BUSINESS/KEY PERSON LIFE INSURANCE
Y
Sandeep Ahuja
ou’ve worked hard to set up your business and are committed to achieve longterm goals for you and your family. We understand that running a business involves consistent efforts of key persons, along with investment of substantial capital. Whether you are running a business on your own or with a partner, for successful accomplishment of your goals, you need to ensure that your built-up wealth should remain protected against any unforeseen circumstance such as death or disability. Here, Business Life Insurance can prove a valuable tool to cater to your future financial needs. Meaning of Business Life Insurance
partner’s interest when they retire.
Business life insurance is a term or permanent life insurance policy purchased on the life of the key persons upon whom the stable operation of the business rests. These primary stakeholders include the owner, his partner and the key employees.
The great feature of business life insurance is that it helps you to accumulate savings in a tax sheltered manner, and in case you are no more to take care of your loved ones, the funds pass over to your heirs or estate which they can use as per their financial needs such as final taxes and settlement costs.
Usefulness Business life insurance can prove to be an immensely useful resource to tackle various financial needs such as covering mortgage or business loan, providing funds to purchase a deceased partner’s interest and ensuring your family’s financial stability by keeping your assets intact for your loved ones. Moreover, like other life insurance policies, it also helps to meet your future needs such as supplementing your retirement income, providing funds for a business opportunity besides enabling you to buy your
How does Buy Sell Insurance work? For Buy Sell insurance, first, you need to get valuation of your business done by your accountant (CPA) or professional tax lawyer, and for the insurance; you need to get a buy-sell agreement through a tax lawyer. The insurance will work as a tool to protect your assets in case of any unforeseen circumstance. According to a predetermined formula, the business partners sell their shares to the company. In case one of the partners dies, the
insurance company provides death benefit to the deceased partner’s beneficiary/heirs and in turn, the deceased partner’s heirs relinquish control to the surviving partners. Also, if there is a key employee who is very vital for the organization, your clients are dealing with him directly and an immediate replacement is not possible; to avoid stress and financial setback, you can purchase Key Person Insurance. This will help you cover the replacement costs in case your key employee passes away. Let us understand the concept with the help of an example. A company ABC having market value of $2 million is owned by two partners X and Y both aged 35 years. Both of them are non-smokers and healthy. They have purchased $2 million, 20-year Term Business, Joint Life First-to-die Insurance with company as the beneficiary; and pay approximately $185 premium per month. We do pray that they remain in the best of their health. But God forbid, if X dies, the death benefit of $2 million will pass over to the company, who will pay the surviving spouse of X; and the other surviving partner Y will purchase the shares of the deceased partner X. The surviving partner will not face any financial hassle and won’t have any guilt regarding the spouse of his deceased partner; as probably, it may not be easy to get along with the spouse of his partner since she may not have any understanding of the business. In this way, the wellbeing of both the partners and their

families remains secured. While the deceased partner’s family will get the financial support for their required needs and will be saved from financial crisis, the surviving partner successfully manages to keep the business in operation for which both the partners had worked so hard to make it a success. As we can see, Business Life Insurance is an extremely vital tool to safeguard the wealth of the company owners who have worked hard to build up their dream venture. So it’s vital that if you own a company alone or with a partner, save your wealth with the help of Business Life Insurance. As an independent insurance advisor working through Punjab Insurance Agency, I deal with different insurance companies offering plans for different types of insurance. I can explain to you in detail, the insurance plan options and coverage that are suitable for your needs and resources. Besides, I can also help you to purchase mortgage insurance, super visa insurance, disability insurance, critical illness insurance, extended medical plans, group medical plans, RESP, RRSP, travel insurance, TFSA accounts, health and dental plans along with estate planning suitable for your needs and resources. xpressing himself through different art forms has been Harish’s endeavor for three decades. He carved his niche as a bilingual broadcaster at All India Radio Delhi in early 1990s. Soon it led him becoming a voice artist for dramas and plays. With expertise in diction, tone and dialogue delivery, doors opened in the world of stage and theatre. Three years with Barry John’s IMAGO theatre group in Delhi polished his acting skills, but under the wings of this maestro Harish realized his strength lied in writing and story telling. Masters in English Literature and passion for Hindi language gave him the freedom to express himself in both languages. He has been writing poetry, plays and short stories for many years and continues to do so till date. His poems have been part of many anthologies published all over the world. Harish migrated to Canada about a decade ago, but his journey of self discovery is still on. Hindi Literary Society of Canada B.C. released his first book in Surrey in 2017, a collection of short stories titled ‘Harf Adhure’ meaning Incomplete Words. He
gives full credit to his team and family, specially his wife Anupa Masand who believed in and supported his vision. His cast includes Jayesh Kodwani, Andy Kalirai, Chhavi Disawar, Nutan Thakur and Melanie Chevrier to name a few. He believes one doesn’t have to create stories, they are all around us, we just have to spot them and weave them in words. He is now preparing for his second film in Vancouver which is going to address the issue of intercultural integration and the challenges faced by the new immigrants, particularly the children. He strongly believes in promoting our local talent and soon will start auditioning for the roles. His team is in place and gearing up for the next venture. received many accolades for his style of writing and choice of words, but more importantly for writing and promoting Hindi language while living in Canada. The release was widely covered by media. Soon Harish was invited by HLSOC to become a member, then a Director and now has been appointed as the President of this prestigious Society promoting South Asian Language and Literature amongst the Indian diaspora in North America. Recently Harish wrote the screenplay, produced and directed his first short film ‘The Lounge’ being showcased and receiving accolades in International Film Festivals across the globe. Our lives are stories in which we write, direct and star in the leading role. Some chapters are happy while others bring lessons to learn, but we always have the power to be the heroes of our own adventures. This is the philosophy that keeps Harpinder Liddar going.

arpinder is a mother of three, works as a community shuttle bus driver in B.C and dons many other hats effortlessly. There are glitches at times, but wait? Who has a smooth sail all the time? Hailing from India, she had completed her studies from the prestigious Panjab University in Chandigarh. She moved to Canada almost a decade back and like any other migrant, the initial years were tough. She said, “the first two years were hard as I had to work for 16-17 hours sometimes, even more. It all

led to progressive days ahead. Life did reward me for all the hardwork and I am glad I put in all that effort back then.” Years later, she makes sure to keep her work and personal life balance intact. Harpinder said, “life was challenging initially as I moved here. Ever since I tried to follow the principles of self-management which includes emotional management, self-reorganization, time management and selfdiscipline, I have seen a tremendous improvement.” “Also, since I always desired to be a working and financially independent woman, the zeal to live a life on my terms kept me motivated. I started preparing a weekly schedule which was proportionally distributed to my professional hours and family hours, social interaction, and individual development. As I kept practicing this schedule, the routine settled into a more constructive manner facilitating my multitasking weeks”, she added. Talking about her strengths and weaknesses, “I recently read a quote that being a mother is learning about the strengths you didn’t know you had. It fits me appropriately, I feel. The hindrances that come with raising My kids have hit our family hard, however the challenges make the triumphs even sweeter. What is labelled as a weakness is accompanied by an amazing strength. And this is what I continue to learn every passing day”, she said.

