MUNICIPAL SWIMMING POOLS NOW OPEN IN ROJALES MOVIL
C/ Sierra de la Muela, 40 Pol. Ind. Los Urreas 30730 San Javier
The municipal swimming pools located in the municipality of Rojales are now open to the public for the summer season, which ends on 8 September. The pools in Ciudad Quesada and Heredades are open as usual, while The State Weather Agency (AEMET) issued a warning on Monday about the heatwave we are currently experiencing, indicating that it will spread across the whole of Spain, reaching up to 44 degrees centigrade in some parts of the country. This heatwave is being noted for its intensity, duration and extent. Our local weather experts at Proyecto Mastral have said the extremely hot weather will also be
felt locally, although some areas will be worse than others. Temperatures have been increasing steadily throughout this week and will reach their highest between today (Friday) and Sunday. It will be much hotter inland than on the coast, with temperatures expected to hit 35 degrees. While it will be cooler in coastal areas, with maximums of up to 30 degrees, the humidity will make it seem hotter than it is.

in Rojales people can only use the small pool at the sports centre as work is still being carried out on the larger one. Opening hours are from 10.30am to 2pm in the morning and from pm until 8pm, Monday through to Sunday.
Ensure that you stay hydrated and avoid going out during the hottest hours of the day. It has already been reported that three people have died due to the heat in other parts of Spain.

TIGER SPIDERS IN LA MATA NATURAL PARK
If you decide to take a stroll through the Natural Park of Torrevieja and La Mata, don’t be too alarmed if you come across a large, menacing-looking, striped spider – it looks more dangerous than it is! Volunteers at the Natural Park have spotted several examples of the tiger spider, which are common to the southeast of Spain.

The tiger spider will immediately head for them and inoculate them with a poison which renders them paralysed. TIGER SPIDER: A number of tiger spiders have been found in La Mata’s Natural Park. Q FOR QUALITY Orihuela Costa town hall representatives were amongst members of municipalities in Spain who collected the next batch of beach accreditations this week, picking up 5 "Q" for quality flags for some of their beaches. Councillor SabinaGoretti Galindo was the representative of the government team who attended the headquarters of the Ministry of Tourism, collecting the Q Quality Tourism 2019
certifications, awarded by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE). "Orihuela Costa once again has five Q flags that undoubtedly are further evidence of our city's clear commitment to the coast and quality tourism. Our municipality is one of the most attractive tourist destinations," said Emilio Bascuñana, the mayor of Orihuela. The event was attended by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and
Tourism, Reyes Maroto, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Oliver, and the president of ICTE, Miguel Mirones. In order for a beach or a marina to show off its Q flag, it must carry out an audit that analyses equipment for public use, cleaning services and selective collection of waste, security, rescue and first aid devices, information services to tourists, accesses to the bathing area, the hygienic services and the services of the leisure establishments. However, an accreditation only verifies compliance during the inspection. Have you got a hyperlocal news story for us? email newsdesk@sunshinenews.es

SAN JUAN MAN BURNT An 83-year-old man was hospitalised with burns and suspected alcohol poisoning, after falling into one of the fires on Torrevieja´s beaches during the San Juan celebrations. Fires in previous years had been banned amid safety concerns, but the new government team of Eduardo Dolón wanted to allow the celebrations to take place this year. According to the emergency services, the incident occurred a little after midnight when the allegedly drunk pensioner fell into the fire. Paramedics, who were on
standby for the event, attended the scene and took him to Torrevieja hospital, later transferring him to Alicante for specialist treatment. The aftermath of the event has become a political playground with those against highlighting the incident as being the reason for the ban, as well as many of the beach walkways being made of wood. Others are complaining that the beaches were left a mess after the celebrations, but this is also being dismissed by supporters who claim the beaches were left spotless by the cleaning teams.

SCOOTERS UNDER CONTROL This week, local police have been inspecting electric scooters in some areas, and in some cases, they have confiscated the machines as a result of changes to the law that puts them in the same category as mopeds. A post on Facebook from the

The electric scooter must then undergo an ITV test once it is 3 years old, then every 2 years, just like a moped. The person riding the scooter must also be in possession of a full licence for a moped, for which a car licence is sufficient, and must also have mandatory insurance. The rider is also obliged to wear a crash helmet, which must be a type approved for riding a moped, not just a cycle helmet, and can only ride the scooter on the road.

