After watching a television advertisementperformed by HomeTitleLock.com - that attempts to frighten the bejeebies out of the viewer, I decided to dig deeper into the issue.
The ad warns the viewer if you are a home or business owner you better contact HomeTitleLock. com pronto. If you don’t, proposes the ad, you may wake up one morning to the sound of the sheriff knocking on your door ordering you out of your residence/business because someone has swindled you out of it. The promotion suggests that a criminal may forge your name to a title document and then legally own or sell it. That sounded way too easy. I never heard of it happening to anyone, but then you never know. The nuances of crime have changed dramatically through the years; thus, one must always be alert to the next popular crime.
My first call was to a Pinal County Recorder Office. After posing the obvious questions the county employee stated it can happen, but the notary would have to be off game to approve a document if they didn’t know the person signing. How could anyone be duped by a fake photo and license, or whatever document the person uses, the county employee continued. I’ve been in law enforcement for a long time to know that people can be duped, even notaries. And of course, sometimes criminals partner up to commit devious crimes. Then a comment by the county employee put my mind at ease. Did you know that the county has a specific plan in play that helps prevent this type of thing? Me no, I did not know that, and I assumed neither did many other citizens in Pinal County. The employee concluded by stating I should look up the County Recorder website and I will find information on the site on how to register my property. Consequently, next stop the Pinal County Recorder webpage.
I found that the video on the topic was outdated when I attempted to follow the instructions. I then called the Recorder Office and spoke to a wonderful person who led me through the process while conjunctively agreeing that the video needed to be corrected and that it would be rectified. What I found was that if you go to the Pinal County Recorder website and find the bell shaped icon in the middle of the page, and click on it, within a few seconds you can complete the required forms. Then to ensure you are who you say you are, an email is immeditely sent from the Recorder Office to your listed email asking you to respond to that email to confirm, and when you complete this last step – presto; you are officially registered. This will not stop the attempted crime, but you would be notified of this activity and thus you would be alerted for your appropriate action. To my chagrin, I found that according to an FBI study in 2017, about 9,500 people in America have this crime happen to them each year. But since the number is so minuscule compared to the number of houses and businesses that are owned in America, that 9,500 stat is not considered a serious crime. But it would be very serious of course if it happened to you.
Ergo, if you have never had your property registered with the County Recorder Office to help protect you from this crime I would highly recommend that you do. I did, and honestly, I feel much better, and must thank the HomeTitleLock. com ad for bringing this matter to my attention. I realize that some other insurances citizens may have like Lifelock would also – they allege - alert you. You can never have too much insurance I suppose, but then, perhaps you can. The final decision rests with you.
Sleep well, and have a great Memorial Day.

Gold Canyon Garden Club Butterfly Garden Transitions to Summer
The Gold Canyon Garden Club’s Butterfly Garden is transitioning from a cool spring to summer heat.
It’s a great place to walk in the cooler hours of the day and see the seasonal changes. The entrance to the garden is at the West end of the Dinosaur Park parking lot on Alameda. You may find a plant that you would like to grow in your landscape.
Two plants that are thriving are Parry Penstemons, Penstemon Parryi, and the Mexican Bird of Paradise, Caesalpinia Mexicana.
The Penstemons is the beautiful wildflower that has many tubular shaped flowers on stalks that can reach 2 to 4+ feet tall. It is a perennial that lives for 2-5 years but new plants grow from see that will keep you in penstemons as long as you wish. Just weed out any excess new growth. Penstemons like full sun and well drained soil. Hummingbirds, bumble
bees, carpenter bees and Hawkmoths like penstemons.
The Mexican Bird of Paradise shrub/ tree has flamboyant clusters of bright yellow flowers from Summer to fall. It attracts hummingbirds, thrives in heat and full sun and well drained soil. It will need irrigation but survives the summers of the South West. The Mexican Bird of Paradise can grow to be 10-12 feet tall and wide. The pods and seeds are reported to be toxic to dogs and cats.
