DROPS IN HOLLAND BECOME PINTS IN AMERICA. The people of Holland craft a mighty fine brew, that’s why every drop of Heineken is taken straight from Amsterdam. Every. Single. Drop. And if these pints could talk, well, we’d need someone who spoke Dutch.

publisher’s note

Wake up Tampa Bay we are here now!

> Thank you, our readers and subscribers, for expressing your interest in Tampa Bay’s newest and “hip” publication. Our simple business ideology is to offer interesting and vivid articles and imagery to the people living and visiting the Tampa Bay area. Our “hip” concept is extremely successful in Orlando (Orlando Style) where we became the No.1 magazine within a short amount of time. We believe the people of Tampa Bay will embrace the energetic and positive attitude of Tampa Style, and adopt it as YOUR monthly source of “Who’s who and What to do” in Tampa, St. Pete, and Clearwater. We decided to come to Tampa Bay because of the primary ingredient that makes a city great.... the People! This summer issue we parallel this into a step forward toward publishing globalization or for now “Floridazation” of our Style magazines. Our expansion is in full gear with the addition of our Tampa Style publication, which you our readers have embraced and helped us accomplish, a magazine concept that is exciting, local, unpredictable, and what people really want to read. In this issue, check out the great work done by our ‘N Style team with their outstanding fashion shoot of amazing framework titled ‘Framed’. Further, we think that you’ll agree that Ybor is Smokin Hot in Tampa Bay! Finally, I leave you with one of my favorite quotes: “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs

in the square holes… the ones who see things differently – they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do” – Steve Jobs, Apple. As always, we thank our readers and advertisers who make it possible for us to bring our messages out into the mainstream public. I welcome your comments: sven@styletome.com < All the very best, Sincerely.

Smokin’ Hot

Cuban cigars are synonymous with Ybor City, but Tampa Bay’s love affair with sophisticated smoking has spread all across the region. Chances are there’s a great cigar lounge in your neighborhood. BY GINGER WARDER

> In 1885, Don Vicente Martinez Ybor brought his Cuban cigar manufacturing business to Tampa Bay. Little did he know that a city would be named after him, one that would be proclaimed the cigar capital of the world. By 1929, the Ybor factories were producing more than 500 million cigars, shipping and selling them all over the globe. Although the cigar industry gradually declined during the twentieth century, Ybor and his talented Hispanic craftsmen are still an integral part of our history. What makes a great cigar bar? Hand-rolling, an eclectic and exclusive selection, a walk-in humidor, good ventilation, a large selection of wines, cognacs, beers and a convivial atmosphere are important to cigar afi cionados. ...

Today, master tabaqueros still hand-roll cigars in our quirky Latin quarter, and Bay area residents have more than a dozen fine cigar lounges and smoke shops to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Where else to start our search for the best cigar bars in Tampa Bay than in their Ybor City birthplace? The King Corona Café and Bar on 7th Avenue (kingcoronacigars.com) is owned by a fifth-generation cigar family who know every facet of the business from the leaf up. Featuring handmade cigars from Ybor City and around the world, as well as their own King Corona brand, the café features an upscale Cuban coffee bar with free Internet, authentic Cuban and Latin American music, a vibrant patio, and a unique gift shop that sells everything from cigar molds and smokes to Cuban Guayaberas and Panama hats. Since the café serves breakfast, sandwiches, tapas, and beer and wine, it’s a regular meeting spot from morning ’til night for Ybor residents and regulars. The café stocks a

line of flavored cigars for the ladies, and there’s even an adjoining barbershop for busy executives who need a haircut with their morning café con leche. This is the Cuban version of Cheers, a social mecca well worth a visit whether you smoke or not. Located in Centro Ybor, Stogie Castillo’s Cigar Lounge & Factory (stogiecastillos.com) is a relative newcomer to the Ybor cigar scene, opening just under four years ago. Owner Ivan Castillo turned his avocation into his vocation when he opened this wine bar that features hand-rolled cigars from Central and South America. The bankerturned-bar-owner studied with master rollers for several months to come up with his own unique blends like the Robusto Suave, a smooth blend of Dominican and Honduran tobaccos. This customer favorite is touted as being “Stogielicious!” A favorite of Bay area businessmen who love the free WiFi and waterside location, LIT Premium Cigar Lounge (litcigarlounge.com) in

Channelside has a full liquor bar, state-ofthe-art ventilation system, comfy couches and a plethora of plasma televisions. Patrons can unwind with a cocktail and select their smoke of choice from hundreds of premium cigars in the walk-in humidor. Stored at a 70-degree temperature and 70percent humidity, LIT’s selection includes top brands from around the world, as well as a full line of smoking accessories. If you loved Bern’s upstairs or the old Café Cigar Bar at the Columbia, you’ll feel right at home here. The cigar cultures and traditions of Puerto Rico and Cuba come together with a modern twist at Latin Quarter House of Cigars (lqhouseofcigars.com) on St. Pete Beach. Master Blender Ramon Luis “Willie” Martinez Santaliz uses his Puerto Rican expertise to create exotic minivintages and custom blends, while Master Roller Addit Bruto calls on his Cuban heritage for its hand-rolling techniques. Blue Smoke Cigar Bar (bluesmokecigarbar. com) in Clearwater specializes in handrolled premium cigars from the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua, perfect companions for their large selection of imported beers and microbrews. This casual and clubby lounge has a walk-in humidor packed with popular cigars from Cuesta Rey and Cohiba to Arturo Fuente and Macanudo, and their new wine bar offers a large list of fine wines and Champagnes.

