ORIHUELA TO GET MAJOR NEW CYCLE ROUTE Orihuela is to have a 10-kilometre bike path installed around the Monte San Miguel.

The mayor of the municipality, Emilio Bascuñana, made the announcement this week in a press conference accompanied by the councillors for the Environment, Dámaso Aparicio, Urban Transport, José Galiano, Infrastructure, Ángel Noguera and major projects, Sabina-Goretti Galindo. The route forms part of an ambitious plan to offer cycling around the entire centre of Orihuela, making the town

100% accessible to those on twowheels, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) who will pay half of the costs incurred.

The route will give cyclists preference throughout the historic area and will see roads having their speed limit set at a maximum of 30 kilometres per hour, as part of the shared road initiative which is spreading throughout the country. The 10,267-kilometre route will place Orihuela at the head of cities with cyclable projects, according to the

REGION PLEDGES MILLIONS FOR FLOOD AID rehabilitation and, above all, future project” for the Alicante province.

The plan pivots on “structural issues, fundamental for a harmonious and sustainable development, which generates stability, wealth and prosperity for the citizens of the Vega Baja,” he said. The Generalitat will count on this plan with the advice of Jorge Olcina, Professor of Regional Geographic Analysis at the University of Alicante, commissioned for coordination in the scientific and technical fields, and Antonio Alonso, entrepreneur of the municipality of Almoradí, for the interlocution and intermediation between the technical field and the social agents. The commissioners will be responsible for organising action plans for the Vega Renhace Plan and promoting cooperation between administrations and civil society to indicate the needs of the region in order to

enhance the socio-economic development of the area.

The president stressed that the Minister of Justice, Interior and Public Administration, Gabriela Bravo, signed the resolution ordering the payment of 7,360,725.28 euro to 22 municipalities affected by the DANA of September this week. Payment is made after local corporations have submitted the corresponding applications to access these grants. With these grants, the Generalitat assumes the extraordinary expenses that local corporations had to bear during the episode of torrential rains in relief and rescue tasks. GUARDAMAR READY FOR CHRISTMAS One of the most enchanting towns to adorn Christmas decorations must

be Guardamar, and this year is no different, as the town is ready for the celebrations. Councillor for fiestas, María Venerdi Pallarés, is responsible for this year´s transformation and has explained what´s on offer in the town this season.

The Christmas lights have already been switched on, and after a year of planning, the town is ready to welcome residents, visitors and families

from around the local area and beyond, to experience the magic which runs until the end of the season following the Three Kings finale. Santa Claus always plays his part and visits Guardamar, but this year his house has a new location in the Plaza Porticada, where Santa can be visited from 20th until 24th of December, just before he rushes off to deliver the gifts on Christmas night. The Santa Claus parade will herald his arrival on the evening of 20 December at 5:30 p.m.

through social media. The Belén is also located nearby in the same location, the Plaza de la Constitución. The councillor concluded with a welcome

The Three Kings will also be present in the same location, the Plaza Porticada, with their arrival being welcomed in the casino with live musical accompaniment. Their traditional arrival will be celebrated on 5 January at 6:00 p.m., but they will be around from 2 January for their welcoming party. There are also lots of less traditional, but still fun events taking place, such as an -2Escape Room” on 20 December, and a Superhero day on 28th, as well as a Christmas children's workshop in the library on December 11 and a musical theatre on January 2 at the Casa de Cultura. The Christmas tree is already illuminated, visited by thousands of people each year, many of whom take photographs and share the image

to “invite you from the heart to come and discover the magic of Christmas in Guardamar”, and by wishing everyone, “Happy Holidays - Bon Nadal - Merry Christmas - Joyeux Noël - Buon Natale - Frohe Weihnachten.”

“JOHN HAD NO IDEA HIS INVESTMENT FEES WERE SO HIGH!” By Sam Kelly DipPFS, BA (Hons), Managing Partner, Chorus Financial. fee remaining in place, his annual fees have now reduced by 1.6%, meaning John will save significant amounts in fees over the coming years, which will have a positive effect on the growth of his plan.

John came to see me because he wanted a second opinion on an investment plan he had set up when he first moved to Spain 5 years ago. Somehow, despite strong financial markets, John’s portfolio had barely beaten inflation in all that time.

Although past performance can never be a guarantee of future performance, the portfolio we placed him into has substantially outperformed his existing portfolio historically, and I’m confident he’ll see better returns moving forward.