Gold Canyon Garden Club maintains the Butterfly Garden with help from Superstition Master Gardeners and other members of the community interested.
Our organization will be starting a new meeting year September and meet monthly every Tuesday at 10:00 AM through May of 2024. Please reach out to us at gcgcspcdock.com or through Facebook at Gold Canyon Garden Club.

Staff Picks Of The Month
A Beautiful Time by Willie Nelson, recommended by Vicki
Willie Nelson’s logged more than a few miles and memories since his outlaw days, reflected in his 72nd solo studio album and winner of this year’s GRAMMY for Best Country Album “A Beautiful Time.”
Penned by esteemed songwriters including Chris Stapleton, Rodney Crowell, Nelson and longtime collaborator Buddy Cannon, the album’s lyrics shift between pensive, melancholy, celebratory and, since it is Nelson, irreverent—all delivered in that classic Willie Nelson style.
Timeless, Nelson turned 89 this year. One of the more powerful selections is his wistful cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Tower of Song,” and his rendition of “Dusty Bottles,” written by Jim Brown, Scotty Emerick and Don Sampson, encapsulates a life well-spent.
“There's something to be said for gettin' older
Dusty bottles pour a finer glass of wine
An old beat-up guitar just sounds better
And wisdom only comes with time
I can spot mistakes before they happen
Separate the BS from the truth
I'm learnin' when I need to keep my mouth shut
Like I couldn't in my wild and wasted youth” Happy birthday, Willie.
All Creatures Great and Small by PBS Masterpiece, recommended by Tracie
“All Creatures Great and Small” is a delightful TV series based on the book series written by James Herriot (Alf Wight) a veterinary surgeon, of his first posting in Yorkshire at Skeldale House. The series is memorable for the filming of the picturesque Yorkshire Dales and veterinary practices and the glamorous 1930s automobiles, fashions and lifestyle.
Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult & Jennifer Finney Boylan, recommended by Megan C.
Mad Honey is a variety of honey that tastes sweet but is toxic, due to poisonous pollination from the rhododendron plant.
FROM APACHE JUNCTION PUBLIC LIBRARY
This tension of damaging desire runs through the text of Picoult and Boylan’s new novel. Olivia is a single mom looking for a fresh start, but as her family’s beekeeping business begins to blossom, her son Asher withers. Seventeen-year-old Lily is also looking for a new beginning, but when she is found dead in Asher’s arms, her murder trial uncovers short tempers and shocking secrets. With themes of bullying, domestic violence, and the riskiness of authenticity, “Mad Honey” is a complex thriller that elicits conversation.
The Banshees of Inisherin by Searchlight Pictures, recommended by Debbie
If you are looking for something a wee bit different, watch “The Banshees of Inisherin.” Set in a small Irish village, it tackles lifelong friendship and the loss thereof. The brogue may be a tad hard to understand but using subtitles will do the trick. But be warned. At times, your brain might need to take a minute to grasp what your eyes just witnessed. I don’t want to say too much because you will lose the impact of the movie, but the scenery is beautiful, the animals are cute and the acting is on point. Give it a try!
Spare by Prince Harry, recommended by Dennis
“Spare” is a review of the life forming events experienced by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. The primary villain in his life story is the British press. As I read the memoir, I was astonished at how the reviewers sensationalized several small events and ignored other major ones. Providing insight in the political apparatus of the British royal family, the book is a real eye opener.
The Passenger by Cormac McCarthy, recommended by Trish
Bobby has bounced between jobs since leaving home, and currently works as an underwater welder. When assigned to a dive investigating an underwater plane crash, Bobby discovers nine bodies and, more interestingly, a missing passenger and black box. With its endless twists and turns,
this novel explores grief, loss and survival peppered with espionage in true McCarthy style.
“The Passenger” is a thrilling companion novel of McCarthy’s other recent work “Stella Maris.”
Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover, recommended by Amy G.
