Whether you see a
strange drawing, scratch, gel over the spy hole, piece of plastic wedged into the door, or anything that looks out of the ordinary, the advice from the police is clear, you should call them. The police will send officers to carry out an inspection, and your call could contribute to them tracking down the would-be thieves, as they may well be able to set up surveillance for a pending return.

Heavy rain this week resulted in a red alert being issued by the state meteorological department, AEMET, and emergency protocols being put in place around the area. The worst rain fell on Wednesday night and into Thursday, resulting in schools being closed in various municipalities, including Almoradi, Benijofar, Daya Nueva, Elche, Guardamar, Montesinos,

rains, lower temperatures and strong wind gusts.
Although any bout of heavy rain is given the colloquial description of Gota Fría, or cold drop, that weather phenomenon this week was as a result of a more descriptive DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos), translated to high level isolated depression, consisting of pockets of cold air that cause torrential
This current DANA moved along the east coast of the country, seeing Catalonia put on red alert first, with AEMET explaining how it quickly moved south, prompting the alerts to spread with the depression. The warnings were accompanied with threats of between 60 and 90 litres or more per square

30 homes. The wall of a school has fallen without causing injuries and according to AEMET, it had never rained so much in this municipality since records began in 1917. They suffered 297 litres per square metre in 24 hours.
National police officers have arrested four people in Los Montesinos in an operation designed to help combat exploitation in the agricultural sector.
In Torrevieja, a minimum of 200 litres per square metre of rain was recorded at the wettest point, with slightly more, 250 litres per square metre, in Orihuela.
The main suspect was a 58-year-old man from Ecuador, who has been accused of exploiting economically deprived agricultural workers in the Vega Baja area.
Although the situation is easing, the weather alerts remain in place for Friday in Almería, Alicante and Murcia, although the DANA will continue inland, causing rain to continue throughout the weekend.
His principal task involved recruiting people who were desperate to earn money and then force them to work in diabolical conditions from the moment the sun rose until it set at night.
He would arrange for the workers to meet in different places on different days, so as not to raise suspicion, and then transport them to various agricultural fields in the Vega Baja where they would work all day without a contract, medical insurance or any legal contract with Social Security. The Ecuadorian was arrested in Los Montesinos as he was driving 15 people to work on the land in the area. The other three people arrested in the operation have been accused of identity fraud and violating the Law on Foreigners.

TAKING MATTERS INTO THEIR OWN HANDS Fed up of the frequent burglaries, of feeling insecure in their own homes and of being abandoned by the authorities, residents of the Ciudad de las Comunicaciones urbanisation in San Miguel de Salinas have decided to take matters into their own hands. Together, under the leadership of Edu Da Silva, the residents have set up their own vigilante group consisting of 200 neighbours and have begun to
take it in turns to patrol the streets of their urbanisation on the lookout for any suspicious activity.
And not long after organising themselves and starting their watchful stints, the neighbours were called into action.
The group communicates via WhatsApp and patrolling members are armed with whistles. They carry out the majority of their watches during nighttime hours, which is when cover from Local Police is deficient due to a shortage of staff.

night, residents spotted several hooded burglars who were trying to enter a number of properties by forcing open the grills and entering the properties through a window. Luckily, with the neighbourhood watch patrol on guard, the burglars were thwarted in their attempts and fled the scene. The Guardia Civil were called and arrived after
10 minutes on the first night and after 45 minutes on the second night. Unfortunately, both times, the robbers managed to escape from the police and the neighbours on patrol. While the residents have been forced to take matters into their own hands, they hope that this measure won’t be permanent and that soon their own patrols will be replaced by those of the Local Police.

