ORIHUELA URGES WATER CHANNEL CLEARING

Coronavirus Alert in Torrevieja A suspect case of the coronavirus in Torrevieja caused the isolation plan to be implemented this week. An individual, said to be 66-years-of-age, had recently visited the Chinese city of Wuhan. Medical sources reported that this woman presented herself to hospital with symptoms of suffering from a respiratory disease type influenza, with fever and a cough, which were symptoms of both a normal cold but also compatible

Orihuela´s councillor for infrastructure, Ángel Noguera, has held a working meeting with those responsible for the water commission of the CHS (Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura) to try to learn firsthand what work is being carried out to prevent future flooding in the municipality, especially the

coastal areas, as was the case in September. In particular, the town hall wants to know what action is being taken to clear the channels designed to carry water from the inland areas to the sea, which has remained blocked by reeds both before and since the September DANA. Evidence of lack of action is still

present in areas such as the border with Mil Palmeras, where the water channel had not been cleared for some years, the reeds subsequently slowing down the flow of water and allowing it to build up in areas where it should have been clear to pass. To date, damaged fencing is Continued on page 3

with the coronavirus. The woman reported that she had recently been in Wuhan and so the hospital immediately implemented an isolation protocol. Her partner, a 52-year-old male, was also admitted to the hospital as a precaution, although he was not displaying any symptoms. However, on Tuesday, tests came back as negative for the virus and so the isolation protocol was lifted.

AIRPORT PARKING TO BE REDESIGNED The management of Alicante-Elche Airport has announced that they will be redesigning the drop-off parking facility at the airport to reduce congestion before the Easter rush.

It does mean that in the interim period there will be some disruption, but the airport hopes that the work will reduce the queues of cars trying to enter the short-stay area where parking is permitted for free for a maximum of 15 minutes.

The work started this week and, once completed, will provide more parking bays and more access barriers, an increase from the current three to five, to subsequently avoid queues of vehicles that occur at certain times, especially during high season, which sometimes collapse the internal traffic within the airport.

which will include more advanced number plate readers capable of monitoring for drivers who use the facility more than is considered normal and may therefore be acting as illegal taxis on “airport runs”.

The work is scheduled to be completed at the beginning of April, a day before the start of the Easter rush, allowing drivers the chance to get used to the

Orihuela Urges Water Channel Clearing

still covered by police tape, indicative of the lack of action on the Orihuela Costa, which may well have escalated the damage in the entire municipality. Ángel Noguera, accompanied by council technicians and the company responsible for the water movement, stressed “the need to improve communication between institutions to achieve greater coordination that allows actions at specific sites that may be necessary due to their urgency according to the zones”. In the meeting, the arrangements of the channels of the ravines were discussed, but above all, the councillor wanted to stress the importance of protecting the city rather than the coast, explaining “the need to act in the headwaters, which are the areas where all the rocks and other elements that flood the urban areas come from”, and more in Orihuela,

where the sierra has many ravines whose channels end in urban areas such as in the historic centre of Orihuela, the San Antón neighbourhood, La Aparecida, El Raiguero, Montepinar, among others. The work to be done that was proposed to the CHS would be the “maintenance of the channels of the ravines in the headwaters, as well as the construction of retaining walls so that the water does not move with such virulence to urban areas”. The department of infrastructure also focussed on the city, where "work is being done to recover projects in the centre of Orihuela", a project that was proposed in 2008 and that was not implemented. This project includes a series of actions aimed at laminating the water that comes from Monte San Miguel, channelling

Of the 32 channels that the Segura River has as it passes through the municipality of Orihuela, only 7 are at the control of the local authority, the remaining 25 are maintained by the CHS and “are abandoned”, so the department of infrastructure “urged the CHS to expedite maintenance work, especially those that are close to urban

The department of infrastructure is working with the provincial

service in charge of the beaches for a channelling project at the mouth of the River Nacimiento in Campoamor, but for this it is necessary to coordinate the actions with the CHS so that the Rambla de Campoamor is channelled and cleaned.

