San Luis, La Siesta & El Chaparral First on List

A massive clean-up of Torrevieja's streets and urbanisations began earlier this week as part of a new action plan put in place by Torrevieja Mayor Eduardo Dolón. In a press release, the Mayor together with the councillor for Urban Street Cleaning, Carmen Gómez Candel, said the proposal to properly clean, disinfect and maintain certain

areas of Torrevieja was long overdue and that this measure is being seen as urgent. Dolón added that the lack of cleanliness of Torrevieja's roads and communal areas has always been at the top of the list of complaints from many Torrevieja residents The plan, which began first thing on Wednesday morning, will continue until the end of August and a total of

117,000€ is being invested into the project per month.

The first areas to be tackled include El Chaparral, La Siesta and San Luis and will be followed by El Limonar, El Salado and Altos del Limonar. Following this, the cleanup programme will move to Torreta III, Torreta II and Torreta-Florida and then Lago Jardín, Los Balcones, Los Altos, La Veleta, Mar Azul and Punta Prima and finally Aguas Nuevas, Calas Blancas, Torreblanca, Los Frutales and Villasol. Among the many procedures to be carried out, the most urgent and first to be undertaken will be an indepth clearing and cleaning of all roads and pavements with subsequent

herbicide treatment; jetwashing of the roads; cleaning of waste containers; removal of waste that has been dumped on the roads by the bins; 200 new containers deposited across the municipality together with 30 new containers to collect glass and bottles. The normal procedure for emptying bins and cleaning will not be affected as 23 new personnel have been employed

and will use special machinery solely for the purpose of this project. Gómez Candel has asked for residents to be patient while the plan is put into action, particularly if any inconveniences are caused, although she stressed that the utmost care will be taken to ensure that residents are disturbed as little as possible. ORIHUELA COSTA BUSINESSES DEMAND ACTION AGAINST ILLEGAL STREET VENDORS The Chamber of Commerce of Orihuela has joined forces with various businesses on the Orihuela Costa to demand that authorities, including the town hall of Orihuela and the provincial and regional governments, take drastic and urgent measures to

Local businesses are so fed up that they have demanded action and want to know exactly what the authorities are going to do to tackle the problem, which they say is affecting their own legal businesses. Mario Martínez, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Orihuela, has said that the coast needs these local businesses to flourish as they help generate employment, tourism and money for the local economy. Not only that, he added, but they also pay their taxes and social security, work according to the law and are exposed to being sanctioned if they do not comply.

FIVE-TONNE SCULPTURE EXHIBITION IN GUARDAMAR Art comes in all shapes and sizes and for anyone heading to Guardamar before 7 October, it is unlikely that you’ll miss the latest exhibition “Monumental Sculptures”, which was inaugurated earlier this week. Internationally renowned Asturian sculptor, Juan Méjica Navía, has created seven threedimensional pieces out of copper and steel, measuring almost four metres high and weighing five tonnes. The giant pieces are all easily recognisable and include a bull, an Asturcón pony and a manshaped robot. The open-air exhibition is located in the pedestrian area of Calle Cervantes in Guardamar and will stay there until the beginning of October, after already being displayed in 40 Spanish cities since 2010.

FOOD HYGIENE INSPECTORS RAMP UP INSPECTIONS ON BARS AND RESTAURANTS It's not uncommon in this hot weather for the number of cases of severe food poisoning requiring medical attention to go up. And that's one of the reasons why food hygiene and safety inspectors from the Vega Baja's Department of Health will increase the number of establishments they visit in the area to carry out routine checks. While inspections are carried out throughout the year, it is during the summer period with high temperatures giving rise to a greater risk of contamination from bacteria and germs plus a lot more work for bar and restaurant staff than usual that safety measures and precautions might slip. José Cano, head of the Department of Public

Health in the Vega Baja, has reported that in 2018 a total of 7,500 inspections were carried out. From these visits, 6 per cent (450 establishments) were fined for failing to comply with the appropriate food safety standards, which Cano states is not any higher or lower than other areas in the Valencia Region and that generally the regulations are adhered to pretty well. For those places that prepare and sell food to the public that fail an inspection, they can face fines of in excess of 5,000€ or even closure in extremely bad cases. High on the list of things to inspect are quality of water and ingredients, cleaning and disinfection, pest

control and staff skills and qualifications. The majority of deficiencies usually involve poor food handling methods, substandard cleaning and incorrect food storage methods. Foods most susceptible to contamination and subsequent poisoning when consumed are fish, shellfish, chicken, fresh mayonnaise and eggs.

