EXPLORE ZIGGURAT
Enabling imagination and open-ended play, Ziggurat’s modular play couch is a fun, multifunctional piece of furniture for kids.
Director, Jess Goodall, has always been interested in art and design. On a work trip to New York, she discovered a multifunctional play couch for children but could not find a Kiwi equivalent. Deciding that she wanted to put her energy into something creative and practical, and after a few years of contemplating the project, Goodall and her husband decided to link up with a friend who has experience in working with manufacturers in China and e-commerce.
Quality has always been a focal point of Ziggurat’s brand. Goodall believed in creating a tool that would harness creativity in fun and functional ways. The CertiPUR-US foam and choice of fabric are exclusive and different from what is available. The polyester fabric is thicker and more genuine in terms of a ‘couchlike” feel. Plus, waterproof liners come already attached to the foam.
The Ziggurat has enough pieces to create the ideal fort, a park lounger, or anything else that you can think of. Light enough to be moved efficiently, the Ziggurat is still sturdy enough to be made into the roof or wall of your creation. The base and mattress fold in half, and handles on the sides allow easy movement.
“We haven’t cut corners at all in the design process, and I am very proud of how this has
come through in our final product. We have paid a lot of attention to finer details, which we hope our customers will appreciate.”
Goodall and her team are very small, of just three. Her husband and other business partner operate their own businesses separately from Ziggurat, which essentially grants Goodall most of the administrative work for the brand. Though Goodall enjoys the creative freedom, this allows her to have, and she enjoys bringing her ideas to life from inception to the final product.
“A Ziggurat is the name for an ancient structure made of stone. They are similar to pyramids but have terraced levels. As soon as we heard this word, it stuck.”
Currently in the works is an outdoor cover set that involves a lot of testing of different colours and fabrics. While establishing the core range, a new shade of bright pink into the mix and other sampled colours are looking to be released early next year.
Future goals for Ziggurat include textile waste initiatives with Auckland council and broadening their reach across New Zealand. Goodall sees so many amazing Kiwi-owned and operated businesses that inspire her – brands that have worked to create a household name for these products. This is something Goodall would love to happen for Ziggurat.
Ziggurat adapts with your child over the
years, allowing endless functionality ideas. As a prime example of form following function, Ziggurat encourages creativity through a kid’s ‘ages and stages.’ At Ziggurat’s pop-up stand in Ponsonby Central from the third to the ninth of October, customers can swing by and try the fantastic product.

When not running a childrenswear brand, Elad Admon can be found spending time with his girls - going for walks, playing in parks or doing puzzles. They are, after all, his inspiration, "my beautiful wife and daughters," said the Co-Founder of Huxbaby, the Australian minimalist childrenswear brand.
Elad completed his schooling in Perth and moved to Melbourne in his 20s to work in the management consulting industry. He also completed an MBA and Master of Applied Finance at Monash University.
"It's funny because I don't really consider myself that into fashion. I've had a passion for business from an early age - I remember when I was 12 years old offering to wash my neighbour's cars for $5, importing random products from overseas, and selling on eBay whilst at Uni."
Elad and his wife Jennifer were looking for new baby gifts when they noticed the lack of clothing options available. Everything was the traditional pink for girls and blue for boys. This was what sparked the idea of creating a childrenswear brand that was both fashionable and mindfully made.
Huxbaby is now eight years old, starting in their family garage back in 2014 with zero fashion experience. Jennifer was a practising dietitian with a creative flair when things started taking off. The name Huxbaby is
a totally made-up one; short and easy to pronounce, so the couple ran with it. After picking a name, the puzzle pieces fell into place. The pair ran everything from design, production and wholesale to shipping, customer service and marketing.
They now have a team of ten passionate staff members. Elad is the Managing Director, looking after business operations and strategy. While Jennifer is the Creative Director, in charge of the overall design and brand direction.
Sustainability is at the core of the Huxbaby brand. Elad believes it is the way of the future for all companies. Making a long-lasting impact and doing right by the environment. Huxbaby constantly strives to refine processes and push itself to keep operations and products as eco-friendly as possible. The brand values customer obsession, teamwork, integrity, passion and community.
Elad noted that there are several exciting projects in the works for the company. He couldn't give too much away but encouraged customers to keep an eye on new product categories and collaborations. Elad's goal is to grow the brand internationally and continue in its sustainability journey. Opening a flagship store is something that may one day be explored too.

