Financial aid for farmers affected by the flooding in September is not coming fast enough to help them, according to a spokesperson for the Vega Baja crop growers.
head of the cooperative union, Alberto Travé from Unió de Llauradors, “thousands of families continue to suffer since they have lost their crops and aid will not come to everyone. Especially, for those who do not have agricultural insurance, which is one of the conditions that, in some cases, are required to obtain aid.”
Following the catastrophic flooding in September, the agrifood sector has suffered considerably, with more than 50,000 The damage caused by hectares affected. The water in pomegranate current situation, according to the Continued on page 3
Although foreigners are not eligible to vote in the national elections, the result of last week´s vote may well change the political field when it is our turn to put the cross on a box most relevant to our needs. In Orihuela, the relatively new and far-right party, Vox, beat both the socialist PSOE and the more centre-lined Ciudadanos, to become the second most voted
political group in the municipality. The Partido Popular remained the most voted group with a 30.61% share taking 9,147 votes, followed by Vox with 24.49% and 7,320 votes. In third place is the PSOE with 23.54% and 7,035 votes. Ciudadanos, who faced a national beating, were in fourth place with 8.79% and 2,628 votes, losing more than 10% of the votes (3,707) compared to the General
Elections in April. Despite an inspiring election campaign with emotive videos through social media, Podemos came in fifth place with 2,619 votes, which represents 8.76%. Participation was down, put partly due to apathy over the number of elections being held, with 70.12% of registered voters turning out

BOULEVARD IN VAN DRIVE Saturday saw a gala performance by a number of artists at the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre, all giving their time for free in the hope of raising money to buy a minibus type multipurpose van to donate to a local association.
The centre organised the event in the hope of raising funds so they could purchase and donate a van to the ADIS association, which in turn would be used to help those affected by the DANA flooding in September. Cristina Ros, the boss of the shopping centre, said, “After what happened in September, Zenia Boulevard helped from
the outset by providing food, clothing, baby products etc, as such many people lost everything. We also held meetings with the town council to assess how we could help, and specifically assist the groups that would have been damaged by the floods. During the event a symbolic handing over of the keys to the van took place with Lourdes Pérez from ADIS accepting them and saying, ADIS is very grateful to Zenia Boulevard for the donation of the van, actions like this do not happen every day. With the new van ADIS can return to normal, picking up local people who use the service every day.

GRANT FROM THE BANK
The social funding section of La Caixabank has given 30,000 euro to Orihuela to help families affected by flooding.
The agreement was signed between the social entity and the town all on Monday, giving the money to be allocated to directly help those affected by the catastrophe in the municipality. The councillor for social welfare, Mayte Sánchez, explained that thanks to this donation, “the social
services department will send help to the families that need it most as determined by the relevant reports”. The area director of the Caixabank, Juan Alfredo Agulló, said that “after the DANA we want to give back to the Oriolanos their confidence by making this contribution because we feel close to Orihuela”. The mayor, Emilio Bascuñana, said that “this catastrophe has awakened solidarity and fortunately our municipality still continues to receive the collaboration of institutions, entities and companies, as well as individuals to help our neighbours out of this difficult situation”, concluding by thanking CaixaBank for the contribution.

CLIMATE CHANGE STUDY LAUNCHED The first phase of this study consists of the identification of colonies of Vermetidae, the worm snails or worm shells; Gorgonia, sea fans of soft corals; and Cladocora caespitosa, commonly known as cushion coral. The institute of coastal ecology - El Instituto de Ecología Litoral - has launched a project to study the effects of climate change on the reef habitat in the LevantinoBalearic region, including the island of Tabarca. The initiative is intent on studying and evaluating the effects of the phenomenon on the reef habitat and has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition. The study will start immediately and will continue until February 2021, monitoring the marine habitats around the coastal areas with Tabarca playing a key role in the study, along with areas such as Serra Gelada, la Marina Baixa, and Cabo de las Huertas.
the introduction of exotic species and pathogens", recalling how the areas have had protected status for many years because of the risk to the Mediterranean seabed and its biodiversity.
The monitoring will be carried out by sensors installed to constantly measure the physical parameters such as movement and growth, as well as the temperature and Ph levels of the water, indicators which are known to affect the evolution of the corals.
In addition to focusing from a scientific point of view, the initiative will include the participation of volunteers who regularly collaborate in the Oceanic Posidonia Prairie Monitoring Network, which the Institute of Coastal Ecology develops together with the Diputación de Alicante.
The results will evaluate the loss of Vermetidae colonies and the degree of bleaching or necrosis in the Gorgonia and corals of Cladocora.
Likewise, the project will open to groups of students from the area, including in Santa Pola, who will be invited to join in during the next few weeks.
The provincial deputy from the environmental department, Miguel Ángel Sánchez, explained that "all these species are very vulnerable to fluctuations in temperature and sea level, acidification or

