GUARDAMAR TO FOCUS ON HISTORY

THANKS A MILLION

The La Vuelta cycle race has brought over a million euro to the province of Alicante during the three stages hosted by the area. A total of 1.2 million euro is the estimated income brought by the race participants and their supporters, with hotels in Alicante, Benidorm, Torrevieja and Calpe all increasing their occupancy during the race, and gaining awareness for future clientele.

With many new buildings having popped up over recent years, it´s easy to forget that towns along the Mediterranean coast are steeped in history, but Guardamar are looking to highlight their past with an historic tourism strategy. So far, more than 300 people have joined in guided tours around some of the archaeological restoration works around the town, including the walls surrounding the centre and the castle.

As a result of the interest in the area, the town hall has now expanded the plan and intends to develop a strategy that promotes the historic values of the town and the cultural heritage. Pilar Gay, the councillor for culture and historical heritage, said, “The large influx of people and the interest they show in learning our heritage encourages us to continue along this path to value our history, and make it

understandable and accessible to all.” Part of the plan includes developing the castle, the Phoenician-Islamic reservoir of La Fonteta and the Ingeniero Mira house into museums which can be visited by tourists interested in learning more than is currently available although information is available on display boards at the sites, and at the tourist information office.

The 1.2 million euro direct economic impact has been suggested by the general director of the tour, Javier Guillén, rather than the hotels themselves, but as he quotes the direct income from hotel expenses of between 1,600 and 1,800 per night, plus the meals consumed and the advertising effect of television, he believes that the overall long-term impact is approximately 10

The scene of the accident was partially closed to traffic for three hours until it was possible to move the body.

The police are investigating whether the driver was hindered

from seeing the woman as she crossed the road due to the angle of his cabin and the fact that she was not very tall. He was tested for alcohol and showed a negative response.

The mortal accident took place at 10.20 am on a crossing located on the main roundabout on Calle Orihuela, close to the top of the Park of Nations. The woman was knocked down and killed instantly as she was hit by a huge lorry driven by a Portuguese driver. The Emergency Medical Team that arrived on the scene was unable to save her life.

OZONE POLLUTION AT DANGEROUS LEVELS IN TORREVIEJA AND ORIHUELA The rise in ozone pollution in the Ozone pollution has gone up in the Alicante province in the last year, according to scientists.

They say that climate change – higher temperatures all year round and more intense heatwaves during the summer, is the cause of this type of air pollution that is formed when chemicals from cars, factory emissions, power plants etc. react in the presence of heat and sunlight. Ozone on ground level is extremely dangerous for humans, with the elderly and children most at risk. It is a harmful irritant to the lungs and

can be fatal to people suffering from breathing problems such as asthma and other respiratory illnesses. It can also reduce the body’s resistance to infection. Long-term, repeated exposure to high levels of ozone may lead to large reductions in lung function, inflammation of the lung lining and more frequent and severe respiratory discomfort.

In these municipalities, the maximum levels of ozone recommended by the World Health Organisation is exceeded in approximately four months of the year. In three of the municipalities – Elche, Orihuela and Torrevieja – the pollution levels are even worse and surpasses maximum levels every other day.

Readings taken from the 11 ozonemeasuring devices in the Alicante province show that the most polluted air in the area is found in Elche, Orihuela, Torrevieja, Elda, Pinoso and Alicante.

This toxic air, although it may originate in the larger cities where there is more traffic and industry, affects all areas as the pollutants are carried in the air to other areas, including those located further inland.

province has also seen an increase in allergies to pollen. Diesel emissions create particles which carry pollen in the air and in these particles the pollen is suspended for longer and therefore people are breathing it in in bigger quantities. Ecologists are calling for the Valencian Government and local town halls to do more to reduce ozone pollution as so far nothing has been done and the public has not even been informed of the dangers of breathing in this toxic air.