Keeping herself motivated to take all the challenges that life throws at her every day, she tries to keep a positive approach. Managing a house, three kids and a job isn’t easy after all. She says, “a sense of duty to be true to each of the fronts keeps me motivated to contribute my best in all the directions.” Going on a picnic or a trip together are her favourite ways to have some quality time together with her family. She makes sure all the members of her family have at least one meal together. “Since we are in a foreign land, I feel it’s important to impart our cultural values to the kids so that they keep connected to their roots. My everyday lessons to my kids include practising love and compassion as well as instilling morals and cultural beliefs in them.” On being asked about what played an important role in her journey here in a different country, she said, “a spirit of self-exploration and through that to explore the newer ambience of the world was the mantra I followed. As I started practising these, it helped me strike a balance between my professional identity and family affairs which ultimately motivated me to look for a greener zone of settlement. She says if she could have one superpower, she would have caused miracles for women empowerment -- right from their education to their financial and personal independence. “I would also create this earth as a
heaven for children, especially those who are orphans and homeless, providing them all that is needed to lead a comfortable life. She says her teachers who have been guiding her through the years are her ultimate source of inspiration but the best teacher that exists according to her is – Life. “It teaches you lessons like no other and a wise person should always learn from their lessons and experiences.” Talking about her future goals, she said, “in the next 5 years, I see myself as a better individual as I keep reading books of the saner world. It has already started broadening my understanding of the constructed logics which keeps us busy in our day-to-day life. I feel five years down the line I would have saved a better balance of bucks for the greater comforts of my family,” she added. She signed off! Our brief conversation with Harpinder only made us realise that life is made of little experiences and bubbles of happiness. One must cherish those bubbles before they burst. She is not just a woman who is making the lives of people around her better, but also making this world a better place to live in. We wish her all the luck and happiness for her future endeavours. hysical therapy is also recognized as PT. These are trained and registered professionals who evaluate and treat abnormal physical function related to an injury, disability, or other health condition. Registered Physiotherapists work in a range of healthcare settings, including outpatient offices, private practices, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, home health, sports and fitness settings, schools, hospices, occupational settings, government agencies, and research centers. Importance of Physical therapy Physiotherapy professionals play an important role in treating and
helping patients recover from a range of injuries, disabilities, and health conditions. Physical therapists are concerned about identifying and maximizing the quality of daily life and movement potential within the sphere of improvement, prevention,
treatment, or rehabilitation. Physiotherapy practice has come a long way from the early employed heat, electrical stimulation, and water-based treatments to improve movement and function. This is one of the generally suggested treatments to assist in the recovery of many injuries and conditions like chronic pain, sports injuries, and mobility issues can also be treated with the use of physiotherapy. Conditions that could benefit from physical therapy As discussed, a physical therapist can provide supplementary treatment to a wide range of medical conditions depending upon the specialty. Although the physiotherapist might not directly and implicitly treat the medical condition unless it is about musculoskeletal conditions, they work closely with patients to optimize recovery or to educate them on how to improve their movement patterns.

Surrey Police Service Visits Newton Gurdwara During Vaisakhi
O
n April 10th, members of the new Surrey Police Service – Chief Constable Norm Lipinski, Staff Sergeant Sukh Sidhu and Sergeant Jag Khosa – visited Surrey Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Sahib to celebrate Vaisakhi with the local community. Chief Lipinski spoke to those in attendance and provided an update on Surrey’s policing transition, and to share information on how he is building a community-based policing model that is tailor-made for Surrey residents. Surrey Police Service is striving to build a police service that reflects the community it serves. Understanding that Surrey is home to a large Sikh population and has many Sikh places of worship,

Surrey Police Service has equipped all of their police officers with head scarfs so they can remain respectful to the Sikh community when they attend Gurdwaras for community engagement or other policing duties.
Surrey Police officers deployed and actively responding to calls for service. This is part of the phased, integrated policing transition that has been approved by the three levels of government. Eventually, Surrey Police Service will become
the official police of jurisdiction for Surrey. While the timeline has not yet been set for the transition of policing command, Chief Lipinski and his staff are working hard to ensure they have the technology, equipment, and resources in place to make this a smooth transition for all Surrey residents.
Recognizing the importance of educating police officers to understand the communities they serve, Surrey Police Service trains all of their officers on the diverse cultural make-up of Surrey. All officers who join SPS are provided with cultural sensitivity training, which includes an introduction to South Asian culture. Surrey’s policing transition from the RCMP to Surrey Police Service is well underway, with 196 police officers now hired and over 60

