Greg Alexander Greg Alexander is a world citizen who travels the planet to transmute all the quintessence of femininity on glazed paper. If he nourishes an atavistic passion for Greece, the ground of his ancestors, it’s in Paris that he has found his home port. As a photographer, he continues his dream of perfection because, according to him, “the photograph is a kind of plastic surgery which is able to modulate a face ad infinitum!” His vision of beauty is fragile, transitory, a little kitsch and inevitably fatal.

Pura Vida!
Costa Rica - The Pure Life By: Greg Rinaldi Read more at: StyleToMe.com
Sibo Rainforest Spa
styletome.com
> “Pura vida!” That was the happy welcome shouted out to us when we landed at the San Jose Airport. It was how customs greeted us, how the Marriott hotel staff said good morning, and how the Ticos (as the locals are affectionately known) said hello, good-bye, till next time. Pura vida! Literally translated it means “pure life,” but in Costa Rica it was the equivalent of saying awesome, wicked, or just plain cool. It perfectly describes the spirit of a country that beats to the rhythm of life. It was how our tour guide Jorge greeted us at the airport, “Pura vida! You’re here!” We had just gotten off what turned out to be an amazingly short flight. Costa Rica had always seemed to be one of those far away, exotic lands seen only in pictures in National Geographic or featured on the Discovery Channel but that’s no longer the case. JetBlue now runs daily non-stop flights from Orlando International to San Jose for cheaper than it would cost to fly to Texas. Plus, you can visit Mother Nature’s version
of Disneyworld in just three hours! Sure, there are other options from Tampa but nothing beats the convenience and comfort of a non-stop flight. As we drove toward the Los Suenos Marriott Spa and Golf Resort the tour guide proved to be a wealth of information. He was with Swiss Travel. Guests of any Marriott in Costa Rica have the option of booking guided tours through this company. If you do, you’ll quickly understand why they’ve become the largest travel firm in the country. All the guides seemed to have this eerie sixth sense when it came to wildlife. They were able to point out the infamous “Jesus Christ Lizard” sprinting across a pond, a family of bats high up in the trees and a playful tribe of capuchin monkeys. This is the reason you come to Costa Rica - canopy/zip-line tours, hiking active volcanoes, whitewater rafting, boat tours and nature walks in the country’s marvelous rain forests. They let us know, among other things, to never leave our bags unattended in the rainforest because the monkeys have

learned how to unzip them in search of treats. We also learned that those awkward low-hanging power lines that crossed some of the roads weren’t really power lines at all. “They’re ropes for the monkeys to safely cross the road,” said Jorge. A monkey highway, if you will. You can tell a country treasures its natural resources when even the wild animals have their own network of roads! A typical day in the Costa Rican jungle with the right tour guide will put you up close and personal with nature in a way that would put National Geographic to shame, but it’s your choice of accommodations that will set the tone for your trip. Why not choose a resort that matches Mother Nature’s taste for beauty and luxury with its own? The Los Suenos Marriott has done just that. Located in the coastal town of Herradura, about 90 minutes from the San Jose Airport this resort is designed to make you feel at home - that is, if your home has ever been on an episode of MTV’s Cribs. Once you pass through the resort’s colonial-style gates it’ll feel as though you’ve entered a dream which is fitting, since the literal translation of Los Suenos is The Dreams. It is set against a lush green landscape overlooking the Pacific Ocean with an 18-hole golf course that skirts the edge of a rainforest. One of the highlights of Los Suenos is the Sibo Spa. This is their answer to Heaven. In keeping with the spirit of Pura Vida, the spa features themes of metamorphosis and rebirth; from cocoon-shaped sconces on the walls to butterfly-inspired etchings in the glass doors. Changing areas feature full his and hers locker rooms, showers and saunas. Once in your complimentary robe & slippers you can relax in one of three lounges where you’ll be greeted by your masseuse and led down a winding staircase into one of the private spa rooms. Couples
”
can opt for the couples’ suite, which includes side-by-side massage tables and a private patio with hot tub - an experience that will make honeymooners out of even the most veteran couples. While eco-tourism is the lifeblood of Costa Rica, you may prefer to contrast your days playing Indiana Jones with the excitement of a lively urban nightlife. The Marriott offers three options in the capitol city of San Jose. The Costa Rica Marriott sits on a coffee plantation and has the familiar Spanish hacienda-inspired décor and luxurious resort amenities of Los Suenos, all in the heart of party-loving San Jose. Just like Los Suenos, the Costa Rica Marriott features a well-appointed spa, which is themed after the natural elements of the coffee plantation. Residence Inn is located in Escazu, an upand-coming section of San Jose, which could easily be mistaken for Miami with its chic restaurants and high-end bars within walking distance. Featuring more modern décor,
Jesus Christ Lizard
the Residence Inn is perfect for an extended stay with all the comforts of home away from home. Every unit is a suite equipped with a full kitchen, bathroom and 1 or 2 bedroom options. They even offer free washer and dryers. Whether you choose the tropical luxury of Los Suenos or the urban vibe of San Jose, be sure to experience everything Costa Rica has to offer. You don’t need to participate in the eco-tours, but that’s like saying you don’t need to taste the wine in Tuscany. This country worships the Earth as the cradle of life. You’ll feel as if you’ve entered the Garden of Eden while zip-lining high over the jungle canopy or careening down level 4 rapids (rafting on the Pacuare River is the adventure of a lifetime!). Pura Vida is everywhere; in the sloths, the macaws, the monkeys, the trees, the crocodiles basking listlessly in the mud, but most of all in the people you’ll encounter along the way. The best part of Costa Rica is that you’re sure to see Pura Vida in the smiles of everyone you meet. <