SAN JAVIER TOP GUN KILLED A military jet that crashed into the sea near San Javier on Monday was flown by one of Spain´s most experienced and capable test pilots. Commander Francisco Marín Núñez, who was 42-yearsof-age, married and with a young son, flew as part of the Patrulla Águila, the Spanish Air Force equivalent to the Red Arrows, was the sole pilot on board the C-101 aircraft when if crashed into the sea at 09:38 on Monday morning, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence. An investigation has been launched into the crash but it is believed that the pilot was about to practice some of the most complicated and risky manoeuvres the aerobatic team perform in their displays, including one called “zero speed”, “when the plane is suspended in the air and then falls”, which is similar to how witnesses described the crash this week. Since passenger operations were moved from San Javier to the Murcia Regional Airport at Corvera, the military planes have had more freedom to perform their flights as they were previously restricted as passenger and military traffic

were kept to separate times of the day. The Commander was known as being one of the best pilots in the team, and according to a source at the San Javier base, “He was the pilot in charge of taking the C-101 to the limit.” Commander Francisco Marín Núñez was born on October 11, 1976, in Murcia, a region where he lived with his wife and young son. Commander Marin was also a flight instructor for future pilots at the San Javier General Air Academy. He entered the academy in 1995 and, after graduating, served as a pilot in various units of the Air Force, including Ala 14, the Air Combat Command, flying the Eurofighter Typhoon, and Ala 23, the Personnel Command, who fly the Northrop F-5M Freedom Fighter. The pilot was in military operational service with the Spanish Air Force in Afghanistan in 2008, and during

BLADDER CANCER BREAKTHROUGH The University Hospital in Elche has been amongst a number of medical centres participating in a clinical trial, the results of which show positive signs for patients diagnosed with bladder cancer. Researchers from the molecular cancer therapy group at the Hospital del Mar de Investigaciones Médicas (IMIM) and doctors at the Hospital del Mar have discovered that a drug which is set to be withdrawn from the market as it is

hardly used is effective in metastatic bladder cancer patients who have not responded to standard therapy.

Preliminary results of a clinical trial in progress have revealed that the use of TAK-228, an inhibitor of mTORC1 / 2 proteins, can stop the progression of the disease. In 4 out of 7 patients who participated there has been a positive response. The lead author of the study and

Food-poisoning fraudsters pay the price As a result, the number of complaints of food poisoning in the last year has reduced dramatically. In fact, many Spanish hotels and tour operators have not had a single complaint this year. The shady practice of making false food-poisoning allegations, which ruined their holidays, by British tourists visiting Spain, and Benidorm in particular, exploded three summers ago. Spanish hotels claim to have lost 50 million euro between 2016 and 2018 because of it, and the number of claims and complaints rocketed by 500%. However, truth always prevails, and the lies are always exposed eventually – in this case sooner rather than later. In 2018, the tides turned, and the first rulings were given out by British courts where the tourists began to lose their cases and instead of compensation were given fines and prison sentences in their place.

Four members from one family from Liverpool, who holidayed in Benidorm in 2015, were sentenced to three months in prison and an 800€ fine after they tried to put in a false claim against Jet2Holidays, while two other British tourists were forced to pay TUI 15,000€ compensation after they were also found to be lying. In the above cases, the tourists had claimed that their holiday to Benidorm had been ruined after contracting food poisoning in their hotel and suffering sickness, diarrhoea and vomiting for days, even presenting medical reports that said so. However, the camera never lies, and photos posted on social media sites which saw them partying, on the beach and living life to the maximum ended up being their downfall.

Three transport companies announce strikes for September The end of the summer holidays could be ruined for thousands of tourists travelling to or from Alicante after three separate transport companies have announced strikes on 12 different dates in September. The most worrying and most likely to affect British tourists and residents in Spain is that declared by Ryanair cabin crew on 1, 2, 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29 September. The number of flights involved is currently unknown and will not be announced until the Department of Public Works establishes a minimum service on those days. The first of September is one of the busiest days for Alicante airport, with

333 flights programmed and 58,238 passengers set to arrive and depart from the airport that day. The second strike in September is being organised by Iberia ground workers at Barcelona’s El Prat airport on the last two days of the month. During those two days, six flights between the Catalan capital and Alicante have been scheduled, but, as yet, is it unclear if and how these flights will be affected. Finally, train company Renfe has also announced strikes on 30 August and 1 September, with a number of routes being cancelled on those days.

director of IMIM, Dr. Joaquim Bellmunt, said that the good results obtained with the use of this drug have been “a big surprise” because the Japanese pharmaceutical company that develops the drug, Takeda, intended to stop marketing it. The results, published in the journal “Molecular Cancer Research” showed not only good preclinical results of this drug, at the same time, researchers have found that was

7 more effective in a subset of tumours with specific characteristics, some genetic alterations that can be used as therapeutic targets. Dr. Bellmunt noting that “the drug we have studied can be converted into a second potential therapeutic target for patients with bladder cancer, because it is not chemotherapy or radiation therapy, or immunotherapy, but can attack specific genetic alterations found in tumours.”

