HOTTEST CHRISTMAS IN DECADES

The Costa Blanca was sweltering in temperatures more typical of Spring during the Christmas week. According to the state meteorological agency, AEMET, the Valencia region had the warmest recorded temperatures since 1950 and has seen an increase in 2015, 2018 and 2019, which they say is evident of global warming and climate change.

During the Christmas week, the region had an average temperature 6 degrees warmer than normal for the time of year, temperatures which would be typical for the last week in April.

In the Alicante province, Rojales reached 17 degrees high, whereas Alicante-Elche Airport recorded a high of 16. Pinoso felt a little colder however as the thermometers only reached 14 degrees there.

Temperatures dropped at the weekend in preparation for New Year, however, with declines of between 3 and 6 degrees, stabilising the levels to normal.

As the month came to an end, collective temperatures across the Valencia region showed that December had been the hottest in 100 years.

SAN FULGENCIO FLOOD MODEL

The regional director general responsible for water, Manuel Aldeguer, has visited San Fulgencio, along with the mayor of the municipality, José Sampere Ballester, with a view to developing flood defence systems which will serve as a model in the Vega Baja area.

The visit was made at the request of the town hall on order to address the severe flooding seen in the area in September, and with

the objective to find solutions as the region are creating directives and plans against flooding in the future.

The Flood Defence Plan, as Manuel Aldeguer explained, "has two axes, on the one hand, to achieve rapid water evacuation and on the other the protection of population centres." The case of San Fulgencio is “emblematic”, the director-general pointed out, “because it was flooded in 1987 and again last year”, reaching a depth of one metre around the town centre and 20 centimetres above the level of the streets. In this regard, he pointed out

at the meeting that the solution may be to elevate the streets, by lowering the water passage beds or even placing a barrier around the village. Secondly, there must be adequate pumping systems available to evacuate rainwater faster "and prevent it from happening as after the September DANA, when San Fulgencio had water for more than twenty days", as the mayor reported. The director-general stated that "these are actions that we can carry out during this term, apart from others that already involve more complicated procedures", so "that these same solutions can be applied to other populations" so that San Fulgencio will be a model to other points of the Vega Baja.

WOMAN ATTACKED IN TORREVIEJA

The civil guard arrested a 36-year-old, native of Senegal after he assaulted a woman walking on the promenade in Torrevieja.

The assault took place at 7.30 am where the man proceeded to take a bag from the woman after attacking her from behind and throwing her to the ground. After a thorough search of the town, the Civil guard found the man and the woman's belongings on his person, which included, 230 euros in cash, a mobile phone, and the woman's ID.

EMPTY YOUR PIGGY BANK

If you make just one resolution this year, it should be to take a hammer to your piggy bank, check down the gap in the sofa, turn over your mattress and search for any leftover pesetas, as 2020 is the last year you will be able to exchange them. You have until 31 December 2020 to get them to the bank, however, it can only be done through the national bank, which has been the case since 2002, but the Bank of Spain estimates that the country is sitting on 1.6 billion euro worth of redundant currency. The

issued between 1936 and 1939 must be analysed first by the experts at the bank.

Now the bad news, not all peseta bills and coins can be exchanged. According to the information from the Bank of Spain, all banknotes after 1939 are exchangeable for euro, whilst those

In addition, the central body has added that it is also the last opportunity to exchange all commemorative, collector and special coins denominated in pesetas for the euro.

Maria Jose Costa, spokesperson for the Cuidadanos stated that there was a great deal of regret about the situation and said she had previously requested both the Local police of San Miguel and Los Montesinos to collaborate to offer a higher cover or policing.

last audit conducted by the bank was in November, which is when they were still unable to account for the 1.6 billion, of which 819 million is in note form. The figure, incidentally, is some 3% of the currency that was circulating in 2001, but a staggering 32% of the coins that were in circulation (we are serious about checking down the sofa).

Christmas Crime Increase in San Miguel San Miguel has been subjected to a rise in crime this Christmas due to a lack of police patrols in the area, which has left locals in an uproar. Last Friday a gas station in San Miguel was involved in a robbery which is now under investigation.

