CLEANER BEACHES IN ORIHUELA THIS SUMMER who will strengthen the cleanliness throughout the municipality for the summer season and the many festivities in the town and districts,” added Aparicio.

A new contract has also been awarded for the future collection of seaweed from the beaches.

To coincide with the official summer season starts this weekend, Orihuela is going to benefit from a reinforced cleaning team this year, making the beaches even tidier than ever before. The cleaning department will have a total of 25

workers exclusively dedicated to cleaning the beaches, supported by a tractor unit. Of course, they wouldn´t be required at all if everyone took their rubbish away with them, but none the less, they will be on hand to clean up after the messier ones.

The councillor in charge, Dámaso Aparicio, explained in a press conference that 11 of the team will be engaged in beach cleaning and emptying the bins in the mornings, 12 will be responsible for the surrounding area, and 2 will be assigned to a review

shift in the afternoons. The 25 workers are from a private company, Actúa Servicios y Medio Ambiente SL, which was awarded the beach cleaning contract last year. “This external personal increase joins the hiring of 39 workers

Although many environmentalists believe it should be left alone as it helps aerate the sea and give it natural cleanliness, the almost 100,000 euro contract has been awarded to a firm, Agrhimasa Mediterránea SL, to collect it until next year, with the possibility of extending the contract for another year. Those not going to the beach will be pleased to know that the team responsible for

cleaning the streets will also be strengthened, especially those who collect garden waste, a problem which has been ongoing for many years. From Monday, an additional collection truck will join the fleet that is already operating in the area, and will be supported by two smaller vehicles dedicated to garden waste.

DOG ON IT´S BEACH TIME Summer is upon us and many people are already taking to the beaches in the area, but what about those who want to take their dog along for the fun in the sun, where do they go? Well, the good news is, Red Dog has just published this year´s top spot dog beach list, and some local to us have made the grade. According to Red Dog, 2018 was a great year for dog lovers to be in Spain, with more than 10 beaches in Spain being opened up to our furry friends, including in Torrevieja. In fact, it was Andalusia and Valencia where the majority of beaches were converted to dog-friendly spaces after the Coastal

Act amendment from a few years ago banned dogs from the beach. Catalonia takes the credit for having the first doggy beach, located at La Rubina in Empuria Brava. IN Alicante, the top dog

beaches listed are in El Campello, Villajoyosa, Denia, Altea, Santa Pola, and Torrevieja. In Santa Pola, Caleta dels Gossets is one of the favourites thanks to its combination of soil, sand and rock formations. A little bit further south, in Murcia, Playa de Las

Moreras in Mazarrón offers a pristine beach with no services, but excellent for a fun day. There are many more beaches around the country now open to dogs, but it´s best to check in your location before taking your pooch to the beach. There are even many more hotels and guest houses now which are classing themselves as “ p e t- f r i e n d l y ” , cashing in on providing a much-needed service. If you´re a cat lover however, then we´ll leave it up to you to tell us where you take your puddy, as for now it is only dogs that seem to be the focus of the petbased fun times.

ORIHUELA MARKET MOVING The weekly Saturday market in Orihuela is set to move to a new location, with the plan being in place for it to be settled in by 13 July. The councillor currently responsible for the municipal markets, Dámaso Aparicio, announced the move this week, after meeting with representatives of the stallholders and other council officials. The reason is to provide more space for the market and to turn around dwindling sales

caused by a lack of space when the fixtures in preparation for the Moors and Christians event in July are installed. From Saturday, 13 July, the market will relocate to Marqués de Molins, which, according to Aparicio, is as a “response made by the various merchant’s associations and we have the approval of the Local Police for this timely transfer, with the aim of the market on July 13 to function normally.”

BEACH CAR THIEVES CAUGHT The Guardia Civil has arrested two men for allegedly breaking into cars parked in various car parks and beach areas of Guardamar and stealing their contents. The two Algerians, aged 32 and 47, generally committed the robberies during lunch hour, taking advantage of the influx of cars using restaurant and hotel car parks at that time of the day.

The Guardia Civil were already aware of a high number of car break-ins that had taken place under similar circumstances in May and had been given a description by different victims of what had taken place. Officers on the lookout became suspicious of a vehicle and its occupants who remained for some time inside the car

park of a well-known restaurant in El Campico, close to the beach. The vehicle had entered the car park and headed towards the back end, where the two occupants began to closely watch the other parked cars, which is when the Guardia Civil officers decided to intervene. On searching their car, officers found a large screwdriver, a portable,

flashing, blue police light and a device in the form of an inflatable bag used to open car doors without causing any damage whatsoever. The two thieves, who have a long list of previous convictions for robbery, have been released with charges until their trial.