The park also hosts celebrations like the Fourth of July party and programs such as jazz concerts annually. “I hear the drums you gon’ make me stay”… You missed the coolest outdoor party in The Bay, St Petersburg Chillounge Night held at Straub Park on November 19th. 5 trucks of beautiful lounge furniture transformed Rainer Scheer’s vision into a magnificent lounge. This year’s event supported Creative Clay and The Woodson Museum. In its’ fourth year, it was bigger and better with Phoebe Vecchioni’s Samba Team performing an authentic Brazilian style samba and Mustang providing two very special pool tables for the VIP area.
Not one but two 13 Ugly Men fundraising events were missed… the 14th Annual Halloween Freakshow at the Venue in Ybor City in October and the 16th Annual Get Roasted Thanksgiving Event held in November. The “Men” have literally been on a “roll.” “Sing it to me baby, that melody”… The 13 Ugly Men Foundation, Inc., is a notfor-profit organization founded in 2000 with one firm goal in mind – to host great parties and donate the proceeds to local charities. Ahhhh Aruba! By: Jennifer Marcus Read more at: StyleToMe.com

Travel ‘N Style
> A vacation is just what we all need. Some time to vacate from everyday life and connect with yourself and slow down. Stressful situations, business meetings, running a household, and work all take a toll on our day-to-day lives. But even planning the vacation can be exhausting from deciding what type of vacation you want and then choosing where to go. If your idea of a vay-kay is on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean, then Aruba should be on your itinerary. Once you are lying on a lounge chair sipping a piña colada, you’ll know you are right where you ought to be. Aruba is known for its nearly perfect climate. The average temperature lies between 86 and 91 throughout the year and because it lies right beyond the hurricane band, it rarely gets big storms. And if it does ever rain, it is usually never more than five minutes, which is a definite selling point when booking a trip. While Aruba has many beautiful hotels and resorts, a standout among the lineup is the Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino. Situated on Palm Beach, this 411room (each with its own private balcony), eight-story complex is host to seven bars and restaurants, a swim up and lobby bar, the Mandara Spa, the Stellaris Casino and several gift shops. There is so much to indulge in you won’t even want to leave the property. But if you do opt to take a look at the island, there are a plethora of activities the island offers including jeep safari tours, horseback riding, sailing trips, and of course, water activities. Looking for an activity at the hotel? Then book a paddleboard yoga class, which is a revolutionary new concept where you practice yoga on a paddleboard on the water and try to remain stable in the most unstable of places. As soon as you walk into the spacious and inviting lobby, you will feel serenity, comfort and definitely think, “Ok…now I am on vacation.” In late 2008, the hotel completed a $50 million renovation of all 411 rooms, which include 23 suites, with state-of-theart features and the latest designs. And while you would be completely satisfied staying in these impressive rooms, you might want to indulge even more and opt to stay in the exclusive Tradewinds Club. This is a hotel within a hotel, providing you with boutique-style luxury. Although it is in
a resort setting, the Tradewinds Club offers five star complimentary food and beverage offerings daily, a 24-hour personal concierge, Tradewinds Lounge access, reserved beach seating and the benefit of sitting on the top floor overlooking the beautiful pool and Caribbean. After enjoying your room and view from your private balcony, you can either enjoy the sun by the free-form pool with cascading waterfalls and swim up bar, or you can head on over to the brand new H2Oasis adults-only pool and recreation area. The $1.2 million project delivered a gorgeous 10,000 square foot adult playground with an impressive fully stocked lounge and plush cabanas. Director of Sales & Marketing for the Aruba Marriot, Anotinette Van Den Berg, states that this is another option from the freeform pool for those “guests seeking a bit of exclusivity and serenity.” Looking to indulge even more? Treat yourself to a luxurious service at the Mandara Spa. The 6,500 square-foot spa includes four VIP treatment rooms for couples and eight individual treatment rooms, along with a steam room, nail and hair salon, and relaxation area. Opt for the full body massage. It is decadent and the perfect detox from everyday life. When you are finished racing around the Caribbean waters on a banana boat or wave runner, have relaxed in the spa and have worked up an appetite, you’ll be able to indulge in some of the islands best restaurants, which happen to be located on property. There is something for everyone at the Aruba Marriott. La Vista Restaurant offers delicious Italian buffet while Ketsu Sushi Bar will satisfy all sushi lovers with a diverse and fresh selection. Looking to spoil yourself? Then book at the famous Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse where quality is never compromised and the food is always sizzling and scintillating. Have a guy in the family who’s bummed about missing the big football game back over in the states? Send him over to Champions Sports Bar & Restaurant where he can catch the game while enjoying a classic American dinner. Ladies (or men) can be satisfied ordering straight from your lounge chair from The Waves Beach Bar & Grill for lunch, and the most romantic and beautiful option is Simply Fish, where the beachfront transforms