all you need to know about Rabies Protocols In this month’s article, we will be discussing a disease in which many pet owners tremble at hearing its name, Rabies. This zoonotic disease, meaning that it is very transmittable between animals and humans, is reportable and therefore places your veterinarian in a very tricky situation, if your pet is exposed.
P
rimarily, it is carried within wildlife, especially bats, and then can be transferred to your pet during an encounter, where bites or wounds take place and saliva enters the site of impact. Similarly, if an infected animal were to bite a human, it would give precedent for possible rabies infection
spread. The most common physical signs that your dog or cat may display is behaviour change and increased vocalization. This means that your pet may show excessive aggressiveness, hiding constantly, irritability and even extreme excitabil-
ity. Your furry companion may show lameness in their gait. Depending on each animal, these signs could present themselves as very acute and quick to take place, or they could also take their time and progressively develop over a period. Classically, there are two main forms of this disease that are known to present within the patient. The first form is called the ‘Dumb Form’. In this, the patient mainly presents with salivating from the mouth excessively and may find it difficult to swallow in general. The second form is called the ‘Furious Form”. This form presents more behavioural issues of being very anxious and aggressive. These animals may also experience seizures and unfortunately, become paralysed in the process. Typically, if any animal is suspected to have Rabies, the ideal and standard method of diagnosing includes testing the brain and sending it to a laboratory for confirmed analysis. However, there are many different protocols set in place for different case scenarios for certain animals or pets that have been potentially exposed. If your pet is unvaccinated and has seemed to encounter this disease, the options are plain and simple. Depending on if any symptoms are present and the condition of the animal, either legally it will be euthanized and a brain sample will be sent for testing, or your pet will be placed in a quarantine situation for four months. However, they will be given a rabies vaccination upon their entry into this quarantine period. If your pet is fully vaccinated with the Rabies vaccine and is up to date with its current one, then a booster rabies vaccination will be administered right away, and the owner will be responsible for keeping their pet in quarantine and strict observation for up to 45 days. Any pets that have taken the rabies vaccine before,
18
FEBRUARY 2022
however are now overdue for their current one during a situation like this, will need to show proof of such from their owners. Once proof of vaccination has been presented, the animal will receive a booster Rabies vaccination and again be kept under strict quarantine and observation by their owner for 45 days. Protocols also extend towards animals who may be exposed and have bitten humans. If that dog or cat is overall very healthy, whether it has received a rabies vaccine prior or not, legally it will need to be quarantined for 10 days. The 10day mark is important, as it is the average time in which aggressive signs of rabies in animals may present themselves. However, this healthy animal at the time will not receive any rabies vaccine. This incident will legally be reported to the local health department once any new symptoms, indicating Rabies, have taken place. If symptoms do arise, then euthanasia and a brain sample submission will be given. If the animal that bit the human is a stray or unwanted dog or cat, then immediate euthanasia and rabies testing will occur. We highly recommend that it is very important to always keep track of your pet’s vaccination status and have them up to date on all their vaccines. Unfortunately, in situations like this, the biggest regret that most pet owners will experience is not being up to date on their pet’s rabies vaccination and thus having the animal suffer the consequences.

‘Jersey’: Shahid delivers a knockout performance By: TROY RIBEIRO Duration: 176 minutes Director: Gowtam Tinnanuri Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur, Pankaj Kapur, Ronit Kamra, Rudrashish Majumder, Geetika Mehandru, Anjum Batra, Shishir Sharma Rating: ***1/2 Gowtam Tinnauri’s ‘Jersey’, a remake of a popular Telugu film by the same name, is about the struggle of Arjun Talwar, a gifted cricketer from Chandigarh, Punjab. It is his journey from being a successful batsman who throws in the towel and how, a demand from his son, who heroworships him, for the Indian jersey on his birthday, which he is unable to fulfil, makes him bounce into the cricket field, at the age of 36 with grit and determination, and earn one for his son, forms the crux of this narrative. The film is tediously long and delves too much into the intricacies of the cricket matches, although shot beautifully. One is almost transported to the cricket stadium, sometimes needlessly. The thrill and nail-biting excitement of a match are offered in abundance but not necessarily compulsory, as they do not propel the story forward. The story is narrated in a compelling manner, enough to keep you engaged. Yet, the first half encapsulating his life, romance, and entry as well as exit from cricket, narrated in a non-linear manner feels unduly long.

emotion on Shahid Kapoor’s distraught face with ease, as well as the finer nuances of the cricket matches, making them look larger than life. The film lacks drama, and except for an unexpected twist at the end it lacks the intrigue factor. There are poignant moments aplenty that tug at your heartstrings and make you empathize with Arjun, but high-octane drama and gripping moments, the plot is devoid of, making the graph of the film appear to be meandering on an even keel.
The film belongs to Shahid Kapoor, who delivers an outstanding performance as the frustrated and helpless Arjun Talwar, who has been written off by everybody. Shahid essays the character with the requisite maturity and restraint, exhibiting his emotions with subtlety, suppressing the raging volcano within. Pankaj Kapur as Arjun’s coach, mentor, and wellwisher, who believes in his talent, delivers a realistic portrayal, as does the little Kittu (Ronit Kamra), who is expressive and plays Arjun’s son. He is a natural, and the father-son bond is heartwarming.
Mrunal Thakur, as his wife Vidya, delivers her part effectively. The music complements the film but does not really stand out enough, to leave an impact. The film is beautifully shot by Anil Mehta, and his lens captures every trace of
Director Gowtam Tinnanuri extracts natural performances from each actor and handles the subject astutely but lays undue emphasis on the cricket matches. Is it okay to leave to leave your tan untreated?
O
pting for a sunset tan to get that exotic sunkissed look is always in vogue. Tanned skin elicits attention as it gives a slightly flushed appearance too. Many celebrities have hopped on the tanning bandwagon, either naturally by exposing skin to sun or through various tanning procedure. However, does getting a tan have serious repercussions? Shahnaz Husain shares some expert advice on the matter.
Tanning is not only considered unsafe because it comes with the risk of getting a sunburn, which can directly contribute to skin cancer depending on the rate and time of exposure. Tanning is also problematic because the process of tanning involves ultraviolet rays piercing your skin and completely meddling with your DNA! Tanning exposes the naked skin (when it is not protected
by sunscreen or other skin care creams) to both UV-A and UV-B
rays. Both these are damaging in multiple ways, but UV-A rays in particular break down the natural collagen present in the skin. Collagen is a component of the skin that aids in strengthening the skin, tightening it and providing the hydration it requires. Once collagen production is affected, the skin will start appearing unhealthy and lose its sheen. Wrinkles and blemishes can also form faster as a result, thereby completely affecting the quality of your skin. Many people think that tanning helps them because it adds more melanin to the skin which can be protective in nature. This is a false and dangerous assumption. Yes, melanin acts as a natural sunscreen for the skin in normal cases; but it is produced in large quantities when tanning takes place on exposure to the sun. However, the striking difference is that melanin is produced after much damage is done to the skin cells. So, over-production of melanin can do you only so much good. Sun tanning for aesthetic reasons is not recommended for anybody in the long run as it can fasten the process of skin ageing. No amount of anti-ageing therapy or use of products can help reverse this after a point. The skin also has the chance of becoming dry and rough. Sun tanning also promotes pigmentation while darkening