ELECTRICITY BILLS UP The average domestic electricity bill increased by 4.8% in October, with the average bill reaching 70.08 euro, compared to 66.87 in September. The electricity bill for an average stood at 79.79 euro in January, 75.37 in February, 72.39 in March, 73.09 in April, 70.97 in May, 69.62 in June, 71.82 in July, 68.64 in August, 66.87 in September and 70.08 in October. Although the increase in bills is never welcomed, it is lower than a year ago. Collectively, the average monthly bill is 72.11 euro, 5.8% below the 76.58 euro of the January to October period in 2018. In the first ten months of 2017, the average was 74.63 and 65.90 euro in 2016.
According to one Consuer group, FACUA, the disproportionate prices of electricity, the absence of competition in the sector and the economic situation of families justify the establishment of a rate set by the Government to protect consumers. A reduction in IVA on electricity is another of the association's demands. Lowering it to 4% would have saved the average user 130 euro last year. Before taxes, the average cost was 728.15 euro. The 21% IVA currently in force and the electricity tax add up to a 27.19% increase in the bill, making it 926.16 euro in 2018. With IVA at 4%, the sum of indirect taxes would represent 9.32%, with which the amount would have fallen to 796.01 euro.

FIFTEEN MICHELIN STARS If fine dining is something you crave then you need look no further than the Costa Blanca, as highlighted in the food event Gastrónoma 2019. Carlos Mazón, the president of the provincial government, the Diputación de Alicante, attended the event in Valencia where the 'Costa Blanca Day' was celebrated in order to highlight the culinary delights of the area, which holds 15 Michelin Stars spread over eleven establishments. Mazón, who has chaired the Alicante lunch offered by the Provincial Tourism Board to journalists and prescribers, said that “gastronomy is one of the most identifying elements of our land and one of the reasons why thousands of people choose to spend their vacations or enjoy a break each year. It is the perfect complement to the offer of sun and the beach”. The president continued, “Alicante is one of the provinces where Spain is best eaten and has the most women with the Michelin Star badge. Our rice dishes, our products with Denomination of Origin or our wines and spirits, with numerous awards and recognitions,
form an amalgam of unique and own flavours, recognised in the national and international scene”. It is the first time that the Costa Blanca has participated in this professional event with the purpose of addressing the latest culinary trends by the most representative chefs of the Mediterranean arch. Throughout the day the province of Alicante took centre stage, especially in the central kitchen of Feria Valencia. Also attending the meeting were the director of the Costa Blanca Board of Trustees, José Mancebo, the mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, the municipal vice mayor, Mª Carmen Sánchez, the councillor for commerce, Lidia López, as well as mayors from some of the municipalities across the province. The president concluded, “Alicante is the cradle of the Mediterranean diet and, apart from the nutritional pyramid, has something more important, we take advantage of meal times to do it with serenity, to talk, to laugh and to be among friends, because that's how it makes us feel better.”

