COSTA BLANCA TOURISM PLANNED

Cyclists Injured at Weekend

The Alicante Provincial Tourism Board has finalised their 2020 budgets, and have included new plans to try to encourage more tourists to the Costa Blanca.

The director of the Costa Blanca Board of Trustees, José Mancebo, explained the preliminary draft of the budget, amounting to 5,300,000 euro.

The plans include the 141 municipalities that are spread throughout the province, along the popular coastline, and will focus on promoting the area through associations, entities and councils who will be able to apply for grants to help achieve the goals of focussing on public, social, economic or humanitarian interest or of singularity and exceptionality.

Mancebo stressed that in 2020 more than one and a half million euro will be allocated to public grants encouraging free competition - 70% of the budget, compared to 46% of this year. The director explained, "in 2020 we will work on this important trend that we have started and we will strengthen with the consensus of all groups in the coming years, since a nominative

subsidy is not an acquired right." Some of the grants already approved for 2020, those that exceed 20,000 euro, include the Castell de l'Olla de Altea, the Film Festival of l'Alfàs del Pi, and the Habaneras de Torrevieja, as well as the Fira de Cocentaina which has been declared as a Festival of International Tourist Interest. The Costa Blanca Board will allocate its budget, mainly to strengthen national and international promotion in order to retain traditional markets, with special interest in the British to mitigate the effects of the Brexit process, as well as attract new ones. In addition, the provincial tourism agency will focus its promotional efforts on the offer of golf and on promoting sustainability, quality and tourism intelligence throughout the territory.

A cyclist was injured on Sunday morning when his bike was in a collision with a car on the N-332 near Torrevieja. The 112 emergency coordinator reports that the incident occurred at around 10:00 on Sunday morning and so a paramedic ambulance was sent to the scene. The cyclist, a 44-year-old man, was taken to Torrevieja hospital for treatment. In addition, also on Sunday, three more cyclists were injured in the Valencia region on the road between Gavarda and Beneixida. In this incident, which occurred just after noon, one of the cyclists tried to swerve around a truck which was reversing, losing his balance, and falling off his bike. Two other cyclists, who were following close behind, collided with the first. A basic life support (SVB) ambulance was sent to the scene and transferred the cyclists to the Xativa Hospital with multiple injuries.

THE HIGH LINE Cyclists in Alicante will soon be able to ride high in the sky on a proposed raised platform that will link to the beach at Urbanova. The city council approved the work for the remodelling project in the area which will cost over 3 million euro to complete but will Include the construction of the new cycle-pedestrian platform and the conversion of the entire route so that it becomes an urban road with landscaped areas, along with wooden walkways, overlooking the sea.

Tragedy on the Roads A 46-year-old pedestrian died on Monday after being hit by a vehicle on the road from Almoradí to San Bartolomé, in Orihuela. The emergency coordination centre report that the incident occurred at around 6 in the morning. A paramedic ambulance was sent to the scene but medics were only able to confirm the death of the victim at the scene. Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was killed in an incident involving a number of vehicles or the road connecting Alicante with Madrid in the Ocaña area in an incident reportedly caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol. A six-month-old baby meanwhile emerged unscathed from an appalling incident in Valencia in which three other people were injured. The child’s two grandparents were walking with the child’s pram when they were knocked down by a motorbike on Calle Asturias. The two pensioners, aged 71 and 72, and the 34-year-old biker were all injured in the incident.

During

the

distribution,

police

foreigners, where they make up 86% of the population, representing 42 different nationalities. The reform work has cost 272,157.09 euros, of which, one hundred thousand euro was contributed by the Department of Universal Health and Public Health, through a grant awarded for the architectural intervention in premises destined to the provision of health care in the Valencian Community. A GAME-CHANGING YEAR AND A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS! By Sam Kelly DipPFS, BA (Hons), Managing Partner, Chorus Financial.

nothing until you, the client, are comfortable to go ahead, whilst being fully aware of all potential charges. If you ultimately don’t go ahead with a proposal, then it likely means the proposal wasn’t competitive enough, and that is the IFA’s failing, not yours.