freckles present on the skin. These effects may not show up immediately, but when they do, there is nothing much one can do at that point. Experts say that people can enjoy their time basking in the sun; however, they should only do so when the sun is not overhead during scorching summers. They should also make sure to use sunblock or sunscreen of at least SPF 40. Anybody and everybody is not safe exposing themselves to the scorching sun without applying and re-applying sunscreen a few times a day. In fact, people who claim to not have direct exposure to the sun should also do this because harmful UV rays can even pierce through the windshields of cars! Studies have shown that this practice of regularly applying sunscreen helps reduce the risk of skin cancer by a significant margin. One can also use natural or DIY methods to deal with a stubborn tan - you can rub raw potato peels on the skin or apply aloe vera gel right after exposure. These two methods cool the skin down and also prevent surface damage that may have been caused by harmful sunlight. However, to avoid internal damage, the preventive methods mentioned before may be more useful. After all, as the saying goes - prevention is better than cure. All you need to know about Victoria Day
V
ictoria Day is celebrated across Canada in the month of May. The holiday began as a celebration to honor Queen Victoria, who ruled Great Britain and Ireland for most of the 19th century. Victoria Day has been observed since 1845, and it was officially declared a Canadian federal holiday in 1901 -- the year of Queen Victoria’s death. The holiday was originally celebrated on May 24, Queen Victoria’s birthday. But an amendment to the laws of Canada in 1952 established that Victoria Day be observed on the Monday, preceding May 25. When Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne in 1952, Victoria Day became her official birthday in Canada -- even though her actual birthday is April 21. The day unofficially signals the start of summer for many Canadians, and it is celebrated with parades and fireworks in some cities. Some Canadians get the day off from work.

Hail the Lord! “Who is this uncle?”, Nancy whispered in my ear. “He is your real dad, Nancy, not uncle.”, I told Nancy. She said nothing, just began thinking about something. Then she lay by my side quietly. Soon, she began snoring softly. Sam came and lay on the other side of Nancy. He had a fatherly gaze at Nancy. Then he closed his eyes for a moment, raised his face up, opened his eyes and kissed Nancy’s forehead. I wished if Sam had been so sane in the beginning, I wouldn’t have suffered so much. I was continuously looking at Sam. After kissing Nancy’s forehead, Sam began fingering my hair. I closed my eyes with a deep sigh of relief. I felt like a rudderless boat

had reached the shore. Though my eyes were seeing darkness, I was seeing a new happy morning. Suddenly, I recalled the pandit’s forecast that I didn’t have happymarried-life stars. But leaving such thoughts aside, I decided to live in my present.
We visited the CN tower. I was astonished to see its height. We went up there by an elevator. Nancy and I saw through the glass floor and saw people, vehicles and other places, looking like very small toys down on the ground. We were unable to believe our eyes.
From three to four Nancy and I began having a very blessed life. Sam loved Nancy so much that sometimes my eyes welled up with happiness. I often prayed to god that Sam and Nancy would not be adversely affected by even my pleasure that I was deriving from their love. Sam began caring and loving us so much that he made me forget all my past sorrows. Sam tried to give us time as much as possible. After two months of our reunion, it was summer time. Despite his busy work, Sam took a few days off and took us to Toronto by air.
The next day, we visited Niagara Falls. Its beauty was awesome. I remembered didi had told me that the water was coming from Lake Erie and going to Lake Ontario. We also had the ferry ride there. Nancy and I were very happy that day, and Sam was very happy to see us glad. Continued in next edition

my mother”
Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate everything that our moms mean to us. While it’s not the only occasion we honour our mothers, it is one that lets the most important woman in our lives know just how greatly she is appreciated.
S
ince we were little, our mothers have been our trusted confidants, best friends, and support systems no matter how far away we’ve landed. That said, a mother’s love is a beautiful thing that can’t be captured in just one word. We have some heartfelt messages from women who don many hats. These mothers share what motherhood means to them and how greatly they appreciate their mothers -- especially after they’ve landed in that role. Motherhood is not an easy job, and we must thank our mothers for giving their best without expecting anything in return.
M
otherhood means being everything to my children. I am a mom to two beautiful little girls who rely on me for their every need. I am their caregiver, protector, friend, and their biggest supporter. Motherhood is the most selfless role instilled in me thus far and includes equipping my children with the skills and abilities to grow up and become kind and competent human beings.

My most favourite memory with my mother is when my mother held my daughter in her arms for the first time. I got to see a whole different side of her when she went from being my mother to becoming my daughters’ grandmother. It is a precious memory I will always cherish with me. I truly value
M
otherhood is a wonderful journey which goes through a lot of meltdowns and emotional ups and downs. It takes a lot of sacrifices to create and nurture a human being. But it’s worth it in every sense. Creation and expansion of the human race is a blessing every woman should be proud of. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. Motherhood has given me the strength to face all the tears and triumphs of life with a big heart. Every time I want to give up, I look at my son and ask myself if those are the footsteps I want him to follow? Then I tell myself I must create a tomorrow where he is proud of being my son. So, get up and create history for him. And that enables me to live life again with a big smile and a brand-new attitude. To the world, I might be someone, but for my son, I am the world. And needless to say, my mother is the reason behind the mother I have become. My mother was full of

how long we live...but it matters how much we live.” That’s my best memory with my mother when I realized what a wonderful soul she was and how blessed we were to have her. - Sukhbir Tiwana www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

otherhood is an accumulation of so many things to me. It’s a combination of emotions and experiences. Every mother has their own path to her motherhood, but the rewards are the same. Motherhood gave me a new sense and purpose in my life. I am so blessed to have two sons in my life. I have lots of memories with my mother. One of my favourites is, I spent a great time with my mum when we went on a Dubai trip. That was my favourite since we spent the time of our lives having so much fun together. - Raman Baath Rai