A TRULY REVEALING WEEK… By Sam Kelly, Managing Partner, Chorus Financial. It was great to meet so many of you at The Finance Tour last week. I’ve been on the panel of this prestigious event for several years now. I truly believe in the value of those of you living here in Spain getting to speak directly to the actual product providers and also really enjoy giving you all Chorus’s perspective. As those of you who have been reading my articles over several years will know, Chorus are all about transparency. Beyond just being transparent about our fees, we are also incredibly open and transparent about our investment strategy. You’ll recognise the image in this article as the ‘Chorus Balanced’ portfolio. Chorus Balanced is a real-life investment portfolio that a number of Chorus clients hold, and we publish it regularly to show you that we don’t just talk the talk, we actually walk the walk. The performance you can see (the Blue line) is compared to the FTSE 100 (the Red line) over 5 years. The Chorus Balanced portfolio is a mix of 14 different funds, spreading the investment risk over multiple sectors and geographic regions for maximum diversification. Various managers run different parts of the portfolio including Rathbones, Schroders, Royal London, Fidelity, Fundsmith and other trusted household names. What was most interesting on the tour was how many people fed back
that their portfolios did not look like this. People were consistently saying they were only exposed to one or two different funds managers, and only a handful of funds. More often than not, what we see in Spain is financial advisory companies having ties to fund managers. This is unhealthy for the following reason: When I come to choose funds for my client’s portfolios, I have the whole fund universe to choose from, realistically as many as 3-4000 different funds. So, if, for example, I want to find a US Equity fund for a portion of my client’s overall portfolio, I can go to the open market and find which US Equity funds
have performed best over say the last 1, 3 and 5 years. From there I can create a shortlist and ultimately make my recommendation. If your IFA’s firm has close connections with a fund manager, they are very likely to have just one US Equity fund to choose from, regardless of performance. We also see that in these circumstances these funds can be as much as 3 times more expensive for the client due to a hidden fee arrangement between the fund manager and the IFA firm. These unhealthy relationships lead to lower returns for their clients, and ultimately, unnecessary risk.
When we did a direct comparison of the exact described scenario above for those who attended the tour, we saw that the US Equity fund used by one of the largest IFA firms here in Spain had underperformed the independently chosen fund by over 20% over 5 years, whilst charging 3 times more in fees. I’m sure that’s not a situation any investor would want to find themselves in. If you are considering financial advice here in Spain, or have an existing pension or investment that you think could perform better, please contact me on 0034 664 398 702 or email s.kelly@chorusfinancial.es.

Monday 11th November was no ordinary day for the relaxed seaside resort of Santa Pola, as a Griffon Vulture landed in the area, and was later rescued.
Juan Pujol a biologist at the recovery centre of Santa Faz de la Generalitat, said the bird would be fed and cared for before being released back into the wild, in one of the mountainous regions of Alicante.

FUNDRAISING TO SAVE THE ANIMALS Each year thousands of animals find themselves homeless, neglected and injured. Many of these animals are taken in by rescues like Happy Pets Rescue who provide them with the necessary care to help them recover and go on to find loving homes. This process can be rather costly especially when rescues are faced with complex cases. Some animals arrive with serious injuries and require numerous surgical procedures and treatments to recover. Even the most straight forward cases require basic care such as vaccinations, microchips and parasite treatments which all add up, leaving rescues with very high veterinary bills. Not forgetting the costs to maintain the animals during their stay at the rescue. So, how do rescues continue to fund their work? Rescues in Spain very rarely receive government funding to do this vital work. Instead, we rely on the generosity of our community and animal lovers like you. Charities are constantly looking for new and creative ways to fundraise and enthusiastic volunteers to come on board. It's so important to come up with new ideas and events to keep the funds coming in, without this we wouldn't be able to continue saving lives. If you would like to do something positive and raise some much-needed funds for a local animal rescue, take a look at the list of fundraising ideas to get you started, it can be as easy or challenging as you like. Don't forget that not only do fundraising events help save lives, they also help spread the word to new audiences and get many more people on board.