I’m writing this article on the morning of the UK General Election results, where we’ve seen The Conservatives secure a parliamentary majority of 364 seats, their strongest since the Thatcher days. In anticipation of this result, we saw GBP strengthening against the EUR, and those gains took a further boost overnight. Regardless of our personal politics, seeing GBP/EUR touch 1.20 levels will be a huge relief for many of those relying on their GBP pensions, savings and investments, although this is still just the start of a very long journey. It’s also been unusual over the last few years to see the British pound and British stocks correlate, but clearly, the markets have more confidence overall this morning, as we’re also seeing real strength in the FTSE 100. By coincidence, we also wake this morning to a positive move in the China-US trade deal, so all in all, as we approach Christmas, there’s certainly a lot more to be merry about than this time last year. Chorus and our clients have also had an incredibly positive year, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who regularly read my column. When I started writing these articles many years ago, I couldn’t quite

anticipate the impact we would have on financial services here in Spain. I think you all know by now how financial advisory companies have operated historically in Spain and continue to do so today. We see people signed up to high fee plans tied for many years, then subsequently placed into overpriced, low-quality investment funds. This has left clients substantially worse off, whilst seeing IFAs pocketing staggering commission – as much as 7-13% on the first day your plan opens!

We’re seeing some evolution in these practices from some companies, but still so far to go. The latest objectional trend we saw in 2019 was the idea of the IFA charging thousands for initial advice before the client is even properly aware of the service offered, or indeed the charges. Imagine if you took your car into the garage for a quote and they said it would cost €1000 to let you know what they’d subsequently charge! An IFA should be confident enough in the value of their proposal to charge

Remember, when you see a Chorus advisor there will be no initial consultation fee, and we can offer you transparent plans with no tie-ins or undisclosed commissions. By using Chorus, clients can have EXACTLY the same tax beneficial products with as much as 75% lower annual fees. Coupled with our market-beating, low-fee fund portfolios, it’s a gamechanging combination. It’s only common sense to at least see what we have to offer before making a decision that could affect you financially for the rest of your life. As we go into 2020 my only hope is that other advisory firms understand that it is not the quality of their brochures or the fanciness of their office furniture that will help you achieve a comfortable income in retirement, but the quality of your portfolio and the value of the recommendation.

Wishing my readers a very Merry Christmas!

SAVE THE PLANET AND THE ANIMALS, RECYCLE THIS CHRISTMAS After the gifts are unwrapped and the dinner is eaten, Christmas often leaves us with a huge amount of rubbish. Heres a guide to reduce and recycle your rubbish over the Christmas period. Over Christmas, our waste volumes double and the majority of our Christmas waste is wrapping paper. But did you know that there are many sustainable wrapping paper alternatives to help us reduce waste? • D r a w s t r i n g style cloth bags can be purchased in many different shapes and sizes and with a range of beautiful patterns. These bags are ideal for gifts and can be reused in the future. • Old maps, newspapers and comics can make beautiful and interesting wrapping paper. These are very easy to get hold of and the options are endless. • Dish towels are another creative way to wrap a gift. Simply wrap your gift in the new towel and tie together with a piece of ribbon or twine. This unique presentation gives your loved one an extra gift that will get much use. • Decorative boxes are wonderful

to put gifts in, they can be later used for other purposes around the house.

• Baskets and mason/glass jars are ideal for an edible gift and can be decorated with reusable ribbon. • Save your Christmas cards each year. You can cut them and make gift tags for your presents. • Donate your unwanted gifts to charity shops. Some new gifts can be used as raffle prizes for charities to raise money for worthy causes. Or simply donate your old and unwanted items to charity to make room for the new. • Bring your empty glass bottles and jars to recycle containers. Over Christmas, we go through huge amounts of glass bottles and jars that can all be recycled. Don't forget tin cans, plastic and cardboard can be recycled too. Find out where your local recycling containers are located. • Consider getting a garden compost bin. These bins are great and get much use over the holiday period. Save your fruit and vegetable cuttings and waste for the compost bin to help make your garden bloom in the Springtime.