As for coins that were in use on 1 January 2002 they can be exchanged, as the previous period of exchange for earlier forms expired in 1997. However, that is only 20,000 euro of the total value.

Hospital de Torrevieja line continues with 9 roundtrips from Monday to Friday between the months of September to July and 9 round trips every day during the months of July and August. The new service from the Orihuela Costa to the city will start at the Zenia Boulevard Shopping Centre, stopping at the coastal town hall, Torrevieja University Hospital, Entrenaranjos Urbanization and Orihuela. The service will be provided throughout the year except for the month of August, departing at 07:00, 13:00 and 19:00 from the Boulevard, returning at 09:30, 15:25 and 20:55 from Orihuela.

The fairs will also be maintained at the lowest possible rates established by the department of transport. For his part, José Pedro García has indicated that the objective of this agreement, which will last one year, is “to promote urban mobility and sustainability, optimizing the resources we have available through the reorganization of the lines, avoiding having buses on routes with hardly any passengers”.

Welcome to Alicante-Elche Airport

Alicante-Elche Airport welcomed a very special person this week, as the 15 millionth passenger used the facility. The celebration was doubly poignant, as 2019 saw two records broken at the airport, after welcoming the 14 millionth passenger in November.

The passenger was unaware of the significance of his arrival at first and was somewhat surprised after disembarking from the EasyJet flight from London Southend Airport. The director of the airport, Laura Navarro, welcomed him personally to the airport, presenting several gifts, among which

was a pass for the VIP Lounge at the airport terminal. Representing the tourism sector, the general director of Tourism of the Valencian Community, Herick Campos, and the director of Tourism Intelligence,

Mario Villar, also attended the event. For this winter season, which started on Sunday, October 27 2019, and ends on March 28 2020, Alicante-Elche Airport has 149 direct routes to 23 countries, which shows the connectivity with which the Costa Blanca hub holds.

Tolls To Continue Drivers using the AP7 between Orihuela and Torrevieja will continue to pay the toll fee of 3.95 euros in the high season until 2048. In comparison to much of the motorway that has free access in the surrounding region. This decision will continue to keep

traffic numbers high on the N332, especially in peak season.

A NEW YEAR, BUT ARE YOU BRINGING OLD ISSUES WITH YOU? By Sam Kelly DipPFS, BA (Hons), Managing Partner, Chorus Financial. I’m sure we all woke up on January 1st with a list of resolutions for 2020. You’ll no doubt make use of that new gym membership until at least January 12th, resist the wine in your fridge until… maybe the 4th? We all go into a new year, and indeed a new decade, with the right intentions, but old habits soon take over. A few months into the year we’re already wondering which of the resolutions we attempted would be w o r t h trying again n e x t January! These are generally trivial things. Will it really do you so much harm to have that nice glass of wine, and perhaps a swift walk along the beach will do you better than a painful hour in a gym anyway? Areas where we can’t be so complacent are with our personal finances, as making just one wrong decision can affect you for the rest of your life. There’s a couple of areas that I’d encourage you all to consider as you go into 2020. 2019 saw record numbers of

Brits registering for Spanish residency. This was aggressively encouraged by the British government. Chorus were honoured to have been on the panel for dozens of Brexit information events alongside the British Consulate, and these events reached 10,000s of people over the course of the year. The overriding message to survive Brexit in Spain was to get legal! Many of you will now be resident here in Spain, or on your way to residency, and with t h a t m e a n s g e t t i n g your financial affairs aligned with a new tax system. It’s so important to seek appropriate advice in this area. The number one mistake we see is Brits continuing to rely on financial advice from the UK. Despite having the best intentions, a UK advisor cannot possibly be expected to have access to the right products and indeed knowledge of the Spanish tax system to advise appropriately. As a fully UK qualified financial advisor, I can tell you that the exams