Grab a box of tissues for this one! After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. The only person willing to give her a chance is Ledger, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna's daughter. It is a heartfelt, emotional and romantic story that will stay on your mind for a long time after you finish it, and one of my favorite books from 2022.
Norman Rockwell: Drawings, 19111976 by Stephanie Haboush Plunkett, recommended by Megan S.
Norman Rockwell’s drawings, paintings and illustrations are familiar to many Americans, whether they grew up seeing them in magazines or recognize them from frames and calendars in relatives’ homes. His work is such a constant that it’s easy to forget the time and dedication that each project required. This book brings insight and clarity into how Rockwell worked, where he found inspiration, and how his work evolved over the decades. It’s fascinating to see Rockwell’s work side-by-side with the masters who influenced him, as well as to learn quite a bit about Rockwell’s life.
Violeta by Isabel Allende, recommended by Meg
Violeta takes place between 1920 and 2020. Born during the Spanish Flu, Violetta recalls a century filled with war, politics, global tragedy, and more. In 2020 during the Corona Virus outbreak, Violeta takes the time to look back at her life, her journey with family and friends, and the beauty of connection and compassion.

PET OF THE MONTH
By Jenny Flood
Otis came to the shelter as a stray, so we didn’t know how or when this sweet boy was injured. We can only guess he was hit by a car and left without any care. It is heartbreaking to think of the amount of pain this dog must have been in and yet, he is just the happiest boy!
When he arrived at the shelter, staff quickly realized something was wrong with his leg. We took him to the vet and got a big surprise from his X-Rays! Not only was his left leg shattered, but his right leg had a dislocated hip.
Otis had a consult at Southwest Surgery Center and the surgeon was amazed that Otis acts like nothing is wrong. Because his body has been healing itself for so long, a repair to the leg could cause more harm than good at this point. The muscles have healed around his injuries; surgery could render the leg useless. The recommendation is not to do any surgery.
Otis will need to be kept at a lean weight and should do physical therapy to keep his legs working. Luckily, he walks very well on a leash! He is otherwise a healthy, happy boy and we are looking for his perfect home to give him the second chance that he deserves!
You can see him, and his other adoptable friends, Tuesday - Saturday, 9am to 3pm at Apache Junction Animal Control; located at 725 E Baseline Ave, Apache Junction, 480-983-4405.

By now climate change is pretty much accepted by most of us since it changes before our eyes at an alarming rate. Tornado Alley is moving south, hurricanes are getting bigger and more frequent, normal high and low temperatures are now normal for somewhere else. Plants are on the move as bio climes shift and pollinators are having a hard time keeping up. Invasive species of all kinds are overwhelming native species on a global scale. Even fungi pests, like candida, have followed the warming temperatures into new areas, threatening human health in novel ways.
What are we supposed to do? First, running around in circles like our hair is on fire will not help, and ignoring the reality of what are experiencing is dangerous. Stay calm, this is not life’s first rodeo with extinction events. Jeff Goldblum had it right when his character in ‘Jurassic Park’ uttered the line, “Life will find a way”. Life has before and undoubtably will again, with or without us.
There are already winners and losers in the new normal. Some areas that were too hot or dry are cooling and getting wetter and vice-a-versa. The trick is to be one of the winners.
Humans are amazingly adaptable, and I have faith that we will ‘find a way’. It is going to be costly both in time and treasure. First and foremost, we need to pull together to face this threat. Do something now, don’t wait. Get educated. In last month’s Superstition Living we were introduced to a group who is doing something. Natural Restorations, whose use of veterans to salvage native cacti to re-veg burn scars, is genius; They have been working behinds the scenes to make a difference right here in our back yard. Opening your wallet to N.R. and others who are doing the heavy lifting would be a good start.
What does all of this have to do with gardening? Everything. The plants that we used to install in our landscape may no longer survive and replacements will have to be found or bred. New technologies to save water, collect rainwater and fight diseases without polluting our environment will have to become the norm and constantly improved on.
