NEW RADAR APPEARS ON TORREVIEJA STRETCH OF N-332
The Department of Public Works has installed a new radar on the Torrevieja stretch of the N-332, just past the access to the salt lakes in the direction of Cartagena between Kilometres 56 and 57. With an average of 43,000 vehicles passing this part of the N-332 a day (more than 50,000 in summer), it is already one of the most saturated stretches of this busy road, with vehicles remaining
at a standstill for up to 12 hours a day in summer, although these days traffic is bad all year round. With drivers barely managing 60 kilometres an hour on this part of the road during much of the year, it's difficult to understand why a speed radar is required, especially as another speed camera was introduced in 2017 at Kilometre 54.

IMPORTED VEHICLES
The town hall of Torrevieja has become the latest municipality in Spain to install public ashtrays in its streets, intending to do away with the image of cigarette-butt-filled roads and pavements. To start off with, around 30 ashtrays have been installed in the town centre as part of a pilot scheme to see whether they work and reduce the number of cigarette ends that
DOCUMENTS appear on our DUPLICATE streets. CHANGES OF SERVICE The ashtrays are metal VEHICLES AGRICULTURAL and silver in colour and have been attached to MOVIL various lampposts on Calle Ramón Gallud, the 968 193 035 main high street, and nearby pedestrianised roads in the centre. If positive results are seen over the next two weeks, the town hall plans to obtain a further 100 ashtrays which they will attach to lampposts in other busy parts of the town centre.

The radar is easy to spot as it sits on a block of concrete inside a triangular base, and with a solar panel on top of the radar itself. Both parts of the N-332 in which the radar and camera have been placed have been notorious for accidents and even deaths in the past. Therefore, it is highly likely that the devices are for preventative measures rather than to sanction drivers.

FREE TO ROAM Emergency repair work to the wooden walkway by the beach at La Mata has now been completed, and the walkway has been fully reopened to
the public.
Areas of the wooden walkway had become dangerous underfoot and there were numerous iron railings in danger of
collapse along Avenida de los Españoles, in the section between Avenida de los Europeos and Avenida de Holanda. The work began at the start of the month after the walkways had fallen into disrepair since they were first installed.

For the sixteenth year running, Steve and Irene-Maria Campbell will be leading the Club at La Siesta Church beginning on Thursday 25th July at 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Three people were seriously injured in a traffic accident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning on Avenida Gregorio Marañón in the centre of Torrevieja.
The accident was caused as one vehicle, which was heading out of town towards Cartagena, veered out of its lane and collided with a second vehicle, causing
the first to crash into the side of a building in the Acequión area.
The three occupants of the car were seriously injured in the process. They were attended to at the scene of the accident by the SAMU emergency a c c i d e n t services team
MAGNETS began in 2004 in the Campbell's apartment with just three sisters in attendance. Since then it has grown and over the past 16 years around 300 children have attended, with many returning year after year. There have always been new children coming each year so Steve and IreneMaria are looking forward to seeing new faces as well as familiar friends.
The iron railings have been completely eliminated and the walkway repaired, all completed in record time just before the busiest time of the summer season.

DEADLINE LOOMS FOR QUESADA FIESTA REGISTRATION Quesada will be celebrating in traditional party mood next weekend, with the Traditional “Charanga” being held in honour of San Justo, the patron of Ciudad
Quesada.
There will be a multicoloured and multicultural parade on Saturday 3 August, starting at 10:00 p.m. from Avenida de las Naciones, and everyone is welcomed to take part, with cash prizes up for grabs for the best. However, in order to participate in the parade, you have to register in advance, and the registration period closes on Monday, 29 July. People of all ages can participate and registration can be done at the Tourist Information Office. The festivities will be taking place between 2 and 4 of August, and so you should also expect some road closures in the area, although if previous years are anything to go
by the slight inconvenience will be nothing compared to the fun to be had. If you do want to register you will have to complete a simple form, including the name, identity and telephone number of the group leader, and each group must have at least 4 people involved. Well worth making the effort though as first prize is 400 euro, 200 for second prize and 150 for third. Judging will be done based on the originality, creativity and original design of the costumes, as well as the best choreography, although humour also plays a big part and the funniest costumes will definitely score higher.