How to balance your ‘doshas’ during summer?
‘Doshas’ are biological energies found in our bodies and minds made up of five major elements (Panchabhutas), which are linked to our five senses and subtle actions. Doshas govern our physical, physiological, mental, and emotional processes and define our optimal health.
Each of the ‘doshas’ - VATA, PITTA, and KAPHA - has a specific function in our body and is supposed to be present at an optimum level to determine perfect health, and any imbalance in these ‘doshas’ can harm our health. Below is how ‘doshas’ are formed from the five great
elements - EARTH, FIRE, WATER, AIR & ETHER. 4 AIR and ETHER together form VATA 4 FIRE and WATER forms PITTA 4WATER and EARTH make KAPHA These three ‘doshas’ can be found in varying proportions in everyone, and their proportions can change depending on the climate and food habits. Changes in ‘Doshas’ during summer
Because of the scorching heat outside, our bodies feel hotter internally as well. The fire and air elements are slightly on the higher side, which increases both Pitta and Vata ‘doshas’. During this time, our digestive fire and vitality are also at their lowest. Because summer is the season of Pita aggravation, one should consume more pita-calming foods during this time. Foods that are cooling, liquid in consistency, sweet in taste, moist and oily are recommended to calm Pita. Avoiding foods that are spicy, hot, sour, or salty should be avoided. During the summer season, milk, ghee, naturally sweet foods, coconut water, jeera water rice preparation, and so on are recommended to balance the ‘doshas’.

Excess Pita ‘dosha’ is managed during the summer by foods with three prominent tastes in our food that
are sweet, bitter, and astringent in nature. Milk, root vegetables, most grains, fresh yoghurt, and other naturally sweet foods are excellent pita pacifiers. Aside from these bitter foods, other pita-friendly foods include kale, dandelion, dark chocolate, and spices such as cumin, neem leaves, turmeric, and others. The bitter taste is also very refreshing to the body. Bitter foods also benefit the blood, satisfy thirst, balance the appetite, support digestion, and absorb moisture and excess pitta. Beans, fruits, vegetables, apples, berries, broccoli, and other cruciferous vegetables, in addition to these, help to reduce summer stress. While we should focus on some of the foods listed above, we should also try to limit certain foods that can aggravate the summer’s predominantly high ‘dosha’. These foods are either overly pungent, sour, or salty. Foods like chillies, onions, and spicy spices should be avoided or limited. Fermented foods, grapes, pineapple, and foods that cause a burning sensation in the stomach should be avoided in our daily diet. Salad dressings containing lime, on the other hand, can be used in place of traditional salad dressings. Another element that can both increase and decrease inflammation in the body is salt. Do you suffer from obsessi health consciousness T o protect themselves from serious health issues, people are forming new habits or adopting healthier lifestyle choices such as going vegan, cutting sugar, or eating organic. This has received a lot more attention since the COVID-19 pandemic, which made people realise how important it is to live a healthy lifestyle and eat well.
Obsession with good lifestyle choices or healthy eating, on the other hand, can have serious physical and emotional consequences. Eating healthy, nutritious food is beneficial to the body, but for those suffering from orthorexia, the harm outweighs the benefit (a term used to define an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating). It’s like pushing healthy eating to the point where it causes problems in everyday life, and the situation spirals out of control. One of the most important aspects of recovering from an eating disorder is learning to better manage one’s overall health, which is where alternative therapies can help. Obsession with Healthy Eating Smart food choices can obviously benefit the body in a variety of ways, but problems arise

when someone becomes overly obsessed with restrictions. When a person’s behaviour becomes too disruptive as a result of such constraints, it can interfere with personal and professional relationships, eventually leading to psychological disorders. Furthermore, people with orthorexia frequently avoid social invitations and interactions, fearing that they will have to compromise their healthy eating habits. Even if they engage in social interactions, they will refuse to eat, even if they are hungry. Some people may also spend hours shopping for specific groceries or conceal their habits from friends and family. medicine’s basic philosophy includes a holistic approach to care that focuses on a person’s health as a whole rather than focusing on one organ or bodily system. These systems are based on the belief that the human body is capable of self-healing. Healing frequently entails a combination of techniques involving the mind, body, and spirit. The goal is to achieve balance, as imbalance frequently leads to disease. Here are some complementary therapies to help you cope with a healthy or good eating obsession. Yoga Yoga is about developing inner awareness and focusing on the present moment, not just physical poses to increase strength and flexibility. According to surveys and studies, regular yoga practitioners are less critical of their bodies and more satisfied with them. That is also why yoga is an essential component of eating disorder treatment and programmes that promote body positivity and self-esteem. Additionally, because yoga cultivates mindfulness in a person, yoga practitioners are more mindful eaters. Yoga practise makes one more aware of how their body feels. This increased awareness can be carried over to mealtime by savouring each bite and paying attention to how food tastes, smells, and feels in the mouth. Meditation The perception of one’s own body can elicit a variety of feelings and thoughts that can occupy one’s mind. However, for the majority of people, the critical lens through which they view themselves is not an exact reflection of how everyone else sees them. Meditation is the way to open the mind and navigate negative, judgmental thoughts about body image while remaining comfortable. Feelings and thoughts, especially negative ones, are the most difficult obstacles to overcome in life. Meditation practitioners are able to see beyond the nature of thought entirely. It is a natural human tendency to www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
become engrossed in negative conversation. People give weight and meaning to their thoughts, and meditation teaches how to let thoughts come and go without becoming entangled in selfcreated storylines. Meditation teaches people to be kind to themselves rather than judge them.
about his or her body, whereas a health-obsessed person is obsessed with it. It is critical to ensure that the diet does not cause anxiety. While some foods are healthier than others, no food can kill you if you eat it once or twice. Living a healthy life does not
mean rejecting people and experiences, but rather embracing life as a whole while constantly working to maintain physical and mental health. (Dr. G Prakash, Deputy- Chief Medical Officer, Jindal Naturecure Institute) By: DR. G PRAKASH
Acupuncture When their eating habits are disrupted, people with orthorexia may experience intense anxiety or frustration. Furthermore, any disruption in their self-imposed dietary habits is likely to result in self-loathing or guilt. Such issues, if left untreated, can cause irreversible damage to a person’s health. Acupuncture, depending on the placement of the needles, can produce painkilling chemicals and jump-start the body’s natural ability to heal itself, or it can stimulate the part of the brain that controls emotions, including anxiety. All of these can help people maintain a healthy balance and treat various illnesses. The therapy can significantly reduce worries about things over which a person has no control. Vaccinations In countries where tuberculosis is more common, infants often are vaccinated with bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine. The BCG vaccine isn’t recommended for general use in the Canada. First nations living in bands are offered BCG as rates are high there. During the physical exam, your doctor will check your lymph nodes for swelling and use a stethoscope to listen to the sounds your lungs make when you breathe. The most commonly used diagnostic tool for tuberculosis is a skin test, though blood tests are becoming more commonplace. A small amount of a substance called tuberculin is injected just below the skin on the inside of your forearm. You should feel only a slight needle prick.
Blood tests Blood tests can confirm or rule out latent or active tuberculosis. These tests measure your immune system’s reaction to TB bacteria. These tests require only one office visit. A blood test might be useful if you’re at high risk of TB infection but have a negative response to the skin test, or if you’ve recently received the BCG vaccine.

