Focus on Health, Love and Carnival
Focus on Health Love and Carnival The Zenia Boulevard shopping centre is planning to drive a campaign through this year which aims to encourage healthier living and habits for everyone. The shopping village, managed by Ceetrus, has devised the ‘Focus On’ initiative to raise awareness amongst visitors of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Ceetrus manages 30 shopping centres in Spain and almost 400 across 12 countries.
Orihuela´s councillor for urban cleaning, Dámaso Aparicio, has announced the start of a campaign to remove plastics and light containers from the beaches of Orihuela. The councillor announced that following the recent weather conditions, a lot of waste has been washed up on the beaches
of the municipality, not only of a natural origin, much of which is protected under European rules and must be treated with care as it helps to maintain the natural balance of the ecosystems in the water, there has also been a considerable amount of plastic washed up which is not only unsightly but poses a real threat to the marine environment.
In order to ensure that the waste doesn´t return to the sea, Aparicio reported that he has directed the street cleaning teams to the beaches to clear the waste and that they will be supported by volunteers. The collection campaign started on Tuesday in Cala Estaca and Continued on page 3

LEGAL AID BLOW Although many workers were celebrating last week´s announcement that the minimum wage was to be increased in Spain, the legal sector has this week warned that the increase will put many people over the threshold for receiving free legal aid.
The wage increase was amongst the first measures announced by the newly formed PSOE – United Podemos coalition government, which would see the minimum professional salary increased, a move that would benefit 2 million people.
SERIOUS INCIDENTS A woman, said to be 62-years-of-age, suffered a head trauma in an accident whilst cycling through the residential area of Rojales, according to informed provided by the 112 emergency coordination centre. Meanwhile, a 30-year-old male died when his car left the A-70 motorway as it passes through Elche in the early hours of the morning. Although medics were quick to the scene there was nothing they could do to save his life.
LOVE ON THE COAST
However, for those individuals without a family will now go over the threshold for legal aid, meaning they would have to pay any court or legal fees themselves.
The Alameda del Mar civic centre on the Orihuela Costa may be where Cupid´s arrow hits a heart or two this week, as the municipal building hosts a special Valentine´s event.
This threshold is the result of doubling the value of the annual IPREM which in 2016 was 6,390 euro. The IPREM is an index used in Spain as a reference for the provision of grants, subsidies or unemployment benefits. This index has been growing in recent years at a lower rate than the minimum wage.
Starting at 1:30 p.m., guests will be served a special luncheon of love, accompanied by live music and the chance to dance.
BAR BAN A cocktail bar in Huelva which refused entry to 5 Chinese people has had a taste of its own medicine by being closed by the authorities as it violated terms of admission on the grounds of race. The bar was punished by a closure, which may last a month, when the doorman refused to allow the 5 students entry, listing several ‘fake’ reasons for doing so. According to the law, an establishment cannot impose any admission conditions that it has not requested and has not been expressly authorised in advance.

FUTURE AID FOR FLOODING PLANNED The Alicante provincial government is developing a plan that will allow general emergency aid to municipalities affected by meteorological or natural disasters in order to expedite and accelerate the assistance required, by reducing the administrative processing of these grants.

"This process will be much more agile because the plan will be financially endowed from the contingency fund, which will allow for payment from day one," said Morant, who has reported that work is currently being done on the development of these bases. In the current system of administrative processing, the granting of this type of aid requires modification of credits for the creation of the budget item and, subsequently, the approval of the bases that gives rise to the opening of the deadline for requesting aid, "a bureaucratic process that, at best, requires at least 60 days to be effective," Morant said.
The announcement is the latest in a string of lessons learnt from the flooding last September. In this latest initiative, the provincial councillor responsible, Alejandro Morant, explained that it is a tool "that will allow us to act more

