by Jan Holden Anyone driving around Orihuela Costa can’t help but be horrified by the dreadful state of the roads. How many drivers have had to pay for costly motor repairs because their car has dropped into a deep pothole that has damaged tyres, steering components, or damaged exhausts pipes? How many cyclists have been thrown from their bikes or had a buckled wheel or punctures because of the chronic lack of road maintenance? Virtually every road in the area is an obstacle course for every form of transport and even pedestrians. Tourism is the second highest contributor to the Spanish economy but here on Orihuela Costa it is the single most important generator of income, but anyone holidaying here must think that they have come to a third world economy! I cannot think of any road in the locality

that doesn’t boast huge, gaping potholes some of which span the entire width of the road and can’t be missed. What an awful memory and image tourists must have of the area. Attractions like the beach, the excellent bars and restaurants, Zenia Boulevard do not obliterate the memory of having your hire car damaged by unmaintained roads. What stories they must be passing onto their friends or posting on Facebook! House building is thriving, but the heavy delivery trucks add to the damage to roads that are not fit for purpose. The area near the new secondary school is a case in point; there is a proliferation of new apartments but the road that links Los Dolses to the school is covered in potholes, but worst still is the single track in front of Concierto’s that is now virtually a dirt track but has to be used daily during term time by school buses and parents, not to mention the

More pest control please

crowds of people visiting the Saturday market! Even main roads are not spared this disgusting neglect, the road from San Miguel to Campoamor, passing the new Iceland is full of potholes that fill with water every time it rains. However my pet hate is the arch by the Tiro de Pichon Building that houses Sunshine Radio that links La Zenia, Los Dolses to the Las Filipinas, Los Fiipinos, El Galan, Blue Lagoon amongst several others. This single track road is heavily used by 25% of the population of Orihuela Costa on a daily basis but in the ten years I have lived in this location I can count the number of weeks this 20 metre stretch of road has been free of numerous potholes. I would urge everyone living or visiting Orihuela Costa to

The Green’s are particularly upset about the failure to act on ridding the town of the infestation of mosquitoes and cockroaches it is currently suffering, particularly after the PP’s announcement that it would clean up the town in an emergency initiative that began last month. According to the Green Party, hundreds of residents on various urbanisations and in different areas of Torrevieja have complained about the plague of cockroaches and mosquitoes not only out in the streets but also in their homes, w h i c h has only

become worse, in the latter case especially, after the recent rains. Some of the worst affected areas of Torrevieja include La Torreta, Los Balcones, Vía Verde, Acequión and the urbanisations located close to the salt lakes. The opposition party cited other municipalities, such as Alicante, who have managed to carry out emergency pest control plans and fumigations to avoid the spread of these pests, while in Torrevieja not a single thing has been done. Greater co-ordination and action have been called for as well as an improvement in managing the budget and resources destined to combat this problem.

IT WASN’T FAIR The open-air fairground located in the port of Torrevieja, close to the seafront, is a main attraction for many holidaymakers and residents, particularly those with children. However, due to the singular tax charge for occupying a public street or area, which is applied all year round, half of the fairground’s occupants can only afford to occupy their place for six months of the year. This is because during the other six months, it’s not profitable for them to do so. This situation is likely to change as Torrevieja

Mayor, Eduardo Dolón, has agreed to modify the tax ordinance so that fairground occupants can receive up to 80% discount during the quieter times of the year.

A REAL NATURAL HISTORY As September brings the dawn of the change in season, it also brings abo9ut a new series of guided tours at the Torrevieja Natural Park at La Mata. The first tour, which takes place on Sunday, 15 September 2019, starting at 10:30 a.m., takes the family on an activity which will show how the area has evolved over time, and how it is much more than just earth and salt. During the tour, your local guide will explain how, or more importantly “why”, the territory has transformed in the way it has, and the consequences that have derived from that change. You will also discover the legacy of the elders and learn a story that is not written, the one that does not come in the textbooks, but that is so interesting and is transmitted by word of mouth. The idea of the talk is to show the territory from another perspective, in which the people of the land have been and are the protagonists in the history of the creation of what we know today as the Natural Park of the Lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja. The second tour, which is scheduled for Saturday 28