Personal & Corporate Branding with Style By: Brandi L. Kamenar, Personal Branding Expert and CEO of Icon B. Marketing & Publicity Group Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> If you’ve ever thought of yourself as loyal to a brand, then at some level, you appreciate the value of branding. What many people may not understand though, is how personal branding actually works. Whether you’re a CEO or a stay-at-home mom, it is imperative to BE your brand in everything you do. I’m sharing my firsthand branding insights because I’ve recently undergone some personal rebranding myself and in it, discovered a need to expand my business to the west coast. Icon B. will now serve Los Angeles, in addition to Tampa and New York. Personal branding is my true passion. Discovering your own personal brand involves an inside out assessment. This examination should consider how you feel, speak, look, think and build relationships. Understanding who you are, is key to improving your business or personal brand. I began my professional career as a model where success meant gracing the cover of a magazine. My main branding exercise was in staying fit. My brand was my body, face and hair and I dedicated myself to making those assets their best.

Whether you’re a CEO or a stay-at-home mom, it is

imperative to BE your brand in everything you do.

styletome.com

When I launched Icon B. Marketing & Publicity Group, I did not realize my model exterior would potentially threaten me as a professional. I decided to gain twenty pounds, cut my hair and dress conservatively. My hard-earned credibility was confirmed through client successes and receiving many awards including, Distinguished Top 10 PR Firms in Tampa Bay, Business Woman of the Year and Winner, Top 40 under 40. I was a capable professional worthy of handling high-

profile accounts, but am convinced I would not have seen the same opportunities had I not undergone the overall rebranding. Today, as I expand my business, I couldn’t feel happier, personally and professionally. I find great satisfaction in building and managing client brands. My transition has meant downsizing my personal life in Tampa and more travel. I’ve since lost those twenty pounds and landed in a comfort zone, where I am confident and content. What I’d like to share with Style readers is, when you put yourself out there and in the right places, you instantly open doors for your own success. While at the Beverly Hills Hotel in L.A. recently, I met recording artist Mary J. Blige. We talked about how she uses her voice for women’s rights. We discovered we are both following our hearts and fulfilling our dreams while working to make a difference. Our amazing chance meeting confirmed that I was “home” in L.A. and that I was meant to expand my personal branding business there. TAKE-AWAY TIP: Style comes from within. Note what you believe isn’t working in your life. Build a plan to implement changes and focus on your happiness. Are you limiting yourself because you lack confidence, skills or motivation? Have the courage to journey within. Lead with your heart and not your head to set yourself free and define your true sense of self and style! <

Behind the Eyes of Kat

> Kat Ebert lives and works out of her home studio in Maitland, Florida. She was born in upstate New York and has always been intrigued with nature’s high drama.

By: Cathleen K. Bode

“I have painted in watercolors, acrylics and in recent years paper collage on large-scale canvas,” says Kat. She is known for her multi-layering collages with bold, jubilant colors that are created using various fabrics and varieties of paper and tissue. She approaches the canvas with ease and spontaneity resulting in a piece of art filled with movement and emotion and she has a natural inborn taste in color and design. Whether it be a face or a natural landscape, they draw the viewer in with visual interest and excitement. The use of old magazines and various papers are collected from her travels. “Where ever I go, I look for local art stores where I can browse for fabrics and papers that I may not find locally,” says Kat. It makes my travels even more exciting.”

She has not been formally educated, however she has studied with some of the best artists around. Eli e Doctors > In prefacing this introduction, we’d like to offer an observation, which should be of interest to all. Regardless of medical school class rankings, graduates are all referred to as “DOCTOR.” With this revelation, we should all know that when choosing a physician, one must accept responsibility for adequately researching the doctor he or she is considering. Within our present day society, most licensed to practice medicine are truly miracle workers whether they are completely restructuring someone’s face or saving a life. As much as we realize that every physician is an asset to our community, we also know that some have established themselves at the top of their profession and are considered special; these are the ‘elite’, the very best of the best. When seeking perfection, we search for the professional who has made it his or her life goal to excel within a field of specialization through many years of study, dedication and determination, continually challenging themselves to advance their knowledge; these brilliant human beings not only save lives but also enrich their communities with a skill set second to none. Beyond this and in order to stay abreast of the latest, almost daily changing medical advancements, the ‘elite’ undergo rigorous maintenance, updating through seminars, conferences and advanced studies to keep current with new technology and procedures. In adding our ‘Elite Doctors’ section with this issue, we present a group of physicians, all of whom are reputable, Board Certified in their areas of expertise and extremely well recognized within our community. Our objective is to initiate a continuing dialogue with our readers, with an aim toward personalizing some of the finest doctors available in the Central Florida area.<

