Hello, and thank you for your interest in Susan’s Sumptuous Soaps! I fell in love with handmade soap many years ago. However, it was difficult to find locally and, more often than not, I was disappointed in the quality of the soap as well as the fragrances. Frustrated, I decided to make my own soap. I developed a creamy, luxurious goat’s milk soap. From there I located intoxicating fragrances (the “keepers” are few and far between!). I should have been satisfied with luxurious bars of handmade soap with rich, creamy lather and incredible fragrances, but that still wasn’t enough. Having always had a bit of an artisanal flair, I wanted to elevate the visual interest of each bar. Still I wanted more. More types of soap. Different additives. Varying combinations. Coconut milk soap. Shea butter soap. Cocoa butter soap. Silk soap. I'm addicted and I can't stop! You have a lot of soap choices. Read the labels. If you think handmade soap may be right for you, give my soap a try. You could spend a lot more money on handmade soap, but why should you? Spending more will not buy you a better bar of soap than Susan’s Sumptuous Soaps. CUSTOMIZATION: Just so you know, I LOVE special order and customization requests! SOAPS What kind of soap is right for you? Commercial “soaps,” commonly called beauty/deodorant/moisturizing bars, dry out skin and leave unhealthy chemical residues. There is a reason it is so cheap! Commercial soaps contain chemicals, petroleum products (irritating to people with sensitive skin), esters (known carcinogenics), alcohols (which dry your skin), low grade oils, waxes, fillers, detergents and preservatives. Your skin absorbs those chemicals. My soaps contain no harmful chemicals and detergents.

Glycerine, a natural moisturizing agent and conditioner (a by-product of the soap-making process), is retained in handmade soap. In commercial soap, all of the glycerine is removed and sold as a valuable commodity to the cosmetic industry, which in turn resells to you in the form of beauty lotions and other products at a higher price.

The primary ingredient in commercial “soaps” is animal fat, used because it is cheap and plentiful. It clogs pores, causes blackheads, contributes to acne, provides a breeding ground for bacteria, and aggravates certain skin conditions. I use high quality oils for their benefits to skin. They are more expensive, but the resulting soap is superior in texture, moisturizing properties and cleaning ability. The lather should be rich and luxurious.

Fresh goat’s milk and coconut milk are favorites of mine, and for good reason. Milk has long been known for its moisturizing properties and is an ancient beauty treatment. Cleopatra was known for her beautiful skin resulting from her famous milk baths. Milk also has an alpha-hydroxy acid which is well known for softening skin and leaving it rejuvenated for a younger appearance. Milk soaps have a PH level similar to our skin, which helps protect the skin from invading bacteria and chemicals we come in contact with every day. People who suffer from skin allergies, eczema, psoriasis and dry skin are frequent users of milk soaps. 4

In my opinion, no bar is complete without elevated visual interest and an artisanal flair. I use natural and cosmetic grade colorants. Customized soaps without colorants are available. I use both fragrance and essential oils, but either or both can be withheld upon request. Whether fragrance or essential oils, I believe the fragrances should be nothing short of intoxicating.

Exfoliants and clays (Rhassoul, Bentonite, and French Pink Clay) are available as additives.