NAKED FINANCIAL ATTRACTION The regional government has given a 60,000 euro grant to the University of Valencia, aimed at covering costs associated with developing "activities of training, research, dissemination and awareness of equality in diversity."
However, the grant has met with some controversy as part of the money funded celebrations of their Gay Pride festival, and of particular concern for some was the fact that money was given to a play in which an actress is completely naked on an outdoor makeshift stage. The play was performed at the premises of the academic institution in the Campus of Blasco Ibáñez in the city of

Valencia and in Burjassot.
The money, which had a l r e a d y been approved in the 2019 budgets, sought to "promote the values of diversity as a tool for cohesion and social enrichment at the university level", and with some 100 spectators apparently seeing the naked attraction, some people think that it was far from well spent. If you are thinking 60 grand is a lot to pay for a naked lady, then don´t panic, that isn´t where the entire budget went. For example, there is a workshop on 16 July in Gandia about sexual diversity, with 5 hours dedicated to those wanting to discuss "LGTBI

realities on people with intellectual disabilities", but you also have to pay 10 euro to attend. Overall, the regional government is allocating 200,000 euro to projects promoting "diversity" (not the dance troupe), with the rest of the money divided among the University of Alicante (40,000 euro); the Polytechnic University of Valencia and Miguel Hernandez de Elche (both 30,000); and Jaume I of Castellón (20,000 euro), so you never know your luck, the naked lady play may be coming to a town near you.
The Consumers in Action watchdog has criticised the new mortgage laws which it claims "excessively benefits the bank in the face of default."
The association says that the new ruing, which came into effect this month, facilitates the initiation of enforcement proceedings that will result in evictions due to the non-payment of a very small number of instalments. Moreover, the association warns that the law allows families to be evicted from their homes before they find alternative housing. On the plus side, the group do recognise that the law incorporates improvements for consumers, especially in
terms of transparency, but a great opportunity has been missed to protect the rights of users who are facing economic problems that prevent them from paying their mortgage for a period of time. The
association
also
considers it regrettable that the law establishes that banks can apply interest for late payment of 3 points above the remuneration interest, when the case law had already established that above 2 points are abusive. Likewise, no ceiling has been
established on mortgage interest rates, so families are left unprotected if the Euribor or the other reference rates soar in the future. However, there are still standards of protection before proceedings can commence, such as when the mortgage has incurred non-payment of twelve months or 3% of the capital in the first half of the life of the loan, or fifteen instalments and 7% of the capital for the rest. The association has said that they consider it "regrettable" that the law allows for eviction even if there is no alternative housing available, something that the United Nations declared as "a violation of the right to adequate housing."

THE IMPORTANCE OF MICROCHIPS
By Zoe Moran President of Happy Pets, animal rescue Facebook: Happy Pets Rescue
A microchip is a permanent method of electronic identification. The microchip is as small as a grain of rice. The chip is inserted subcutaneously, between the shoulder blades, or the neck of your pet.
IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT MICROCHIPPING YOUR PET
Each microchip has a unique number that can be checked by using a microchip scanner.
to microchip these pets. All veterinary clinics and hospitals can microchip your pets. The microchip is registered on a microchip database registry with details of both the pet and owner.
Microchips are used as a form of identification for many animals, such as dogs, cats, horses and ferrets.
Should your pet wander or become lost, the local police, animal shelters and vet's can scan your pets and locate your details through the microchip database, and most importantly reunite you with your lost pet.
It is now the law here in Spain
Sadly thousands of pets end up
in animal shelters every year, some simply get lost or escape from their home. And without microchips, these pets are often never reunited with their owners and spend years behind bars waiting to be adopted, or in some cases, they end up in pounds where they are euthanized after a few days if they are not claimed. Microchips are so important, thanks to these simple devices, millions of animals around the world have been reunited with their owners.
•
Microchips are inexpensive and are available at all vet clinics.
•
If a pet is transferred over to a new owner, you must ensure their contact details are recorded on the database.
•
If you change house or phone number, it is important to visit your vet’s office to inform them, so that these details can be updated on the database.
•
If you are moving to Spain from another country or moving away, please be sure to register your pet with your new vets, as every country uses its own database.
•
Microchipping is a quick, safe and simple procedure that only takes seconds.