I sat there did not arm me with the appropriate knowledge to operate in Spain. It has taken many years of additional training here in Spain for me to be in the position where I have a unique and intimate knowledge of both UK and Spanish tax and financial systems. The risks of receiving advice from a UK advisor are that firstly it is very unlikely their regulation or indemnity insurance actually extend to Spanish resident clients. Chorus have specific licenses here in Spain that ensure appropriate advice and protection for our clients here. From a product point of view, many popular products in the UK can lead to full taxation and indeed sometimes double taxation here in Spain. These include ISAs and popular products like UK Aviva and UK Prudential bonds. There are specific products designed for Spanish residents that can help with your investment and tax planning goals, whilst providing the best tax efficiency available. Pension planning can be equally complex, with special consideration given to currencies and other issues unique to living overseas, including the tax implications of any income you take. Another area to be wary of is the

appropriateness of local advice here in Spain. Remember, as soon as an advisor operates outside the UK, even if they’re from companies that appear to be British on the surface, the rules are very different. In Spain, we see people tied into products for long periods of time – 5, 8, even 10 years. Although this doesn’t always lead to issues, these tie-ins are no longer legal in the UK and are often there to facilitate commissions as high as 7 or 8% to your financial advisor. Chorus will always now offer an option without a tie-in and through our ethical approach and full feedisclosure, our clients can save up to 75% in fees on popular products like Spanish Compliant Investment Bonds and pension transfers. Even for those with existing plans, we can dramatically improve your portfolio and reduce your costs. So, don’t be complacent, it’s easy and stress free to have existing or new financial plans reviewed, and with the right advice, you can vastly improve your prospects for the coming year, and indeed the coming decade. If you’d like an initial consultation for free and without obligation please call me direct on 664 398 702 or email s.kelly@chorusfinancial.es.

THEY THINK IT’S ALL OVER Officers from the National Police have visited 244 bars across the region in order to verify the legality of the football matches broadcast on televisions in the venues.

During the inspections, some 108 people have been reported and 80 settop boxes seized, with investigators estimating the financial value of the fraudulent broadcasts totalling over 300,000 euro. In the Alicante province, the inspections have been carried out

across all municipalities, including 10 bars in Orihuela, 14 in Torrevieja and 6 in Elche, as well as others in Benidorm, Elda, l'Alfàs del Pi, Petrer, Teulada, Javea and Alicante city. Those reported for offences have been done so on suspicion of a crime against intellectual property. The activities of the police are similar to those taken a year ago when 2,000 establishments were visited in total resulting in 800 decoders being seized.

PATERNITY LEAVE EXTENSION As of January 1, new fathers will be able to enjoy 12 weeks of paternity leave, an extension of 4 weeks over that of last year. The extension doesn´t end there however, as of 2021 the amount of leave will be 16 weeks for new fathers, equalling that of the mother. The first four weeks of parental leave must be taken immediately after the baby is born. The remaining eight weeks may be distributed at the choice of the father but must be taken during the child's first year. In order to take paternity benefit, the father must first have the medical certificate of birth of the baby from the hospital. In addition, within three days, the new-born must be registered in the Civil Registry in order to update

the 34 normally on duty overnight, as well as an increase to 39 operators on New Year´s Day. As for the next holiday, Three King´s Day, there will be a 7% increase in operators with 41 people manning the phones.

STORM BOOSTING EMPLOYMENT

Guardamar has launched two new employment workshops which are designed to help areas affected by the storms in September.

The employment and training programs have been subsidised by the Generalitat Valenciana through the Valencian Employment and Training Service (Labora), who have given over half a million euro in grants which will create workplace training for 34 nemployed people in the town. As part of the training, the workers will be employed learning on the job

as they repair damaged areas and improve public services. The mayor, José Luis Sáez, accompanied by the councillors of human resources, Jesús Rodríguez, and urban services, parks and gardens, Yann García, were together in welcoming the new recruits to the scheme in the town hall. During the welcome, José Luis Sáez explained how they will “Acquire experience and knowledge, improve our location but above all that they will open up new work horizons, that is the objectives of these programs.”

Once all these papers have been collected, the parent should go to a Social Security office (or complete the process online), in order to receive paternity benefits.

