martin badging. In true Bond style, this special edition boasts even greater power and range over the standard DB5 Vantage Junior, giving it a higher level of performance.
FASHION TOYS
After extensive development and months of collaboration between the three companies, the car is a truly authentic homage to both the Aston Martin and 007 brands. The original Aston Martin DB5 was 3D-scanned for reference, allowing a completely accurate reproduction. Whilst some elements of the car have been replicated, such as the Smiths instruments on the dashboard, some elements have been reimagined for the modern era. The fuel gauge has been converted into a battery meter, while the oil temperature now monitors the motor temperature. The No Time To Die special edition has been designed as a convertible, and not the fixed head coupe driven by 007. This is to offer seating for an adult and child side by side, allowing all generations of Bond fans to share the love of driving. With multiple driving modes and a range of up to 80 miles, aspiring secret agents should be able to escape any situation. There are also some secret ‘Easter Eggs’ hidden within the car for the lucky owners to find. A quick-release steering wheel allows for a speedy entry and exit for the driver, and when they need to stop in a hurry, they can rely on both regenerative braking and highperformance Brembo disc brakes. Bilstein dampers and coilover springs make sure the suspension can handle the performance squeezed into this two-thirds scale marvel. No Time To Die Specification James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 has become a much-loved character in its own right. No Bond car would be complete without Q style gadgets, and the Aston Martin DB5 Junior No Time To Die edition is no exception. Chris Corbould OBE, the Oscar®winning special effects supervisor, has worked on fifteen James Bond films since the early 1980s, and he consulted with The Little Car Company on the development of the car’s complex gadgets in miniature. “When I saw the DB5 Junior in the flesh, I was amazed at how identical it is to the full-sized car – it’s stunning. It’s an amazing feat of engineering.” All the gadgets, are operated by individual controls in a hidden switch
panel in the passenger door. At the push of a button, the headlights drop to reveal a twin set of simulated Gatling guns, complete with imitation barrel blasts and flashes. As witnessed in the No Time To Die trailer, the skid mode comes in handy when caught in a tight spot. The No Time To Die special edition has a unique digital number plate activated through the hidden control panel. Just like the original car, this special edition can produce a smoke screen to aid a successful getaway. Ejected through the rear ‘exhaust’, the smoke has a supply tank which supplies an hour of safe smoke before it needs topping up. Although the DB5 Junior is not road legal, as an authentic Aston Martin model, every owner will receive automatic membership of the respected Aston Martin Owners Club. In addition, all clients will receive complimentary membership of The Little Car Club, allowing them to take part in exclusive events where they, their children and their grandchildren can drive their DB5 Juniors on the most prestigious racetracks. Ben Hedley, CEO of The Little Car Company, said: “Regarded as the most famous car in cinematic history, the gadget-laden Aston Martin DB5 awed audiences around the world over fifty years ago. Now, that story continues. As part of an exclusive partnership with EON Productions and Aston Martin, we have had the opportunity to create something truly unique for James Bond fans and collectors. We can’t wait to see the adventures these cars take with their owners.” Bond fans worldwide are able to secure one of the limited-edition No Time To Die editions of the DB5 Junior by visiting 007junior.com. With only 125 cars being built, build slots are allocated on a first come, first-served basis, by placing a fully refundable deposit. Pricing for the car has been set at £90,000, plus local taxes. Existing Aston Martin DB5 Junior clients will be given first refusal on upgrading to a No Time To Die edition, and remaining build slots will be allocated on a firstcome, first-served basis.

FALL WILL NOT BE THE
same without plaid.
Fall simply will not be the same without plaid, tartan or flannel. You know fall is here when all the clothing stores have plaid on their displays. Its unique pattern gives the casual, cozy vibe, which is why it is so popular in fall and winter. And fashion designers have also started to make more elegant clothing pieces using plaid, steering away from the casual vibe it gives. Of course plaid comes in bright colors too, but you want to go with the plaid or tartan that has burgundy, dark green, black, blue or grey.

WEARABLE POPS OF COLOR Where and how to wear them!