HUGGERS AND MUGGERS WARNING REVIVED As the popular tourist areas of our local region become crammed with holidaying visitors, there is always an increase in certain people we would all sooner never come across, opportunistic criminals who prey on the innocent. The usual warning has been issued for the summer to beware of these opportunistic thieves,

with two main modus operandi to watch out for, huggers and muggers.

The most common way the hugger works is through distraction, approaching their victim with a smile and a friendly greeting, often surprising their prey, and it is at this point the contact becomes more physical with a hug or sometimes just a handshake, which can so easily result in a necklace being removed, or a watch for example, without the wearer even knowing. The second most popular act is mugging, although this too takes on many forms. A simple distraction in a market for example can lead to a quick dip into your bag and your purse being taken without you being aware, or

sometimes a short bump and you find later your wallet has gone. Similarly, leaving your bags on a table, the floor or unattended, can all too frequently lead to them being snatched as the thieves run by, disappearing into the crowds, often discarding the less valuable items as they run. There are many other possibilities where innocent people become the victim of these distraction based crimes, but the best advice is to always be alert, keep your valuables safe, and never leave them unattended or on show. Remember, although you must carry your identity documents with you in Spain, your driving licence if you drive, you can get copies of these done at a Notary and then leave the originals at home in the safe if you wish, but only notarised copies are approved.

YOUNG BRIT DROWNS

A 36-year-old British woman died last Friday after suffering convulsions while she was swimming in the communal pool on her urbanisation in Entre Naranjos. The tragic accident took place around 1.30pm last Friday – the first day of the heatwave that lasted all weekend.

The Urgent Emergency Medical Services (SAMU) and the Guardia Civil from Almoradí were called to the scene but they were unable to resuscitate the victim, despite carrying out CPR for 45 minutes. The young woman is said to have a history of epilepsy, but it is unclear whether the convulsions and her subsequent death were due to an epileptic fit or, in fact, heatstroke from the extremely hot weather.

and Francisco Andreu Lafuente, the baritone Boris Zavudov and many more.

As always, there will be a variety of music being performed, with the best in opera, zarzuelas, musicals, habaneras and pop. Tickets are 10€ each and can be obtained two hours before the performance on the evening at the auditorium ticket office, via their website auditoriotorrevieja.com or from various outlets in Torrevieja.

TICKETS ON SALE FOR TORREVIEJA'S INTERNATIONAL HABANERAS COMPETITION This month, as is tradition, the city of Torrevieja will host one of the most important events of the year - the world-renowned International Habaneras and

Poliphony Competition.

This year's competition will take place between 22 and 28 July at the Eras de la Sal open-air concert arena. In this 65th edition, a total of 12 choirs from ten different countries will participate and compete against each other in a bid to win first place and the generous cash prize that goes with it. Last year's winner was the University Choir from the Philippines, with the female choir from Belarus and the University Choir of Bucaramanga, Columbia taking second and third positions respectively. While 12 choirs will compete in

this year's competition, only one of them originates from Spain – the Youth Choir of Madrid. Five local Torrevieja choirs will perform, however, in the closing ceremony, which takes place on the last day of the competition. This event is always well attended and has been declared of ‘International Tourist Interest' as well as being awarded a Medal of Cultural Merit from the Regional Valencia Government.

Torrevieja’s Guardia Civil have been extremely busy over the last few weeks and have arrested a total of eleven people of various nationalities for robberies carried out in the area. Ten of the eleven detained are currently in prison. The first to be arrested was a Bosnian woman who had broken into a caravan the owner was living in and taking items from inside. She is also being investigated for stealing a vehicle in France and changing the license plate to avoid detection. Following this, two men of Chilean origin were arrested for robberies carried out on homes in San Miguel de Salinas. They fled the scene of the crime after being startled and were chased by police through the streets of Torrevieja, where they were eventually arrested after putting up a fight and injuring several police officers in the process.

The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has announced that tickets are now on sale and will range from 7€ to 14€. For more information about how to acquire tickets, please visit http:// habaneras.org/en/taquilla-2/.

FRUIT AND VEG OF DUBIOUS ORIGIN Due to a crackdown on the prevention of robbery and theft from farms, agricultural areas and rural land, the ROCA section of Torrevieja's Guardia Civil have carried out 77 inspections on market stallholders in the Vega Baja area, which has resulted in 34 fines for administrative infractions.