NO RAVE ON

The Murcia region will be clamping down on raves, parties and other unauthorised public events, thanks to legislation signed into law in December. The legislation declares the organisers and property owners liable to “very

serious” infractions, with fines of up to 500,000 euro, if the event is operating without the approved licences or without considerations having been taken and for issues relating to noise and other inconvenience.

GOING GREEN

The regional president, Ximo Puig, has announced that Valencia will be going green in 2020, with the region promoting a ‘big green pact’ to deal with the climate emergency. The president said that the plan proposes a ‘transversal agreement’ that includes a Pact for the Forests, the Law of Energy Transition and the Valencian Strategy

for Biodiversity and will include a summit of peripheral territories that will gather representatives of all the 62 municipalities across Valencia together in one place as the community ‘needs’ and ‘demands’ that the new government respond to a demand for ‘fair funding’, which has been ‘for too many years without answers’.

7 NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS FOR YOU AND YOUR PET the correct portion sizes.

As a new year begins, many of us set goals for the months ahead of us. Some of us plan to exercise more, make healthier food choices, or even travel more. This year consider your pets when making New Year's resolutions. Just like us, they could benefit from changes and improvements to their health, wellness and general routine. But they need our help to make this possible. Here are some ideas to get healthy this year alongside your beloved pet.

Spice up mealtime by using a puzzle feeder. A dog's natural instinct is to hunt and forage for food, the puzzle feeder keeps their brain and body active and engaged by providing them with a fun way to forage and find their food providing your pet with mental stimulation and enrichment. These feeders also help dogs that eat their meals too quickly which can be very dangerous.

Check your pet's diet. Can you improve their diet by adding fresh ingredients? Sardines are a great healthy option to add to your dog or cats diet, fresh fruit and vegetables are also a healthy source of nutrients for our pets. Check they are getting the correct amount of food at mealtime. Your vet can give you advice on the correct portion size for your pet. Or follow the feeding guidelines on the packaging if you use dry food. Sometimes we over or underfeed our pets because we guess the amount they should be eating. Try sticking to

Get serious about your pets weight loss. Overweight animals tend to suffer from health problems and live shorter lives due to heart disease and other health complications. Help your pet to lose some weight by taking part in regular fun activities like playing fetch outside in the garden or doggy park, taking strolls on the beach or by simply walking or jogging around the neighbourhood. If you are worried about your pet's weight, speak to a veterinary professional for advice. If you think your pet may be underweight schedule a veterinary appointment to

work out what the problem is so that you can start treatment as soon as possible. Get creative with exercise. Take part in dog training or agility classes for fun. Met up with other dog lovers and take your dogs to the park or the beach to interact with other dogs. This keeps both you and your pet healthy.

4

Play regularly. Everyone knows that most dogs enjoy playing fetch, but many pet parents forget that playing with our cats is just as important. Play is a great way to bond with your cat and gives them physical exercise. A bored cat often shows signs o f behaviour problems due to the lack of stimulation and enrichment. Cats naturally enjoy exploring, climbing and hunting. Invest in some feather toys to use during playtime with your cat and a cat tree. Regular playtime will decrease behaviour problems and help a shy cat to gain confidence. Depending on your cat's age and health, the average play

session should last between 5 to 15 minutes a day. Take care of those teeth. Just like us, our pets need dental checks too. Take your dog or cat to the vets for a check-up. Dental problems can be very common and they may be due teeth cleaning or perhaps need any bad teeth removed to maintain good dental health. Give your pet's food that will help clean their teeth and speak to the vets about how to maintain clean and healthy teeth and gums.

6

Check-ups. Veterinary checkups are very important and should take place at least once a year. It is important to detect any health problems at an early stage to prevent your pets from becoming unwell. Booster injections can also be done at yearly appointments to keep your pets in good health. Whilst you are at the vet's office, take a moment to check that microchips are up to date with the current home address and correct telephone numbers.