SOAPS Coconut Milk Soap Milk soaps offer a creamier lather and more conditioning than soaps utilizing just water. Coconut milk is softening and soothing to the skin. A wonderful vegan alternative to goat's milk, coconut milk is abundant with natural antiseptic fatty acids, and gently removes impurities without drying the skin. Many cultures in tropical climates have found that coconut milk has numerous skin smoothing properties. It is widely used in spas in India to soothe dry skin and scalps. Available at this time: LAVENDER FIELDS: A blend of different kinds of French Lavender Essential Oil for a dependable, consistent blend. Smells divine - even if you think you don't like lavender. SEDUCTION: A Susan's Sumptuous Soaps' exclusive, Seduction is a blend of French Lavender, Ylang Ylang, and Neroli Essential Oils. Absolutely intoxicating. Use it if you dare. EUPHORIA: Euphoria is also a Susan's Sumptuous Soaps' exclusive. It is a blend of Orange and Ylang Ylang Essential Oils. Your mood may improve just thinking about it. LAVENDER, MILK & HONEY: Oatmeal, Milk & Honey has been a long standing favorite of many. I added a hint of lavender and have come up with a delightful personal blend - Lavender, Milk & Honey. It is one of my favorites! I think you'll love it too. CARNATION: Carnation fragranced soap seems to be a distant memory, perhaps because a good carnation fragrance seems impossible to find. I have created my own blend, which I believe hits the mark. This soap is delicately fragranced with the spicy clove-like aroma of heritage carnations of days gone by. OATMEAL, MILK & HONEY - WITH OATS: This nourishing bar has oats for exfoliation. It is lightly fragranced with Oatmeal, Milk & Honey, a long time favorite of many! Mildly sweet and toasty and smells so rich, it's intoxicating. OATMEAL, MILK & HONEY - WITH OATS AND COCOA BUTTER: Contains oats for exfoliation, and cocoa butter for added moisturization. Lightly fragranced with Oatmeal, Milk & Honey. CITRUS BLISS: A blast of citrus and a surprise twist make this a refreshing Citrus Bliss! This is my own blend, and personally I think it's rather addictive. JASMINE DREAMS: A calming and sensual light floral, sure to bring you sweet dreams. BLACK RASPBERRY VANILLA - Ripe black raspberries are mixed with dark plum and warm vanilla. Mmmm. SPICED MAHOGANY: This deep, rich woody scent has notes of Italian Bergamot, Apple Wood and Tonka Bean to round out the darker, more sensuous Patchouli, Cedarwood, and Oakmoss. To keep this fragrance from smelling like a freshly cut wood floor, spices of Cardamom, Vanilla Bourbon and Allspice have been added. SWEET JUICY PEAR: Tart and juicy, this fragrance captures the irresistible flavor of crisp pears. 7

Cocoa Butter Soap With Silk Cocoa butter is one of nature's richest moisturizers. Used in soap, it contributes to rich, creamy lather and provides conditioning and moisturizing. It puts down a protective layer that holds moisture to the skin, acting as a softener. Cocoa butter helps ease dermatitis and rashes. These soaps have been formulated with tussah silk for extra luxury. The addition of silk to soap produces a shinier appearance, slightly increased lather, and a wonderful silky feel to it. CITRUS BLISS: A blast of citrus and a surprise twist make this a refreshing Citrus Bliss! This is my own blend, and personally I think it's rather addictive.

ORANGE BLOSSOM: Orange tree blossoms are enticingly aromatic, and this is an incredible replication. A very sensual and wonderfully intoxicating white flower scent. This one is destined to be a long-time favorite.

Shea Butter Soap With Silk Shea butter is another of nature's richest moisturizers. For acne-prone skin, shea butter is a wiser choice than cocoa butter. The moisturizers in shea butter are the same moisturizers produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin. Shea butter is said to be beneficial for treating dry skin, blemishes, skin discoloration, scars and wrinkles. Shea butter contains Vitamins A and E, which help maintain the skin and keep it clear and healthy. These soaps have been formulated with tussah silk for extra luxury. The addition of silk to soap produces a shinier appearance, slightly increased lather, and a wonderful silky feel to it. Available at this time:

Silk Soap Tussah silk is a protein produced by the silkworm. This tussah silk is cruelty free in that the cocoons are not disturbed until the silkworms are gone. These soaps have been formulated with tussah silk for extra luxury. The addition of silk to soap produces a shinier appearance, slightly increased lather, and a wonderful silky feel to it. LEMON SUNSHINE: My dear mother-in-law used to make a fabulous "Lemon Sunshine Bread." The aroma was heavenly. When I smelled this new soap, I knew it had to be named Lemon Sunshine Soap!

ALOE & CUCUMBER: A personal fragrance blend of soothing green aloe and crisp, cool cucumbers makes this soap as refreshing as a summer breeze.

LILAC: A good lilac can be elusive. This one's the real deal.

SANDALWOOD ROSE: A soft, woodsy sandalwood rounded off with light notes of rose in the background â&#x20AC;&#x201C; rich, sophisticated, seductive and sensual.

Goat’s Milk Soap Goat’s milk has been used since ancient times as a natural cleanser. It is one of the nature’s finest moisturizers, is softening and soothing to the skin, and adds creaminess to handcrafted soap. Goat’s milk also contains Vitamin A, several B Vitamins including riboflavin, niacin, B6, B12 and lactic acid. Lactic Acid is one of the most commonly used Alpha Hydroxy Acids used in skin care. These alpha-hydroxy acids, naturally occurring in goat’s milk, penetrate the skin and are believed to have rejuvenating effects on skin cells, neutralizing free radicals, and slowing the aging process while improving the overall look and feel of the skin.

Full-Sized Bar Soaps Full-sized bars weigh a generous average of 5 ounces. Soaps are cut and wrapped by hand, so they may vary slightly in appearance and weight. Please refer to the list of fragrances and their descriptions. Full-sized bars sell for $5.