Over the last couple of weeks,

The most serious crime took place in the back streets of Torrevieja behind the seafront, where a shop worker was threatened and intimidated into handing over money and goods. The perpetrator, supposedly of Senegalese origin, was arrested shortly after. Other arrests included a Ukrainian man for three robberies at different homes, a Russian man accused of two robberies, a Spaniard for another robbery and an Algerian man for breaking into two vehicles and stealing various items. Added to these is the arrest of a Spaniard who had fled to Torrevieja to hide after he was wanted for various crimes in Burgos and a 46-year-old Spanish woman accused of stealing expensive jewellery and a credit card with which she fraudulently used to purchase 5,000€ worth of goods from the lady she was looking after.

the ROCA team has visited local markets including Playa Flamenca, Almoradí, El Campico and el Fongón in Guardamar and La Murada-Orihuela, with the aim of detecting fruit and vegetables of dubious origin. As a result, a total of 34 stallholders have been fined for not having the correct paperwork and

documentation to prove where the goods they were selling had come from. Torrevieja's ROCA team has also arrested a man and woman from Cox after they were caught transporting a large generator worth 6,000€, which it turns out had been stolen from a goat farm in Albacete.

POLICE DOGS ON DRUGS PATROLS Local Police officers around the country are using their K9 companions to lead the fight against drug use, patrolling public spaces actively looking for people consuming narcotics. In Jumilla, the K9 units have been carrying out regular patrols through municipal areas such as the swimming pools, which has already proven successful and resulted in arrests. Tuesday was the most recent intervention, following a similar patrol at the weekend, when the police dog identified a man smoking a marijuana-laced cigarette and alerted the human officers to its presence. A subsequent search revealed 4 doses of marijuana, both at the poolside and in the changing rooms, and so the man was arrested and had the drugs confiscated.

SEA LION THERAPY

Sunshine News • Friday 5th July 2019

Data released by the Spanish government this week suggest that Spain will welcome 29.6 million tourists this summer, breaking previous records, and they will spend a staggering 34 billion euro whilst here. The number of visitors expected in the third quarter, from July to the end of September, represents an increase of 1.7% on the previous year, spending 3.2% more than in 2018.

This is of course great news for business and the country on a whole, despite some scaremongering still taking place in various platforms, nothing seems to be putting off visitors from coming to the sunshine with their pockets loaded with cash. The information is according to the acting Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, who detailed the figures in a press conference at the department´s headquarters in Madrid.

Maroto highlighted the role of the tourism industry in the creation of wealth and employment in Spain. "We have worked hard these months looking for a more sustained and profitable tourist destination," said the acting departmental head.

Maroto has also shown satisfaction with the data in the first months of the year, in which Spain received 29.35 million international tourists, 2.7% more than in the same period of 2018. In addition to May, the expense of international tourists in their trips to Spain amounted to almost

30,7 billion euro, with an increase of 3.8% over the same period of 2018. Again, despite some English news sources scaremongering over potential, though not threatened attacks in Barcelona, Catalonia received the more visitors in the first five months of the year than any other area, with 6.7 million visitors, although Madrid showed the highest increase with a growth of more than 10.1%. In fact, it is only the Canary Islands where tourism has declined from January to May, down by -2.1%, mostly due to a reduction in German visitors.

On the outskirts of Elche lies an enchanted place, full of mysterious animals, and some who are destined to offer help to humankind. It is one such species which has been doing a job for

over a decade, providing therapy to thousands of humans. Since the program began in 2006, some 3,300 people have participated in sea lion therapy at the Rio Safari animal park, and bookings are being taken now for this season´s event. Throughout the summer months vulnerable

groups from local areas are invited to the centre to take part in the therapy program, in the hope of improving their social interactivity through bonding with the loving creatures.

Intensive therapies involving users in homogeneous groups, depending on their pathology, began on 24 June and are continuing throughout the summer. It is planned that seven groups will be formed that will enjoy one or two weeks of bathing with sea lions as intensive therapy.