DETOXING After the indulgences of Christmas, most of us feel like we need to get back on track with our diets and improve our health. A detox is a great way to do this and if you have a not too hectic week coming up soon, it's a great way to kick start 2020! Although a detox mainly means avoiding high fats, sugar, dairy and no alcohol, which sounds a bit sad, I think a healthy start to the year is in order if we want to start a healthier and happier new year. A WORD OF WARNING THOUGH, a detox can encourage a sense of withdrawal and physical symptoms of headaches and loose bowel movements as we assist the body in cleansing.

Health & Wellbeing

Detoxing is a great way to boost your immune system to fight away those nasty colds, flu, and viruses that lurk around in the winter months. It also gives your vital organs such as your liver and kidneys a well-deserved break after the festive season and allows them to flush away any toxins that are still hanging around. It also helps restore them to a high level of function. Our skin shows what we are and have been absorbing and when we have over indulged we can tell. Having a fresh and healthy complexion not only shows others how we have been treating ourselves but more importantly it makes us feel good to look in the mirror and see a healthy glow. When we detox we provide the skin with essential vitamins and minerals that may have been lacking previously. Overeating guarantees putting on the pounds, which always seem so quick to gain but so hard to lose, when we detox we kick start the bowel and metabolism which speeds up weight loss. If we have more than a few pounds to lose

a good detox before starting a healthy eating and exercise plan can make so much difference. It's like starting fresh, where everything is functioning better. Giving you a greater chance of getting rid of those love handles. Body brushing can aid in your detox too. If you have not tried it, it's a great way to increase blood flow and flush out those nasties and it also helps with cell regeneration. You can buy a roughish natural loofah or hand glove made from natural fibres to body brush and before showering is the best time to do it. When you body brush it is best to use upward movements starting from your toes. Avoid sensitive areas like the neck and face and any bruises or cuts you may have. Once you have brushed the whole of your body you can then jump into the shower and work up a lather with a lovely scented gel or crème, to increase the sensory experience. And why not try a blast of cold water for a few seconds to get

Herbal teas After the festive period, we can all feel we have overindulged and need to have a bit of a cleanse and although water is the best way to flush out the system, it can get a bit boring. There are lots of herbal teas on the market but there is nothing like making your own. So why not try one of these delicious recipes to kick start your immune system, warm you up on these wintery nights and soothe your soul.

CREATING YOUR DREAM LIFE The Law of Attraction is one of the most important laws of the universe, it dictates- as you think and feel, so shall you attract. In other words, you get back what you put out into the world. So if we consider what kind of life you want, we can begin to put into action and work on it, effectively. The book "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne was brought out in 2006 and became a phenomenal success and took the world by storm, translated into 50 languages and selling over 30 million copies. It changed the way people thought about their lives and brought about the realization that we are as human beings, more powerful than we could ever imagine. The basis of the book is that everything is energy and that everything has a frequency. And that if we get into higher vibrating frequencies we can attract to us, exactly what we desire in our hearts. We change our frequencies by feeling good when we are happy, our energy changes and we feel it inside. And the easiest way to do it is to do things we enjoy, be with people that

we love and that bring out the best in us, talk about what is good in our world and focus on being happy. Now I know this may not sound easy when there is so much turmoil in the world, but all it takes is the ability to monitor what we allow in. If we choose not to indulge in negative talk, negative acts and speak of what is going on in the world that it is good, we are on our way to manifesting a wonderful life. As human beings we are creators, everything we have designed was a thought first, someone thought about inventing something and their love for this kind of work made it happen. In other words, they were using good energy and a higher vibration to create. They were not focusing on what could go wrong, which would emit a lower vibration, but on ways to achieve what they were passionate about. They were creating through love, thought, feeling and action. As we enter the new year, I believe it is time that we used this wonderful law to attract into our lives, that which we desire most, that which we deserve. So how do you start, well the first

