COUNCILS UNITE TO DEMAND FLOOD ACTION Local government leaders from across the Vega Baja have come together to unite in a call for action to prevent flooding such as that caused by the DANA in September. The mayors from numerous town councils are demanding “Fast and urgent solutions and actions at the mouth of the Rio Segura to avoid flood situations” as the mayors of Guardamar, José Luis Sáez; of San Fulgencio, José Sampere; Dolores, Joaquín Hernández, and Rafal, Manuel Pineda, who along with the deputy mayor of Daya Nueva, Pablo Girona, have spoken first-hand of the state of abandonment of the old Segura riverbed, practically without draft due to the accumulated sludge for more than 30 years, and the vegetation that covers the entire stretch of about 1.5 kilometres. “This is of great importance as if the channel had been in a clear and decent state then the flood water would have been able to pass freely and quickly and drastically reduced the damage to

populations and farmland,” said José Luis Sáez. The mayors gathered in Guardamar where they also visited the collection system where solid waste floats and is retained and prevents it from reaching the sea. Immediate actions were also demanded on the N-332 to prevent it from acting as a dam in the event of flooding, as was the case in September. Plans are already being drafted to deal with the problems experienced after the DANA last September, but with the spring

rainy season also not far away, as well as the global problem of climate change, the council leaders are urging faster action to avoid a repetition. “The Mediterranean is the zero zone of climate change, we have to redouble our efforts towards a new approach in regions such as Vega Baja, so that we adapt to the new climatic circumstances and manage to prevent new catastrophes such as last September,” said declared Pineda, who recalled that this area is the orchard of Europe and we must safeguard its full potential.

Use the Toilet Wisely

It might seem like an unnecessary need to tell people how to use the toilet, but that is precisely what the water management company Hidraqua is doing in a campaign launched this week at the Bigastro weekly market.

items that should not be disposed of this way on account of the problems they create for the sewage system. The campaign, “Responsible use of the toilet”, highlighted certain items which should never be disposed off down the loo, including a display which featured wet wipes, sanitary towels and domestic oil, the three main problematic products

The problem they want to highlight however is not about the items which should make their way into the toilet, but rather to raise awareness of Continued on page 2 Visit the Sunshine News website for the latest news, information & what’s on guide

SAILING COMES TO ORIHUELA

Orihuela’s councillor for Sports, Víctor Bernabéu, has announced that for the second time, Orihuela will play host to a sailing competition, the National Championship Laser 4.7.

the councillor was joined by the sailing vowel and the manager of the board of directors of the Yacht Club of Campoamor, José Antonio Tomás and Miguel Jiménez, respectively.

Child Friendly Hospital

In this sense, the event is of “great economic impact” to the areas, “brings together so many people to give voice to the Oriolan coast nationwide”, Bernabéu explained. The Laser 4.7 boat will be the protagonist of this competition. It is a light boat of 4.23 metres in length and with a single mast, managed by a single young sailor who will compete for recognition and acceptance into the national team. There will be 12 tests of which 2 must be completed to advance and where 3 gold, silver or bronze medals will be awarded to the winners.

The event will take place from February 19 to 23 on the Orihuela Costa, and is an important event in the national calendar as the championship is one of two events which serve as selection competitions for sailers to represent the country in international competitions. During the announcement this week,

Campoamor is the bay which will host this sports tournament, which will bring together 120 sailors aged up to 18 and whose teams will be accompanied by 25 coaches, a team of 12 international judges as well as a technical staff and volunteers who will control the competition which is expected to attract about 500 visitors.

Bernábeu has invited everyone to attend this important event and has stated that the main objective of the department of sports is “to promote minority sports and work for sports tourism, a reality for our city since it has great potential."

Torrevieja hospital is set to become more child friendly. Ribera salud have recently received requests for the ‘Excellent health’ citizen platform regarding changes that need to be made in the Pediatric department of Torrevieja hospital. The university hospital will be meeting with the citizen platform in a bid to make the department more child friendly and relaxed, something that is seen as important especially when children are being admitted to hospital in traumatic circumstances.

A7 Accident Two people were admitted to Vega Baja hospital this week after their car collided with a trailer on the A7 motorway close to junction 551. A male aged 35 and a minor of 13 years were attended to by a Basic Life support team and a SAMU vehicle at the time of the accident which left a 5km tail back.