All handmade soap contains glycerine. “Glycerine soap” goes through a hot process which keeps the soap crystals from becoming opaque. Without this crystallization, the soap remains clear. I have cancer and it dehydrates me. My lips have been chapped since I started chemo. INGREDIENTS The first and primary ingredient in my Sumptuous Soaps and other products: LOVE! They are totally free of: Parabens, such as Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, and Propylparaben. Sulfates, such as Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES). Phthalates, such as Dinbutylphthlate (DPB), Diethylphthalate (DEP), Dimethylphthalate (DMP), and Benzylbutylphthalate (BzBP). Petroleum derivatives, such as Propylene Glycol (PG, which is the active component in antifreeze), Polyethylene Glycol (PEG), Ethylene Glycol (EG), and mineral oil. Ammonia derivatives, such as Diethanolamine (DEA), Triethanolamine (TEA) and Monoethanolamine (MEA). Formaldehyde releasing ingredients, such as Imidazolidinyl Urea and DMDM Hydantoin. My Crème de la Crème Hand and Face Cream has purified water in it, so it is absolutely necessary to use a preservative. I use Optiphen Plus, which is paraben-free, a non-formaldehyde donor, and non-isothiazolinone. It contains Phenoxyethanol (an aromatic ether alcohol), Caprylyl Glycol (an emollient base), and Sorbic Acid (a natural acid that offers protection from yeast, fungus and mold). Reading labels isn’t just for food. Read your soap and cosmetic labels. For instance, many if not all of Bath and Body Works products contain ingredients that are skin or eye irritants, but some ingredients can also cause more serious problems. Benzyl alcohol is a common ingredient that is also a neurotoxin which can cause allergic reactions, liver damage, coma and death in animals. Dimethicone is derived from petroleum and a known environmental contaminant. Disodium EDTA is a neurotoxin made from formaldehyde. It has been associated with brain damage, liver changes, endocrine damage, fetal damage and birth abnormalities in animals. And finally, methylparaben is an endocrine disruptor that has been linked to breast and ovarian cancer and is also an environmental contaminant. Johnson’s Baby Oil is 100% mineral oil, a petroleum derivative. A report on carcinogens states that untreated and mildly treated mineral oils are known to be human carcinogens. A study on mice showed that the more refined the oil, the less carcinogenic it was. Another concern with mineral oil is the fact that it coats the skin like a plastic wrapping, inhibiting its ability to breathe. Cosmetic grade mineral oil is most likely not going to cause you to suffer from cancer. If “most likely” is good enough for you, maybe you don’t need to worry about it. If, on the other hand, you don’t want to take the risk, and would prefer to use natural alternatives that not only soften your skin, but nourish it, look to ingredients such as shea butter, jojoba oil and coconut oil. You will find these ingredients on my shelf and in my products.

Ingredients in my Fizzing Bath Powder include baking soda, citric acid, corn starch, Epsom salts, sweet almond oil and/or grapeseed oil, liquid glycerine, borax, fragrance and/or essential oils, and cosmetic-grade colorants.

Oils and Butters in My Products COCONUT OIL: Contributes to fluffy lather and lathers well even in very hard water. It is emollient, moisturizing, conditioning and protecting to the skin. Coconut oil provides excellent cleansing properties to soap. It contains ferulic acid, which is a very effective antioxidant â&#x20AC;&#x201C; more powerful than Vitamin E â&#x20AC;&#x201C; that can prevent skin aging, reduce age spots, and help repair light and radiation induced damage. It penetrates skin to soften and moisturize, soothes wind chapped and sunburned skin, and reduces itching and inflammation. It contains caffeic acid, which is also a good anti-oxidant. Coconut oil also contains catechins, which offers antibiotic properties, and lauric acid, which offers anti-bacterial properties. Note: Using an overabundance of coconut oil can be drying to skin. OLIVE OIL: Used in soap for its incredibly creamy and mild lather. Produces small, silky bubbles. Naturally high in antioxidants and helps condition skin. Contains up to 83% of oleic acid, which is moisturizing, regenerating, softening, offers anti-inflammatory properties, and is well absorbed by the skin. Forms a breathable layer on the skin, preventing loss of internal moisture. Attracts external moisture to your skin, helping to keep skin soft and supple. RICE BRAN OIL: Rice bran oil imparts a lovely silkiness to soap. It provides moisturizing and is a good choice for mature, delicate or sensitive skin. Rice Bran Oil contains ferulic acid, a very effective antioxidant. Studies are showing that ferulic acid can prevent skin aging and reduce age spots. It can penetrate the skin to offer moisturizing and softening, help with wind chapped or sunburned skin, and help reduce itching and inflammation in the skin. PALM OIL: Palm oil is widely used for its hardening properties in soap and, when used in conjunction with coconut oil, acts as a secondary lathering agent. It cleans well, provides conditioning and contributes to a silky feel. FRACTIONATED COCONUT OIL: Fractionated coconut oil is a light feeling and offers moisturization. It is easily absorbed into the skin without feeling greasy. In soap, it cleanses and produces bubbles. CASTOR OIL: Castor oil provides a rich, creamy lather in soap and provides conditioning and moisturizing. It penetrates skin easily, and acts as a softening oil. Castor oil contains up to 95% ricinoleic fatty acid, which makes it an excellent humectant, attracting and holding moisture to the skin. It contains some phytosterols, so it offers some anti-inflammatory and itch reducing properties. CANOLA OIL: Canola oil works well in combination with other oils and makes for a balanced bar of soap. It produces a creamy lather and offers conditioning benefits.