CORREFOCS IN ROJALES Not for the fainthearted! If you love all kinds of fireworks, loud bangs, whizzing noises, fire, heat, strange medieval music and large crowds of people running about in different directions, then you’ll not want to miss out on the Hogueras fiestas in Rojales. Next Friday 21 June will see many local towns burning their Hogueras that have been on display since the end of this week. In Rojales, the actual setting the effigies on

fire – the cremà – will take place at 23.00h. Nevertheless, an hour before, at 22.00h, there will be a Correfocs, which literally translated means ‘fire-runs’. The Correfoc is a Catalán tradition during the summer solstice fiestas where a group of people dress as devils and light fireworks that are fixed on devils’ pitchforks or strung above the route. Dancing to the sound of a rhythmic drum group, they set off their

fireworks amongst the crowds of spectators. The spectators that participate dress to protect themselves against small burns and attempt to get as close as possible to the devils, running with the fire. Other spectators will watch from “safe” distances, rapidly retreating as necessary. If this event appeals to you, we suggest you take earplugs with you.

ACCESSIBLE ISLAND Thanks to the investment and commitment by local shipping firm Transtabarca, people with reduced mobility may now be able to take a trip to the island of Tabarca, as one of the boats has been adapted to accommodate wheelchairs. The maiden

voyage of the adapted ship took place this week from Santa Pola, with the catamaran taking a wheelchair-

bound passenger over to the island and back. The public service starts on Sunday, with a platform available to lift the wheelchair onto and off the boat, and anchor points to ensure it doesn´t move during the trip across the water.

CRUZ ROJA OPENS PUBLIC SERVICE POINT ON THE COAST Residents and visitors on the Orihuela Costa will now find it much easier to access the many services offered by the Cruz Roja charity thanks to the new service point that has finally been set up and inaugurated. With offices in many other areas of the province, including Torrevieja and San Fulgencio, it had long been hoped that one would be established along the coast in Orihuela. Finally, thanks to the town hall of Orihuela and in particular the Department of Citizenship, the Cruz Roja are able to receive

CYCLING AROUND ORIHUELA A new list of tourist routes that take in the beauty of Orihuela has been published in time for the summer, leading you through the area by bicycle. The councillor for Tourism, Sofía Álvarez, presented the latest incarnation of the cycletourism map this week, offering a total of 10 routes departing from the City of Orihuela, and around the municipality. “This is a commitment to cycling and the enhancement of Orihuela as a tourist destination prepared for this type of transport linked to sustainable mobility,” said Alvarez. It is a unique map, in which, on each route, you can differentiate

the roads with colours based on difficulty and safety, with information on the length, gradient and route, all shown on the map, as well as the

main tourist attractions of the municipality. Orihuela will continue to be promoted in local, national and international fairs as a

cycle-friendly place, in the hope of encouraging more tourists who use this form of transport during their stay. A representative of

URBAN ART IS STILL ART For some, it might seem like nothing more than painting on a wall, but for others, it is an art gallery in the street, and it is the latter concept that the Local Development Agency is promoting through a new graffiti tourism route in Torrevieja.

The students of the T`Avalem II project have created a special tourist route that allows observers to visit the ten works of street art completed for the first edition of the contest “Embellishment Urbano”, that the Youth Council organised in the spring.

The first tour took place this week, but the second is taking place next Thursday, for which

a minibus will guide visitors through the route.

If you do fancy taking the tour, or just for more information, you can email graffititorrevieja@ gmail.com. The works are from the final of the Urban Beautification competition that was held in Torrevieja in April, with 8 artists

from around the country taking part. The works adorned facades between Torrevieja and La Mata, with the winner, entitled, “No se Toca”, or “Do not touch”, painted by Jacobo Palos Wey on Calle San Pascual.

CARMINA BURANA AT THE AUDITORIUM Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is one of the most popular pieces of the classical music to be performed across the globe and tomorrow night (Saturday), you can catch it being performed by Murcia’s Symphonic Orchestra at the auditorium in Torrevieja. Carmina Burana is a

scenic cantata composed by the German composer Carl Orff in 1935 and 1936.