into a restaurant allowing you to eat right alongside the water and wiggle your toes in the sand. You’ll also enjoy some of the freshest seafood on the island. If you want to get away for a few hours, then head to the noteworthy restaurant,The Screaming Eagle. While most restaurants have you sitting at a table, this restaurant takes breakfast-in-bed to a whole knew meaning offering full size beds with plush white pillows to lounge in while enjoying your dinner. You might want to wear pants or shorts to this slumber party though. With a satisfied tummy, it’s time to make way to the largest casino in Aruba, the Stellaris Casino, which is located right in the lobby of the Aruba Marriot. The gaming space has everything you’re looking for in a top-notch casino and is even available to rent out for private gaming parties or slot tournaments. Be careful though… it’s open 24 hours so you might not be hitting the hay until the wee hours of the morning. But incase you’re still not tired, head over to Moomba’s beach bar, located walking distance from the resort. It’s a funky island bar right on the water. > In 2011, certain names from Hollywood’s “Golden Age” still ring eternal. Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, James Dean, and Jane Russell are still on the top of the list today as the names of timeless legends. Perhaps not as many people would automatically add “Terry Moore” to that list. Yet the ‘50s movie starlet, still acting and still vivacious well into her 80s, claimed as close friends all of the above names. She worked with even more of them, including Jimmy Durante, Frankie Laine, Judy Garland, Lana Turner and Burt Lancaster. And eventually, she would achieve a very unique fame for one relationship that would not just draw attention from Hollywood, but the entire world. Born Helen Luella Koford, she was billed under multiple different names before eventually settling on Terry Moore. Her acting career had begun well before that. After some work as a child model she landed at age 11 an uncredited role in the 1940 film Maryland. She spent the rest of the decade splitting time between minor roles and radio work before landing her first starring role in the quasi-sequel of King Kong, Mighty Joe Young. Moore’s most acclaimed part came a few years later, in her career-turning role in the 1953 melodrama Come Back, Little Sheba. Burt Lancaster and Shirley Booth starred in this cinematic adaptation of the Broadway play about a couple who’s been beaten down by life’s trials, only to get reminded of how far they’ve fallen from their youthful vigor when a beautiful, passionate young woman played by Moore takes up board. This was a move against the innocent characters she had portrayed up until then, one that was rewarded with an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Moore starred in more than a dozen movies in the 1950s, including the 1956 war film Between Heaven and Hell and Peyton Place, a film based on a controversial, salacious novel. Amidst the backdrop of this flurry of work, though, another drama was taking place. While Moore was working on Sheba her marriage to Glen Davis was coming to an end. Blossoming at the same time was another relationship, one that would become inextricably tied to her career. It was to a gentleman named Howard Hughes. Like the enigmatic billionaire, the relationship between he and Moore was something of a mystery. What made this mystery all the more interesting was that as Moore would eventually claim, it was more than just a coupling: it was a marriage. Though 25 years her senior, Hughes
was purportedly taken by the young starlet, with a fascination that Moore would later call “puppy love … the greatest love in the whole world.” Did they marry? That would be the question that would preoccupy Hollywood for years. Moore states that they originally married in the eyes of God on top of a hillside, and then finally tied the knot legally on a yacht in 1949. While Moore never provided publicly any documentation, a lawsuit between her and Hughes’s estate ended in a settlement. She would eventually write the story of the affair from her perspective in The Beauty and the Billionaire. Today, though she sometimes gets tired of it being the first thing that people ask her about, she still speaks fondly of the “puppy love” that the two shared. Her annoyance at the questioning is probably more understandable in light of the fact that Moore’s career never stopped moving, though it did start to slow down just a bit. By the time of a bit part in the1983 B-thriller Double Exposure, Moore had been in only three movies and a small handful of TV roles in 16 years. It was another “exposure” that regenerated interest in her, though. In August of 1984, at the age of 55, she defied all rules of celebrity by appearing in a nude spread in Playboy. Her confident, glamorous beauty would continue to inspire actresses for years to come. 10 years later her place in Hollywood was literally cemented when she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Moore today is as active and vibrant as she has ever been, going so far as to continue to take acting classes. Her filmography lists 8 movie credits in just the last 5 years, with an additional fun turn in the VH-1 reality series Old Skool with Terry & Gita, a sassy girl-talk show where she gossips it up with former supermodel Gita Hall. In 2012, she will appear in two films, Margarine Wars and Blood Mansions. Through it all, Moore has one last reality show to be proud of starring in. She is the mother of two children and two grandchildren, with two of her progeny (son Grant Cramer and granddaughter Alexander Cramer) going on to have successful acting careers of their own. Many thanks to Antonio F. Uccello III, dear friend of Terry Moore, and her step son, Beau Burton, for arranging this interview while Terry visited the Tampa Bay Area to spend quality time with the star of the movie, ‘Winter’ the bottlenose dolphin in ‘Dolphin Tale.’ Her philosophy on always working hard and making sure you know what it is you want to be in life will resound with me forever. <

Since the beginning of their relationship in 2005, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, also known as, “Brangelina,” have become one of the World’s most famous celebrity couples. Brad and Angelina first met on the set of the film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2004. After denying multiple rumors of a relationship in 2005, Angelina announced to the public that she was pregnant with Brad’s child in 2006 and the rest “they say” is history. The Jolie-Pitts are famously known for their large family brood, including three adopted children, Maddox Chivan who was born in Cambodia, Zahara Marley adopted from Ethiopia, Pax Thien who is from Vietnam, and three biological children, Shiloh Nouvel, and twins, Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline. Angelina Jolie, who is listed as the highestpaid actress in Hollywood, according to a Forbes report in 2011, brings in an estimated $30 million per year, and Brad Pitt, who is listed as one of Forbes highest-paid actors, brings in around $20 million. Together they donate large amounts of money to charities every year and help support humanitarian efforts around the world.