WE TALK THE TALK, BUT DO WE WALK THE WALK? By Sam Kelly DipPFS, BA (Hons), Managing Partner, Chorus Financial. performance, and investment returns may be less than those illustrated. In order to achieve any kind of returns these days, you must be willing to put your capital at some degree of risk.

I’m sure you’ll all be aware by now that I’m not exactly shy in my beliefs that Chorus offers the best investment management service here in Spain! Rather than me just saying it, I’m sure you’d all be interested to know how we do it? A typical Spanish investment bond or pension here may contain a handful of funds that the financial advisor’s firm have on a ‘recommended fund list’. I can look at pretty much any portfolio here in Spain and have an idea of which firm put it together. The options are often limited, and the fees can be incredibly high. Chorus takes a very different approach. When we say we are independent, we genuinely mean it. We have access to the full fund market, and each and every Chorus portfolio is designed for the individual client. So how does the process work? The blue line on the chart you can see is an actual portfolio I put together for a client with a Balanced attitude to risk. In simple terms, we’d expect a balanced portfolio to have no more than 40-60% exposed to equities, with the rest in cash, fixed interest, property, bonds and alternatives. The red line on the chart is the FTSE 100, an index

of the UK’s 100 biggest companies (which would class as a 100% equity, high-risk investment). The chart covers 27/01/2015 until 24/01/2020. The Chorus portfolio has achieved smoother returns vs the FTSE, whilst taking around 50% of the risk of investing in 100% equities. We achieved this by creating the most optimal portfolio possible within the client’s risk tolerance. This meant analysing thousands of funds, choosing only those with the strongest track records, and best performance within their sector and creating a risk-weighted portfolio. The portfolio covered different sectors, regions, and asset types for maximum diversification. Each fund is then closely monitored for the life of the plan, with changes and rebalancing made where

necessary to optimise returns. Many funds used here in Spain cost as much as 2-3% and those charges are rarely disclosed. The average fund cost on this portfolio was around 0.6% per annum (costs can vary, and advice on a specific portfolio can only be offered when we have assessed your circumstances). As always, we encourage you to Google investments and research them for yourselves. This specific portfolio contains funds from Rathbones, Royal London, Vanguard, Schroders, Fundsmith & others, with information on fees and past performance all available online. As with any investment, I cannot and will not guarantee returns. Past performance does not guarantee future

One thing I will promise is that a Chorus advisor will always act truly independently and analyse the open market for the very best funds for your pension or investment. We use major global fund-houses in tightly regulated jurisdictions with decades of experience and track record. This ensures you are in the best possible place to meet your investment goals. People are still signing up every day to over-priced, poorly managed pension & investment portfolios here in Spain. Before you sign that paperwork, get a second opinion! This is even more important if you are considering an investment with a tie-in, as you may find you are stuck with a bad advisor paying high fees for life or forced to pay a heavy exit penalty to move elsewhere. If you want to discuss anything with me, simply call direct on 664 398 702 or email me on s.kelly@chorusfinancial. es. Initial advice is free and without pressure or obligation.

SPANISH SCIENTISTS REVERSE OSTEOARTHRITIS Spanish scientists have discovered that a combination of two experimental medications reverses the cellular and molecular signs of osteoarthritis in rats and in human cell cultures, as well as in isolated cells from human cartilage.

synergistic action of two previously identified molecules (aKlotho and Tgfbr2) could improve the efficacy of osteoarthritis treatment, considering that each of these experimental medications separately had moderated the symptoms of osteoarthritis.

This study, which has been published in Protein & Cell, has been directed by researcher Juan Carlos Izpisúa of the Salk Institute of California in the USA and Professor Pedro Guillén, a researcher at the Cemtro Clinic.

"We think that by combining these two molecules that work in different ways, perhaps we could achieve a better result," explained Paloma MartínezRedondo, an associate researcher at the Salk Institute, who believes that the results obtained in human cell cultures are a good indication that this treatment could work in patients.

