by KAREN BRYANT

Obioma Martin is an international transformational speaker, B.R.E.A.T.H.E. Accountability coach, author, small business expert, childcare strategist, and esteemed advocate for women’s empowerment. Her passion for equipping women with the tools they need to not only survive but prosper and live audaciously has launched her into a life of unparalleled servitude. She thrives by helping others. Obioma has helped more than 5,000 women get off welfare and get the credentials to complete and further their education. A life-long learner herself, Obioma holds multiple degrees: an associate degree in early childhood education, a bachelor’s degree in childcare management, and a master’s degree in early childhood education and leadership. She is a Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program alumni, certified biblical counselor, and ordained evangelist. She understands the struggles that can keep women from reaching their potential. Her own story is one of faith and determination. When she was 15, she dreamed of being a fashion designer, a model, and shop owner. She wanted to go to college and earn a master’s degree in business. But life had other plans for her. She had her first child when was 16 and was married by age 21. Her focus was then directed at being a wife and mother. “I was determined not to become a statistical black teenage mother from the projects with a lot of children and multiple fathers,” Obioma says. “I refuse

to allow my past to dictate my future.” Her life experiences, while harsh, were also ultimately liberating. “I have faced scandals, betrayal, defeat, adversity, opposition, divorce, sickness, disease, grief, heartbreak, obstacles, and pain at every level in my entrepreneurial journey and personally with my children, family, church, associates, and so-called friends,” she says. She overcame all these obstacles by keeping the Word of God in her heart. “I drew close to God and worked on my spiritual development. I did a lot of internal work, paused, processed, and prayed. It was my confessions and my relationship with God that kept me from losing my mind and taking my life. I was stuck, broke, and broken for years. Now that I am free, I want to help others that are stuck experience the same freedom that I enjoy today,” she says. She encourages others to believe in themselves and to believe in God and His purpose and plan for their lives. “Release negative people, places, and things daily. Embrace the new things God wants to do in and through you. Accept what you can’t control and accept what God has allowed. Take action, listen and obey, do what is in your power, talent, gifting, and ability to do. Heal from the inside out. Elevate above the foolery of life and soar like an eagle high above the storms of life.” In her journey, she says her most powerful lessons have been what she calls her 5 Ps: “The power in my pause, the power in processing my thoughts and emotions prior to responding and react-

ing, the power in my prayers, and the power in planning. Prosperity is -- 360 not one-dimensional.” These days, as a sought-after speaker, Obioma shares through her presentation, B.R.E.A.T.H.E., You are Omazing, a message to help women go from being stuck to being equipped. And now that she knows who she is in Christ, she is unstoppable. “I just launched the OmazingYou Wealth and Wellness club that I am very proud of. My OmazingYou magazine will launch in March, and My BREATHE Again Volume 2 anthology is now accepting applications. I am a headliner for the Iconic virtual conference in February, and a speaker for the Confidential conference in March. I am preparing for my first TEDx talk in March. My Men Need to BREATHE Too Anthology will be released in June. My five-day, four-night quarterly OmazingYou getaway is in June. I am working on some global initiatives so that I can impact the nations and transform lives globally by giving women and men permission to BREATHE.” What she now realizes about herself is that her distinctive qualities — her name, stature, bald head, presence, poise, position, and beliefs — are powerful. “Every time you look up, you will see me winning. I am Omazing.” What she wants others to realize is that they hold inside themselves everything they need for success. “Stop counting yourself out. You are more than enough. You are Omazing,” she says.

How

She Did It

Lateshia Pearson was chosen as one of five dynamic women from Jackson, Miss., to be featured in OWN’s new reality show, “Belle Collective.”

WHO IS LATESHIA Lateshia is a full-time entrepreneur, and is gaining major acclaim and public notoriety as a force of empowerment, inspiration and change. She is also the founder of National Women’s Brunch Organization, Inc. Her brunches bring powerful women together and help promote selfempowerment, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and unity within the black communities. Lateshia has now embarked on a new endeavor that brings a breath of fresh air along with her genuine personality to our television screen as a TV Personality for OWN’s new series, “Belle Collective”, which aired on January 15. The series consists of dynamic women who represent Mississippi’s best black female entrepreneurs, determined to break ceilings — glass and otherwise – while shredding long-held stereotypes of the South. Lateshia has one goal in mind: to bring the women of “Belle Collective” together to revitalize Farish Street, an iconic Black neighborhood in Jackson, Miss., once known as the Black Mecca all while balancing being a wife and mother. KEY LESSONS THAT HAVE HELPED HER TO GROW THE MOST

Patience is a key lesson that I have learned and it has helped me grow professionally and personally. Also, being authentic and transparent allowed me to grow personally, which displayed in my business life as well.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR HER

Next for me is the continuous growth of my professional and personal life.

adriana morrison Adriana Morrison is an online fitness and nutrition coach, advisory board member of Strong

Fitness Magazine, author, freelance health and wellness columnist, fitness magazine model and empowerment speaker. Her mission is to help women 40 and older create their comeback stories through building healthier bodies, redesigning a powerful mindset, and achieving new life purpose.

HER MESSAGE My message to women is we have an amazing opportunity to reclaim our lives in spite of our setbacks. Society does not have the authority to define who we are as we age. We have more power than we give ourselves credit for. It’s time to wield it and drive our growth and purpose.

Adriana began her 19-plus-year journey in the fitness industry after losing over 50 pounds when she was in her late 20s. Shortly after this achievement, she completely transitioned from her career as a licensed mental health counselor to health and wellness. Adriana is a NASM certified personal trainer, corrective exercise specialist, and fitness nutrition specialist who has taught thousands of people how live healthier lives.

I hold this message dear as a woman 40-plus, due to the realities of ageism in our society that places restrictions on women. Some women have accepted the myth that we don’t get better as we age, that youth is king. Youth is not king; health is king, and the woman who harnesses her self-power is queen. We may be getting older, but we are not “old.”

WHAT DRIVES HER I have experienced a variety of life-changing setbacks. I never wanted to resign to any of them. I wanted to have the last say about how each life chapter will be defined. That has fueled my fire to lean forward and keep going.

KEY LESSONS I’ve learned to take chances and take risks were the potential for self-growth is exponential, even if the desired outcomes are not guaranteed. I’ve learned to listen carefully for the things that speak to my soul and to use my voice in productive ways to cultivate lasting connections.

HER MESSAGE The message I share with my audience is to live your life out loud. This means to allow your passions and purpose to merge so you can live out your full potential. I have come across so many people who do not know their passions, let alone their purpose. As a passion and purpose activator, I help people identify their passions that lead them to their purpose. KEY LESSONS My key lesson is trusting in God. As someone who grew up in a Christian home, I knew from a young child that I had a connection with God; however, I did not understand that it was not about being a churchgoer or the doctrines of my denomination. It was about having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In having a proper biblical understanding of what it means to be a Christian and how my faith is the foundation of my beliefs, thoughts, and actions, I was able to have a better understanding of how to view life and the various life experiences I have had along the way. In addition, learning how to trust in God through the good and the bad times of my life have helped me to make it every day. Trusting in God has truly been my saving grace.

HER MESSAGE You are not too young for success or to make a difference. This has become one of my biggest messages because sometimes young adults are dismissed due to their age, when in fact, they have a great deal to contribute. Many youth do not go for their goals because they believe they do not have the experience; however, you have to start somewhere. So, I encourage them to go for their dreams, knowing they will learn valuable lessons along their journey that will help them develop key skills and characteristics to become the best version of themselves.