TOLL FREEDOM REJECTED It was announced this month that the AP-7 toll motorway north of Alicante would be free from January 1, as will many of the other toll roads once the contract with the private operators running them expires, but this latest news has been called nothing more than ‘symbolic’ by one of the biggest business groups in the area. It must be pointed out that the recent news referred to the section of toll road from San Juan in Alicante to Tarragona, and does not remove the tolls on the section of the motorway near La Zenia. The Institute of Economic Studies of the Province, INECA, has called for an urgent report into additional investment that will be needed for the road once it becomes liberated, as there will be a significant increase in traffic, which they think may be so great that it
will require the motorway to be widened.
INECA, which has evaluated the consequences of each scenario, maintains that the liberation has its “cons, despite the fact that the average user appreciates” the de-privatization of the road. Rafael Ballester, president of INECA, is also concerned that, “The investments of the AP7 should not replace other priority needs of the province” For their part, the biggest hotel association in the province, HOSBEC, have called the announcement “symbolic”, and maintain their rejection of the liberalisation. Its president, Toni Mayor, believes that such “traffic
STABBING IN SANTA POLA A Young male, said to be 18-years-old, was injured at the weekend in a stabbing incident in Santa Pola.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, with the victim receiving puncture wounds to the lung and kidney. The man was taken to hospital in a serious, though not life threatening condition.
The emergency services received a call at 05:48, saying that there had been a stabbing following a fight between two males, both of Spanish nationality and residents of Elche. Officers from the Guardia Civil arrested a second male, said to be a minor, as the suspected perpetrator of the stabbing.

AGEING POPULATION IN ALICANTE PROVINCE MAJOR CONCERN FOR SOCIOLOGISTS
Sunshine News • Friday 26th July 2019
UNCARING CARERS STEAL PENSIONER’S LIFE SAVINGS
The Guardia Civil of Almoradí have arrested two people for illegally appropriating more than 200,000€ from an elderly Swiss lady, aged 97, that they were supposedly looking after. Over a period of six years, between 2012 and 2018, the fraudsters – a Spanish lady, now deceased, employed to look after the victim, her 30-yearold son and the employee’s 57-yearold partner – siphoned the money from the victim’s bank account into up to five accounts they had opened themselves to continuously move the stolen money around.
With an ageing population in many towns within the Alicante Province, it’s not surprising that sociologists and demographers are now voicing their concerns about what this could mean for the future if this trend is not reversed. It has now come to the point where the number of deaths is substantially higher than the number of births in a growing number of municipalities. According to data from the National Statistics Institute, the municipalities of Torrevieja, Orihuela, Elda, Alcoy and even Alicante have registered negative natural growth balances, although in the case of Alicante this is counter-balanced by the favourable migration rate. Experts say the statistics are particularly worrying because as well as
the falling birth rate in practically every municipality within the province, figures show that women are gradually leaving it longer before they have their first child – a phenomena that has become more pronounced over the last decade. The influx of large numbers of people who have retired, for example in areas such as Orihuela Costa, is also a factor that greatly influences the natural growth balance in a negative way, says Alicante University sociologist Raúl Ruiz. The natural growth rate of the Vega Baja is currently -123, which is a significant change from the +94 registered 20 years ago. Torrevieja presents a similar figure of -150, which translates as 150 more deaths than births each year. However,
the
worst
figure in the whole of the province has been recorded in Alcoy, with -212, and experts attribute this to the mass exodus of young people who left the town to move to larger cities and other areas in search of employment. The largest natural growth rate is found in the city of Elche, at +449. Strangely, Alicante has a negative figure of -117 despite registering 1,000 more births than Elche. The only municipality in the Alicante province to improve on its figures is Sant Vicent del Raspeig, which has increased the number of births from 370 in 1996 to 544 in 2017. Sociologists say that more must be done to keep young people from moving away and that we must take the focus away from making the area most attractive to people in the upper-age brackets.
By the time the victim realised that all her savings were missing, she was badly in debt and her neighbours were paying her living costs as she had no family nearby to help. Even her private health insurance had been cancelled due to defaulting on the monthly payments.
It appeared that the criminals had taken advantage of the victim’s age, her inability to speak and understand Spanish, no close family and her lack of knowledge of the banking system in this country to add their names as authorised users to her bank account. Part of the stolen money was used to buy a luxury car and to build a property. The victim thankfully alerted the Guardia Civil in July last year and the two surviving con artists were arrested and now await trial, being charged with an account of continuous bank fraud and another of forgery.

