POR QUE HACER UNA CAMPAÑA DE PUBLICIDAD INTEGRAL O LA IMPORTANCIA DE LOS 360º A nosotros, los encargados de transmitir los mensajes de las marcas, cada día nos resulta un poco más complicado eso de dar con el público objetivo que nos demanda el cliente. El consumidor de hoy en día parece huir del mensaje publicitario, se esconde, mira para otro lado, en definitiva, parece que le gusta ponérnoslo difícil. Esta coyuntura provoca que los planificadores de medios tengamos que agudizar al máximo la creatividad, aprovechando lo mejor de cada medio, exprimiéndolos, e incluso creando nuevos medios. Así, soluciones como campañas de publicidad integrales o de 360º parecen estar imponiéndose en el mercado publicitario actual. saje de la campaña de una forma coherente y lo más eficiéntemente posible. Aunque la filosofía 360º no se reduce únicamente a la publicidad, va más allá. Para conseguir el éxito hay que desarrollar una estrategia de marketing integral, una de esas en la que todos los esfuerzos se orientan hacia un mismo fin, un mismo objetivo. Parece lógico y lo es. Parece fácil, pero no siempre lo es. ON JAN. 1, 1962, THE BEATLES FLUNKED AN AUDITION AT DECCA RECORDS IN LONDON. LABEL EXECUTIVE DICK ROWE'S BRUSH-OFF: "GUITAR GROUPS ARE ON THE WAY OUT." It was an inauspicious start for the group that would soon dominate global society and a downbeat Day 1 in the year that saw the scrappy Liverpool lads evolve into the Fab Four who forever altered the course of pop music. No other entertainers in history have been as popular, as influential, as important or as groundbreaking. The best-selling act ever sold 600 million albums worldwide and racked up 20 No. 1 U.S. singles, a Billboard record that still stands. The band hijacked the entertainment media and transcended music to become a chapter in world history. Its members had political clout, spiritual authority, cultural sway and the ears of the planet. Fifty years later, the melodic, instantly memorable tunes of The Beatles are ingrained in the DNA of modern civilization. On this golden anniversary, their golden oldies sound as vital and fresh as ever and continue to bewitch new generations. How did The Beatles become so profoundly enormous and enduring? Even the players couldn't fathom such sovereignty. Paul McCartney expected a brief joy ride when Beatlemania struck. "Oh, yeah, we thought a couple years, that would be it," he told USA TODAY in 2009, when The Beatles' remastered catalog reignited international excitement. "We never thought it would last at all. You've got to ask, 'Why did it last?' I think the music is very well-structured, like a good house. It's going to stand for a long time. It's nice that I can sit back now and be proud of what we did." The Beatles sprang from a perfect storm of timing, chemistry, luck, key support and, most critically, talent. And many of those essential factors fell into place 50 years ago. John Lennon and McCartney met in 1957. George Harrison joined their band in 1958, when they were busking in Liverpool. They adopted the name The Beatles in 1960. The pivotal year of 1962 saw a rapid coalescence: "Fifth Beatle" Brian Epstein became their indefatigable manager in January. He sent The Beatles, performing in Hamburg, this telegram on May 9: "Congratulations, boys. EMI requests recording session. Please rehearse new material." On June 4, they signed a contract with Parlophone, a subsidiary of EMI. And on June 6, they entered Abbey Road Studios with producer George Martin for the first time, recording demos of cover tune Be-

Martin, mildly impressed, lectured the band about its lousy equipment, then asked whether they had any complaints. Harrison quipped, "I don't like your tie." In August, drummer Pete Best was fired and replaced by Ringo Starr. First single Love Me Do was recorded on Sept. 4 and released in the U.K. on Oct. 5, setting the stage for a musical and cultural revolution. WORLD WAS READY FOR THEM "An incredible convergence of factors contributed to The Beatles' breakthrough and to sustaining their growth," says Beatles scholar Martin Lewis, who since 1967 has worked as a writer, producer, strategist and consultant on numerous Beatles-related projects, including The Beatles Anthology. "They would have been successful at any time, but the speed and magnitude of