a 911, holding true to the Porsche 911 Carrera ‘evolution, not revolution’ design philosophy. The 100 mm or 3.9 inch longer wheelbase and reduced overall height underpin the fresh, athletic yet elegant appearance. When viewed from the front, the eye is drawn to the 911’s trademark
wide-arched fenders, emphasizing the wider front track. The side mirrors are now mounted on the upper edge of the door, which also helps highlight the new design line and gives the visual impression of width. ...
toys
The new lightweight body is an aluminumsteel composite construction and contributes greatly to the 45 kg or about 100 lbs weight reduction when compared to the previous 911 body. When combined with the greater structural rigidity and optimized aerodynamics – including a wider, variably extending rear spoiler – the new 911 Carrera’s front and rear lift has been reduced to near zero while retaining the Cd value of 0.29.
systems such as the Automatic Start Stop function, engine and transmission thermal management, electrical system recuperation, the world’s first seven-speed manual transmission and – in conjunction with the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) – the ability to ‘sail’ or coast. The new electro-mechanical power steering offers not only Porsche’s typical precision and feedback but also helps increase efficiency and reduce fuel-consumption.
To complement the modern exterior design, Porsche designers created an interior reminiscent of the Carrera GT. The driver is now even more closely integrated within the cockpit thanks to the rising center console and high-mounted shift lever or gear selector located close to the steering wheel. As with the exterior, classic Porsche elements abound inside. Present is the instrument cluster with five round gauges – one of them a high resolution multifunction screen, and of course the central tachometer and the ignition lock to the left of the steering wheel.
For example, the 911 Carrera with the new 350 hp, 3.4-liter boxer engine and optional PDK consumes 8.2 l/100 km based on the NEDC – 1.6 l/100 km less than its predecessor.
Setting the standard in its class, as it has for generations, the new 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S raise the performance and efficiency bar yet another notch. All versions get by with significantly less than 10 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (official U.S. EPA fuel mileage estimates are TBD) and fuel consumption and emissions are up to 16 percent lower in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) when compared with the predecessor. This is achieved through
The 911 Carrera S with its 400 hp, 3.8-liter boxer engine – 15 hp more than before – achieves 8.7 l/100 km in the NEDC when paired with the optional PDK transmission. This represents a fuel consumption decrease of 14 percent or 1.5 l/100 km. At the same time there are performance improvements in both models. The 911 Carrera S with PDK accelerates from 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds. Using the Launch Control function of the optional Sport Chrono Package cuts that to 3.9 seconds. The 911 Carrera with PDK needs only 4.4 seconds to sprint from a standing start to 60 mph (4.2 seconds when using the optional Sport Chrono Package’s Launch Control function). Top-track speed for the 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera is 188 mph and 179 mph, respectively.
::
The new 911 offers both better longitudinal dynamics and unprecedented top performance in terms of transverse dynamics. In addition to the longer wheelbase, the greater agility, precision and driving stability are based, among other things, on the wider front track, the new rear axle and new electro-mechanical power steering. Depending on the model, there are other standard or optional active control systems available that can help further enhance the overall driving dynamics. That is especially true for the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) active roll stabilization system, available for the first time on the 911 Carrera S.The system helps reduce lateral roll when cornering and helps keep the tires in the optimal position relative to the road surface. The new 911 further extends the span of seemingly contradictory attributes such as performance and efficiency, sportiness and every day practicality that have always typified the Porsche 911. That makes the 911 Carrera more of a 911 than ever. The new Porsche 911 Carrera celebrates its world premiere at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The first new 911 models will arrive in U.S. dealerships beginning in February of 2012. The new 911 Carrera Coupe will have a base MSRP of $82,100, while the 911 Carrera S Coupe’s base MSRP will be $96,400 (excluding destination). Both models will include substantial additional equipment when compared to the previous models.<

THE FIFTH AMENDMENT: by Mark L. Horwitz > People think of the Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination as a tool used bythose who have violated the law. This is simply wrong.
The founding fathers who drafted the Constitution knew that without this protection, governments throughout history abused their citizens and punished the innocent. The Law Offices of Mark L. Horwitz - A Professional Association 17 E. Pine St. Orlando, FL 32801 407-843-7733 mark@mlhorwitzlaw.com www.mlhorwitzlaw.com
Today, people have the misconception that simply because someone has invoked their Fifth Amendment privilege, that person must be guilty. This belief can not be further from the truth.
State and federal governments continuously pass criminal laws that set forth complicated and hard to understand provisions that criminalize conduct far beyond what the constitution’s authors ever imagined. The Supreme Court of the United States has on more than one occasion recognized that the Fifth Amendment’s basic function is to protect the innocent who might otherwise be ensnared by ambiguous circumstances. Those ambiguous circumstances have become more likely as the complexities of criminal laws continues to grow. In 2001, the
Supreme Court of the United States specifically ruled that a person can claim to be innocent and still properly invoke the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination. False confessions, long extended interrogations, mistakes by police and countless other factors have resulted in convictions of the innocent. The right of a person not to be forced to be “a witness against himself” is not reserved for the guilty.<

Food for Thought: Francis Metais By: Jennifer Marcus Read more at: StyleToMe.com
> If the definition of a master is someone having great skill and proficiency, then Francis Metais, Director of Food and Beverage at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando and the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek, is a Grand Master. His experience and knowledge of food and food history far surpasses anyone else in his field holding the same position making the Waldorf Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek unique and revolutionary. “Food is the verbiage and writing of human kind,” shares Metais.
Francis Metais Director of Food and Beverage at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando and the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek
Most Directors of Food and Beverage have impressive resumes with business degrees, MBA’s, and are focused on managing their teams with the goal of big number profits. But Metais has a different approach. Metais is synonymous with passion. A passion for food. The quality of food. The history of food. And the experience food can bring to a person. When managing his team at the Waldorf, he doesn’t think about profits or lowering quality to cut costs. His vision is to find and maintain a team of workers that have the same passion and vision as himself. Metais is the perfect guy for this job. Not only was he born in France, which is arguably the food capital of the world, but he was also born into the food industry. His parents owned a small bar/ butchery/grocery store. Think Whole Foods but with a bar. He went on to study at the French Culinary School of Art in Paris, which was the best school in the world at the time. “We learned about dry hand cooking, catering, and special events so it was broad and gave me a good knowledge.”
“
In 1980, Metais was named Best Young Charcuterie in France. This championship earned him recognition and a job opportunity in the United States. He headed over to Arizona and opened four pastry shops and catering departments at Le Marche Gourmet and La Parisienne before becoming Executive Chef at the very chic restaurant, The White Truffle, in 1984. Just two years later, his name and ability caught the attention of the world’s most famous mouse. Our goal is quality
everywhere. Great food, great service, romantic, and family-oriented.
”

