The second quarter of 2019 has been marked by the holy month of Ramadan followed by Eid ul Fitr holidays. Our Suhail Bahwan Charity Foundation has been active with several charity activities during the holy month of Ramadan. One of the highlights of the quarter is the Iftar in which all fasting employees and business associates enjoyed interacting with colleagues and contacts. However, we were no less active on the operational front during this quarter as some of our Group companies have made some notable achievements during this quarter. Bahwan Electronics has recently acquired the Oman distributorship for Midea AC products –the world’s largest producer of Air Conditioners. Bahwan Projects & Telecoms has completed another prestigious project of Fiber Optic Network Expansion in Al Batnah Region.

Bahwan IT executed a full IT system migration and integration implementation project in a record time for a client. Bahwan Logistics completed the delivery of large cargo from Duqm port to a project site for one of its major clients. Lastly, while the Middle East may be sizzling in soaring temperatures, Dhofar region and its famous city Salalah have transformed into a stunning natural paradise. This issue features Salalah in all its natural splendour of the Khareef Season. Enjoy reading the issue.

Foot-over-Bridge

donated by Sheikh Suhail Bahwan officially inaugurated The foot-over-bridge connecting the Royal Hospital premises with the Oman Diabetic Centre across the road at Al Ghubrah, donated by our Chairman Sheikh Suhail Bahwan, was officially inaugurated in April in a grand ceremony. His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ya’arub AlBusaidi, Advisor of Health Affairs, Ministry of Health along with Sheikh Suhail Bahwan officially opened the bridge by unveiling a plaque in the presence of Sheikha Amal Suhail Bahwan, Vice Chairperson of Suhail Bahwan Group, Dr. Qasim Bin Ahmed Al Salmi, Director General of Royal Hospital, Vice Chairperson and senior officials of Ministry of Health and the Royal Hospital. The bridge is one of the charity projects donated by Suhail Bahwan Group Chairman Sheikh Suhail Bahwan to enhance the health sector in Oman and to provide the best services for Omanis and residents. It also reflects his firm belief in the principle of partnership and social responsibility and his constant concern to serve the people of this country and its institutions. The foot-over-bridge, built at a total cost of OMR 1 million, is fully air-conditioned and can be accessed from both sides by lifts as well as staircases enabling the shifting of patients and visitors to commute between the two premises without the need for crossing the road.

Our Group Vice Chairperson Sheikha Amal Suhail Bahwan along with Mr. Jose Alexandre Cunha, Chairman of the IdealMed Group, Portugal and Mr. Fathi Al Balushi, Chief Executive Officer Oman Brunei Investment Co, and Mr. Rahul Kar, Financial Advisor to Chairman, Suhail Bahwan Group recently visited the hospital project site at Al Ghubra to mark the structural work completion of the hospital building. The team inspected various parts of the building and were happy to see the completion of structural work as per schedule. They also discussed the further work progress at site. Ideal Med Hospital is being developed by Al Afia Healthcare Development and Investment Company as a joint venture in partnership with Suhail Bahwan Group, Oman Brunei Investment Company and Idealmed Group Portugal as a super speciality hospital. It offers international quality medical and surgical services with the core focus on maternity, pediatrics, cardiology and ophthalmology centres of excellence along with the advanced level diagnostic services. The hospital, spanning over 10,000 sqm, will include 100 beds, 40 specialty clinics and nine Centres of Excellence giving a boost to the development of the healthcare sector in the Sultanate.

Employees and Business Associates enjoy Iftar Celebrating the blessed month of Ramadan,our Group hosted Iftar for employees and business associates spread across four days hosted by Sheikha Amal Suhail Bahwan at the Hormuz Grand Hotel. Hundreds of employees from the Group’s flagship companies came together underscoring the Group’s “One Team… One family…” spirit and enjoyed the Iftar. The Iftar also marked as an occasion to show the Group’s appreciation and reaffirm its long standing relationship with its customers from the travel industry, oil and gas, telecom and other sectors. Sheikha Amal Bahwan said, “The Holy Month of Ramadan is a great opportunity not only to understand the importance of physical energy but also experience a unique spiritual development within us to understand and practice tolerance and generosity. in one’s field is undoubtedly the dream of every employee and one can achieve these goals only with diligence, determination and perseverance at work. ‘‘

Please tell us about yourself. I was born in Al-Wattayah, Muttrah in 1987. I am the second child in our family of five brothers and one sister. My father was working in the Diwan of the Royal Court, now retired and my mother is a housewife.