CHANGE YOUR VIEWPOINT
by Nicola Farnhill Connected to Self
“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change’’ 'When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change'' was one of the late Dr Wayne Dyer's most famous saying's. For those of you that have never heard of Wayne, he was a great American spiritual leader and philosopher, who travelled the world and wrote books that were meant to inspire positivity, question negativity and help us live our best lives from our hearts.
inducing reports and tragedies. But I want you to ask yourself 'Do I need to know about all this?' My answer after living without T.V and intentionally focusing and only talking about good things is 'No' you don't.
the energy doubles, so causing more aggression and discomfort, which can then manifest into physical violence. And in the same breath, if we speak calmly and quietly to someone who is shouting at us, the bad energy is more likely to disperse.
Wayne became a great inspiration to me when my mother died 10 years ago. Lost and with a broken heart, I was desperate to find something to help me cope and face what seemed like an eternity of pain. I loved my mother more than life itself, we were best friends and soul mates. So it was from this deep pain and anguish, that I began searching and came across Wayne's teachings and books, I was hooked. I found comfort and hope in his words, maybe there was life after my loss after all. One of the greatest and most powerful things I learned from Wayne, was that how we experience life is based on lots of things but one of the main ones if we want to feel happy and joyful, is taking care to focus on positive things and ignore negative ones. Now this theory may seem impossible or ridiculous to you, especially as we live with T.V and other types of media constantly bombarding us with fear-
conversations when it is around us. Maybe we can focus instead on what is going right! How lucky are we to get out of bed in the morning, to have a roof over our heads, food on the table and money in the bank. And maybe even if you haven't got all these things now, you can focus on the fact you can improve your life and chase your dreams, one day at a time. There is also so much beauty in the world, especially within nature and we are blessed to experience so much of it, here on the Costa Blanca. So why not go look at the beautiful, blue of the Mediterranean, or take a trip to the lakes and marvel at the rare birds and marine life. Not forgetting the stunning pink flamingos.
We all know that terrible things are happening in the world and we can all contribute to helping, but we don't need to talk about them to everyone and their mothers, putting more focus and energy into them. You see when we talk about bad stuff we keep it alive, not only in our minds and lives but energetically. We keep the momentum of it going and this creates more of the same. For example, if someone attacks us verbally the energy of the attack is aggressive and uncomfortable and we feel it. If we in turn attack back, then
Now, I know that it is sometimes difficult to be aware of what we speak and think about. We can quickly obtain bad habits that just become normal, the more we practice them. But I think it is worth the effort to take some time to consciously bring yourself into awareness. Our feelings are one of our greatest guidance systems in letting us know how we are experiencing life. If we feel sad, depressed and dismay in the world, it may be because that's all we talk about. Maybe we need to spend some time working on this by not indulging ourselves in negative
There is beauty and joy in so much if we intend to look for it. And also if we intend to create it. Whatever we create comes back to us, so why not live to create happiness, sharing smiles, love, being generous with our time, our money and even our belongings. If you are stuck in a rut of negativity, why not give me a call on 634316839 or email connectedtoself@outlook. com and let me help you to see, feel and experience the positivity that is available to us always. Sending you much love and happiness, as always

LIVING WITH PLANTS Lavender
Placing a lavender plant in your bedroom can aid sleep and relaxation. With their beautifully coloured flowers and soothing aroma, they need only a bright corner and a small amount of deep watering regularly, once or twice a week. What better way to rest and rejuvenate! Spider Plant Oxygen is one of our major life sources. And if you want to increase your health and well being then incorporating plants into your environment is a wonderful way of doing it. Plants not only create beauty, but they also absorb carbon monoxide and release oxygen into the environment around them. In nature and the outside world, trees and plants are our number one source of oxygen and so we can see how nurturing and protecting them is vital to our existence. With this in mind its no
plants is a much more thoughtful and healthier way of expressing ourselves. Plants also have a therapeutic and healing value, with their visual attributes and energy contributing to our feeling of well being. They bring the outdoors in and also create a more natural environment of peace and tranquillity. And if you work from home, having a plant nearby has been said to aid in memory and concentration. As human beings, we have a natural
These long thin-leaved plants, grow like wildfire and can easily be, transferred to another pot as they grow. They remove formaldehyde caused by paper products and also are highly functional in creating more oxygen. They are also great to use as a hanging plant, as they grow downwards. Snake Plant Want something really easy to care for? Then why not start with a ‘Snake’ plant or ‘Mother-in-law’s tongue as is their nickname. These tougher leafed, cactus-like plants stand upright and have a vibrant green and yellow leaf, that is attractive and can brighten up any corner. They are also fabulous for getting rid of any toxins in the air. Boston Fern
wonder that so many of us find ourselves adorning our homes and enjoying caring for our plants. As the weather turns cooler introducing a few house plants into the home is a great way of discouraging colds and even flu. As they create humidity. And if you suffer from dry skin you may see a marked improvement when you live with them. Now we all love to see beautiful, cut flowers in a vase, they brighten up a corner and have long since been used as gifts and to show love and appreciation. But if we want to create more than a colourful display, buying and giving
desire to nurture and protect and having plants to care for brings out that instinct within us. Having pets also brings out that loving side of us, but with many of us working extended hours, having plants can be a great substitute. Research has also shown that speaking to plants in a caring way has increased their ability to grow and flourish, as they pick up on the positive energy we project on to them. Just like us, they respond to being loved. So with all this in mind why not pick out a couple of the plants I have suggested and created a healthy and more peaceful environment.
These fine-leaved bushy plants are bright green and brighten up the house. Adding to the décor they are also really popular in more humid climates, so for summertime in Spain, they are a must. Pop them in an airconditioned room as a great de-humidifier and keep them damp and in bright sunlight. Swiss Cheese Plant Have a large area or hallway that needs an attractive plant? then look no further. The cheese plant has wonderfully shaped leaves and grows quite quickly, so make sure you have room to allow this plant to expand. It needs repotting every couple of years and needs a mix of fertilizer and water just once a month. Orchids With so many different colours and varieties, the orchid is one of my favourites. They are great for a centrepiece and are always admired for their delicacy. But don’t be put off, thinking they are hard to keep. Kept in a humid environment and damp, they will flourish for many years.