It is based on 24 of the poems found in the medieval collection Carmina Burana and its full title in Latin is Carmina Burana: Cantiones profanæ

cantoribus et choris cantandæ comitantibus instrumentis atque imaginibus magicis (“Songs of Beuern: Secular songs for singers and choruses to be sung together with instruments and magic images.”). Orff always believed that music should be combined with other forms of art such as dance, poetry or theatre, in a way that all senses are activated. For this reason, he claimed that his cantata Carmina Burana should be seen as well as heard. For tomorrow’s performance, the

BOGUS GAS INSPECTOR NABBED Thanks to the quick thinking of a Belgian resident of Torrevieja and the efficiency of the Guardia Civil, a 24-year-old Algerian has been arrested for impersonating a gas inspector and carrying out numerous house robberies in the areas of Torrevieja, San Fulgencio and Guardamar. On arriving at his home, the Belgian was alarmed

to find a man actually inside his property claiming to be a gas inspector carrying out a revision.

The victim immediately called the Guardia Civil as he had not authorised or asked for anyone to come and check the gas installation, and even if he had, he would not expect them to enter his property while he was out.

By the time the police arrived, the bogus gasman had already left the victim’s property. However, he was spotted on the urbanisation and picked up. Items such as mobile phones, jewellery, a watch, garage remote controls and cash in euros and pounds were discovered in the boot of the perpetrator’s vehicle. They were later

identified as having been stolen and returned to their rightful owners. The bogus gasman was arrested and will remain in prison until his trial. The Guardia Civil have warned people to always ask to see identification if they find themselves in a similar situation, and if they are still not sure, to then call the gas company involved or the Guardia Civil themselves.

A BONFIRE FOR THE SOUL

Whilst Alicante city celebrates its bonfire season this month, the Noche de San Juan festivities are celebrated in many parts of Europe, though especially rooted in Spain, Portugal and the Nordic countries, where fires are usually lit and rituals linked to the arrival of the summer solstice.

The question as to when the Noche de San Juan should be celebrated has been divisive for centuries. Some say that the celebration is linked to the astronomical anniversary of the arrival of the summer solstice, whereas others say it is linked to the Christian festival of San Juan (June 24), just six months before the birth of Jesus, on December 24. Then we have further division

as to when to celebrate, as many people are unsure if it should be celebrated on the night of 23rd, or 24th. However, the conclusion is that it is all a matter of interpretation, as the “night” of a certain day does not commonly refer to the first hours, but rather the last, once the sun has set. According to the interpretation, different places celebrate on different days, for example, in A Coruña or Barcelona, they celebrate it on the night of June 23rd to 24th, while the bonfires of San Juan in Alicante are on the night of the 24th to the 25th. But before getting any deeper, the only real important thing to remember is to celebrate, whenever you choose to. According to the Gregorian

A DIP IN THE SEA It might be a little bit out of walking distance, but if you fancy a dip in the Mediterranean with a difference, then Valencia should be on your list of places to visit. As of this week, the natural pools in the marina in Valencia have

been opened to the public, with a designated swimming area created, 24-metres-long, and with a depth of 8 metres, located in one of the inner docks of the marine facility. The natural salt water pool is surrounded by

calendar, the summer solstice occurs between June 21st and 22nd in the northern hemisphere. The day of the summer solstice, known as ‘the longest day of the year’, refers to the day with the longest period of light. At historical level, throughout the times this event has been celebrated in all cultures with festivals and rituals.

artificial grass and offers a unique relaxation and leisure zone for all. The area also has showers, toilets, changing rooms and lifeguards, as well as a first aid post, and a limit of 403 people at a time.

In the northern part of Europe, where the Germanic, Slavic and Celtic tribes lived, the summer solstice was celebrated with dances and songs around the fires. It was a night where fire and magic merged. Oracles and divination mixed with rituals of c o u p l e s . Lovers jumped through the flames because through the

power of fire, evil spirits and demons would be expelled from the relationship. In Sweden, on the day of the solstice, a pine was decorated in each city and all the villagers danced around it. Women and girls used to bathe in the river. This was a magical ritual, meant to bring rain for crops. This is the basis of the current rite of the Easter tree. The celebration of San Juan is a magical night of fire and purification, in which rituals and spells of all kinds have been performed for thousands of years. They are rites destined to strengthen the spirit, to overcome resistance and fear of the unknown, to attract love, good luck and health. An impulse to the interior renewal to obtain new energy and to burn in the bonfire all that we want to leave behind in our lives. Although many places ban the practice, a bonfire on the beach is a traditional way of celebrating in Spain, and that fire is then used as a purifying element that helps us to burn everything bad, leave