Orihuela Costa has been identified as requiring a share of the funds with work including the removal of rubble at Cabo Roig, and the repair of the masonry wall and steps. Pilar de la Horadada will also see repairs to the beaches and coves.

Foggy Flying Days A foggy start to Sunday led to a total of 15 flights having to be diverted at Valencia and Alicante airports, according to the airport operator Aena. Specifically, there were 10 flights affected at Alicante-Elche Airport and 5 At Valencia until the fog started to clear a little after noon on Sunday. The reason for the diversions was given as low visibility caused by the fog which engulfed several areas of the Valencian Community

on Sunday morning. It has become a standard warning to air passengers over recent months to check with their airlines before travelling as the latest in a string of disruptions

to flights caused misery to those flying, with strikes, fire and many other reasons causing delays and diversions in recent months, as the airport operator stresses that their number one priority is safety.

SIZE REALLY MATTER?

By Sam Kelly DipPFS, BA (Hons), Managing Partner, Chorus Financial. I always find it interesting how whilst I’ve spent the last 5 or so years writing articles about how to ensure value, honesty, transparency and quality for your pensions and investments, the main focus of other firms here in Spain seems to be their size and how long they’ve been around. Of course, I agree that longevity is important, and myself and Senior Partner Tracy Storer have accumulated around 13 years in Spain, and well over 20 in the industry between us. In fact, from an advisor perspective, we’re amongst the longest-serving here in Spain. Surprisingly, the vast majority of financial advisors barely last a year in Spain. Much of this is down to the fact that they have been recruited based on sales experience, or perhaps a couple of years working behind the counter in a bank, and often lack any form of qualification or investment advice experience. So, a company that’s been around for 20 years may have seen hundreds of IFAs come and go during that period. Moving on to size. The vast majority of UK IFAs work from small, independent

to think that a firm tied to one or two fund houses have the best performing, most appropriate solutions from the hundreds available in the open market.

offices, with perhaps 2-3 advisors in the company. Those advisors provide high quality, independent advice, and have access to the largest, and most successful investment companies in the world. They are generally not tied to any one provider, and can therefore act in their client’s best interests, and maintain independence at all times. What we see from the larger firms in Spain is quite the opposite. We see ‘special’ relationships in place with selected fund managers who financially incentivise these firms to recommend their funds. What this means in real terms is that the IFA is not going to

the open market to select the best investment funds for you. More often, their head offices are dictating where they should invest client funds, and these decisions can be more focussed on the financial benefit of the firm, rather than the client. What we should see is a symbiotic relationship. This is one where you agree a transparent form of renumeration for your advisor, and your advisor uses their experience (and qualification) to find the best solution for your needs from an open marketplace. Logically this is the ONLY way to ensure quality, as statistically it is almost impossible

Chorus clients benefit from access to leading fund managers, including Royal London, Prudential, Vanguard, Rathbones, HSBC, Fundsmith, Schroders and more, with an honest and transparent fee arrangement. We would generally see between 12-16 different investment funds in a typical portfolio, ensuring appropriate diversification. Ironically this means that the ‘smaller’ firm arguably provides the ‘larger’, and more robust solution. Financial services are all too often ruled by slick marketing over decent honest advice, and Spain is particularly notorious for this. Always get a second opinion before making a decision that could affect your financial wellbeing for the rest of your life. If you want to discuss any new or existing arrangement, without pressure or obligation, please contact me on 664 398 702 or s.kelly@chorusfinancial.es.

Adoption

Abandoned Puppies Last week six puppies, around 4 days old, were found on the campo, without a mum, covered in mud and crying.

Name: Willow

Luckily a lady walking her dogs heard their cries, took them home, cleaned them up and contacted Finca la Castellana. Maybe because of the trauma they had endured at such a young age, they have not been feeding well and it’s been a struggle for our experienced puppy fosterer Beccie to get the babies to feed.

