IN-HOUSE NEWSLETTER OF SUHAIL BAHWAN GROUP VOLUME 03 | ISSUE 10 JULY/SEPTEMBER 2016
FROM THE VICE CHAIRPERSON’S DESK Dear Colleagues Welcome to the 2016 third-quarter edition of Suhail, our SBGH family newsletter.
Designed & Published by Media and Communications Division Suhail Bahwan Group [Holding] LLC P.O. Box: 169, PC 100 Muscat, Sultanate of Oman Phone: +968 2465 0037 Email: pr@suhailbahwangroup.com
DISCLAIMER SUHAIL is an internal newsletter meant exclusively for SBGH employees. Although immense care has been taken, we request our readers to bear with us in case of any errors and omissions. Please send us your feedback, comments, contributions and suggestions to pr@suhailbahwangroup.com
Another three months have passed with more or less the same business scenario as the last quarter. People keep saying that the market is sluggish and continues to be static whereas I see several business opportunities around us. A quick scan through newspapers and trade publications tells me that there are so many tenders and enquires for new contracts/projects and materials. With just three months left for the year-end, we need to realize that we are way behind our targets. This is the time when we need to be more aggressive and push our sales. That said, the past quarter has not been without any milestones. Some of our companies have been making their marks in the regional and global market place. Bahwan IT has won two awards – Partner of the Year 2016’ award from Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Microsoft Country Partner Award from Microsoft. Bahwan Electronics also won two awards from Toshiba - one for being the best distributor in the Middle East and the other for achieving the highest sales growth for the year 2015. Bahwan Electronics has also signed up a new distributorship with Karcher, a well-known German brand and a pioneer in vacuum cleaning and hi pressure cleaning technology. As I said earlier, this is the time where we need to be more focused, more aggressive and more result-oriented as we approach the year-end.

Colleague ‘‘ I earned the goodwill of my superiors and I was promoted and today I am a deputy manager. ‘‘ Salim Mohamed Murad Al Raisi
Meet Salim Al Raisi who believes there is no fixed time to work and only hard work rewards. Please tell us about yourself? I was born in 1977 in the Wilayat of Muscat. I am married and blessed with two sons and a daughter. My father was working for HH Sayyid Taimour Al Said.
Can you brief us on your educational qualifications? I completed my early schooling in Muscat and high school in Ruwi. Since I started working soon after my high school, I couldn’t go for further studies, but I am a keen learner always.
Please tell us about your initial career. I started working as a clearing agent with Mohammed Abbas Enterprises in 1998 where my job was to clear cargo at Port Sultan Qaboos. Looking at my work one day in 2001, Mr. Rajan, a Manager with Bahwan Logistics (then it was called Middle East Shipping and Transport Company) asked me to join Suhail Bahwan Group and I joined straightaway in July that year.
What is your functional role? I am responsible for clearing customs for the SBGH cargo at the airport. I have more than 10 people working under me, who discharge various responsibilities. Now with customs clearance becoming online, my work involves online completion of various e-forms, payment of fees and other charges through smartcard and conveying approvals to my

SUHAIL | Know your colleague deputies to clear cargo. I also regularly make on-site visits to help my colleagues. There is no fixed timing and many a time I work into late hours.
Can you brief us on your career so far? After joining Suhail Bahwan Group, I took up my profession very seriously. I started working harder, took more responsibilities and discharged my duties diligently. Over a period of time I learnt many skills in logistics business and developed my relationship with officials in airport/port/ and ministries. I earned the goodwill of my superiors and I was promoted and today I am a deputy manager. With the able support of Mr. Ajay Sachdev, General Manager, I aim to hone my skills further to reach a respectable position in my career.
How have your parents influenced your life/career? My father and my mother are very supportive to whatever I have done till date. I take their advice and their prayers have helped me to reach this level today.
How do you spend your leisure time? I am a fitness freak, I like working out in gyms and body building. I also like travelling both inside and outside Oman. I have visited Morocco, Thailand, Syria and I have plans to travel to Turkey soon.
Can you recollect any instance/experience that has given you immense job satisfaction? There are many but in 2010, a cargo of around 20 tonnes got stuck at the airport due to some complications in the documentation and we were incurring incidental charges on hourly basis. Though it was past midnight, I called a senior customs officer explaining the situation and requesting his intervention. The officer obliged to come to the airport at that hour and helped in clearing the cargo. This was greatly appreciated by Mr. Matthai, former head of Bahwan Logistics, who was also present at the spot along with PDO officials. I still remember that experience very well.
Any suggestions for improving the work environment? I feel interaction or meeting with the employees at regular intervals by the top management will boost the morale of the employees. For example, when I met Madam Amal Bahwan the way she spoke to me highlighting the importance of my role and asking me to continue with the good work encouraged me further to work hard. Her words gave me enormous boost to my career.
Your ambition in life future plans? I am trying to learn new things as I grow in my professional life. I also have plans for my elder son to make him a pilot. Now I am very much focused on bringing him on the right track to see that my dream comes true. I also want to reach a respectable position in my career graph.

Keeping a couple of pillows under your knees cuts the pressure in half. Lying on your right side, with a pillow between your knees also reduces the pressure.

We do not need energy while sleeping. When your body receives food after 8 pm, the food automatically gets stored as fat.