John was helpful enough to bring along all the original paperwork and valuations his IFA had provided since he started his plan, along with some Fund Fact Sheets. The first thing I noticed was that the original recommendation had included a 10-year tie-in and a very high annual bond fee of 0.95%. I also quickly realised that the funds that had been recommended to John had incredibly high annual fees and below-average performance. John’s had been recommended funds that were costing up to 5 times more than the average due to undisclosed fees they were paying to his adviser. Due to the complex way the fees were disguised and layered, John had no idea his investment fees were so high. There were only 2 small reassurances I could make. Firstly, he was not alone – 10,000s of ex-pats in Spain have been set-up with similarly over-priced

portfolios as this is widely practised by firms here. Secondly, it’s a very easy problem to solve. John agreed for Chorus to take over the management of his portfolio, and we immediately sold those over-priced, under-performing funds. Unfortunately, as John had already signed paperwork for that 10-year tie-in 5 years ago, there was nothing I could do about those high bond fees,

and he would continue to pay them for a further 5 years. Chorus clients can now benefit from exactly the same investment bond for just 0.25% per annum, with no tie-in. It’s just a shame he hadn’t sought a second opinion from us before signing up. The good news is that John now has a diverse portfolio of FCA regulated funds, with a strong track record from well-known, UK based investment institutions. Even with that high bond

The exact overall fees you may pay for any investment or pension solution will depend on your specific circumstances so can vary, but Chorus pride ourselves on fair & transparent fees and are now offering Spanish compliant investment bonds and platform options with no tie-in. If you would like me to demonstrate where I can help reduce costs and improve the returns on your existing portfolio or a new recommendation, including QROPS, SIPPs and Spanish Compliant investment Bonds, please call me today for a no-obligation consultation on 664 398 702 or email s.kelly@chorusfinancial.es for more information.

PORN RING SMASHED

Amongst the increasing routes are the four radials of Madrid, the M-12 that connects the capital and the airport, the AP-41 Madrid-Toledo, the AP36 Ocaña-La Roda and the sections of the AP-7 between Cartagena and Vera, as well as the Alicante Ring Road. The AP-7 between Tarragona, Valencia and Alicante, and the AP-4 between Seville and Cádiz are routes that will become free to use.

PORN RING SMASHED Alicante-Elche Airport has maintained growth in terms of passenger numbers in November, increasing by 5%. However, the increase is not as high as the summer months when double figures were recorded. ZERO LIMITS All this week, including through the weekend, the Guardia Civil are aiming to conduct 25,000 daily tests on drivers looking for those who have consumed alcohol or drugs, or both, before getting behind the wheel. In addition to summer, the Christmas period is known to be one of the deadliest times on the roads as

more people believe themselves safe to drive after consuming alcohol or drugs. The maximum permitted limits in Spain for alcohol are lower than the UK, but the only safe limit is zero.

BUS BUST A man was arrested in Benidorm at the weekend after he stole a bus and damaged numerous motorbikes which were parked on the roadside. The reason for the theft is being investigated by the police who say the incident happened late at night, and have footage, which has been shared on YouTube, clearly showing the collisions. The man has no previous history with either the company or buses in general.

FUEL FOOL A 36-year-old thief has been arrested in Albatera for allegedly robbing three petrol stations with a large knife during the second half of November across Alicante and Murcia. The man is accused of entering the petrol

stations and threatening staff and customers with a kitchen knife. As a result of the offences, officers monitored petrol stations awaiting a repeat, which paid off when the man tried his luck once again and was promptly arrested.

PETS ARE FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS

During the holiday season many puppies, kittens and other pets find themselves under the Christmas tree.

HEALTH IS HOLISTIC. When we think of being healthy, we often think of what we eat and drink and exercise, but it is much more than that. Health is holistic. Health is everything that we allow into our lives and everything that we choose. It´s what we eat, drink, how we exercise, what we watch on t.v, what we listen to, who we listen to. Who we surround ourselves with and who we spend time with. Health is our routines, how we manage ourselves in situations and awareness of ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Society can often dictate to us how we live, but surely how we live must be our choice depending on our needs and desires as individuals.

Balance is key to living a healthy life. And to get the balance we must find out who we are at our core. We must step back and observe ourselves as if an outsider. Each second in life we are changing based on our experiences. Our bodies are never the same from one moment to the next and with this in mind, what we have been putting into ourselves needs to change accordingly. If you are stuck in an old place and you don´t feel healthy on any level then it is time to explore yourself. And ask yourself some questions. What am I doing that is not fitting in with my life, as a growing human being? Because ultimately we need to grow, learn and change. If we don´t, we die. We die internally and externally. As we experience life we have to adapt to change and with that change comes the need to learn. You cannot do a job

If we find ourselves in the same place time after time and we are not happy, then we are not living healthy. We are repeating old behaviours based on past situations. We may choose to eat something or go to a certain addiction because it helped us at a difficult time, but if that addiction is costing it us, then it is time to make a better choice. This can be extremely difficult I know.