September 2019 starting at 10:30 a.m., will immerse you into one of the most emblematic territories of the Alicante coast since its two saline lagoons were a crucial enclave for the salt trade. You will learn about the natural and cultural heritage, enjoying the past and present of these impressive salt flats. The route takes in a 4-kilometre walk, suitable for the whole family, in which you will be shown how salt was extracted in ancient times and how the process has evolved to the present day. For both of these talks, which are largely conducted in Spanish, registration is required. Places are limited so you should register quickly and they are free. You can register by giving your full name, telephone number, ID info and the number of people in your party, by emailing parque_ lamata@gva.es, or by telephoning 96 5721650, where

POLICE UNIONS CALL FOR SUPPORT Faced with the threat of strike action affecting their flight home, passengers at Alicante-Elche Airport may not have been in the mood to support unions this week, but that is exactly what was asked of them through a leaflet handed out by officials at the transport hub.

best police forces in the world”.

Jusapol are now eager to gain international support for their primary industrial dispute, the standardisation of salaries across the multiple services that provide security and law enforcement.

However, the request on this occasion was not to support the airline workers, but rather those of the security services, as the union who handed out the leaflets represent the police and Guardia Civil.

The union are also calling for better protection of the officers, such as bulletproof vests and anti-theft gun covers, and better management, although the huge differences in the salaries are the main problem they want to resolve, a fight they have been a part of for 30 years.

The leaflet, which was available in English, French, German and Spanish, offered a welcome to Spain, whilst reassuringly stating that Spain is a safe country thanks to it having, “one of the

A Guardia Civil officer would be on a basic salary of around 28,000 euro, whereas the starting rate for the National Police is over 30,000. In Catalonia, the basic is almost 35,000 euro. The association carried out the campaign simultaneously in twenty provinces, among which it was planned to distribute about 500,000 information leaflets. However, the response at Alicante was not a particularly warm welcome with most people ignoring or dismissing the leaflet assuming it to be nothing more than a special offer.

JOBS GALORE IN ORIHUELA REAL ESTATE It is never a surprise that as the whereas in 2017 the decrease was So far this year, 54 new companies In August, there was a decrease of 212,984 workers paying into the social security system, which is the biggest drop since 2008, according to the information from the Ministry of Work, Migration and Social Security. Despite the considerable drop, the picture is similar to that of last year, when 202,966 subscribers were lost from the system,

We must also keep in mind that this figure includes temporary contracted workers, and so the decrease is directly related to the increase in temporary jobs created before the summer. In August, there were 468,160 more people paying into the social security system than a year ago, and so the figure, including the decrease, is still now higher than it was. In fact, unemployment overall is down once again. One sector which is seemingly b e c o m i n g responsible for an increase in jobs is real estate once again. In Orihuela, for example, there is at least one new real estate company formed every week. In fact, the figure is 1.5 companies per week, on average. That too might seem impressive, but it has also declined from last year when the figure was two per week but is a considerable boost to the economy.

have been registered in Orihuela, according to the Official Gazette of the Commercial Registry, specifically dealing with the real estate sector. These companies are predominantly based on the Orihuela Costa, with just 15% of them based around the city or surro9unding villages, proving the interest in the coastal area of the municipality above the rest of the expanse. Construction in Orihuela also continues to grow. Orihuela stands in fourth place nationwide in terms of new property registrations, and is number one in the province of Alicante, with 904 transactions last year. Between 2014 and 2017, Orihuela saw more than half of the buildings in the Vega Baja area pop up, with a total of 4,315 new homes. Each year the number of new constructions has increased. One of the reflections of the real estate boom is that the price of housing has risen by 16.7% on the coast, more than in any other tourist location of the Valencian Community. It is also the area where property prices have increased in the same period, making it an increasingly popular, but sought after area for purchasing a new home.

HELLO AND WELCOME TO OUR NEW SUNSHINE NEWS READERS! By Sam Kelly, Managing Partner, Chorus Financial.

larger, commission driven firms, and we expect that trend to continue in well into the future.