This study investigated whether the

People suffering from osteoarthritis have very few treatment options. There are currently no approved medications that can prevent, stop or even restrict the progression of osteoarthritis.

"The treatments that are currently used are aimed at reducing pain, inflammation and disability by delaying cartilage wear and disease progression, but they do not cure it, and joint replacement surgery is inevitably reached", explained Guillen. In the research development of this procedure to try to cure osteoarthritis,

researchers from the Salk Institute of California have participated; the Cemtro Clinic Research Unit; the Catholic University of San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM); the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Harvard University.

HAPPY PETS RESCUE FOOD APPEAL

A big thank you to the lovely Sunshine News readers who have already contributed to the food appeal

Happy Pets Rescue is currently running low on funds and the little funding coming in goes straight towards much needed veterinary treatments, leaving very little funding for food.

The food appeal was started to collect pet food donations locally to keep our rescues happy and well-fed. We are mainly looking for cat and kitten food, both dry and wet food as we go through approximately 20 kilos of cat food a week for the

cats and kittens in our care, this does not include the local street cats we help feed. Cat litter is also very helpful, keeping litter trays fresh and clean is important for their health, so we use a lot of litter too.

The main drop off point for food donations is The Emerald Isle, La Florida. Food donations can be dropped off any day of the week from 10 am. Your

You can follow the progress of all our animals and get regular updates on our Facebook page search “Happy Pets Rescue. Below are a few pictures of the many donations received. A big thank you from myself and all the animals you are helping to care for.

CHOOSE LIFE... CHOOSE HEALTH

In a world where we seemingly spend half our life eating our way into a bad state of health and the other half taking drugs to stave off disease and illnesses, it is confusing as to how we should be eating, drinking and taking into our bodies.

nutrition and is directly linked to the pharmaceutical industry who focuses more on cure than prevention.

Some of us believe a plant-based diet can provide us with all the nutrition we need and lead us into a healthier life, some don't consider what they eat and are more focused on other parts of their life, like creating great wealth and there are those in between, that go from one diet and exercise fad to the other.

But what about if we want to take our health into our own hands? What if we want to make informed decisions based on our own experiences and research? Then we can rightly do so.

We may consider in the awareness that the food and drink industry cares more about profit than providing

Or we may believe that we don't have many choices and that what we are offered is what we must take, makes life simple no?

Every one of us is a unique individual that is genetically different, with this in mind I believe we have to get to know ourselves and our bodies to know what we need. Our bodies are our guidance system and they reflect our health, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally and spiritually. So what we need to do is be aware of them, how they feel inside, via pain and discomfort, what they are manifesting externally, then adapt what we are absorbing until we find what fits us. Balance in all things is key, if we are out of balance we know it, we get ill, have low energy, feel depressed, have no enthusiasm for life. Our body is always talking to us. It’s no good listening to the experiences of others and then acting in accordance

when we are all different, it just won’t work. Natural remedies have been around for centuries and although they are not offered so frequently as pharmaceutical treatments, they still have their place. Quite often they can offer relief without side effects, yet they should still be researched before consuming. In an emergency surgical intervention or antibiotics may save your life, but does it mean that chemicals can be absorbed naturally in our bodies, especially over a long period, without consequence?

socially and with family and friends we increase our emotional health, but not all of us want to party the night away meeting new people. Some of us prefer small groups, or to dine and converse in a relaxed atmosphere. Re-charging our batteries is vital to balance ourselves, and that may mean being alone with our comforts or it may mean going to a concert or show, with others. To know ourselves is to love ourselves, to love ourselves is to have health in all areas. There is no bigger investment to make in life. No time to waste than in making sure you can enjoy a happy, pain-free existence based on your choices, your decisions, and your lifestyle. Listen to your body... it is always talking to you.