And oh yes, somebody get a bucket of water for those folks with their hair on fire, they need our help.

CAN I HAVE STRONG BONES? NATURALLY!
We all know that as we age our bodies go through changes. While we can’t stop the march of time, we can certainly take steps to keep our bodies healthy and fit so they can continue to serve us well. One important consideration is making sure that we have strong and healthy bones.
LIFESTYLE HABITS FOR HEALTHY BONES
1. Eat a healthy diet. A low acid diet is a great start toward building strong bones. Try to eat at least three servings of fresh fruits and vegetables for every serving of animal protein such as red meat, chicken, or fish. Seeds, nuts, and legumes are a good source of extra protein. Limiting processed foods is always a good idea, and you can add collagen to your diet by using supplements or drinking bone broth to maintain an alkaline pH level in the blood to help prevent osteoporosis.
2. Exercise regularly. Start slowly and check with your doctor if you have not been doing regular exercise. Two 40-minute sessions of weight training per week are a great way to increase bone density. Higher impact activities like walking, stair climbing, and biking are good for both cardiovascular health as well as strengthening bones. Balance and stretching exercises are also great as part of a well-rounded exercise program.
3. Balance your hormones. Lower progesterone levels in women and testosterone levels in men can contribute to loss of bone mass. High cortisol levels brought on by physical or emotional stress can also increase your risk of osteoporosis. Proper hormone testing and a simple doctor-supervised hormone regimen can bring them back into balance.
Osteoporosis is a common medical condition in which the bones become weak and brittle. Normally, the body is constantly absorbing and replacing bone tissue, but with osteoporosis new bone creation doesn’t keep up with the old bone removal.
Some of the risk factors for this condition are a family history of the disease, having a small bone structure, deficiencies of certain vitamins and minerals, hormonal imbalances, and a history of smoking or excessive use of alcohol.
Once you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, or if you have had a bone fracture, your doctor may prescribe certain drugs to treat low bone density. However, we also know that prevention of potential disease is always better than trying to manage an existing one, so what can we do to head off this condition?
4. Take targeted supplements. Most people today are deficient in one or more vitamins and minerals that are important to their health. Calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, and vitamin C are all essential for building strong bones and a healthy body. There are laboratory tests that your doctor may be able to recommend to identify specific vitamins or minerals you might be lacking. There are also a variety of botanicals that are effective in promoting bone health.
Let’s face it—it takes effort to develop some of the habits listed above. However, the payoff of building strong bones without having to rely on a lifetime of pharmaceutical options is a big one. And you’re worth it!

The clear blue sky frames the Yucca’s white bouquet. What a sight to behold on this amazing Spring day!

LIFE IS MOVEMENT — MOVEMENT IS LIFE
Did you know that regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health? Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities. From your brain to your joints, movement every day has the power to improve every part of your body. It is simple – you can choose to implement small movements into your routine or try a new activity like yoga, pilates or a fitness class, to increase your mobility and elevate your overall health.
When you think about the value of exercise, one tends to focus on the many immediate and long-term physical benefits of including movement into your life. It is
important to protect your bones, joints, and muscles as they support your body and help you move. Keeping bones, joints, and muscles healthy can help ensure that you are able to continue your daily activities and be physically active.
BONES: Movement helps build more durable, denser bones. Bone-building activities like resistance training (weights), weight-bearing exercises (jogging, walking, hiking), and balance training (yoga) can support better bone density.
JOINTS: Retaining or increasing joint flexibility and joint function can be achieved by practicing specific mobility exercises that improve your ability to actively control and access your full range of motion. The movements found in
Therapeutic Yoga classes are low-impact and can strengthen the muscles around the joints will boost flexibility and increase range of motion.
MUSCLES: Muscle-strengthening activities are varied: Exercises with little or no equipment using body weight such as pushups, planks, lunges and squats can be found in yoga classes. Classes that include resistance tubing or free weights like Pilates or Yoga Sculpt can help to increase or maintain muscle mass and strength.