Dear Davina... Dear Davina,

Every year I religiously send presents back to the UK to my friend’s children for their birthdays and Christmas, it’s something I’ve always done and up until last year my friend always did the same for my kids. However, it all seems to have stopped now from her and to be honest I don’t see why I should continue if she’s not doing the same. The kids are all growing older now and it’s just added expense. Am I wrong to just stop like it appears she has, or do I talk about this with her, I don’t want to appear mean? Di.

Dear Di,

Don’t worry about looking mean, present giving across countries takes up time with the postage and can also be costly. It looks to me as if your friend also concluded that it was time to stop it all, especially if the kids are growing older now. You can’t keep sending presents throughout their adult years, so it had to end at some point. I would just send a message or mention it if you talk to her by phone, just so you can stop worrying about it all. If you visit each other why not suggest that you will spend the money on a nice meal together or a day out? Making memories is always far better money spent and will cause you less stress all round. THE IMPORTANCE OF UNCERTAINTY AND VARIETY But why is that?

through these times, we love, we learn, we laugh and we cry. We live.

Surely if we knew what was to happen in every minute of every day we would lead calm and stress-free lives and have little to worry about.

So if we are to value the importance of uncertainty and variety, we need to ask ourselves right now, how much do we have in our lives.

We would be able to plan in

On a scale of 1 to 10 where

Variety is the spice of life' or so they say.

not plan to incorporate new things? I am not necessarily talking about jumping out of a plane, or hang-gliding, maybe that would be too much for you. But there is nothing wrong with evaluating what kind of emotions you are experiencing in daily life. Are they the same ones, or do they vary? Do you plan your life with uncertainty/ variety in mind? Or do you expect them to find you?

advance for every eventuality and control most things. So why the call for variety? Why the need to not have everything planned and mapped out? Uncertainty and variety are integral parts of life that affect our emotions, of which we have a full range. Whether we perceive our emotions as negative or positive they allow us to experience the high's and low's of life. And

would you put yourself? Are you someone who clings to routine, but who finds themselves bored and without excitement and challenge? Or do you already know that it is vital to our existence that put ourselves in new circumstances in order to have challenges and growth? To feel excited, scared and exhilarated. If we are to live each day with the intention of living fully, then should we

Maybe you focus on drama through t.v or gossip about other people's lives, but these are negative ways and will never lead to personal growth and longevity. Maybe you lean towards addictions as ways of feeling different? Easing stress and numbing down uncomfortable emotions, that could so easily be relieved by taking on a new challenge and re-focusing. Yes, it is easy to reach the fridge from your armchair, to grab a beer or piece of cake, but if you continuously do this, surely the comfort emotion becomes very shortlived and is replaced by one

of dissatisfaction and self-loathing as you spiral into the addiction. One I know that many people struggle with all their lives. So why not choose instead to feel good, from making a good choice? A lot of people these days struggle with a lack of confidence, but it may come as no surprise to learn that confidence is only gained by choosing to put oneself in new situations. Ones which give you that full range of emotions; not all positive in your experience of them, but positive in their value regarding learning and growing in confidence. Every time you do something new, your confidence grows and you stop being fearful of uncertainty and variety. In fact, you start to desire them in your life and plan them. So tell me, what have you planned today or this week, that will make you feel alive? That will challenge you and make you grow? That will make you feel uncertain about the outcome but willing to try anyway? Make this a week of adventure! Much love Nicola xx

While most of us have heard the name magnesium, very few of us are really aware of how important this essential health-promoting mineral is for our body and how it may help combat or prevent a whole host of debilitating chronic diseases. The average person has around 30g of magnesium in their body. This relatively small amount is vital to carry out 300 enzyme-related processes so

that the body continues to function well. Amongst its many functions, magnesium is used to convert food to energy, help control blood sugar, keeps blood vessels healthy and helps regulate heart and brain function. In today’s modern world, a huge number of people are magnesium deficient. This could be because they

MARVELLOUS MAGNESIUM rely too much on processed food and no longer drink water from a natural spring, which is rich in magnesium, and choose to drink bottled or tap water instead, which contains little or no magnesium at all. In addition, stress, pharmaceuticals, too much coffee, IBS and intense exercise will also deplete magnesium from the body, while with age magnesium levels also drop naturally.