Many of you will already be aware of Chorus Financial, and the work we've been doing here in Spain to help improve the overall quality of financial advice. Our campaigns have received recognition and major awards across Europe, and today I'm delighted to introduce Chorus to readers of Sunshine News here in our local community. For more than a decade here in Spain, the majority of financial advisory firms have been focussed too much on their own profits, and not enough on their client's best outcomes. Unknown to many of you, investment recommendations here have been heavily influenced by hidden commissions and special deals made between the larger advisory firms and certain investment providers. Despite firms advertising themselves as ‘independent', the reality has been that a firm's entire client-base has been pushed into one or two products or funds, regardless of quality or performance,

Chorus operate with transparency and only recommend pension and investment solutions from major institutions, including household names like The Prudential, Fidelity, Royal London and Rathbones so our clients know they are in safe hands. Over the coming weeks and months, we'll publish weekly educational content relating to investing, retirement planning, tax challenges here in Spain, and the World of finance in general. and this has left the client vulnerable to high fees, and low-quality recommendations – a very dangerous combination. This practise would be illegal in the UK, but unfortunately, even firms that are FCA regulated in the UK, carry out

these practises with non-UK clients. This is not illegal when the client lives in Spain, but it really should be. Chorus have been campaigning against this for many years but, as is often the case, Spain is very much behind the curve Senior Partner, Tracy Storer,

and I have over 12 years combined experience working with British expats in Spain, and I have been writing articles warning of such practises for many years now. Over the years we've seen a major exodus of clients coming to Chorus from the

IKEA OPENS IN ALICANTE Ikea, the popular Swedish furniture giant, has finally opened a store in the city of Alicante, after years of discussion, controversy and thwarted plans that saw other town pitch in to try to locate the firm´s superstore, but alas the story has finally concluded. However, before you run to the car and start driving to the big city, with just 107

square metres of space the shop which will officially open on 12 September is not really any bigger than the one already located in Torrevieja´s Habaneras centre. HOLIDAYING BRIT NUMBERS DOWN Experts have been saying it for a few years, yet their claims were never backed up by any relevant statistics. Now, however, it seems that the Brexit saga may finally be taking its toll on the British population and the secondary effects are also being felt here in Spain. According to data published by Spain’s National Statistics Institute, a total of 9.9 million international visitors holidayed in Spain in the month of July - 1.3% fewer than in July 2018. This drop in the number of international tourists visiting Spain has been attributed to a reduced

number of visitors from two of the country’s major markets – the UK and Germany. The UK still provides the greatest number of tourists to Spain, with 10.4 million during the first six months of the year. However, this figure is still 2.2% less than for the same period of 2018 and is being touted as a consequence of Brexit. Germany, on the other hand, is having its own troubles that are affecting the economy and the population’s spending power. The German economy shrank in the second quarter of this year and may even enter into a recession, according to the Bundesbank.

Spain received 3% fewer German tourists from January to July this year than it did for the same period a year ago. Despite losing visitors from two of Spain’s biggest markets, the number of visitors for the first seven months of 2019 actually increased by 1.9%, almost reaching 48.1 million people. Not only that, but those that holidayed in Spain in July spent more money (+2%) than they did 12 months ago, with the average amount spent per tourist each day increasing 4.9% to 160€.

And, there’s been positive results in the Valencia Region as the number of international visitors for the month of July reached 1,247,582 visitors – a yearly increase of 10% - with spending also going up a whopping 14.6%. For the year, tourist numbers have risen 3%, with the major markets being the UK and France. The number of holidaymakers from these two countries went up 26.5% and 19.4% respectively in July this year. The excellent figures registered in the Valencia Region for July are in stark contrast to the falling numbers recorded in some of Spain’s most popular regions, including Cataluña (-2.1%), the Balearic Islands (-3.5%)