thing you can do is to write down in as much detail as possible, what we want. You can break this down into 4 sheets of A4 paper and head them with things that you wish to create. For example, Work, Relationships, Lifestyle and Health. As you write in detail each part, you will begin to feel what it is like to have these things and this is where the magic happens. At this moment of feeling you are creating, you are sending it out to the universe and with a high vibration, the universe will line it all up for you. Ask, Believe, Receive. So you have asked the universe for what you want by writing it all down, now you must believe it will come, at the right time, through having faith, feeling it's on its way, even when there is yet to believe there is physical evidence, and this is the hard part. As time passes we may begin to observe that nothing is transpiring, so we begin to doubt

and our vibe then changes to a lower frequency and resistance is created. So the key is to trust the process and to keep our vibe high by having fun, talking positively and having a great life in the meantime. This will then put us into the receiving mode and what we desire can only transpire. Using the Law of Attraction is a skill that takes practice and there are many ways of honing it. You can listen to Abraham Hicks on Youtube. Read Rhonda Byrne's books "The Secret" or "The Magic" or "The Power" There also many others that have published information on this powerful law, that can truly make life exactly how you want it to be. IA happy, abundant and creative new year to you all!

Much love Nicola xx

CRYPTOGRAM Cryptograms are simple-substitution ciphers where every letter of the alphabet has been switched. Your task is to use pattern recognition and your grammar and vocabulary abilities to decipher the hidden quote. Hint: start with the 1, 2 and 3 letter words, and remember that the most common letters in the English language are E-T-A-I-O-N, in roughly that order. Good luck!

IS IT A BUS? An artist has devised an unusual way of using scrapped vehicles in what could be the ultimate recycling campaign, by turning a former bus into a swimming pool.

It´s not the first time Benedetto Bufalino has created a water feature from scrap, having had his work shown in many a key location, including a red telephone box which was converted into an aquarium shown at the Tate Modern for example, but this work has certainly caused a whirlpool of interest. The bus was stripped of the interior features, turned onto its side, and

BRIDGING THE GAP We´re taking a trip across the pond for our first visit of the year to motoring history, as it was on 3 January 1870 that the life of one of the most iconic and photographed bridges in the world began. It was on this day that Washington

Roebling began construction on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. The structure took an incredible 13 years to complete, but when it opened it was the largest suspension bridge in the world. The bridge was tinged with sadness however as German

Whilst we are in New York we shall remain for 1899, as the first recorded use of the word “automobile” was used by the New York Times on this day, in an editorial which was somewhat scathing of the choice of the word "autowain" as the suggestion for the official name of the motor car, which the Times took upon themselves to prove as incorrect use of the language.

Back to the homeland of Great Britain now as we jump ahead to 1934 when the British government announced that road signs were to be standardised. The catalogue of signs included the descriptive “Main Road Ahead”, but in the first draft, the “Stop” sign didn´t exist. It was in 1972 on this day that the largest fuel station in the UK was opened. OUT & ABOUT

READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS We have already enjoyed the first public holiday of the year, New Year´s day, but the burning question is when is the next day off?

very important day for Spanish fathers. The next group of holidays is Easter with Good Friday on 10 April and Easter Monday, Lunes de Pascua, on the 13.

National holidays, colloquially known as ‘Red Days’, are also joined by regional and local holidays, so the latter will differ depending on where you live. We are looking mostly at holidays celebrated in the Valencia region, although not all of them are recognised as holidays.

Friday 1 May is Labour Day, Fiesta del Trabajo. On 24 June we celebrate San Juan, a major fiesta for the Valencia region, and Saturday 25 July is Santiago Apóstol. On Saturday 15 August we have Asunción de la Virgen, and then a break until October where we have the regional Valencia holiday on Friday the 9th and the Fiesta Nacional de España on Monday 12 October, making a nice long weekend.

Monday 6 January is Three Kings day, otherwise known as Epifanía del Señor. On Thursday the 19 March, we celebrate San José, a

In November, the 1st is all saint’s day, Todos Los Santos, but that holiday has been moved to the following Monday, 2 of November. In December we have the Día de la Constitución Española on the 7th, moved a day forward from the 6th, and on the 8th, the Inmaculada Concepción, taking us through to Christmas day on the 25th.

Something for everyone.