behind bad luck and negative energies. One of the oldest rituals is to jump over the fire nine times to ward off evil spirits and have protection throughout the year, and through the ancestral myth, we know that if you jump hand in hand with your partner, the union between the two will be longlived and lasting. It is not just fire though, water as an element of health and fertility is crucial, and so those who dare to enter the cold waters of the Mediterranean sea and jump nine waves from behind will get health and happiness for the whole year. Herbs also play a part, part of the earth that becomes a magical element, and medicinal herbs that grow in the field such as thyme or rosemary, multiply their beneficial effects and their healing properties. It is customary to leave from midnight to pick them, then hang them in the window of your house to receive the blessing of San Juan, or you can just take advantage of their beneficial health powers.

Dear Davina... Dear Davina, My fiancé and I recently announced our engagement and have started to discuss wedding plans with our friends and family. My dream is to marry somewhere abroad that will be really special and exotic. Both of us love the idea of the Caribbean, it ticks all our boxes, so we have started to look at the islands. When we discussed our ideas with my future mother-in-law she was very unhappy and made it instantly clear that she doesn’t want us to travel anywhere unless it is back to the UK. She says she is concerned that it will mean that there will be hardly any of her side of the family there on our big day because of the cost and distance. We are both disappointed with her response because of course, we want our family with us, but we also would have liked to have done things our way. I am very torn with how I should handle things as I don’t want her to hate me before my marriage to her son has even begun! I really don’t know what to do for the best? -Meghan

Dear Meghan, A tricky situation for you indeed! However, I think the answer for you lies in exactly what you have written….. “We wanted to do things our way…” Remember, this will be without a doubt be one of the most special and important days of your life. Also remember that this day is all for and about two people, yourself and husband to be. Therefore, the choices you make must be based on what you both want. I understand that it can be very difficult when considering everyone, naturally, those that love you will want to be there to share your special day with you, but ultimately this special day is all about the bond of two people. If your fiancé has a good relationship with his mother then perhaps it would be better for him to approach her first and explain how you both wish for things to be. This way it won’t all be about you and if she wants the best for her son then she will want him to be happy. I am sure she will begin to understand that his and your happiness must come first. I also think that it would help for her to actually visualize your plans, so perhaps you should make a decision on that exotic place and

DO YOU SUFFER WITH DIABETES? Do you suffer with diabetes? According to Oscar Noronha, President of the Vega Baja Diabetics Support Group, the huge rise in the number of diabetics is closely related to significant lifestyle changes over the last few decades, which include poor eating habits, a lack of exercise and increased levels of stress. Diabetes traditionally hits people in their 60s and upwards, and with many residents of pensionable age here on the Costa Blanca, a huge number are currently being treated by their local doctor or hospital specialist. Nevertheless, with medical staff under pressure, patients often receive just a few minutes to have their illness explained and tend to leave their appointments bewildered and confused, not really understanding anything about the illness or really what the best way to manage it is. However, help is at hand in the form of the Diabetics

LIFE CONNECTIONS One of the key factors in life is the connection to others. So what does that really mean in terms of daily living? If you were brought up in the western world and specifically were born in the 50s, 60s or 70s then you will probably have experienced being brought up in a supportive community. Where people around you, got together and celebrated holidays and other special occasions, not just as a family, but as a community. I remember celebrating the Queen’s silver jubilee in 1977. We had a street party where I lived and we all dressed up in Red, White, and Blue. Everyone

was there, children, mum’s and dad’s, aunts and uncles and grandparents. There were games and food that had contributed and it was shared by everyone. It was fun and it was loving. We all felt we belonged there, altogether just sharing the day. As a child, I really had no concept of the royal family and I am not suggesting you all get patriotic now, as I know times have changed and not everyone feels the same loyalty as once was. But it really wasn’t about being patriotic that sunny day out on the street. It was about

community, it was about belonging to something outside of your family. We were all connected on that day. I remember going to my grandparent’s house, my mother’s parents; who weren’t rich financially. But they were rich in love and family and definitely in community. My grandmother had 2 children who had been born with disabilities and although they were adults when I was an infant they still lived at home. They were not only loved and supported as family members, but they were also embraced in their community by neighbours and friends of the family.