You want to step out of your comfort zone, but not too much, and perhaps you don’t know which step to take. Sometimes smaller, simpler, is better for you instead of going all out and making a huge wardrobe shift and buying a neon orange blazer that you are only going to wear once. There are many ways to do this and I’m sure there is a way where it suits you best! Start off with a base color. Some examples are navy, black, grey or beige. Once you have your base color picked for your suit, then choose what and where you would like the pop of color to be. It can be anywhere from your tie, bow tie, handkerchief, socks or even your blouse under your blazer! These small adjustments make a big statement, believe it or not. And as far as what color to choose as your “accent” color, you can pick any. Find a color that looks good and stands out against the base color that you chose. Another thing that you can do is choose a pattern. Many ties, socks and handkerchiefs come in different types of patterns and prints that also give the same affect. Next time you have the opportunity to wear a nice blouse or jacket, wear a pop of color of your choice!

LACE, THE MOST LUX OF THEM ALL Where it came from and why we love it Lace is a very well known fabric. When you think lace, what most likely comes to mind is luxury. Lace is a very delicate fabric made of yarn or thread in an open weblike pattern, made by machine or by hand. Originally, linen, silk, gold, or silver threads were used. It was worn by some of the most well known people in history, which is why we connect lace with “fancy” and “luxurious”. Lace goes all the way back to the times of Queen Elizabeth I (6th century). Lace collars, lace caps, lace shawls, and it doesn’t stop there! Lace was
used (and still is) to not only be worn as clothing pieces, but used to decorate the home! Today lace can be found almost anywhere. Typically one would wear lace as an undergarment, or on special occasions. You can now find lace in everyday clothing. You would want to save it for a nice dinner, or a date, and obviously lace is almost always found in wedding dresses. Lace will forever be a fabric that will give elegance to your wardrobe and house.
All that fur! In the fall, you can’t go wrong with fur. And now there are so many companies that make faux fur pieces so that you don’t have to feel bad about wearing fur. It can be a fur scarf, or a fur jacket. (Boots with the fur?) Every year during the cold months you see a lot of trends, but fur is one that has stayed and will continue to stay.

| STYLETOME.COM
Now more than ever, people are making compassionate choices about the products they use every day. You’re probably more likely to read the ingredients on a box of cereal than a tube of mascara, and you’re not alone. While veganism is becoming a popular diet choice among health and environmentally conscious people, many don’t know about the vegan options available for the areas of their lives that aren’t food related, like clothes, cosmetics, and makeup products. People overlook the fact that the ingredients in makeup products are often filled with animal-derived components that can be detrimental to your skin and health.
many vegan cosmetics can be far more expensive than nonvegan cosmetics, you may want to consider spending a pretty penny in order to reap the benefits. Ingredients like honey and lecithin, a by-product found in the nervous tissue of living organisms, are often used in lipsticks and liquid powders and can cause allergic reactions in certain users. Vegan products are seen as superior because they have fewer ingredients, and the ingredients are more natural. These products are less likely to cause or aggravate acne, rashes, dry skin, or other skin conditions, and can even heal damaged skin with its wholesome qualities.
When a product is advertised as cruelty-free, that does not necessarily make it vegan. Crueltyfree products are simply not tested on animals, while true vegan cosmetics do not contain any ingredients extracted from animals, including insects. According to People Ethical Treatment of Animals, beeswax and honeycomb are some of the most commonly used additives in products like eye shadow, mascara, lipstick, and other face makeup. Not to be a “buzz-kill,” but the bees need their own wax in order to provide for offspring and preserve honey for the winter. Without healthy bees to pollinate crops, our future looks devastating. That’s just one of the many reasons to start buying vegan cosmetics.
Wondering how to take the leap and find vegan makeup products to shop for? PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies program is the answer to your vegan prayers. It is designed to share information about companies that sell crueltyfree and vegan products. With more than 4,200 companies in their database, you’ll need to look no further. A few of the companies listed as cruelty-free and vegan include Adorn Cosmetics, whose slogan is “luxury without the guilt,” and Babydoll Cosmetics, who specialize in premium quality false eyelashes. If you’re looking for a more affordable way to support veganism, brands like ELF and Milani offer some vegan options for a fraction of the cost of other companies.
When it comes to integrating values with beauty, vegan makeup is the perfect place to start. Among the good of supporting a worthy cause, it’s also better suited for sensitive skin. Although
Making the choice to purchase vegan makeup not only impacts your own health and wellness, but the future of the animals and the environment that we live in.