ORIHUELA – THE SHOPPING CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE Since opening their doors on 26 September 2012, Zenia Boulevard has been a massive success in attracting people from around the country to the Orihuela municipality. That, in turn, has improved both the local economy and the awareness of the coastal district, which may well have been an influence on the increased interest in properties and a booming market which benefits the residents and the services on offer. Now, there are ambitious plans to replicate that success in another area of Orihuela, with details revealed this week of a new shopping centre, “Orihuela Village”. The area assigned as part of the master plan for retail growth in the city is in the

No time to be lonely There's no better companion than a cat or dog in your home. If you live alone or spend many hours alone, a pet will keep you company. Most dogs and cats even enjoy to snuggle up on the sofa with you. If you feel lonely, visit a local shelter and adopt a dog or a cat. They're also lonely and waiting to find a companion. Pets lower your stress Pet owners tend to have lower blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels than people who don't own a pet. Stroking your cat or dog will help you to relax. This is why some hospitals use therapy animals, they offer love and comfort to the patients, and help release stress.

Mia the Miracle Kitten

Mia was found next to the bins with her siblings. Sadly all five of the kittens had Panleukopenia virus. Panleukopenia is a species of parvovirus that can infect wild and domestic cats. It is contagious and causes gastrointestinal, immune system and nervous system disease. Usually, this virus is fatal in kittens, as their tiny bodies aren’t strong enough to fight the virus. We lost all of Mia’s siblings and Mia was hospitalised fighting for her life. To our surprise, Mia started to recover more and more every day, and now she is a perfectly healthy little kitten. Mia is nearly ready for adoption, she deserves a loving home. In such a short life she has experienced abandonment and sickness, something that no little kitten should ever experience. Mia is outgoing, super loving, fun and gets on well with other cats. She loves to be around people. If you are interested in finding out more about Mia or offering her a loving home, please contact Happy Pets.

However, if I was to come into your house and put a gun to your head as you watched the T.V, I would probably become the most significant person in your life. Right at the moment I cock the barrel and place the cold, metal against your temple no-one else would matter. You may after a second or two, begin to think about your nearest and dearest, but it would only take a shift of the gun to once again grab your full attention. As you are reading this I should imagine that you are thinking I have lost my marbles and that there is a slight possibility that I have a few bodies under my patio, thankfully you would be wrong. I am simply trying to draw your attention to the third human need, that of 'Significance.' As human beings, we have a burning desire to be

really try to make sure it is a positive one. But for some unfortunate influences from childhood or trauma have led them to seek out significance in negative ways. As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, acts of violence and also crime are extremely effective in creating significance. Research into the psychology of murderers concluded that there are many reasons why people kill and one of them

life. Especially when it comes to getting on with others and having good relationships. Through my work, I have coached many that have had no awareness of their inappropriate behaviour's until they have come to me for guidance and to gain clarity as to why they struggle to get on with others. So I want you to ask yourself today, How do you gain Significance in your life? And do you acquire it in positive ways or negative ones? In line with leading a balance in life regarding the six human needs, it is worthwhile to ask yourself every 3 or 4 months, where you stand on a scale of 1 to 10 in regard to feeling significant and how you can improve it, if necessary.

work, are appreciated for our efforts and are rewarded with regular pay rises and a steady climb up the ranks. There are others who want to be the lynchpin in the family. They want to stay at home and nurture their children and be the one everyone comes to for advice. And for some living a more solitary life with hundreds of animals that they rescued, is what creates significance for them. Whatever our driving force for significance, we should

was to feel important and influential. Particularly when the murderer is someone who lacks friends, close relationships and social skills. Now I am not suggesting that a lot of people go to such extremes of gaining significance through taking the lives of other's but there may be a few amongst us that seek out their importance through manipulative and controlling behaviour, and this is by no means conducive to leading a happy and fulfilling