When my grandmother had to go out, a neighbour would come and care for them and spend time and they were happy and didn’t see themselves as any different to anyone else. Because they belonged and they felt it. So what is my point in all this, you may ask? Well, my point is, in a world that has become so disconnected, that neighbours quite often don’t know each other’s names, due to the racy pace of life and lack of skills in communication, we really need to

11 by Nicola Farnhill Connected to Self

get back a sense of community. We need to belong again, to something so much bigger than our families and friends, we need to start caring and wanting to connect. To get rid of that fear of being vulnerable and asking for help. To show people that outside of the comfort zone of our families, that it is okay to be there for others and them there for us. To open our hearts wide without fear of rejection, to sit in the loving place for who we really are and to create the space for others to do the same. And we need this more than any other time.

In a world that can at sometimes feel so unsafe, due to politics and wars, we the people need to connect and support each other. We need to stop feeding the ‘Divide and conquer’ policy of our governments and show the world that by creating community, by extending our arms out, that we the people can create sustainable communities of support. I believe if we did this then we could regain back our power to make the changes necessary in our education

systems, in our government policies, in the lack of equality in nutrition worldwide and the economy. In mass we are powerful, but also in love we can expand our ability to bring about the greatest changes to our earth, it’s climate, flora and fauna and the other creatures that we share it with. So you see community is not just a past time, it is a culture that we need to re-create. When we feel we belong, we grow in confidence, our egos diminish, as we sense we are loved and accepted without judgement, we are embraced just as we are. So where can you start to experience community in your life? This Saturday 15th June, TRIBE-ALL a community-based project will have its first get-together. From 10.30am until 1.30pm in the beautiful picnic area surrounding the salt lake of La Mata. Meeting initially at the Cementerio Municipal Torrelamata, the group will partake in a family event, run by the organisers who are experienced in creating community. Through conversation, fun and games that will hopefully leave the participants feeling more open, confident, trusting and belonging. All that is required is your presence, a desire to contribute and a dish of your choice to share with others at lunch afterwards. If you would like to belong to a wider community, why not come along? For more details, you can contact Caroline on 722 74 26 44 or myself, Nicola on 634316839.

COOKING WITH OLIVE OIL

It was previously thought that frying food in olive oil was harmful to one’s health. However, new studies have shown that this is not so. In fact, they state that the opposite is true.

For olive oil to lose its chemical structure and equally its nutrients through

overheating, it would have to be fried at a temperature much higher than you would usually need to heat your oil. Therefore, under normal frying temperatures, chemical breakdown is limited, and the amount of harmful toxins formed is reduced.

most expensive extra virgin olive oil for frying; a cheaper, milder olive oil is just as good. Stronger, more flavorsome virgin olive oil can be added to salad or bread at the table.

Do not use your best and

Some oils may add a bitter or strong taste to certain foods after frying, so if you are unhappy with one, then try another and another, until you find an oil that is most suited to your palette. For deep fat frying, the oil graded ‘olive oil’ is best.

Olive oil is a fat, but it is a ‘good’ fat that rids the body of ‘bad’ cholesterol and raises the levels of ‘good’ cholesterol, which helps to protect against heart disease.

Ideas for using olive oil in the kitchen

How to use olive oil in the kitchen Use good quality extra virgin olive oil for cold dishes and salads, as the taste is milder and less acidic.

HEALTHY FAT: Olive oil is one of the good guys and should be consumed every day if possible.

Using olive oil for frying

There are many uses for olive oil in the kitchen. The Spanish use olive oil in the majority of their meals and have created some inventive recipes and ideas for its usage with their food. If you are looking for

new ways to incorporate olive oil into your diet, take a look at some of the ideas listed below. For breakfast or a light snack, rub a clove of garlic over toasted French bread, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. You can also add slices of ham, cheese or tomato. Drizzle olive oil and cider vinegar over your fresh salad and season with salt and pepper. Use olive oil to make other types of salad dressings. Use to make sauces for pasta or marinades for meat and fish. Brush meat or fish with olive oil before grilling or roasting. Use olive oil to make your own homemade mayonnaise. Drizzle over rice, pasta, bean or couscous salads. Lightly drizzle over carrots, parsnips and peppers before roasting. Add to mashed potato instead of butter. Pour over your cooked pizza before serving.