TIMELESS STYLE
Jubee & Co has just turned one. A business launched in Wanganui by sisters Hannah & Rachel, their first year has been all about trial and error and learning the ropes of owning a business during COVID times. The company remains just the two of them but continues to focus on hard-wearing and robust kids' wear.
Hannah and Rachel grew up in Whangaehu, a small farming community ten minutes south of Wanganui. They come from a family of six, often out riding ponies or helping dad out on the farm, ( although they weren't sure if they were a help or a hindrance). They both attended Whangaehu primary school and then finished their primary years at St Anne's in Wanganui. Their hobbies were spending time with their highly competitive family - game nights meant competing for the family trophy (Which the girls weren't kidding about).
Hannah and Rachel both had a keen interest in the fashion industry.
Hannah studied fashion and was a visual merchandiser at Zara, while Rachel was a manager at Glassons. The pair realised they could do something great together after Rachel had her children.
"After I had my daughter, I found that the style of children's clothing I was looking for was not readily available, especially in the NZ market. I loved the timeless styles that could be worn for years and still be on-trend, so we got to work on designing our first styles," said Rachel.
Rachel is the creative head of Jubee & Co, and Hannah focuses on the day-today operations. The name of their business comes from their younger sister Julia. Born with cerebral palsy, she was affectionately
called Jubee and has shaped the people they are today.
"She is incredibly special to us. We have been carers for Julia at different times of our lives, and she currently lives with me three days a week, so she is often helping behind the scenes," said Hannah.
Jubee & Co has merged classic country styles with high-quality fabrics while staying true to its roots with a signature cow head embroidery. Coming from a big family, hand-me-downs were the way of life, so the sisters wanted to create styles that could stand the test of time.
Customer relationships are also at the heart of Jubee & Co. The girls want communication and shipping to remain as fast as possible, and they have remained transparent at every stage of their business. They also worked incredibly hard to partner with factories that aligned with the brand and had small MOQs, which proved difficult during Covid.
There aren't any plans to open a physical store in the future, but Hannah and Rachel would love to gain a more significant online presence - maybe even become a household name for quality kid's clothing. Their boy's clothing range has been incredibly popular and is something they would like to expand. Hannah and Rachel left us with their biggest influence or inspiration:
"Our biggest inspiration is Julia. She's been through a huge amount in her 24 years and continues to be incredibly resilient and positive in facing all challenges."

EDWARDS & CO
Mark Edwards created Edwards & Co in 2014 with the support of his father, Warwick and husband, Christian. Back in 2014, there weren't a lot of choices when it came to strollers. The overpriced, over-designed strollers didn't suit everyday parenting, and other prams focused on "game-changing" features that you didn't need.
Mark had a mission that exists to this day of giving parents the smoothest ride possible.
This mission led Mark to create a brand that focused on features parents care about, easy to fold, light, easy to push and manoeuvre–with elegant visual appeal and manufactured with high-quality materials.
From selling a handful of strollers from a cowshed in Silverdale to New Zealand's leading baby mobility brand, Edwards & Co has become a true kiwi success story.

Ziwi Baby offers a range of quality clothes that are both beautiful and comfortable to wear using organic cotton and soft fabrics. The journey began in 2018, when mum of two Nivi Narayanan had a desire to make quality clothes for little ones.
The range of garments are made with respect for the people involved in the process and the earth which we all share. Each Ziwi Baby garment carries the Global Organic Textile Standard certification label.
Its organic cotton is grown by independent farmers and Fairtrade co-operatives in the villages surrounding their mill. Farmers employ traditional agricultural practices – rainwater instead of irrigation, compost instead of fertilisers, and botanicals instead of chemical pesticides. Organic farming improves the health and well-being of farmers and their communities. These farmers receive a fair price for their crop plus a premium. The premium that is paid
by Ziwi Baby for each garment goes towards community development projects such as building schools and clinics as well as smaller grants for books and school uniforms for children and the purchase of farm equipment. All of the cotton used by Ziwi Baby is certified by the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation (FLO) and Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
The beautiful range of clothes from Ziwi Baby are made from pure organic cotton without the use of any harmful chemicals.
“We believe in slow production, making clothes with care for people and the planet,” said owner Nivi Narayanan.