The Electric Daisy Carnival, commonly referred to as EDC, is returning to Orlando, and if you haven’t been yet, it’s an adventure to experience at least once in your life. Held at the Tinker Field Stadium from November 12-14, the three-day carnival has something for everyone, whether you are a veteran music lover, newbie, or just want to see what all the hype is about. Once you enter the fairgrounds, you’ll feel ignited by the carnival’s atmosphere. The jaw-dropping stages are something to marvel at, incorporating laser shows, pyrotechnics, and grandiose sets within the fairgrounds. You can also enjoy the full-size ferris wheel, or immerse yourself in interactive art installations that harmonize technology and nature, from LED lights, glow in the dark spaces, and three-dimensional superstructures. And if we’re lucky, perhaps we’ll see ziplining again from past EDCs.
Of course, the headliners and acts this year are full of magnetic artists ready to electrify excited music lovers. Favorites include Afrojack, Kaskade, AC Slater, and Zedd spinning some original tracks and remixes. If you’re new to EDC, don’t fret! EDC encourages a judgement-free zone and open-mindedness to new experiences. Veteran carnival-goers love to meet new people and will talk your ear off. They create a friendly environment, are respectful, and spread positivity to a contagious degree. You’ll quickly feel the love and camaraderie, make new friends, and create memories unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. More than a music festival, EDC is a community where people young and old embrace their authentic selves. Carnival-goers dress up in colorful, vibrant, and often humorous costumes (like Big Bird or a hot dog) to express their personalities. Some costumes
are subtle in the details and others take up space. Take the opportunity to create, pretend, and play with your individuality in a judgement-free zone; it’s a refreshing change from the humdrum of life. Even if dressing up isn’t your cup of tea, you can still enjoy the experience of witnessing creativity at its craziest. Invite some friends, your 18+ kids or grandkids, or be adventurous on your own. Either way, in a friendly environment and magnetic music, arts, and culture carnival, you are sure to have a good time. DON’T MISS THE BEAT
At first glance, you may think Florida-born musician
Nicolina is Joan Jett reincarnated, but with a closer look at her debut full-length album, “Velvet Doors,” you realize that she is an artist of her own making, definitively original, equal parts innovative and intriguing—and any homage to the past found within her style simply serves as rich soil for the songstress of this generation to blossom and grow. Inspired by icons such as Jett, Elton John, and even Quentin Tarantino, Nicolina is charting the path to becoming an icon herself, as her strong sense of identity found within “Velvet Doors” reveals a singer unafraid to let her true self shine—a trait representative of artists destined to make an impact of legendary status. Released on September 17th, “Velvet Doors” introduces the world to a creative soul immersed in pop-rock of the seventies and eighties, with the innate ability to transcend both genre and era. With rock anthems that could easily be at home in sold-out stadiums decades in the past like “What a Feeling,” Nicolina brilliantly modernizes and mythologizes her influences as she concocts a genre all her own, while contemporary hits like “Abyss” could easily climb the Top 40 charts. Simultaneously gritty and glam, “Velvet Doors” brings to life the characteristics of classic rock and blues that the music industry has seemed to have forgotten, from the raw authenticity of seventies songwriters to the electric eccentricities of arena-rock bands of the eighties.
magically make emotion tangible through sultry and smooth vocals and swooning guitar solos. The album touches on the personal and the profound, as Nicolina’s perceptive lyrics begin conversations about the wild and wonderful journey of life. While Nicolina exudes confidence and cool, the artist shows a vulnerable side on singles like “Dollhouse” and “Crave,” which has surpassed over 500,000 streams on Spotify, demonstrating her capability of understanding and echoing the sentiments of listeners from all walks of life. A champion of individuality and creativity, Nicolina has a powerful gift of showing that in her listeners’ uniqueness, they all can relate to one another through the truth of emotion, the universality of storytelling, and the connectivity of music. With “Velvet Doors,” Nicolina succeeds in her personal goal of creating music that embodies love and light, making a positive difference in the lives of her audience, each searching for their authentic purpose and place in this world.
After appearing on FOX’s singing competition The Four, Nicolina released her debut EP, “Caution.” Now, along with spotlight artist features on local and satellite radio, as well as statewide radio tours, Nicolina has found global praise on national television and international magazines, setting a tone of high anticipation for “Velvet Doors.” The 17-song record found life in Nicolina’s LA apartment, with most of the songs originally written as ballads on the piano. Over the two-year period of creating the album with producer Alec Zeilon, Nicolina transformed the ballads into the crossover works of art that they are today.