Willow was born on the streets and was rescued in August by Happy Pets just weeks before we gave birth. She raised her kittens in the safety of a home for the first time in her life and she got all the care and attention she needed. Willow is now spayed, fully vaccinated and finally ready to find a loving home. If you are interested in adopting Willow, please contact happypetsrescue@hotmail.com

But things are looking up and we feel hopeful that all six will progress and grow as they all should. Puppies are very costly, from the puppy milk formula to puppy pads, cotton wool pads for endless cleaning which the mother would normally do, to the extra electric for the heat lamp to keep them warm. If you would like to donate towards their care, please visit our website www. fincalacastellana.org or our Facebook page. La Rosa Nova cafe/restaurant at Flamenca Beach have very kindly donated two daytime menus (two-course lunch) for us to raffle and raise money for the puppies. €5 per strip (five chances to win), you can purchase the tickets through our Facebook page or call Beccie on 603 251 004.

Age: 2 Years old

Success Story This is Zeppelin who arrived at the shelter early in November. He was a lovely, friendly dog and very popular with the volunteers. The Shelter had been looking for him to be adopted. However, by coincidence, a woman and her family came in at the end of last month looking to adopt a dog and then, saw Zeppelin and said: “That’s my dog”. A burglar had broken into their home and stole EVERYTHING two months prior. During the break in the dog also disappeared, so they assumed the burglar had killed him. After a huge depression (losing everything, dog killed, and also her husband passing the previous year), they decided to adopt. And there he was: Zak (AKA Zeppelin). Their dog. Alive and well. There weren’t enough tissues that day at the shelter. For further information contact our Facebook page - concejalía de protección animal de torrevieja or by e-mail - alberguecats@gmail.com

Processionary caterpillars are around at the start of spring and put dogs and other mammals at high risk. These caterpillars can be deadly for our dogs so be aware! Processionary caterpillars measure between three and four centimetres in length and can be dangerous for young children and our pets who may be curious to touch them, and to dogs who may lick or ingest them. The caterpillars come out of the pine trees in Spring and form long snake-like lines as they travel to their next spot in search of food and a place to continue growing. They are not only spotted next to pine trees, but they

can also be seen in villages and on roadsides, so watch out. The caterpillars have poisonous and irritant hairs on their bodies which can cause instant irritation for both humans and animals. Dogs and cats can be attracted to the caterpillars and may try to ingest them, the results can be fatal. Just one caterpillar can be enough to kill a small dog or a cat and generally causes necrosis of the tongue. The initial symptoms to watch out for in pets include vomiting and swelling of the tongue. If you suspect that your pet has come into contact with a processionary caterpillar take them to a veterinary clinic or hospital immediately. The sooner we seek veterinary help, the more chance our pet has of survival. Sadly every year veterinary professionals are faced with many of these cases, and not all pets can be saved, so it is important to keep well away from these deadly creatures.

The barbed hairs of the caterpillar larvae cause harmful reactions in humans and other mammals. The species is notable for the behaviour of its caterpillars, which overwinter in tent-like nests high in pine trees, and which proceed through the woods in nose-to-tail columns, protected by their severely irritating hairs. When these caterpillars complete metamorphosis and become moths, they do not cause us any harm. It is only during the development as a caterpillar that you need to be cautious.

IN MEMORY OF CAROLINE This week’s shocking news of the suicide of T.V presenter Caroline Flack sent the British public into outrage once again at the abused power of the media. In a world where we profess to be progressing, I rather believe we are digressing. Yes, we have improved technology and there may be more cures for certain types of cancer, but we seem to be growing ever distant from being able to share this earth with our fellow man.

in society today there are a lot of people who have suffered from the corrupt governments’ decisions and at the hands of others. Many who enjoy seeing others suffer, so they themselves don’t feel alone in their pain. But we are not supposed to be living this way. The only way we can be happy is by giving happiness to others. By being kind and caring, by giving without desire for anything to be returned, whether it be a compliment, a meal or a euro. We must learn to defend and

The society we live in dictates we should see each other as competition, the media highlights this every second of every day through the T.V, magazines, social media platforms and billboards, so in order to reduce the pressure to look a certain way, act a certain way and not believe we should be perfect is to stay away from it as much as possible.

As human beings we are wired to love, nurture and protect, only when we have suffered pain or fear do we choose negative emotions such as jealousy, hatred and anger. And sadly

only concerned with our own needs, we become disconnected from the world and from ourselves. We lose our ability to be vulnerable and to show compassion and empathy. In awareness, we should have the courage to step away from selfish and fear and embrace ourselves as the unique individuals we are. How can we ever be the same as anyone else? We can’t. Yet the media and society say, if we do not fit into the mould we aren’t good enough. But good enough for whom? For the whole population of the world? That would be a truly impossible task to achieve. So why are we trying? Why are we judging?