THE LATEST RESCUE, A LOVEBIRD Meet Umi a peach-faced lovebird. Umi was rescued from the streets locally when he landed on a lady's shoulders whilst she was outside in the garden. Little Umi was most likely an escapee or has been abandoned, but sadly no owner has been located. Sadly every year lovebirds and other domestic birds are found on the streets. This little guy was rather lucky as they don't do well in the wild and are often killed by larger birds or struggle to find food in the wild. Umi is now living at Happy Pets and enjoys chirping to music and getting head rubs! Every animal deserves a second chance.

ADOPT US Tiger and Puma are two brothers who were rescued from the streets during the summer. They were placed into foster and have grown into beautiful, healthy kittens. Both brothers are searching for a loving forever home. It would be a dream to find them a home together as they are a bonded pair. But they can be adopted separately. Both will be fully vaccinated and neutered before adoption. For more information contact Happy Pets happypetsrescue@hotmail.com

POSITIVE THOUGHTS POSITIVE MIND I do not need to tell you that we are coming up to the time of year when things can be a bit stressful, especially if you are trying to hold down a job, wind things up for Xmas, buy presents, juggle finances and come together with family, loved and challenging! With this in mind, I wanted to help you through it all and give you some awareness to not only get you through the festive period but throughout your life. Our mind is a powerful part of us and it can often become something of a challenge, particularly if we have had some traumatic or stressful events,

which most if not all of us have. The mind has two compartments that are vital for managing ourselves emotionally. The conscious part, which I like to call the gatekeeper, which absorbs events as they happen in realtime and the subconscious, which not only manages every part of our bodies functions but also keeps a track of every event and how it affected us. The subconscious most significant role

is to keep us alive and safe, from harm and death. To keep ourselves in a positive place we must learn to master the mind, by consciously observing what we are allowing into it and what we believe to be true, at any given time based on individual events. The subconscious part of our minds brings a challenge to this as it remembers events and then replays them, based on previous events of a similar nature. For example, if you had a bad accident in a car (This would obviously traumatise you) and then had an incident afterwards where you were in a car and someone may be pulled out on you or swerved and came close, your subconscious would perceive you being at risk, remember the previous accident and create in you feelings of the past. And also get you out of the situation as quickly and as is safe as possible (And rightly so) However your physical body would respond by remembering the trauma of the first accident and give you feelings similar to that event. So you may experience, intense fear rising, a more rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath and all sorts of other negative emotions and obviously, this wouldn´t be a pleasant experience! The longer we live the more we go through and this is how we become more fearful and develop anxiety. It's

all based on perception and the past. So now you can see why managing the mind is such an important part in our lives, especially if we want to live fully and courageously, without allowing fear to overwhelm us. It is essential we see each new event as just that and not allow our subconscious to play out a previous outcome. Every experience we have is a new one and should be treated as so. To do this we have to be aware of our triggers, what happens to put us in an anxious and fearful state and then learn to manage it, with new eyes. When we have a new challenge we must choose to believe in the 50% chance it will turn out well. We must focus on thinking and even imagining the situation to be a good one. Now I know this may sound difficult, but like everything in life that has value, it must be worked at. We should practice daily imagining good things and even when things don´t turn out quite as planned, we can still stay positive in accepting things are always working out as they should. Remembering not everything is meant for us. And that there are always doors opening, when we don´t expect them to and things popping into our reality that surprise us. Having a positive, optimistic mind serves us in not only how we

by Nicola Farnhill Connected to Self

experience life, but how we experience it. Positivity and optimism equate to our happiness. So please, whatever

you are going through now or fearing. Try to imagine the best outcome for all. Try to feel good about what is coming. Because at the end of the day, it´s worth the effort. N e w y e a rs resolutions

Heading into 2020, like every New Year will bring us all into contemplation. What has passed and what is to come. We will have no doubt about feeling like there are things we need to leave behind and things we want to bring in too. So the real question here is ´What do we actually want in our lives and most importantly how do we want to feel?´ I would like to live with a more open heart and be less judgemental. And also achieve more in my work, serving others and helping them open up to having the courage to embrace what they want, instead of settling for less. So how do enter in the New Year, knowing with certainty that we can make this one a great one? To start with we need to spend some time looking at areas of our lives that are lacking and here are a few ideas to get you on track. To live a more fulfilling and happier life we need to address our own needs, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. We need to look at these things to have balance in our lives after all balance is something we all crave, it gives us the ability to find success, satisfaction and feelings of growth.