TM GRUPO INMOBILARIO SNAPS UP LAST PLOT OF DEVELOPABLE LAND IN TORREVIEJA TM Grupo Inmobilario has paid 30 million euro for its share of the land.
TM Grupo Inmobilario, one of the largest property developers in Torrevieja, has acquired a third of the last big plot of developable land in the municipality - La Hoya - and plans to build 2,000 new properties on it.
As soon as the last procedures are approved, Torrevieja can only grow vertically since the rest of the land is protected.
The original plans for the La Hoya project - the largest in the Alicante province - have been in existence for 20 years but were stalled due to modifications having to be made to comply with changes in the urban building law and the reclassification of parts of the land located close to some of Torrevieja’s protected areas.
Building is expected to start soon after the final procedures have been approved and all the environmental issues have been satisfied by technicians. Approximately 20% of the 7,490
homes that will eventually be constructed on 90,000 square metres of the land will be officially protected, with 700 of them allocated to municipal use. A further 95,000sq m is being allocated to commercial buildings and the developer already has an agreement in place with the multinational DIY company Bauhaus to take one of the plots. The La Hoya project has the potential to house around 23,000 new residents.
La Hoya is situated between the urbanisation of San Luis-El Chaparral, the natural park of the Torrevieja and La Mata lagoons, the area behind the International Auditorium, the CV-905 and Doña Inés. It consists of 1,800,000 square metres, with the capacity to build 7,490 homes.

BACK TO SCHOOL FOR THOUSANDS Whereas portacabins and temporary rooms were once the deficient norm for pupils being educated in Orihuela, the standard of teaching was never in question, and this year, as the new buildings are well established, some 12,000 pupils are on their educational journey to knowledge in the municipality.
Amidst the rush to get to the first day back, the mayor, Emilio Bascuñana, and the
councillor for Education, Ramón López, visited the school at Hurchillo to offer their representative welcome for the new year. For his part, López gave details about the number of students enrolled in classes, revealing that there are a total of 6,434 children in primary and junior schools, 5,761 in secondary bachelor and training schemes, and so, “about 12,200 students enrolled in the centres of the town,

A total of 16 bars and restaurants will be participating in San Miguel’s Tapas Route taking place this Sunday, 15 September from 12.30pm. This is a one-day only event, with the 16 establishments offering customers a traditional tapa and drink for 2,50€, while four of them
will serve a gourmet tapa and drink for 3€ as well. Visitors that fill out a ‘Participation Form’ and fill it with a minimum of five stamps can enter the grand prize draw where the winner will receive a free spa day for two people including dinner.
Meanwhile, in Torrevieja, the figure is lower than Orihuela, with almost 11,400 students having enrolled, with the largest number being in primary school with 4,535

WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT WHEN TAKING FINANCIAL ADVICE? By Sam Kelly, Managing Partner, Chorus Financial. REGULATION: Before your appointment, it is essential you check the regulation of the firm you are speaking to. Chorus make this as easy as possible – our license numbers are listed on all our articles, advertising, business cards, email footers. Via our website’s ‘Regulation’ tab, you can directly visit our listings on the websites of the UK FCA, the Gibraltar FSC and the Spanish DGS and CNMV to see details of all our various licenses and permissions. There should never be any confusion or doubt as to how the firm you are speaking to is regulated, and there is never an excuse not to display this clearly on all literature. If you can’t find license numbers and verify them yourself, simply walk away. FEES: Your advisor should always tell you very clearly how they are remunerated and give you an exact breakdown of all fees. Ensure you have the following fees confirmed before signing anything: 1) The investment vehicle or ‘wrapper’, for example, a