In the new Porsche 911 GT3, the brand’s most powerful genes
combine to create something even stronger. Motorsport legends Walter Röhrl and Jörg Bergmeister provide expert analysis of the state-of-the-art racer for the road. The highlight reel in Walter Röhrl’s mind plays an over 20-year-old thriller. “We never would have thought that a series production car could lay down a sub-eight-minute lap on the Nordschleife,” the motorsport legend recalls. In 1999, the first Porsche 911 GT3 pulled it off. Not least because it was driven around the Nürburgring by the two-time rally world champion himself. After 20.6 kilometres, the clock stopped at 7:56.33 minutes. It was a sensation! For Jörg Bergmeister, a 23-year-old up-and-coming Porsche factory driver at the time, there were no doubts: the GT3 was his dream car. Now Porsche has presented the seventh generation of the highperformance sports car and, together with Lars Kern, Bergmeister catapulted around the infamous Green Hell during the final development drives. The absolute best time from four almost equally fast laps on what is now a 20.8-kilometre test circuit was set by development driver Kern: an astonishing 6:59.927 minutes (911 GT3 (WLTP): Fuel consumption combined 13.0 – 12.9 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 294 – 293 g/km, 911 GT3 (NEFZ): Fuel consumption combined 13.3 – 12.4 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 304 – 283 g/km). Roughly a minute faster than the first one. “A world of difference,” says Röhrl. The latest GT3 incorporates more racing technology than any of its predecessors. The layout of the double wishbone front axle, the refined aerodynamics with the swan-neck rear wing, and the striking diffuser are just a few of many examples. Bergmeister, now 45, knows the components well from the Porsche 911 RSR – the GT factory racing car that delivered Le Mans victories and championship titles for Porsche. The most powerful series 911 with a naturally aspirated engine offers an astonishing level of everyday comfort for what is a razor-sharp driving machine. What else is there to say? The final word goes to the grand master of driving: “I am often asked which is my favourite 911,” says Röhrl. “It’s always the latest one – and the next one.”

CAN YOU OUT-EXERCISE A BAD DIET? 58
| STYLETOME.COM
HEALTH
By Khadejah Khan We all know that one person who says, “I eat what I want and then just work it off at the gym,” and then proceeds to stuff their face with pizza, tacos, and cheeseburgers. But is there any truth to out-exercising a crappy diet? In short: NO. Working out like a monster is not going to counteract a bad diet, it’ll only make it harder for you to achieve your fitness goals. Different foods have good and bad side effects toward various parts of the body. Healthy foods contribute essential nutrients which impact our skin, sleeping patterns, and joints, for example. Dense foods that are rich in calories but low in healthy nutrients can make us feel groggy and bloated (think Popeye versus Garfield). So if you’re regularly eating junk foods like fries and doughnuts, heading to the gym for 45-60 minutes is not going to work off your Wendy’s 4 for $4 either. Instead, it gets stored as fat and disrupts your #gainz. Perhaps the only people who can justify a bad diet are pro athletes. They require an enormous amount of caloric fuel because they burn off the intake with frequent exercise and high intensity workouts, aka energy output. For the average person, it’s a lot harder to work off your caloric intake, no matter how much we believe we live at the gym and breath exercise. Unless you’re training to be the new Michael Phelps or a linebacker at the next Superbowl, there’s no rationale for unlimited breadsticks at Olive Garden. Having a bad diet and keeping your physique may have worked when you were in high school, but that’s not the case once you pass 25. Your metabolic rate, or how quickly you burn calories or fat, is at its highest in your teens and early 20s, even if you didn’t exercise regularly, meaning, eating fast food during your lunch block was fine and dandy whether or not you had track practice later. However, everyone’s metabolic rate is different and determined by genetics, and as we get older our metabolism slows. Such is life, unfortunately. So what about that person we all know who believes they can have their cake and eat it, too? One: they might be lucky and have a high metabolic rate (try not to let that jealousy get to you). Two (and most likely): they’re not going to see the results they want. Having bottomless fries at Red Robin then working it off didn’t cancel out the fries; it just made it more difficult to lose. Therefore a regular diet high in bad fats and sugars will constantly get in the way of your gym goals. It’s unreasonable to quit an entire diet cold-turkey. But in small ways, the key is to make smart food choices that when stored are healthy for us and give us good nutrients, but will also be “easier” to work off.