that success owes in large part to the times. Britain was so poor after World War II. In Liverpool, which had been heavily bombed, the atmosphere was great poverty and sterility and gloom. The Beatles grew up in that, and their first awakenings came from the distant sounds of rock in America." Inspired by U.S. rock pioneers, The Beatles began to blaze a trail, first with yeah yeah yeahs, moptops and a cheeky air. "The prevalent attitude among the elite ruling class was that young people had no say in their own lives," Lewis says. "The Beatles made rebellion constructive, articulating it with joyous, giddy exuberance. At a time when cigar-chomping moguls paid people in cubicles to write factory-farm pop

songs for teenagers, The Beatles were completely authentic, and kids instinctively understood that." Their camaraderie, self-deprecating wit, effervescence and non-conformist hair and fashion also appealed to a growing youth culture. Radio, formerly a fixed object in homes, proliferated in transistor form, and an improving economy gave teens a disposable income to buy records. Lewis also credits integral contributions of "three wise men" guiding The Beatles: producer Martin, who nurtured rather than imposing his vision; publicist Derek Taylor, a perceptive propaganda minister who shaped the band's narrative; and Epstein, a tireless advocate. Talent, while abundant, was not enough to take The Beatles to the toppermost of the poppermost, to borrow Lennon's pep phrase. "Unlike vast legions of entertainers before and since, The Beatles' objective in forming a group was not to become famous

or rich or have their pick of the opposite sex," Lewis says. "They were motivated by the love of music. It colors your approach. How many kids today make a record on their Mac with Pro Tools and expect it to be No. 1 in 10 minutes? "From 1957 to 1962, The Beatles played hundreds of live shows in front of very few people, making no money, sleeping in disgusting locales. They had no sense of entitlement. Just drive and commitment." FROM LIVERPOOL WITH LOVE Only war-battered Liverpool and its sociopolitical dynamics could have produced The Beatles, says David Bedford, author of Lid-

dypool: Birthplace of The Beatles and founder of the new online Beatles Social Network. Yet he marvels that any disruption of the chance meetings and coincidences critical to the band's formation could have foiled destiny. At every turn, circumstance favored The Beatles' rise. "Just as the U.K. charts were growing tired and predictable, the United States, which had taken the lead with the great rock 'n' roll artists of the '50s, was in need of something new. What happened in Dallas in November (1963) sent the public into mourning for the loss of a president who promised so much. How could the country rise again? Four lads from Liverpool, who were funny, charming and different, came over to try their luck." They came, they conquered, drawing 73 million viewers with their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 9, 1964. "Will we ever see the stars align this way again? Unlikely," Bedford says. "In the end, it all comes back to one thing: the music. The songs are as good today as when they were written." The bulk of those songs, arguably history's most influential, grew from the imagination and combustible chemistry of Lennon and McCartney, says Dennis Mitchell, host for 21 years of syndicated radio show Breakfast With The Beatles. "The odds are incredible that two individuals with that kind of musical acumen met and made all this music together," he says. "What they created was totally original, a starting point for so many bands that followed. Millions of fans and musicians were inspired and motivated to a degree we've never seen." THE GENIUS OF LENNON-MCCARTNEY Though various junctures and backdrops fleshed out the Beatles phenomenon, Lennon and McCartney were the only two crucial components, says Mark Shipper, author of Paperback Writer, a satiric revisionist history of The Beatles. "Working together, they were absolute geniuses," Shipper says. "The other two Beatles were little more than journeymen who spent most of their time desperately trying to keep up. "Doubt this? Ringo certainly does. He seriously thinks he's the world's greatest living drummer. To those who share his opinion, I say, put Ringo in the Rolling Stones. There could be no Stones. And yet Charlie Watts, if he really needed a paycheck, could have played in The Beatles.

