SUHAIL | Know your colleague war torn Yemen through BHC. Since my division was entrusted with the responsibility, I volunteered myself to deliver the consignment worth OMR 72,000 to a trouble-hit province in Yemen. This was really a challenging task. With necessary permission from the Health Ministry, I embarked on this noble mission from Salalah in a rented car loaded with medicines. The trip was very grueling without proper food and sleep for days. Many thanks to the driver, after travelling for over 1400km, we reached a hospital in a town in Yemen and I delivered the medicines to the hospital authorities. My joy knew no bounds as I was successful in my mission and was very happy as Sheikh Suhail’s noble gesture was also successful. The memories of this mission will be etched in my memory forever and this adventurous trip to serve suffering mankind is an experience of a life time.

Any message you like to give your fellow employees at SBGH One should believe in one’s own strength to achieve something in life. We should not chase rewards; instead work hard and prove your worth then rewards will follow by themselves. In short, never go behind rewards.

Your ambition in life My ambition in life is to work hard further and reach a good position in our company. I also want to prove my worth to the company and get recognized for my hard work. I also want to ensure more Bahwan Pharmacy outlets are opened in all the governorates and increase BHC’s reach across the country.

How your parents have influenced you in life? I should thank my parents for what I have achieved in life today. My parents never said no to anything when it came to education and career. They were always helpful to me in all possible ways. I wouldn’t have achieved anything in life if they had not supported me in all my endeavours.

How do you spend your leisure time? My life is hectic both during week days and weekends. Sometimes I work on my weekends to complete my pending work. Since I am a member of a hiking club I go hiking whenever the club organizes a hiking event. I also like cycling. However, I don’t forget my family members; these days I balance my home, career and hobbies equally. Since my better half is pursuing her doctorate, I take care of our kids during weekends so that she can catch up with her academics.

Tell us about yourself and your family I was born in the Wilayat of Rustaq in Al Batinah region. My father worked in the Royal Air Force of Oman and mother is a house wife. I have four brothers and five sisters and am the fourth one among my siblings. All my brothers are working at army hospitals in different places. I am married and blessed with three kids (two sons and a daughter) and my wife works in Sultan Qaboos University. We all live in Al Khoudh.

Brief us on your education and career I completed my schooling from Nasser Bin Murshid Primary School in Rustaq. Then I went to Hyderabad (India) to do a Biomedical engineering course and also a crash course in sales and marketing. But circumstances back home forced me to discontinue my engineering course in the fourth year. I started my career in 2004 by joining Al Khuwair Pharmacy. In 2006, I got a major break in my career when I joined Bahwan Healthcare Centre. I joined Ibn Rasheed Pharmacy (now Bahwan Pharmacy) as a junior officer and since then with sincere hard work and dedication I have become a senior sales executive in pharmacy sales.

What is your functional role? When I joined as a junior officer I was into preparing tender documents and collection from ministries for Ibn Bin Rusheed Pharmacy. Over the years, I moved into pharmacy sales and today my job involves visiting doctors in various private hospitals and market the products sold by BHC.

How has been your experience at SBGH and suggestions if any? The job with BHC has given me a good platform to learn many new things in my professional life. I am very thankful to all my managers for their support and who have stood by me whenever my profession demanded. I am proud to tell that SBGH is my second home as it has given me everything. I also suggest that training should be given on a regular basis irrespective of divisions, particularly for those in sales. Which project or assignment has given you immense job satisfaction, and what have you learnt on the job? The assignment which gives me a sense of satisfaction is when a colleague of mine from refund section did not return from leave, my manager asked me to go back to the section and take over the responsibilities. SUHAIL | Know your colleague Which project or assignment has given you immense job satisfaction, and what have you learnt on the job? Though almost all the projects that I supervised have given me immense job satisfaction, one project has a special place in my heart and my colleagues also feel the same. We commissioned a project at the University of Ibra where we faced lot of difficulties but still we took it as a challenge and completed the project and completed before the deadline. My superiors and colleagues praised our team for this accomplishment.

Is there any suggestion to improve work environment? Since we are working in an IT company, we need intensive courses, which will keep us updated on all tech-related developments. The information technology is a wide field and every day new programmes and software enter the market. We being the leading IT company in the country, we need to have regular training and workshops so that we are ahead of others. This would also help us in implementing the projects with ease.

What is your ambition in life‌? Future plans? As I am into IT field I want to hone my skills on a regular basis. This will also boost my career. I also plan to take up more advanced courses in order to develop my professional performance I would also wish to share the experience with my colleagues who will benefit in turn.

How have your parents influenced your life/career? Parents are the only support for any children. Parents only stand up to all their needs and requirements and encourage them to do more and more which in turn make them proud. My parents have done everything possible to ensure I become independent in life. That way I am fully indebted to my parents.

How do you spend your leisure time? I spend my leisure time with my family and friends. I also make it a point to meet my friends in IT-related fields and discuss the latest developments in the field.

SUHAIL | Kaleidoscope drug and have a shorter approval process. Bioequivalence is the comparison of the active drug availability in blood or site of action in human samples. Generics cannot be patented so there is an intense competition leading to price wars forcing the price to be lower. Most generic drugs carry a significantly lower price than the brand name equivalent even up to 70-80% in many cases. A common man may perceive the cheaper price to low quality; on the contrary, the generic manufacturer has to go through the same quality guidelines and inspection clearance from the regulatory authorities as the innovator manufacturer has to.

However, newer and advanced research-based molecules will continue to be introduced into the market as original products and at higher prices until their patents expire post which generics can make their entry. Generic medicine is expected to witness a robust growth in Oman with mandatory insurance coming in and expectation of affordable treatment cost by the patients. It also helps the government to meet the growing demand of medicine as more patients can benefit at the same costs. The generics help insurance companies increase medical coverage, restricting the premium and the common man gets better health security.

Ultimately the common man gets a product as good as the original easing out the burden on their pockets.

Patented medicines Vs trending generic medicines- Advantage for common man Mr. Sanjay Suri, General Manager, Bahwan Healthcare Centre LLC

Healthcare spending is increasing day by day across the globe with the rise in ageing population and chronic diseases such as cardiac disorders, diabetes, arthritis etc. which require long term, multi-therapy medications. Obviously, these medications do not come cheap as of now, leading to additional financial burdens to people. This is due to high cost of patented, proprietary (innovator) drugs developed by medical companies, who add the expenses incurred towards R&D and clinical trials to the cost of the drugs. However, there is good news! Generics drugs are now trending in, significantly reducing cost of treatment as they are quite economical as compared to the innovator drugs. Time required for an innovator drug to enter the market is around 10-15 years where as for a generic drug it takes around 1-2 years. When the patent expires typically after 20 years, one can launch the generic versions, which are simply copies with same quality, efficacy and safety as the original. They may differ in packaging and other nonactive ingredients. Generic medicines are cheaper as they are required only to demonstrate “bioequivalence to an innovator