platform or bond, will normally be structured in one of two ways: No tie-in, but a set-up fee payable to your advisor, or an annual fee that is tied-in for a set number of years. Prices can vary hugely from company to company, even for a seemingly identical product. Chorus will guarantee to better any like-for-like quote on any product with a tie-in. 2) An annual advisor fee – this covers servicing and portfolio management and is a fee paid to your financial advisor from your funds. At Chorus this fee is tiered, at a maximum of 0.75% per annum, lowering for larger investments. 3) The fees charged by each individual fund in your portfolio – be very wary of this fee. Fair annual fees for the highest quality, FCA regulated funds are between 0.2% and 1.2% per annum. In Spain we regularly see clients unwittingly paying as much as
3% more per annum for the funds recommended by their adviser. This may be because your adviser is receiving commissions you aren’t aware of. Fund fees like this can treble or quadruple your annual total fees. So, before you sign anything or agree to pay any fees, ask for the total annual % of your proposal to be confirmed in writing (by email is fine – but again, are those regulatory details in their email footer?).
Ensure the ‘wrapper’, adviser fee and fund fees are detailed, along with confirmation of the total annual fee of the proposal, ie all charges added together. There is no excuse for not willingly providing this information in a clear and easy to understand way, and in my experience, when this doesn’t happen, it may mean they are trying to hide fees from you. Ask for fact sheets for the underlying investment funds
I do often feel that as Brits we are too afraid to offend, and this can really cost us. Your entire financial future is potentially at stake when you sign up with an IFA. Never be afraid to ask questions, and never fail to do your own due diligence, and seek a second opinion on any recommendation being made to you. This is simply too important for you to take any chances. Chorus will always consult for free, and you will only commit to fees once all details are confirmed and you are happy to move ahead with a proposal. We only recommended regulated solutions and these always benefit from a 30-day coolingoff period, during which time you can cancel in full without paying any fees. LOW-COST THEFT Two men, 29 and 31, of Lithuanian nationality were arrested at AlicanteElche airport for allegedly stealing goods worth 36,800€ from a duty-free store located inside the terminal.
28,000€ were stolen, while in the second, the criminals made off with 35 pairs of expensive sunglasses valued at 8,800€.
Guardia Civil officers began to investigate after the same store was robbed twice during the month of August.
On trawling through security camera footage, it was instantly apparent that the thefts had been carried out by the same people and that they had taken two flights in the same month.
During the first robbery, which took place at the beginning of the month, 225 bottles of perfume valued at

IS YOUR PADRÓN UP TO DATE? Parents who have shipped their children off to the Spanish public school network for the next academic year are already ahead of the administrative game, as renewing their padrón registration is part of the required process, but for others, it might easily be something overlooked.
Moreover, there are still many people who are reluctant to register on the municipal database, as well as those who forget to deregister when they leave. The padrón is nothing to fear, it is an official register of the activities of people within a municipality, in so much as it determines, as accurately as possible, the real number of people who are active in an area. The padrón does not affect an individual´s taxation, work or even residential status, but it does directly affect the services that the public entities such as the town hall provide, including cleaning, education, health maintenance, repair, and even the roads, public buildings and the number of councillors who serve. In recent years, both Torrevieja and Orihuela lost their “big city” status, as the number of people registered on the padrón dropped below the 100,000 threshold. That drop not only resulted in a reduction in the amount of funding directed to the municipality from the central government, it
also reduced the amount per head, resulting in a considerable drop in the amount of money available to fund public services. Although Torrevieja hasn´t yet seen a return to the growth from a decade ago, Orihuela is seeing a strong presence in the number of properties sold and businesses started, and yet the figures have not yet transposed into an increase in registered number and, subsequently, the amount of public funding available. Registering, and deregistering on the padrón is a requirement which cannot and should not be ignored. It directly affects everyone in the municipality, is a relatively simple process, and the reality is that if you are not registered or up to date then you have no right to complain or criticise public services as they are likely failing due to a lack of money which those not registered are directly affecting. If you are already registered, then it is is also important to periodically renew your status, in the same way parents have to, in order to ensure that the numbers stay true, after all, it is taken so seriously that after a while it is the police who come knocking at your door to check if you are still here, as they are forced tom monitor registrations at the end of the line of checks, another job which takes them time away from their roles in service, which could so easily be avoided.
place, were seen not boarding a plane but getting into a car and driving off away from the airport. In actual fact, the two men had purchased cheap flights online, using fake IDs and credit cards. After downloading their boarding passes, they then cancelled their flight and recuperated the little money they had spent on the ticket. However, still in charge of their boarding passes, they were able to
7 access the passenger area, which is where the robberies were committed. Surveillance was then set up at the terminal and the two men were duly arrested after one of the Guardia Civil officers recognised the two Lithuanians from the security camera footage.