Metais became the Executive Chef at Chefs de France in Walt Disney World’s Epcot. He reported to the owners and founders who are three of the world’s most famous chefs including Paul Bocuse, which been named Chef of the Century, Gaston Lenôtre and Roger Verge. At this same time back over in Paris, the Walt Disney World
Bon Appetit
Corporation was developing Disneyland Paris, and wanted Metais on their staff. So back over the pond he went after four years in Orlando and he soon donned the title of Corporate Executive Chef. Managing 3,400 employees, developing new catering standards and creating 5-Star food and beverage operations became his focus for nine years before venturing on as the Director of Food and Beverage with Disney Cruise Line. By September 2003, he was back on American soil and was owner and partner of Orlando-based Anaelle & Hugo Restaurant and its 13,000 sq ft commercial pastry kitchen where he worked closely with Bocuse. The restaurant was recognized by Zagat as “America’s Top Restaurants.” In 2008, Metais accepted the job of Director of Hotel and Food Operations for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, which was awarded Best Luxury Cruise Line in the World. “I was traveling to Alaska, the Mediterranean, and even Antarctica, but it was hard always being on the road.” So in 2009, Metais put away his suitcase, came back to Orlando and found himself as the Director of Food and Beverage at the brand new Waldorf Astoria and Hilton Bonnet Creek. Because he has been at these hotels since their beginning, Metais has been able to use his decades of culinary experience to help develop, along with his team, cuisine that is imaginative, unique, and of impressive quality for its 11 restaurants as well as catering and in-room dining departments. Some of these include the famous Bull & Bear Steakhouse, where he has created and implemented a new menu, Oscars, Peacock Alley, the poolside Aquamarine, and La Luce Italian Restaurant, which was named Best New Restaurant and Best Wine List in Orlando.
would find on your typical bar menu, but the creations are in a class of their own.The shells are created from 90 percent real plantain chips, combined to form dough that is lighter and more magnificent than any typical taco shell. Metais conjured up this brilliant recipe when he was in Columbia and picked up a smashed plantain chip. He immediately thought of a way to incorporate it in such a way that would have customers asking, “mmm, what is that?” At the Waldorf, even the croissants are not overlooked. In fact, every few months, the chefs have a two-hour seminar to revisit the technique of how to make the perfect croissant keeping it delicate, buttery, and flaky. And it truly is the best croissant you’ll ever have. “Our goal is quality everywhere. Great food, great service, romantic, and familyoriented.” One of the exclusive offers the Waldorf and Metais have come up with is in-room dining taken to a whole new level. It is more than your average room service experience. Let’s say you have had a long day at the theme parks and are exhausted but still want a high quality, private meal. At the hotel, you can have a delicious dinner from one of the brilliant restaurants served in your room, with your own private server. He or she will be there to fill your wine glass, bring different courses, and offer anything you might need or want to try. Dinners can be customized and designed around what you enjoy. It’s almost like a Chef’s table but in your hotel room.
“What makes these hotels standout is the attention to detail and the quality and diversity of the food. We try to use the best ingredients and keep it as authentic as possible.”
As the holidays are arriving quickly, the Waldorf Astoria will be celebrating along with the season and offering an exquisite Bar du Chocolat in Peacock Alley. There will be thirty different chocolaty items including hot chocolate, chocolate caramels, and a gluten-free chocolate cookie made with lentils that Metais insists you’ll never know! But you can be assured that this could be quite possibly the best chocolate you’ve tasted if Metais had a hand in it.
Take for instance the shrimp tacos served on the “bar menu” at Peacock Alley. Quotes are needed for that description because the food might bear similar names to what you
He was awarded two gold medals in ‘chocolate carving’ and ‘coco painting’ and two gold medals in ‘chocolate candy’ and ‘chocolate cake’ in 1989. He also has an award

for ‘Most Sinful Dessert Contest’ and Best Chocolatier of the Year for the Midwest. And for the first time, the hotel will offer a WA Collection of Chocolates, which will be boxed and available for purchase. Another exclusivity with the hotel for the holidays is their New Years Eve package. For $2012 you and a guest will be treated to a one-of-a-kind experience! Waldorf Astoria Orlando New Year’s package includes a deluxe suite for two-nights (Fri & Sat), breakfast in Oscar’s each day; 2 rounds of golf and spa treatments for two; the exclusive Bull & Bear New Year’s Eve dinner extravaganza and a private black tie party in Sir Harry’s featuring free-flowing Perrier-Jouët Champagne. One of the most fascinating characteristics of Metais is that he really appreciates the history of food. He won’t just cook food. He needs to understand the food and where it came from to get the best creation. “What was yesterday is food for tomorrow.” With his combination of skills and a phenomenal and gorgeous hotel to work in, Metais is a perfect fit at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek. His culinary resume might impress you but tasting the food at these hotels is so much more delicious. For more information please visit: WaldorfAstoriaOrlando.com HiltonBonnetCreek.com <

