MAKE THIS YEAR AN ADVENTURE Imagine you were given an opportunity to travel the entire world, every continent, every country at no cost, but, there would be one condition; you would have to do it blindfolded. You can trek from Hawaii to the Swiss Alps, from the Amazon to Jerusalem, but it will all have to be done without you seeing any of it. It’s a frustrating idea. Here you are going from place to place but to you, it all seems the same. The truth is, this dilemma does not just exist in the realm of space, it also exists in the realm of time. The Kabalistic teachings of Chassidism teaches us that just as every place has its own unique energy and purpose, which is why traveling is always filled with newness and adventure; every point in time has its own exclusive character and rhythm. This week, this day, this very moment will never happen again; there will be many more moments to come, but none will be like this. One can go through life, day after day blindfolded, like listening to the same song on repeat. Or one can take off their blindfold, look at each day and recognize that the challenges and triumphs that are unfolding before them is unique, has its own flavor and will never happen this exact way again. This is what’s so significant about Rosh Hashanah and the celebration of the New Year. During this Holiday, the energy that will define the entire year ahead, the context in which everything will be achieved, enters into our world for the very first time. Furthermore, Chassidism teaches, not only is this a new energy, each year it is an even greater energy than the past year. The potential and destiny that is waiting to be unlocked during this coming year is something the world has never seen. All this happens with the blast

survivor of rape and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it.” This show contains adult content.

The Creative Arts Council with the City of Dania Beach presents this once a month showcase of various South Florida artists on Saturday, September 14. Poets and musicians will be in the Atrium of Dania Beach City Hall to promote the arts in Dania Beach.

HIGH RISE DEBATE CONTINUES SIB Commission gives initial approval for Moratorium on West-Side of Collins By Austin Torres

A proposal to build condominiums, hotels, restaurants and retail stores on the west side of Collins Avenue has residents of Sunny Isles worried up-zoning will cause major changes to the nature of their city. Residents who are keen on

maintaining the cities’ character have been vocally opposing the proposal at the latest commission meetings citing concerns over traffic congestion, over crowding at schools, and an eclipsing of the beach view. Most recently, a 12 month moratorium was preliminarily approved by a

4-1 vote at the August 28th commission meeting where several citizens took the podium and expressed their concerns over HIGH RISE, Page 7A

Only new, unopened donations listed will be accepted. Financial donations should be directed to one of the many reputable charities who are collecting as part of the relief effort. “As we pray for those

For the most part I don’t really go back to any specific style again. I love using primary colors, they are the most vibrant of all colors, they vibrate on a positive level. I have always felt that jewelry is meant to be worn to enhance the natural beauty of the person wearing it. Working with the crystals and butterfly wings has really brought an appreciation for Mother Nature’s natural beauty. Combining the two creates a beautiful symmetry. All the crystals have been carefully selected based on natural color (no color enhancements or dyes) and cut for added luster and vibrance. My hope is when you wear a piece of my jewelry that you are reminded that we are all created from this same beauty and to appreciate this beauty inside of each of us and all around us.”

Prosperity Continues To Flourish By Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Adams

As prosperity continues to flourish in our beautiful City of Hallandale Beach, I am proud to not only witness it but to be a part of the changes as well. Last week was a very memorable one as we took a moment to show our respect to the victims of the tragedy of the September 11th attack, and to also show appreciation to active and former first responders. This past Saturday, September 7, 2019, Gulfstream Park held a ‘Day of Remembrance’ for everyone to reflect on past events to remember the men and women that lost their lives on that very day in 2001. We also took this time to appreciate our former and active first responders that continued to protect and serve our community daily. Police Chief