LOVE AND CONNECTION The most written-about topic is 'Love' it is also the fourth human need. How does it feel to be loved and love? Why do we desire it so much, yet when it comes to prioritising it in our lives, it often jumps down to the bottom of our list. It's not uncommon for it to sit way below money, cars, houses, clothes, holidays and of course the mandatory iPhone.

Love really does make the world go round and I believe we should pay a lot more attention to it. Love gives us a feeling deep inside, it creates warmth and contentment, excitement and joy. It also makes us feel connected to ourselves and our inner feelings. Most importantly it connects us to others.

If we had prioritised love and connection then Facebook wouldn't be a place people would go to be loved and feel connected to others. Instagram wouldn't be so popular if people valued who they were as people and not what they looked like and what they had. The insane thing about all this is that the strongest desire in all of us, is to be loved. And the only way to have it in abundance in our lives is to love. To put down our weapons of fear, based on past hurts, to work on our awareness of what barriers we have put in place, blocking us from connecting to others.
And yet without it we wouldn't even be here.
As human beings we have a need to belong, to be a part of a family or even you could say a herd. Although this stems from our caveman days when we were much safer from predators if we stayed in groups, it really is about our survival on a much deeper level.

Do you live intentionally caring for others or helping out? Do others know you are there for them with your arms open should they need to seek solace and a place to feel safe and loved? Is your home a place of warmth and sharing? Do you give to those who have less than you? Whatever your level of Love and Connection I am sure you could step up a level, try it and see how it turns out! After all, what we give out always comes back to us tenfold! THE MANY BENEFITS OF DRINKING RED WINE We’ve all heard about the health benefits of drinking red wine – in moderation, of course.
Red wine contains important antioxidants and anti-ageing properties, it lowers blood pressure, reduces the risk of heart disease and can aid combat depression, amongst other things. And if we want proof of this, all we have to do is look at the case of Antonio Docampo García. This Spaniard from Ribadavia, near Ourense in the region of Galicia, passed away three years’ ago at the ripe old age of 107 after only drinking red wine and no other form of alcohol or liquid for most of his life.
Mind you, before you all rush out and stock up on crates and crates of the red nectar, Antonio didn’t buy the wine you get from the shops – he made his own in his own private distillery and did not use any form of preservative or food additive. While he led a simple life and was not a celebrity in any shape or form, his story is now taking the social media network by storm. One of his sons explains that his father did not touch a drop of water during the last years of his long life and it wasn’t uncommon for the two to drink in excess of 200 litres of homemade red wine during the course of just one month. His love of the red stuff knew no
limits and Antonio often drank up to 1.5 litres a day of his favourite drink, with perhaps a chupito of homemade firewater (aguardiente) with his breakfast, just for extra energy. And this routine, he says, kept him young and healthy throughout his existence. In fact, he didn’t take a single pill or form of antibiotic until the age of 103. After starting work as a stonecutter as a child, Antonio fought in the Civil War in 1936 on the side of Franco’s Nationalists. It was at this time that he had to endure the death of his brother, which he described as one of the saddest times of his entire life. After the war, he was reunited with his wife and dedicated the rest of his life to cultivating grapes and making wine. Obviously, he was able to save a little of what he produced so that he could enjoy it on a daily basis – enough, anyway, to be able to put away 1.5 litres, which he consumed alongside every meal of the day. One mustn’t forget, however, that his wine was

completely natural, so if he didn’t use up what was leftover, it would have soured and gone off within a few days! All jokes aside, there have been thousands of studies carried out researching the effects of red wine. Now, one of the largest studies ever to be carried out has confirmed that red wine is also beneficial to your gut health. The importance of keeping your gut healthy is a topic that is at the forefront of today’s health studies, as it was recently discovered that humans, in fact, have two brains, and one of them is located in the gut. The study compared the effects of various alcoholic beverages on the gut, but it was the red wine that really stood out. The red wine drinkers were found to have a greater diversity of different types of bacteria in their gut compared with the non-red-wine drinkers. And scientists have now discovered that the more different types of bacteria a

person has in their gut, the greater their immunity to a wide range of diseases. In addition, the researchers also found that those that drank red wine in moderate amounts had lower rates of obesity and lower rates of bad cholesterol too. The reason for these health benefits was attributed to the polyphenols contained within the skin of the grapes. Polyphenols, natural chemical compounds found in many plant foods, are rich in antioxidants that fight off cell damage and fuel the "good" bacteria and other micro-organisms in our digestive systems. They may also improve digestion, brain function, and blood sugar levels, as well as protect against blood clots, heart disease, and certain cancers.