UNCERTAINTY FOR HOLIDAY APARTMENT RENTAL BOOKINGS THIS SUMMER This summer, the tourist property rental sector - legal and illegal - is expected to generate around 800 million euro on the Costa Blanca, according to a study carried out by the University of Salamanca.
the same number of days they can take off work a year, but now they tend to prefer to spread their days off and holidays throughout the year rather than taking them all at once during the summer.
More than half this total amount (500 million euro) will be paid out on accommodation, while the remainder will be spent at the chosen destination. Within the Alicante province, the average top price paid for renting a holiday apartment for a week is 780€, and this is for a first-line apartment on Benidorm’s Levante Beach, according to Tecnicasa. With Benidorm offering the most expensive holiday rental prices, slightly less expensive apartments and villas can be found in la Playa de San Juan de Alicante, Torrevieja, Xàbia, Dénia y Calp, Santa Pola and El Campello respectively.
These days, apartments are no longer rented for a whole month as was typical several years back, and the norm is generally one week, and not necessarily from Sunday to Sunday, which has made it more awkward for owners to ensure their property is fully booked every day during the
peak season. Property owners have reported a strange start to the month of July and reports even show that a 5-per-cent drop in occupation levels is expected from last year, which reached 75 per cent that month. Nevertheless,
August
and
September are forecast to be better months, with an increase in around 10 per cent in bookings and occupation levels. As with hotels, tourist apartments will experience similar problems. These days, holidaymakers are still given
Holiday apartment owners are probably in for an uncertain period this summer for a number of different reasons. Despite reaching maximum occupation levels in 2017, the sector has seen a slight drop in figures each year since. This is partly due to the recuperation of other tourist markets in the Mediterranean, the increase in new buildings and the sudden flourish of holiday apartments that are now being legally advertised due to their owners applying for and gaining their tourist license. Tourist accommodation platform Booking.com has gone from advertising 800 apartments in 2018 to 1,300 in 2019.

Problems on Ryanair Flight The Ryanair flight FR9079 from Leeds Bradford on Monday 22nd July was disrupted by drunken unruly behaviour that upset passengers and crew on the afternoon flight. The excellently trained staff needed all their skills and training to deal with the incident. Loud and verbally aggressive behaviour deteriorated into the man refusing to sit in his seat, even when firmly told by staff to do so. The situation deteriorated when the man started shouting there were terrorists on board and wanted to open the emergency exit, then banging on the windows and the side of the plane. At this point, the man
was restrained in his seat with cabin staff sitting on either side of him. Upon arrival at Alicante airport, the Guardia Civil boarded the plane and quickly removed the man. Roz Hughes who was sitting behind the abusive man had nothing but praise for the actions of the cabin staff and how they took control of a situation that had caused considerable distress Other members of the Stag party couldn’t apologise enough for the unacceptable behaviour. They realised that there was no alternative but the arrest and detaining of the culprit and most wanted to completely separate themselves from the behaviour.

SPAIN MOST POPULAR WITH RYANAIR PASSENGERS According to low-cost airline Ryanair and the results of its Summer Trends survey, Alicante is one of the top three tourist destinations chosen by its passengers this summer.
In order of preference, the three most popular destinations of Ryanair passengers are Mallorca, Alicante and Malaga. Nevertheless, families travelling with the airline showed a
surprising change of preferred location when it came to choosing their holiday destination, and this year they opted for Cyprus, Tel Aviv and Lanzarote as their favourites. With regards to couples, the top three holiday destinations booked are Ibiza, Mallorca and Tenerife, while students chose Zadar, Barcelona and Seville. The survey has shown that Spain is the most popular country to visit this summer, however, there has been an increase in the popularity of other lesser well-known destinations such as Tel Aviv and Zadar in Croatia, which is quite surprising.