FOOD AND HEADACHES All of us will have most likely suffered some type of headache in the last year.
the body, causing them to widen or narrow.
They can even be a regular occurrence for those who are more sensitive and prone to them.
Foods naturally containing other chemicals besides amines, such as nitrates or nitrites, can also affect some people, so you may want to remove the following from your diet to see if that helps: beetroot, lettuce, celery, spinach, radishes, rhubarb, bacon, salami and frankfurters. Also avoid aspartame, gluten and MSG.
Sitting in an office with artificial lighting and staring at a computer screen all day is an obvious issue, as is stress, dehydration, lack of sleep and colds. Nevertheless, if you tend to suffer from headaches or migraines, you might want to take a look at your diet. There are a number of foods that are known to trigger migraines, while others are well known for alleviating them. A migraine is a particular type of headache that is caused by an abnormal widening of the blood vessels around the brain and within the skull. Certain foods can trigger migraines because they contain a group of natural chemicals called vasoactive amines that act on the blood vessels within
Vasoactive amine containing foods to avoid Mature cheese (soft, cream and cottage cheeses are OK) Onions Pickles Tomatoes Eggs Cured meats Yeast products Citrus fruits Fizzy drinks Red wine Beer Brandy Whisky Sherry
Foods that can help alleviate headaches Green leafy veg - Leafy greens including kale, spinach and chard are high in the B vitamin folate, which, if lacking, may increase the risk of headaches. Almonds – People with a lack of magnesium in their body may suffer with headaches and almonds are a natural source of magnesium and contain high levels of this nutrient. Tea and coffee – Although some say that coffee can cause headaches, studies show that caffeine can actually help. In fact, caffeine is commonly found in medications you can buy over the counter to combat headaches. Fish containing Omega-3 – Eating fish that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids can help with migraines as the omega-3 is found to alter blood chemicals, thus reducing the risk of blood vessel spasms that cause migraines. Add more salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines to your diet. Flax seeds are also rich in Omega-3.
Headache-friendly supplements While the ideal would be to obtain all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals our body needs from food, it’s not always possible. This is when supplements in the form of tablets could be the answer. Supplements are also a lot easier and quicker to deal with. If you do suffer from headaches, make sure you are not lacking from the following: Vitamin B-12 Magnesium Vitamin B-2, also known as riboflavin (helps reduce the frequency of headaches) Coenzyme Q-10 Chamomile (up to 3 cups of tea a day) Valerian Calcium

DO YOU HAVE THESE SUPPLEMENTS? You might want to check your medicine cabinet to see if you have these little "pickme-ups", as they have been withdrawn by the department of health. Two products manufactured under the brand Rafael Ciafardini, Egostrong capsules and Vialibol Force tablets, have been withdrawn from sale as
they contain, amongst their ingredients, sildenafil, tadalafil and idroxihomotiosildenafil, the active ingredients of Viagra.
Before you dash off and try to buy them, the problem, according to the department of health, is not so much that the products contain the pecker-picker-uppers, but
rather that the ingredients are not specified on the labels. The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (Aemps) reports that according to some tests carried out by its laboratory, the Egostrong capsules contain the active substances sildenafil and tadalafil in sufficient quantity to restore, correct or modify
a physiological function exerting a pharmacological action, and Vialibol Force tablets contain hydroxyhomotiosildenafil, derived from sildenafil. The agency, therefore, states that the presence of these substances "gives this product the status of medicine" and that "none" of the active
ingredients are declared on the labelling, which "misleadingly indicates a series of products of plant origin, minerals and vitamins."

Dear Davina... Dear Davina, Every time I go out with my friend ‘a couple of drinks’ turns into a complete disaster but it never used to be like this. I am worried that her drinking is going to cause a big problem one day. She always seems to be drinking on an empty stomach, refusing to eat anything when we are out. She knocks back the vodka like there is no tomorrow, then ends up either arguing with strangers or crying her eyes out! It’s making me not want to go out with her anymore, it’s no fun seeing her so drunk, but I don’t want to ruin our friendship. Anon. Dear reader, This is a problem a few folks on the Costa Blanca will no doubt identify with! Drinking on an empty stomach is not good for anyone and if it’s in the midday sun then it’s sure to be a recipe for disaster!
Why don’t you suggest ordering some food together, even if you have to pretend you are peckish, make sure there is food inside her. Let her know how upsetting it was for you to see such a good friend so distraught with her last episode. Order a big bottle of water to go with your food and make sure she drinks plenty, insisting it’s for her own good. Be honest and tell her that you want to enjoy your time together, which means slowing down on alcoholic beverages. Perhaps there is a reason why she’s drinking this way? Find out if she is truly happy at present, if not then maybe this is her way of masking things. Be a good friend and listen. Tell her that alcohol will not solve any problems and while it might seem like a good release at the time, it actually won’t solve any problems.
Continue to encourage responsible drinking and that you want your time together to be fun, rather than out of control. I wish you well and take care of that friend! Love Davina xxx