With a wealth of professionals out in the world, we have so much opportunity, to find the right diet for us, the right exercise for us, the right spiritual practices for us and the right ways to connect. Through

TRAUMA

What really stops us from achieving our goals? Is it: • • • • • • • • • • • •

Procrastination? Fear? Lack of discipline? Lack of motivation? Fear of success? Fear of failure? Self-sabotage? External sources? Lack of funds? Lack of knowledge? Lack of know-how? Lack of time?

My answer is… yes to all of them! Yet, I am not quite satisfied with knowing all these things, but also understanding that for some people, knowing all these things contributes to their lack of success, yet they are still not able to push through. So, is there an underlying factor, that may also be the key to all the above? I think there is and I believe it is ‘Untreated trauma’ If you have resistance to change, no matter how much you know you need it, if you have illnesses despite eating

11

Health & Wellbeing by Nicola Farnhill Connected to Self

healthily, if you have anxiety and fear regularly and for no obvious reason, if you have toxic relationships and you self-sabotage, it is highly likely that you are suffering from a trauma you experienced at some time in your life. Trauma can be through a shock like an accident, a natural disaster, a broken limb, or some kind of abuse, it can be through being overworked and having no relaxation time or a high level of pressure. It can also be through an anaesthesia or near-death experience or poor treatment whilst being in a vulnerable state. Trauma can occur in the womb before we are born or in birth. Through lack of safety in infancy and childhood and through not having our needs met. The effects of trauma are directly linked to how we perceive life and how we respond to it. Do you always feel like you are unsafe in new situations? Do you play small and wish you could step out into the world courageously and without fear of failure? This may be because you didn’t develop a safe attachment

system with your main caregiver as a child. In other word’s your basic needs weren’t met, so to survive you took on the belief, that you must stick with what you know, not take risks and not trust easily. Now you can see how this kind of belief system would help you in a survival situation, but how does this belief system work when growing up and wanting to explore the world and its opportunities? That’s right it doesn’t. The worst thing is, that the more you practice a belief, the more it becomes your religion. This in turn, makes it harder to step out of. In fact, it becomes almost impossible. After all, why would you want to ever feel unsafe? Yet you know underneath, that in order to experience life you have to meet new people, go to new places, take risks, learn new things and grow. Because if you don’t grow, you die. You die inside, you stay at the exact age emotionally, as when the trauma occurred. Your life becomes like an ever-repeating record, and if you do manage to step out of your trauma-based beliefs and behaviours for a while, you eventually fall back into your safety net. This pattern is so exhausting, so frustrating and so depressing, yet there are so many people living it and accepting it. And the sad part of it is, they are often using addictions or prescribed drugs as a way of escaping the cycle and coping with trauma. So, what is the solution, if trauma really is the roadblock to happiness, freedom, success, courage, wealth, health, joy and living the life we really want to live? The solution is firstly in awareness of trauma’s effects on us mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Secondly in connection and support Thirdly in mastering your stress physiology. Fourthly in healing and changing our energy And lastly in building our skills and ability to manage ourselves. As a trauma survivor, I would say one of the hardest things to do is stay connected to people, it’s quite common to pull away and become invisible, but this only reinforces the feelings of not being good enough to be connected to others, to be accepted and also loved. But the desire to connect never leaves you, it only gets stronger with time and the lack of it becomes more and more noticeable and painful. So, connections are a good place to start. Take small steps to create connections with others who have similar interests, this will give you something to talk about and make you feel less self-conscious. As time goes on you will notice life becomes a little less painful and happiness starts to filter in. If any of the week’s article has resonated with you and you would like to explore your trauma and challenges in life. Breakfast is one of the most important meals, it gets your digestive system moving and gives you fuel to keep warm and do what needs to be done.