THE HEALING POWER OF TURMERIC Turmeric is a plant that is found in tropical parts of the world, although most of it these days is grown in India, where it is one of the main spices used to make curry. While it is most well-known for its culinary uses, turmeric has been used in Indian and Chinese medicine for around 5,000 years due to its wide range of healing properties. What is turmeric? Turmeric is a bright orangeyellow spice that comes from the Curcuma longa plant - a member of the ginger family. The dried, aromatic, root-like stem of the yellow-flowering

plant is ground down to form a powder, and this is what we recognise as turmeric. The main active component of turmeric is curcumin, which is said to have more than 100 pharmacological properties. It is said to help with a number of conditions including Alzheimer's disease, IBS and type-2 diabetes. It is also known to help boost the immune system, reduce stress, fight against cancer, reduce the risk of heart disease and has age-reversing properties, is an anti-depressant, an anti-inflammatory and a powerful antioxidant.

What does it do?

Turmeric has powerful antioxidant properties similar to those of vitamins C and E. It is able to help protect against damage that can be caused by free radicals in the body and it is said it can prevent cancer, particularly cancer in the colon and mouth. When applied to the skin, as they do in India, turmeric can relieve the pain caused by inflammation, especially in shoulder, knee and elbow joints. Studies have shown that it also stimulates the body's natural ability to produce cortisone, easing the pain associated with rheumatoid

arthritis and osteoarthritis. While turmeric and curcumin are most well-known for their anti-inflammatory and anticarcinogenic properties, they have also been found to help protect the liver, lower cholesterol levels and boost antioxidants in the body. It also has a positive effect on the gastrointestinal system, helping with indigestion, bloating, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, stomach pain, stomach ulcers and wind. How to take it Turmeric can be taken orally in powder, tablet or capsule form or it can be applied to

the skin as a cream or lotion. The recommended dose of turmeric is between 500mg and 1000mg per day. This is of the root extract, which contains 95% curcuminoids. As an anti-inflammatory, you can take three 300mg capsules a day with meals. If you want to add turmeric to your meals and drinks for preventative measures, add 1 1/2 tsp of dried root powder a day. For the best results, take turmeric with fats and black pepper or a black pepper supplement, as this helps absorption.

Dear Davina... Dear Davina, I am so fed up with my next-door neighbour, he will not stop feeding the feral cats, they have become pets to him! I am an animal lover myself so I do understand that he is trying to do the best for them, but it is not fair that I have to clean up their muck on a daily basis. They are now wandering into my garden and I have grandchildren due to stay with me in a couple of weeks, so I need to get this sorted! Anon. Dear reader, Well, while your neighbour thinks he is being kind, it is not the best solution. However, I think most would agree it has to be better than letting them starve. I think you need to have a talk with him and ask some questions... Is he prepared to adopt these animals longterm? This would give him permanent responsibility for their lives and health, including neutering.

Let’s face it, he has already made a commitment to them by feeding them from the start. Is he also aware how his decision to feed them now involves you, being that they now use your property to do their business! Is he prepared to spend time training them to get them ‘clean’ or in fact clean your garden for you! Will he also be dedicated pay regular visits to the vets? To make initial checks that these animals are free from disease, infections or any other conditions that they could be suffering from?

I wish you luck and hope you get this problem solved quickly so you can enjoy your time with your family. Love Davina xxx

If the answer to these questions is clearly ‘no’ then I think it would only be fair to let experienced people make the right decision. Here on the Costa Blanca, we have some wonderful people and charities who give up their own time to deal with cases just like this. These people will always do the most humane thing possible and are sure to give your neighbour the best advice possible.

Please note: Feeding feral cats and other wild animals & birds may be against the law in your town. Please check with your local town hall for rules applicable in your area.

WHAT IS AN ADDICTION? Many of us have an addiction that we just cannot seem to shake off. And to make matters worse, having an addiction seems to be an almost acceptable part of being in the world today. But underneath social acceptability, those of us that have an addiction, struggle with acceptance on a personal level. With addiction comes shame and blame, an internal struggle that just won't go away and almost always confusion as to why we have it. Not to mention health, finance and emotional cost.

that are more fitting. Being part of a family and group gives us a sense of being connected, accepted and loved, but if we have parts of us we don't like or we feel uncomfortable with, addictions can become a valuable resource we indulge in. Addictions are a quick and easy fix to not feeling our true feelings, they soften loneliness, insecurity and isolation, but they are not sustainable. They also help us to connect with our feeling sense. They make us feel different, alive and