So it essential that we keep learning. Whether it is something of interest regarding a hobby or for our work. Learning gives us more skills, it makes us more creative and it makes us more interesting. Through knowledge we can go out into the world and interact more on a personal level and in a world that is diminishing in personal interaction, social skills are vital to the continuation of mentally, healthy, human race. Physically Our bodies need to be challenged too, not only through exercise but also through nutrition. I recently watched a video in which a doctor brought up the topic of diet, he raised the question ´Why are we the only species that goes on a diet? ´Every other animal has a diet that they eat and what keeps them naturally healthy. So why do we not know and understand our natural diet? Hmmm, something to think about?

Mentally

With so many different options of diet and exercise, don´t we owe it to ourselves to explore the options and find what is right for us as unique individuals?

As human beings, we need to keep our brains active, if not they become dull and stagnant and also destructive.

Daily exercise is essential to keep us fit and healthy and a balanced diet is required to make sure we can supply

our bodies with all they need to function at a good level. Emotionally How open is your heart? Are you closed to loving? Do you love yourself enough to give yourself what you need? Or are you open, loving and giving? Having kindness and empathy and compassion for others helps us stay connected and connected we must stay. For inclosure, the world will become more closed and cold. And I think we have seen enough of that already. As a person, you may not think you can make a difference in the world, but each time you love and give you make a difference. Every time you send a message of love or acceptance, you are opening the heart of another. Every time you give yourself some kindness and forgiveness you are loving yourself. Now I am not saying you shouldn´t steer yourself away from those that wish to hurt you, but you can move away from them peacefully, sending the hope for a happier and peaceful life themselves. You do not need to engage in negative emotions. This will only serve you with feelings of discomfort and less peace within. Spiritually Living a spiritual life means being connected with your inner source. Now, this may seem a bit far out, but hear

11

me out. Your intuition is connected to your inner source, it´s the feeling inside that tells you right from wrong. If you have lost this feeling then one of the easiest things to do is to practice meditation. Through meditation we allow ourselves to be quiet, to allow the inner voice to speak its wisdom. To trust ourselves to make the right decisions and to allow ourselves to be more accepting of our shortcomings. You see when we live constantly in the external world, always looking for answers outside of ourselves, they are never our own answers and this how we have come to live in the world we live in. A world where we follow others to not stand out and be seen as disruptive, to fit in. If you want to make next year the best one yet, why not look at all these aspects and ask yourself, on a scale of 1 to 10 how am I doing in each category? When you have the answers, see which ones you have scored the lowest and find ways in which to improve them. You will be surprised at how your life becomes happier, abundant and successful.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

SURVIVING THE FESTIVE SEASON

by Nicola Farnhill Connected to Self 10. Get plenty of sleep, so the festive season leaves you feeling refreshed and revived, for the New Year ahead.

I had to laugh when I started this article today, as I thought about our physical health in conjunction with Christmas and the New Year. For most of us, it is a time of indulgence of eating more and maybe drinking more than is normal. It´s a time for putting the scales away, partying and celebrating. And maybe not so much considering our health.

than I usually do and as we all know there is usually a richness about Christmas food and drink that we just can´t ignore and so I thought I would give you my ten top tips for getting through the festive season alive and well!

For me, not so much, I´ve done my share of partying and I tend to utilize the holiday season, for kicking back and relaxing with close family and friends, thinking about loved ones that are no longer with me. And making those long-distance phone calls to special friends that I haven't seen for a while. I also like to take time for long walks and maybe an odd stop off for a beer and tapas along the way!

1. When out on your Christmas do or partying try to drink a glass of water with or in between each alcoholic beverage. Water re-hydrates us and also dilutes down the alcohol and helps our liver cope with the overload.

6. Plan to have a day off between parties, where you know there will be an excess of food and drink.

2. Eat a meal that is packed with carbohydrates before drinking, to line your stomach and help to soak it all up.

7. Dance. Dancing burns off those extra calories you may have taken in and also gives you that feelgood factor.

3. When eating from a buffet, try to fill half of your plate with vegetables and salad, leaving a small space for those naughty but nice goodies.