GREAT COOKS Just cause they can afford a private chef, doesn’t mean they need one! By Riesa Pascal With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it’s only natural to start thinking about food and maybe some of your households are already arguing about who’s cooking the turkey this year! While it’s apparent that private chefs are a must-have for many celebrities, not every star needs someone else to cook for them. Here are 8 celebrities who not only enjoy cooking, but are also surprisingly good at it. Chrissy Teigen first showcased her love for food by posting recipes she loved to cook—or created herself—on her blog and other social media platforms. In 2015, she released her first cookbook, titled Cravings, which was inspired by recipes from her life with her famous hubby John Legend. Today, you can still regularly see Chrissy cooking up a storm in the kitchen on her Instagram and Twitter, oftentimes featuring beloved family members as her sous chefs. When you have the kind of fame Kris Jenner has, you certainly don’t have to cook if you don’t want to. Fortunately for the Kardashian clan, Kris Jenner actually enjoys taking time out of her busy schedule to cook up comfort food for her family. In fact, she enjoys cooking so much that she even shared some of her favorite foods in a cookbook called In the Kitchen With Kris: A Kollection of Kardashian-Jenner Family Favorites. Inside the cookbook, you’ll find nearly 70 favorite recipes that have become the centerpiece of Kardashian-Jenner family traditions. Apparently a love of cooking runs in the family because much like her mother, Kylie Jenner is also not a stranger to the kitchen. She has often appeared on social media taking her fans along with her as she whipped up her favorite recipes. In 2016, the beauty-mogul even released her own cooking series titled "Cooking With Kylie" for her app and website subscribers. On the show, the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan takes on everything from candied yams and Teriyaki Sliders to healthy stir fries and more. Although she keeps it modest when it comes to her cooking skills, Blake Lively absolutely loves to bake. The A-list actress and fashion icon even celebrated her good friend Beyoncé turning 33 in 2014 by creating an amazing beehive shaped birthday cake that looked more nothing short of a work of art. Lively spoke about the desert in a social media video showcasing the tasty treat writing, “In honor of the Queen of all Bs… I had to make this Meyer Lemon Honey cake.”
We’ve all seen Snoop Dogg work his culinary magic on VH1's Emmynominated Martha and Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party. What you may not know, however, is that Snoop's love for the kitchen actually stems from his self-described "unadventurous" palate. When he is cooking for himself, Snoops says he can always have his favorite dishes, no matter what. Luckily for us, Snoop decided to share these favorite recipes with the world in his debut cookbook, From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg's Kitchen. The recipe book delivers 50 recipes and OG soul food straight from Snoop's own collection such as Baked Mac & Cheese, Fried Bologna Sandwiches with Chips, Soft Flour Tacos and Easy Orange Chicken. Is there anything David Beckham can’t do? Well if you follow him on Instagram, you know that cooking is not one of those missing talents! The retired soccer star loves to bake, is close friends with Gordon Ramsay, and has even received tips for the kitchen from the celebrity chef such as how to make a perfect Beef Wellington. He regularly takes to his social media to share his cooking skills and has recently held discussions with the BBC and Netflix about a cooking show which would be developed by his company Studio 99. When she’s not headlining sold-out concerts all over the world, Taylor Swift can often be found in the kitchen! Many of her friends have attested to her cooking abilities and she has even said herself that her cooking inspiration is Chef Ina Garten. The “Shake It Off ” singer has been a fan of the famed chef since she was a teenager and loves making Ina Garten’s flag cake recipe for her Fourth of July parties. Swift is also a self-proclaimed food addict and has been known to make her tasty, eye-catching desserts for her own parties. This one was a genuine surprise for me to learn! Before he was serenading the masses with his sultry voice, did you know that Michael Bublé was a cook on a boat? According to the Grammy-award winning artist, he often lived with his great-grandmother as a child and fondly remembers watching her effortlessly cook delicious meals. His father was a fisherman who was away a lot and from ages 17-20, Bublé was hired as a cook on the same boat. He spoke of that time of his life saying he would make meals on the stove in a little galley such as lasagnes, roasts and spaghetti bolognese.