50% of the body’s magnesium resides in our bones and teeth. A deficiency can lead to osteoporosis

People over the age of 70 are particularly at risk for low magnesium levels, with 80% of men and 70% of women failing to consume enough magnesium in their daily diets. The daily recommended dose of magnesium is 300mg for men and 270mg for women. Studies have shown that there is a higher mortality rate in people over the age of 65 with low levels of magnesium compared with people that have a regular amount of the mineral in their body.

Helps keep teeth for longer

Eases symptoms of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue

Eases PMS symptoms

Is invaluable against inflammation

Here are just some of the many benefits of maintaining optimum magnesium levels in the body: •

Keeps the heart healthy and reduces the risk of a heart attack or stroke

Natural sources of magnesium It’s easier to increase magnesium levels faster by taking supplements, such as magnesium carbonate, magnesium gluconate and magnesium sulphate. However, if you also want to consume natural food sources containing high amounts of this mineral, then you should add the following to your diet: whole grains, green leafy vegetables (kale, spinach, turnip greens and mustard greens), shellfish, fish (particularly salmon, tuna and mackerel), fruit (particularly

figs, bananas, raspberries and avocado), tofu, wheat bran, cashews, almonds, Brazil nuts, walnuts, dark chocolate, pumpkin and squash seeds. A surprising amount of tasty cooking spices are rich in magnesium as well, including dill, celery seed, basil, coriander, sage, tarragon and marjoram. Note that since calcium “competes” with magnesium for absorption, magnesium supplementation can cause calcium deficiency if levels are already low, so it’s best to take calcium supplements as well.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE MOVERS Although car sales across Europe are not increasing as quickly as the industry would like, there is one sector which has been responsible for significant growth, and that is of electricity-powered vehicles.

Across the continent, 1.33 million vehicles were registered in July, the last month for which the data was released this week, marking the highest July volume since 2007. The overall market is down by 2.5% so far this year, and yet in July new registrations were up by 1.2%. In terms of the style of vehicles, it is the SUV (sports utility vehicle) which is leading the way, making up 38% of the market, and the highest July result ever for the segment. Although the overall growth of 1.2% does not seem particularly impressive, when it is compared to the month before, it is a significant improvement after June had closed with a 7.9% drop.

“There is uncertainty in Europe. After many years of growth, the market shows signs of deceleration that is likely to continue if the German economy fails to grow again,” explains Felipe Munoz, JATO’s global analyst. Sadly, Spain is no longer leading the way for vehicle sales, after governmentbacked schemes had subsidised the trade-in for new vehicle schemes. In July the overall sales were down 9.8%, with only Lithuania scoring worse at minus 18.1%, although Spain did see 119,900 sales compared to Lithuania´s 2,266. For the year-to-date figure, Spain has seen a drop of 5.1% with 829,624 units. For their part, the UK has also seen a drop with July registering 4.1% fewer sales, with 157,239 new registrations, also down on the year-to-date figure by 3.5% to 1,426,957 new registrations. Registrations of electric vehicles totalled 96,600 units

in July – as demand increased by 29% from July 2018. The fuel type also saw a market share increase from 5.8% to 7.4%. “Even if they still makeup a comparatively marginal part of the overall market, electric vehicles are definitely becoming the industry’s bright

In association with

Other notable results included Volkswagen, where volume was up by 64%, Hyundai, where volume was up by 334%, and Audi, which sold 1,735 units of the E-Tron. Hybrid vehicles also performed well in July, as demand increased by 27% to 56,800 units. As usual, the rankings were dominated by Toyota and Lexus, but there were notable results from Mercedes, which came third, and Land Rover, whose new Evoque model became the 5th best-selling HEV during the month, also taking advantage of the zero emission rating issued to the vehicle here in Spain.

spot during these challenging times,” explains Munoz. The increase in EV’s market share came as a result of the outstanding performance of pure electric cars (BEVs), where volume was up by a huge 98% to 23,200 units. The growth was driven by Tesla – the top- selling brand – and Renault, which saw a 103% volume increase after its Zoe model became the topselling BEV during the month.