No Reservations! You may have an idea of beating the rush to the beach by getting up early and reserving your space, but be warned, if you do, you could face a fine in the process. Elche Local Police have issued a warning to beachgoers that you are not allowed to leave parasols or chairs unattended on the beach. If you do so, you could be 300 euro out of pocket as the police can fine you for the violation and dispose of your equipment at the same time.
Although this warning has come from Elche, it is not exclusive to that municipality. Different local ordinances are in place in different municipalities, so it is always worth checking the local laws and reading the signs that tell you when the beaches are open, as many of them also close for cleaning at certain times, usually early in the morning.
Turning up the Heat As the temperature of the world around us is increasing through the summer months, one thing seems inevitable, that the price of butane gas will drop at the time when we need it least. That is once again the case, as the standard price of a gas cylinder is now 12.78 euro, a drop of 3.1% since the last price revision in May, when it cost 13.18 euro. In fact, since the winter, it is the fourth consecutive drop, from the 15.33 euro cost in November last year. The price now is actually the lowest since November 2016, when a bottle cost 12.29 euro, but still way above the price of July, 2009, when it cost just 10.58 euro. The highest price recorded was 17.50 euro between 2013 and 2015. Despite the summer drop in prices, many consumer associations still claim that the cost is too high, and are calling on the government to revise the price structure instruments to better reflect the needs of the end consumer.

Dear Davina... anyway, so he really shouldn’t be parking on to this.
Dear Davina, I am hoping you will be able to give me some indication of how best to deal with a situation on our urbanisation.
Our neighbourhood is growing very tired of this hazard and despite polite comments, he continues to park in this fashion.
One of the residents has downsized his driveway to accommodate his house extension. Consequently, this has created the smallest of driveways, which would barely cover the space required for a golf buggy.
What should we do next before an accident occurs or a car gets smashed?
However, he is still insistent of using this space as a driveway for his car which now protrudes out into the roadway.
Dear Reader,
This results in major obstruction for passing cars and the neighbourhood as drivers cautiously try to manoeuvre their way past. There are cars parked directly opposite his property by his surrounding neighbours and it is extremely difficult to pass by from both directions. To top it all off, his side has a single yellow line on it
Anon
First and foremost, what if a person gets hit! It sounds like a dangerous situation indeed. This said person doesn’t have a leg to stand on here, he is breaking the law and it is a simple as that! You cannot park on a single yellow line. It was his choice to extend his property and his choice to lose a parking space. He has to deal with the consequences and find a safe place to park. I would suggest you take this up with the president of your urbanisation and demand it to be dealt

FORGIVENESS I am writing this after someone I held close to my heart, hurt me.
Probably not the best time to write about forgiveness, but I love a challenge! Most of us have struggled and maybe still do struggle with forgiveness. And I am sure you will agree in the grand scheme of things, it's a biggy. So why should we forgive and not seek revenge? Why should we let go of whatever ill has been done to us and plot and scheme a big comeback?
Forgetting is not necessarily something we have to focus too hard on, I tend to think that time sees to forgetting. As we experience new things every day and make new memories the past tends to get blurry and events just fade away, until someone or something reminds us of them. But forgiveness needs to be intentional, we need to
that if we embrace the lesson and learn from it we are no longer beholden to it. So what about forgiving ourselves? This can also be a great challenge when we find ourselves behaving in ways we later regret. As human beings, we have the ability to berate and punish ourselves for hours, days, weeks, months and sometimes even years.
Today I forgive myself for my past, a part of my life, that I had no control over. I choose to learn how it has manifested itself in my life, how the pain I suffered created behaviours and expectations that are not realistic when associating with others, I choose to change and take on a different perspective.
At the end of the day, most of us are doing the best we can with the capabilities and awareness that we have at any given time.
Surely someone that has done us wrong has no place occupying our minds.
When we tell others about how someone has wronged us, it only leads to creating a victim state within us. It also keeps the pain and story alive...and why on earth would we do that?
by Nicola Farnhill Connected to Self
I also choose to forgive those that will never know how much they meant to me, just because they aren't me. Because they have had different life experiences to me and are therefore different people.
Well, I believe that the energy we expend and the hours we apply to mulling over what someone has done to us only allows for the hurt to linger. And if we are really here on earth to create our own happiness, then what is the point in keeping ourselves in a place of pain and suffering?
You see holding onto a past that we cannot change is totally a thankless task, it serves neither us or the people around us.
Sunshine News • Friday 26th July 2019
work on it and allow past hurts to soften and fade. If you struggle with forgiveness it may help you to think about the concept that, the universe only brings into our lives people and events that will either enhance our lives or teach us something. With this concept comes a sense of accepting more easily a situation, with the knowing
But again what is the point, when we cannot undo what has been done. Instead, why do we not focus on an apology where one is due, or make a promise to ourselves that we will change a behaviour and not repeat it in the future. Surely positive action is a lot better than torturing ourselves.
We can choose to grow and change or we can stay stuck with attitudes, thought's and behaviour's that don't serve us. Take a moment today to think whether you are holding onto something from the past if forgiveness is something that you could practice in order
to give yourself more peace and let go of things that no longer serve you. Have a wonderful week, until next time! Much love Nicola

