Each season, orchestras the world over delight in performing one of classical music’s most well-known and uplifting masterworks. Jonathan Kandell of Smithsonian magazine writes, “A musical rite of the holiday season, the Baroque-era oratorio still awes listeners 250 years after the composer’s death.” In 1789, Mozart posthumously paid Handel the supreme compliment of reorchestrating Messiah but even Mozart confessed himself to be humble in the face of Handel’s genius describing his orchestrations: “When he chooses, he strikes like a thunderbolt.” In 1823, Beethoven proclaimed Handel to be the ‘greatest’ composer that ever lived.

Enjoy Thanksgiving And Keep Safety
As families look forward to their Thanksgiving feast, Fire Safety is not often their first concern. However, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home-cooking fires.
Safety in the kitchen is important, especially on Thanksgiving Day when there is a lot of activity, people at home and children involved in holiday preparations. The City of Hollywood Department of Fire Rescue and Beach Safety would like to pass along these safety tips from the NFPA to help families keep their loved ones safe as they enjoy the day.
• Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stovetop so you can keep an eye on the food.
• When cooking your Turkey, stay in the home and check on it frequently.
• Keep children at least three feet away from hot stoves.
• Use caution around hot foods and liquids. Steam or splashing from vegetables, gravy or coffee could cause serious burns.
• Keep floors clear of tripping hazards like toys, pocketbooks or bags.
• Keep knives and electric cords from kitchen appliances, matches and utility lighters out of the reach of children.
• Never leave lit candles unattended.
• Ensure your smoke alarms are working. Take a
moment to test them by pushing the test button.

The Season Of Gratitude And A New Vice Mayor
By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper
As Friendsgiving celebrations and the Thanksgiving holiday takes place this week, I am reminded of the things we are thankful for. I, for one, am thankful to serve as your mayor once more for the next four years. I am thankful for our families and friends that become family. I am thankful for our robust coastal community and our beautiful woven tapestry of diversity throughout our residents. I am thankful for our incredible city staff that never stops working to maintain our city. And I am grateful for our community partners, educators that nurture our future minds and the business community that is the lifeblood of our city.
Our Hepburn Center will host the Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon. This is a wonderful opportunity to gather with neighbors and enjoy a festive meal featuring all the traditional favorites. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve. Thank you to the City of Hallandale Beach Human Services Department staff and other city staff volunteers for making this possible.
Late Wednesday, Hallandale Beach held an organizational meeting for the new city commission. Even though there were clear winners in our election, all results must be certified by the Broward County Supervisor of Election and accepted by the state. This process typically takes 10 days. After being accepted by the State, the results are certified and we are sworn into office. While there were some crazy events over the past month and over the course of early voting the organizational meeting was a time of celebration for us all.
Commissioner Lazarow was sworn in by her dear friend. Michele was blessed to be joined by her mother Phyllis Lazarow and Stepfather. Anyone that has lived in Hallandale Beach for more than 10 years knows that Phyllis is a true pioneer of our city in her own right. She opened and ran a wonderful salon for over thirty plus years.
officially certified by law to serve in the capacity of Mayor and commissioners. We do not simply swear to protect and defend our city and charter but the United States Constitution and Florida Constitution. It is our duty to protect and defend all our residents.
Vice Mayor Anabelle Lima-Taub was sworn in by her amazing mother Eva Taub. Anabelle shared a wonderful message about her Imma. She too is an amazing woman. She escaped Antisemitism in Russia as a young woman and settled in Israel. She married and gave birth to Annabelle. She separated from her husband to escape violence and came to the US to start a new life. She raised Anabelle as a single mother working tirelessly, opening her own business. She made sure Anabelle received a great education and more importantly ingrained in her the importance of standing up against hatred and oppression.
I was sworn in by my dear husband Dr. Harry Cooper. He decided that he wanted to participate in this time, which is uniquely different as he typically prefers to be behind the scenes. It was special as my mom who has made all my swearing in had passed during the COVID-19 Pandemic. My Dad and my father by mar riage had also passed away and my mom by Marriage Syliva was watching from home.
The biggest thank you and cheers went out to Officer Marcia who was assigned the lion share of patrol hours for early voting. The assignment came with hours of nonsense, disrespect and lawlessness from my and Anabelle’s opponent. Her service along with other officers including us was over and above anyone would have expected.
Anabelle thanked the many supporters that worked early voting for all of us. We
the nomination. There were no other nominations and the vote for Vice Mayor Michelle Lazarow was unanimous. We all shared during our comments a common theme. We all serve every single resident of the city. It does not matter if you are an R or D. If you live in a house, condominium or trailer. It does not matter the amount of money you have, the religion you practice nor the color of your skin. It does not matter if you voted for us or against us, we have all sworn an oath to
I thanked my friends for attending and the many volunteers including Fraternal Order of Police President and President of the Broward County Professional FireFighters and Paramedics who all came out during early voting and on election day.
Another huge thanks to Ms. Judy Stern who is not only a friend but both me and Anabelle’s campaign manager. The countless hours she spent on messaging, mail consulting and keeping us focused was priceless. Ms. Eve Paul, my publicist and ground coordinator, is another blessing
meet and work with. The biggest thank you still goes out to Eva who I lovingly refer to as the General. Every day we set up and she would make sure everyone was in the right place at the right time. Sadly, our opponents were uncivil and created much unrest throughout the course of the election. The other amazing volunteer was Pablo, Anabelle’s husband. It was great to have him around covering our six. Not only is he a wonderful friend but an amazing police officer. She also shared a special thanks to Mayer, Lius, Anna, AJ, Howard, Kenyatta and all the many other volunteers.
Our residents should know that among all of us we have over 50 plus years of experience. There is no need for a learning curve. This means our City will have continuity, experience and most of all stability. Our City has come through some significant times over the past years. We were faced with fiscal insolvency for years of instability and now we can truly get right back to collaborating with an amazing team. More importantly we will retain great staff.