> Anggun’s fate has followed a musical, spiritual, and geographical path. Her father, a writer, instilled in her a sense of the power of words and poetry. At an early age, dance, singing, and the piano became natural ways of expressing herself, and the stage became one big playground. Her homeland, Indonesia, and its 13,000 islands fell in love with her and watched her grow into a beautiful young woman. After starting out as a child mascot, she went on to embody the fascination of her country’s youth for the West and the excitement of rock. Her albums sold in the millions, her live gigs filled stadium after stadium, and the whole of Southeast Asia fell for her. But this budding woman was already dreaming of greater things, of traveling across the ocean and having the courage to start again from scratch. She did so first in London and then in Paris where a few crucial encounters led her to sign for a major French record company in 1997. Her first meaningful success in France was “La Neige au Sahara,” which was the most popular track on French radio in 1998, and the album went double gold. Over thirty-five other countries fell under her spell. America and its dreams were shimmering on the horizon. Italy also embraced her exotic soul songs with their classy French touch. The figures speak for themselves…
The first album was certified triple platinum export (over 900,000 copies sold), went Double-Platinum in Italy, Gold in France, Gold in Switzerland, Gold in Singapore, Gold in Finland, Platinum in Malaysia, Triple-Platinum in Indonesia. And so on. The album even broke into the Billboard Heatseekers Chart’s Top 20 in the US! The second album was a major hit as well, going platinum export. “Chrysalis” was certified Gold in Italy within a week of being released! The first single “Still Reminds Me” charted in the European Top 5 Singles charts. Naturally, Anggun’s success also included a large number of concerts and events abroad (World Music Awards, MTV Awards, Silver Screen Awards, Top of the Pops, Women Inspire Awards, a concert for the Pope at the Vatican, etc.). This constant, endless traveling has taken her farther and farther away from France. Yet the two million albums she sold worldwide in less than 5 years made Anggun one of the French record industry’s biggest success stories, alongside the likes of Air, Manu Chao, and Daft Punk. As a woman with a foot in two different cultures, she is a messenger of musical harmony who pours out her heart, sometimes wounded by being away, often reinvigorated by adventure. Anggun’s career and talent are unique. France opened its doors to her, and Anggun has opened her heart. To millions of fans, she is a living example of
a free woman who combines the grace and inspiration of French and Asian culture. Luminescence In 2004, Anggun brought out an elegant and precious album entitled “Luminescence,” which was greeted with rave reviews by the media and the public alike. Featuring a number of prestigious guests, “Luminescence” established Anggun’s reputation for good and was certified platinum in France and for export. Her second single, “Saviour/Cesse la Pluie,” was the most played Frenchspeaking song on radio stations overseas in 2005 and spent more than 15 consecutive weeks in the French Top 40 singles chart. Luc Besson chose the song as the theme tune for his US blockbuster “The Transporter 2.” Then, at the end of 2007, Anggun was once more in the news when she sang in the BBC film “Planet Earth.” Elevation In 2007, Anggun called on some big names from the hip-hop scene such as Pras from The Fugees to deliver an album with a resolutely urban sound that surprised listeners. With its staccato rhythms, urban flow, and powerful production, Anggun once more struck out from the beaten track and showed her considerable talent where we least expected it. She took a real ar-

tistic risk and was rewarded with a gold-export Award in France and a phenomenal 8-times Platinum Award in her native country, Indonesia. Her committed work for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations As an artist, Anggun only sees any value in fame if it enables her to promote a message of universal importance. Already deeply conscious of in the major issues facing today’s world, Anggun accepted immediately when the FAO asked her to be one of its Goodwill Ambassadors. Anggun devotes a great deal of time and effort to her role as a spokeswoman for the organization’s essential programs, in particular the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals), a road map for global leaders in order to ensure that everyone on the planet has adequate nutrition.

Anggun has carried this message to the four corners of the globe and to her adoring fans, encouraging them, for example, to sign a large-scale petition against global hunger (www.1billionhungry.org). She attracts to encourage people everywhere to make the world a fairer and more harmonious place. <

Don‘t Miss the beat
> A special time of year is upon us yet again; luxurious scarves are relevant, pumpkin spiced everything is available, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation marathons are in full effect. And of course, it’s time to jam to some holiday music! Whether you prefer Divas singing high notes, the cool, purring sound of Frank Sinatra, or angelic choirs that send chills to the soul, tis the season to blare some holiday tunes. Can a person really overdose on Bing Crosby in December? Absolutely not. Anticipation is always high to hear who will be releasing their first album with a Yule Tide message. It’s even more amazing when the time comes to create your first playlist after these declarations. Some classic songs will be the canvas for many artists to showcase their festive side. We’re especially thrilled to remind you of three in particular- not to forget from iTunes!
Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire... Carole King, Michael Buble & Justin Bieber By: Megan Hyde Read more at: StyleToMe.com
Up first is the delightfully songful Carole King with not only her first album in a decade but her first ever Christmas album. King is known for her earthy and rhythmic sound and these sounds can be heard throughout her new release, A Holiday Carole. Since rising to fame five generations ago she has remained an extremely preferred artist who delivers good music consistently. With over 25 records since 1968 and countless appearances on numerous collaborations, Carole is trying a whole new musical venture with her holiday efforts. A Holiday Carole, features 12 holiday songs that leads right into to the New Year. A variety of options to purchase are available via Carole’s website with different gift packages that include everything from the CD itself to a special edition ornament and an autographed print. This is a great gift that will keep on giving year after year. Another fabulous release would be the always debonair and especially handsome Michael Buble. Michael Buble Christmas

