Frequently asked questions

Can anyone with dementia move into a Summerset memory care apartment?

All residents must be approved by our Care Centre Manager. There are some forms of dementia where the person may need to be referred to a more suitable facility equipped to deal with their specialised needs. The Care Centre Manager will look over the NASC assessment before meeting with you in order to make sure our centre is the right place for the person’s specialised needs.

What levels of dementia care does Summerset provide?

We provide rest home-level dementia care.

Can family or friends visit or stay over?

Yes. Residents can invite family and friends into their apartment and the communal areas. Family and friends are welcome to stay for a sleep over, or for short periods. We just ask that you check with us first.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are welcome to visit during the day.

What happens if a resident’s condition deteriorates?

We will always be in regular contact with the resident and their representatives to discuss their health and wellbeing, and if there are any changes needed regarding their care. If a resident requires a higher level of care (such as hospital-level care) our continuum of care offering ensures we can provide that in our onsite care centre. It does mean the resident would need to leave the memory care centre and move into the care centre.

What is a memory care apartment?

A Summerset memory care apartment is a one-bedroom apartment within the memory care centre, located in the village centre. Our memory care apartments have a spacious living area, a separate double bedroom, ensuite bathroom, lounge and kitchenette.