If you are like me, you often want a sweet bite after a meal but can't be trusted if there is a whole cake around. Especially when the festive season is so near and that Crimbo outfit needs to be showcased, for the work do or family get together. So with this in mind I decided to hunt down some fabulous, tasty dessert recipes, that wouldn't break the bank or the waistline! At just a 100 calories each. Enjoy!

PEANUT BUTTER TREATS
Ingredients • 2/3 cup shredded coconut unsweetened • 1 cup traditional oats rolled • 1/2 cup peanut butter natural • 3 tbsp flaxseed ground • 1/2 cup sour cherries dried • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds raw • 1/4 cup honey • 3/4 tsp vanilla extract • 2 tbsp water optional Instructions Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add the coconut. Once heated, toss around in the frying pan for about 2 minutes, until golden brown. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Cover and allow to sit in the refrigerator for about half an hour. Check after 30 mins and if the mixture seems dry add more water. It needs to be sticky, not crumbly. Then roll the mixture into 20 small, equal-sized balls. About 1.5” in diameter.
LIGHT LEMON LOAF CAKE Topping • 200g icing sugar • 3 tbsp lemon juice Instructions Preheat oven to 180C and grease a 20cm x 12.5cm / 8” x 5” loaf tin. Sift all of the dry ingredients, the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, caster sugar and lemon zest into a bowl. In a separate bowl, add the eggs, yogurt, oil, lemon juice and vanilla extract. Mix together. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the larger
bowl with the dry ingredients. Fold all of them together. Pour cake mixture into loaf tin and bake for 20 - 25 minutes until golden brown. Check the loaf has cooked by inserting a cocktail stick into the centre which should come out clean, then remove from the oven. Then transfer to a wire baking rack. Make the icing by whisking together the icing sugar and lemon juice and pour on the loaf and spread evenly. Cut into slices and freeze.

SEAT – ADAPTING MOBILITY Spanish car manufacturer SEAT has received the 'Smart Business' award from Business Insider, a digital publication, recognising the efforts the company has made in adapting to modern mobility needs, innovations which will lead to improved mobility in cities of the future.
SEAT, which is part of the Volkswagen Group, leads their micro-mobility strategy, generating ideas and creating projects focused on providing sustainable and practical solutions for cities. Mikel Palomera, general director of SEAT Spain, picked up the award at an event held in Madrid, highlighting that, “we have the will and resources to innovate and look to the future as a great car company and, also, mobility service. The will to do things differently is something that is penetrating our DNA, and we want to make a difference
in the sector.”
SEAT is in the process of becoming a provider of mobility services “beyond” vehicle manufacturing and responding to one of the great trends of future mobility: the collaborative shared and sustainable economy. In this sense, the company already has carsharing services through Respiro and, in addition, markets the SEAT EXS KickScooter powered by Segway, which is available for property acquisition and for shared services through the UFO start-up. In addition, SEAT has already introduced the SEAT Minimó concept car, a 100% electric vehicle that combines the best of the car and motorcycle and is designed to adapt to the mobility platforms that will mark the future of driving in cities, they believe. SEAT has also announced the arrival of the eScooter concept, its first fullyelectric motorcycle, which will be presented to the public on Tuesday, 19 November, at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, and will hit the market in 2020. The company thus seeks to contribute to the reduction of the vehicle footprint in urban centres and to offer a wide range of alternatives and mobility

options. Under this objective, SEAT is working together with the municipal administrations to hear their point of view and specific needs, in order to collaborate on a common project for the future. In order to adapt to a context marked by change and to successfully face the digital transformation of the company, SEAT has recently developed the SEAT: CODE (Centre of Digital Excellence), a software laboratory that seeks, on the one hand, to push the digital transformation and increase efficiency through the digitalization of processes and, on the other, to strengthen business models around the new concepts of mobility, connectivity and digitalization of the automobile.