offers definitive Christmas tunes and also one original song. As if this isn’t enough already, Target is hosting a deluxe version with three additional tracks to sip hot chocolate while listening to Michael. Michael explained to ABC News his reasoning for doing a Christmas album: “I wanted to make a record that would outlive me. And I wanted to do for people what Bing Crosby did for me...he introduced me to the world of jazz and melody. And I didn’t want to be hip or edgy. I just wanted to make a really sweet Christmas record that the kids can grow on.” Michael constantly provides his audience with smooth, old-world charm with every song he sings. There is no doubt this album would be anything less than cheerful, holiday perfection. Another artist spreading joyful jingles would be Justin Bieber. His first try at the holiday classics, Justin contributes to the world Under the Mistletoe for its listening pleasure. Collaborations with Usher, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Busta Rhymes and (last month’s Don’t Miss the Beat featured musicians) The Band Perry, provoke the utmost of holiday fun-filled moments. The Biebs, with a voice slightly more evolved and grown up, is absolutely taking part in the giving aspect of the season. It’s safe to say many, many fans will be thankful this Christmas. Proof of this already? Justin’s co-written original hit of the album, A Christmas Story (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open fire), is a duet with his mentor R&B singer Usher. It achieved over seventeen million views within a week of going live. Wishing to kiss him under the mistletoe- OK- reality check: these admirers would prefer their album under the tree. The most wonderful time of year is among us. A unity is in the air to help out our fellow man and spread good cheer to all. Munching on candy canes, sipping Eggnog and delighting in pleasant-sounding songs from these three, first time Christmas albums is the way to go. Indulge in Carole King, Michael Buble and Justin Bieber and don’t be shy to hit replay. It’s the time for spirits to be bright, joyful, and super happy to the tunes of wonderful music.<

Ask Dr. Newman
am interested in having plastic Q: Isurgery on my breasts and abdomen. I have never done this sort of thing before and do not know where to begin. Any help?
A: Today more than ever, there is
so much information available to patients that it is hard to know what to believe. The media and Internet may tout some new technology as the latest and greatest. Some of these techniques are unfortunately often times ahead of the science necessary to validate these procedures. For this reason, it is best to begin with a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. E-mail your questions or concerns to Charles E. Newman, Jr. M.D. of Newman Plastic Surgery info@newmanplasticsurgery.com
A recent multi-series report in USA Today examined the recent boon in non-plastic surgeons delving into the cosmetic surgery arena. This worrisome trend is becoming increasingly prevalent in our state. Frequently these practitioners are inadequately
trained and lack the ability and expertise to deliver the desired results. Patient safety can also be placed at risk. Unfortunately, there is insufficient regulation and patients must be avid consumers, and at a minimum, should obtain the following information: 1) Insist on meeting the surgeon who will perform the procedure in advance 2) Check whether the facility is accredited 3) Find out whether he or she is board certified in plastic surgery 4) Find out if there is a history of disciplinary action 5) Does the surgeon have hospital privileges?
The consultation is an important opportunity for questions to be asked and answered. It should include a candid discussion of risks as well as benefits of the surgery. A thorough consultation also involves a review of medical history including any existing medical conditions. All these factors help the surgeon to custom-tailor the operation to best meet the needs of each patient. To paraphrase a mentor of mine, the best surgeons are those that can manage you through the best of times and also the worst of times. If something is not going as well as you would like, the doctor is going to be there for you and carry you through that period. Flu Prevention Day By: Cathleen K. Bode Credits: Kayla Hernandez Read more at: StyleToMe.com
> The temperatures decrease while the risk of getting the flu increases. We try to avoid this viral infection, but 10% to 20% of Americans catch it annually. Fortunately, there are new tips for preventing the flu.
out the season for extra precaution.
Snack
Sleep In when you can
Yogurt is full of probiotics, aka immun booster. Add a little granola and some berries for an extra kick.
There is no getting around the vaccine. People who are afraid of needles can avoid a shot with an effective alternative: a nasal spray. Make sure to get either one as soon as they become available. The peak of the flu season is in December, so it’s best to get it by then. Vaccine effectiveness varies from one person to another. Studies of healthy young adults have shown influenza vaccine to be 70 percent to 90 percent effective in preventing illness. In the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions, the vaccine is often less effective in preventing influenza than in reducing the severity of the illness and the risk of serious complications and death. Research has shown the vaccine to reduce hospitalization by about 70 percent and death by about 85 percent in independent seniors. Some possible side effects are soreness and temporary fatigue from the shot and a runny nose, sore throat, or headache from the nasal spray.
Breakfast
Turn off those obnoxious alarm clocks. Sleep strengthens your immune system.
Sauna
Make an omelet. Eggs and Swiss cheese have large amounts of vitamin D, which is an important vitamin in preventing the flu. Pair that with a glass of 100% real (vitamin C abundant) orange juice. Shop
Search for a vinyl or leather bag. Stow away your cloth handbags in exchange for one that germs can be easily wiped off with a swipe of an antibacterial wipe. Lunch
Try a tuna fish sandwich, and a side salad with ‘garlic’ dressing.Tuna fish is loaded with vitamin D and garlic is rich in phytonutrients, which have antiviral properties. Do what makes you happy
styletome.com
Dinner
Get in a dose of vitamin D from smoked salmon. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day! Go to Bed Early
Have a cup of antioxidants/decaffeinated green tea to wind down your day. Turn off the light and sleep tight…
It’ll keep you stress free! Gym
This is where Flu Prevention Day comes in. It’s a day that integrates many of the tips for keeping the risk of catching the flu down. Regularly disperse these methods through-
Being exposed to high temperatures creates an artificial fever state stimulating the immune system, which results in an increased production of antibodies and interferons. (Use common sense on this one, as it is not safe to stay in high temperatures for too long.)
Spend at least 30-60 minutes a day doing whatever aerobic exercise you find least painful. Pat yourself on your shrinking ‘behind.’ You just boosted your antibodies.