Brief us on your educational background and initial career. I attended primary school at Asma bint Abi Bakr School in the Corniche area in Muttrah, junior high school at Al-Walajah school in Ruwi and secondary school in Al-Nuja bint Amer School in Al-Hamriya area. After a brief stint at Khimji’s organization in their cash department, I studied at the English Language Institute and later studied accounting for one year at the Cambridge Institute. I worked at the Apollo Hospital in the Department of Management and Accounting for 10 months and my big break came in 2013, when I joined Suhail Bahwan Group.

What is your functional role? I work on issuing cheques and clear purchase orders for the Group companies and their customers. I also work on issuing invoices for the

SUHAIL | Know your colleague purchase of goods and clearing of loan transactions of employees when they purchase products from any of our group companies.

How has been your work experience so far? Since joining the finance and accounts department in the group, I have gained a good experience in extracting invoices for purchase orders of all kinds and complete them correctly. I have also learnt to work efficiently in receiving invoices for large amounts and clearing the same.

Which project or assignment has given you immense job satisfaction, and what have you learnt on the job? In 2015 my manager asked me to work out several quick payments for the benefit of the group within a short time. This was a substantial task but I worked additional hours sitting late and completed the task entrusted to me on time. I felt very proud and happy of my accomplishment and received lots of appreciation from my superiors and colleagues.

What is your ambition in life‌? Future plans? I would like to continue my career with Suhail Bahwan Group because it provides perfect work environment as well as opportunities for employees to develop themselves in their careers. I also want to reach higher positions in my field and this is undoubtedly the dream of every employee. I will achieve these goals with diligence, determination and perseverance at work.

How have your parents influenced your life/career? Without any doubt my parents are the reason for my success both in my professional career and personal life. They advise and encourage me to work with diligence and dedication. They are the main supporters when I make my own decisions and have helped me a lot in overcoming many difficulties.

How do you spend your leisure time? I like reading, writing and cooking.

Human Resources and Administration organizes induction programme for new division As per the directives of our Vice Chairperson a new department called, “Credit & Collections� was created, headed by Mr. Ravinder Soin. Human Resources and Administration Department organized a briefing and induction programme for employees who were transferred to this department. They were briefed on the purpose of creating this new department and the expectations from the management on how the new division should be able to expedite credits and collections.

Al Mughsail Beach Another amazing place to enjoy the natural beauty is the Al Mughsail beach - one of the most spectacular beaches with unique blowholes gushing out water like a fountain

Fazaya Beach – a five kilometre stretch of white sand and pristine crystal blue waters with a glorious mountainous backdrop will be nothing short of a picture post card. Samhan Mountain: If you are an adventurer, take a bit of a rough ride through winding, uphill road through dense fog till you reach Samhan view point for jaw-dropping views above the clouds. If you are history and heritage lover, then do not miss visiting Al Balid Archaeological Site and Taqah Castle Al Balid Archeological Site is a UNESCO World Heritage site - an open-air historical venue that was once an ancient city in Salalah and now documents a lot about the history of Oman. The 19th century built Taqah Castle’s stunning architecture, plantations, and historical documentation of the old Omani way of life make this venue a must-see landmark

Haffa Souq This is one of the biggest and most famous local markets in Salalah, where you can buy amazing traditional Omani items such as gold and silver jewellery, handicrafts, Omani clothes, pottery, and frankincense. It is also a great place to get a sense of the Omani culture and heritage. Bahwan Travels offers several attractive packages for Salalah, while Oman Air and Salam Air operate several flights per day between Muscat and Salalah!

from working hard with perseverance as well as sharing my knowledge and experience with my colleagues. ‘‘ Yousef Al-Himali Please tell us about yourself. I was born in the Wilayat of Samad Al Shan in Sharqiyah region in 1979. I have nine brothers and I am the seventh among them. My father was working in Suhail Bahwan group. I am married and I have five children.

Brief us on your educational background and initial career. I completed my primary and preparatory education at Ezzan School in Samad Al Shan. I joined Suhail Bahwan Group’s Bahwan Furnishings and Trading in 2001. At that time, it was known as Arab Company for Caravan and Furniture and was located in Wadi Kabir.