Not wanting to be depressing, I want to shed some light on what I believe we can do as individuals to collectively lower suicide numbers and increase our self-esteem and confidence.

When we repeatedly study something whether it be a programme on T.V or a subject we program our brains to see things a certain way, positively or negatively. We believe the programming regardless of whether it is aligned with our values and morals. We accept it as being the truth.

I love tomatoes. Whether they are beef, cherry, pear or on the vine. They are such a versatile vegetable and even though some say they are a fruit, it really doesn’t make any difference. Tomatoes can be found in abundance here in Spain and used for many different things. Salad is there most common use, and the Spanish really do have a passion for it. As we are still in winter, I thought I would rustle up some tasty recipes that would help keep you warm and add some variety to your mealtimes.

Chickpeas, Chorizo, Tomato & Yoghurt

Ingredients • 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil • 3 tbsp olive oil, plus more for drizzling • 1 onion, chopped • 4 ounces cured Spanish chorizo, chopped • Salt and black pepper • 1 small can chickpeas, drained • 1–3 tbsp harissa paste • 1 can whole peeled tomatoes • ½ cup whole yoghurt • 2 tbsp oregano leaves • Toasted pita Method

Heat 3 Tbsp of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onion and chorizo, stir until onion is soft, 7 minutes, then season with salt. Now add chickpeas and cook about 5 minutes. Stir in a little harissa and cook, stirring continuously, until the paste starts to stick to the bottom of the pan. Add tomatoes, stirring and scraping up browned bits from the bottom of the pan. SImmer and cook, until mixture is thick, 10–15 minutes. Stir throughout and season.Serve in a dish add yoghurt, oregano, and pepper, drizzle with oil and Serve with pita bread.

Stuffed Cheesy Tomatoes

Ingredients • 4 beef tomatoes • 1 tbsp olive oil • 1 shallot, minced • 1 Garlic clove, minced • 1/2 lb of chorizo • 1/4 cup of chopped basil • 3/4 cup of bread crumbs • 3 oz. feta cheese, cubed • 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan • Salt and pepper Method

Cup the top off each tomato and gently core and scrape out the inside, remove the core. Put 1 tbsp of olive oil in a warm pan and cook through the shallot, garlic and chopped chorizo, until soft. Mix the tomato and breadcrumbs together and add the chopped basil. Now add both cheeses to the mix and stir gently. Add this to the chorizo mix and fill each tomato until full. Add the top part of the tomato and bake in the oven on a medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes before serving.

MAGNESIUM Having a balanced diet is vital in that we need nutrition to have energy. But the vitamins and minerals we get from different food sources are essential in supporting our complete bodily functions. There seems to be a lack of education and documentation regarding what we get from our foods and also unawareness of how we should be getting it. So with this in mind, I wanted to help you gain some knowledge of Magnesium. A mineral that has risen in its status as far as our bodies' dependency on it. There have also been some interesting discoveries made recently regarding its value and how a lack of it can cause an impact on our health.

surprising considering we have such a variety of foods available to us. But at the same time, there is more obesity in these areas too, which leads us to believe that the rise in junk food being consumed, means that we are becoming more and more deficient in what we need, for our bodies to function properly. Magnesium, for example, is found in Dark cabbage and other green, leafed vegetables and cocoa. it is also found in nuts, seeds, and legumes and also in lesser quantities, in meat and fish. Now you can ask yourself, 'How much of these foods do you consume, frequently?'

Hypermagnesemia (Magnesium deficiency) often goes unnoticed until it has reached a peak, it has been linked to Asthma sufferers, cramps, nausea, tiredness and weakness and also in mental health issues.

Besides being aware of your diet, you can have your blood checked by the doctor to see if you have any deficiencies that may be causing an underlying issue, or threatening your long term health. And due to the body being highly dependant on Magnesium for its function, it’s well worth doing.