Kids back to school?
T
Rebuild their immunity
he pandemic kept most kids restricted to virtual classrooms for close to two years. Lack of physical activity, increased screen time and unhealthy dietary habits have had an immense impact on the physical, mental and social development of children. Additionally, kids are prone to ‘immunity debt’ as a result of not being exposed to the outside world, which causes a slower and inadequate development of the body’s defence system, eventually leading to negative consequences when one returns to normal life. With restrictions now easing up and schools reopening, students are all set to flock back, meet their friends and indulge in much needed physical playtime as well as social interaction. While parents are relieved to see their kids slowly resume normal life, there is understandably an element of anxiousness. The biggest question in their minds is on how strong their child’s immunity is at present since kids in school are bound to be surrounded by their friends and teachers -- and germs. Here comes the importance of nutrition in building the immune system in addition to aiding proper growth and overall development of a child. The lack of a sufficient, varied, and
36

nutritious diet can affect the cognitive development of a child, interfere with learning, and weaken their immune system. There are several key nutrients that play a part in regulating, building, and strengthening the body’s immune system and promoting healthy growth in kids. These nutrients are found in foods like lean protein, fruits, vegetables, dairy, legumes, nuts, and grains. Parents should consider adding it in daily breakfast or lunch. Vitamin C: An essential vitamin that is produced in the body, it is abundantly found in many food groups. Fruits like oranges & lemons are a great source of vitamin C; so are vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and peppers. Vitamin E: A key antioxidant that helps keep the nervous system healthy and it is an important nutrient that supports cell development. Moderately required
in children, Vitamin E can be found in vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, leafy & green vegetables. Selenium: An important mineral that is essential for the healthy functioning of the body and ensuring healthy cells. It is a great antioxidant and is usually found in abundance in vegetables. Foods like beans, mushrooms, and sunflower seeds are great sources of this mineral. It is also found in poultry and certain seafood. Arginine: This is an important amino acid that plays a key role in growth by promoting the multiplication of cells in the growth plate of the bones to help them grow faster when there is a delay in growth. Sources of Arginine are dairy products, non-veg foods, nuts etc. Vitamin K2: An important micronutrient that helps to transport calcium in the bones and ultimately helps build stronger bones. It is found
in fermented foods, dairy, eggs, and meat. Zinc: An important nutrient for growth and the immune system, it can be found in lean meat, poultry, seafood, milk, whole grain products, beans, seeds, and nuts. Iron: A mineral that our bodies need for many functions as it helps muscles store and use oxygen. It is found in dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, legumes, pumpkin seeds, eggs, meat. Iodine: Iodine is a mineral the body needs to make thyroid hormones which control the body’s metabolism and many other important functions. It is found in seafood and iodized salts Parents should focus on protecting children by providing healthy nutrition to strengthen immunity and optimize physical, cognitive, and social development. Feeding a child, a nutritious, balanced diet, which is beneficial for their holistic development and growth is easier said than done. Science-based childhood nutrition supplement PediaSure offers a complete and balanced nutrition solution with 37 nutrients and is clinically proven to bring visible growth to children in 90 days. How seasonal shifts affect your skin
A
Change your skincare routine
s the weather changes, most of us notice changes in the texture and appearance of our skin as well. A shift from dry to oily feeling, increase in skin flare ups and breakouts are common experiences.
While, a good cleansing, toning and moisturising routine must to be followed round the year, an important thing to do is to modify your skincare products as the weather changes occur. So, shifting to lighter non-comedogenic products is the first thing to do as we transition into the summer. If you have been using a creambased facewash or moisturiser, now is the time to switch to water-based light formulations
Seasonal changes bring with them a lot of environmental changes as well. Along with temperature shifts, humidity levels also fluctuate. The type of pollens or allergic elements in the environment also change, so do microorganisms. All these changes do have an impact on skin, particularly for those who have sensitive skin, points out Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi, Dermatologist from Medlinks, New Delhi.
Consider some skin procedures
With summer, some people tend to experience skin irritation or acne. As hot weather induces sweating, bacterial growth may also result in bad odour and rashes on sensitive areas. “Sometimes, even as temperature and humidity increase, we overlook the need to shift to lighter non-comedogenic skincare products. This in turn may further induce episodes of flare ups or breakouts. Some people even report flare up in skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. Often, the use of heating devices in winters sucks away all moisture from the indoor air, exacerbating skin dryness and related conditions,” he says. A study published in the British Journal
www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
of Dermatology concluded that a shift of season does not just change the environmental conditions but also induces changes at skin’s cellular level. The study found that a seasonal shift unleashes a breakdown in filaggrin, a protein that helps modulate the skin’s barrier function, along with changes in corneocytes, the cells that form the skin’s outer layer. When the skin’s barrier
function is interrupted, the skin tends to become more vulnerable to irritation and damage, he adds. The expert says it is important therefore as weather changes, our skincare regimen also changes to address the needs of hour. Here are a few suggestions from him:
If you have been considering a skin procedure, a seasonal shift is perhaps the appropriate time to undertake it. Not only will it pave the way for a dermatologist visit, it will also help prepare your skin better against the sudden trauma of weather change. A dermatologist will examine your skin in-depth and help you make an informed decision of which skin procedure you need. If your skin is experiencing dryness, flakiness and signs of ageing are troubling you, you may consider a hyaluronic acid-based treatment such as Profhilo. Similarly, if you are experiencing oiliness and clogged pores, exfoliating and deep cleansing procedures such as hybradermabrasion and carbon peels may help. Source: Femina