SAN JAVIER

Consumers bought 505,900 SUVs in July, as demand increased by 8.7%. This result puts fears of a deceleration in the segment to rest, which was a concern after demand for the car type slowed to the lowest recorded rate in June. However, the increase seen in July 2018 was still lower than the 35%, 18% and 12%

The rankings were led, once again, by the Volkswagen Golf, which was followed by the Volkswagen Polo, as both models posted double-digit growth. The most surprising result of the month was the Dacia Sandero, which came third in the rankings – the best ever result for the Romanian model. Elsewhere, the Opel Corsa saw a volume increase of 28%, boosted by strong demand in Germany (+82%) and Spain (+153%).

La Traviata at the Auditorium La Traviata, one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most well-known operas, is coming to Torrevieja and will be performed by the soloists, choir and orchestra of Ópera 2001 at the International Auditorium on Wednesday, 23 October at 9pm. La Traviata, or The Fallen Woman in English, is an opera performed in three acts set to an Italian libretto. It is based on La Dame aux Camélias (1852), a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas and has become the most frequently performed opera of all time. La Traviata tells the

story of the tragic love between the courtesan Violetta and the romantic Alfredo Germont. Played out against the hypocrisy of upper-class fashionable society, Alfredo and Violetta’s love threatens to shame his family. When his father directly appeals to Violetta to relinquish her one chance of happiness, Violetta submits, and her act of self-sacrifice leads to her paying the ultimate price. Tickets for this opera are already on sale and can be purchased online at https:// auditoriotor revieja. com/eventos/latraviata/. Prices range between 20€ and 35€.

DON'T BE SCARED OF THE AVOCADO

Many people choose to eliminate avocados from their diet because they wrongly believe that they are bad for you and cause you to put on weight.

avocados can aid weight loss because they are filling, meaning that you will actually eat less if you include avocados in your meals.

This is an outdated myth that needs to be put right as, in reality, people would do well to eat avocados on a regular basis.

LAS RAMBLAS GOLF SOCIETY

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Got something to say? Send your letters to editor@sunshinenews.es

Our thanks for this week's report go to our latest sponsors AccuWeather. After having been given the all-clear from Michael Fish, the pressure was on as we stormed into action for Monday's 1-2-3 Waltzer.

Dear sirs, As a resident of La Zenia I totally agree with your article from 23rd August titled Rubbish Welcome. I live around the corner from the rubbish shown in the picture. In our street, Calle Rubi, the rubbish piled around the bins is even worse (pictures attached). Most of it has been there for over 3 weeks. Sadly this is not uncommon. Oddly following your article the rubbish piled around the bins shown in your picture was taken away.

On cloud nine, with 83 points, were Bryan Neal, Pete Dunn, Nick Lee and Petina Murray. Mind you it was no landslide!

Por ultimo, John Shervell says to his caddy, ‘You've got to be the worst caddy in the world.' Caddy replies, ‘I don't think so. That would be too much of a coincidence.' Pues hasta la semana que viene Peter Reffell

Playing the back 9 twice due to essential work being carried out on the course Nick Lee was again singing in the rain after he blew away the opposition in Wednesday's Stableford.

Sadly the Orihuela Costa area is totally neglected and it shows from the poor state of the roads to the rubbish laying around everywhere.

With a thunderous 40 points he ‘rained' supreme leaving his wife Rachel giving him a cold front as she was runner up with 38. A very handsome local newspaper reporter (yes me!) breezed in with 35 points to claim 3rd. Just two ‘2's today (and it was a rollover!) which went to Alan Douglas and Graham Murray.

Keep up the good work in shaming those responsible. Best regards Tessa

JAMES ANDERSON PROVES HIS FITNESS FOR THE FOURTH TEST England seamer James Anderson bowled 20 overs for Lancashire second XI as he aims to prove his fitness for the fourth Ashes Test against Australia. The England legend is desperate to be in contention for selection for the fourth Test in just a few days time.

England’s leading Test wicket-taker, 37, bowled four overs in the first Test before tearing a calf muscle, which has kept him out of the last two matches.

He claimed 1-38 from 20 overs against Durham second XI at Chester. The fourth Test at Old Trafford Anderson’s home ground - begins on 4 September. Anderson, the fourthhighest wicket-taker of all time with 575, had figures of 1-16 from his first 15 overs and returned to the attack to take the second new ball, appearing to show no sign of injury.

He suffered a calf injury in a County Championship match against Durham at Sedbergh School in June but was passed fit for the opening Ashes Test.