There are many programs we can undertake to overcome an addiction and it is certainly achievable, but most of them do not embrace the real cause. Connection to ourselves as human beings is a really important aspect of our lives. It means living in our truth, regardless of its perceived ugliness. It means embracing just who we are, not trying to be anyone else. But if we have experienced severe pain and trauma, there are parts of us that develop in negative ways. Parts of us that we don't want others to be aware of. Pain that we feel we cannot show and so we dampen it down in order to be and connect with others in ways

alleviate numbness. But again are not without consequences long term. Over time addiction becomes a behaviour, it is just something we do, instead of being a conscious decision based on how we want to experience life. And the more we practice it the more instilled it becomes. I wanted to write about addictions

by Nicola Farnhill Connected to Self today because I wanted to present a different take on them. To allow those of you who suffer in the throes of your addiction a perspective that may just help you to see the path out. Awareness is the first key, awareness of when we started to practice our addiction and what was going around that time. How disconnected from yourself and others did you feel at that time? A desire to change is the second key. Most of us have to feel pretty fed up with ourselves and at the end of our tether before we will make the decision to change. And the desire to change means you will put in the necessary effort. Having the skills and tools to change is vital also. If we have tried many times and failed, its because we don't have the right tools. Just like trying to do a job we haven't done before. Without the right knowledge and expertise, failure is imminent. Feeling worthy of change is also imperative when enforcing change on a permanent basis. Without self-worth why would we even try?

rejected for who we are because of our past, creates in us a stronger desire to indulge in our addiction, as the pain of lack of connection grows daily. And the only way to overcome this is to be vulnerable in who you are and reach out to make connections regardless of your fear. So in our quest to overcome our addictions, we must ask ourselves this viral questionWhat feeling are we wanting to not feel and what feeling do we want to feel? For me, a large part always lies in connection, not only to ourselves but in connection to others. As always, here’s hoping you have a wonderful week!

DROP QUOTE Drop Quotes

In Drop Quotes the goal is for the solver to uncover a hidden quote. A black-and-white crossword-style grid is set up for each quote, with a number of letters “hovering” above each column. Your task is to “drop” each of those letters into the appropriate square in each column, until the entire quote is revealed. All punctuation (commas, periods, dashes, etc.) has been removed. Good luck!

EFFICIENT AIR-CON USE Driving through the hot summer months can be a daunting prospect, especially for long distances, and the tendency to switch the air conditioning on might be greater, but with air-con use comes higher fuel consumption and more expense. However, keeping cool is a must when driving, as lack of concentration and discomfort caused by heat can be problematic. The good news is that if you follow some simple top tips, you can get the benefits of cool air without the added expense. Use the air con in the winter Okay, it´s a little late to tell you this now, but using the air con occasionally throughout the year ensures that it is working properly when you get to summer. If there is a fault you might want to get it checked out sooner rather than later. Reduce the interior

CHRISTOPHER'S RESTAURANT FOR FINE DINING

Tonight I had the pleasure of dining at Christopher's Restaurant in Urbanization Mar Azul.

And a total pleasure it was! Lovely friendly staff in the form of Sergio and Lucy who were serving in front of house this evening.

My companion tonight was Ange E. She is my red meat and seafood taster!

dish but it can go horribly wrong in the hands of an inexperienced chef!

We started with pea and ham soup which was served at a lovely temperature and presented beautifully with chunks of gammon ham to die for. Ange E had the lobster thermadore gratin, delicate little pieces of heaven she said after she polished it all off!

I am pleased to say, that was not the case tonight, lovely flavours and the potato dauphinoise was the best I have ever had here in Spain.

There was a nice time gap between the starters and main, of which I had ordered lemon and cracked black pepper chicken, it may seem like a plain

Ange E had a new dish for her which was venison; I asked if it was Deer? She said "no it was quite reasonably priced" She relished every mouthful and plates were cleaned completely, being ladies we did not lick them clean! Although could have quite happily had the restaurant not filled up so quickly. Onto desserts, they don't get the attention that the starters and mains often do in most restaurants.

found it immaculate as were Neil, Jay, Bernie and Ed, the very talented kitchen staff. The Hallisey Family and O´Sullivan family from Ireland are frequent visitors to Christophers Restaurant and said "they could not recommend the place any more highly" I agree, neither could myself or Ange E. We will be returning soon especially to try their very popular Sunday lunch. This beautifully presented hidden gem of a restaurant is worth seeking out again and again. Open from 6 pm Tuesday till Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm till 4.30pm. If you fancy something a little Spanish, they also have a tapas area and live music events. You can reserve your table now on 600 012 824. Reviewed by Carla Stone and Ange E

They were good, but being girls, extra flair on the sweet stuff always pleases. Saying that they were exactly what they said on the menu and very enjoyable! The pricing is very well done and easy to follow on their extensive menu and after having a tour of the kitchen I

LANDMARK SCOOTER CASE SENTENCED

category B also permits the driving of the scooter on the road. The driver, identified with the initials FJGR, was therefore found guilty of the offence and sentenced to 32 days of community service, as well as liability for the costs of the court case.