Through that unique experience he had the opportunity to have first hand exposure of treating patients with multiple facial deformities through the Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This sparked a long journey which lead Dr. Ghurani with his dental background to complete his surgical training in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), which included obtaining his medical degree at The University of Miami School of Medicine. It was that period that opened his eyes to the exciting world of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. After completing his OMFS training Dr. Ghurani set out on a path to qualify for proper training and certification in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. That was achieved by completing further training in General Surgery after which he matriculated at the University of South Florida College of Medicine Plastic Surgery Residency program under the directorship of David J. Smith Jr., MD. Prior to starting the plastic surgery residency at USF he had the opportunity to spend a year long fellowship with world renowned Plastic Surgeon Dr. S. A. Wolfe that specializes in Craniofacial Surgery. The wealth of experience acquired by dealing with congenital malformations and complex head and neck reconstruction placed Dr. Ghurani at a unique advantage to have good command of the foundation and skills needed to perform aesthetic surgery. At the completion of his plastic surgery training Dr. Ghurani was asked to stay on faculty as Assistant Professor of Surgery at USF division of Plastic Surgery. Due to the unique partnership between USF and Moffit Cancer Center he was able to accumulate a vast experience in reconstructive surgery of the breast amongst other oncologic reconstruction. The high volume opportunity at USF helped solidify his abilities and comfort level in plastic surgery of the face and body.

Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has continued to evolve over the years. Multiple modalities have since emerged to add to our armamentarium. When seeking aesthetic enhancement we encourage you to research the qualifications of your Surgeon. > When assessing their own beauty, Dr. Charles Newman, Jr. says some women have a hard time seeing beyond their perceived flaws. “Patients sometimes say things like ‘just fix it’ or ‘just make it go away’, requesting procedures they believe will miraculously eliminate their specific problem area.” He cautions however, that “just fix it” procedures don’t always yield the results truly desired because the modification can throw off the balance of the patient’s overall appearance. “The nose pictured in the magazine may look great on that particular celebrity, but it won’t necessarily work aesthetically with your eyes, cheeks, jaw line, etc. Our goal is to help patients claim whole beauty. It’s not about erasing or replacing individual parts. Our aim is to help uncover, enhance, and refine what is uniquely and authentically beautiful about you in a comprehensive and balanced way.” Understanding the intricacies of aesthetic balance is part of what sets Dr. Newman apart. “There is a subtlety required in all procedures, even when extreme results are sought,” says Dr. Newman. “Subtlety is what ensures that people notice you and not the work you’ve had done, which is ultimately what most patients desire.” To enhance and complement surgical results, and for patients seeking non-surgical alternatives, Newman Plastic Surgery offers a breadth of available products and services including injectables and peels, spa services, and topquality, results-oriented skin care lines. The other distinguishing aspect of Dr. Newman’s practice is authentic compassion. Going beyond basic respectful treatment and courtesy, which should be expected at any doctor’s office, Dr. Newman and his staff strive to make their patients’ experience more personal. “We understand the deep vulnerability involved in showing a stranger your perceived flaws. > With summer rolling through, many of us find ourselves soaking up the sun looking for a beautiful bronze tan, but do we really need the sun for a sun-kissed glow? Even the Jersey Shore’s Snooki, the advocate for all things tan, has admittedly gone sunless. Ditching the UV rays will help us in the long run, but how do we get the tan we’re looking for now without the sun? There are a few ways to go about it, and each method lacks those harmful UV rays, but which one is best for you?

tricky part is finding the right technician to bronze you up. Spray Tan Booth

The spray tan booth is a foolproof method with complete privacy. In a salon, like the first, but the machine does the spraying. This method is generally more expensive and you’re done in about ten minutes. You still have to wait on the shower, but it is a great method for a person on a busy schedule, and the result is often a more natural looking tan.

Self- Tanners

A technician with a spray gun, usually in a salon, applies the airbrush tan. The process takes about 20-30 minutes, as the solution needs time to dry. You can wear as much or as little as you feel necessary. As long as you’re comfortable baring all in front of the lady with the gun, go for it! You will have to wait about five hours before you can see the result with this one. The bronzer will rinse off in the shower leaving you with a nice natural looking tan underneath. This method is typically cheaper than the spray tan booth. The

Self-tanners (lotions, creams etc.) are the most popular method. The most easily accessible and often the cheapest, but you’re taking your chances with this one. It may take a few trial runs before you find the right tanner and the right application technique, but once you do, you’re able to create the bronze glow you’re looking for instantly and in the comfort of your own home. <

Pêro Vaz de Caminha wrote a letter documenting Pedro Álvares Cabral’s voyage to Brazil and in it he said, “...their private parts were so exposed, so healthy and so hairless, that looking upon them we felt no shame.” At least, that’s how historians translated it. Who were men. Which explains why - out of a letter that was written by a Portuguese explorer to document the poignant and historical discovery of Brazil - the only thing we came away with is hairless private parts. Men!

> There once was a time in American history when a respectable two-piece swimsuit consisted of a gown from shoulder to knees plus a set of trousers with leggings going down to the ankles. This was right around the beginning of the 20th century, or what some women refer to as “the good ole days.” This type of swimwear did not require women to count calories or destroy every follicle of hair below the neck. But as is always the case with something great, there is someone who has to come along and ruin it. In this case it was Annette Kellerman, an underwater ballerina from Australia, who was (in my opinion) rightfully arrested for indecent exposure in 1907 because her swimsuit showed “arms, legs and neck.” After that Kellerman did what many criminals do after a high-profile arrest... she found a way to profit off of it. She started a line of “Annette Kellerman” swimwear and began to slowly shrink the bathing suit into the modern-day piece of silly string and dental floss we have today. In doing so Kellerman exposed us all to a great national injustice we didn’t even know existed: the Brazilian bikini wax. I would love to get inside the head of the very first person who decided that pouring hot wax “down there” and ripping the hair out by the roots was a splendid idea. According to Wikipedia the concept may have come from