8. Make love. Christmas is the perfect time to spend with your loved one and sex is also a great calorie burner. So get saucy!

4. Take a walk after a heavy meal, to help your digestion and work off those extra calories.

9. Plan with or get a gym buddy and go to the gym, Why wait for the New year?

But I will still certainly be eating more

5.

Share the choccies.

Sharing your food means you only eat half the amount! And sharing is caring!

Dear Davina... Dear Davina,

So why not have the intention of making this Christmas a healthier one, every choice we make reflects on us and creates long-lasting effects. Remember what they say... ‘A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips´ But jokes aside, Make sure you stay safe, happy and healthy. And enjoy the festive season.

How To Make An Epic

Christmas Dinner

If you are making the Christmas dinner this year and are not looking forward to it. Then follow the delightful menu below and you will not fail. Whether you are an experienced cook or more of a ´let´s get a takeaway´ kind of person, this foolproof guide will see you sailing through the day and have your guests booking their place at your table for next year!

we can carve the breast cutting deeply into the meat horizontally, then by placing the knife towards the front and the breast bone and slicing about a quarter of an inch per slice, so the slices come away cleanly and without any bits. Stuffing • 1 large onion, peeled and finely chopped • 1tbsp vegetable oil • 1tbsp finely chopped sage • 3oz white breadcrumbs • 1 beaten Egg • Salt and pepper

Soften the onion in the oil, then mix with the sage, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper. Bind together with the egg and shape into balls.

Roasting Heat your over to 180c degrees and take away any giblets from inside the turkey. Baste generously with butter and season with salt and pepper Pop the turkey into a good-sized roasting tin, breast side up and place in the middle of the over. Cook for 40 minutes per kilo and if more than 4 kilos, cook for 45 minutes per kilo after that. Check to make sure the meat is cooked through by placing a knife into the leg and see if the juices run clear. Take Turkey out of the oven and allow to rest for half an hour or so, allowing it to continue cooking. Carving First remove the legs, slicing down and slightly under. Next remove the wings, the same. Now

Grab a large bag of Brussel sprouts and peel off any dirty and rough leaves, then cut into halves. Blanch in boiling, salted water for around 2-3 minutes and drain. Heat some olive oil and fry off some chopped Pancetta, until slightly crispy. Add the sprouts to the Pancetta and fry again for another 2-3 minutes, tossing now and then.

The Turkey A lot of people like to get a frozen turkey in advance, but for taste, a fresh turkey is the best option. Size-wise you need to be thinking around 2 to 2.5 kg for 4/6 people and add an extra kilo per 2 persons. Of course, any leftovers can go towards a tasty Turkey curry or sandwiches with your favourite pickle.

No Christmas dinner is complete without Brussel sprouts and they are perfect with Pancetta

Roughly chop a handful of chestnuts, add them to the sprouts and pancetta, mix gently and squeeze over the zest of half a lemon.

Preheat the oven to 190c

Apple and cranberry sauce • 500g of cranberries • 2 Bramley apples • 150g golden caster sugar • 1 cinnamon stick

Parboil washed, King Edward potatoes in salted water and drain in a colander, then shake around a bit to roughen the edges.

Place all the ingredients into a pan with a drop of water. Pop on heat and bring to the boil, then simmer until the fruit softens and thickens.

Add about 5 tbsp of duck fat into the roasting tin and heat up in the preheated oven.

Turkey gravy • 4 cups of turkey stock from the roasting tin or chicken stock from cubes. • Half a cup of butter cut up into 8 pieces • Half a cup of all-purpose flour

Roast in a tin for 30 minutes. The perfect roast potatoes

Place the potatoes in the fat once heated and sprinkle with thyme, sprigs of sage and rock salt and place in the oven and cook until golden and crunchy, turning with a fish slice halfway through cooking. The Vegetables Choose your favourite vegetables and steam in an electric or hob, based steamer making sure to cook through, but not overcook, making them soggy. About 12 minutes. The Brussel sprouts

Strain the turkey stock. Then melt the butter in a pan and season with black pepper. Slowly whisk in the flour, until its fully absorbed. Then gently mix in the turkey stock over a gentle heat. Serve all together and enjoy! Merry Christmas!!

to the Food Bank Foundation to be distributed among the most needy during the Christmas Campaign of this 2019. The results could not have been more satisfactory. The winning couple, formed by journalists Fernando Carríon and Alfonso García, obtained an average consumption of 4.0 litres / 100 km, an absolute record figure that will deliver just over 2,000 kilos of food. The test ran along a route with real traffic of 57.4 km with departure and finish at a farm located in Tres Cantos, on the outskirts of Madrid, passing through intermediate points through Colmenar Viejo and San Agustín de Guadalix.