There are also benefits to our internal organs such as developing a healthy heart and lungs. Physical movement builds cardiovascular health, increases lung capacity, and improves respiratory function and heart rate.
HEART: Heart disease and stroke are two leading causes of death in the United States. Including moderate physical activity everyday can put you at a lower risk for these diseases. Emotional stress can cause a cascade of physical effects, including the release of hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which narrow
16 | Superstition Living
your arteries and increase blood pressure. The deep breathing and mental focus of yoga can offset this stress. Beyond off-loading stress, practicing yoga may help lower blood pressure, blood cholesterol and blood glucose levels, as well as heart rate, making it a useful lifestyle intervention.
LUNGS: Keeping your rate up improves your cardiorespiratory endurance. A low impact cardio breath related class like Joyful Fitness concentrates on breathing techniques. Taking regular, deep breaths allows more oxygen to enter your bloodstream, keeps your lungs healthy and increases your lung capacity, which tends to decrease with age and sedentary lifestyles.
STRENGTH AND BALANCE
Doing a variety of physical activities improves physical function and decreases the risk of falls or injury from a fall. Including physical activities such as aerobics, muscle strengthening, and balance training increases strength and improves your balance. Multicomponent physical activity can be done at home or at Live it Well as part of a structured program.
There are many physical benefits to exercise. Social scientists have amassed compelling evidence suggesting that there is another, more immediate benefit of regular exercise: it’s the impact on the way we think. Regular physical activity can help keep your thinking, learning, and judgment skills sharp. It can also reduce your risk of depression and anxiety and help you sleep better.
The community atmosphere at Live it Well promotes health, fitness, and fun. Attending classes, events and activities allows you to become part of a group. Creating relationships with others that incorporate fitness and health into their lives is easy to do. Encouraging socialization and community makes exercise more fun, which improves the chances that you’ll keep doing it. Days, evenings, and weekends at Live it Well are devoted to providing professional, helpful, and fun opportunities to include movement in your busy schedules.
Physical fitness is not the sole basis of being healthy; being healthy means being mentally and emotionally fit and should be part of your overall lifestyle. Living a healthy lifestyle not only prevents chronic diseases and long-term illnesses but leaves you feeling good about yourself.
Regardless of how you go about incorporating physical movement into your routine, reframing it as part of your life will give you a healthy and happy life.
Movement - it's so simple, yet so vital for life.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE IN A SELLERS’ MARKET: A BRIEF OVERVIEW
In the realm of real estate, market conditions can differ significantly due to a variety of factors. One such state is known as a sellers’ market, which typically benefits those wanting to sell their property. Let’s dive into what makes a sellers’ market advantageous for homeowners looking to offload their house and why it’s an attractive option for buyers too.
A LACK OF INVENTORY
The lack of available homes creates supply-side pressure in a sellers’ market; there are fewer houses on offer than there are prospective purchasers searching for them. This scarcity could be attributed to many reasons including economic prosperity, increased employment opportunities, and favorable mortgage rates – all encouraging people not to part with their homes under current circumstances. Therefore, buyers must compete over limited options, driving up home prices, resulting in great returns for vendors who may receive multiple offers from interested parties pushing sale costs beyond listed amounts.
GREATER DEMAND FOR HOMES
When demand exceeds supply you know you’re likely dealing with a seller’s paradise – but even though they hold the power when house hunting season comes around each year – smart shoppers can also take advantage if they play by the rules: move fast when you see something that fits your criteria because someone else probably has too! On top of this, make sure you have pre-approval from lenders so vendors will consider your offer seriously among others vying fiercely against one another.
LOW RATES OF NEW CONSTRUCTION
In a seller’s market, construction companies often do not build homes as quickly. Maybe there is a labor shortage, or perhaps they don’t have the supplies they need to turn around homes quickly. Limited new construction could be driving demand, which could mean lower opportunities for buyers, increasing the demand for the homes that are still available.
UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO BE IN A SELLER’S MARKET
No matter where either side stands within a seller’s market, understanding these nuances will ensure success when navigating through any sale or purchase transaction related matters. Additionally, having access to knowledgeable professionals such as experienced agents or attorneys throughout each step could prove advantageous as they have expertise in many areas, including but not limited to, contract writing, contract review, & negotiation techniques that may come into play during various stages along your journey towards closing day! Lemon & Raspberry
PUFF PASTRIES
This is a quick and easy way to make a pretty pastry for your family, luncheon or party!
INGREDIENTS:
• 1 Box of Puff Pastry (found in the freezer section)
• *1 can each of Lemon and Raspberry Pie Filling
• 1 egg – beaten
• Powdered Sugar
• Fresh Raspberries
• Chocolate chips
Thaw the Puff Pastry according to the directions on the box. There will be two sheets of puff pastry in the package. One sheet will make 9 pastries. Roll one sheet out into a larger square on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 9 equal squares. On each square make a cut about one-third of the way up from the center of each side. Use a cookie scoop or spoon and put a dollop of the lemon pie filling in the center, not touching the cuts. Fold in corners to the center. Do not overlap. Brush on the egg wash on each pastry top. Place the pastries on a parchment lined baking tray and bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 25 minutes. After they cool, sift a little powdered sugar over the tops. Place 1 or 2 fresh raspberries in the center. Use the other Puff Pastry sheet and do the same using the Raspberry filling. After they have cooled, melt a small amount of chocolate chips and put in a cake decorating bag or use a plastic baggie and cut a tiny hole at the end and squeeze the chocolate out going back and forth over the raspberry filled pastries if desired.
*You can use any other flavor of pie filling like Cherry, Peach, Blueberry or Apple or you can use jams for the filling.
CHICKEN AND GREEN BEAN STIR FRY
This crispy sweet chili chicken and green beans stir fry is easy and delicious!!
INGREDIENTS:
• 1 ½ lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into cubes
• 3 Tbsp cornstarch
• ¼ c vegetable oil plus 1 Tablespoon
• 1 large red bell pepper cut into squares
• 1 ½ c steamed green beans
• ½ Tbsp garlic minced
SEASONINGS:
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 1 tsp crushed red pepper
• 1/8 tsp sesame oil
• 1 ¼ c sweet chili sauce
DIRECTIONS:
In a large bowl add the cubed chicken and a tablespoon of oil. Add the garlic powder and a ½ tsp salt and pepper and rub it into the chicken. Add the cornstarch. Mix until all pieces of chicken are coated in the cornstarch. In a large skillet or wok over medium high heat, add 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Working in small batches, add the chicken. Do not overcrowd the pan. Turn the chicken often so the chicken can cook evenly. If the pan seems dry, add more oil as needed. Once the chicken is done, put it in a bowl and cook the second batch until crispy or until your desired texture.
Add the red bell peppers and onions and saute until soft or until you get your desired tenderness. Next, add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant. Add the chicken, green beans, sweet chili sauce, sesame oil and crushed red peppers to the skillet. Stir until combined. Serve immediately over rice.

CAN YOU BENEFIT FROM A 529 PLAN?
Another school year is coming to a close. And if you have young children, they’re now a year closer to heading off to college or some other type of post-secondary education or training. So, if you haven’t already done so, you may want to start preparing for these costs.
And they can be considerable. During the 2022-23 school year, the average estimated annual cost (tuition, fees, room and board, books, supplies, transportation and other personal expenses) was nearly $28,000 for public four-year in-state schools and more than $57,000 for private nonprofit four-year schools, according to the College Board.
Of course, some students don’t pay the full bill for college. Any grants and scholarships they receive can bring down the “sticker price.” Still, there’s often a sizable amount that students and their families must come up with. To help fill this gap, you may want to explore various strategies, one of which is a 529 education savings plan.