Magnesium deficiency is high in America and western Europe which is

A lack of Magnesium has been linked to diabetes, Alzheimer's and also

heart disease. Some of the most common killers and so taking a supplement is a great way to reduce your chances of illness and also to support your body and diet. Recent studies have shown that those suffering from type 2 diabetes, had a good chance of reducing their blood sugar levels and increasing their insulin levels when they took Magnesium supplements. Also, those with high blood pressure have seen significant improvement and lower levels by taking additional amounts of the nutrient. Mood regulation which directly affects those who struggle with depression may also experience more balance in their moods, and there have even been trial tests to compare anti-depressants against Magnesium and the findings indicate that with some specific drugs used to treat depression, that mineral is more effective.

If you suffer from migraines, you may also be interested to know that trials of using Magnesium in addition to diet have proven to reduce them. And in some cases up to 42%. Also due to levels of blood pressure and blood sugar reducing with a higher intake of Magnesium, it’s no surprise to know that the risk heart disease can also be lowered. As with all supplements and before changing any diet, it is recommended that you consult a doctor and also in some cases a specialist like a dietician. Health food shops are also generally knowledgable about the products and can advise you of the best brands, that have been tested for their quality. Also to discuss what is needed and dosage. APEX AT GENEVA

Sunshine News • Friday 21st February 2020

First Glimpse of the NEW VW Golf GTD

APEX, the global sports car brand, will preview its new electric vehicle concept, codenamed AP-0, at the Geneva International Motor Show 2020.

Volkswagen will celebrate the world première of the Golf GTD at the Geneva International Motor Show from 5 to 15 March. Among the technical highlights is the most powerful and thanks to twin dosing cleanest turbo diesel injection (TDI) engine ever to be installed in a Golf. It harmonises the confident dynamism of the Golf GTD together with higher efficiency and lowest emissions. The charismatic design of the Golf GTD reflects a unique combination of dynamism and selfconfidence.

Designed, engineered and built in the UK, the APEX AP-0 is the product of a highly experienced and accomplished engineering team, led by Guy Colborne. Featuring a cutting-edge pure carbon fibre chassis, the AP-0 boasts a kerb weight of just 1,200 kg – an outstanding achievement for a battery-electric vehicle. The lightweight design of the AP-0 fuses the finest artistry with expert craftsmanship, not only affording it rapid acceleration, but also superior agility, outstanding handling and exceptional cornering ability. The APEX AP-0 will be unveiled during the brand’s press conference, taking place at the Geneva International Motor Show on 3 March 2020 at 12:45 CET on stand 2047. Personal interviews with the leadership team are available on request.

with a fully electric sports car, codenamed AP-0.

Skilfully blending artistry, expert knowledge and cutting-edge technology, APEX crafts sports cars that offer the ultimate, unrivalled driving experience. Following the launch of the high-performance AP-1 in 2019, the APEX portfolio is set to expand

With core specialisms in high performance automotive and Formula 1 race car engineering, vehicle dynamics and systems, advanced composites technology, vehicle design and styling, the team at APEX is at the cutting edge of automotive design.

The diesel top-ofthe-range version, based on the new eighth generation of the Golf, will carry the long tradition of the GTD into the future. In 1982, Volkswagen presented the very first Golf GTD. At that time, Volkswagen brought new excitement into the compact class with its turbo diesel and other equally sporty features, like in the Golf GTI Mk1. And almost four decades later, this same dynamic concept is still going strong: Once again, Volkswagen will introduce one of

the most economical and at the same time sporty compact models to the market with its Golf GTD. A significant increase in performance is accompanied by lowest emissions: The Performance TDI’s efficiency has been significantly optimised and CO2 emissions have been cut even further, all while simultaneously improving responsiveness.

Thanks to a new twin dosing SCR with double AdBlue® injection, NOx emissions will be greatly reduced as compared to its predecessor. This makes the TDI in the new Golf GTD one of the cleanest combustion engines in the world. And by the way, the four-cylinder powerhouse is started by pressing a pulsing button in the completely digitalised cockpit to the beat of a new era.

IS IT A BIRD? Just a quick trip back to yesterday before we look at today´s history, and first a little nibble of interest as on 20 February 1921, 99 years ago, French car manufacturer Citroën created a series of enamel road signs to help drivers find their way around the French road network.

car was completed, at least the first intentional car/airplane cross. The Arrowbile was designed by Waldo Dean Waterman and built by the Westerman Arrowplane Corporation of Santa Monica, California. When on the road, the wings and propeller could be quickly detached whilst the driver/pilot used the steering wheel in the twoseat cabin to control the vehicle both on land and in the air.