Significance creates a sense of belonging, of being important to people, of being valued and of being purposeful. It can create feelings of satisfaction on a daily basis. And that is why it is the number 3 top human need. Thank you for taking the time to read my articles and contributes greatly to my feelings of making a difference and feeling significant. WE HAVE WAYS OF MAKING YOU SLEEP Most people underestimate the importance of getting a good night’s sleep. Not only does it have a positive impact on your mood for the day, but regular, quality sleep is vital to keep your body and mind healthy over time. In today’s world, with so many stresses bombarding us from all angles, many of us are not getting the correct amount of sleep nor the quality that we need. Healing body

motivation, irritability, a higher risk of accidents, memory loss and depression can also lead to more serious problems such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes and an increased risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s. One of the best things you can do to ensure optimum health

your

When you enter a deep sleep, your body goes into ‘repair, restore and regenerate’ mode and this is when it heals itself. A lack of sleep will significantly impair your body’s natural ability to heal and regenerate. Studies have also shown that poor sleep can lead to sleep deprivation, which apart from causing drowsiness, lack of

and to prevent disease is to make sure you get enough quality sleep. Most adults need about eight hour’s sleep every night, while children and teenagers require more. Habits that disrupt your sleep While there are numerous

reasons for not being able to enjoy a good night’s sleep, a large number of them are related to our lifestyle and daily habits, which means that they are under our control and can easily be changed. Maybe some of the habits below are affecting your sleep pattern. • Stress or anxiety • Poor diet with too many processed foods • Lack of exercise • Too much time watching television or on the computer • Too much caffeine or other stimulants such as alcohol • Too much time indoors • Not enough natural sunlight • Eating too late in the evening • Sleeping with clothes on • Not enough sex • An uncomfortable mattress How to get a better night’s sleep There are many changes you

can make to your daily routine in order to ensure that your sleep improves. Firstly, it is important that you establish a consistent routine every day. That means getting up at the same time and going to bed at the same time. It would also help to turn off your phone and any other electronic devices at least an hour before you go to sleep, and definitely keep them out of the bedroom. Instead of watching tele or playing on your phone, try reading a book, meditating or doing some gentle exercise during this time. Your eating habits also play a large role in how you sleep. Try to eat your evening meal early, at least three hours before going to sleep, which will give your body time to digest the food. Do not consume any caffeine or other stimulants after 12pm and during the day avoid processed foods, which contain a lot of unhealthy fats and added sugar. Instead eat foods that promote balanced blood sugar levels such as

fermented foods (sauerkraut, kefir); healthy fats (coconut oil, avocado, olive oil) and complex carbohydrates (quinoa, sweet potato) and eat a natural, well-balanced healthy diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables as much as possible. For the best chance of a deep and restful sleep, make sure that your bedroom is cool, quiet and dark when you go to bed. However, if you have trouble falling asleep, you might want to up your exposure to bright, natural daylight during the daytime as this will help you sleep later at night. Also limit your exposure to LED lighting and electronics, particularly after sunset, as too much exposure will most certainly disrupt your sleep. Studies have also shown that sleeping naked does in fact ensure a better quality sleep and even lead to a number of health benefits including improved metabolism and blood circulation, balanced hormones and healthier skin.

A CAMPING NUGGET

Just remember this

In the middle of the vehicle there is a separate bathroom area, with a fully integrated toilet, sink and shower; In addition to a practical kitchen with two gas burners, a large sink and a refrigerator. At the rear, the sleeping area has a 2-metre-long bed designed to sleep two adults.

Holidaying by motorhome has seen an increase in interest in recent years, as singles, couples and families alike pack up their belongings into a four-wheeled mini-home, and set out to find the furthest corners of civilisation to pitch and enjoy the freedom that these vehicles provide. Motorhomes, or campervans, depending on your personal choice of words, are not without their problems, not least the cost, but also their size, as trying to cram as much as one can into a small space means that a bigger vehicle is better, despite technological improvements to make driving as simple as possible, the larger vehicles can be difficult to manoeuvre. To try to solve these problems, Ford has this week released their latest proposal to their Nugget family, an “even more versatile, spacious and practical Big Nugget concept.” Revealed at the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon 2019, and

Sunshine News • Friday 6th September 2019

created in collaboration with the camperization specialist, Westfalia, developers of conventional Nugget models, the 6-metre Big Nugget is based on the long and highroof chassis of the Ford Transit, and offers 13 cubic metres of space and more than 2 metres height inside.