Rojales Pantomime Group are extremely sad to advise that, due to circumstances totally beyond their control, the pantomime they have been rehearsing for the past four months has had to be cancelled. This production was due to be performed at The Cardenal Belluga Theatre in San Fulgencio on January 30/31st and February 1st. The theatre cancelled the current booking and offered alternative dates which were not suitable for the group to move the pantomime to. Anyone who has purchased tickets can get a full refund by returning the tickets to where they were bought. For any further information please contact Christine on 678 212 034 or email shimserv@gmail. com The group is very sad that they cannot perform this very funny pantomime for you at this time, and that various charities will not benefit from the money they would have donated. However, the show must always go on and we hope to be able to perform this panto at a later date……..oh yes we will!! The Rojales Pantomime Group wish a Happy New Year to you all.

New Years Concert Torrevieja auditorium will be presenting a 10th New Years’s concert on Saturday 4th and Monday 6th January at 7pm. The concert will include waltzes, polkas, Spanish music and dance and will be conducted by Francisco Sanchez. Tickets for the concert can be purchased at Calle Vicente Blasco Ibanez no23 or from the box office two hours before for between 10 and 25 euros.

STEVIE SPIT IN NEW YEARS HONOURS LIST Local man-child Stevie Spit has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in this year's Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to charity.

Stevie Spit is well known on the entertainment circuit for his outrageous comedy female impersonator act and his awesome singing, which include being part of the New Jersey Boys who had a very successful summer touring

around the region. He has been performing around the world since 1987.

Stevie quipped "Well there will be three queens in the palace that day then!"

When not on stage, Stevie spends a great deal of time working with and to raise funds for various charities including Elche Children's Home, Natasa Lynch fundraiser and, missions to Kabul in Afganistan where his act not only entertained but also raised thousands for local causes.

Stevie went on to say: "In the years when I was flitting in and out of Afghanistan, under the radar of the Taliban in order to raise desperately needed funds for war-torn children, I never dreamed in a million years it would lead to me being awarded a BEM. I'm feeling very honoured to be recognised in this way.”

On learning that he would be visiting Buckingham Palace to receive his award at the same time as Elton John,

Her Majesty's Ambassador in Spain, Hugh Elliott said: "It is extraordinary to see nine British nationals awarded at the same time – a real testament to the depth and diversity of the UK-Spain relationship and to the contribution that

so many British nationals make to their communities across Spain. Stevie (as most people know him) is a truly inspirational fundraiser. His enthusiasm is such that whenever he organises one of his many impromptu charity fundraisers it is almost a guaranteed success, such is his support from the local Costa Blanca community."

MONTE LOSE SEVEN GOAL THRILLER TEAM:- 13 Carlos, 2 Morante, 5 Manu, 9 Manu Sanchez, 10 Macia, 12 Diego Barossa, 14 Pamies, 15 Diego macia, 19 Luis, 22 Perez, 23 Maccan. SUBs:- 3 Fernando, 4 Santos, 7 Lucas, 8 German, 1 Nikolay.

The first session was, it has to be said, punctuated by far too many misplaced and hopeful passes rather than the slick football we have gotten used to seeing at the Cauldron.

For only the second time this season, CD Montesinos lost, this time by the odd goal in seven to a battling performance by a hard-working Algorfa side.

After the restart, the revival was truly on, when MACCAN ghosted into the box and was unceremoniously upended.

The game started badly for Monte, who found themselves 2 down after only 10 minutes. One, to a slick move out wide, finished with a glancing header and two, from a thumping MORANTE back pass own goal, that caught keeper CARLOS totally unaware. Monte looked shaken, but would they be able to stir themselves before half-time?

HT:- CD Montesinos 1 2 CF Atletic Algorfa

Up stepped MANU SANCHEZ to wallop the spot-kick home. However, it was still Algorfa who looked the most dangerous, closing down quickly and seemingly always first to the second ball. It came, therefore, as no surprise to the 200 plus crowd, that Algorfa re-took the lead with a carbon copy of their first goal. Whipped cross, stooping header, goal! Monte looked bereft, nothing they tried seemed to break down their determined and organised opponents. Shades of deja vu from last week came into play once again though.