SAN JAVIER WASTE YOUR TIME is a real DON´T off-road series, not only by design and performance, but also by consumption and ecology.

Suzuki Motor Ibérica, with this year's MOVIL delivery, has donated a total of 968 193 035 7,500 kilograms to the Food Bank Foundation, a small grain of sand that helps the food bank serve more than 166,000 people (10,767 infants) every year, according to 2018 data.

For what is now the fourth consecutive year, Suzuki Motor Iberian has organised Litros X Kilos, a solidarity campaign which aims to provide food for those in need at Christmas. The idea is simple, challenging motoring experts to reduce their fuel consumption, under real conditions, of the Suzuki Vitara 1.4 VVT 4x4 140 hp, which is set at 6.1 litres / 100 km. The test therefore has a double challenge and a double benefit. On the

one hand, it helps demonstrate the driving skills for achieving the lowest possible consumption, and on the other, the reward of achieving a higher donation, thus helping the food banks and the environment at the same time. Then, the difference between the approved average consumption and that obtained during the campaign is multiplied by 100 and by the number of participating cars and becomes kilos of staple food, which will be delivered

The winners took a total of 58 minutes and 45 seconds to complete the route, marking an average speed of 58.7 km / h. It should be noted that in this edition, the result was challenging, since no less than 4 couples also obtained a consumption of 4.0 litres, although with a little more time.

Before the pneumatic tyre, wheels were often made of solid rubber. This made travel a rather bumpy experience.

MOTORING HISTORY Samuel Firestone We are going way back to 1868 for our first trip through motoring history as on this day, 20 December, Harvey Samuel Firestone, founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, one of the first global makers of car tyres and an important contributor to North American economic growth in the 20th century, was born. Firestone reportedly had driven the first buggy fitted with tyres in Detroit whilst working as a manager for an uncle’s buggy-manufacturing firm. When that business folded, Firestone moved to Chicago and, with partners,

In 1940, the 1,000,000th Volkswagen Kubelwagen was produced. Commonly known as the "Tub" car, it was mostly used for rail, industrial or agricultural use before becoming a light military vehicle designed by Ferdinand Porsche and built by Volkswagen during World War II for use by the German military (both Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS). The Tub was based heavily on the Volkswagen Beetle, it was prototyped as the Type 62, but eventually became known internally as the Type 82. As we began talking about tyres, or tires to use the American spelling for a moment, and we have touched on WWII, it seems poignant to point out that on this day in 1945 in America tyre rationing ended. Controls had been implemented in 1941 as part of the war effort with Tire Rationing Boards issuing certificates for tires or retreading upon application. The Chase : Bloopers

Gavin and Stacey

Kylie’s Secret Night

If you want a laugh this Christmas Eve, make sure you don’t miss The Chase: Bloopers. With outtakes and bloopers galore, all the bits you were never meant to see and some more bits you’ll want to see again, this hour long blooper and outtake special will be crammed with laughs, presented by Bradley Walsh and featuring The Governess, The Beast, The Vixen, The Sinnerman and The Dark Destroyer.

One-off festive edition of the comedy, which returns after a nine-year break. The Shipmans travel to Wales to spend Christmas with the Wests, but for Gavin and Stacey, parenthood continues to present them with several challenges, and their `baby’ is now nine. Smithy also continues to commit to his fatherly role, making the journey to Barry at weekends and every second Wednesday to see 12-year-old Neil the Baby. Nessa has adopted her own style of mothering, while Pam, Mick and Gwen have become the epitome of doting grandparents.