JOJOBA OIL: Jojoba oil has been used for centuries to treat sores, cuts, as a conditioner and for other skin treatments. Jojoba oil resembles human sebum, which is the natural substance our skin produces to keep our skin supple. As we age, we start to produce less sebum, and jojoba oil can act as a replacement. It also mimics collagen. Jojoba is perfect for any skin type. If your skin is oily, jojoba oil will dissolve clogged pores and restore the skin to its natural pH balance. Jojoba is readily absorbed into skin because the skin accepts it as sebum. Jojoba will not leave a greasy feeling on the skin because it is absorbed. Scientific research has shown that jojoba can increase skin softness by up to 37%, it reduces superficial lines and wrinkles up to 25% upon application and up to 11% after 8 hours. SWEET ALMOND OIL: Sweet almond oil is good for all skin types, but is especially appropriate for dry skin care. It is a natural source of skin-nourishing antioxidants and vitamins. It is reported to be soothing, healing, lubricating, softening, revitalizing, regenerating, and nourishing. It is good for sensitive or irritated skin and helps relieve itching, soreness and dryness. AVOCADO OIL: Avocado oil is a rich, skin-rejuvenating oil, easily absorbed by the skin and hair. It is very high in oleic acid (up to 80%) and is good for dry, dull, dehydrated skin, aging skin, and eczema. COCOA BUTTER: Cocoa butter is one of nature’s richest moisturizers. It has been used for centuries as a beauty product. It is effective in easing skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. Cocoa butter contains cocoa mass polyphenol (CMP), which helps ease dermatitis or rashes. CMP may also inhibit the growth of cancerous cells and tumors. Cocoa butter contains antioxidants that can kill off a wide range of free radicals that destroy your skin cells and lead to premature aging. In soap, cocoa butter contributes to rich, creamy lather and provides conditioning and moisturizing. It puts down a protective layer that holds moisture to the skin, acting as a softener. For acne-prone skin, shea butter is a wiser choice than cocoa butter. SHEA BUTTER: Shea butter is another of nature’s richest moisturizers. It has been used for centuries as a beauty product. The moisturizers in shea butter are the same moisturizers produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin. It is good for all skin types and will nourish your skin to a deep level. Shea butter contains Vitamins A and E, which help maintain the skin and keep it clear and healthy. It is said to be beneficial for treating dry skin, blemishes, skin discoloration, scars and wrinkles. In addition to moisturization, the oleic acid in shea butter – up to 55% – offers regenerating, anti-inflammatory, and softening properties. In soap, it contributes to stable lather, conditioning, and a silky, slippery feel. MANGO BUTTER: Mango butter contains anti-oxidants which provide anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal benefits. It is well absorbed by the skin and is moisturizing and softening. Because of its astringent qualities, it is best suited for normal to oily skin.

EXFOLIATION Did you know that each one of your skin cells has a life span of two to four weeks? At the beginning of the cycle, it starts out as a bright, healthy cell. Each skin cell originates at the base of your skin layers and moves toward the surface. By the cellâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s final days, it is scaly, dehydrated, tough and colorless. Your skin works hard to naturally shed these cells daily, but as we age, it becomes more difficult for our skin to get rid of dead cells. As a result, dead cells build up and cause problems like clogged pores, dullness and dehydration. The key: EXFOLIATION!