After being the first brand to integrate Waze and Amazon Alexa into their vehicles, in 2018 SEAT was also a pioneer in offering the Shazam music recognition App. Likewise, the company has recently begun to reap the first fruits in the evolution of the connected vehicle, thanks to the 5G technology that the company is developing, one of the most interesting pilot projects to lead the new Industry.

RECORD BREAKERS If you´ve been to London in recent years then you will no doubt be aware that traffic can be a nightmare, even with such restrictions as the Congestion Charge, but on 15 November 1928 it was declared by the Director General of Roads in Whitehall that Hyde Park Corner was the busiest junction in the world. Rome became a contender in 1966 when on this day the millionth motor vehicle was registered on the city databases.

On 16 November 1901, a square platform on bicycle wheels broke the world speed record for an electric car. The “Torpedo Racer”, driven by creator Andrew Riker, flew one mile along Coney Island in 63 seconds, the equivalent to 57 miles per hour. In case you´re wondering, the current

MOTORING HISTORY - Hyde Park Corner Jumping ahead before we go back in time again, on 15 November in 2004, Citroen began sales of their new C4 range in the UK. The car was destined to be the natural successor to the Citroën Xsara, and was mechanically like the Peugeot 308, which was launched three years later. Not unaccustomed to controversy, Bernie Ecclestone was making the headlines on this day in 2008 when he was accused of racism towards racing driver Lewis Hamilton in Barcelona earlier in the year. Eccleston dismissed his comments as “a bit of a joke”, telling the Mail on Sunday, “it came out wrong”. We are jumping back to the start of

By contrast, on the same day and also in New York, A.C. Whilst we are over there, we will stay in America for another “first”, as on 16 November in the year 1904, perhaps the inevitable happened, when the first theft of a motor vehicle, a white steam-powered car, was recorded. The vehicle was later recovered.

After a two year break from the Costa Blanca the very well known, loved and very missed Richie Alexander is returning to our somewhat blustery shores here on the Costa Blanca. Born in the mid '70s in the heart of Sheffield, Richie was influenced very early by the soul stars from the decades to come. Realizing a natural talent early on, Richie went to perform his first gig at the age of 14 at Firth Park Working Mens Club. Over the next 30 years Richie has worked with many famous stars such as Edwin Star, Jimmy Jones, The Stylistics, Earth Wind and Fire, M people, Kool and The Gang and the Drifters to name but a few He has since expanded his career into Northern soul, with those pants flapping at the fast leg action of the Northern soul wiggle you will often see him at the local festivals if not singing he is always dancing. Gaining the title of Richie” lord of the talcum powder” You have to see him perform to understand! Taking a break back in the Uk has made Richie realize his heart is truly in Spain and apart from the weather perks he has missed all the people that supported him and this was shown when he appeared at Legends in Playa Flamenca last month for

a one-off performance! The whole bottom floor of the centre was full as far as the eye could see and when you look at the videos on his Facebook page you can see how overwhelmed and humbled he was by the crowds that turned up to welcome him home. There was so much love shown from the Costa Blanca residents, they must have made him feel like he could have flown home without that plane the next day! He is back on the Costas this week for good and there is no time for the grass to grow under his feet. He has hit the ground dancing in a haze of Johnsons and is already fully booked up for the foreseeable future.

UK NATIONALS VOTING IN THE UK GENERAL ELECTION The UK is holding a General Election on 12 December. British citizens who have been abroad for 15 years or less can register as an overseas voter. Once registered, you have to renew your registration every year. You will get a reminder when it is time to renew. If you do not renew your registration, you will be removed from the register and must make a fresh application in order to vote again. Steps have been taken by the British Embassy to help speed up the delivery of postal votes
overseas and advise that they are sent back in good time, especially during a period as busy for post in the UK as December is.
You can vote from Spain in two ways – by post or by proxy. Overseas voters who are re-registering to vote or newly applying to use a postal vote in the days running up to the deadlines should seriously consider the option of a proxy, as at that stage there will be reduced time needed to send out, complete, and return a postal vote from overseas. If you want to vote by post in Great Britain, your local Electoral Registration Office must receive your postal vote application by 5pm on 26 November. If you want to vote by proxy in Great Britain, your local Electoral Registration Office must receive your proxy vote application by 5pm on 4 December. You cannot vote by post from