Fresh from her Glastonbury legends slot triumph and a raft of soldout tour dates throughout the world, this one-off sees an audience arrive for what they believe is a Kylie-themed fan extravaganza hosted by Alan Carr. They’re actually going to be spending a secret evening with the lady herself. Over the course of the show, Kylie Minogue will treat her guests to the ultimate thank you through heartfelt conversation with Alan, memorable performances, surprise moneycan’t-buy gifts, hidden camera VTs and funny stunts.

Alan Carr’s Celebrity Re-Play 2019

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

From Stormzy smashing Glastonbury to Boris Johnson smashing parliament, from England almost winning the Rugby World Cup to RuPaul finally bringing Drag Race to the UK, 2019 has been one hell of a year. So what better way to celebrate than with Alan Carr’s Celebrity Re-Play 2019, the fun, celebrity-filled, end-of-year show that we all deserve.

The world is astounded when Willy Wonka, for years a recluse in his factory, announces that five lucky people will be given a tour of the factory, shown all the secrets of his amazing candy, and one will win a lifetime supply of Wonka chocolate. Nobody wants the prize more than young Charlie, but as his family is so poor that buying even one bar of chocolate is a treat, buying enough bars to find one of the five golden tickets is unlikely in the extreme. But in movieland, magic can happen. and Charlie gets the chance of a lifetime.

BBC Two announces Baby Chimp Rescue, a threepart natural history series. Baby Chimp Rescue will follow life in a home for orphaned baby chimpanzees run by wildlife vet Jimmy Desmond and his wife Jenny. The Desmonds started with just two rescued baby chimps, saved from the illegal pet trade, but now their home is bursting at the seams with 21 orphans to look after. The chimp babies run riot around the compound they share with a pack of adopted dogs, as they learn to play with their new adopted siblings.

MOODY BLUES

Father Brown returns for series eight on BBC One in 2020. Mark Williams resumes his role as the crime-busting charismatic priest in the Cotswolds. Based on the character made famous from GK Chesterton’s short stories, the eighth series sees Father Brown investigate the murder of an eccentric beekeeper, step in when Mrs McCarthy’s family reunion is threatened by a fortune-teller’s predictions and race against time to save Bunty from the hangman’s noose when she is tried for murder.

Starting in the New Year, newly promoted Detective Chief Superintendent Elizabeth Bancroft (Sarah Parish) returns heading up a newly merged police service. Revered by colleagues and delivering impressively low crime figures, Bancroft is riding a professional high. However, this success comes at a great cost as she’s left isolated and estranged from her beloved son Joe and facing increasing pressure from her dangerous pact with crime boss Daanish Kamara. When a disturbing double murder brings her personal and professional life crashing together, she is forced to confront a chilling new enemy.

THE DANCE GOES ON

RNA Christmas Party

At least for one local resident, the dance will never stop. Barbara Gurr loves to dance and will soon be in her ninth decade of dancing, having started at the tender age of five-years-old with the Glenlyn School of Dance in Forest Hill. Her dancing school was named 'The Tiller Girls' and started performing at Lewisham Town Hall. They went on to play many venues including the London Palladium. It was here where Barbara met many stars of the time including Shirley Bassey, Bruce Forsyth, Alma Cogan, Morecambe & Wise... the list goes on. Having married in 1988 in Bideford, North Devon, Barbara eventually retired with the husband to Spain.

Over the years, Barbara has received many medals and awards for dance, and has no plans to stop!

We all say Go Barbara!

LAS RAMBLAS GOLF SOCIETY Results for w/c 16.12.19 Having sat through the final of ‘Strictly’ on Saturday evening I thought Monday would have been a good day to play the ‘1-2-3 Viennese Waltzer’. However, someone must have viewed something they found a bit disappointing as it was the ‘32-1 Dusty Bin’ that was contested. With a very credible 85 points, it was Ron Luffman, Nora Betts, Mike Chapman (yawn) and John Drakesmith who took the top slot. There is a rumour going around that next year’s presentation day will be held at Mike’s house!