Benidorm´s Terra Mitica theme park is celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2020 by expanding the hotel at the site aimed at creating what will be his first luxury resort with themed bungalows inspired by ancient Egypt. Items that can be sold loose will be accompanied by a barcode label attached by a small band, whereas packages items will be in a mesh bag. HOW WELL DOES YOUR INVESTMENT OR PENSION PERFORMANCE COMPARE? By Sam Kelly DipPFS, EFA, BA (Hons) Managing Partner, Chorus Financial One of the unique services Chorus offers is a full in-depth portfolio analysis which will help you understand exactly how well your current advisor is doing vs others and the wider markets. What exactly does this mean? Well, let’s first of all cover the factors that dictate the performance of your portfolios: • Charges • Your attitude to risk • The quality of your underlying funds • The quality of the overall fund allocation Charges speak for themselves – the lower the better, but without compromising on quality. Your attitude to risk should dictate the overall risk score of your portfolio. For example, you may be a Medium risk investor (this could be ‘Balanced’, or perhaps 4/7 on a risk score). This would generally mean we’d expect to see around 40-60% of your portfolio made up of the riskier types of assets, so stocks and shares, and the rest in more stable assets like fixed interest, bonds etc. The quality of your underlying funds is incredibly important – there are literally thousands of funds out there, and
we’d expect to see clients in those that are performing in the top 5% in the World – not always the case from what we see here in Spain! The overall fund allocation is how your advisor has put your portfolio together. This could mean you have a good mix of say 12-16 high-quality funds, all chosen for very specific reasons to spread your assets across different sectors, geographical regions etc. If all of the above is done well, then this should result in you outperforming the overall investment markets, and indeed outperforming what’s on offer from other investment firms here in Spain. What we see in reality is that most people live in a bubble. They can see their performance, but they have no idea if it’s actually good when compared to the wider markets. If you’re a balanced investor and you’ve made 8% this year, is that really good performance, or perhaps for the risk you’ve taken you might have expected more? How can you really know?
Our analysis immediately identifies if you fall into that very dangerous category, and from that we can help you make changes to bring your risk vs reward back into balance.
This is where our analysis helps. We will input your exact portfolio (so the exact amount you hold into each fund) into a special system, and this will analyse exactly where your performance lies when compared to high-quality portfolio runs by some of the UK’s top investment managers. We’ll be able to tell you exactly how risky your portfolio is using the Financial Express Risk Scoring system – an industry-leading benchmark. From this, we can tell you if your portfolio falls into the correct category for you – ie Cautious, Medium, High etc. So how can this help me? Well, when you put your money into any type of investment, you are balancing the risk you’re willing to take versus the potential rewards on offer. Sadly, here in Spain, we see many people who are actually taking far more risk than the rewards they are seeing can justify.
Naturally, Chorus are happy to put our money where our mouth is, and the picture in this article is our Chorus Balanced portfolio, which we’ve been publishing for many years now, benchmarked against the AFI Balanced portfolio. The AFI Balanced is the performance of a panel of the UK’s leading financial advice firms, and Chorus are very proud to say that we outperform them year after year. As this is a fairly labour-intensive service that we are currently offering for free, we are only able to carry it out for portfolios of £200,000 or more, or currency equivalent. Hopefully, in the future we’ll be able to offer this to everyone. To take advantage you will need to email a full valuation – which shows the name of your funds and the exact level of each holding to s.kelly@ chorusfinancial.es – please allow 5 working days for a response. If you wish to discuss this, or any other financial matters, you can call me direct on +34 664 398 702.

POWER OF THE PET
Animals have enriched and improved the lives of people for hundreds of years, from assisting fire rescues to therapy dogs who sense seizures. Today animals continue to enrich the lives of many on a daily basis, all over the world.
to become happier and more confident in their environment. The therapy animals can also help patients to shift their focus away from the constant worries of their illness and depression and keep them feeling positive and occupied.
More and more retirement homes and hospitals are starting to incorporate pet therapy into their programs due to the positive effects pets have on vulnerable people.
Many patients struggle with a c c e p t a n c e especially patients with decreased capability to perform daily activities as they can often feel shy and selfconscious, but this can be changed by spending time with the therapy animals as they provide unconditional love no matter what your physical or mental capacities are and help bring patients out of their shell. Providing basic care and communicating with therapy animals helps patients stimulate memory and focus.

there has been huge improvements in their moods and social interaction with other patients after spending time interacting with therapy pets. Schools Therapy dogs have also visited schools or assisted classes with students who have special needs. I personally have experienced the positive effect that comes with bringing a dog into the classroom. My Galgo (Spanish Greyhound) named Jackson, has visited many classrooms to assist animal welfare talks with students in many different schools. Having an animal in the classroom that has experienced abuse or abandonment has inspired students to stand up for animal rights, to volunteer at local shelters, to fundraise to help animals in need
and most importantly to be a voice for the voiceless. Jackson has helped students understand the importance of the work animal rescues do on a daily basis and teaches the students about empathy, responsibility and respect. Watching animals in action and seeing how they enrich the lives of our most vulnerable people is truly heartwarming. They love us with no boundaries and accept us for who we are. We should not underestimate the power of a pet.

When we presume we judge, we don’t allow the person to be themselves and we have expectations that are often misguided.
So what is the key to avoiding being presumptuous? I believe the answer lies in our awareness that we actually do it in the first place and then being conscious of our communication style.