Kellerman could not have possibly foreseen the kind of physical pain she would be inflicting on thousands of women every summer. Not to mention the emotional damage of swimsuit shopping because the search for the perfect swimsuit is much like searching for the Holy Grail; we think one exists, but it’s never been found. This doesn’t stop us from trying, though. Every year we embark on this crusade with the confidence that THIS will be the year we discover that magical piece of nylon fabric that lifts and tucks those areas that sag and hang... which is pretty much ALL areas. When a woman looks in the mirror all she sees is hanging flabs of fatty skin tissue. And wrinkles. So the swimsuit journey is an exhausting one and takes us through every store within 500miles of home. At each stop the swimsuit wages a nasty battle with our self-confidence and we soon realize we are no match. We end up settling for a swimsuit that flatters either the top OR the bottom. Clothing companies have yet to produce one that flatters both. It’s a cruel joke really, to make us always feel at least half self-conscious at the beach. Be that as it may, it is a small price to pay in support of the feminist movement where women like Kellerman fought for the right to wear what they wanted to wear! And in doing so also earned the right for future women to work two jobs while raising the kids and supporting their stay-at-home husbands. But I digress. The bathing suit blahs are actually easy to overcome. Instead of spending all that time and money on waxing and working out, spend them on a therapist. It’s a lot easier and cheaper to change the way you think about your body than to actually change your body. This way you’ll learn to love yourself through thick or thin.<

Sandpearl Resort: Destination Paradise By: Dana Damato Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> As the illuminating sun slowly set into the Gulf Coast horizon and the sky’s light slowly dimmed from a vibrant gold to the blackness of the nighttime sky, I couldn’t help but stare in awe of the beauty that nature has provided. As a gentle ocean breeze freely tousled my hair, I took a sip of my Chardonnay and gazed into the endless atmosphere feeling at my utmost state of serenity, relaxation, and rejuvenation of mind, body, and soul. It’s not everyday a Florida resident ever really considers traveling to a local destination for a weekend or week long getaway. It’s difficult to discover a unique gem that truly sets itself apart from any other well known destination. In my travels, I surely discovered one beautiful pearl that has set a whole new standard for Clearwater Beach and the west coast of Florida. Poised along 700 feet of Clearwater’s world famous and exquisite shoreline is where you will find a destination that rivals the ultimate luxury resorts known in this day and age. The Sandpearl Resort at Clearwater Beach is self explanatory right down to the name, a pearl in the sand.

Upon my arrival to the Sandpearl, my knowledge of a luxury resort was pretty set in my mind due to my previous stays at The Ritz- Carlton and Waldorf Astoria. However, I hadn’t previously heard of any other known Sandpearl Resort since it is currently the only one of its kind. The experience began with a warm welcoming from the valet staff, happy to assist me from the very moment I drove up to the bellman who delivered my luggage immediately from the car to my room. Walking into what seemed like a tropical palace of chandeliers, beautiful décor that offers an ambiance inspired by the Gulf waters, and a straight view outside overlooking an exquisite pool area which further led out to the ocean. My appreciation for luxury resorts went far beyond my idea of what I’ve seen in the city or on any other beach property. With jovial smiles from the front desk staff and an offering of

a crisp glass of Champagne, this was a welcoming I have never experienced before. The most important aspect of a vacation stay is the cuisine, and I was in for quite a treat with the selection presented at the Sandpearl Resort. Offering three remarkable choices for dining, the Sandpearl’s cuisine selection is by far the most appetizing and breathtaking all in one sitting. For a more intimate dining selection open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Caretta on the Gulf is the Sandpearl’s award winning AAA four-diamond restaurant that hovers above the beach with indoor seating, outdoor seating, and a private dining room. With seasonally inspired cuisine infused with South American, Caribbean, and other international flavors, Caretta on the Gulf’s culinary art is by far the most spectacular I have tasted in any other resort thus far. The restaurant features a ceviche bar, private wine room, lounge and bar, and magnificent sunset views. Also included as part of the culinary experience is a hands-on organic cooking class with executive chef, Steve Jordan, who offers healthy eaters his personal attention in an exclusive 10 person class sharing cooking tips for gourmet organic meals. For a more laid back setting inches from the sand with live island music at dusk, Tate Island Grill offers a casual dining experience complemented with an extensive cocktail menu. Watching the sun sinking into the Gulf and enjoying great company at dinner, Tate Island Grill is a perfect way to end the day and start the night. With the various attractions that surround the Sandpearl Resort such as the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, where the star of the Warner Brothers feature film, “A Dolphin’s Tale,” Winter the Dolphin resides, and the strip of shopping stores, restaurants, and lounges are located, my favorite attraction of all was Pier 60. Making my way down the beach from Sandpearl to Pier 60 after dinner, I began