HEADACHES AND HOW TO RELIEVE THEM NATURALLY A headache is one of the most common types of pain. They can last for minutes, hours or even days, in the worst cases. They may come on all of a sudden or develop gradually and you could be affected by a dull throbbing ache or sharp, stabbing sensation. However they present themselves, they are not very nice! The majority of headaches are caused by minor temporary issues such as a cold, stress, dehydration or long periods of time staring at a computer screen, while others may be the result of a more serious underlying medical condition. People that rely on pharmaceuticals will often immediately reach for an aspirin or Ibuprofen as soon as a headache comes on, however, for those that prefer to cure headaches naturally without the side effects of chemically manufactured medicines, you may prefer to try any of the natural remedies outlined in this article. As mentioned previously, there are a number of conditions that can result in a headache. If you know what’s causing the pain,
it will be easier to work out the best remedy to eliminate it. Primary headaches Primary headaches are the result of some kind of physical issue, which could be anything from altered blood flow to the head, neck, and brain; hormone or nerve activity in the brain;
tension in the muscles around the head and neck, or a combination of these factors. Migraines and tension headaches fall into this category. Get enough sleep Secondary headaches Secondary headaches are produced by a condition that pushes, pulls, or presses on pain-sensitive nerve endings in the brain. The cause could be dehydration, stress, eye tension or infection, sinus problems, a cold or flu, toothache or high blood pressure. They may also result from skipping meals, bright lights, noise, poor sleep, alcohol and certain foods.
Apply heat or cold – a hot compress applied to your neck may help with a tension headache, while a cold compress can help alleviate migraines. Turn off the lights – Turn off the lights and all electronic devices and sit or lie down in a dark room for 20 minutes.
Natural remedies
Meditate - Meditation offers a simple way to relax, quieten your mind, and breathe deeply — all of which reduce headache pain. By meditating, you can calm your nerves, steady the blood flow to the brain, and eliminate tension.
Water – if you suspect you are dehydrated and that’s what’s causing your headache, drink two to three cups of water to help. It’s particularly important to keep hydrated, especially living in a hot climate.
Acupuncture – studies have shown that six sessions of acupuncture reduces the frequency of getting a migraine. Massage – As many headaches are the result of tension in the neck, shoulders and upper back, a massage can really help.
Essential oils – Both lavender and peppermint essential oils can help relieve headaches.
If you want to know which foods are good to help alleviate headaches and which to avoid if you already have one, then read our article in the food and drink section.
Massage - a few drops of undiluted peppermint oil to your temples or rub some lavender oil on your palms and inhale.

LOVE AND CONNECTION ARE TWO OF OUR TOP HUMAN NEEDS IN LIFE. Everyone needs to feel a sense of belonging, a sense of being cared for and connected, so how do we create these human needs. I would say one of the best ways is through vulnerability. Now you might question this and I wouldn’t be surprised, as vulnerability to most people means putting yourself at risk of being hurt and that can be the case if you are vulnerable with a character that has the intention of doing you harm.

fearful of showing our true colours, our weaknesses and imperfections.
It is the same when a natural disaster occurs and a country is heavily affected through the trauma. The people may need external resources and aid from other people and countries; they are vulnerable in this time and others come
Yet these things are a part of all of us. We are all at different stages of life’s journey, so surely this should allow us to be genuine in showing our authentic selves, the good and the bad. I believe that we have had a
However, with the right people and with a strong sense of who you are, vulnerability has the capability to create amazing connections. Imagine you are in an audience and you are watching an entertainer singing or someone giving a speech and all of a sudden they forget their lines, at that moment 90% of the audience would feel some sense of compassion and would also be gunning for the entertainer to pull it back and remember their lines.