How to Manage Your Own Money CÓMO ADMINISTRAR SU PROPIO DINERO or retiree Carol Klonowski, portfolio management became a 20-hour-a-week job. After taking classes offered by her brokerage firm, Charles Schwab, she started making regular stock trades from her computer, and reading up on analyses by financial advisers. She joked to friends that she was managing a small—very small—hedge fund. Klonowski's strategy of managing her own investments is unusual among retirees. Many of her peers turn their money over to professionals or stick with funds designed to automatically become more conservative as they age. But advisers say such tools can give retirees and soon-to-be retirees a false sense of security, and that successful investors are usually more involved in the decision-making process. Here's what investment advisers recommend instead: Get regular check-ups. "In the '80s and '90s, when people retired, they'd get an asset allocation developed and then forget about it because everything did so well," says Dean Barber, president of Barber Financial Group in Lenexa, Kan. But if people don't regularly rebalance their portfolios, they're at risk for being too heavily weighted in stocks or bonds, he says. If investors have too much money in stocks, they can lose a lot when the market drops. If too much is in bonds, they might not be able to keep up with inflation. Retirees are particularly likely to fall out of balance because they're no longer adding money to their accounts, Barber says. That's why he recommends reviewing retirement investments at least three times a year. Know what you need. Retirees who want to become more involved in managing their portfolios should first decide how much money they will need to take out of their investments, advises Tim Courtney, chief investment officer of Burns Advisory Group in Oklahoma City. For example, someone with $1 million in his or her portfolio might plan to withdraw 5 percent a year, or $50,000. (Most people wouldn't want to withdraw a higher percentage than that, he says, because it doesn't leave much wiggle room for dips in the market.) With a 5 percent withdrawal rate, investors will need to put at least some of their money in stocks, because bonds—while safer—

provide lower returns. On the other hand, a retiree who needs to withdraw only 2 percent of his portfolio, perhaps because he also receives income from a pension, can rely more heavily on safer bonds and certificates of deposit. "The withdrawal rate you require will tell you how much risk you need to take," says Courtney. Over time, he says, people usually increase the value of their withdrawals to keep pace with inflation. Seek stability. Even retirees who actively manage their investments will want the bulk of their portfolio in a diverse set of investments that doesn't require much daily monitoring. "You should be setting up your portfolio in a way so you're not making constant changes," says Courtney. Adjustments and rebalancing, yes, but frequent stock and fund trades, no. "If you're very active in buying and selling asset classes, the odds are against you being able to time those right to make money [consistently]," he adds. Get emergency-ready. Retirees should also plan for emergency cash needs, so if they suddenly have a big expense, they won't have to sell investments. Wait until later to move to the bed. * Stick to the same pre-sleep routine. Children are creatures of habit and like to know what is coming next. Therefore, stick to the same routine around bedtime so that all will feel familiar. This may include reading a story, brushing teeth, and putting on pajamas, straightening up the room, or singing a lullaby together. Parents should also avoid letting their children sleep in Mom and Dad's bed. This promotes a habit that will be hard to break down the line. Although the first few nights of the new bed may be hard for your child, with time he or she will grow comfortable with his or her new sleeping arrangements

So you've bought or borrowed your first skateboard, and you are wondering what to do with it. You've seen skaters at the park or on TV, and you know what skating's supposed to look like, but how do you get started? What sort of beginner skateboard gear do you need? Well, the first thing you should do is get a pair of skate shoes (check out the Best Skateboard Shoes List). You can skate in regular shoes, but it will be a lot harder and even sometimes dangerous. Skate shoes are built with a large flat bottom, to better grip the board, and often with other features like reinforcement in areas where you'll likely wear the shoe down. You should also get a helmet (check out the Best Skateboard Helmets list). You might see skaters not wearing helmets, and worry that wearing one will make you look weak or stupid, but don't worry about it. It's common now for skateparks to require helmets, and it's just plain smart, especially when you first start out. Wearing other protective pads can be good too, but what you need totally depends on what you are doing (see the Best Skateboard Pads list). If you are trying to do tricks in your driveway, elbow pads might be a good idea, but you really only need knee pads if you are skating on a ramp, or trying some pretty crazy tricks. The company will be taking a giant leap toward accomplishing its goal at this year's WWDC. In just a decade, Apple has become a dominant force in computers, tablets, and mobile. It has yet to make major inroads into the biggest screen of them all: the television. Sure, there's Apple TV, but it has been a "hobby" for the company. Last year, 2.8 million units of the device were sold, and 2.7 million units have been sold so far this year. Though that's impressive, it's a far cry from the company's iPhone, iPad, Mac, and iPod sales. "It's not a fifth leg of the stool," CEO Tim Cook said recently at the D Conference. "It's not the same size as the phone or Mac or tablet business." That's all about to change, though. The