to hear music and see crowds of people in the distance. Being an intrigued tourist making my way down to Pier 60 to see what all the hype was about, I came to see the features of artisans, crafts, streets performers, and live musical entertainment right there on the Pier. I asked around how often they put on this kind of celebration and was informed that these events happen every night of the week (weather permitting). The energy, music, mix of families, older couples, and younger crowds was the perfect bit of variety that allows visitors of all ages to have a great time. On an afternoon that I wasn’t feeling up to being out in the Sun, the next and best alternative was indulging in Sandpearl Spa services. A serene haven of natural beauty, the spa provides over 50 spa services, including water therapy, touch therapy, spa rituals, skin care, and salon services. The Sandpearl Spa facility offers seven treatment rooms, a therapeutic whirlpool with a cool shower, private relaxation rooms, a hydro tub, steam rooms and a deluxe couple’s treatment room with Swiss showers. Also accommodating the spa facilities is a world class fitness center that provides state of the art fitness equipment along with Yoga, Personal Training, and Tai Chi. As my days started either relaxing by the pool, soaking in some rays at the beach, exploring the area’s attractions, or simply spending time in the spa, I found a perfect quick grab-and-go dining option, The Marketplace. Offering a variety of pastries, fruit, cereal, and freshly prepared salads and sandwiches for fuel needed before a day out in the

sun. Best of all, The Marketplace brews signature Starbucks hot and cold drinks. Being a waterfront resort, the Sandpearl offers an array of boating activities. From kayaks to sailboats, the pleasure of relaxing on a vessel in the middle of the Gulf is an opportunity worth taking advantage of. On a particularly beautiful morning, my vessel of choice happened to be one of Clearwater’s most comfortable and luxurious yachts, Dolce Vita. The Dolce Vita is a 45’Seamaster, a self-contained vessel capable of longrange trans-oceanic cruising. As the Dolce Vita set sail into the Gulf, Captain Paul of Meetings Afloat, took the group on a fascinating excursion along the Intracoastal Waterway from Clearwater to Caladesi Island State Park. Cruising through the Mandalay Channel under the clear blue sky, we finally reached our destination at the park’s marina where we explored the private beach and enjoyed some R&R. Looking for a place to gather with families, renew old friendships, indulge in new experiences, and recharge your spirit? Then look no further. The sparkling Gulf of Mexico waters and warmth of a welcoming resort staff is ready and willing to make you their number one priority. The Sandpearl spirit awaits you. Star Gazing By: Tony Keena Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> For years, a friend of mine had dreamed of the perfect vacation with his wife, a South Seas cruise to New Zealand. Saving money was a challenge, but he worked at it, sometimes putting the money he was going to use for a stateside vacation into his “Kiwi Fund”. One day, when my friend opened his credit card bill, he discovered he had taken his dream vacation to the country of sun, sand, alpine slopes and vineyards; at least his name had been there, spending thousands of dollars, having a wonderful time. My pal’s identity had been hacked, stolen “molested” is the way he described it – by someone who had destroyed his dream. Eventually, thanks to a proactive credit card company, most of the expenses were credited back to him. He has yet to make that dream trip, but he has learned some valuable lessons.

There are over 10 million victims of identity theft each year. One out of 10 US consumers have been victimized in one way or another. According to Javelin Strategy & Research Co., credit card account fraud amounted to $31 billion in 2008 alone. Nearly half of IT victims discover someone has stolen their identity within three months or less of the theft, as my friend did, but between nine and 18% don’t discover someone has stolen their names and their financial lives for four or more years.

ple store their documents in the garage or simply toss them in the garbage.

Here are some common sense prevention strategies I suggest to my clients, many of whom have considerable wealth and name recognition, and, because they use bill paying services, place themselves at particular risk:

My friend’s credit card company was set up to spot identity theft on unusually large purchases – they quickly realized that he was making charges both in the US and in New Zealand at the same time. Make sure you know how all the credit card companies you use are set up to discover and stop IT. As my mother use to say, long before there were such things as credit cards, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

• Lighten your wallet of credit cards. Simple as that. • Never carry your social security card, birth certificate or passport with you unless necessary. • Never release personal information over the phone, through mail or via Internet unless you have an ongoing relationship with the company, or initiated the call.

• Install a firewall on your computer at home to keep hackers from getting into your hard drive. Research the best one for you. • Proactively remove your name from the marketing lists of the three credit reporting bureaus. This will cut down on those “preapproved” credit card offers which thieves love to get their hands on.

2012 Lamborghini Aventador Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> According to its tradition, Lamborghini’s new flagship bears the name of a bull – naturally, a particularly courageous specimen from the world of the Spanish Corrida. Aventador was the name of a bull that entered into battle in October 1993 at the Saragossa Arena, earning the “Trofeo de la Peña La Madroñera” for its outstanding courage.

For Lamborghini, design is always the beauty of aggressive power, the elegance of breathtaking dynamics. From the very first glance, the new Aventador is unmistakably a Lamborghini, clothed in the brand’s characteristic and distinctive design language – with its extremely powerful proportions, its exact lines and precise surfaces, and with taut muscularity in every one of its details. The designers in the Centro Stile Lamborghini have carefully developed this design language to give the Aventador a significant new edge. It is an avantgarde work of art, an incredibly dynamic sculpture, from the sharply honed front end through the extremely low roofline to the distinctive rear diffuser. Every line has a clear function, every form is dictated by its need for speed, yet the overall look is nothing less than spectacular and breathtaking. For the Aventador LP 700-4, the engineers in Lamborghini’s R&D Department have developed a completely new highperformance power unit – an extremely powerful and highrevving, but very compact power unit. At 235 kilograms (518 lb), it is also extremely lightweight. A V12 with 515 kW (700 hp) at 8,250 rpm sets a whole new benchmark, even in the world of super sports cars. The maximum torque output is 690 Newton meters (509 lb-ft) at 5,500 rpm. The extremely well-rounded torque curve, the bull-like pulling power in every situation, the spontaneous responsiveness, and last but not least, the finely modulated but always highly emotional acoustics are what make this engine a stunning power plant of the very highest order. The first customers will take delivery of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 in late summer 2011. <