abroad if your registered address is in Northern Ireland. If you are registered in Northern Ireland, applications to vote by proxy must be received by 5pm on 21 November by the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland. HMA Hugh Elliott said: “I would encourage all British citizens to register to vote if you are able to and you should consider voting by proxy to ensure your vote is counted.” UK Nationals can vote and stand in local elections in Spain as long as you are registered on the padrón where you live. There couldn’t have been a closer result in Monday’s ‘best 2 scores from 4 with all counting on the par 3s’. With 100 points and winning on countback were Ron Luffman, Graham Murray, Mike Chapman and Nora Betts. In second place and just losing out on the back 9 it was Nick Campbell, Reg Akehurst, Yvonne Phipps and Hendrick Oldenziel. It went to countback again in Wednesday’s Stableford. Dean Tracey took first place with 36 points beating yours truly on the back nine (and I missed a very short putt on the 18th!) Sorry no ‘photo of Dean available at time of going to print. Trevor Pullyblank picked up the bronze medal with 35 points. Just one ‘2’ today which was carded by Pat Cassidy (who went home with more money than the winner!) Por ultimo. For anyone thinking of changing their sport, Don Carter commented, ‘One of the advantages Bowls has over Golf is that you seldom lose a bowling ball’. Pues hasta la semana que viene Peter Reffell

GATLAND REJECTS NEW ZEALAND JOB
Former Welsh head coach and Grand Slam winner Warren Gatland has turned down a strong approach from New Zealand for the vacant head coach role after their disappointing World Cup exit to England. Gatland rejected the job offer because of his loyalty to The British and Irish Lions and feels he owes it to the fans loyalty towards him to lead the team to glory in South Africa.
Gatland stepped down from his role in charge of Wales after guiding them to the semi-finals of the Rugby World Cup and will lead the British and Irish Lions on their 2021 tour of South Africa. He will also coach the Chiefs in Super Rugby from next season and feels committed to the domestic side of the game and openly admitted in a recent interview how much he missed the intensity of the regular games and day to day coaching needed in top-level domestic rugby. But despite the offer from his home nation to apply for the All Blacks job, Gatland felt unable to let down the sides he had already agreed to coach by applying to
take over from Steve Hansen, who had spoken to Gatland about taking over from him as the head coach of the famous All Blacks. The New Zealand born rugby coach spoke to the media on Thursday and said "I was asked to apply for the position now and I've gone back to them to say I won't be putting my name forward, because at this point I've made a commitment to the Chiefs and I've made a commitment to the Lions. They appreciated it, they understood it. I just think it would look poor me applying [for the All Blacks job]. It wouldn't sit well with me, having already made those commitments to the other two parties." The former Wales boss has revealed it is still his dream job and he would love to apply for the job in the future if the opportunity arises and that he doesn't think that turning the job down this time around will affect any future job offer.

ELCHE LOOK TO BUILD ON WIN AT DEPORTIVO The 2019/20 campaign in the Segunda División for Elche Club de Ftbol has been a mixed one so far. October saw a 1-1 home draw to Rayo Vallecano followed by a 2-0 win away at Girona which propelled the side into the top half of the table. After the encouraging start, Pacheta's side saw three defeats in four games including losses against Sporting de Gijn and SD Huesca. The month of November, however, has seen a change in form for Los Franjiverdes with two superb back to back wins. The Segunda División side were involved in a six-goal thriller at The Martnez Valero stadium on November 3rd when they put four goals past Club Deportivo Mirands in a 4-2 victory. Last Sunday things got even better for Elche when they travelled to Deportivo de La Corua. The men in green played Deportivo off the park and were clinical in front of goal in a fantastic 3-1 away win. Gonzalo Verd opened the scoring with a sublime finish on thirteen minutes before Deportivo hit back with a strike from the talented Victor Mollejo on 26 minutes. Elche then came out looking fired up from whatever head coach Pancheta had told them in his half time team talk and their constant pressure paid off when Fidel de la Torre won a penalty on 57 minutes and slotted his spot-kick away to put Los Franjiverdes into a 2-1 lead. The game became more open as the minutes ticked by as Deportivo went in search for an equalizer and that allowed Elche to counter in the final minutes where the ball found Pere Milla who secured the win with three minutes of normal time remaining. Cdiz incredible start to the season means that they are currently nine points clear of second-placed Huesca at the top of the table. Elche sit 9th in the table but only 4 points off Huesca in second place and 3 points behind 3rd place Almera who they will take on this Saturday evening. I will be travelling to the game myself this Saturday with many other British and Irish supporters who have started to enjoy the different feeling of live and local football. This weeks match at The Martnez Valero stadium kicks off at 6:30 PM