“We work with our factory partner in India to bring our collections to life. Our garments
are made by skilled staff who work in a fair, safe and respectful environment free from all forms of labour exploitation. Our production process, from the planting of cotton seeds to the packaging of garments, is Global Organic Textile Standard certified and each Ziwi Baby garment is fully traceable all the way back to the farm where the cotton was grown. Not only does organic clothing benefit your little one, but farmers and their communities benefit from cleaner air, soil and waterways and workers benefit from fair working conditions.”
Nivi hopes that her range of clothes become well-loved and well-worn for your little one to live in, play in and grow up in, and handed down to be loved again and again.
DEVELOPMENT THROUGH PLAY
Ask any early childhood educator and they will tell you about the wonderful benefits of play on a child’s development. In fact, play is so important to a child’s development that it is actually recognized as a human right by the United Nations.
With so many toys out there for children, it can often become overwhelming for parents to decide what is worth investing in – and let’s be honest, no parent wants to buy toys only to watch them sit on the shelf or in a basket day in, day out. Enter, openended toys.
Open-ended toys don’t just serve just one need or one-way to play, but can be used in so many ways and across such a vast range age brackets and abilities, that the play continually evolves and as children grow and develop, so too does the toy.
Connetix Tiles are a high-quality, openended toy designed to foster creativity and spark imaginations. These uniquely bevelled magnetic tiles promote STEAM learning, encourage social-emotional development, motor skills, plus so much more.
Founded by family friends, Brea and Dave, Connetix Tiles is an Australian company established in 2019 by two families who value the power of high-quality openended toys.
Brea is an accomplished master’s qualified educator and mother of three who is
passionate about learning through play. Dave is a highly experienced entrepreneur with a background working in mechanical design and manufacturing and shipping.
Together, Brea and Dave have combined their passion and skills to launch Connetix Tiles, a signature brand of magnetic tiles that are strong and safe, while offering clearer refractions. Made using non-toxic, ABS plastic that is BPA and Phthalate free, Connetix also include ultrasonic welding and rivets for extra safety to make magnetic tile play safer for little hands.
Below are some ways that Connetix open-ended tiles that will benefit children’s development, through PLAY!
Creativity & Imagination
Nurture creativity and imagination with Connetix. As a high-quality, open-ended toy, Connetix can be used in a different way each time children play! Not only is creativity important for many jobs of the future, but creative play also allow children to express themselves and work through different feelings and emotions. Watch as they build complex 2D and 3D designs
inspired by their imagination, from houses and castles, to rockets and ball runs, the possibilities are endless!
STEAM Learning
Simply by playing with Connetix Tiles, children explore a wide range of STEAM disciplines and skills, often in an integrated way that encourages a deeper understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) and the connection between them.
Watch as children navigate notions of magnetism, shape, colour, counting, patterns & symmetry, weight, stability and balance, plus so much more.
Problem solving & Perseverance
Learning to solve problems is a tricky skill for a child and one that takes time and practice to develop. While playing with Connetix, children can explore the most effective way to navigate building structures either alone or with friends and family. While learning to problem-solve, children will naturally encounter setbacks,
and the crucial skill of perseverance begins to develop. What better way to work on perseverance than to continue building, creating, working together…and not only that, to have a tower that you have been building fall down! “Ok, now let’s try again!”
Planning and engineering
For children, deciding what to build and how to do it often involves an element of planning and engineering, particularly for tricky structures like bridges or ball runs. These skills are particularly prevalent when they are working with others and combining ideas.
Gross & Fine Motor Skills
Playing with Connetix can help children build fine and gross motor skills along with hand-eye coordination as they pick up, grasp and manipulate objects to build what they desire.
Language skills
Play is a wonderful way for children to develop and practice their language skills. Through play children can not only explore their own speech but also listen to that of their peers and carers, taking in speech sounds, new vocabulary and appropriate ways to communicate.
Concentration and Self-esteem
Developing the ability to focus and concentrate on a task does not come easily for all children. Building with Connetix is a fun way to practice and strengthen this skill. Concentration allows children to focus on the task before them. In completing the task, children feel a sense of pride and accomplishment which in turn improves their self-esteem.
Connetix Tiles are a wonderful openended toy designed to help support children’s learning and development in a fun, engaging way!