The more we love, the more happiness and positivity we experience in life, so with this in mind, we have found a key solution in creating emotional happiness. We need to look for things to love instead of things to hate. We need to talk about what we love, love ourselves and love others.
Some say ‘Money makes the world round’ and it certainly goes a long way, but what fuels our passion for money is a love of it and what it can do for us and give us. So the truth is, it's 'Love' that makes the world go round. And its for obvious reasons. When we meet someone and we fall in love, we experience a whole range of intoxicating emotions. Our bodies feel more alive, we are swimming inside with constant f l u s h e s of happy chemicals being released into our system. Even the outside world seems a happier, brighter and

When we think of being healthy, we generally think about our physical selves, but what about our emotional selves?
Love, Love, Love. Most of us love to eat and don’t need a special day like Valentine's day to indulge ourselves in what I call ‘Happy food.’
love does light us up. We even tend to focus on the more positive side of life. When we live in love, we experience life at a higher vibrational level and our emotional self becomes healthy. It's not just being in love with a person that creates more emotional health. We can be in love with animals, or our homes, our jobs, or nature. Love has no limits. We can create a love for something just by stating it ‘I love that dress’ we might say and we feel it. We feel the

People end up leaving us because of our lack of warmth towards them and we all suffer. Without it we are nothing. So on this beautiful Valentine’s day, ask yourself not just who you love? But what do you love? And how can you create more emotional happiness by loving more? Maybe you can just be in nature and love how it stimulates our senses. Maybe you can start learning something new, or get a new hobby and learn to love it. Maybe you can prioritize love more, by being more loving. Allowing yourself and others to live happier lives. And by realizing its importance in life and the world.

Love is in the Air
Today is the day of love, and so it seems appropriate to mark when our love of the automobile first came to light, or at least it did for the royal family, as it was on this day in 1896 that Edward Prince of Wales, who later become King Edward VII, became the first member of the British Royal Family to ride in a motor vehicle, which, in case you wonder, was a Daimler.

It was in 1959 under the guidance of the Board of Trade that Standard Triumph purchased a small engineering works and nearby vacant site in the Speke district of Liverpool. On the same day in 1983,

The vehicle, which was painted black and equipped with its unique trademark carbon bodyshell, was designated for a customer in Japan. CHINESE F1 CANCELLED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS The Chinese Grand Prix has been cancelled after an official announcement was made on Wednesday afternoon. It is not known if the race in Shanghai will take place at a later date in the season or if bosses will make the decision to have one less race than was originally planned. F1 and the FIA released a joint statement on Wednesday to confirm
Health Organisation after more than 1,000 people died and 45,000 positive cases were detected. Following the additions of the Vietnam and Netherlands Grands Prix, the 2020 F1 calendar has swelled to an all-time high of 22 races before the Chinese round was cancelled, meaning that teams will still have 21 races to tackle unless there are any further changes The decision the F1 bosses means that it will leave a four-week gap in the calendar, as it was due to take place between the Vietnamese Grand Prix on and the Dutch Grand Prix on May 3

Ross Brawn spoke to the media on Wednesday and responded to the rumours suggesting that another famous F1 track could replace the Chinese Grand Prix for the season ahead and said Replacing the Grand Prix wit another
country is not something we are looking at. We will leave open the opportunity to see if the race can run later in the year. “China is an enthusiastic, growing market. So we'd like to have a race in China.”
In other F1 news, Lewis Hamilton's future has been the subject of much speculation over the last few months, with the six-time world champion's Mercedes deal expiring at the end of this year. There have been strong suggestions that Hamilton could switch from Mercedes to Ferrari but that now seems unlikely. Mercedes chief Toto Wolff insisted at the team's car launch on Monday that keeping Hamilton was the main goal and expected Hamilton to sign a new contract. "We would like to have the fastest man in the car, said Wolff. "I know Lewis wants to be in the fastest car so there is a mutual outcome. It is the obvious pairing going forward."There are not many places where Lewis will have the environment and framework