I can happily go from 8 am until 2 pm on my hearty porridge without snacking and so a healthy breakfast is also a great way to ensure you don't pile on the pounds looking for sugary treats to keep you going and boost your blood levels. SUZUKI JIMNY STILL ALIVE (JUST) Following speculation through some mainstream media outlets about the future of the Suzuki Jimny in Europe, Suzuki Iberian wants to confirm that this model will continue to be sold in Spain in 2020, albeit a very limited number of units; and that new orders will not be accepted until further notice. At its launch at the end of 2018, Suzuki had already announced that the high CO2 emissions of this model could negatively affect the average emissions of the entire range of Suzuki models in Europe from 2020. This emission objective is set with the average of all cars sold in Europe, in accordance with EU legislation.

In association with

customers who had already reserved them.

Suzuki continues to strive to reduce CO2 emissions and further improve the fuel consumption of its cars, the following developments include the introduction of the self-rechargeable 48V hybrid technology, which will equip the Swift Sport, Vitara and S-Cross models. Suzuki was already a pioneer in the introduction of 12V hybrid technology in 2016, which is already available as standard equipment in all versions of the Ignis and will be available in all Swift as of s p r i n g this year.”

BELT UP!

We have come to the end of another month in our trip through the motoring archives, but before we speed headlong into February, buckle up as we go back to yesterday once more. It was on 30 January 2003, twenty years after the introduction of compulsory front seat belt wearing in the United Kingdom, that the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) published their Seat Belts Factsheet. The factsheet stated, "Seat belts are a proven way of reducing the severity of injuries. The government has estimated that since seat belt wearing was made compulsory in 1983 it has reduced casualties by at least 370 deaths and 7,000 serious injuries per year for front seat belts and 70 deaths and 1000 serious injuries for rear seat belts."

In 2005, a 13-year-old girl became the youngest person in the UK to be brought before the courts on drink driving charges. The girl who was 12 at the time of the offence, had drunk two bottles of beer and a vodka drink as well as sneaking sips from other people's glasses on Christmas Day before setting out on a 35-mile drive in her father´s car to visit a relative. It was on 1 February 1952 that British Postmaster-General, Lord De La Warr and Assistant PostmasterGeneral, Mr Gammans were present at the display launch of the first unit. 31st January 2020 A MESSAGE FROM BRITISH CONSUL SARAHJANE MORRIS TO UK NATIONALS IN SPAIN

The Withdrawal Agreement which sets out how the UK leaves the EU has now passed into UK law, which, once the European Parliament has ratified it this week, means that the UK is leaving the EU with a deal on 31 January.

This is very positive news for UK nationals who are resident in Spain, as the Withdrawal Agreement contains some really important protections for your rights:

Your UK state pension will continue to be uprated

You will be able to exchange your driving licence until the end of 2020 without taking a driving test and your Spanish licence will be accepted in the UK when you visit

You will be able to continue to live and work in Spain

UK state pensioners will continue to have lifelong healthcare as long as they remain living in Spain. This also applies to residents who claim a UK state pension in the future

Those rights will be protected for as long as you live in Spain, provided you are legally resident here by the end of 2020.

The Withdrawal Agreement also provides an Transition Period (from 31 January until 31 December) during which time nothing will change for UK Nationals in Spain. Sarah-Jane Morris said: “The approval of the Withdrawal Agreement is a very important step for UK nationals living here. It provides reassurance

on key rights, such as being able to continue to live and work here, and for pensioners to have lifelong healthcare and uprated pensions. Alongside those rights, you have obligations – the main one being to make sure you are registered with a green residency certificate. This remains a valid document after 31 January and we will communicate any details on future residency processes once we have them. For further information visit the Living in Spain Guide on gov.uk”.