JUICING FOR YOUR HEALTH
Fads, especially those related to food, come and go, but juicing, thankfully, is one of those that is likely to stay. As well as being a fantastic way of ensuring that you get your recommended five-a-day, juicing fruit and vegetables is extremely beneficial to your health.
Many nutritionists advocate consuming raw fruit and veg over cooking them because cooking methods, in particular frying and boiling, deplete many of the valuable nutrients found within. Raw food is much easier to digest as well.
certainly do outweigh the negatives.
Once you start juicing you'll notice a boost in your energy levels; your skin, hair, and nails will increase in vitality; and your immune system will also benefit. In addition, fruits are extremely efficient in giving the body a deep cleansing from within. This is because fruit contains a certain amount of acid, which acts as a cleansing
substance. For example, malic acid, which is found in apples, peaches, lemons, plums, prunes and apricots, is a natural antiseptic, useful for cleansing the liver, kidneys, intestines and stomach. Out of all of the fruits, lemons are probably the most powerful and the most efficient at cleaning the body from the inside. Now, let's get to the juicing. You can juice almost any
fruit or vegetable, although some are preferred more than others for their flavour and for the amount of liquid that they produce. You should, however, try to include a wide variety of different fruits and vegetables so that you can gain the benefit from each one.
Certain fruits and vegetables make great combinations such as apple and kiwi or carrot, apple and mango, whilst
No one likes to eat plain raw carrots or solitary raw cabbage on a daily basis, no matter how healthy they like to think themselves, therefore juicing is an excellent way to be creative with your raw produce.

others have been put together by health specialists for their positive effects on the body. Before we offer you a few recipes to try out yourself, please take note of the following advice. Start off slowly and don't go mad on the juicing until your body gets used to the effects – it's powerful stuff. Consume the juice as quickly as possible after making it. Potent vegetables such as broccoli, watercress, and beetroot should be diluted, as they are too strong to drink on their own. Do not drink homemade juices if you suffer from any of the following: diabetes, obesity, bowel disorder, candida or gastritis. Use the freshest ingredients available.
Yes, preparing the fruit and veg before they are juiced can be time-consuming, and the amount of juice received from squeezing the living daylights out of a pound of carrots will make you wonder whether it's worth it, but the benefits

REMEMBER YOUR DOG THIS SUMMER Italian car manufacturer Fiat is the latest company to try to educate pet owners that it is possible to have a summer holiday with your extended four-legged family, without having to resort to abandoning them. It is a common occurrence throughout the summer that animals get abandoned by their human companions so that they can take their summer holiday albeit with total disregard to the welfare of the animals. Many companies in the past have launched campaigns to try to alleviate the problem, and this year it is Fiat who has launched their "Happy Dogs" campaign.

N332 Congestion Reaches Madrid announced its Happy Dogs project within its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, a project focused on the recovery and welfare of abandoned dogs to facilitate their adoption. Throughout its development, the Happy Dogs project has been able to count on the collaboration of entities such as Bayer, Hospital Veterinario Retiro and Gosbi, in order to be able to serve all the dogs that are found in their initially chosen shelters.

As part of the project, Fiat donated the shelters with brand new vans, namely an eco-friendly Fiat Dobló Cargo powered by Natural Gas to cover all of its transport needs. If you would like to see some of the dogs who are now happier thanks to the collaboration, there is a website, otrabellezacanina.es.