However, he left the field on the first morning and did not bowl in the remainder of the game, which England lost. Anderson took 2-23 from nine overs for Lancashire second XI in a friendly against Leicestershire on 20

August.

The friendly against Durham at Chester Boughton Hall was specially arranged. England pulled off a remarkable one-wicket win in the third Test at Headingley to level the series at 1-1, but are still up against it because holders Australia will retain the Ashes if they win either of the final two Tests.

MAKO VUNIPOLA SET TO MISS ENGLAND'S FINAL WORLD CUP WARM-UP GAME Mako Vunipola is set to miss England's final Rugby World Cup warm-up game against Italy with a hamstring injury.

The prop suffered a small tissue tear against Ireland, shortly after making his long-awaited comeback from

another hamstring problem.

He is only expected to be out for around 10 days which shouldn't affect his involvement in the World Cup. Exeter's Ben Moon has been called up as cover ahead of the match at St James' Park, Newcastle on Friday 6 September. Moon is part of the squad flying to Treviso on Wednesday for another warm-

weather training camp, with Charlie Ewels, Matt Kvesic and Joe Marchant - who are not part of the World Cup squad also involved.

Meanwhile, England still hopes wing Jack Nowell will be fit to travel to the World Cup, despite Exeter Chiefs boss Rob Baxter admitting he was "touch and go" for the showpiece in Japan. Despite cautious optimism from the England camp, Nowell's recovery from the ankle injury suffered in the Premiership final in May has

been far from smooth. Earlier this month, the player admitted he pushed himself "too hard" in a bid to be fit for the World Cup. England had expected him to feature in part of this month's warm-up schedule, but now accept he will only be available for the opener against Tonga on 22 September at the earliest. With Ruaridh McConnochie also recovering from injury, Jonny May, Anthony Watson and Joe Cokanasiga are the only fit wingers in the squad.

RED BULL THREAT TO MERCEDES DOMINATION The most interesting development of the immediate pre-break phase of the season was the improvement of Red Bull as they now look like a genuine threat to Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton.

Max Verstappen won two of the last four races on merit and but for a bold Mercedes strategy gamble in Hungary, that might easily have been three from four. Taking only those last four races, it has qualified an average of just 0.2s adrift of the Mercedes. It also appears to be delivering its lap time in quite a similar

way to the Mercedes, despite its quite different design philosophy.

race but almost did not win - simply because it did not qualify on pole.

its development programme compares with that of Mercedes.

In Austria, the Merc was only 10th fastest through the speed trap, 0.5kph faster than the 11th-fastest Red Bull. At

It could not get its front tyres quickly enough up to temperature for the first two corners in qualifying, allowing Verstappen to steal pole and thereby have track position in the race. With cars so evenly matched, qualifying performance becomes more important.

But that aggressive engine development and usage policy mean Honda faces some tough choices in the remaining races. It is very excited by the Spec 4 engine it has ready for introduction. It believes that this will bring it to power parity with Mercedes (though still behind Ferrari).

Unlike earlier in the season, Mercedes no longer has enough of a raw pace advantage that it can surrender some qualifying lap time (to give better tyre performance in the race) and still be sure of taking pole.

But there is the difficult question of when to introduce it, as it will be a fourth power unit for Verstappen in the season to date and therefore will incur a grid penalty. With nine races still to go, introducing it immediately (at Spa) would also probably e n t a i l another p e n a l t y later in the season, as nine events is probably too much of a mileage

Silverstone they were 13th and 16th. As Red Bull has edged closer, so there has come an acceptance at Mercedes that it can no longer afford the luxury of setting the car up for maximum race performance. This was a point made very clear in Hungary where the Mercedes was definitely faster than the Red Bull in the

Red Bull and Honda, meanwhile, are happy to run their set up and engine very aggressively, to put pressure on Merc and without any real championship concerns. As we head into the latter half of the season it's going to be fascinating to see if Red Bull and Honda can maintain this sort of form and how

stretch for one engine. Singapore (the third of the nine remaining races) is identified by Red Bull as a circuit on which it expects to be super-strong, so it will likely not wish to take the grid penalty there. Japan - the fifth of the nine - obviously has a very high priority for Honda on its own circuit, making Suzuka an unlikely venue for voluntary grid demotion. The latter part of the season is shaping up to be more competitive than the first so half so Lewis Hamilton may not have it all his own way over the final few races of the season.