UTD WIN AT THE ETIHAD BUT CITY GO THROUGH TO JOIN VILLA IN THE CARABAO CUP FINAL Man City have secured their place in Carabao Cup final despite falling to a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United in their semi-final second leg on Wednesday night at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola's side possessed a 3-1 lead from the first encounter three weeks ago and held on to win 3-2 on aggregate despite losing on the night to Nemanja Matic's brilliant first-half strike for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side. City tried to respond after going behind - and De Gea, who had brilliantly denied Sergio Aguero and Riyad Mahrez in the opening minutes, was finally beaten when Raheem Sterling turned in Kevin de Bruyne's cross, but the flag was already up for offside. Sterling is still goalless for 2020 and will be

looking to change that at the weekend. Wherever in the city, Bruno Fernandes was watching this on television, Manchester United's incoming signing could have been forgiven for wondering if all the talk of his prospective new clubs demise had been greatly exaggerated. On the night at least, though, Solskjaer may wonder what might have been had he been able to call upon Marcus Rashford upfront, not to mention Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba. City boss Pep Guardiola was frustrated at his side not being more clinical on the night and spoke to the worlds media about it at full time. "Over 180 minutes we were better than United," said Guardiola. "We created chances to score a lot of goals

and didn't convert. We need to learn to be more clinical. "We played a side with incredible physicality. The goal was from a set-piece. The first time they shot on target. In both games, we were better." In a dramatic night of football on Wednesday, Aston Villa beat Leicester 2-1 (3-2 on aggregate) in other the Carabao Cup semifinal to book their place alongside City in the final on March 3rd Villa took the lead early on with leftback Matt Targett after 12 minutes. Villa were pressed soon after taking the lead and ended up finding themselves holding their hosts at bay for large parts

of the game. Leicester hit Villa with flair and pace and got their reward with Ihneacho's equaliser after 72 minutes. They then continued to press and gave the hosts everything they had but just couldn't make their dominance count. Aston Villa's Trezeguet scored a dramatic late winner to beat Leicester City 2-1 at Villa Park on Tuesday to reach the finals of the Carabao Cup with a 3-2 aggregate win.

MONTE BACK TO WINNING WAYS TEAM:- 1 Nikolay, 2 Morante, 3 Fernando, 5 Manu, 6 Adrian, 9 Manu Sanchez, 10Alfredo, 14 Pamies, 18 Damien, 22 Gonzalo, 24 Andres. SUBs:- 7 Lucas, 12 Diego, 19 Luis, 21 Dario, 23 Maccan.

The fourth came when a pinpoint pass from the quicksilver ADRIAN (6) picked out GONZALO (22), for his second and his 19th of the season. The half ended with Monte sitting pretty in the driving seat, leading 4-0.

After last weeks totally forgettable non-event, it was nice to get back to some decent, proper football with the visit to the Cauldron of lowly Crevillente.

HT: CD Montesinos 4 0 Atletic Crevillente

The corresponding fixture last year saw the Reds romp home 5-0 and the gathered faithful were hoping for a similar outcome to keep up Monte's promotion push. Any Crevillente game plan was immediately consigned to the bin within 60 seconds of the start when Monte flew out of the blocks and PAMIES (14) caught their keeper napping and chipped one in from an acute angle at the edge of the box. Nerves settled, Monte steadily turned up the heat. Wave after wave of probing attacks, particularly down the flanks, rocked an already shaky and dazed defence, Crevillente simply had no answer to the onslaught. Further goals came when the excellent Pamies (14) turned provider for GONZALO (22) to nod home, then MANU SANCHEZ (9) took advantage of a defensive mix-up to poke in.

The sweeping Red tide didn't cease in the second period and despite substitutions and a reshuffle, Crevillente's flaky defending continued. Their midfield tried manfully to cobble together some coherent attacking play, but it was all a bit lightweight compared to Monte's swagger and bullish intent. The die was cast early doors when MANU SANCHEZ (9) slotted home a cheaply conceded penalty. Further goals from LUCAS (7) (MACCAN (23) with the assist) and an easy tap in at the back post for MORANTE (2) from a whipped corner. The goal feast finished with MANU SANCHEZ (9), whose sublime chip shot gave him his hat-trick and also his 12th of the campaign. All in all, a very good day at the coalface and another 3 points in the bag. FT: CD Montesinos 8 0 Atletic Crevillente As a contest this game was over,