Lately, I’ve been spending a great deal of time thinking about food. Essentially, this is because that’s what I do every day, but also because Thanksgiving is approaching. Most of what we know about Thanksgiving is apocryphal. The only thing we can count on as being true is that there was eating. And probably giving thanks. Which actually makes it a pretty good holiday. While we have plenty to be thankful for, now seems like a good time to be especially grateful for food. First off, if you didn’t make it yourself, someone else sure as heck did. Thanks to the restaurant workers spending hours behind a hot stove and the servers spending just as many hours running around. And now we have the delivery folks to extend thanks to. These men and women have become the newest addition to front line,

essential workers. And thanks to the home cooks (usually the moms, but also some dads) who toil without much in the way of gratitude for most of the year. They might be working for free, but their time is worth something—a lot actually. Thinking about what to make in the coming week and making sure the ingredients are on hand, requires a great deal of mental energy and also time—let’s estimate this at about ten minutes per dinner per day. If we consider the fact that the clean-up involved in a homecooked meal is often fifteen minutes or more, the dinner that our handy recipe said would take only 20-25 minutes to make, is now pushing up against an hour. Including time spent planning, time spent cooking, and then the clean-up, what’s the real cost of all this? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the
average hourly wage of a worker in the U.S. was around $27 in 2019. That means, on average, we value fifteen minutes of an American worker’s time at around $7. If ingredients to prepare a meal at home cost a family $15, but the time required to plan, shop for, make, and clean up the meal takes an hour, the meal really just cost about $42, but was free for you (if you weren’t the one who just fed everyone). The second group people to thank are the people who grow, harvest, and transport our food. About a year ago, my husband and I decided to plant a garden. Since we are Floridians, we also got a couple of citrus trees, a banana tree, and a mango tree. To date, we have successfully harvested about 2.5 lemons (one had a bad spot that needed to be cut out so we lost a half), a few bunches of green beans, and about five servings of broccoli. The herbs did okay until it got hot.
STYLE MD
Now we just have rosemary and okra. And we still can’t get the kids to eat the okra. It turns out that growing stuff is hard. Other things want to eat what you are growing, the plants get sick, and weeds can seem unstoppable. If it were up to me to grow food for my family, I don’t think we’d make it. And yet, I can go to the supermarket and pretty much get whatever produce or meat I want. It took a veritable army of people to get that food there, most of whom work for very little pay. They have now also become essential workers who deserve abundant thanks and probably a raise. The other people we have to thank are the ones that fed us from the time we were too small to even ask properly. And whether by bottle or breast, feeding babies is hard work. Newborns want to be fed every two hours, which can pretty much feel like constantly. Bottles need to be cleaned and formula is expensive. And contrary to popular opinion, breast feeding is only free if the one who is doing the feeding’s time is worth nothing. Many mothers spend hours directly feeding or expressing milk to be fed to their babies. At $27 an hour? Let’s just say that this coming Mother’s Day, you owe mom. Big time. So, while your Thanksgiving gathering may be a bit smaller this year or include a few Zoom or FaceTime guests, it doesn’t have to be less meaningful. Give thanks, and if you can, maybe slip the delivery guy an extra twenty.

Seema Amin, DMD Tarpon Dental I am genuinely humbled to be chosen by our patients and the Tampa Bay Community for the 2021 Tampa Styles Dentists of the Year. Surround yourself with like-minded people and always treat people the way you would want to be treated …this is my mantra for living my life! -Dr. Seema Amin. Being born in London, England and moving to the United States at the age of 12, Dr. Seema Amin completed her Undergraduate and Dental School studies at the University of Florida. Subsequently, she completed an additional year in a General Practice residency and has been in private practice Dentistry ever since. Dentistry has changed over the last decade and it is important to recognize that not all dental practices are the same. With the growing trend of impersonal corporate dental clinics, the caring, human touch is rapidly disappearing and being replaced by a volume-based business brand of less individualized dental care. Tarpon Dental’s highly experienced team, along with Dr. Amin, is dedicated to deliver an exceptional level of care with integrity and compassion. They believe it is important to listen to their patient’s wants and needs and to offer all treatment considerations in dentistry today. On the cutting edge of dental advancements in her field, Dr. Amin’s practice embraces all new technology that can improve the quality of care for her patients. Her recent implementation of the state of the art, Itero Scanner is one such example. A complimentary scan is taken on her patients to evaluate their oral health. Simulations for clear aligner therapy are also available so you can see your new smile. In addition, this 3D digital scanner technology has virtually eliminated the need to take messy impressions of your teeth. This new technology also gives us a time lapse to show how your teeth change over the years. Over the past 23 years, Dr. Amin has taken countless hours of additional dental education. She is focused on Cosmetic, Restorative, and