Despite a lot of graft, it was Algorfa that looked the more competent side and it was only through the determination and persistence of ALFREDO, who chased down his own block tackle as it headed goal-wards and beat the keeper in a one-on-one foot-race to score. Monte back on track then.

A blasted shot from GERMAN whistled past the diving goalie, hit the post, hit the keeper and went in! The Algorfa net-minder (as with Todo last week) collided with the post in his attempts to get to the ball and was injured. All level then.

they, to be honest, barely deserved. But, football is a funny old game, so they say, and with almost the last kick of the game, yet another foray out wide saw the Algorfa forward chip an out of position CARLOS for the winner. Some of the Monte players sank to the turf, they knew, as did the majority of the crowd, that the game was up. So, Monte end the first half of the season on a loss. Plenty of time over the break then, to lick their wounds and come back fighting in the New Year for the championship that their football has, on occasions, more than deserved. Clubs line up January targets injury and the Blues reportedly have a 40m buy-back clause, which is less than he is probably worth in today's market.

The Ivory Coast international is Palace's best player but could push for a move again if big clubs come calling. European Champions Liverpool are to sign midfielder Takumi Minamino from RB Salzburg, the club have announced.

Minamino has agreed to join the Reds when the transfer window opens on 1 January 2020. The Japan international, who has won 22 caps, has impressed since joining the Austrian champions from Cerezo Osaka in January 2015. CLUBS LINE UP JANUARY TARGETS With the hectic Christmas and New Year fixture list taking its toll on the squads of the Premier League, the time of year has come once again where Managers, directors and Chairman will sit down to line up their January transfer targets.

Premier League January spending dropped from 465m in 2018 to just 140m in 2019, as several clubs passed on the opportunity to splash out due to inflated January prices in recent years. Only seven top-flight clubs spent in last years window while Tottenham made history after becoming the first Premier League side not to bring in a single player for a second successive transfer window and still ended up with a top-four finish and a Champions League Final appearance. Despite clubs being careful before splashing the cash nowadays, all clubs will be looking to buy if the player fits the system or if the price is right. Manchester United's top target was Eerling Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg but they will now

be looking elsewhere because the wonderkid was snapped up by German club Borussia Dortmund after a bidding war from Europe's elite clubs. There are also many pundits and football experts predicting an exit for French star Paul Pogba but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists that is not true and Pogba is a huge part of United's development project. Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, 30, wants to stay at Roma when his loan deal ends at the end of the season but Man Utd will be keen to keep their man after his impressive start to the campaign in Serie A. Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho insists he is happy with his squad with the club not having to be "kings of the market" during the January transfer window. Mourinho has said from his first day in charge he does not need to sign new players next month as he believes he has a squad capable of finishing in the top four of the Premier League. Mourinho has also talked

Nigel Pearson's relegation fighting and rejuvenated Watford side have already added to their squad to help their survival chances by signing Joao Pedro from Fluminense for an Undisclosed fee and the deal will go through on January 1st. Mikel Arteta will also be looking to add to his squad and his main target is to bring some drive and simplicity into the squad and has stated he wants to create the right atmosphere at the club and bring in leaders and players that can bring the squad together. Arteta has also said that he is looking for

another striker and they are expected to sell one of their forwards and move for Lyon's 23-year-old French striker Moussa Dembele. Unsung hero and Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has stated that he is open to adding to his squad in January after his sides remarkable to start to life in the Premier League but only if the price is right and Aston Villa seem like they have been priced out of a move for Werder Bremen's 23-yearold Kosovo winger Milot Rashica but are open to signing other targets in January despite the huge overhaul in the summer. Bournemouth will a have a fight on their hands to keep hold of star defender Nathan Ake over the next month. The talented youngster is linked with Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham and If this one happens, it will come late in the transfer window. Ake has turned into one of the league's most reliable and pacey central defenders since joining Bournemouth in 2017 and has become a regular in the Dutch national team.