French Road Signs We have mentioned electric cars numerous times in our bid to show how today could have been very different if it wasn´t for the dominance of the internal combustion engine, but it´s not only electricity that was setting the tone in the last century. How about a flying car!

Shortly after opening the eastbound services were described by architects as "disastrous, cramped and desolate". The larger westbound services fared better, only being called "harsh". Not

Pursang originally launched a motocross motorcycle in 1967 and manufactured up until 1984. Now the brand is being brought back with a modern twist - allelectric motorcycles. Pursang's founder, Jim PalauRibes explained: "From the beginning of the project we have been committed to maintaining the essence of the golden age of Spanish motorcycles and similar dynamic qualities, improved by current technology. We have delved into the aesthetics and the essence of the motorcycles

We will finish this week in 1993 and here in Spain, as on 22 February 1993, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I officially opened SEAT’s Martorell plant. Martorell became one of the most modern car production facilities in Europe.

Spanish Electric Motorcycle Maker Pursang Begins Production Spanish motorcycle brand Pursang is about to be resurrected with a brand new line-up of electric motorcycles.

In 1994, Honda sold its 20% stake of the Rover Group, allowing BMW to take full control. This marked the end of the 13-year venture between the two carmakers, although the Honda-based Rover 400 still went into production the following year, the seventh and final product of the venture. The E-Street model is slightly less powerful with an 8kW motor providing a range of 100km and a top speed of 100 km/h. The bikes will be available in March this year and retail prices are set to be €13,700 for the E-Track and €8,700.

Alert for Seat Airbag An alert has been issued warning of a risk of injury due to a front passenger airbag failure on the Seat Exeo 3R (models from 2009 to 2013). The consumer department of the Spanish Government warns that vehicles with a front airbag from the manufacturer Takata have presented a problem due to the possibility of the deterioration of the propellant due to high air humidity and temperature changes. As a consequence, in the event that the front passenger airbag is activated, small fragments of the generator housing can come off, which could injure the vehicle occupants. The manufacturer has notified the owners of the vehicles registered on their database but if you have on of the affected vehicles you should contact your local dealer for an inspection and remedial action.

On the planet Scarif, she and the freedom fighters, including a blind warrior and a deadpan droid, attempt to steal plans for the Death Star, a battle station capable of destroying entire worlds, which was designed by her father on behalf of the Empire. However, the Rebels face tough competition from Imperial warlord Orson Krennic and shadowy forces, including Darth Vader, who will come to play a major part in the rise of the Empire. Star Wars prequel set before the events of A New Hope, starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn.

Hunted Ordinary people go on the run. Where do they hide? Who can they trust? What would YOU do if you were pursued by an elite group of hunters. This episode features childhood sweethearts Jess and Ella and they are running scared in rural Yorkshire as the Hunters prowl the country lanes in hot pursuit, while businesswoman Toni moves further north unaware her every move is being tracked. Best friends Ben and Rob try to get one step ahead by communicating with friends via Xbox but one crucial error may cost them dear.

The British Consulate

CONSULAR TEAM HOLDS OUTREACH EVENTS IN ALICANTE On 17 and 18 March, the British Consulate in Alicante is holding four separate outreach events to update UK nationals in Alicante and Murcia on what the UK's departure from the EU means for them. Members of the consular and Embassy team will explain the citizens' rights protections included in the Withdrawal Agreement and advise on any action you need to take during the transition period (to 31 December 2020). There will also be a Q&A section for you to ask questions on issues including residency, pensions and healthcare. British Consul Sarah-Jane Morris said: The approval of the Withdrawal Agreement is a very important step for UK nationals living here. It provides reassurance on key rights, such as being able to continue to live and

work here, and for pensioners to have lifelong healthcare and uprated pensions. We will provide an update on the latest residency processes at

our March events, but meanwhile, be assured that if you already have the green registration certificate (A4 or credit card-sized) this will remain a valid residency document even after the transition period ends on 31 December this year. Babies

I, Tonya

Babies is a 12 part documentary series that follows 15 international families over the first full year of their new baby’s life. The series examines the epic journey every person embarks on, from the first bond a baby shares with its parents, to learning to feed, sleep through the night, crawl across the room, speak their first words, and discover the world around them—right up to those first steps of toddlerhood.