The Big Nugget concept explores the possibilities that a Camperized vehicle based on the Transit could offer, which Ford plans to introduce in the future in the European market, along with the Transit Custom Nugget.

The Big Nugget concept takes full advantage of the extra space, creating four perfectly defined functional areas. In the front, the driver and passenger seats can be rotated to offer a spacious and comfortable living and dining area.

If you want to have a look at the Ford Big Nugget, it is on show right now in Hall 16, stand D40 at the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon, but the last day is today (Friday), so you´ll need to hurry.

SAN JAVIER

This week we look back at two icon motoring events which took place in the recorded history of the motor car.

A favourite amongst families from the moment it was launched in September, 1969, the Austin 1800S was launched this week. Based on the British Motor Corporation (BMC) ADO17, the model code that was used for a range of cars produced from September 1964 to 1975, sold initially under the Austin name, the base model was also presented as the Morris 1800, the Wolseley 18/85, and later as the Austin 2200, Morris 2200 and Wolseley Six. If you have the 1800S variation then it is that version celebrating a birthday this week. With 4 doors and 4 or 5 seat variations, the 1800S had a 1.8 litre, 4-cylinder

engine, giving 96 bhp and with a top speed of a staggering 100mph. If you don´t remember the launch of the 1800S, you might remember seeing a tri of coloured minis, red white and blue, racing through the streets of Turin, as Charlie Crocker and his gang of thieves set about to rob a shipment of gold on its way from China to Italy. Of course that was not news but rather a film, The Italian Job, staring Michael - “You´re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off” - Caine, which was released on the same day, 50 years ago this week.

SEASONAL FRUIT RECIPES It’s always best to eat various fruits and vegetables that are in season as opposed to those that have been imported from across the globe and are still unripe. Seasonal produce is much fresher as it has been harvested at its peak ripeness, meaning that it will contain the maximum amount of nutrients and antioxidants. It will

also taste, feel and smell better.

Wherever possible, try to opt for fresh local fruit and veg to not only benefit the local economy, but also the environment, your health and your purse. Now that we’ve moved into September, the fresh fruit and vegetables that you see at your local market will begin to differ.

Mango chilli salsa This is a fantastic accompaniment to grilled or barbequed chicken, meat or fish.

Cherries and strawberries have practically disappeared, and you should be seeing lots more pomegranate, figs, mango, apples, pears, bananas, melon and grapes. For this reason, this week’s recipes are centred around the fruit that you should be seeing a lot more of this month. Why not try them out and let us know how you got on.

LAS RAMBLAS GOLF SOCIETY Results for w/c 2.9.19 Thanks for their inspiration this week go to Berry Gordy Jnr and all the artists connected with Tamla Motown over the years. Monday saw us compete in a 2 ball better ball competition and I heard it through the grapevine that our latest recruit Dean Tracey, together with his partner Anne Marie Weishart, must have wondered what's going on after the rest of their team failed to turn up. I'm pleased to report though that they recorded second spot with 41 points.

not had a putting lesson with Stevie Wonder beforehand! It really was a ball of confusion on the Al Green. Graham Murray had an eventful day hitting quite a number of Drifters into the barrancos leaving his partner Yvonne Phipps, overheard saying, please don't leave me this way.

Our Supremes today were Olga Douglas and Marleen Billen coming in with an excellent 46 points.

Wednesday's Stableford saw Four Tops (2's) today going to Yvonne Phipps, Olga Douglas, Bryan Neal and Rachel Lee. For Nigel Price it was a question of ain't no mountain high enough on the first and third holes as he managed to lose his tee shot on both.

My team would have fared a bit better had my partner, Dave Pulling,

For John Shervell it was signed, sealed, delivered as he took 1st

place with 35 points. It was the same old song as yet again Nick and Rachel Lee appeared in the top Jackson Five. For myself, it was a case of I wish it would rain after totally messing up the last two holes. Por ultimo Thanks this week go to our resident professional, Terry Field, for his contribution on ‘When to suggest major swing corrections to your opponent.' Pues hasta la semana que viene

SEVEN ENGLAND PLAYERS NOMINATED FOR WOMEN'S WORLD 11 TEAM Seven of the England squad who reached the semi-finals of the World Cup are in the running to be named in the Fifa Fifpro Women's World11.