In many societies today connection has been lost to some extent, we have become

great increase in depression and in particular addiction due to not being connected. When we have a lack of love and connection we feel low and negative in our energy and so we look to external resources such as substances to make us feel different, to change the way we feel. I
believe addictions give us those quick fixes, but instead, we should be looking deeper into the problem. We should be looking at how we are trying to connect with others. Are we trying to connect by creating a false perception of who we really are, what people believe others want to see? Or in genuine openness, in saying “ Hey this is who I am, sometimes I mess up, I am not perfect, but I am doing the best I can.” If you were to put your fear of rejection to one side for a moment and show vulnerability, imagine the depth of love and connection you could achieve. The authenticity of just being able to be yourself, regardless of the reaction of others, you would not only create deeper connections with others, but you would also create that space for others to be vulnerable and authentic too. As they would sense a genuine safety of just being around you. So I want you to ask yourself today, to evaluate your connection with others, the amount of love you have in your life in reflection to how much you want to have. Are you showing your true self and being vulnerable in showing it? Or do you simply,

When we answer a question authentically, we give others a chance to listen, to support us and be there for us, as well as being available to connect with them genuinely. To let them know who we really are...warts and all. Have a fabulous week! Much love Nicola

DROP QUOTE Drop Quotes
In Drop Quotes the goal is for the solver to uncover a hidden quote. A black-and-white crossword-style grid is set up for each quote, with a number of letters “hovering” above each column. Your task is to “drop” each of those letters into the appropriate square in each column, until the entire quote is revealed. All punctuation (commas, periods, dashes, etc.) has been removed. Good luck!

FIVE GOOD HABITS TO HELP YOUR CAR We might take our vehicles a little for granted at times, always assuming they will start the moment we turn the key (or press the button on some modern cars), but like all mechanical machines, it´s not magic that drives them, and simply hoping that they will always perform is not always the best option. Cars do age, as does the technology that drives them, with more modern cars better equipped with safety and economical features, amongst others, but we can´t all consider replacing our car on a regular basis. The good news is, like pretty much everything, if we are careful and considerate, then we can prolong the life of the vehicle and get many more years motoring out of our trusted steed. This week, we have five tips for improving the lifespan of your car. These are not
difficult tasks either, they are simple procedures that should become habitual, and your little motor will love you long time! 1. Keep your car clean “A clean car is a happy car”, there is truth in the statement. We are not just talking about the aesthetics here either. Yes, a clean car looks better, and keeping the windows and lights clean is paramount for safety, but regular washing and waxing is known to extend the life of the car. This is even more important in
hot and humid environments, or in places with cold winters where salty road coverings can cause initially unseen damage to the car bodywork.
Being in one of the largest salt producing areas in Europe, and one of the sunniest, it is inevitable that damage to the paint or rubber seals can so easily happen. Washing by hand is considered better than the big brushes of the machine washes by many, but remember, you are not allowed to do this in the street in Spain. 2. The handbrake has a button Did you know that the handbrake has a little button at the end of the handle? This is not just for releasing the brake, but should also be used in the application. When you pull the handbrake on without the button you hear the noise of the mechanism locking into place. Over time, this mechanism can become worn and that can result in the ineffectiveness of the locking device, and, subsequently, the unplanned release of the handbrake. 3. Switch off the electrics When you have finished with

your vehicle for the day, maybe parked up at your home or in your garage, switch off any electrical item before leaving the vehicle. This could be the radio, the interior or exterior lights, in fact, anything electrical, thus reducing the risk of battery drain when you least expect it. 4. Change oil and air filters regularly Oil and air filters become clogged over time, and replacing them will improve air and oil flow to your engine,
prolonging the life of your engine and keeping up its efficiency. Replace the oil filter every time you change your oil,
Air filters don´t need replacing as frequently, but in dusty places, they may need replacing more often. Don´t worry if this scares you, you don´t have to do it yourself. You can find one of many authorised garages in the area, some of which do continual special offers on filters, and so it pays to shop around. 5. Register manufacturer
with
the
Whether you bought your car new or second hand, it is worth registering for updates with the manufacturer. This is particularly important in the event of product recalls or problems that they need to resolve. If a product batch or part has become faulty, the manufacturers will often replace them for free, so long as they are the originals and are part of the faulty set, but you may not be aware of recalls unless you register with the manufacturer.