What is your functional role? My main responsibility is to supervise a team of workers and keep track of their work progress to make sure finished products are delivered on time. More often I give my hand and work with colleagues as I have 18 years of experience in this field. I also supervise training programme for new recruits and give them tips and techniques in installing and manufacturing furniture and others of the company’s products.

I benefited a lot both personally and professionally because I started my career as a worker and moved up over the years to become a foreman. Over the years I have gained so much of experience that today I am able to share the knowledge and experience with my colleagues. I am now ready to work on any project with my colleagues.

Which project or assignment has given you immense job satisfaction, and what have you learnt on the job? There are many but my job satisfaction comes from working hard with perseverance as well as sharing my knowledge and experience with my colleagues. Initially we used to face difficulties in order to get things done faster, but thanks to God first and then to the hard work of workers and the support of superiors, we were able to overcome these difficulties.

Is there any suggestion to improve work environment at SBGH? We need training courses in our field especially for new workers to gain more knowledge and hone new skills. This will help them in their hands on experience so that they can develop in their work areas.

What is your ambition in life‌? Future plans? I aspire to reach higher position in our Group and to achieve that I will further improve my performance, enhance my skills and gain the confidence of superiors. But most importantly I would like to see my experience and knowledge help to increase the productivity of the company.

How have your parents influenced your life/career? They are the strength that guided me to develop myself move foreward. They have taught me a lot in life.

How do you spend your leisure time? I spend most of my time with my family and friends. I love walking and watching TV.

As part of the contractual obligation, Rakesh Valsaraj, General Manager, Bahwan Furnishings and Trading and Ashok Saproo, General Manager, Projects and Design division recently visited the factory of Pollmeier at Cruezburg, Germany from where the timber is sourced for the Al Hail Greens Phase II project. The duo also visited Hafele Head office and warehouse at Nagold , Germany from whom all ironmongery and fittings for the Al Hail Phase II is being procured.

As part of its contract with a major client Bahwan Logistics executed transport of a large cargo which consisted of large heat exchangers & gas coolers of approx.4000cbm from Duqm Port to BP Khazzan site in April 2019. The scope of work included customs clearance, coordination for loading, transportation using BPapproved vehicles and ensuring safe delivery to BP site. The entire operation was safely conducted and deliveries completed within the stipulated time lines. The client expressed its satisfaction & appreciation for the professional and efficient management of the entire operations by Bahwan Logistics LLC as per the HSE standards of BP. Kudos to team BLL!!

Bahwan Tourism organizes dealer incentive tour to Australia Bahwan Tourism organised a dealer incentive tour titled “Spectacular Sydney” for Asian Paints Berger dealers of Oman in June. The group of 32 dealers, accompanied by Sebastian Toppo as Tour Manager, travelled to Sydney on Etihad Airways . Staying at the scenic Hyatt Regency Darling Harbour hotel, the group had a fantastic tour of Sydney in five days visiting all important sites. The senior management from Asian Paints Berger,who travelled with the group were satisfied with the arrangements.

Bahwan Tourism showcases Oman in Frankfurt fair Bahwan Tourism participated in the annual IMEX expo in Frankfurt held in May to showcase Oman and Bahwan Travels to visitors and exhibitors. Hundreds of participants that include event organisers and agencies, tourism offices, congress offices, conference and exhibition centres, cruise companies, airlines, hotel chains, wellness resorts, association management, incentive travel providers or in-house event planners visited the fair and met and discussed with Subrat Mishra, National Sales Manager – Inbound. He also held several meetings with new partners in Germany.

With major presence across major metros and other cities, Thomas Cook India has positive impact for division’s business growth. Bahwan Tourism for the first time participated in ITB Shanghai, China in May 2019. The three-day ITB China is a B2B travel exhibition exclusively focused on the Chinese travel market, where Bahwan Tourism along with their market representative office ETC promoted Oman. Chinese tourists have been showing keen interest for Oman as a destination of late and hence Bahwan Tourism proactively participated in this leading travel trade fair to bring Chinese tourists.

Bahwan Healthcare Centre staff attends technical training Bahwan Healthcare Centre’s Sales Engineer, Ms Mashail Al-Kitani participated in a product training session on Audiology Equipment conducted by BHC’s principal company, M/s GN Otometrics. Mr. Sylvester Feijoo and Ms. Anuu Priya, International Product Specialist from Otometrics conducted the training for eight participants from Africa & Middle East. Mashail Al-Kitani and participants were introduced and given hands on training on various equipment such as Aurical Madsen Alpha OAE, Bio-logic® AUDX & AUDX PRO and other devices that are used in body balance assessment. Mashail was also awarded with a certificate of participation at the end of the training.