LATEST BREXIT REMINDER FOR DRIVERS The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency has updated the advice for drivers in the event that the UK leaves Europe without a deal on 31 October, with owners and drivers of both private and commercial UK-registered vehicles warned that they need to prepare now. Drivers who hold a UK driving licence will also be required to carry an International Driving Permit in order to drive in some countries, as well as ensuring that your passport is up to date, with at least six months left before it expires. Drivers of vehicles involved in commercial activities may also need an ECMT permit, a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence and a tachograph driver card. You will also need insurance of course, but this must also include
a motor insurance green card for the vehicle and/or trailer.
You must also display a GB sticker on the vehicle, carry the logbook, and ensure that the MOT is up to date. Commercial goods drivers will also need extra documentation from
the shipping provider, including separate cargo and customs documents. You will need more documents if you are transporting high-risk goods or animal/plant/ other controlled products. It is the responsibility of the exporter to provide these documents, but they will be needed to take goods across the
border.
The DVSA warns that EU countries may impose different requirements on their side of the border. Carrying goods that do not comply with EU requirements could result in delays or penalties. Traffic movements are also set to be disrupted in the event of a no-deal Brexit scenario, with the implementation of Operation Brock planned, a strategy which will play a vital role in ensuring that goods continue to flow in and out of the UK and disruption is kept to a minimum. Operation Brock is designed to tackle disruption at the border by queuing lorries bound for Europe on the M20, while keeping all other traffic moving in both directions on the other side of the motorway. If the M20 capacity was not sufficient, Manston airport and, if necessary, the M26 could also be used to queue lorries.

White Lines go a Long Way This week sees the anniversary of the first automobile fatality in America when Henry H Bliss was run over by a car when he was getting off a streetcar in New York on 13 September 1899. In the UK, road safety took a huge step forward on 13 September 1925, when the Ministry of Transport announced that white lines would be painted on the roads to try to separate traffic, thus, they hoped; reduce collisions, particularly at junctions and on bends. It was 4 years later, on the same day in 1929 that the Ministry of
Transport announced that traffic lights, which were in use in 21 provincial towns, were to be standardised. Red would signal stop, and green go, but amber would warn of a coming change. The automobile was proven to be not just a mantoy and equality got a boost this week in motoring history when on 14 September 1968, Miss Patsy Burt broke the Brighton Speed Trials standing start record with a time of 20.21 seconds (110.69 mph) in a McLaren Oldsmobile. She was the first lady to win the event and was also the Ladies’ record holder at Shelsley Walsh, the oldest sprint and hillclimb event in Britain, from 1967 to 1978.

Spotlight On... Lady Jazz
We are very lucky to have some very talented musicians here on the Costa Blanca, and one such very talented performer is Anita van den Berg better known as Lady Jazz. This charming entertainer who hails from Holland was an Events Organiser, and for many years she was the Events Producer at the Casino Company.
In addition to this Anita starter her own model agency “Gold Models”, which became an instant success. Her inspiration to start this venture came from the time she worked with other agencies and saw further potential in this industry. Later, after all the pressures of business, Anita decided to take things slow and relocated to Spain. Anita moved to Spain 5 years ago “without a plan”. It was then her passion for music returned to her. As a teenager, Anita was already a seasoned performer in her native Holland and recorded her first single at the age of fourteen. Settled in Spain, it was so much easier for her to resume her singing career as her voice had matured and was perfect for the Jazz genre of music.
by Stevie Spit
In the past 5 years, Lady Jazz has firmly established herself on the local entertainment scene. Her versatile performances have made her very much in demand by many venues, catering for both tourists and residents alike. Anita was surprised and honoured to be chosen as official support act to the American soul group, “Earth, Wind and Fire” when they appeared at Torrevieja. In her words, an evening and an experience never to be forgotten. Her music is ideal for restaurants, lounge club,s cocktail lounges, weddings and private parties. Stylish music covering numbers by the likes of Billie Holiday, Etta James and the unforgettable Frank Sinatra. She also sings songs from more modern artists, such as Melody Gardot, Amy Winehouse, Sade and Karen Souza. Contemporary songs with a wonderful jazzy sound that everyone can appreciate. For more information, and to book Lady Jazz take a look at her website www. lady-jazz.com or call her on 677 233 879