Sonia Quinones, Deputy Chief Greg Pagliarulo and I had the pleasure to present the winning trophy to the winning jockey for The Race of Remembrance. To continue the remembrance of these brave men and women the City had a September 11th Memorial and Day of Service. The Memorial was held at our Fire Station 7 located at 111 Foster Road. Following the memorial service volunteers along with our Green Initiative Coordinator Alyssa Jones-Wood planted 5 native trees and 99 native plants/shrubs, which together will form the City’s first bioswale. A bioswale is a type of swale (like our grassed drainage swales) which uses plants (trees, shrubs) to filter pollutants from stormwater before recharging our groundwater resources. This

event is made possible by a TD Green Space Grant through the Arbor Day Foundation. The past week was dedicated to show appreciation among a list of people, on that list were grandparents. Many people honor their grandparents through a range of activities such as giftgiving, card-giving, and children invite their grandparents to school for a day where they participate in special lessons or special assembly programs. Thanks to Gulfstream Academy the grandparents of the children were able to feel appreciated with a nice breakfast at the local school. As a grandparent myself, this small token of appreciation was surely admired for the grandparents that attended. Amongst the crowd was Haitian Radio DJ Radio Louce from

Station 1080 AM, whom is also a grandparent. On Friday, I joined the seniors of the H2U program Zumba class to enjoy a quick dance routine with widely known Zumba instructor Rivka. I was happy to see the participants staying active with such a great program. The H2U program which stands for ‘Health 2 U’ is a program that is ran by Aventura Hospital that hold classes at our Cultural Community Center and BF James Pool. The H2U program offers five different exercise classes that include; Aqua Aerobics, Chair Yoga, Tai Chi, Line Dancing, Low Impact Aerobics, and Zumba. For more information on how you may join and partake in a one-time free class contact the H2U program coordinator at (305) 682-7391 or

HI RISE From Page 1A consequences that the architectural development would entail. On the West Side of Collins Avenue there are several condominiums, restaurants, and various retail store chains. While the East side is abundant with these buildings, they pale comparatively to the loftier hotels and condominiums which nearly eclipse the stunning view of the ocean. Pedestrians walking along Collins Avenue will notice this distinction between the East and West as they struggle to catch a look at the beach. The buildings which escalate to staggering heights make it difficult to enjoy the view of the ocean which is a signature part of living in Sunny Isles. As a result of this locals are keen on keeping development to a minimum, especially on the East side. However, the recently deferred “Infinity Project” which proposes to develop 15 story condominiums, hotels, restaurants and other retail stores in the city’s Town Center threatens to drastically change the west side. The plan, which was proposed by developer, Global Property” Investors Real Estate Group, has been a major topic of discussion in several of the cities town meetings over the last year as numerous residents have stepped forward to vent their frustrations and concerns over what would be a severe increase of densityHomes4sale and intensity in the cities’ Town Center. Infinity first became a major point of discussion and contention among commissioners and residents when it first appeared in December. The proposal brought to light a long forgotten inconsistency between the cities’ comprehensive plan, and the Town Centers’ zoning code. As a result of the zoning codes’ noncompliance with the comprehensive plan, Infinity was deferred pending further action. The cities’ comprehensive plan which was established in 2000 is a document which maps out what kind of development can take place and where. The zoning code for the Town Center district was first instituted in 2004, and began approving site plans in 2005. The inconsistency between the Comprehensive Plan and the Zoning Code first came to light in 2005 when it was revealed that the zoning code allowed for significantly higher intensity development in the Town Centers mixed-used business sector. The mixed used business center

encompasses areas designated for business and retail services, condominiums, and offices as well as restaurants. Although the inconsistency was first noted in 2005, an amendment to put the zoning code in compliance with the comprehensive plan was not proposed until 2007. The proposal however was denied by the state due to insufficient data and analysis. As a result of the Great Recession which reduced investment development there has been little talk of the issue since. However with the proposal of Infinity last December the inconsistency was once again a topic of discussion. As the project was not in compliance with the Comprehensive Plan, the city deferred it and instead placed focus on putting the plan and code in compliance with each other. On July 18th the commission scheduled a vote on an ordinance that would allow higher density development in the Town Center by making an amendment to the comprehensive plan which would put it in compliance with the zoning code, a move thats’ legality has been put into question. The July 18th town meeting drew a multitude of residents, so many in fact that they were lining up outside the city chambers to voice their concerns about how high density development in the Town Center would lead to higher traffic congestion, overcrowding in the schools, and a major change in the nature of their beloved city. Sunny Isles which was incorporated in 1997 and approved a comprehensive plan in 2000 has had a striking increase in population density over a short period of time. With a prime location only minutes from Bal Harbour to the North, and south of Golden Beach, it has become a major destination for residents and tourists alike. Now with over 22,000 residents it is the most highly populated city in South Florida. Although the city has drastically developed over the last few years and seen the advent of several new buildings, residents are not inclined on seeing further excessively unnecessary over development, especially on the west side of Collins. In response to the uproar Mayor George “Bud” Scholl announced the proposal of a 12-month moratorium which would postpone any new development in the area between Collins Avenue and the Intracoastal Waterway from 163rd Street north to 172nd Street until the inconsistency is resolved. However some citizens, including