If you are finding it hard to prioritise your health on any level, then the only thing you can do is welcome the discomfort that is change, to know that everything we are not used to isn´t always bad. It can create amazing results if we persist, and in the persistence finally comes comfort. Not only do we gain comfort but we gain a sense of pride, happiness and achievement. We gain more courage for the next thing, that comes along. Life asks us to choose ourselves, our health and our happiness.

If our soul purpose is expansion, then see this as a challenge to be the best version of yourself you can be. 2020 promises to be a wonderful, happy and healthy year if you allow it.

Our bodies, minds and souls speak to us when we are not healthy and serving them in the right way and if we don´t love ourselves enough or feel deserving of making changes to create better health, we suffer and experience pain. And it only increases.

As we begin to embrace a new year, sit quietly with where you are now and question how you can change, what needs to go and what needs to stay? Who needs to go and who needs to stay? Get curious about newness and embrace learning.

SEAT BREAK SALES RECORD Spanish car manufacturer SEAT, now part of the Volkswagen Group, has broken, for the second consecutive year, its historical sales record. Between January and November 2019, the car company has delivered 542,800 cars worldwide, 10.3% more than in the same period last year. With figures for December sales still pending, SEAT has already exceeded the result achieved throughout 2018, when it sold 517,600 vehicles and broke the record set in 2000. In November, SEAT sales have also registered a new record, after reaching a volume of 44,100 cars, 1.9% more than in November 2018. With this result, the company exceeds its best figure in any month of November, established in 2018 (43,300 units). In the words of the Commercial Vice President of SEAT

In association with

and CEO of CUPRA, Wayne Griffiths, “reaching the highest sales volume in the almost 70 years of SEAT history makes us proud of the work done in recent years and, in particular, in 2019. The challenging economic context has not slowed our second consecutive record and achieve doubledigit growth. CUPRA deliveries have contributed decisively to these results and, between January and November, they have grown by 74.0% compared to the same period of 2018. So far this year, CUPRA has already delivered 22,800 cars.”

16.3%, and has already sold a total of 125,700 vehicles; in the United Kingdom, 8.4% (65,100); in Austria, 6.1% (19,200); in Switzerland, 20.5% (12,000); in Israel, 2.2% (9,100) and in Denmark, 47.7% (6,800).

The global sales record has been sustained, in large part, in countries where SEAT has already surpassed its best trademark in a full year, such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria, Switzerland, Israel and Denmark. In Germany, the first SEAT market, the company grew by

On the other hand, SEAT also achieved very positive results in the Netherlands (10,800; + 23.0%), Portugal (10,400; + 13.3%), Sweden (8,200; + 25.4%) and Ireland (4,100; + 11.4%). In Mexico, SEAT's first market outside Europe, deliveries grew 4.9%, to a total of 22,300 cars.

In addition, SEAT maintains sales in Spain (103,300 vehicles delivered) and expands its leadership in a market that dropped by almost 6%. World deliveries also increase in key markets such as France and Italy. SEAT advances more than 20% in France (34,500; + 20.4%) and almost 30% in Italy (24,500; + 28.4%).

Their "Convertible Automobile Body" had a removable hardtop that could turn a closed car into an open-top touring car, thus becoming one of the world’s first convertibles. off the gas after the first half, NO WAY! There were clearly more goals to be had for the table toppers. Despite Horadada making more of a fist of the game, it honestly was virtually one-way traffic, with numerous chances going begging.

A genuine goal-fest delighted a packed crowd on Sunday when Monte took on 7th placed UD Horadada at the Cauldron in Montesinos. Missing talismanic frontman Gonzalo, you could be forgiven for thinking that this would be a closer encounter.

Horadada, when attacking, were reduced to wayward long-range efforts or crosses that CARLOS (13), in goal, easily dealt with.

This theory was disproved after a flat start by both teams saw a woefully unmarked MORANTE (2) nod home from a corner, to open his account for the season. Minutes later a free-kick out wide right saw a dummy by LUIS (19) allow MANU SANCHEZ (9) to catch the whole opposition defence flat-footed, curling the ball directly in. Barely time to get settled when, following a brief period of Horadada possession, MANU SANCHEZ (9) broke away and audaciously chipped in, doubling his tally. Further pain was heaped on their opponents before the half-hour when ALFREDO (10) copied his teammate to get on the score-sheet. A shell-shocked Horadada huddled together before the subsequent restart, presumably in a post-mortem of their pre-match tactics and how they had gone horribly wrong. Further delay followed, when a local goat wandered onto the pitch, presumably to find out what all the noise was about. If the little get-together (and the goat?) was meant to steady the ship, it clearly didn't work because, before the break, MANU SANCHEZ (9) got his hattrick, again breaking clear and lobbing the inert keeper. HT: CD Montesinos 5 0 UD Horadada A Surely Monte could take their foot