WHO THE F*CK AM I? Having lost both his parents to suicide at two very different times of his young life, Eric Champon has personal experience of losing loved ones to this veritable social blight. In his autobiographical book (available on Amazon) published in August 2019 'Who the f*ck am I?, a journey of self discovery', Eric provides an inspiring insight on how to reinvent yourself when life has knocked you down. Amidst experiences of suicide and depression, self confidence and alcohol
issues, Eric's light, relaxed, and motivational writing aims to show the reader that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Tuesday 10th of September is the World Health Organization 'World Suicide Prevention day 2019'. This kick starts a one month awareness campaign called '40 seconds of action' as worldwide every 40 seconds someone completes suicide (www.who.int). In the U.K., someone completes suicide every 90 minutes and two thirds of victims were not in contact with mental health services. Three quarters of suicides are men (data from 2016). Various government initiatives in the past years have
given more visibility and resources to Public Health England to tackle this 'growing epidemic'. Amidst all these positive campaigns to encourage people to seek help and to open up about the challenging and depressing thoughts that they may be feeling, suicide rates worldwide are still shockingly high. There is still a great degree of stigma attached to depression, suicide and mental health in general. It is as if the word 'mental' immediately conjures up a cloud of negativity and taboo. Indeed, it is difficult to connect with a person who is in the middle of a depression or who has attempted suicide, to make them view their personal situation in a different light and offer potential outcomes that do not involve ending their life.
World Mental Health Day
2019
Working together to prevent suicide A day for “40 seconds of action” World Mental Health Day, on 10 October, is a day for us to unite in our efforts to improve the mental health of people around the world. The theme selected for this year’s Day is suicide prevention. We will begin our efforts to raise awareness of the scale of suicide around the world and the role that each of us can play to help prevent it on 10 September, World Suicide Prevention Day (#WorldSuicidePreventionDay), which has been observed for more than 15 years. Our efforts will continue throughout the following month, until 10 October. Every 40 seconds someone loses their life to suicide.
#40seconds
On this year’s World Mental Health Day, in addition to events and activities taking place on or around 10 September, we are encouraging you to prepare to take “40 seconds of action” on 10 October to help us: improve awareness of the significance of suicide as a global public health problem; improve knowledge of what can be done to prevent suicide; reduce the stigma associated with suicide; and let people who are struggling know that they are not alone. Put simply, this is an opportunity to show you care. Everyone can take part in whichever way makes most sense. Your activity may be private, for example, initiating a conversation with someone you are worried about or sharing a message of hope with someone who is struggling; or it may be public, for example posting a video message for local or national authorities about action you would like them to take on this issue.