Apple TV App Store is on its way, opening up the floodgates for developers to create killer apps for people's living rooms. The new TV app store will be part of iOS 6, I'm told, which already powers the operating systems of the iPhone, the iPad, and the iPod Touch. With a TV app store, the technology titan is laying the groundwork for the fabled Apple television set (the iTV, iPanel, or whatever it will be called). Though I'm skeptical an Apple TV set will make its debut at this year's WWDC (I suspect the iTV will get its own event), a TV app store won't be very interesting without an actual TV to support it. Releasing the Apple TV SDK is just the first step in Apple's long-term plan to control every screen in your home. The big vision is to make all of the screens in your home interoperable via AirPlay and iOS.

FACEBOOK SIGNALS PHONE FUTURE Facebook is sending signals that it’s planning to get into the smart phone business. Of course, stories about a Facebook phone have been circulating since 2010. But this time around the story is a bit more compelling. For starters, The New York Times recently reported that the social network has hired at least six former Apple engineers. The Times also cites anonymous sources saying Facebook hopes to release its own smart phone by 2013. Also new: Facebook is now a public company. A public company whose stock price has dropped steadily since its IPO. Investors seem worried that Facebook gets most of its revenue through advertising, and that big advertisers don't "like" the site. General Motors announced even before the IPO that it would stop advertising on Facebook. The company said its ads there weren't influencing car buyers. Still, smart phones are a tough market, unless you're

Apple or Google. Blackberry maker RIM is tanking because it couldn't compete with the iPhone or Android phones—and Blackberry had a huge head start. At least Facebook knows where it can go to hire experienced smart phone engineers.

The higher household income may account for the ability to cruise amid a floundering economy. What's behind the popularity of cruising? One of the main draws to cruising is its relative ease. From the moment a ship embarks, cruisers are aboard a floating hotel. All of their needs are met within the confines of the ship, and there's no hassle with baggage or layovers like there is for air travel. There's also no traffic on the open seas, and cruisers can customize their days and do as little or as much as they like. The all-inclusive nature of cruising extends to meals. A popular factor of cruising is that one needn't look far for the next meal. Unlike other hotels and resorts, there's no traveling far for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and passengers don't have to carry around extra money for meal expenses. Cruise packages often include all-youcan-eat options. This can seem like a bargain, as the cost of meals on other vacations tends to be a significant. According to Ehow.com, vacationers spend upwards of $600 in food for a week-long vacation. In comparison,

cruising costs on average $1,500 per person, which covers the accommodations, meals, some excursions, and onboard activities. Because most cruise ships travel in international waters, they are not governed by the rules of the land. For example, gambling is often legal aboard ships when they are out of port. Cruising remains one of the most popular types of vacations. GOURMETALDIA Broiled Parmesan-Lemon Tilapia INGREDIENTS • 4 (4 ounce) tilapia fillets • 2 tablespoons Miami-style sazon seasoning • 1 serving olive oil cooking spray • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese • 2 tablespoons butter-margarine blend (such as Smart Balance®), melted • 1 1/2 tablespoons fat-free mayonnaise • 2 tablespoons lemon juice • 2 teaspoons grated lemon zest • 1/8 teaspoon dried basil • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder • 1/8 teaspoon celery salt DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat the oven's broiler and set the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source. Line a broiler pan with aluminum foil. Spray the broiler pan's rack with olive oil cooking spray. 2. Sprinkle tilapia with sazon seasoning and arrange on the prepared broiler rack. 3. Mix the Parmesan cheese, buttermargarine blend, fat-free mayonnaise, lemon juice, lemon zest, basil, black pepper, onion powder, and celery salt together in a bowl and set aside. 4.