works best to get a creamy texture without much water). 4 Pulse/mix on low until small bits remain, then stream in hot water while the blender is on until a paste is made. 4 You will need to scrape the down sides and encourage it along periodically. 4 Only add enough water to form a paste - too much and it will be too liquidy. Set aside. 4 To make 2 frappuccinos, add all 16 ice cubes and 2 cups (480ml) cold brew coffee to a blender and blend on high until pureed and smooth. 4 Add date caramel 1 Tbsp at a time and blend. 4 Taste and adjust flavor as needed, adding more date caramel to sweeten. I found 3 or 4 Tbsp to be the perfect amount. Note: You will have leftover date caramel, which can be stored covered in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks. Divide between two tall serving glasses and top with whipped cream (optional). Best when fresh, though leftovers can be kept in the refrigerator for a few hours, or in the freezer for a few days.
Ingredients: 416 almond milk ice cubes 42 cups (480ml) cold brew coffee 43-5 Tbsp date caramel
4 1/2 cup or more plain unsweetened almond milk 4 2 Tbsp maple syrup pinch of sea salt 4 1 cup Cold brew
Directions: 4 Divide almond milk and maple syrup between two glasses (or add all to the pitcher), and stir together with a pinch of sea salt. 4 Add ice if desired. 4 Serve cold! Cold-brewed coffee will keep for up to a week in the fridge. 4 Add the milk, syrup and salt just before serving.

Five things to keep in mind w for a pet-friendly accommo Leaving your beloved pet behind while you embark on your next adventure can be heartbreaking. However, with an increasing number of travellers looking to bring their furry companions along, as well as an increasing number of accommodations and airlines catering to those with pets, there’s really no reason your furry adventurers can’t join in the fun.
B
ooking.com shares top tips on what to look for in a pet-friendly stay. With the summer travel season upon us and travel restrictions easing, now is the best time to travel the world with your furry companion by your side! Whether you’re planning a trip with your pets to an unusual beach destination or a chilly hill station, keep the following points in mind.
Select accommodations using smart filters Technology has compensated for the geographical distance between our homes and a vacation destination, allowing us to conveniently book accommodations through various applications. A pet owner would agree that booking the right lodging before arriving at their destination is critical for
a pleasant trip. To make the process even easier, pet owners can use Booking.com’s ‘petfriendly’ filter to find pet-friendly accommodations and ensure their pet has a comfortable stay. Travellers should also look for reviews on the website or app to learn about other travellers’ and dog parents’ first-hand experiences at the accommodation. Please read the fine print to confirm the pet fee. Make sure the staff is known for loving-not just dealing with-pets! When shortlisting a hotel, make sure to speak with the staff ahead of time to ensure that they are not only comfortable, but also pet-friendly. This will improve your pet’s experience and aid in the management of anxiety caused by the journey. After all, your pet is accustomed to a loving environment, and it is critical to maintain a similar environment. During your stay, instead of dodging disapproving looks as you walk down the corridor, you should be proud of your dog. Assuring the staff’s enthusiasm for pets will help you avoid any unpleasant situations. Check out the scenery or nearby parks to make sure your precious pup can run and roam Traveling is a much more intense experience for pets because they are taken out of their natural environment. While making pets completely comfortable

while looking odation with travel is a gradual process, providing your pooch with a setting that makes them the happiest is one of the ways you can get them to associate travel with happiness. And what could be better than having a large open space where your pets can run around freely? Travelers must view images of the accommodations to ensure that there is enough open and
scenic space for their fourlegged companions to enjoy the destination as much as you do! See if spa days and grooming services are available for your little love Grooming and maintaining your pet’s health are top priorities. And travelling with pets entails exploring the destination’s
various landscapes, whether they are sandy beaches or muddy trek trails. The need for grooming and cleaning as a result of such experiences for pets ensures that their health is not harmed. Having such spa or grooming services available at an accommodation relieves travellers of the burden of pet care. It also allows you and your pets to be papered during your stay, making for a truly enriching and relaxing experience. Check for availability of gourmet pet menus Keep in mind that the food can make or break a trip for both you
and your dog. Travellers must ensure that the pet-friendly accommodation has enough and extra food supplies for their pet so that they do not have to carry an extra load of luggage to feed their pet. Many accommodations offer paw-fect gourmet menus to tantalise our children’s taste buds. The delectable menus are also Instagram-worthy, as you can share your experience with other pet parents and inspire them to bring their furry friends on their next trip. Travellers must notify the accommodation of any allergies their pets may have prior to their arrival. By: IANSlife

Your smile forms a central part of your image, which affects your confidence and relationships, both socially and professionally.