favourite Carlos Lorente to come back into the fold sooner rather than later if you're reading this Carlos? He said with Gonzalo and Carlos upfront and the wide players we have, we would score a lot more goals, a LOT more!) and possibly another wide midfielder to bolster the ranks. We'll obviously await news of his efforts in this with great interest. Over the long four-week fiesta break, Sr Santander will continue to work the squad hard, up to three times a week, to ensure fitness levels are maintained ready for the final half of this, hopefully, promotion-winning season. We then asked him if he and the players were aware of the support given to the team on match days by the Full Monte group of supporters, he said he definitely was and added the support we receive especially away from home is incredible and something that is perhaps not expected at this level of football he added

Santa came early for John Dobson on Wednesday as he was the only player to card a ‘2 ’in our weekly Stableford (being from Yorkshire he didn’t buy the beers though!) In very cold and windy conditions the scoring was never going to be that high and the top 3 places were all shared on just 31 points. After countback, it was Nigel Price who took gold followed

The players and coaches fully appreciate this commitment and it helps to motivate them to perform better.

THE BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT

The Pride of Spain award-winning Playa Flamenca Walking Football team were Given the very best Christmas Present, when they were granted acceptance to play their home games back at the C.D.M. Sports ground where they used to play before the ground was closed.

The club has also lowered their entry age to over 50’s.

They have arranged to play on Tuesday’s with kick-off time at 4:30pm from January 7th 2020 until further notice.

This is a very good opportunity to get fit for the New Year, as no experience or skill needed but it helps just 2 left feet for the over 50’s

So if you are interested to play or watch come along, or contact the club secretary vickyhillspain@gmail. com The club also offers a superb social section for wives and wags.

So, the message is clear, keep supporting and following the team, it really does make a difference. Finally, our excellent talk heading for a close, we asked Sr Santander what his thoughts were on promotion and, should this happen, what changes/ improvements did he think the squad would need to succeed at a higher level? Being a typical football manager, he told us firstly that he takes nothing for granted (not least his own confirmation in the role of manager) and that, along with the players, he takes each game

as it comes. A cliche perhaps, but a sign that this is a manager who, whilst having a clear and obvious passion for the game and his team, has his feet firmly planted on the ground. He told us I think there is not a lot that would need to change with this squad except perhaps two or three more quality players, what we would need is, the commitment to train harder and more frequently in order to achieve our full potential. This is the important part if we are to progress. If we can all commit to this, we could be challenging the top of the table. So, in summary, we thanked Sr Santander for giving us his valuable time, after his long workday, to talk to us. He finished by telling us I would personally like to genuinely thank all of our supporters as well as the club committee for their dedication and support. My impressions, having spoken to him for the first time? He is a man who is very passionate about the game and has a very fixed way of how he wants it to be played, as he stated in his inaugural comments upon joining the club, he likes his football to be quick, inventive and on the ground, with passing and moving speedily being used to overcome opponents. He clearly prizes hard work, commitment and application above all other traits, from his players I think I speak for a lot, if not all of our Full Monte supporters when I say we have enjoyed watching his team so far this season and we look forward, hopefully to getting the rewards that we all believe that we should get. FROM THE DUGOUT

We kicked off by asking him what had pleased him most about the team's performances so far this season. “I am most pleased with the camaraderie in the squad as a whole, they work and train well together. Also, they have developed a winning mentality, which is important if we are not playing to our strengths all the time.” He added, “the pre-season was a difficult test for us, we were playing teams of higher ability and so it was important that we work hard and for each other to overcome the challenges of these games.” We then pointed out that our largely British pea prefer their football to be played with passion and a more physical approach, did he appreciate this? He said he did, but added it is important

Fallon Serrock made darts history when shet beat Ted Evetts 3-2 earlier this week. Her victory meant that she became the first woman to beat a man in the PDC World Championship. Fallon, who is 25 years old threw six 180’s and her average was 91.12 in her first-round win. Her final throw of a double 18 caused the crowd in Alexandra Palace to explode with cheers. Fallon was lost for words when she was on stage afterwards being interviewed. She said, “I’m speechless, I don’t know what to say!” She then continued “I feel really happy because I have proved something for women’s darts, that women and play the men and beat them. So fingers crossed this is a move in the right direction. I’m over the moon, I can’t believe it!”

to control this physicality and ensure that it is with done with skill as well as passion.