A 529 plan offers several key benefits. First of all, your earnings can grow tax deferred and your withdrawals are federally tax free when used for qualified education expenses, such as tuition, fees, books and so on. You may be eligible to invest in a 529 plan in most states, but depending on where you live, you may be able to deduct your contributions from your state income tax or possibly receive a state tax credit for investing in your home state’s 529 plan. Tax issues for 529 plans can be complex. Please consult your tax advisory about your situation.
And 529 plans aren’t just for college. You may be able to use one to pay K-12 expenses, up to $10,000 per student per year. (However, not all states comply with this 529 expansion for K-12, so you might not be able to claim deductions and your
withdrawals could be subject to state tax penalties.)
A 529 plan can also be used to pay for most expenses connected to apprenticeship programs registered with the U.S. Department of Labor. These programs are often available at community colleges and combine classroom education with on-thejob training.
Furthermore, you can now withdraw funds from a 529 plan to repay qualified federal private and student loans, up to $10,000 for each 529 plan beneficiary and another $10,000 for each of the beneficiary’s siblings.
But what if you’ve named a child as a 529 plan beneficiary and that child doesn’t want to pursue any type of advanced education? If this happens, you, as the account owner, are free to name another family member as beneficiary.
And beginning in 2024, you may have even more flexibility if a child foregoes college or other post-secondary education. Due to the passing of the Secure Act 2.0 in December 2022, unused 529 plan funds of up to $35,000 may be eligible to roll over to a Roth IRA of the designated beneficiary.
One of the qualifications for this rollover is to have had your 529 plan for at least 15 years. To determine if you qualify for this rollover, you will want to consult your tax advisor.
A 529 plan has a lot to offer — and it might be something to consider for your family’s future.
Withdrawals used for expenses other than qualified education expenses may be subject to federal and state taxes, plus a 10% penalty. Make sure to discuss the potential financial aid impacts with a financial aid professional.

Our Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Event
From March 25th, 2023 at the Mountain View Cemetery in Mesa, AZ.
Please enjoy these two videos. We hired a professional videographer (Gene Ganssle) who we use for the AZ Veterans Hall of Fame banquets and the PAL awards. Gene did not disappoint me! What a great person to work with!
Part 1: Has Channel 10 newsfeeds and after that will have part of the ceremony.
https://vimeo.com/814053470/ f3b4966fa0
Part 2: https://vimeo.com/815401798/ debd71d445
Some of you were able to attend, and thank you for coming out, when you watch the video, you might even see yourself!
By Nancy Fassbender
We started out on March 24th with an escort by the Phoenix Metro Traffic. They escorted the Arizona Vietnam War Memorial and the Wreaths Across America Educational trailer from Happy Valley to Mountain View Cemetery. What an experience that was! I even got to run the siren in the lead police car! We even went thru Apache Junction with the Apache Junction police escorting us thru their city. What a turnout we had!
Upon arriving at Mountain View, we were greeted by people waving the American Flags.
On March 25th, we could not ask for better weather. We had approximately 1800 people who came out to join thanking the Vietnam Veterans as well as the Veterans themselves were talking to each other about their experiences.
The 70 educational and informational booths we had there were ready to help any veteran who had a question. I have had nothing but fantastic reviews about this event. JJ Beauty Instituted volunteered their students to give free haircuts! They were quite busy! I have attached a picture which gave me a chuckle. Of course, he was there for a free beard trim. LOL
There were many who were unaware that we have the 50th Anniversary Challenge Coins for sale. They are $10 each and they are beautiful!
If you would like one, please let me know as I have plenty left over and we need to sell them! So, if any of your friends or family members would like one. They can be picked up or we also can ship at your cost.
The monies from the coin sales will be going to four different organizations.
1. Operation Shockwave
2. DAV #8,
3. Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 2560 and
4. AJHS Navy JROTC.
If anyone has any pictures or videos of this event, please send them to me.
Thank you again for your support in this honorable event!