I, Tonya tells the thrilling true story of American figure skater Tonya Harding, whose talent was overshadowed by her association with an attack on rival athlete Nancy Kerrigan. This biopic pokes fun at the conflicting accounts given by the people involved, while showcasing superb performances from Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie and Allison Janney.

FEDERER & MURRAY EYEING GRASS-COURT COMEBACKS Roger Federer has announced his withdrawal from a number of tournaments, including the French Open, after surgery on his right knee. The 38-year-old underwent arthroscopic surgery in Switzerland on Wednesday.

Roland Garros, which begins on May 24

As a result, the 20-time Grand Slam winner confirmed he will miss ATP events in Dubai later this month, Indian Wells, Bogota and Miami in March, as well as the French Open at

Federer, who won his solitary Roland Garros title in 2009 has now missed four out of the last five French Open tournaments and his main focus will now be to compete in the grasscourt season leading up to Wimbledon.

Federer, who won his only Roland Garros title in 2009, said doctors were "very confident of a full recovery". "After the procedure, the doctors confirmed it was the right thing to have done," the 38-year-old said.

Federer had earlier skipped the entire clay-court season in 2017 and 2018. That was in view to keep up with fitness and giving his body a rest. Last year, he played only two tournaments on the

surface before arriving in Paris for the French Open so it's not an unusual situation for the Swiss tennis icon to be in.

In other tennis news, Boris Becker has backed Andy Murray to return from his latest injury nightmare and reclaim his place at the top of his sport. The Scot faces a fresh fight for fitness after being ruled out since November with a pelvic problem, but Becker believes he can achieve what few other players could manage. Becker said: 'Most players would have retired after a serious hip injury like that. If you'd asked me last year, I didn't

ON TOP OF THE WORLD TEAM:- 13 Carlos, 5 Manu, 6 Adrian, 7 Lucas, 23 German, 9 Manuel Sanchez, 14 Pamies, 8 Luis, 20 Damien, 22 Gonzalo, 24 Andres. SUBs:- 21 Dario, 19 Cristian, 2 Alejandro, 1 Nikolay, 15 Mario. Well, top of the league, at least. Runaway leaders CD Montesinos eventually triumphed, with a sterling second-half display, against tricky opposition at a hastily re-arranged game at San Fulgencio on Saturday evening. Knowing a win would put them temporarily 11 points clear of the pack, the 'away' team set about unpicking a well organised and stout defence. Dolores, as previously noted, play pretty, technical football, but only occasionally create clear chances (hence their low goal-scoring tally) and Monte had to counter this with a degree of patient play mixed with their own obvious attacking flair. They got off to an excellent start when DAMIEN (20) popped up out wide and swung in a perfect cross for GONZALO (22) to split the centre backs and easily nod home. Would the floodgates now open? Well, no, not really. Dolores are nothing if not resolute and they held firm, despite Monte

having the lion's share of play and chances, the half subsequently slipped into somewhat of a cagey affair, with neither side looking like breaking through. Nicely poised then, for the second. HT:- CD Dolores 0 Montesinos.

Monte almost had a dream start when they were awarded a penalty early on, but GONZALO (22) mysteriously thumped the ball well wide of the upright. A huge let-off for Dolores, but their relief lasted barely a few minutes, when yet more excellent wide play by DAMIEN (20) saw his zipped cross sliced in by a hapless defender with GONZALO (22) lurking. This goal seemed to loosen the tension in the Montesinos side, who started to play with greater expression and verve. It also sucked the wind out of Dolores, who looked utterly downcast to have conceded so early in the period. This goal was then quickly followed by two more from defender MANU (5), heading home a pinpoint LUCAS (7) cross and a thunderbolt of a finish from the 'D' by LUIS (8) (surprisingly, his first this season) which effectively killed off the contest. Later, Monte even had time to

introduce a couple of youth team players in CRISTIAN (19) and MARIO (15), giving them both game experience and winding the clock down. Altogether, another satisfying performance from the Reds. Special mentions in despatches for GERMAN (23) who provided an excellent foil for his strike partner and ANDRES (24) who managed to boss BOTH defence AND midfield, which is not easy, but that's what he does. So, another potential banana skin successfully dealt with and a fairly sizeable crowd of travelling Full Monte supporters got to see their team in full, unabated, flow. What more could you want on a Saturday night? Vamos Monte! FT:- CD Dolores 0 Montesinos

think he would be here. But Andy being Andy, he did come back and he played wonderfully in the second half of last year. Andy never had the most power or the most talent, but he always had great determination and willpower that sets him apart.' Murray is rumoured to be back in full training and his sole focus will be competing at a high level to mount a challenge at this years Wimbledon.