At the other end, the goal harvest continued. MANU SANCHEZ (9) added his 4th with a delightful solo effort. He then wove his way into the box and unselfishly teed up GERMAN (8) to thunder home. GERMAN (8) then bagged his second and his teams 8th with another splendid solo run and finish. It could have been more, Horadada were probably just grateful it wasn't. To be brutally honest, the game, as a contest, was over at half-time(or maybe even on 30 minutes) and Horadada should consider themselves lucky that they weren't on a worse drubbing than they ultimately got. Monte, whilst showing flashes of their capabilities, barely needed to get out of third gear to complete their task. Certainly, they'll not have many easier games than this. Vamos Monte. OVER 40 SCOUTS WATCH WONDERKID HAALAND IN SALZBURG Manchester United's head scout Marcel Bout joined over 40 scouts from top European clubs to watch RB Salzburg's Erling Haaland face Liverpool on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old striker is the most wanted young prospect in world football at the moment and there will be a host of Europe's elite ready to make their move in January. United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, PSG and Napoli have all been linked with the tall target man, who scored eight goals in six Champions League matches this season and has managed 28 league goals in 22 games. Haaland started his career at his hometown club Bryne FK in 2016 and moved to Molde FK the next year where he spent two years. and United

boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave him his first-team debut. In January this year, Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg signed him on a five-year contract. In the 201920 UEFA Champions League, he became the first teenager to score in five consecutive UEFA Champions League matches. Manchester United are front runners for the teenagers signature at the moment and Erling Haaland's father has recently been seen at Manchester United's training ground as the Red Devils ramp up their pursuit of the in-demand Red Bull Salzburg striker. The 6ft 4in striker has an estimated price tag of 85m but that price is in danger of sky-rocketing even higher if clubs wait until the end of the season to make their move.

Due to the heavy rain we experienced, together with the fact we held our AGM there was no report for last week. Welcome to our new committee members Olga and Alan Douglas. However, I can’t let it go unnoticed that Geoff Biggerstaff, together with Dean Tracey (who?) took Friday’s 2 Ball Better Ball with a whopping 45 points! Geoff was one of our founding members some 22 years ago and is ‘hanging up’ his clubs at the end of this year. We wish him well in his ‘retirement’. With a score of 82 points, it was Olga Douglas (she who must now be obeyed)! Dave

Pulling, Ron Phipps and Nora Betts who triumphed in Monday’s 6x6x6. Wednesday’s ‘Joker Stableford’ was a close call with the top 4 all scoring 36 points! After lots of count back Lindsay Forbes was declared the winner followed by Annemarie Weisheit, Ron Phipps and Richard Connock. Just the one ‘2’ today which went to Ron. This

week’s quote belongs to Peter Dobereiner who commented, ‘Half of golf is fun; the other half is putting.’ Pues hasta la semana que viene Peter Reffell

EVERTON AND ARSENAL TO START TALKS WITH ANCELOTTI Carlo Ancelotti's reward for a dominating 4-0 victory against Genk on Tuesday night and qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League was the sack. His club was sitting 8th in Serie A after a tough start to the season and despite winning on Tuesday it seemed the board had made up their mind on changing the head coach in Naples. A Napoli club statement read: "SSC Napoli has decided to revoke the role of first-team coach from Mr Carlo Ancelotti. "The rapport of friendship, admiration

and reciprocal respect between the club, its president (Aurelio De Laurentiis) and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact". Arsenal are currently in search for a new boss after the departure of Unai Emery. The man in temporary charge of the Gunners is club legend Freddie Ljungberg who is in charge of the club on a game to game basis. Arsenal shot-stopper Bernard Leno has said in a press conference this week that Freddie is earning the respect and the praise of the players and that many at the club would be happy if he had the job full time. The Swede is currently 10/1 to become the next permanent boss behind Eddie Howe 6/1 and Carlo Ancelotti 2/1. Arsenal will need to move fast to secure the services of Ancelotti though due to the strong interest being shown by Premier League

The Everton chairman is extremely ambitious so a big name like Ancelotti is very appealing and he comes with a fantastic CV. There are other names in the frame for the job though with club legend David Moyes also in the frame for the vacant manager's position. Duncan Ferguson's instant impact and drive helped win Everton's support with the 3-1 win against Chelsea - but the possibility remains that the more experienced 56-yearold Moyes could yet be invited back. Moyes has been under consideration for a return in some capacity since well before Silva's sacking but Everton's

board hesitated after fans reacted angrily to the possibility. The Scot, however, is still very much in the frame and could return as interim boss until a permanent manager is found or even as the full-time boss. Both Everton and Arsenal will be keen to resolve the situation as soon as possible with both clubs struggling in the league at present. this weekend sees Everton face a Manchester United side high in confidence after back to back wins against Tottenham and Manchester City and Arsenal host Pep Guardoila's Champions Man City at The Emirates.