Comprehensive Dentistry and wants you to have your best smile forever. Have you ever considered improving your appearance? Cosmetic dentistry has advanced and now we can offer trial smiles to see if what you have been thinking could be a wish come true. Full mouth rehabilitations are Dr. Amin’s passion … she is ready to take on the treatment planning challenge of any smile. Advanced implant training gives Dr. Amin the knowledge to be able to handle any replacement option as well. Her team “feels passionate about prevention and detecting problems early”. “Oral cancer screenings are a very important part of our day because we want to help our community fight this battle”. Outside of dentistry Dr. Amin enjoys spending time with her husband, a Gastroenterologist in the community, and their two beautiful daughters. Reham El-Hennawey, DDS, MS Board Certified Endodontist - Root Canal Specialist Before COVID became a global pandemic, Dr. Reham El-Hennawey boarded a plane to Guatemala on a simple mission: provide free dental care to underprivileged children in different parts of the world through the Global Dental Relief program. The mission trip offered free dental treatment and in 5 days, this extraordinary team served 882 children in conditions that were very primitive, compared to most dental clinics in the U.S. Yet, the team managed to offer treatment to kids who may never see a dentist again in their lives. It’s that sense of compassion that Dr. El-Hennawey brings to her patients each day in her daily practice at Aspen Dental, where she offers treatment at 11 locations across the Tampa Bay area. In fact, anyone who has used the saying, “I’d rather have a root canal,” hasn’t met Dr. El-Hennawey. “What a wonderful and compassionate doctor,” said one of Dr. El-Hennawey’s patients in an online review. “I recently had a root canal performed by Dr. El-Hennawey- she was well prepared, efficient, and very caring. I could not be happier with the work she performed for me!” Another patient added: “I had to have a root canal done and Dr. El-Hennawey takes all the stress and fear out of the procedure! She’s friendly and professional and puts you at ease. I love that she explains every step of the process and gives you a chance to ask questions.” Dr. El-Hennawey started her career in dentistry in Canada at the University of Western Ontario, where she received her DDS. However, her interest in the profession began long before she started her formal education. “I knew from a very young age that I wanted to spend a lifetime helping people, and so much of what we do in dentistry goes far beyond addressing the general physical issues patients have with their teeth,” said
Dr. El-Hennawey. “A healthy and confident smile is good for general health, but it’s also great for the soul.” After she completed her DDS, she further developed her dental skills by completing a residency program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Rochester in New York. It was there that her interest in endodontics grew. She then attended the University of Detroit Mercy in Michigan, where she successfully completed a Specialty in Endodontics with a Masters of Science degree. Dr. El-Hennawey is among only 20% of Endodontists in America who are board certified with the American Board of Endodontics. For those of you not familiar with endodontists, they are specialists who focus on diagnosing tooth pain and performing root canals and other procedures to treat the nerve inside the tooth. In many cases, a diseased tooth can be saved with endodontic treatment. Fewer than three percent of dentists are trained as endodontists. With over a decade of experience and more than 11,000 root canal cases completed, Dr. El-Hennawey has excelled in her field. She has been working at Aspen Dental for more than six years and has been the #1 Endodontist across the entire Aspen Dental network, which consists of more than 900 offices nationwide, for four consecutive years. When she’s not working with her patients, Dr. El-Hennawey enjoys a wide variety of leisure activities including dancing, listening to live music, exercising and traveling. She loves to dance in a variety of styles including ballet, tap and jazz. She’s also an avid runner, having completed a half marathon each year for the past decade and loves to combine her interests in living a healthy lifestyle while traveling – like hiking, swimming and being on a beach anywhere in the world.

L. Ruth Berry, DMD Braces By Berry Orthodontics
Dr. Ruth Berry earned her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Florida. Dr. Berry got to experience orthodontics, up close and personal, by having her own orthodontic treatment during dental school. This gave her the insight as to what changes orthodontic treatment could have on an individual. The ability to improve the appearance of someone’s smile and confidence inspired her to continue her education. She completed her training as an Orthodontist at Louisiana State University in New Orleans. Dr. Berry is committed to treating each of her patients as if they were a member of her own family. Each person receives a treatment plan tailored to their individual wants and needs. She believes in
one-on-one patient care and loves getting to know each person as they progress through treatment. The most enjoyable part of Orthodontics is when the braces are removed or the Invisalign is completed and everyone celebrates a new smile. Part of personalizing a patient’s experience is using appliances which are customized to each person’s teeth. Dr. Berry utilizes LightForce braces, InBrace lingual braces and Invisalign which are all custom made for that particular person’s teeth. Having grown up in South Florida and the Florida Keys, Dr. Berry and her husband enjoy boating and fishing when out of the office. You may even find her out in Tampa Bay attempting to master paddle boarding.