Our winners, with 101 points, were Petina Murray, Donna Campbell (making a guest appearance), Nigel Price and Terry Field (who probably won’t be making a guest appearance anytime soon). Wednesday and it was another dreaded ‘Medal’ round. Mind you it didn’t seem to phase Benedicte Kruse as she took 1st place with an impressive

nett score of 68. Hot on her heels were John Dobson with 74 and Graham Murray with 75. Just the one ‘2’ today which was recorded by Dave Pulling. I did at one point ask my playing partner, John Shervell, ‘What do you think of my game? and was somewhat disappointed when he replied, ‘It’s very good but personally I prefer golf’. FURY VS WILDER 2 CREATES HUGE INTEREST ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC Fury vs Wilder 2 creates huge interest on both sides of the Atlantic.

On February 22, WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder will face self-proclaimed lineal champion Tyson Fury in a rematch of their December 2018 bout which was ruled a draw. 2020 has been slow in the boxing world with no major fights to date other than Kell Brook's comeback win in Sheffield a couple of weeks ago. However, this Saturday night we've got what may very well be the biggest fight well see all year, as WBC heavyweight titleholder Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury meet in a highly-anticipated rematch in Las Vegas.

We saw the strengths and weaknesses of both in their first encounter back in Dec. 2018, but drawing too much from that fight may be a fools' errand. That night, we saw what we expected: the 67 puncher, Wilder, against the oddly slick, 69 technician, Fury.

Fury is a real fans favourite on both sides of the Atlantic and once again received a hero's welcome as he arrived at the MGM Grand to kick off fight week.

Fury spoke to the world's media on Thursday and said "I'm very happy so many people have turned out for this event, whos ready for a war? Let's go!" "I've done everything correctly in training camp, I've been over here for 10 weeks and I feel on fire. I'm ready for anything they chuck at me. I cannot wait for Saturday. " "This is the biggest fight of the last 50 years in the heavyweight division with two men putting it on the line. The fans will be the winners because we both have a lot to lose. It's going to be an entertaining fight." Fury added: "I'm still predicting a second-round knockout, 100 per cent." The first fight was such a spectacle that the rematch has been moved to Las Vegas, the money-making boxing capital and both boxers are set to make a fortune from the fight this Sunday morning. Promoter Bob Arum has revealed that Fury and Wilder will split the purse this weekend, with PPV fees expected to be in the region of 60m. The Brit has already cashed in with his

WWE fights understood to have earned a further 12m and the 2020 accounts are expected to show Fury now worth in excess of 100m. Arum said in January: "Its a signed deal. Not only is it a signed deal for a second fight between the two best heavyweights in the world. "The winner of the fight for a third fight, which is already signed, gets 60 per cent of everything and the loser 40 per cent. "Right now, it's signed for the second fight. Each side gets 50 per cent."

Steward believes that going for the knockout is the best strategy, even though Wilder has not been stopped since losing to Russian Evgenyi Romanov as an amateur in 2008. I'm predicting a knock-out, said the American cornerman. I don't know about the round, but I see Tyson Fury scoring a sensational victory. I'm training him for a knock-out, that's the plan, to get a knock-out.

The Gypsy king parted ways in November with former trainer and friend Ben Davison because he was looking for a different approach in the rematch.

Tyson has been putting every effort into his training and I'm expecting a knock-out. He's going to knock out the knock-out artist! I wouldn't have taken on the fight if Tyson didn't believe he could knock Deontay out."

Fury appointed world-famous boxing coach Emmanuel Steward to help him conquer the mighty Deontay Wilder in Vegas.

Fury and Wilder will make their ring walks at approx 6 am Spanish time in the early hours of Sunday, February 23.