Rihanna Moving On & Moving Up By: Megan Hyde Read more at: StyleToMe.com

styletome.com

Celebrity Soup

> In a career that’s been on the rise since she was 16 years old, Rihanna must feel like she is the only girl in the world by now. Unlike the song where she says she wants to be made to feel that way, Rihanna in real life continues shooting for the stars to make that idea her reality. When thoughts of a naturally beautiful, fan favorite; a devoted recording artist; a daring fashionista; a girl who isn’t afraid to talk back to fans and haters alike through Twitter, Rihanna should be on the tip of your tongue. Proving not only her talents but also her perseverance and strength through adversity, Rihanna is a source of inspiration to many. She is mastering not only her art but also the art of being an everyday human being who grants forgiveness and believes in acceptance. With just over five million Twitter followers and with 1.2 billion YouTube Vevo views, it doesn’t seem like her popularity and success are headed on a decline in the near future. At 23 today, she dominates the music charts, award ceremonies and red carpets everywhere. With over 70 various award show wins, including four Grammys’, four American Music awards and 18 Billboard awards this young, and to some wild artist, is certainly doing what she set out to accomplish. Several performances during those ceremonies prove Rihanna knows the power of her stage presence and how to give her fans a show to remember. Currently embarking on an 86 show worldwide tour, titled Loud, it’s easy to see this person is doing everything she can to give all she’s got and make not a lasting impression but a continuing one. This amazing life began in February of 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbados. Rihanna attended a top six school, which is known in the United States as a technical school, all the while beginning her path of being in the spot light. The super gifted darling grew up participating in talent shows, winning from singing the songs of her musical inspirations like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson. In 2003 friends introduced her to a music producer by the name of Evan Rodgers. Evan was vacationing with his wife, who also is from Barbados, when he heard the voice and saw the talent radiating from this young

girl. A meeting with the then president of Def Jam Records, JayZ, was set in motion. Upon meeting with Rihanna she was signed with the label quickly and began dedicating three months of hard work and determination to her debut album, Music of the Sun. It was released with a huge and positive reception from music enthusiasts the world over. Since the initial album, four more have followed, each generating more anticipation and excitement from fans and peers alike. Being one of the most lovable and well received artists today, Rihanna has formed many close relationships with several of her musical peers such as Katy Perry and Eminem, the latter somewhat known for being hard to impress in a positive light. Best friends in the industry is no easy thing to make, let alone maintain so it’s refreshing to see both Rihanna and Katy showing up to award shows together and gallivanting around cities and countries everywhere. One relationship however did not have such a refreshing outcome for this lovable star. In February of 2009, on the evening of the 51st Grammy awards, Rihanna and then boyfriend Chris Brown abruptly pulled out of performances for the show at the last minute. More upsetting to learn, it was due to a physical altercation between the seemingly perfect couple. An arrest and a restraining order were part of Brown’s fate while Rihanna was left to deal with every emotion and question from all who asked. A stressful time indefinitely yet Rihanna prevailed through with her ever present graciousness and gratitude for support which has remained continuous. Just a few months ago, Rihanna shocked many when she petitioned to have the restraining order reduced due to the limitations she saw they were having on Brown’s career. Keeping with her sense of independence and uninfluenced by anyone’s opinion that thought she was crazy to even think of this option, Rihanna proved that forgiveness might just be the best remedy for a bad situation.

included lots of leather and neon red hair, the critics agree Rihanna wins the award for taking chances. This is just another part of her natural ability to be herself in a world where conformity often runs rampant. Aside from music and fashion, Rihanna holds interest in philanthropy as well. She has performed for several charity functions and has also founded the Believe Foundation, which is an organization that helps terminally ill children. Rihanna’s pride for her native Barbados also has factored into her giving back. She is the face of Barbados in numerous fashions and proudly so. Rihanna is a living example of not forgetting where you’re from and knows how to give back in tremendous ways. As much as she has already conquered, it appears Rihanna is merely at the beginning of a long, successful and influential career. Let’s just say nothing seems out of reach or too big of a feat for this entertainer. She will continue to climb upward and onward performing to sold out venues, leaving impressions on every red carpet she sets foot on, and giving back in more ways than she ever imagined. <

Rihanna also makes waves with her fashion choices, tattoo additions and ever evolving hairstyles. While rated good and bad for her daring and signature looks, which have