their opponents barely had time to create anything let alone meaningful progress towards goal. IAt the break, Monte were on course for the win with their hand firmly on the tiller.
Barely needing to get out of second gear, CD Montesinos chalked up their 18th victory so far in this campaign as they continue to look down on the chasing pack.
HT: CD Montesinos 4 v 0 Formentera CF
Their opposition, Formentera, provided a stiff test when they clashed last year, but today's Monte side are a much different proposition. Playing with an assertive zip and impetus, after a cagey start, the Reds quickly stamped their authority on the game,
In an attempt to make a game of it, Formentera made changes in the second, moving a defender up to plug the leaks that were too easily exploited by Monte in the first half. This made for a tighter, less fluid, game, but the home side were still comfortably the dominant force. A comical (on this day at least) mix-up at the back between two defenders and goalie, saw the Formentera number 17 get scant reward for his efforts, rolling home the loose ball to pull one back. But this was no real fight back and a
few minutes later GONZALO (22) scored his hat-trick from the spot after a clear penalty shout. Formentera continued to try and disrupt the Montesinos supply lines to the front and despite a plethora of substitutions (including new boy CRISTIAN (23) making his debut from the junior squad), a further goal from substitute GERMAN (8), set up by MANU SANCHEZ (9) rounded off the scoring, for the day. Kudos to Formentera, another decent, honest footballing side, for making a fist of it, but, in the final analysis, Monte have quality all over the pitch and when they play at their best it's increasingly hard to see who could stop them in their quest for ultimate glory. Vamos Monte. Man of the Match was GONZALO, selected by Derek Brearley, Graham Burge, and Bryan Jones. Match report by Official Chief Sports Correspondent Steve Robinson. Photos by Terry Harris.
that will give him the best base for his ambitions. "We know what we get with him and we have a trusting relationship. From a rational standpoint, continuing for a while is the most probable conclusion." Mercedes have been simply untouchable and with Hamilton at the wheel for a reported two extra years, that domination looks set to continue. Hamilton's current contract is believed to be worth somewhere in the region of 100 million but that figure is expected to rise to 160 million in this new deal.

JORDAN HENDERSON FAVOURITE FOR WIN AT PFA AWARDS 2020 Jordan Henderson is favourite to win at the PFA awards 2020 In 2014, Luis Suarez swept the awards board, lifting the PFA gong, the Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year award, the PFA Fans Player of the Year and the Football Supporters Federation Player of the Year, as Liverpool infamously capitulated in the dying embers of the season to finish second behind Manchester City. History does not look likely to repeat itself for the Reds this season. The sole survivor of Brendan Rodgers side, Jordan Henderson is now captaining a Liverpool side to a record-breaking title, marshalling the midfield both as a No.8 and deeper as a No.6 in Fabinhos absence. The England man has been solid and steady this season, with outstanding displays recently against Wolves and Southampton, where he scored and assisted in both games. As things stand, Henderson is the bookies' favourite and deservedly so Other potential winners on the list include Manchester City midfielder

Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian was pipped by Salah in 2018 and missed almost all of last season due to injury, but is making up for it this campaign by already racking up many assists and goals showing just how important he is to City.
Mo Salah has to be considered and always performs on the big stage. Back-to-back Premier League Golden Boots see Salah the joint-favourite for the award, the Egyptian hoping to be crowned as the divisions finest player for a second time after success in 2018
His teammate Raheem Sterling will also be having his fair share of votes
The Liverpool forward has starred since moving to Anfield from Roma two seasons ago and will be key to Jurgen Klopp's sides hopes of going one better than last seasons runners-up position.
after having another fantastic season for club and country. The improvement in Sterling's all-round game is remarkable over the last 2 seasons. Although Henderson is currently the bookies favourite, he will have to beat two of his Liverpool teammates who have also been in fine form.
Virgil Van Dijk won last years award but it seems unlikely he will win this year due to the unbelievable form of three of his teammates Henderson, Salah and Sadio Man. The African Footballer of the Year, Sadio Mane has enjoyed a phenomenal couple of years at Anfield, lifting the Champions League last summer and scoring 15 goals so far this season for Liverpool, including two in the European Super Cup against Chelsea.
The Senegalese frontman is reportedly a big favourite among his colleagues and commands huge respect from his rivals. Until his recent injury, he was in fine form, netting or assisting in all but one match in December. He may well have done enough to leave an impression in voters minds and could be Henderson's biggest threat. Jamie Vardy is the outsider but is expected to receive a lot more votes than first thought and is a dark horse for the award. Vardy has been largely left out of award talk but the 33-year-old went on a particularly fruitful purple patch in the league in the first half of the season, scoring in eight consecutive league games for Leicester, including the 9-0 drubbing of Southampton. That has lead to many football fans calling for him to be back in England's squad ready for Euro 2020. The current holders of the PFA Players Player of the Year award are Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk and Arsenals Vivianne Miedema. Previous winners of the prestigious PFA Players Player of the Year award have included Kim Little, Mohamed Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lucy Bronze.