Keira Walsh and Nikita Parris. Bronze is also on the shortlist for the main award with Rapinoe and Morgan. Women's Champions League winners Lyon have 14 players nominated, including Norwegian striker Ada Hegerberg, who scored a hat-trick in the final and is the 2019 BBC Women's Footballer of the Year. There are nine players on the list who play in the Women's Super League, with the new season starting on Saturday.

JOSHUA WANTS REVENGE ON RUIZ Anthony Joshua "has got that spite back", according to his promoter Eddie Hearn, who expects three fiery meetings with Andy Ruiz Jr this week.

Joshua will see Ruiz Jr for the first time since losing to him at a press conference in Saudi Arabia today, before a December 7. The heavyweight rivals will then face-off in New York on Thursday and in London on Friday before ramping up preparation to contest the IBF, WBA and WBO titles again.

"He's looking into the eyes of a man who has beaten him, and it will be interesting how he reacts," Hearn told the World's media. "I don't think AJ likes him, he doesn't like the comments that have been made. It's going to be lively. "There will be respect because they had a great fight, but there will be an edge. "AJ has got that spite back. I've seen it in the build-up.

I like seeing that - it has to be controlled aggression and controlled spite. You're going in to knock somebody out and that's what AJ wants to do." Joshua had previously told AJ: The Untold Truth about his frustrations that an undisputed heavyweight championship

fight against Deontay Wilder didn't materialise. He said: "I've taken on the world from my 16th fight, I've consistently done that. Then I'm fighting Ruiz Jr?" Hearn insists Joshua has rediscovered his drive: "He didn't have any emotion, and he made that clear. He wasn't up for fighting Ruiz Jr. "It was nothing against Ruiz Jr, he just didn't have any emotion. And now he does." Joshua also caused a furore

by calling Lennox Lewis, the last undisputed heavyweight champion, a "clown". Hearn said: "It's been bubbling for a while. It's not that he doesn't respect Lennox as a fighter. He does - but he doesn't respect him in other ways. People didn't pick that up. "'How can you say that about Lennox?' Of course you can, it doesn't matter what he's achieved. AJ thinks he's a clown. AJ can't win, sometimes he gets stick for being quiet and now he's speaking his mind."

PAUL CASEY DREAMS OF REPRESENTING TEAM GB AT 2020 OLYMPICS. Paul Casey has set himself the challenge of representing Great Britain at next years Olympic Games and is hopeful of securing himself a place in the Tokyo field.

The British golfer returns to action at the Porsche European Open as world No 17 and outside the cut-off point for the Olympics, with Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood both ahead of him in the world rankings. Only the top-15 players in the world rankings automatically get to feature in Japan, with the remaining spots going to the highestranked players from countries that do not have two golfers qualified. "If I make top 15 and

don't make the team, it would probably be the strongest world ranking for British players ever," Casey said.

"For me, having represented England and Great Britain at amateur level and professional level, and Europe in Ryder Cups, it's the only thing I've not really competed in. "I've done a lot of things in golf but haven't played an Olympics. Japan would be amazing. It's the one last thing. I'm 42 and have a lot of years left yet, but how many chances will I get to play in an Olympic Games? I'll be 43 next year. It's unlikely that I'd make it as a 47-year-old. "I have lots of other goals. One of my biggest is to make the Olympics so every event between

now and the cut-off in June - even if I don't win this week - I know every position I move up on the leaderboard is a bit of world ranking points. "It's a good goal to have, but how do I achieve that? It's by winning Porsche or having a chance to win the Race to Dubai and all those other events. If I were to win two or three times between now and then, I'm probably in. It's good, because it keeps you focused." Casey's appearance in Hamburg is his first European Tour start of the season, outside of the majors and the World Golf Championship events, with the Englishman looking to finish the campaign strongly.