TOTTENHAM SET TO SIGN TANGUY NDOMBELE FOR 65M Tottenham have agreed to pay a club record fee of around 65m for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.
The 22-year-old France international will sign a five-year deal and is due to undergo a medical in the next few days. Lyon have informed Tottenham that it would take a bid of
63m to buy Ndombele, who cost them 7m from Amiens last summer.
Speaking to a French last week, he said: "It's true that Tottenham are a great team a big club. They finished fourth in their league, they were finalists in the Champions League and to play for them would be a great move forward

"They are a big club like many others. Which player would not be interested in a big club?"
Ndombele is a strong and tenacious central midfielder who combines power and athleticism with technical guile.
Ndombele had been on the radar of several other top European clubs including Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain,

SAN MIGUEL GOLF SOCIETY : ECLECTIC ROUND 4 We took our monthly trek to Vistabella this week and it proved as popular as ever with 40 players lining up for the 9 am shotgun start.
A dull start gave way to a hot but humid day and generally very good playing conditions. The course as ever was in good condition although the greens were quite slow and a little lumpy. No excuses though as some people managed to put together a very good round.
"garage" champion despite some strong competition.
The prize for last place this week was a voucher for a lesson at Vistabella – a good idea you might think for someone struggling with their game and in need of some encouragement. Not a bit of it – the winner was John Trehy who declared he had simply had a bad day and a lesson would be wasted – like your confidence John.
Gold; Theo, Robin, Ivan & Graeme A certain Scottish member arrived looking as though he had been back to Glasgow for a night out – hey Jimmy, stitch that! – in fact, he had got so excited after last week's game he decided to launch himself through a bush and complete a one-point landing on his head. Whatever the state of his injuries and they did seem quite extensive, it seems to have done the trick - Alan MacDonald 38 points, thank you! You should try it more often. Elsewhere Ivan Hanak was very pleased to be this week's

Gold and Silver division In Silver Kyrre (leading the eclectic) managed to keep the ball in play and shot 35 points for 4th place. Next was Ken Flaherty who played a very steady, consistent round of 36.

RUGBY STAR MAKES THOUSANDS IN DONATIONS AFTER SACKING Another fundraiser for sacked rugby player Israel Folau has drawn more donations just 48 hours after another donation site was shut down.
Folau had his contract terminated by Rugby Australia (RA) in May after he said that “hell awaits” gay people.
Crowdfunding website GoFundMe shut down his first campaign, but a conservative Christian group has begun a new effort much to the amazement of the majority of the Australian public. Folau is a Christian who argues his contract termination was an unlawful act of religious discrimination and he is the victim in this case. His case has prompted intense public debate. RA argues the former Wallaby breached behaviour standards.
He has since controversially sought donations for a legal battle with RA.
On Tuesday, a fundraising campaign had raised more than A$760,000 (€462,727) in donations. However, the star full-back’s repeated anti-gay posts on
social media have also drawn widespread condemnation and disgust around the world.
Earlier this month, Folau filed a case against Rugby Australia and Rugby New South Wales at the Fair Work Commission Australia’s national workplace relations tribunal. “Every Australian should be able to practice their religion without fear of discrimination in the workplace,” he said in a video last week that was shown online.

The amount includes an A$100,000 donation by the ACL itself, which is among vocal supporters of Folau. Folau has played 73 Tests for Australia and was on a contract estimated to be worth A$5m. He owns a multi-million dollar property portfolio in Sydney and Brisbane

ANDY MURRAY EYES WIMBLEDON COMEBACK Andy Murray says he can't wait to compete at Wimbledon this year as he is now starting to feel fit and back to his painfree best. He had previously said he wants to make sure his comeback isn't rushed so he can feel prepared and “potentially play longer”, while he has also hinted that he could play singles at the U.S Open late this year. The three-time Grand Slam winner announced before the Australian Open that he is set to retire after this year’s Wimbledon due to his troublesome hip, but has now reconsidered. He underwent hip resurfacing surgery at the end of January and on Wednesday revealed
that he is pain-free and feels confident after his remarkable doubles title win at Queen's wit Spains Feliciano Lopez.
Murray said “My goal isn’t to be back playing tennis for Wimbledon.
The thing is that if things were going really well and I was continuing to progress but I didn’t just feel I was quite ready, then surely it makes sense for me to wait and potentially play longer than for one tournament
rather than being ‘okay, I need to rush back because it’s Wimbledon, it is a little bit too soon and I screw things up and waste the last five, six months of rehab but I feel fantastic and pain free so I will be looking for a doubles partner at this year's tournament and I can't wait to be playing at my favourite tournament" The 32-year-old also revealed that he could mark his return as a doubles player as that would be a good “stepping stone” to the singles. Murray will be competing an Eastbourne this week as part of his comeback alongside Marcelo Melo.