DANIELLA’S STORY
on as I thought it was only a brain haemorrhage. I had to have an MRI scan every 2 weeks and a normal scan every week. They arranged a Caesarean section at 39 weeks.
When she was born after many tests she was sent home after a week, we were told she had the brain haemorrhage and part of her brain had not fully developed. However, we were told she could go home and we would have to wait until the future to know how she would develop - whether she would walk or talk.
This is Daniella. Daniella is 1 year & 3 months old. She has Mitochondrial Disease PDHA1 - Pyruvate dehydrogenase E1 alpha 1. When I was 20 weeks pregnant they found a brain haemorrhage. After an MRI confirmed this I then went on to have amniotic fluid taken, and, after a few other tests, we were told she didn't have any disabilities. Although they advised we abort her I decided to carry
But after 3 weeks at home, I found she wasn't feeding and she was sleeping all the time, but I was told this was normal. Then one day she wouldn't eat at all. So I took her to the emergency room and straight away they did a blood test and they
found her lactic acid levels very high so she was taken straight on to a ward.
After 300 different tests and 1 month in the hospital, they found the dreaded RARE Mitochondrial disease. A quick explanation Mitochondrial disease results from failures of the mitochondria, specialized compartments present in every cell of the body (except red blood cells) Mitochondria are responsible for creating more than 90% of the energy needed by the body to sustain life and support organ function. Daniella has high lactic acid due to this she needs a very strict diet NO sugar or carbohydrates, so she has a very special diet which everything has to be measured to the gram. She has a PEG (feeding tube in her stomach) She is nil by mouth due to swallowing troubles down to Mito which is causing trouble to her lungs and, can cause pneumonia which has happened 4 times already. The last time she ended up in Alicante ICU & we were told to say goodbye to her.
Thankfully the next day she woke up smiling! Daniella has convulsions regularly she's medicated with Keppra. Daniella has to have special vitamins and unfortunately the government class this as vitamins and not medication so it costs just under 1000 euro a month!
What is Mitochondrial Disease?
Mitochondrial diseases result from failures of the mitochondria, specialized compartments present in every cell of the body (except red blood cells).

FUN IN THE SUN WITH LIVE MUSIC AND A BBQ On a sunny Sunday in early September friends and family came together for a BBQ cooked by Joey and Jim, Chefs from T.J's restaurant in Benijofar to raise funds for the Huntington´s Disease Association Costa Blanca. After enjoying the delicious food people danced to live music played by Barry Young. Towards the end of the evening some guests joined in for Karaoke.
The generosity of all those attending, and in particular Joey, Jim nd Barry for providing their time free of charge, and all volunteers helping on the day, was warmly welcomed
by the President. She said that ticket sales and the raffle raised a magnificent 523 Euros.
She went on to say that without this support we would not be able to provide the much needed support for people with Huntington´s Disease and their carers. The enthusiastic and continuing support of local people was greatly appreciated. The next Huntington´s Disease Association event is a hot and cold buffet/dance on 9 November 2019 at the Pines Restaurant in Benijofar. Tickets, in advance, are €20
per person.

Urgently needed: Secure storage facility in Almoradi As the success of the Huntington´s Disease Association Costa Blanca grows it has become increasingly necessary to find a safe storage facility for the Association´s equipment. The Association´s President
said: We are desperate to find a lock up facility in Almoradi, preferably close to the El Bañet area. Clearly as a charity we are unable to pay commercial rates and we are hoping that a local business might have a facility that could be made available at a discounted rate. LOCAL RESIDENTS JOIN OUR #STATEOFORIHUELAROADS CAMPAIGN
A selection of the emails and photos sent to Sunshine News after last weeks article on the deteriorating state of roads around Orihuela Costa
At the new school in La Florida this morning and this is what children and parents have to go through when it rains Sheila
Dear Sunshine news, Next important issue is the suffering from the Orihuela Council for years about to execute the widening of the bridge carrying the road over the AP-7 motorway to allow pedestrian footpaths up to the Lomas de Cabo Roig area. Even now the new Lomas de Cabo Roig shopping centre is already in use the promised works did not start. Especially at night it is very dangerous when people go out at the Strip and walk back !! We are waiting for the first dead ! I hope Sunshine News can make the difference. More info is on Facebook. Kind Regards, Mrs. T

Just a few potholes to avoid and then overhanging trees to navigate on Verdemar 4. Arthur
Sir, the reason the roads look like they have been testing tanks on them is simple, Orihuela City keeps most of the income generated via taxes or the pardon, I would be interested to know what percentage is spent on Orihuela costa compared to Orihuela City. Don’t suppose they have freedom of information here. This begs the question what are our councillors doing about it? Jane Montegolf, Villamartin