Adele

Chart Topping From the UK to the US By: Dana Damato Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> It is a known fact that when one is born a singer, they know at a very young age. When it comes to British singer, Adele, she knew the moment she got her hands on a microphone at the age of 14. Born Adele Laurie Blue Adkins on May 5, 1988 in Tottenham, London to a single mother, Adele discovered her passion for music at four years old from her major musical influence, The Spice Girls. Coming from a very un-musical family,Adele claims to have done concerts in her room and impersonated her favorite musicians. Performing concerts for her mom and friends on a regular basis, the time came for Adele when her dad’s best friend, a dance producer rightly declared Adele’s voice as ‘wicked’, he invited her to record a cover of “Heart Of Glass.” Being the real first time she got a microphone in her hand, she realized her calling was in music. In her earlier years, Adele graduated from The Brit School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon in May 2006. She was a classmate with Leona Lewis and Jessie J. The Brit School’s alumni include Amy Winehouse, members of The Feeling and Kate Nash. Four months, after graduation, Adele published two songs on the fourth issue of the online arts publication, PlatformsMagazine.com. Recording a three song demo that she later gave to a friend who posted on Myspace, her song became wildly successful and led to a phone call from music label XL Recordings, who then signed Adele in September 2006. Adele signed a deal which involved a joint venture between Columbia Records and XL Recordings for her foray into the US. She then embarked on a short North American tour in March 2008. Although her attempt to break into America in October 2008 failed, she was announced as a musical guest on the October 18th episode of Saturday Night Live. Performing “Chasing Pavements” and “Cold Shoulder,” led to SNL earning its best ratings in 14 years with 17 millions viewers. The following day, Adele’s debut album, 19, topped the iTunes charts and ranked at number five at Amazon.com while “Chasing Pavements” rose into the top 25. The week of October 26th, the album reached number 11 on the billboard 200, which later followed to an 11-city tour in the US.

Although she has been around for a while, Adele is finally

coming out world wide in a way we have never seen her before.

Releasing her second album, 21, on January 24th, 2011 in the UK and released on February 22 in the U.S. The album’s sound is described as classic and contemporary with a country music twist. The first single is a revenge tune that we have been hearing all over the radio, “Rolling in the Deep” which Adele describes as a “dark bluesy gospel disco tune.” The single was a major success and was well received by critics. It has reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. 21 hit number 1 in Ireland, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland, Austria and in March 2011 it debuted at number 1 in the United States and by May 13 “Rolling in The Deep” had reached the top of the Billboard 100 as the album which had sold 1.7 million U.S. copies & reached the top of the Billboard 200 for 9 weeks. Back in the UK, 21 also hit the top of the chart as it sold 208,000 copies in its first week making it the best selling album release in five years for the month of January. Hawaiian Fusion Mac Lynch, Executive Chef of Roy’s Orlando By Cathleen K. Bode Photos courtesy of Roy’s Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> The executive chef of Roy’s Orlando, Mac Lynch, is a native Atlantan who has been cooking throughout the South since 1995. His signature food style is contemporary Southern with French and Creole influences, focusing on fresh regional ingredients. His grandmother’s home cooking and flavors of her southern heritage initially inspired his love of cooking.

to chef-partner in June of 2006. Chef Lynch has developed a growing interest in Hawaiian fusion and Asian cuisine, combining Roy Yamaguchi’s Hawaiian influences with his own Southern style. His original dishes such as Prosciutto Wrapped Black Tiger Shrimp with white cheddar grits, red pepper and housemade Worcestershire display his culinary talent and blend of Southern and Hawaiian ingredients. In 2009, he moved to Roy’s Orlando to take over the helm as executive chef partner of Roy’s Orlando.

Chef Lynch entered the restaurant business in Oxford, Mississippi while attending University of Mississippi, and soon developed his enchantment with cooking and passion for the hospitality industry. Starting as a dishwasher, he worked his way up, learning the various stations in the kitchen and developing his excitement for cooking. Lynch changed his major to Hotel and Restaurant Management, and returned to Atlanta after graduating from college.

Lynch, his wife Wendy of 10 years, and daughters Ann-Marie and Kiley are happy to call Orlando home. He’s a devoted father who loves to cook for his two young girls, and his lovely wife. When he has spare time, he enjoys a good game of golf. Chef Mac Lynch finds that Roy’s culture parallels his own beliefs of the importance of ‘ohana (family). “The Aloha Spirit is very much alive within the Roy’s family. We have executive chefs that began as dishwashers in his kitchen. Chef Roy entrusts his team of executive chefs to create approximately 24 of their own dishes, in the Hawaiian fusion theme. This is a major responsibility, and tremendous honor. Each chef is only required to feature 8 of Roy’s signature dishes; therefore each menu reflects the restaurants own style and personality,” says Lynch. “Chef Roy Yamaguchi challenges us daily to become better chefs and remain cutting edge in the culinary world by allowing us the freedom in creating dishes.”<

In Atlanta, Murphy’s Restaurant and Horseradish Grill served as continued training ground for Lynch’s development of his own Southern blend of cooking. He further developed his Southern food expertise and Creole influence in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lynch worked alongside chef Susan Spicer for two years at her restaurant Bayona. He also worked at the famous Crescent City restaurants Lee Circle as saucier and sous chef, and Clancy’s, where he was chef de cuisine. After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Lynch returned to his hometown of Atlanta. He joined Roy’s Atlanta in October of 2005 as a sous chef and was promoted

Roy’s ‘Maui Wowie’ Salad Inspired by Roy’s love for vegetables and greens, this salad is a refreshing combination of feta, capers, shrimp, tomatoes and fresh lettuce. It was named after the great produce grown on the island of Maui. The funny side to it is that it is also named ‘wowie’ because when it first came out, people thought it was so delicious, that they wanted to eat more than just one! Ingredients 2 teaspoons minced shallots 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon capers 1/4 cup fresh lime juice 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon olive oil 3/4 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 tablespoon honey 4 vine ripened tomatoes, sliced very thin 1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese 1/3 cup finely chopped sweet onion 12 large cooked shrimp, each cut crosswise into 3 pieces 1/2 medium avocado, diced into pieces the same size as the shrimp 8 Bibb lettuce leaves (preferably hydroponics), cut into 1/8 inch strips 4 popcorn shoot sprouts (optional)