Dan Katz, principal of RK Centers, a major Real Estate Development company which owns several stores in the Town Center, have claimed that the amendment to the comprehensive plan is a move that would actually facilitate up-zoning in the Town Center. To address these concerns the commission held a special meeting on August 28th. At the meeting several residents stepped up once again to voice their concerns over the moratorium and the infinity project. While the Moratorium was met with preliminary approval following a 4-1 vote, Commissioner Dana Goldman was strongly opposed. “It’s 100 percent upzoning” Goldman said. Goldman whose opposition to the comprehensive plan amendment has been unwavering suggested an alternative plan. Her proposed plan would instead amend the zoning code so that it would align with the comprehensive plan instead of the other way around, effectively preventing any up-zoning. This plan would actually comply with state law as the alternative plan sought out by the other commissioners would not. Goldman’s plan however was shot down. Six buildings in the Town center which were constructed according to the Town Center’s zoning code do not currently comply with the comprehensive plan and several residents feel as though the commission and city should redirect their efforts towards rectifying this issue.” Residents of these buildings are concerned that if insurance companies and lenders discover that their properties are not in compliance with state law they will refuse to work with them, which potentially could cause them financial turmoil. When pressed about the issue at the August 28th meeting, Mayor Scholl was firm on his stance. “My priority is to get the fix for the six buildings as soon as possible”, Scholl said. The final vote on the moratorium will take place on September 19th where a second reading of the proposal will take place. The future of the Infinity project as well as the inconsistency between the comprehensive plan and the Town Centers zoning code remain uncertain. Towards the end of the meeting Mayor Scholl was asked if the moratorium would have a potential side effect which would allow for the Infinity Project to go through. “No that’s the whole point”, he said. “The moratorium is the most “conservative course of action for any outcome we’re talking about.”

HEALTH Sport Aches And Pains Getting You Down?? Let The Power Of Shockwave Therapy Heal Your Entire Body!!! The Shockwave Therapy healing method uses modern technology to provide patients with safe and highquality physiotherapy treatment. This method of physiotherapy works by accelerating the healing process in the body through stimulating your metabolism and improving blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue. The shockwave machine applies strong energy pulses to affected areas, which occur for short periods of time creating microcavitation bubbles that expand and burst. The resulting force penetrates tissues where it stimulates the cells that are responsible for connective tissues and bone healing. The effectiveness of this method offers many benefits to help the body when it has not been able to heal itself. Extracorporeal shock-wave therapy (ESWT) has been widely used in clinical practice for managing various orthopedic conditions. The ESWT has shown to exert an overall positive effect on the treatment success rate, pain reduction, and range of motion restoration in patients with soft tissue disorders. Various research studies suggest that focused shock wave therapy can relieve pain and can serve as an ideal alternative treatment option. The efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) has been shown to be a great alternative to standard treatments and surgery. • By the targeted application of shockwaves, stress to the surrounding tissues is quite insignificant. The body is