Following on from our article in last weeks paper regarding certain electric scooters being confiscated by local police in Lepe, the first of the cases has reached court, resulting in a shock for the driver. Despite the fact that many companies are still offering these vehicles for sale or for rent claiming that you don´t need a driving licence, the recent change in the law (which we explained last week) says otherwise. Furthermore, if you drive a vehicle on the road and you don´t have a driving licence then it constitutes a criminal

offence, for which you can be arrested and locked up, not just facing a fine and points, but an appearance before the judge, which was the case with this first batch of scooters withdrawn. There was no doubt under the law that the vehicle required registration, insurance and corresponding documentation, and that the driver was required to be in possession of a licence for the vehicle, and so the case proceeded as an offence of driving a motor vehicle without the corresponding administrative authorisation. In this case, the minimum licence would be a category AM licence, although a

Although this was the first case to reach the courts, it will not be the last, and should serve as a warning to anyone who has or is considering buying or hiring one of these scooters. If they are capable of more than 25 kilometres per hour, or exceed 1,000W in power, then it must be of a type approved for use in Spain, and must be registered. That means it will then be given a number plate the same as a moped, or a microcar, and will be issued with an ITV card as well as vehicle logbook. The electric scooter must then undergo an ITV test once it is 3 years old, then every 2 years, just like a moped. The rider must have a driving licence for category AM (mopeds) or B (cars) and insurance is mandatory, as is the wearing of properly approved safety equipment suitable for a moped, because the vehicles are classed in the same group, they are simply mopeds powered by an electric motor.

CIPRIANI GETS HIS ENGLAND CHANCE Danny Cipriani has been named in England's 31-man squad for their second World Cup training camp. The Gloucester fly-half, who was named Premiership player of the year last season, has not been involved in an England training squad since his arrest for assault in Jersey last year. Cipriani is included along with Gloucester team-mates Ollie Thorley and Willi Heinz, the New Zealand-born scrumhalf who qualifies through his English grandmother. Kyle Sinckler has been dropped along with Harlequins teammate Marcus Smith. Eddie

Jones says "it is in their best interests" to return to their club next week but will be still considered for the World Cup in Japan.

Northampton duo Courtney Lawes and Piers Francis are called into the camp, which takes place at The Lensbury Hotel between the 3rd and 6th July. The injured trio of Jack Nowell, George Kruis and Mako Vunipola all remain with the squad as they continue their rehabilitation. Jones will name his official World Cup training squad on July 5 and will include players from Premiership

finalists Saracens and Exeter Chiefs, who must complete a mandatory five-week rest period. England play two warmup games against Wales on August 11 and 17, followed by matches against Ireland and Italy on August 24 and September 6 respectively. All four fixtures are live on Sky

The story of the day has to belong to Reg Akehurst, who on the eve of his 90th birthday, took 5th place with 34 points. Is this some sort of record? If anyone knows otherwise please contact us via our website: lasramblasgolfsociety. com There were two ‘2's today coming from Richard Connock and Alan Douglas.

DE GEA OFFERED NEW AND IMPROVED DEAL Manchester United have made an improved contract offer to goalkeeper David de Gea this week. The Red Devils are desperate to negotiate with the shot-stopper and have offered him yet

another tempting deal. Marcus Rashford this week committed his long-term future at Old Trafford by signing a

200,000 a week deal and the club is attempting to persuade the Spain goalkeeper to do similar. Negotiations with De Gea dragged along all last season, with demands around the deal holding things up despite the

goalkeeper's apparent desire to remain at a club he joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

The situation is becoming more pressing as the 28-year-old is out of contract next summer and United have made another offer as discussions over a new deal continue. De Gea has been strongly linked with a move to Paris SaintGermain and Juventus, while links to Real Madrid are never far from the surface after going so close to moving to the Bernabeu in 2015. It is set to be an exciting s u m m e r of transfers and negotiating.