DRESSING PREPARATION Combine shallots, 1 teaspoon capers and lime juice in a blender and purée until smooth.Add olive oil and mustard and blend until well combined. Stir in honey. TO ARRANGE SALAD Arrange 5 slices of tomato on each of four plates, overlapping them to form a circle with a hole in the middle. Combine feta, remaining capers and onion, drizzle with some dressing and salt and pepper to taste, and toss well. Combine shrimp and avocado in another bowl, drizzle with some dressing and salt and pepper to taste, and toss well. Drizzle lettuce with a little dressing and salt and pepper to taste, and toss well. Mound 1/4 of the lettuce in center of tomato ring. Spoon one 1/4 of the feta and shrimp mixture on top. Drizzle tomatoes and salad with some of the remaining dressing. Garnish with popcorn shoot sprouts. E ‘ ai ka-kou (Hawaiian for Bon Appétit or direct translation- Let’s Eat!

The perfect balance of sophisticated writing and physicality, Brian fills theaters nationwide with fervent fans that span generations. Releasing two critically acclaimed hour Comedy Central specials and DVD’s in as many years – 2008’s “The Epitome of Hyperbole,” and 2007’s “Brian Regan Standing Up” – Brian has set a standard of excellence that others continually try to follow. With his first appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” in 1995, Brian solidified his place on the show. He also regularly visited “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” A dorm room favorite, Brian’s 1997 CD, “Brian Regan Live,” has sold more than 150,000 copies and consistently charts in iTunes Top Ten Comedy Albums. Brian’s 2000 “Comedy Central Presents” special continues to be a top viewer choice and Brian’s independently released 2004 DVD, “I Walked on the Moon,” is available at www.BrianRegan.com. > YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE DRIVING TO BE ARRESTED FOR DUI by Mark L. Horwitz

> Florida law prohibits anyone from operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08 or higher. The law, however, is not limited to situations in which a person is driving an automobile but also includes being in physical control of a vehicle.

The Law Offices of Mark L. Horwitz - A Professional Association 17 E. Pine St. Orlando, FL 32801 407-843-7733 www.mlhorwitzlaw.com

styletome.com

A person may be too intoxicated to drive and decide to get into their car to sober up. The person may therefore be in physical control and be arrested for DUI if their BAC is .08 or higher. DUI arrests and convictions have occurred when a

person is parked along the side of the road or in a parking lot, even though the car engine was off. Having the keys while in the vehicle was enough. A person may believe they are doing the right thing by not driving after drinking but still end up being arrested. The best course of action is not to get into the car with the keys if you have had too much to drink. Getting a DUI is a very unpleasant experience. It may involve spending the night in jail, loss of your driver’s license and being

Special Promotional Feature

sentenced to jail time, especially if there are previous DUI convictions. Two convictions of DUI within five years may result in mandatory jail time. If a person has two previous DUI convictions, a third will result in the conviction of felony DUI, which carries with it the collateral consequences of a felony which may include such things as loss of professional licenses, the ability to vote, and the ability to possess and purchase firearms.<

‘Splish Splash’ Out With My Pack By: Cathleen K. Bode Credits: Kimberly Giambrone Read more at: StyleToMe.com

Safety Turtle Keep your pet safe with this personal pool immersion alarm. Available at www.safetyturtle.com

> Your dog is most likely a part of the family and accompanies you on vacations. If you’re heading to the beach this summer there are some things that you need to take into consideration. When planning your beach trip, find out if the beach you’re attending allows dogs. Believe it or not, your four-legged family member may not be welcome at most locations, especially here in Florida unless it is a dog friendly beach. If a beach prohibits pets, leaving them in the car is NOT an option. When it is only 80 degrees outside (Florida summers get much warmer), temperatures can reach 120 degrees inside the car within minutes. Most beaches will have regulations that can be found online, so check it out before you go. While you work on your tan, Fido should be in the shade. Providing your dog shade and fresh water is important so they don’t over heat. Bring an umbrella. Not only will they cool off under the umbrella, but also it will

help prevent sunburn. Yes, your dog can get sunburnt! In fact, putting sunscreen on their ears and nose is a good idea. Also, a lot of pet owners shave their pets in summer thinking it will be cooler for them, but in fact, they have to be careful because their coat actually protects them from getting sunburn. While you might enjoy salt on your margarita glass, fresh water is the only appropriate drink for your dog. Allowing them to drink salt water will make them sick just as it would make you sick. Finally, all dogs may not take to water as you might assume. They can easily get carried away with the tide and should be closely watched while at the beach, swimming in the pool, or anytime they’re around bodies of water. Pet life preservers are suggested if you plan on boating or even if you just plan on splish’en & a splash’en with your pack! <

Even in complete and utter darkness, you can’t take your eyes off it. Night — it’s the great equalizer. One car blends into the next. Which is why when we designed the new A8, we started with the very first thing you see. Its LED headlights not only demand your full attention, they are also the closest re-creation to daylight of any car on the road.* Not to mention the most efficient.† See how the rest of the A8 will demand your attention at audiusa.com/A8. The new Audi A8 is here.

Luxury has progressed.