Bahwan Healthcare Centre Conducts Training at National Heart Centre The Medical Device team of Bahwan Healthcare Centre with the support of their principal company, Medtronic, recently conducted Trans Catheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVI) workshop at National Heart Centre (Royal Hospital). A group of doctors headed by Dr. Mohamed Al Mukhaini & from National Heart Centre attended the workshop and conducted a procedure.

Bahwan Healthcare Centre staff attends technical training by principal Mr.Mohammed Farhan, Biomedical Service Engineer from BHC recently attended an advanced technical training for Decontamination unit Q10 conducted by M/s Bioquell UK one of its principals. The Bioquell Q-10 is a user-friendly mobile hydrogen peroxide vapour (HPV) generator which is capable of decontaminating rooms/laboratories. A unique parametric control system provides fast and efficient bio-decontamination cycles. Enhanced HPV delivery and control is via a simple touch panel user interface. The Bioquell Q-10 is ideal for high-level disinfection of all surfaces within an enclosed area and will be useful in many industries, hospitals/clinics in Oman.

Following an exclusive agreement with Armtel of Russia for representing their Public Address System (PAGA) Solution used especially in oil & gas field, BPT along with representatives from Armtel organized demos of PAGA system to several oil & gas companies in Oman including PDO & Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production (Oocep) company. BPT & Armtel teams explained the various features and technology of explosion proof units. Imprreseed by the demo PDO officials requested to hook up live system in Yibal Khuff Plant for final product approval and verification. The Armtel officials later visited our centralized warehouse facility at Misfah.

Bahwan Projects And Telecoms Conducts 3D Mapping Demo In recent years 3D Mobile Mapping has become one of the most sought after geospatial technologies, and it is set to change the way landscapes are measured, visualised, analysed and catalogued. National Survey Authority (NSA), Ministry of Defence had a requirement for such a system and approached Bahwan Projects and Telecoms (BPT) to provide a demo to their staff. BPT in coordination with its principal, Leica, recently demonstrated 3D Mobile Mapping product in the field and explained its hardware and software features and advantages. We had received a positive response for the demo and presentations with a large number of surveyors, officers and Head of NSA.

Oman Broadband (OBB), the Telecom infrastructure company of Oman, is aiming to provide 100% high speed broadband infrastructure by 2025, while providing basic broadband infrastructure to rural areas by 2020. Bahwan Projects & Telecoms, which has been given the fibre optic cabling contract by OBB, has been working on completing fiber expansion along 150km stretch in Nakhal, Al Batinah South region for the past four months. Around 8,540 homes soon have access to high speed internet connection. Once completed Fiber optic internet will help the local community from the municipality and other government entities to businesses with improved communications. Bahwan Projects & Telecoms’ (BPT) team led by Naveen Balagopal with team members Motaz Fadul Hussein, Asad Al Harthy, George Arockiam, Kasi Raj and Sulaiman Al Mukhaini, together with subcontractors, have been working on the project site tirelessly to complete the project on time.

I was born in the Wilayat of Mutrah in Muscat Governorate in 1976. I am the first son in our family of three brothers. My father was working in the Ministry of Defense, now retired and my mother is a housewife. I am happily married.

Brief us on your educational background and initial career. I went to Wadi Adai Boys School for my primary school and studied junior high school at Ahmed bin Said School in Amerat. After completing my secondary school at Hassan bin Thabit School, Muttrah, I worked briefly for Al-Samri Transport and later joined the Hospitality Institute to study a course in hospitality. After that, I worked for Reliant Server, a loss assessment company. My big break came in 2002 when I joined Suhail Bahwan Group at Bahwan Information Technology (BIT).

What is your functional role? My primary job at BIT is to follow-up and clear formalities and procedures related to the company in government departments and ports. Sometimes I follow up on issues relating to employees with the government agencies. My work also includes coordination of visiting foreign officials at the Immigration and Passports Department and sometimes at the airport.

How has been your work experience so far? I gained a lot of business relationships in my field of work which helps me

I have proactively learnt to speak English, which facilitates greatly to coordinate with various people to complete tasks assigned to me. I have received many awards from the company and most importantly have earned the confidence of my managers in my work.