A Real-Life
“Lion King” Story
Broward Performing Arts Foundation Kicked off the 2024-2025 Season
and a special presentation of a real-life “Lion King” story by Zoo Miami’s “Goodwill Ambassador,” Ron Magill.
The Annual Reception is a private event for the Center’s benefactors, and, in her welcome, Foundation President Lisa Kitei thanked them for their support. “Your generosity enables us to present out standing theatrical experiences and award-winning educational programs for our South Florida community,” Kitei said.
Board Treasurer Ann Burris spoke of the joy that the Broward Center brings to the community. “It’s my hope that your involvement with the Broward Center brings you boundless joy and a ton of fun, all the while knowing that your support is shared with so many others in our com munity who benefit greatly through your generosity.” She closed her remarks saying, “Thank you for all you do that helps support the Center do all that it does. Enjoy the fantastic program today and be sure to have FUN!”
Broward Center President and CEO Ty Sutton provided an overview of the impressive upcoming season which includes the Foundation’s 2025 Annual Celebration that will bring the good vibra tions of Mike Love and The Beach Boys to the intimate setting of the Amaturo Theater on Saturday, March 1st. Sutton also highlighted the role the Foundation plays in raising funds for the Broward Center’s innovative and diverse program ming, arts-in-education initiatives and community engagement activities. “We are really excited about the upcoming season,” Sutton said. “Our impact on the community from both educational and entertainment perspectives is unparalleled.”
The Annual Reception featured a special entertaining and educational presentation from Zoo Miami’s “Goodwill Ambassador,” Ron Magill. In a season that includes Disney’s The Lion King in March and the Foundation’s “Hakuna Matata Family Celebration” on Sunday, March 23rd, both at the Broward Center, Magill tied one of his most poignant experiences at Zoo Miami back to the powerful lessons gleaned from the Broadway show. The Internationally Recognized Wildlife Expert, Award-Winning Photographer and gifted storyteller had guests captivated by his story of K’wasi, a lion cub born at Zoo Miami 11 years ago and orphaned at just three months old. Magill documented K’wasi’s life through a stunningly beautiful photo montage, capturing the resilience of a lion cub that, like Simba, overcame uni-
maginable odds. For nearly 40 years, the Broward Performing Arts Foundation has been instrumental in providing support for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The Foundation was established in 1985 to deliver the required private funding to build the Center and create an endowment to sustain its operations. Over the years, the Foundation has successfully raised funds to support the Broward Center’s innovative and diverse programming, arts-in-education initiatives, community engagement activities and capital projects. In 2021, the Foundation completed a $30 Million Capital Campaign to renovate and restore the iconic Parker Playhouse. Prior to this, it raised $60 Million to complete the Encore! Capital Campaign to renovate, renew and revitalize the Broward Center.

Do You Snore? Are You Always Tired?
Snoring Is No Laughing
Matter!
It may be more than just an annoying habit, it may be a sign of Sleep Apnea
What Exactly is Sleep Apnea?
When the muscles that control the upper airway relax, some people begin to snore. When the airway becomes completely blocked and the person temporarily stops breathing, this is an episode of “Obstructive Apnea.” Each Apnea event may last for a few seconds or up to a couple minutes or more. Events may happen frequently - even several hundred times a night.
Can This Condition Be Treated? How?
There are many effective treatments for snoring. A widely accepted treatment for Sleep Apnea is oral appliance therapy. An oral device custom fit by your dentist is designed to keep your airway open and help prevent Apneas.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine
Recommends an oral appliance as a first-line treatment option for patients with mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), and for those with severe OSA who either decline CPAP Therapy or are unable to successfully use CPAP Therapy.
This treatment does not involve medications or surgery and helps hundreds of thousands of people all over the world enjoy sleeping safely for a healthier life. Many experience the benefits quickly - often during the first night of use.