I had a wee coffee with local legend Nikki G. I asked her how did she start. I started singing at an early age in school productions and the choir although I never really realised what a gift I had. My first recognition came when I was only 14 and a local businessman was starting a record label and saw me as a local talent that could potentially go somewhere. Dan moved from Cornwall to Spain with his family at the young age of fourteen. The family moved for a better quality of life. He is one of five siblings and is now living here with his girlfriend Jade, he says he never stops laughing when they are together, she is his perfect companion and he loves spending time with her. His big influences in life are Robbie Williams as he was the inspiration
behind his career in singing and he would love to sit and chat to Sir Stephen Fry as he has so many questions to ask him he would be very happy if Sir Paul McCartney could join them as well. Being a big fan of Plymouth Argyle, one of his fondest memories was seeing them clinch the league title from QPR with all his family. He is such a big supporter of this team that when offered a
superpower he said he would wish he had the power to make them a better team. He would love to go to Las Vegas to watch a title fight or watch England win a world cup. Dan also likes to play tennis and golf. He loves Chicken Madras and hates Snakes; he also has a weird phobia of cats. Dan hopes to see more of the world and become more like his dad who he describes
as ridiculously laid back, nothing phases him, he is always there for everyone and very supportive. Dan is a descendant of the famous inventor Sir Humphrey Davy. He invented the miner’s safety lamp, aka: the Davy lamp!
found employment I spent a lot of time in the local bars and got into the spirit of local karaoke. I never intended to do it as a profession but I was given a break by Glen Matthews who ran The Lansdowne in Playa Flamenca, he told me if I got my own gear and expanded my repertoire he would give me a gig. So challenge accepted I bought a PA system and the rest is history. Eddie Wallace gave me the opportunity to do a Musical show. This was such a success that when Eddie moved away Stevie Spit asked if he could do the show with me.

HAKUNA MATATA! It looks like it will mean no worries for the rest of your days that Disney are promoting their latest cinema release, after the problem-free philosophy of Hakuna Matata that surrounds the remake of The Lion King has broken box office records in Spain. The remake of the classic animation, first released some 25 years ago, features “live action” characters portraying the original story of the lion cub born to be King. During the premiere weekend, the box offices took 6.3 million euro, making it the best
opening of any film so far this year in Spain. Not only that, The Lion King has been the most successful July premiere in the history of Spanish cinema, with 1.2 million people being brought to tears by the emotional story. Collectively, the average amount taken by each cinema is 15,562 euro, with an average of 2,398 people visiting each picture house in that first weekend to see the film. In just 4 days, the film already made it to the top 10 of the whole year.
The new version of the film is directed by Jon Favreau, who gives new life to the 1994 animation classic and features, in its original version, the voices of Donald Glover as the future King Simba, Beyoncé KnowlesCarter as Nala, and
James Earl Jones as Mufasa. The second most watched film in Spanish cinemas has been ‘Spider-Man: Away from home’ (0.7 million euro), followed by ‘Toy Story 4’ (0.6 million), ‘Annabelle returns home’ (0.5 million) and ‘Yesterday’ (0.3 million).

SPAIN'S BEST BEERS
Beer. It's not only one of the most popular and consumed drinks in Spain, but it is also a way of life. No matter what time of the day, on the terrace of any typical Spanish bar, or at the counter, you're bound to spot more than one or two customers enjoying a ‘caña', possibly accompanied by a tasty tapa as well. Spanish beers are not as wellknown as some of Germany's finest, yet increasingly, they are receiving the recognition that they so rightly deserve, inside and outside of the country. Here is our choice of the best beers to come out of Spain. Which is your favourite?

The Catalán chef felt t there was a need, and a gap in the market, for a beer to accompany the varied flavours of modern Spanish cuisine and compliment them. LAS RAMBLAS GOLF SOCIETY Results for w/c 22.7.19
A ‘Texas Scramble' kicked off our week and with a nett score of 60.7 our winners were Bryan Neal, Petina Murray, Reg Akehurst and Paul Brown.
Given the wonderful conditions we played in and the great shape the course is in at the moment, I'm surprised there were not a few more high scores.
There was a good turnout (given the time of year) for Wednesday's Stableford competition.
Well done to Marleen Billen who won the day with 38 points. Richard Connock, playing off an 8 handicap, (honest guv'nor) came in runner up with 35.
Three ‘2's today, being carded by Mike Frankish, Nigel Price (on the very difficult 12th) and Geoff Biggerstaff.
Thanks here also go to John Dobson who gave a PowerPoint
presentation to a number of our members in the clubhouse afterwards on ‘how to get more distance off the shank'. Por ultimo, remember, in the words of an unknown author, ‘Golf is a lot of walking broken up by disappointment and bad arithmetic'. Pues, hasta la semana que viene Peter Reffell

the hope of surviving until the end (you won´t actually die (we hope)). Billed as an “Hyper realistic virtual immersion”, each experience lasts for between 40 minutes and an hour and up to 5 people can take part with total freedom of movement throughout.
The summer may have only just started for some, but if you´re already looking for a bit of escapism, Alicante may hold the answer.
Virtual Zone is a new attraction where visitors don virtual reality headsets, are armed with weapons, and move through unreal worlds of fantasy in
Perhaps you will become the hero who ends a zombie threat, saving humanity from a impending apocalypse, or move through a medieval village where an evil alchemist is playing tricks. There is also an underwater world and one which transports you to the depths of space, all
through virtual reality. Virtual Zone is located in the centre of the city, at Plaza de los Luceros, and if traditional puzzles are more your thing then you can opt for their real world Escape Room instead. Either way, it´s something fun and different all the family can get involved in.