Want To Put Your Best Face Forward This Holiday Season?
Dr. Palceski looks forward to hearing from you and will be accepting questions at drp@reflectionsdermatology.com or call 407-895-8818 Dr. Palceski is a Board Certified Dermatologist and Dermatologic Surgeon and is the founder of Reflections Dermatology & Center for Skin Care. For more information on Dr. Palceski or his practice, please visit www.reflectionsdermatology.com

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays fast approaching, it’s time to begin thinking about what you can do to get your skin looking and feeling it’s best. Although the holidays are a festive time of year, they can also be a time of added stress. Even though some stress is a good thing, too much stress can cause cells to age faster. Keep stress under control by finding a suitable outlet to decompress. So sleep, eat (healthy), and be merry!
Botox® is the number one non-surgical cosmetic procedure performed year after year and for good reason – it delivers consistent and remarkable results. Botox® is a 5-minute virtually painless procedure with results that soften wrinkles leaving your skin looking younger and more refreshed. When performed by a qualified specialist such as a Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon, it is a safe procedure with little to no risk or downtime.
Now that we have the fundamentals under control, there are two “quick fix” procedures that I find to be true homeruns in getting your skin looking great in time for the holidays! First, Botox®, and the second, photo-facials. As I’ve often discussed, research has identified two key determinants in how others perceive your age 1) skin tone or texture and 2) wrinkles. Both of my “quick fix” recommendations do a phenomenal job in addressing these key factors.
To help improve skin tone and texture, consider treating yourself to a Photo-facial. Photo-facials are the perfect non-ablative laser procedure for improving your skin’s overall appearance. The truth is, a series of these treatments can literally take years off of how old your skin looks. Photo-facials are performed using an intense pulsed light (IPL) device that targets brown and red pigment in the skin including sun damage, age spots, and broken capillaries. Following your procedure, the treated
area becomes increasingly dark and/ or inflamed and gradually sloughs off over a period of 4-5 days revealing clearer and more healthy looking skin. An added benefit of this procedure is that it also stimulates the production of collagen, a protein responsible for maintaining fullness and elasticity in the skin. There is one caveat - Not all photofacials are created equal. Beware of offices that advertise extremely low pricing, as they are likely using equipment that is inadequate and won’t give you the results that you are looking for. We use Palomar’s Starlux 500 at our office and I believe it to be the gold standard for this type of procedure. I also have great respect for the technology offered by Lumenis. Treat yourself to these “quickfixes” in time for the holidays and give yourself the gift of healthy and younger looking skin!

Bow-Wow, Meow
Christmas List By: Cathleen K. Bode
> While you’re out fighting for a parking spot, and squeezing through crowds of shoppers this holiday season it can be easy to forget about your loyal companion, your pet. So, what do you get your attention-seeking confidant?
Credits: Kristina Gavilaness Read more at: StyleToMe.com
Here are a few items purr-fect for your trendy pet
Beverly Hills Mutt Club, a high-end pet boutique based in Los Angeles has an online shop for the chicest pets. You will find canine couture and jewels that Sandra Bullock, and Jamie Lee Curtis just had to have for their pets. One of the best sellers are the Safari Swarovski crystal retractable leads that range from $220-$265. Add this great bling to compliment your sweetie.
Does your pet dig modern art? The DNA Pet Portrait from Petgadgets.com gives you a unique way of celebrating the great spirit of your pal. The process is quick and painless; just a swab from your pet’s mouth, and the result of the portrait is remarkable. The DNA Pet Portrait is $199 and can be created for virtually any mammal or reptiles. Every masterpiece will be as unique as your pet.
Where does your pet sleep at night? Yoox.com provides a great selection of luxurious beds for your furry friend. The Sofa 0’ is a work-of-art made of lacquered ceramics. Designed in Paris, and hand-shaped by French craftsmen. The contemporary innovation of this sofa will bring perfection to your home. It is a limited edition of only one hundred pieces made and cost $7,100..
For those restless furry sleepers- Is your pet tired of the same old paw printed squishy bed products pet stores seem to never have enough of? WOWBOW London has a fresh outlook on bedding and dining for your best friend. The beds range from $1,090- $2,208 and higher, and the dining table at $358 - $455. The Mija line of pet furniture is functional and aesthetically pleasing for your home. The beds are created with thick acrylic, furnished with faux suede cushions, and filled with memory foam. Tail wagging friends, say goodbye to those sleepless nights!
Who doesn’t like to show off their drooling prize possession? What better way to spoil them then with a fresh scent that will keep our pals smelling great? A 100% vegan fragrance ‘Sexy Beast’ has come to our rescue. With a classic blend of bergamot, vanilla, mandarin, and nutmeg oils your pet will be guaranteed to smell amazing. The signature fragrance will set you back $65. If you really want to splurge on your loyal friend ‘Sexy Beast’ has a limited edition bottle covered in Swarovski crystals for $850. Did I mention that you can get your pet’s name engraved on the bottle?
No matter what day of the year our pets love us day in, and day out. With the holidays coming around, this Christmas list is a great way to spoil ourselves- OOPS- our hairy pals with gifts they would love! (^-^) <