without being harsh, before half time. However, a great deal of credit for making this such an enjoyable spectacle should go to Crevillente and also, it has to be said, the referee. Monte's opponents, despite being almost permanently under the cosh, never gave in or allowed their heads to drop, they continued to harry and chase right up to the final blast. I honestly and genuinely salute them for their contribution to the match. The referee (unlike some of his colleagues this season) actually helped the flow and tempo of the game. He gave clear, firm decisions and his positioning was superb throughout. Well done to both. Always a pleasure to watch football when it's played in the correct spirit. Man of the Match, selected by Steve and Tony was MORANTE. Match report by Official Chief Sports Correspondent Steve Robinson. Photo's by David Winder. MATCH 19............. On Sunday 2nd February 2020, CD Montesinos are away, to play Bigastro C.F. Kick-off is 5.30pm. Travelling supporters to meet at Bar Tambalache at 4.30pm.

Both Dave and Mick were part of the record-holding team for this event back in 2014 when 96 points were scored! It was obviously Mick’s week as he was the only player to achieve a ‘2’ in Wednesday’s Stableford. Some good scoring on the day with even 5th place (Lindsay Forbes) getting 37

points. Today’s winner (and now playing back off the yellow tees) was John Shervell with an excellent 41 points. Por ultimo, in the words of Lee Trevino, ‘Real pressure in golf is playing for 10 dollars when you only have five in your pocket’.

STRAIGHT-SETS WIN GIVES DJOKOVIC 8TH AUSTRALIAN FINAL Novak Djokovic survived an early attacking assault from Roger Federer to move into the Australian Open final and onto the cusp of a 17th Grand Slam title. The legendary pair met for the 50th time on Thursday, and this time it was Djokovic who came out victorious, securing his spot in the Australian Open final for the eighth time in his career with a 7-6(1), 6-4, 6-3 win. It definitely could have gone a different way, because he started really well and I was pretty nervous in the beginning, said Djokovic. Respect to Roger for coming out tonight. He was obviously hurt. He wasn't even close to his best in terms of movement, and respect

for coming out and trying his best throughout. Despite facing a hostile crowd on the Rod Laver Arena, the 32-year-old Serb showed again just how difficult he is to beat at a venue where he has already won the championship seven times. A brilliant start from Federer saw him on the cusp of going 5-1 up in the opener after serving eight quickfire aces, but he could not sustain it and ended up going down 7-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 18 minutes. Earlier in the day, there had been doubt as to whether Federer would even take to the court because of the groin injury that troubled him in his five-set win over Tennys Sandgren in Tuesday's amazing quarter-final. The strain of the Sandgren encounter in which he saved seven match points and his gruelling win over Australia's John Millman in the third round appeared to have taken its toll and it was visible to many that when

stretching onto his forehand side he looked felt uncomfortable throughout the match. That doesn't take anything anyway from the simply ruthless and world-class Djokovic performance in this Semi-Final encounter. The Serbian number one and World number two will be confident of again lifting the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup when he faces either Dominic Thiem or Alexander Zverev in the tournament decider on Sunday night. Federer, who has six Australian Open wins among his record 20 major titles, deserves credit for the fight he put up against the world number two in light of his physical ailments that required treatment at the end of the first set. It remains to be seen how many more Australian Open tournaments that Federer will compete in but the Swiss superstar showed the world once again that he still has the game to challenge for slams at the age of 38.

played against each other, a close one in London. He played a terrific match against Rafa last night. I watched that. Definitely one of the best players in the world. Deserves to be where he is, said Djokovic. Alex didn't start the year very well. I watched his matches. I practised with him in Brisbane during ATP Court. He wasn't feeling his best on the court, not much confidence. It's impressive with the way he has been playing so far in this tournament, building his game, raising the level of tennis that he's been playing. It's his first semifinals of Grand Slam in his career, so I'm sure that he is motivated, he's pumped to get at least a step further. It's going to be really a good match to watch.

Djokovic spoke to the worlds media on Thursday about his possible opponents and said Dominic won our last match we
