Collaborating to build a sustainable society

Human activity is endangering the sustainability of ecosystems around the world. The Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) conducts long-term monitoring of the state of the environment and related trends. Using our wide-ranging expertise together with our partners we seek out the best solutions for building a sustainable society. We do this with the help of scientific trials, multidisciplinary scenarios, predictive modelling, and the latest knowhow from many fields. We address vital issues by focusing on the big picture.

We are all decision-makers

To resolve environmental problems everyone must contribute. We must apply knowhow from different fields together using new means to produce information and find solutions. By doing this we can find ways for humanity to live sustainably.

We work pro-actively and openly in international, national and regional networks, sharing our high levels of research skills and expertise.