Lauren Companioni Strahan Dr. Lauren Practicing with compassion, understanding and communication is paramount to establishing a beautiful patient doctor relationship while providing quality care. These qualities are what Dr. Companioni builds her practice on every single day.“As the only specialty in which the doctor, parent and patient can work together to make a difference through education and prevention, pediatric dentistry shapes a child’s view of the dentist. Much of a child’s anxiety at the dentist is fear of the unknown; but with a little time, talking and teaching, it’s amazing and infinitely rewarding to see a once fearful child become a trusting little patient over just a few visits! It’s this marriage of clinical and emotional care of each child that makes me spring out of bed to go to work every morning. I know I have the best job in the world; I absolutely love what I do. I feel honored, blessed and excited to be
back in South Tampa! I look forward to meeting each and every one of my patients and to the start of a great dental experience for everyone. ”Most important to Dr. Lauren are her husband, daughters Sadie Miles and Libby Rose, and her family. Married in June 2014 – and friends since they were 14 years old – Lauren and T.J. married at Tampa's Sacred Heart Catholic Church just as generations of their families had before them -and she loves nothing more than time spent with her family. Albert J Fontaine, DMD Specialist in Orthodontics "It is an honor to be chosen as an Orthodontist for this edition of Tampa Style honoring those in the dental profession. I love the specialty of orthodontics and have tried to treat every patient with the same consideration I would give my own family. In this changing atmosphere of corporate dentistry, we still have a true private practice with only one doctor and a dedicated friendly staff. We have been doing orthodontic treatment in Dunedin and Spring Hill for over 25 years with over 12 thousand cases treated. I think our success has been due to giving the best possible service we can give at a reasonable cost and at the same time keeping it fun. Our staff has years of experience and we all truly enjoy what we do so patients always feel comfortable. We routinely have patients say they will miss coming to see us. We have the feel of a family practice but our technology is indicative of today. By using our 3D Sirona Digital X-Ray machine in conjunction with the latest iTero 5D Scanner, we can provide the highest level of orthodontics. Our office provides all types of
braces for children and adults, as well as the popular Invisalign. The clear trays provided by Invisalign has changed the way we look at traditional braces, It gives an esthetic alternative for almost all cases. Best time to buy a house might be now! By Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy
Most markets across the country will have more homes for sale, lower prices and less buyer competition, according to Realtor.com data. If you’re in the market to buy a home, the four five weeks might be a perfect time, according to a new report from Realtor.com. After a year marked by low inventory and high prices, most markets across the country will have more homes for sale, lower prices and less buyer competition compared with the average week of the year, the data shows. The metrics used in the report to calculate the best time to buy a home included listing prices, inventory levels, new listings, time on market, homebuyer demand and price reductions. “You’re not necessarily going to get the lowest price, but you’ll get a lower-thanpeak price and you’re not going to see as much competition from other buyers,” says Danielle Hale, chief economist for Realtor.com. In markets such as Arizona and Florida, the optimal buying season tends to be in the early part of the year. “Most of those markets where we see a January or February best time to buy are retirement communities, a lot of older buyers who aren’t as tied to the school calendar as a lot of family, and the weather is good year-round in most of those markets,” Hale says. But in metro areas where families are getting back into school routines, there are fewer buyers in the market, which creates a great opportunity, especially for firsttime homebuyers, to make a purchase with somewhat less competition, Hale says. Although the year began with extreme inventory shortages, the market began to consistently see more listings this summer. It added 100,000 or more new listings in 15 of the past 17 weeks. “If you look at the listings data, they didn’t ramp up as much as they normally would in the spring,” Hale says. “Buyers on the other hand were out in full force early in the year. Therefore, the early part of the year was more competitive than we typically see.” If 2021 follows the typical seasonal pattern, there should be around 705,000 listings on the market nationwide, which is roughly 100,000 more active listings than during the peak summer season in July, according to the report. End of this Year with a median listing price of $385,000, buyers could save about $10,000. And in the largest housing markets, prices could dip more than 10% from their peak. The best week to buy is also a peak period for price reductions, with an average of 7% of homes dropping their price. Based on inventory estimates, that could mean roughly 50,000 homes nationally will see reductions.