MURRAY BROTHERS BACK TOGETHER IN WASHINGTON Andy Murray will team up with his brother Jamie to play doubles at the Citi Open in Washington next week.
The tournament will be Andy Murray's fourth since undergoing hip surgery in January and it will be
his first on a hard court. The brothers, who both played with different partners in the men's doubles at Wimbledon
BAYERN HOPEFUL OF SANE SIGNING Bayern Munich are "working very hard" to secure their "dream signing" Leroy Sane, according to manager Niko Kovac. Kovac has expressed a keen interest in the pacey German winger and has publicly said on many occasions that Sane could be the missing piece in the
jigsaw at Bayern. Sane has not expressed a desire to leave this summer and City
remain confident that he will agree a new contract despite failing to reach an agreement last season but Kovac has said the club will do whatever it takes to make the transfer happen and if that means paying more than they would have wanted then his chairman is willing to produce extra funds to secure their man.
The 23-yearold made 46 appearances in all competitions for City during the 2018/19 campaign, scoring 16 goals, but he started just 21 of their 38 Premier League games.
His form and work rate dramatically improved last season after Pep Guardiola gave him some encouraging words and motivation after receiving disappointing news the previous summer after being left out of Germany's world cup squad in 2018. Sane, who joined City from Schalke in 2016, has only two years remaining on his current contract at the Etihad Stadium. If Pep Guardiola gives the green light for Europe's elite to make offers for the German then Bayern may not be the only major club interested in the wingers' services.

SHANE LOWRY EYES RYDER CUP PLACE AFTER WINNING THE OPEN Newly-crowned Open champion Shane Lowry says his main goal is securing a place on next year's Ryder Cup team. The 32-year-old became the fifth Irishman to lift the Claret Jug after triumphing at Royal Portrush on Sunday. The win gives the champion 10 and five-year exemptions to the European and PGA
Tours respectively. However, Lowry insists his plan for the next 12 months is to seal his spot for the biggest event in golf, which will be held in Wisconsin in 2020. "Obviously, in the short term I'm going to enjoy this, there's no doubt about that," Lowry said after securing a six-shot victory over Tommy Fleetwood. "But in the long term, you obviously want to back-up your success." "My big goal remains the same and that is to be on the plane going to Whistling Straits next year. That's my plan for the
Sports by Dan Davy
next 12 months. Hopefully, that involves a couple of wins along the way." E u r o p e a n qualifying for the Ryder Cup does not begin until September and Lowry is determined to make his debut under captain Padraig Harrington, who greeted him on the 18th green on Sunday evening. Europe will travel to Whistling Straits looking to retain the trophy after their resounding 17.5-10.5 victory over the United States at Le Golf National in 2018. In other golf news, Darren Clarke says he is expecting a tough test as he prepares to make his Senior Open debut this week. T h e Dungannon native, 50, tees off at Royal Lytham
on Thursday morning, less than a week after missing the cut at The Open in Royal Portrush. Clarke almost clinched the Claret Jug at Lytham in 2001 before a late double bogey derailed his challenge. Clarke's Open redemption came at Royal St. George's a decade later when he kept his nerve down the stretch to secure a three-shot victory over American duo Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson. That triumph means he will bid to become only the fourth player - after Bob Charles, Gary Player and Tom Watson to win both the Open and the Senior Open. A triple-bogey seven at the 18th hole of his second round
meant Clarke failed to make the cut at Royal Portrush last week. However, his otherwise steady play, which included an evenpar 71 first round, has put him in confident mood ahead of his Lytham return. "I played not too badly last week. You never know, I want to practice hard over the next couple of days and hopefully I'll be ready come Thursday." Clarke begins his Senior Open challenge on this weekend alongside defending champion Miguel Angel Jimenez and three-time winner Tom Watson on the opening day.