Witch project or assignment has given you immense job satisfaction, and what have you learnt on the job? I was involved in the project related to the Shura Council elections and my goal was to complete my task in the project quickly and efficiently. I worked tirelessly for additional hours and days and thankfully, we were able to accomplish it on time and I am proud of my accomplishment in this project. I was appreciated for my work by my colleagues and superiors.

Is there any suggestion to improve work environment at SBGH? We need to attend courses in self-development and intensive programmes in the field of public relations. The latest skills and knowledge gained from such courses in our specialisation will contribute greatly in increasing the productivity of the company and enable us to complete tasks faster and in professional manner.

What is your ambition in life‌? Future plans? I completed my undergraduate studies in public relations to develop myself and move up in my career with the company so that I can contribute more effectively in the development of our company’s business.

How have your parents influenced your life/career? Parents are my motivators and supporters in all my decisions in my practical life. They support me a lot and guide me to doing right things at right time.

How do you spend your leisure time? My passion is football and I spend most of my leisure time playing football, training sports teams and participating in football tournaments. I also love to buy and ride motorcycles.

Huawei, Bahwan IT’s Gold Partner, recently conducted five-day storage training for their partners at their Muscat training centre. BIT support engineers, Ahmed Al Zadjali, Ibrahim Al Balushi and Nasser Al Yazeedi attended the training. Huawei is a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider and operate in more than 170 countries and regions. Bahwan IT has done many implementations of Huawei products in Oman.

Oman Oil and Orpic Group had announced the new organization structure of consolidating all their group companies, starting with fifteen to begin. To support this initiative, Bahwan IT was asked to implement their IT Infrastructure in their new premise at MGM. Interestingly Bahwan IT was given just 45 days to supply and implement their complete IT systems including integration of their existing Active Directories without any disruption. Bahwan IT team worked round the clock to complete the site on time enabling the users to move-in to the new building without interrupting their services. Bahwan IT also received accolade from Nakhla team for the commitment shown to complete this project in very short period.

Bahwan IT was recognized by CISCO as their services partner of the year 2019 in a ceremony held in Muscat in May. Mr.Ali Matani, Deputy General Manager, Bahwan IT received the award from Cisco General Manager for Oman, Mr. Ali Al Lawati and Cisco Channel Manager, Mr. Ranjith Rath. All the local partners were invited to the event where Cisco presented their vision and strategy to address the Oman market. The programme concluded with recognizing the partners who achieved superior business results and demonstrated exceptional commitment to Cisco.

Huawei one of BIT’s major business partners in Oman, recently conducted a Certified Internet Expert (HCIE-R&S) certification training for their partners. This certification is designed to enrich engineers with a variety of IP network technologies and proficiency in maintenance for the diagnosis and troubleshooting of Huawei products as well as equipping engineers with indepth competency in the planning, design and optimization of large-scale IP networks. BIT employees Ravikant P., Sooraj J., Sunil K, Shan Janageer and Yousef Al Shidani attended the training.

Bahwan IT ‘s business partner Newgen Software Technologies Limited, recently conducted a conclave on “Newgen EDRMS solution for NRAA compliance”. The conclave follows the recent implementation of National Standards & Guidelines by National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA), which includes the best Practices, Processes, and Procedures of managing Correspondences, Documents & Records. BIT is working closely on this initiative offering NRAA-certified EDRMS solutions to clients. The conclave was attended by the representatives of ministries, public authorities and quasi government bodies. The outcome of the conference gave an understanding of how to leverage the solution to ensure adequate longterm storage and quick retrieval of records while maintaining its security and complying with the NRAA guidelines. The conclave was graced by the NRAA team headed by the Project Director of the Prestigious Wasol project of NRAA. Mr. Abdulmohsin Said Sultan Al-Hinai, who inaugurated the conclave with a Keynote speech while Mr. Hisham Khalid Saif Al-Roshdi the project manager of NRAA for the Wasool Project, presented the vision of NRAA. As part of its social commitment serving the society and the needy and in preparation for the implementation of charity projects for the holy month of Ramadan, Suhail Bahwan Charity Foundation met with other charity organisations and planned and launched several charity activities. This included activities such as distribution of food and water for travellers on the Quriyat-Sur Expressway in association with Bab Al Rayan Project and many others.