dental veneers. These veneers can be of two types based on the materials used – composite resin dental veneers and ceramic/porcelain dental veneers. Composite resin veneers are made by dentist using light cured composites. For porcelain/ceramic dental veneers dentist uses thin shells which are bonded to your tooth surface.
Missing Teeth – Even a single missing tooth can affect your smile and oral health. The best way to replace the missing tooth is by dental implants and crown. It can give you a natural happy smile.
Do you feel lack of confidence while smiling??
Just as each individual has a unique look, each smile makeover has to be customized by a skilled dentist to meet your aesthetic needs. Before starting with the smile makeover, your dentist will evaluate health of your teeth, gums, as well as other factors such as your facial appearance, hair color, and skin tone and make a customized treatment plan and a mock up trial to check type of smile makeover treatment you will need.
Do you find yourself covering your mouth when you smile?? Are you perfect in smiling with your lips pursed because of bad smile?? The most common reasons people hide their smiles is due to presence of yellow, decayed, chipped, crooked, worn off and missing teeth. Fortunately, no matter what the problem with your teeth is, a smile makeover can help to restore your happy and healthy smile through the right combination of cosmetic and restorative treatments.
What is smile makeover?? A smile makeover is the process of improving or enhancing the appearance of the smile through one, two or combination of cosmetic dental procedures. Commonly employed dental procedures for smile makeover are teeth whitening, veneers, crowns, implants, gum therapy, invisalign, full mouth enhancement and TMJ treatment.
If you get your smile makeover done, not only you’ll have a happy and healthy smile but also :
Balance of functional, aesthetic and biological harmony – Decayed, chipped, cracked, or worn off teeth can be corrected by composite resin restorations for an improved appearance. Gap between front teeth can also be corrected by composite resin veneers in single sitting. Gummy smile can be treated by surgical procedures and lasers resulting in beautiful smile.
Once your smile makeover is done, it is equally important to know how to maintain it, as we all know, ”maintenance is the key to success of any treatment!’ Ask your dentist about the best way to maintain the smile makeover so as to have lasting good oral health and beautiful smile. Benefits of smile makeover
Confident smile: You’ll have confident flawless smile rather than the previous flawed smile, which you got habit of adjusting by hiding your mouth when you’re interacting with others. Having a healthy beautiful smile, gives your confidence a boost and lets you feel comfortable with your appearance. Improved Oral Health Decayed, cracked, missing, or improperly aligned teeth not only look bad, but they can also cause problems such as gum disease, chewing insufficiency, jaw pain and TMJ related problems. Correction of these problems with cosmetic dentistry helps reduce the risk of oral problems and protects your overall oral health. Greater Success in Relationships You’ll be surprised to know that cosmetic dentistry really improve your chances of success in life? If you don’t have confident smile, it’s difficult to interact confidently with others. Basically, if you’re not smiling, others may perceive you as being unfriendly or unapproachable. If you’re looking to restore or improve the health and appearance of your teeth, the first step would be a cosmetic consultation. If you’re self-conscious about your teeth, or want to improve your smile, please feel free to contact us.
For a customized smile makeover, we need to examine certain factors that tell us the type of treatment required. Tooth color : Tooth color is a very important factor of your smile. As a brighter smile can lift your mood and your confidence. Teeth whitening is an effective way of lightening the natural color of your teeth without removing the tooth surface.
Tooth proportions and shape: The length of your teeth can affect how our smiles look. Long teeth lend a youthful appearance whereas shorter teeth give an aged appearance. Unesthetic tooth proportions like improper length, width and contours of teeth can be corrected by

Fashion trends are constantly evolving and style enthusiasts are hooked to the latest collections and options that are available on online and offline clothing stores. These traditional wears can swing from being maximalist to minimalist, going well with all body and skin types. However, the idea is to select the Kurti that can be easy to style and compliment the wearer without being overpowering.
The ultimate guide to slay that traditional look
B
elow are some quick tips and guides by Anuj Mundra, Chairman and MD, Jaipurkurti.com based on each body type to nail the traditional look with manipulation of designs and colours.
· Apple Shaped Body If your upper body is wide compared to the lower body with rounded shoulders, average to big bust or fullness around the middle, it’s best to go for darker shades with cotton and silk fabrics as
they do not cling to the body. Necklines that are V-shaped or embellished will tend to draw attention to the much-endowed bust. Flared and cuffed sleeves will help in highlighting the best assets while accentuating your best features.
· Banana Shaped Body Banana-shaped body or the rectangular body type, is an evenly proportionate shape, which means that the shoulders, hips, and waist are evenly proportioned. The size can vary from small to medium bust but the waist is not defined. The features for the right Kurti that will compliment this body type include a broad and deep neckline with a clinched waist. One can opt for panel detailing along with pleats and a front placket. While choosing the bottoms, select slightly slim and sleek bottoms such as churidars or leggings to complete the look.
· Pear Shaped Body The pear-shaped body types are one with full hips and thighs along with defined waist and narrow shoulders. Wearing lowers which are dark in colour, teaming up with lighter Kurtis will draw attention to the torso. Necklines that have collar patterns, boat, or square cuts will enhance the
44

look. For sleeves, one can go for a bishop and roughed arms. Straightlong Kurtis will add length to your body.
· Hourglass Shaped Body This body type includes a defined waist and bust along with the bottom and hips. With this body type, you can carry off the Kurtis of all types. Pair them with palazzos and or straight-line pants and you will get a stunning look. Do not go for ill-fitted Kurtis. A flared Kurti can be the best pick as it will give a fuller look. Additionally, a streamlined cut would prove to be perfect for this body type.
· Inverted Triangle Shaped Body This body type calls for a straight and squared shoulder line along with a smaller bottom. Choosing flared Kurtis that fit well on the bust and slightly low necklines that will take away the attention from broad shoulders. Sleeves in the raglan style create an illusion of an evenly distributed look throughout the body and would be perfect for this body type. Make sure that you go for longer Kurtis and layer them with Patiala or skirt. One can avoid anything with strong shoulder detailing or high necklines to shift to an appealing style. By: Puja Gupta

6 Tips To Help You Revamp Your Room O
ur living spaces are a reflection of who we are. More and more of us want to come back home to a beautiful home which we call our own, and for good measure considering the taxing lives we live. Our havens, den, our roof under the sun, the place we lick our wounds, grow, sleep, and mostly chill in should be comfortable, warm and reflect our personalities. The home is where the heart is they say, so how about taking some time (and tips) to make your room homely and heartwarming. Few easy tips, a weekend, and you can easily revamp yours to look more classy and nice.
1. Keep it clean Don’t clutter the room up; too much of anything ruins the effect - take some time and throw out anything that isn’t needed. The idea is to give the idea of spaciousness in limited space. Push the furniture pieces to the four walls of the room which leaves the space in the centre to you.
2. Add some lights No, not the white tube light. I am talking yellow fairy lights, stream of bulbs, statement lamps etc. They add an ambient touch to the room and give off warm vibes. In short, they create a cosy, happy mood in the room.
www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
3. Think plants and flowers I know you might scoff but apart from building your taking-care skills, indoor plants are a great touch to any room. Buying fresh flowers also does the trick - a pop of color for your room. What is that hash tag? #GoodVibesOnly.
4. Mirror on the wall One full length for one side of the room, or a beautifully framed mirror
on the wall - whatever the choice, mirrors change the way a room looks. There are a lot of vintage, elegant frames available in the market for one to choose from.
a beautiful vintage chair, a distressed chest of drawers, a French trunk, a chintz armchair etc.
5. Accent furniture
Take an old ladder, put it against a wall, and deck it up with fairy lights. Or get empty wall frames and mount them on the wall in a pattern. Invest in some printed bed sheets or patchwork quilt. But with these, make sure these things standalone.
The one thing, and just one, that draws (and compliments) when someone walks into the room. Statement furniture that can be thrifted from an old furniture market is a beautiful way to add some personality to your room - it can be
6. Get quirky with decor