not burdened by pharmaceuticals, except the short-term effect of local anesthesia, if used. • Other benefits include preventing surgical intervention and its relevant hazards. • Thanks to ambulatory treatment, work absences are reduced to a minimum. Additionally, routine absences for sports athletes is likewise reduced. • Soft tissue injuries and tendinopathies account for a large numbers of chronic musculoskeletal disorders. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is popular and effective in the management of chronic tendon conditions in the elbow, shoulder, and at and around the heels. For some indications, such as Tennis or Golf Elbow, there really is no other effective treatment. Shockwave Therapy Treatment Has Shown Great Benefits For Muscles And Tendons In These Areas 1. Elbows 2. Neck, Shoulders 3. Wrist 4. Back, Hips, Groin 5. Legs, Hamstring 6. Knees 7. Shin, Achilles Tendons 8. Feet, Heels Plus the energy pulses of the Shockwave Therapy healing method have also been able to provide patients with safe relief of general muscle aches and

pains, as well as provide general wellness massage and skin elasticity benefits. Main Benefits Of Shockwave Therapy Treatment Non-surgical Treatment, Easy to Apply - Clients don’t need to worry about undergoing painful surgical procedures to heal. As an easy and effective procedure, Shockwave Therapy is beneficial since the modern machines used are intuitive and easy to use, therefore clients can apply this treatment. Accelerated Healing - The key benefit of Shockwave Therapy is that it highly accelerates healing, allowing clients to go back to their normal lives within the shortest possible amount of time. Just by undergoing a few sessions of this type of therapy, one can start to feel the healing effects in minutes. Safe and Effective, with Minimal Side Effects - This method has been tested by highly-qualified professionals who confirm that it is safe and effective. Another key benefit that people who undergo Shockwave Therapy appreciate

is minimal side effects. This means that patients spend their full time on healing without the pains and down time of negative side effects. Affordable and Convenient - Other factors that make Shockwave Therapy so appealing is that clients can enjoy speedy and affordable healing by visiting our Hallandale clinic or in the comfort of their own home if they want to purchase our portable units. Modern Therapy also has available the latest peptide therapy programs: • For sexual health (ED) we have our exclusive Sexotropin PT141 peptide. • For injuries, pain, and regeneration we have Celltropin BPC157 peptide for optimal skin, bone, ligament and tendon repair. We also offer the latest Exosome Therapy for other treatments such as Hair Restoration, Skin Rejuvenation, and Sexual Enhancement.

Innovative PTSD Treatment State Becomes First to Cover Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for Veterans Retired Green Beret Brian Anderson was on his third deployment to Afghanistan when two of his close friends, Calvin and Mark, were sent on a mission in a nearby area. They never returned. “I was right there when they were killed and took out the machine gun nest that

was holding them next to the building,” Anderson told us. “We took off the sensitive items from off their bodies, put them in body bags, put them on a plane and sent them out. We went through the rest of that deployment and there was still a lot of fighting. We had more injuries and more casualties. They were all difficult. Then we came home.” After Anderson returned home, he could not put the tragic deaths behind him.

He had visions of his fallen friends. He felt extreme anxiety, fear and rage. Eventually, he was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). After suffering with his symptoms for years, Anderson tried Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) an evidence-based treatment that enables people with PTSD to essentially rewrite the endings to tragic memories. ART clinicians use a series of hand movements to lead their clients’ eyes while talking them through the process of changing their troubling memory. Late last month, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law that enables Florida veterans to receive coverage for ART and other alternative treatments. Florida is the first state to cover ART for veterans. The measure (HB 501) received unanimous approval from both the Florida house and senate. Most ART clients report a complete or nearly complete reduction of the symptoms of PTSD in just a few sessions. For Anderson, just one session

made a dramatic effect on his life. “Those upsetting memories were gone.” he said. “I could still think about the events of that day, but the trigger wasn’t there. It became an event that happened in the past, not something that took

over my life. Today he runs a Tampa non-profit, Veterans Alternative, that helps veterans receive ART and other alternative therapies for PTSD and trauma. ART has been proven effective in numerous scientific

studies, is classified as a preferred treatment by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMSHA) and is employed by the Department of Defense. Restauranteur Chris T. Sullivan established the

nonprofit ART International to expand the availability of this life-changing treatment. For more information about ART, you may also visit: ARTherapyInternational.org.