FERAL CATS Feral cats are domesticated cats who are often descendants of unaltered cats who were abandoned outdoors. They are fearful of humans because they have been fending for themselves from a young age, and never socialised with people or learned to trust them. Life for these cats can be very tough and short, they rarely

die of “old age”. Sadly many of the feral cats become ill, the most common diseases and viruses they catch are FIP (Feline infectious peritonitis), Panleukopenia, Calicivirus and Leukemia. Sadly some of these illnesses can be avoided through vaccinations, and are curable with the correct medication, but these cats die untreated. There is a huge number of cats and kittens living on the streets in Spain. Even though these cats are accustomed to living their lives outdoors, their lives are always at risk. The list of daily dangers these cats face is never-ending. From mistreatment to the dangers of crossing roads, it’s not a worryfree life for these animals. Fortunately, there is a movement that is helping the feral cat population, this is called TNR, TNR stands for Trap, Neuter

and Release. TNR is the most humane and effective method for managing and reducing the population of feral cats. Cats are humanely trapped, taken to a veterinary clinic to be spayed or neutered, they also have their ear tipped which is the international sign that shows that the street cat has been spayed or neutered. The cats are often treated for internal and external parasites, vaccinated and sometimes microchipped. The cats are then released back to where they came from. TNR enables feral and outdoor cats to live their lives without adding to the overpopulation of homeless cats. If you have feral cats in your area, please contact a local rescue to see if they can help you with TNR. If the rescues are struggling with funding, they may be able to lend a humane trap, and most local veterinary clinics will spay or neuter street cats at a lower cost. FACTS: Feral cats can be a great

long-term solution for pest control. Unlike professional exterminators, they do not leave dangerous poisons around for other animals or children to get to. They are so good at their “job” that many businesses have taken feral and stray cats on, to keep their business pest free! Killing feral cats does not lower their numbers, new feral cats will soon take their place. TNR is much more effective.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY VEHICLE FAILS THE ITV INSPECTION? Once your vehicle has reached a certain age, mandatory testing of roadworthiness must be undertaken to ensure it reaches the minimum safety standard to be

driven on the public roads. Despite the test being mandatory, more than 2.6 million vehicles are estimated to be on the roads with

an expired ITV. There is a considerable fine for driving a vehicle without a valid ITV, but the consequences could be deadly, and in the event of an incident your insurance would

likely to be invalid, leaving you to pay whatever bills and costs result. Once

your

has

undergone the mandatory ITV inspection, there are three possible outcomes, to pass, to have faults which need fixing and then the vehicle retesting, or to fail, these are Favorable, Desfavorable and Negativa.

Favourable: the vehicle is in a condition that satisfies the mandatory minimum test and may continue to be driven on the road until the next test date. Desfavorable: the vehicle has not passed the inspection on account of the inspectors identifying faults or failures. However, the vehicle MAY still be driven on the road, but only on a route which takes it to a workshop to have the repairs carried out, and then back to the test centre once the repairs have been carried out. You have a maximum of two months to have the repairs completed. You can take your vehicle to an

MANCHESTER CLUBS IN BATTLE TO SIGN MAGUIRE Manchester City Manchester United set to battle to Harry Maguire summer.

and are sign this

The rivals both want to sign the Leicester man and are prepared to enter talks over a deal that will almost certainly smash the record for an English defender. Leicester does not want to sell him, so it seems they have put a huge price tag on the defender. It is understood the Foxes believe he is worth in the region of 80 million.

The current record for a defender is 75 million . The two Manchester clubs seem unlikely to want to pay that much but if a price is agreed it would certainly break the 50m City paid for Kyle Walker in 2017 United putting Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly next on their list if they see Maguire move to the Etihad.. Pep Guardiola would be able to offer Maguire Champions League football which could be the deal breaker. Even though Leicester don’t want to lose their star man they have begun drawing up a list of potential successors that includes the Burnley James Tarkowski.

SIR ANDY MURRAY RETURNS Andy Murray will make his competitive return to the tennis in doubles at the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen’s Club alongside Spaniard Feliciano Lopez. The three-time grand champion and Olympic gold medalist underwent career-saving hip surgery in January after playing what he thought could have been his final match at the Australian Open. Murray, 32 has been back in training for a number of weeks, with his progress sufficient enough for him to make a comeback. Murray is not in a condition to return to singles action but it looks likely that there

will be a future comeback to the tour considering he already feels able to play competitive matches. Nobody has yet attempted to make a comeback in singles after surgery like this, and it believed Murray is unlikely to play singles

at Wimbledon this summer. If he manages to stay injury free at Queen’s he could potentially play at Eastbourne as well - then Murray i likely to enter the doubles at Wimbledon this summer as part of his comeback
